Why this is Georgia’s biggest game with Florida in 20 years

Everybody knows what’s on the line Saturday when Georgia and Florida meet in Jacksonville. Lord knows we’ll try, but what’s at stake can’t be overstated. It is no less than an elimination game for the BCS national championship and a spot in the SEC title game in Atlanta on Dec. 6. From a sheer rankings standpoint (Georgia 6, Florida 8), it’s the biggest meeting since 1999 when the Bulldogs were No. 5 and the Gators were No. 10.

But strictly from the Georgia perspective, this is the Bulldogs’ biggest game with Florida in almost 20 years. Here’s why: On Saturday Georgia will get a chance to win its second straight game over Florida for the first time since 1988-89. And for the Bulldog Nation it will be an opportunity to start reversing one of the most painful trends in their history.

Consider this: Steve Spurrier did a lot of remarkable things in his 12 years as the head coach at Florida. Before The Head Ball Coach got to Gainesville in 1990, the Gators had never won 10 games in a season and had never won an SEC championship. When he left after the 2001 season, Florida had posted NINE seasons of 10 wins or more and six SEC titles.

But I still believe that among Spurrier’s greatest accomplishments as the head Gator was his ability to completely reverse the psychology of the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville. Understand that when Spurrier arrived Georgia was dominating the series. Vince Dooley had won 17 out of 25 and the momentum had carried over into Ray Goff’s first season in 1989, when the Bulldogs won 17-10. And at no time in that 26-year period (1964-89) did Florida ever win two straight games.

There were Florida fans who wanted to move the game out of Jacksonville, convinced that Georgia had some built in advantage. A whole generation of Gators grew up believing that there was some unseen, unknown reason why Florida couldn’t beat Georgia.

Spurrier arrives and quickly announces that the whole notion is silly. The game, he said, is an hour from campus in a stadium called (at the time) The Gator Bowl. Then he proceeded to beat Georgia 11 out of the next 12 years. It so changed the psychology of the game that even after Spurrier left in 2001 it carried over into the next two coaches: Ron Zook was 2-1 against Georgia while Urban Meyer is 2-1. Florida’s lingering mojo was such that in 2002 Georgia took its best team in 20 years (13-1) down to Jacksonville to play an 8-5 team with a rookie head coach (Zook). Georgia lost its only game that season (20-13) with a vastly superior team. It probably cost Georgia a shot at the national championship.

The point is that reversing this kind of psychological trend is like turning around a battle ship. It takes time. Last year’s win in Jacksonville was huge for Georgia. But if Florida comes back and wins on Saturday, the Gators will be 16-3 against the Bulldogs since 1990 and will have gone 20 years without losing consecutive games. Florida can rightfully say that it still controls the series.

A Georgia win, however, puts that in doubt. And when a team like Georgia is trying to reassert itself after being dominated for so long, a little doubt can go a long way.

Then the number would be 3 (1 cousin, and 2 hookers)

I have also touched 2 weiners that were not my own.

So i have touched the same number of t** as other guys weiners.

Does that make me gay?

Finally we have what everyone’s been waiting for for years: 2 of the best teams in the nation battling it out with everything on the line. The winner will almost certainly get a shot at AL in the SEC, and with a little luck possibly a shot at the BCS. I’m really sick of fans of both teams running their mouths. It’s not like anyone on these boards is going to do anything to affect the outcome of the game. We should all sit back and appreciate what promises to be a very historic battle.

The sec is probably the weakest it has ever been this year. These two teams are mainly hype. Since the sec does not play defense, this game is going to be like an Arena league game….maybe with a 100 or more points scored. If you want to see a real football game between two teams that can play some defense, you need to watch Tech and FSU. You sec homer/gomers will find this out at the end of the season when you have to play these fine ACC teams. And as always, Thank God and Greyhound that the sec of coaches, Chan Gailey, is gone forever.

I THOUGHT BEFORE THE LSU GAME UGA WAS A SLIGHT UNDERDAWG. EVEN VEGAS AGREES. UGA HAS THE BEST BALANCED OFFENSE I HAVE SEEN. IF FLA STACKS THE BOX TO STOP MORENO, STAFFORD LIGHTS THEM UP. IF THEY DONT TRY AND STOP THE RUN…WELL WE KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. THE ONE THING TIM TEBOW HAS NEVER DONE WELL V/S UGA IS RUN THE BALL. I KNOW HE WAS HURT A LITTLE LAST YEAR BUT I STILL DONT THINK HE CAN RUN THE BALL ON UGA. WITH THAT SAID AND TRY AND USE YOUR NOODLE GATOR FANS= VERY CLOSE GAME.

As a Vol, I wish both Florida AND Georgia could lose Saturday…but as a college and SEC football fan, this is going to potentially be one of the most exciting games in years. I can’t wait because as an outsider, I see both teams peaking at the same time and frankly having many of the same strengths and weaknesses. I hope both teams play their best for four quarters, that the referees are not as clueless as has frequently been the case this year, and the ladies in the crowd are all beautiful.

Now if Fulmer would resign, and the Big Orange could find a coaching staff that puts them back in the race in the SEC again, all would be well in the world again (well, except for the stock market maybe).

Chill out buddy,

Nobody is saying Florida is going to kill Georgia in this game. I’m a gator and I think the game is evenly matched. I would give the edge to Georgia. Moreno is a stud and provides a more consistent ground game then the Florida running backs. It should be a great game with a bunch of scoring. But its football. So ya never know, it might be a low scoring big ten snoozer, but I doubt it.

“the most important game in 20 years”

please.

it’s just florida. even tony has bought into the “head games.” georgia has to win in order to reassert it’s dominance.

whatever.

let’s look at the stats. Georgia has the 3rd most SEC championships in conference history.

yes, the gators have 2 NC….good for them.

but, they still have a losing record vs. georgia. there is no denying that. even after all those years of dominance by the evil genius…they still are in a hole….and they will continue to be in a hole because over the history of the series georgia has the better program….period.

it’s gonna be war…but as always…if the dawgs run the ball, the dawgs win. if not, the gators win.

and if the gators win…they can move one step closer towards making this series even….

This game really does match up pretty evenly. Our defense is much more attuned to stopping a speedy spread offense like Florida’s than a team with a pound it down your throat scheme like Alabama or LSU. Of course, Tebow is the wildcard there so it’ll be exciting.

Also, I’m really starting to think that Florida is getting a little over-hyped in the media this week leaving Georgia in the position where they can just go out and play loose and have fun. Right now, the spotlight and all that pressure is directed right on Florida.

Gator Nation

in years past, 30 has been the magic number for Georgia. when we score at least 30 points we usually win.

what do you think is the Gator’s magic number on Saturday? scoreboard or a statistic will suffice (ie, keeping Moreno under 150 yds., etc.)

i think Georgia needs at least 40 to beat Florida this year. or they need 5/6 sacks.

appreciate any opinions you have on the matter. you and Atlanta Gator are reasonable posters on this board and i am interested in your thoughts.

*Dawg Fud *

I think the winning team will have to score at lest 40 to win.

If the gators held Moreno to under 125 I would be jumping for joy. The problem is that Stafford is a great QB and selling out to stop the run may get us killed. To me, Stafford’s one problem this season was red zone turnovers. Against LSU he played great without making any mistakes. That sux from my point of view.

So, to answer your question. Besides turnovers, what I’m looking for from the Gators is pressure/sacks on Stafford. We have not been good at getting pressure on the QB this year. If we can do that, maybe we can slow Georgia down.

I think our offense will be solid and score in the mid 30’s. The only real advantage I see for Florida coming into the game is on special teams. But Richt does a great job on special teams coverage (where was trindon holliday?).

I am salivating at the thought of the game. What is your take on what Georgia needs to do to win?

I can’t wait to watch this one. It’s gonna be a phenominal game.

I came away impressed with UGA’s offense at LSU Saturday, especially Stafford, but I still stick to my prediction that Florida will prevail this Saturday. Payback is heavy on their mind and Geogia’s defense won’t have enough to get the job done.

We’ll see you in Atlanta for the Championship; Gators. By the way, that is officially our home away from home, from now on. ROLL TIDE!

Dawg Fud & Gator Nation,

I respectfully disagree with both of you. I think we are all in for a big Defensive Surprise Saturday.

The Dawgs & Gators have powerful Offensive Weapons. Sometimes both Defenses really step up and change the entire course of the game - there may be alot of yardage chewed up but my guess is the score will be something like 17 - 10.

By GeoffDawg

October 28, 2008 10:04 AM | Link to this

Gator Nation - you need to actually get to Stafford to stop him. As seen over and over this season, pressure alone rarely throws him off. Given our young o-line, even though they’ve been playing fantastically through all the injuries, this would still probably be our offenses weak link and your best bet at interrupting his rhythm.

By north ga alum

October 28, 2008 10:15 AM | Link to this

The big problem I see for Ga is their lack of pressure on the 1/4back this year. I can’t even remember the last sack we have had this year. Last year we got to Tebow a couple of times and that made a huge difference in the game. If we don’t this year, it will be a long day for the Dawgs on Saturday.

In all the debating back and forth about who will win this game there are a couple of angles being looked over. First, Georgia is the best team Florida has played yet this season. What does that mean? It means that Georgia is the best team Florida has played yet this season. It means that this is the toughest test Florida has faced to date. Georgia, on the other hand, has already played a team as good, if not better, than Florida. Granted we lost, but lessons were undoubtedly learned from that game and you will likely not see the same mistakes again. Georgia has also played at South Carolina, traveled accross the country to play at ASU, and played at LSU. Georgia has been put through the ringer. Florida not so much. What does all of this mean? It means that I think Georgia may be a more seasoned team than Florida. It means that Georgia may be better equipped to handle a hard fought close and physical contest than Florida. After all, how many close games has Florida had this year? I count one and it was also a loss. The Gators may be a tad soft going in to this game. That’s just one man’s opinion.

By Dawg Fud

October 28, 2008 10:28 AM | Link to this

Gator Nation

I think the Dawgs will have to score 40 pts unless they sack Tebow 5/6 times. With so many playmakers on Florida’s offense it will be tough to stop Tebow from delayed draws or tuck-n-runs when the receivers are covered. Everybody says Tebow is not playing as well this year but I disagree. I have been impressed with his ability to throw the football. He has a good arm and nice touch.

I don’t see Georgia being able to throw the ball deep. Florida’s much improved secondary will take great pride in that this weekend. I think Stafford will be forced to throw high percentage passes underneath until Charlie Strong decides otherwise. Maybe we will see more of the three fullback package with an added wrinkle of Knowshon in the slot. Walsh will have to make everything from 45 yards and in.

Bobo will have to call an even better game than he did against LSU and will really have to open the playbook to beat the Gators.

It would not surprise me if Florida goes for few deeps balls early to stretch the field to loosen up LB’s Ellerbe, Curran and Gamble in order to open up running lanes and quick screens to Harvin.

Tony, Tony, Tony, Maybe your psychological trend needs to be reversed. The players who will be on the field this week have already reversed their psychological trend by winning 2 of the last 4.

2004—Uga 34 Fla 24

2005—Fla 14 UGA 10 Shockley out and UGA wins the SEC.

2006—Fla 21 UGA 14 5 Turnovers and Fla scores on the third play of the third quarter on a fumble return for a touchdown.

2007—UGA 42 Fla 30 Enough said!

My point is, this group of Dawgs has changed the thinking about the big bad gators. holding Florida’s offense to two touchdowns for two straight years and then three last year, makes me believe the Dawgs are back.

I agree with you that Stafford is the best qb in the country and especially in the SEC. Moreno is a special player and likes the big stage. Mark Richt is a great coach and yes he is better than Urban Crier.

Georgia will approach this game like a business trip(see ASU and LSU) and take care of business. And if UGA could win three or four in a row, in ten years you will be writing about how important it will be for the gators to reverse the trend. The only trend that will not change is that “THE WORLD’S LARGEST OUTDOOR COCKTAIL PARTY” is still the best event in college football. Go Dawgs!!!

Staff, Green, Moreno & our MIGHTY D will crush the pathetic gayturds. Florida won some games in this series, but everybody knows UGA is the best program in the whole country and the cream will rise to the top.

The only reason we lost some games to the gayturds is because our acadimics are so tough. If we let all the players with bad class work come to UGA we would win the Natinal Title EVERY YEAR. Tony, FL does not have an edge in this series. Look at the post here! 15 wins in 18 years doesn’t mean FL has an edge. GA is the top program in the country and as you can see or ask Murfdawg, FL gets lucky, GA actually dominates FL. FL returns fumbles for touchdowns which don’t really count (interception do count by the way). The official are ALWAYS against GA and the GA side of the field is the only one rained on. So don’t use stupid stats like 15 - 3 (16 -3 and psst no close) to prove any point.

TB, good perspective. I agree that this is the biggest game versus Florida in 20 years. We have got to step up and run with the momentum swing in this series. If not it will be the old “next year” thing. The Dawgs need to do it now!! I believe if the coaches prepare them enough versus the FL offense we should come out ahead. I’m not concerned about us not scoring. If we keep pressure on Tebow and the secondary doesnt get torched or miss tackles we should be in good shape. I think Knowshon will have a huge day Saturday and CK may too. Stafford showed his growth last week and I think that will continue. Nevermind the musty past with the endzone deal. As a student at UF who transferred from Georgia Tech, I watched Spurrier play. I watched Georgia win and win. I felt the same pain as Steve and all Gators. Vince certainly had Florida’s number. It did seem like voodoo. It wasn’t. Just better players at UGA (usually) who were better coached. As coach, S changed all that. Now, just like always, it will boil down to athletic matchups and desire. The edge in desire goes to Florida, thanks to “Dancing with the Stars in the End Zone.” Matchups are even. Florida by 3.

There is one problem: daughter #2 married a former Georgia football player. I really like him and his family. Athens is a beautiful town, and I have even rooted for Georgia between the hedges (pretty sure I helped them defeat Vandy this year). If the Gators are victorious, I know how much it will hurt Georgia fans. That (the pain, not the victory) will no longer be a source of satisfaction for this old Gator. Different perspective. It ought to be a great game this year. It’s a unique setting featuring two fine teams. Who could ask for more?

Greetings y’all:

Lifelong avid UGA football fan here. Read wayyy too much internet news about it.

But, seriously, what is on the line is a football game. Not life, not death. Not anything truly substantively important.

Perspective, I would hazard a guess, may even ultimately serve to provide the team possessing it the presence of mind to be able to win.

Thinking clearly in the face of seemingly out of control circumstances can be a big plus in games like this.

FIVE POINTS: 1) Did anyone hear Jim Donnan on his radio show yesterday whining (very Urban Meyer-esque) about how playing in Jax was so unfair to Georgia. Get this buffoon off the air-waves 680am!!

2) Georgia should own this series and I don’t give as much credit to the ol’ Ball Coach as I give it to Vince Dooley for keenly hiring a dumba$$ like Goff to replace him. Yes, we have Dooley’s own ego to thank for the downward trend that was started with Goff’s WAY overrated recruiting.

3) Tebow isn’t 1/3 the passer of Stafford. Enough said.

4) Urban Meyer inherited (that’s right) a defense from Zook. Meyer no longer recruits defensively as Zook. Florida’s defense is as suspect as Georgia’s. This will play out like a Big 12 game and Stafford makes the difference for Georgia.

5) To further illicit point #1, that Donnan is a dumba$$, he also said yesterday that “IF” Georgia could somehow win, they’d have a better shot at beating Alabama in Atlanta because they’d probably get “more fans in the Dome than Alabama would”. Uhhhh, Jim, in case you didn’t know this, we got smeared by Alabama IN ATHENS and we definitely had more fans than they did. Sorry, but I hate that guy. He’s a loser and always will be.

To Gator Nation, I think neither team’s defense has been able to put as much pressure on QBs as the fans would like to see. The team that takes a step forward in this area will probably win.

UGA OL has been banged up and inexperienced all year, and yet they still are right around the top in passing, rushing, scoring and sacks allowed, as is UF. Not sure there is a compelling argument that UF has a better O-line. That was supposed to be thier advantage last year as well.

The issue is more one of matchup. I can’t think of a worse matchup, than LSU D-line vs our O-line. So the question is: Will Florida’s D-line be a bigger test than that? I dont think our D-line is our best right now, but I’d say we are at least as capable as UF in that aspect.

I think the trenches are a stalmate.

And by the way, UF D-line hasnt “swamped” anyone yet. Only had 16 sacks all year, one more than UGA, and that’s one of our worst categories.

The perception of Georgia outside of Georgia.

Please allow me to step in from outside and give you the skinny as I hear it around the country. No, I ain’t from around here, as I have heard it said.

Georgia is always a solid team every year and a threat to beat anybody. But when they get to the big showcase game watched all over the country where people around the country are trying to make a decision on this team they find a way to lose. That is why Georgia is always looked at as a good team but not a champion. Champions find a way to win and refuse to lose.

I went back in the sec archives last year to 1976. Georgia is the winningest team in the sec since then. Year in and out they are right there. But every year lose that defining game that could make them a champion. It is time for Georgia to buckle down the hatches and convincingly win that defining game. Champions find a way to do that!

If Georgia beats Florida and then redeems that loss to Bama both in showcase games watched around the country they will be veiwed as champions and get the respect they deserve. Until they do they will not get that big time national media attention.

Other teams have up years and down years. Georgia is right there every year but can’t seem to get over that defining hump. Dawgs, it is time, buckle down and beat the he!! out of Florida and then Alabama for the respect you deserve. Otherwise enjoy the Citrus Bowl.

I neither pull for GA nor FL but looking at these two teams I think this is going to be an interesting game- As far as comparing the two- Are Tebow’s and Stafford’s numbers pretty much the same? CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT SACKS RAT

  1. Tim Tebow, Florida 104 164 1415 63.4 8.6 12 2 10 157.60

  2. Matthew Stafford, Georgia 141 229 1946 61.6 8.5 12 5 9 145.88

It would seem that GA relys more on passing than FL- However I think Tebow gives you more with his legs. GA trys for the Big play more with the pass where FL I think uses the Yards after the catch-I think with GA you shut down Moreno and Green-you limit GA-Where FL seems to spread the talent around-

Backs- Ga QB-Even-Passing to GA WR-FL- Only because more than just GREEN. Specail Teams-FL

My Prediction- FL 41 GA 31

Sorry Dawg Nation-Like the weapons on FL a little more and Special teams may be the difference.

to compare tebow and stafford is like apples to oranges. uga’s offense is pro style. fla is not. more deception than straitline. uga’s defense is built around fast lb play. a defense that is built around stopping the gators. thats why tebow cant run that well on uga. harvin, i admit is fla’s best player and may well be the most dangerous on the field sat. they will have to make sure to limit him very few shots down the field. but like a previous post said,”if uga’s line gives stafford the time to throw” i dont see fla defense coming off the field. will be close until the 4th quarter and moreno takes over. lower score than most think 31-21 dawgs

Note to Dutch: Tell me how you really feel about Donnan! That comment demonstrates exactly why he was fired with a 40-21 record. The game in Jax was a “fan” game for all those good UGA fans in south Georgia and north Florida. It was a recruiting tool for that area. It was an “unofficial” holiday for all the fans in Atlanta. The tickets were allocated 50/50. No advantage to Fla or UGA. The only advantage Fla had when Donnan was at Georgia was…..coaching!!!!!And yes that was totally unfair to the Dawgs.

I hope they always keep this game in Jax. The only thing worse than”Yankees in Tara” would be “Gators in Athens.”

To the sane dawg fans

I totally agree with you about putting pressure on the QB’s. Florida’s pass rush is very average and unless you get to stafford a couple of times he is mobile enough and tough enough to make the throw and take the hit. I worry as much about Stafford throwing as I do about Moreno running the ball.

Georgia’s defense has been suspect at times, but I think they match up better with Florida and our speed than power running teams. If they can apply the same pressure on Tebow as they did last year then Florida will be in some trouble.

Florida’s defense has improved from last years team. Better tackling for sure. But again, the pass rush has to get to Stafford or I will be face down drunk by half time.

The Gators being favored by 5 1/2 points is crazy!!!! I’m going to take Georgia and the 5 1/2 just to ease my pain if we lose. The dawgs should be favored by 3 or less.

Go Gators! I can’t wait!

cartersvllledawg….I am asking for an explanation in your logic. “Everyone knows that UGA is the best team in the country”. What country are you talking about. Last I checked, UGA is not even the #1 team in their conference. The Dogs were manhandled at home by Alabama and unless I am mistaken, they are still undefeated and the #2 team in the country.

UF wins this game by 2 TD’s. If BAMA’s O can light you guys up for 31 in the 1st game in Athens, UF’s offense with a heisman trophy winning QB can do the same!

By Oledawg

October 28, 2008 1:45 PM | Link to this

PAT WHITE- Ever heard of Allen, Moreno, Brown, Jones and a few others that can run in traffic on kickoffs? There are others who are fast enough to move laterally and head upfield when they want. Blocking decides the returns as much as the runner.

UGA fans need to read who is available for games. We have weapons you have forgotten about. In discussing the points scored with Gator fans, some of you haven’t mentioned an important aspect of the running game. Blockers. Your blinders keep looking at the O line only and you have completely forgotten Southerland, Chapas and Munzenmeier. If you think those tanks can’t open a hole , go out for screen passes and thud their way into the end zone, then your memory is worse than mine..and I’m an ‘ole fart. So quit thinking negative about the run. When it comes to slugging out the run, Vegas has no clue! Staff has 6 primary targets and 3 secondary targets..all healthy and catching like they have velcro on their hands. Our D doesn’t have to prove anything with FU. They have handled tougher offensive squads and weathered them sufficiently.

Every time a category comes up that the Dawgs seem deficient in, the next game takes care of it; i.e., Gamble’s interceptions and runbacks, return yardage, blocking a 4 DE rush, etc. Our kicking game is better than FU’s and is an advantage. Which brings me to my perception of an Achilles’s Heel. Did anyone see the time and steps by Mimbs when he got those long bombs off? Any team concentrating on that aspect of the game could produce a shift-changing play or two. It bothers me because it was so obvious in the LSU game that even a nitwit like Crier or Strong can plan something that is game-changing.

These teams both have the players, but I’ll put my bet on Richt anytime. A friend of mine who played for FSU long ago often discusses Richt as a coach. He feels that most of Bowdens success vs FU and other teams belongs to Richt. This “Mr. Nice Guy” has a devilish instinct he deploys in games that frustrates and perplexes other coaches because they don’t see it coming. Come on Dawgs, how many times does he have to win away from home before you get the whole picture? This coach can get the most out of players and make a team come together (twice this year) better than any other coach in America. Don’t you get it? FU fears his coaching ability and they whistle thru the graveyard every year. Can’t you read it into many postings on this blog from most of the FU bloggers(not the analytical ones who have good thoughtful points because they know the game)?

Folks, its going to be a good game on both sides of the ball for both teams. I’m thankful for the “dance” last year and how good I feel every time it is mentioned that Crier is upset, when he blusters that he is “going to do something about it”, that he will “never forget”. Those are true pictures of a nightmare in someone’s mind. With a big “G” imprinted on it. Priceless, ain’t it? Relax with your beverage of choice this weekend and don’t worry about plays you can’t do anything about. I feel this year as I felt last year. The Dawgs have the goods to beat FU’s butt. Relax and be patient because you know that fact and they don’t. An unexpected lucky break may win the game either way, but it won’t be because of coaching, player ability or passion to win.

SIC’EM DAWGS.

I am rooting for the Dawgs, but I am worried about the defense. Even though Georgia won last week in LSU, they still gave up a lot of points and yards. Alabama (at least for half) looked like they were moving the ball against a high school defense against UGA.

If Alabama and LSU can look that good offensively against Georgia, I am scared of what Florida will do.

M & Knee Jerk —

SEC has 8 teams in top 25 nationally when it comes to total D. ACC has 4. The difference between the ACC and SEC is that the SEC actually has legit offenses that can score points against good defenses. Go ahead and talk about MSU and Vandy. And we’ll talk about Clemson, Tech and FSU getting waxed by Bama, GA and FLA on a regular basis.

College Football Fan —

Good analysis. But there is no way for Florida to shut down Moreno and the passing game. If they had a 400# tackle in the middle of their D-line maybe, but they don’t. And special teams is going to be key. KO coverage for Georgia has to be outstanding all day. I like Mimbs punting the ball and don’t care who UF has back to receive it. Mimbs makes huge kicks with ridiculous hang time.

Every possible means of communication known to man … land phones, faxes, email, instant messaging, cell phones, telegraphs, satellite phones, overnight delivery, US postal service, bicycles, scooters, segways, rickshaws, pony express, airways, underground tunnels, smoke signals, radio, TV, “Beam Me Up” paths through the ether, and even face-to-face contact, will be used this week between the SEC office, the SEC football officials office, the NCAA, AND the head coach’s and AD’s offices in Athens and Gainesville, in order that one message is relayed to and received by Mssrs. Richt and Meyer ….

ANY celebrations or unorthodox methods of motivating your team before, during and after this week’s game will not be allowed or tolerated, and any infraction will mean that you, your AD, your school president, your team captains, and all of your seniors, will be thrown out of the game and the stadium this week AND in your game next week.

Don’t you agree, Mr. Barnhart? I have it on good authority, almost as good as your sources, that such a stern message (though perhaps modified somewhat) has been and is being sent from and to all of the aforementioned parties.

Wouldn’t it be nice to read about what the SEC and NCAA and the officials (referees) groups are doing and/or saying in this regard? Maybe a story idea in there somewhere?

I really like the idea of the Dawgs being the underdog in this game. Thats just ratchets a little more pressure on Florida. These two teams are so equal in playmakers, talent and ability. We match up very well. It could very likely be decided on the sidelines i.e. the best X’s and O’s coaches. I’m sure the coach that has the team fired up to start the game will be ahead of the curve.

Both teams are improved from last year but, I like Georgia’s chances. We’re battle tested and much improved since the Bama loss. Bobo and Martinez both found the urgency against LSU and I believe they will against Florida too.

Ok all you football geniuses listen up; what makes college football so great is the inherent unpredictibility of the games created by; the emotional component(who wants it the most);the breaks (turnovers and ref calls);the game planning by the coaches (sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don’t)and lastly the relative talent of each team.

If the Old Miss Fla shows up they will lose. If the Alabama 1st half Georgia shows up they will lose. If the LSU Florida and the LSU Georgia shows up it will be a slobbernocker.

He who executes individual assignments best, makes the fewest mental mistakes and holds on to the ball wins.

Both offensives are better than both defenses so there should be lots of scoring. Both teams score over 30.

Vegas had LSU picked by 2.5 points so they don’t know everything either. This week I believe they have FLA. picked by 5.5 pts.

Bob- Good stats. Take a look at the points scored on Texas this year as well. Not sure what the big D scheme is that he employs, but you are right. I wish Will the best of luck, but don’t understand why anyone would think he is better than Martinez. Most of us are happy with what we have. I think other posters in the past tryed to spin against the coaches, but I thought by now everyone knows most were not Dawg fans, but they influenced a few to complain. That’s old now. We have moved on.

We may have Ellerbe for a few plays vs FU. I hope he gets a shot or two at some lizards. Didn’t James play last year as well as Spikes? Wasn’t there a problem between Crier and his running backs? I guess they have stopped fumbling, but wasn’t there a great deal of mistrust between them? I guess they are all better now and we will have to help them fumble again. It should be fun to see Curran tear ‘um loose from the ole pigskin. Hell, I think I’m going to enjoy this year more than last. We get to avenge each previous loss one-at-the-time starting last year.

The perception of the two programs totally shifts. This game is HUGE! Controlling this series is the key to winning championships and all we have to do is get it done on Saturday.

31-0 at the half?!!!!!!

Good Luck Dog fans - you beat LSU when I gave you no chance what so ever. Man is your defense in trouble and UF is going to light up the board.

Your best bet is too get in a scoring shootout - and this plays into the Gators favor.

However - you will get killed by the Gators.

UGA fans are no different than fans of other schools - you either think you are better than you actually are - or - you think that you are not as good as you actually are.

But the rest of the college football world sees a very down SEC - and UGA is seen as a good team - but not a great team.

    • Florida is more physical - has more speed - and the defense is a lot better than last year.

However - I still thing that UGA will not only lose this game - and be embarrassed. But will lose one or two to KY, AUBURN or GT. My guess is will lose to KY after the shock of FL - will beat Auburn - and GT is a toss up.

Overall - very good season by UGA standards - 9-3 or 8-4.

Has anyone heard the rumor that Clemson is interested in Richt. TalkShow I was listening to speculated they are going to make a run at Richt. Apparently - upgraded facilities - including indoor practice field that Richt has been denied at UGA Easier path to Conference Title and National Title - like FSU di recognized when they turned down SEC offer. He is familiar with the ACC. Clemson ready to pay Saban dollars.

ROOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!!!!!

Altamaha Dawg…. Richt better be careful in not pulling any stunts like last year with a healthy Tebow that’s gonna pout on a clinic for the overrated Stafford. Myer will pull out all the stops against Uga too. Just like the fake punt that LSU ran on your boys that left ole Willie scratching his ugly bald head. Yeah CMR better be careful! 56 - 28 GOOOO Gators! Get up and Go!!!

Florida native,

Did your mother have any children who lived?

You might want to do a little reading if you are able to do so before announcing to the entire world that you are some dumb and so misinformed that no one ever told you that a successor to Bowden was already in place.

I guess you really are a Florida native. You can tell by the stupidity.

BAMA STAN,

I hear that Saban is going to accept a seven million dollar a year offer from Clemson and that Mal is going to hire Dave Shula.

I guess I get my news from the same idiot you listen to. BTW: how many wins in row do you guys need to get to .500 for the century…jackazz.

Hey dorsey hill and ramdawg. U dawg fans sure are sensitive about Bama Stan’s comments. Wonder why that is? Could it be the AZZPOUNDING we inflicted on you IN YOUR OWN HOUSE! I notice you bring up how well we’ve done or not done over the last couple years. Well hell, if we’re gonna “live in the past” than lets just compare alltime #s of wins, conference and national titles and throw in head to head which stands at 36-25 Bama. Your tradition and past is an absolute joke compared to Bama’s storied tradition and it just eats you alive now that the King is back on his throne. I would love to bitc!smack you a second time in one year but its obvious we will be playing UF. You can’t possibly think that if LSU put up 497 yds and 38 pts on you with a terrible qb that UF won’t light you up for 50. The only thing that save you was 2 int. returns and that was the margin of victory. How often does one team get lucky breaks like that. Not often. Stick a fork in the dawgs, gators make it 18 of 21. Don’t you ever get tired of being owned by those guys over 20 years?

Dorsey Hill….Just like all other SEC fans, you are hoping Saban will be leaving BAMA soon. I can understand based on the beating and his BAMA team put on UGA. If you guys are lucky enough to beat UF, we will be happy to whip you guys again!!! However, my money is on UF to represent the east in the SECCG. UF wins by 2 TD’s!

note to Bamastan:

I guess 9-3,8-4 does look pretty good to you after NINE YEARS OF 6-6, Music City , Liberty Bowls. Oh I’m sorry, you did have one good year, 10-2, but oops! you were in jail. One game doesn’t erase NINE YEARS OF PATHETIC FOOTBALL.

If I were you, which thank the Lord I’m not, I would wait until after the LSU game and especially after the game with the team that has beaten you SIX YEARS IN A ROW before I would bellow too loudly. Just a thought.

BAMASTAN

The only remark that I have seen you post that had one shred of truth to it was the 31-0 at the half. And of course that was after the fact. You’ve made many other predictions but none of those seem to come true.

You really should just shut that pie hole of yours and do a few dry run predictions until you can get at least one right. Your juvenile statements show you to be a scared pimple-face preteen Tide fan. Now let momma have the computer. She has work to do on the cam sites and paying customers to please.

Hey Tony, just saw on the news here in Jax that there is a 60% chance of rain Saturday. Who does that favor in the ball game?

By Oledawg

October 29, 2008 7:12 AM | Link to this

Florida Dawg-The last time there was a big rain, UGA won 51-0. Seems like we switched to tennis shoes for that game. We filled the UGA B-Ball arena for that year’s highlights. I’ve written of the game here before with a few details. UGA Athletics Dept probably has a copy. Anyway it was a riot of cheering and that was before they were competitive. This was during the era of qb Spurrier.

To athensdawg

Yes Georgia has more wins in the GA/FL series but let’s address the comment that Ga. has a better football program.

National Championships FL-2 GA-2 Conference Championships FL-7 GA-12 Heisman Winners FL-3 GA-2 All Americans FL-135 GA-66

That makes GA a better football program? Better program in the last 18 years? Good luck on Saturday there buddy.

Let’s not forget Massaquoi, Southerland, or Michael Moore on offense or the fantastic defensive pick last week by Darryl Gamble on the first play of the game. UGA is not the Knowshon show. Granted, the better he plays, the better the team does overall, but this will be a game which will most likely be decided defensively. The first defense to make a mistake will lose the game. If the Georgia offensive line plays hard and gives Stafford a little time, he has an unequaled arm (if you believe what the commentators say). The Defense will have to play heads up and hard and hit Tebow early and often to get him off his game. This should be the deciding game for the winner of the SEC title. I seriously doubt Richt will let Alabama treat us like they did earlier in the season. Regardless, it will be a sad day for the Bulldog Nation without Munson calling the plays! Let’s win this for Larry. GO DAWGS! Sic ‘em!!!
