Georgia could move back to No. 1

Well, well, well.

Remember earlier this month when some wise guy sports writer told you that Southern Cal was No. 1 and that there was simply NO WAY that the Trojans were going to lose against THAT schedule? Remember how that same guy assured you that, in his infinite wisdom, everybody else in college football was playing for second place?

Silly man. He forgot the lessons we learned last season that ANYTHING is possible in college football. Last season No. 1 and No. 2 lost on the same day—three times! So what does last night’s stunning loss by Southern Cal to Oregon State mean? Two things:

1) Oklahoma, you’re No. 2 which means you should be very, very nervous against No. 24 TCU (4-0) on Saturday in Norman.

2) Georgia, you’re No. 3 and you opened up a few eyes last week when you went to Arizona State and took care of business. If you win Saturday night against No. 8 Alabama with the whole world (and ESPN’s College Game Day) watching, you could be back at No. 1 come Sunday morning.

Southern Cal’s loss, and the fact that the Trojans trailed 21-0 at halftime, means they will drop significantly in Sunday’s new polls. And even if Oklahoma beats TCU, which is 11-2 in its last 13 games against BCS opponents, Georgia could jump over them with an impressive win over the Crimson Tide. Georgia coach Mark Richt, of course, would take a 3-2 win right now if he could get it.

The point is that USC’s loss changed the whole dynamic of the race to the BCS championship. If everybody wins who is supposed to win on Saturday, the top six teams come Sunday will all be from the SEC and the Big 12: Oklahoma, Georgia/Alabama winner, Florida, LSU, Missouri, and Texas. The SEC and the Big 12 are clearly the best two conferences in college football this season.

Starting next week we could be looking at a nine-week elimination race to sort out the two champions. Or, could the Big Ten champ, Wisconsin or Penn State or one-loss Ohio State, inject itself into the mix? I doubt it. Or if everybody loses one, does USC get back into the mix at the end of the season? It will be tougher because of a weak Pac-10.

Bottom line: The crazy, fun part of college football season started last night. So buckle up. From here on out it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

And with that, fellow travelers, we bring you another edition of the Fearless Friday Forecast.

1. Alabama (4-0) at Georgia (4-0): This game really didn’t need any more energy but Southern Cal’s loss just opened up another can of Red Bull for the No. 1 game of the weekend. We’ve got all the elements. We’ve got strength coaches at Alabama talking about going to funerals. We have Georgia coach Mark Richt wearing black to practice so that he’s properly dressed for the service. We’ve got a mountain of a man (Terrence Cody) playing nose tackle for Alabama and a wild-eyed true freshman (Ben Jones) from Georgia, who is an Alabama native and can’t wait to try and move him. Man, this is going to be fun.

Both of these teams were impressive last week as Alabama dominated Arkansas (49-14) and Georgia went out to the desert and cooled off Arizona State (27-10) in a game that wasn’t nearly that close. This game is easy to analyze. Rick Bragg, one of my favorite writers, once said that every big SEC game “is like a knife fight in a ditch.” This will be one of those games.

Saban will tell his players to smack Georgia in the mouth on the first possession to see how the Bulldogs will respond. Georgia’s young offensive line will find the going kind of tough against that Alabama defensive front. But Bulldog quarterback Matt Stafford will step up and give one of his best performances at Georgia. This will be a big time football game. Georgia 21, Alabama 17.

2. Tennessee (1-2) at Auburn (3-1): Both teams lost last week but Auburn is feeling much better about its team and life in general as Tennessee comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. game. Last week against LSU the Tigers figured out some things on offense and were able to move the ball against one of the better defenses in the country. Tennessee made a ton of mistakes and was lucky Florida did not beat the Vols worse than 30-6. Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer has his back to the wall and in the past that is when he’s done some of his best work. But the Vols are missing something and they don’t figure to find it at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn 28, Tennessee 14.

3. Ole Miss (2-2) at Florida (3-0): The Gators made it look a little too easy last week against Tennessee and as a result they can pretty much put it on cruise control for the next two weeks against Ole Miss and Arkansas (Oct. 4 in Fayetteville). It’s an early start in Gainesville so it probably won’t be a very pretty game. But Urban Meyer and the gang will do what they have to do to start getting ready for an Oct. 11 visit from LSU. Florida 31, Ole Miss 10.

4. Miss. State (1-3) at LSU (3-0): Here is why this game is important for LSU. Redshirt freshman QB Jarrett Lee brought the Tigers from behind to win at Auburn last week. The job appears to be his, but can he play as well after a week of going to bed every night knowing that he’s THE guy? It’s one thing to come off the bench and play the game when you haven’t had time to think about it. But all week Lee has listened to people tell him how good he is. LSU doesn’t need to hold anything back against the Bulldogs because the Tigers get a week off after this game. Mississippi State needs some good news after losing to Georgia Tech 38-7. But Sylvester Croom won’t find any good news in Baton Rouge. LSU 35, Miss. State 7.

5. UAB (1-3) at South Carolina (2-2): South Carolina is going to win the game against a UAB team that has given up 129 points in its three losses. We are interested in this game because quarterback Stephen Garcia is going to get his first significant playing time for the Gamecocks. Coach Steve Spurrier is so frustrated with his offense that he threw every position open for competition this week. Garcia will make a lot of mistakes but Spurrier will have to live with them because the young quarterback needs to come through if the Gamecocks are going to have a decent season. South Carolina 24, UAB 3.

6. North Carolina (2-1) at Miami (2-1): The Hurricanes finally got their offense cranked up and had some big plays last week in a 41-23 win at Texas A&M. This was supposed to be a fun homecoming for former Miami coach Butch Davis, who is now the head guy at North Carolina. But Butch has to go down to Dolphin Stadium without his quarterback, T.J. Yates, who is out for at least six weeks with a broken ankle. Neither Mike Paulus nor Cameron Sexton is ready for that Miami defense. Miami 24, North Carolina 13.

7. Virginia (1-2) at Duke (2-1): This could be the game where Duke proclaims that they are not going to live in the ACC basement any more. The Blue Devils are favored to win an ACC game for the first time since 2002. The Blue Devils, whose only loss was to Northwestern (4-0), are playing with a little bit of an attitude under David Cutcliffe. Duke gets it done and gets ready for next week’s trip to Georgia Tech. Duke 23, Virginia 17.

8. Florida State (2-1) vs. Colorado (3-0) in Jacksonville: Florida State took a huge step back last week when it committed seven turnovers in a 12-3 loss to Wake Forest. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said he is sticking with quarterback Christian Ponder for now. The Seminoles finally get all the players back who were suspended for the first three games because of the academic cheating scandal and that will make a difference. Florida State 24, Colorado 14.

9. Virginia Tech (3-1) at Nebraska (3-0): After a tough loss to East Carolina in its opener, Virginia Tech has bounced back to win three straight, including a couple of good ACC wins over Georgia Tech (20-17) and North Carolina (20-17). Now the Hokies travel to Lincoln to play a Nebraska program that is rebuilding under new coach Bo Pelini. Nebraska’s three wins are over Western Michigan, San Jose State, and New Mexico State so it’s fair to say that the Cornhuskers have not been test. They will be tested—and more—on Saturday. Virginia Tech 17, Nebraska 16.

10. Navy (2-2) at Wake Forest (3-0): The Deacons have forced 15 turnovers in three games and could have quite a time today against Navy’s option attack. Wake Forest could have a little letdown after beating Florida State and could be looking ahead to a big ACC showdown with Clemson on Oct. 9. Navy beat Rutgers 23-21 on a late field goal last week and is starting to get a little momentum. Brad Lambert’s defense will keep the Deacons undefeated. Wake Forest 31, Navy 17.

Anthony,

So much for your LSU predictions thus far this season:

“App State will keep it close for awhile.” (LSU was up 31 zip at the half)

**”Auburn will upset LSU.” (Didn’t happen)

Like I said, if you had to make a living off what you say about LSU, you would be homeless.

Tony, I predicted GA would lose at least one game, maybe two. And this matchup with AL does not look good for GA. But I just could not do it, UGA 21 AL 17. Quarterback play will be the difference and home field advantage. GO DAWGS! Sickem! WHOOF! Whoof! Whoof!

When Top 10 teams start to lose it usually comes in waves. It would not suprise me if a couple other teams went down this weekend. I do not want UGA to lose this game but if they do lose one this season, this would be the best one. AL is in the Western Division and they are highly ranked and it is early.

I thought mighty USC could beat the Detroit Lions, as one “expert” said.

I am so glad that this happened…now we have 2 pretenders out of the way( Ohio State ) and the real conferences that play title games will rule !!!

I would have to agree that right now, the Big 12 and SEC are the strongest conferences; however, all those top teams in the SEC will have to play each other and I just don’t see anyone coming out undefeated. In fact, if there’s enough parity among those teams, you may not find one with less than 2 losses at the end of the season. The Big 12 has two strong teams but they tend to choke down the stretch. Tony, I don’t blame you for not giving more respect to Penn State…let’s see how they do against an Illinois team that went toe-to-toe with Missouri. But after seeing Oregon State whip USC last night, Penn State’s domination over the Beavers is looking more and more impressive. IF (and I emphasize IF) the Lions manage to go undefeated (which would include road wins at Wisconsin and Ohio State), they just might be the only team left at the end of the season without a loss. That, in my mind, would give them the automatic invitation to the National Championship game. The season has just gotten that much more exciting. Go Lions! Go Dawgs!

Thank God, USC lost and now some actually deserving teams can get to the title game! I’m sick of teams like USC and Ohio State having a free pass to it each and every year.

How many times does USC have to bite it against one of these Pac 10 creampuffs before it isn’t that shocking to anyone anymore? It has become a fairly regular occurance at this point. I am not at all surprised. The media tries to dismiss it as a fluke. USC wasn’t focused they say. They were overconfident. USC was “looking ahead”. USC got “caught napping”. They say everything they can to explain away a USC loss except the most obvious explanation: USC is not the unstoppable juggernaut they made them out to be. In fact, USC was flat out awful last night.

How in the hell do you play a grand total of one game in three weeks AT HOME and then look that freaking clueless against a 1-2 team? That is absolutely pathetic. I agree with all the pundits on one thing. USC did in fact have a schedule taylor made for a national title run. They did have the easiest path to the national title. Their schedule was indeed a total joke. And what have they done with it? They’ve choked on it for the third year in a row.

Remember this moment folks when the media starts telling you how great USC is again. It will happen. Be prepared. Do not fall for their line of bullcrap again.

Tony,

No Clemson pick? Surely there are more Clemson grads in the Atlanta market than there are Wake or Naval Academy grads. Plus, the Clemson game has more impact on the ACC (a conference of which the hometown Techsters are a member) race. You failed to meet market demand this week.

I love hearing all the hype on the Dawgs leading up to Saturday’s big game. No one seems to think they have any weaknesses at all. Like there’s no way they could possibly lose to Alabama.

Well, don’t underestimate the Tide, my fellow SEC friends. They had to work for their #8 ranking whereas the Dawgs were given their spot and have been somewhat treading water.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely respect the Georgia football team and what they can do, but as an Alabama fan, I know the Tide will give them one helluva fight and it will not be a blowout - either way.

USC is not a fraud. They really are good. In college football everyone blows it now and then, or perhaps your beloved “dawgs” really were that much worse than Tennesee and USC last year (and Vanderbilt the year before). These are 18-22 year old young men and they have a lot of different pressures on them week in and week out. USC is still the most talented team in the nation but any given team, on any given night… you know the rest. Do they deserve to play in the national title? Of course not, but don’t delude yourself into thinking that this proves Georgia’s superiority. Pride cometh before the fall.

From the way Mark Richt has jabbed back at Sabin & his assistants this week it seems like Jerry Moore “knows something”. Do you get this same vibe?** . He might just be using it to further motivate the player, alums & fans but to me he wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t “knows something”. At the very least he’s sending the message that UGA is not intimidated by the Nictator & his Tide troops. It seems to me UGA is poised to send a message to the Sabin, the SEC & the pollsters. The all black ensemble Richt wore might have been to send more than one message because he may be granting the players wish to do a TOTAL BLACKOUT! I prefer to see red helmet & silver britches but if all black will take them to anther level then fine let’s go for it.

I’m sure Zach had no problem deluding himself in to believing USC was the best team in the country before last night. What a flippin hypocrite. Cut the crap dude. Sure everyone blows it in college football, but not quite like the mighty Trojans did last night. This was the first time a #1 had lost to an unranked team since the mid-80’s. This was a choke job for the ages. USC was indeed a fraud. Quit apologizing and making excuses for them. USC isn’t going to get any sympathy around here. Why are we giving Arizona State so much love and Georgia being so impressive beating them? We just got through seeing the Pac is not an elite conference. Georgia’s first real contest is Saturday between the hedges. The dawgs are known to choke big time during these heady periods. They beat a great Auburn team last year wearing all black after they were out of the picture for a championship. Look for an upset here and maybe one in Ok, and someone will finally put this TCU coach on a radar as one of the best unknowns in the game. North Carolina beats Miami if anybody cares, and LSU will be the standard bearer by year’s end for the SEC unless Alabama comes on strong.

Greg….Rudy Carpenter also threw he ball 70% of the game. BAMA has a MUCH better running game than ASU and we always have fresh backs in the game. As for Mt Cody, we have been hearing how he cant hold up all season and people could not have been more wrong. Look for him to be pushing your OL back all night!! You guys can go one on one with him and he will be in the backfield all night. If you double and triple team, that leaves open lanes for Rolondo McClain to rack up tackles. If you zone block him, he will push whoever is infront of him out of the way. Your head coach said blocking Cody one on one cannot be done and double teaming doesnt really work either.

(1) The Alabama-Georgia game and the LSU-Florida, UGA-LSU, UF-UGA, AU-UGA, Bama-LSU and AU-Bama games are a de facto, round-robin regular season SEC championship tournament. If one of those teams emerges with a single loss or undefeated, that team should be a shoe-in for the BCS Championship game. This also assumes that the SEC survivor does not get upset in the SEC championship game; it is improbable that any 2-loss team will back into the BCSCG again this year.

As for the Dawgs and Tide, it should be the game of the day. Prediction: Dawgs by 6, and both coahces better make make sure their kickers are well-rested and getting good practice reps. I expect a close outcome.

(2) If Tennessee loses to Auburn, the drums will begin beating for Fulmer’s head, making it that much harder for the Vols to get to 8 wins this year. Question of the Day: Is the AU offense functional enough to win this game? I expect so——Tigers by 10.

(3) The two Mississippi SEC teams have a history of giving the Gators fits … when the games are played in Mississippi. This season the Ole Miss game is in the Swamp. Gators by 21+ points.

(4) LSU over Mississippi State … by more points than I have fingers and toes. Death Valley will be rockin’ with ornery Cajuns.

(5) South Carolina beats UAB, but will the Gamecocks find their passing attack? It’s a good thing that the Evil Genius appears to be in good health, because the Gamecock’s 2008 season thus far has the potential to give most mortal coaches a coronary. ‘Cocks by 10.

(6) I expect Miami to win, but this game has upset potential. The on-the-field differences between the 2008 UM and UNC teams are not that great; two years from now, the reloaded Hurricane talent will overwhelm the Tarheels. 2008 ‘Canes by 7.

(7) Duke is a favorite to win … an NCAA Division I football game? Another sign of the coming Apocalypse. This game will likely determine who the 2008 cellar-dweller of the ACC is. No bet.

(8) This is the game that may determine retirement for The Legend sooner rather than later. Noles win, Bobby hangs on, at least through the end of the bowl season. Buffs win, Bobby is gone for certain in January. The Legend is running out of opportunities to turn the Seminole program around before forced retirement catches up to him. Emotionally, I want Bobby to win, but that is usually a sign of a bad bet.

(9) The Nebraska-Virginia Tech is an intersectional cage match between two programs that have seen better times. Both need a win to re-establish their relevance. One team gets a program-building boost, the another gets stepped on in the eyes of the media. My money is on the ‘Huskers——straight up, no line.

Old joke: Did you know that the “N” on Nebraska helmets stands for “knowledge?”

(10) When this game was scheduled, Navy probably expected to win. No more. Demon Deacons by 20+ points.

Good luck to all the teams for which you cheer, and may the best teams win (they usually do).

There should be no doubt. This strength of schedule says it all. In all fairness to the sport, Georgia should and will be number 1.

Pete Carrol was outcoached and outplayed. Every year it is the same old song and dance. That loss should fall directly on his shoulders. Watching the game made me want to throw up! I’ve never heard so much glorification about a football team in all my life. And the announcers never said anything good about OSU. It was men against boys, and the boys took the men to the woodshed!

USC lost, but to call them an overrated joke is a huge stretch. They are still a damn good team, they just played a terrible game last night. Remember, UGA did the same thing last year against USC and UT and we fans still considered our team to be damn good despite those losses.

By Georgia

Think about this for a minute. Reguardless of who wins Sat., it will not be an upset. Georgia is supossed to be farther along at this stage, but it gets down to who plays the best and makes the least mistakes. This is big time football and it won’t take much to sway the game, one way or the other.

Get ready to be frustrated dog fans - you guys are in trouble:

  1. Bama defense clearly superior to UGA - dogs will not run and Stafferd will not have much time to go deep.

  2. UGA OL will get kicked! Again - Stafferd will not have time to get set.

  3. Bama Offense is mean and hungry - will be very physical and wear down undersized dogs DL.

BY 4th quarter - this game will be history - BAMA 28 - UGA 10.

Wow…congrats on reading more into the comment than what was said. I will say it for you in, um, simpler terms. Cody is a big guy. We have been told since the season started he would not be able to play consecutive series in a came. That was incorrect. We were told he would not be able to handle playing in the heat. Wrong again. It has nothing to do with the end of the season. If nothing else, it is better that is still close to the beginning of the season because he is still going strong. Well good for BAMA. Bad for ANY OL that has to face him. Funny your coach thinks he is great player but you guys dont. I thought you UGA fans took everything Richt said as fact???

The fact remains that USC is in contention every year, because they play no substansial, consistent competition. Same is true for Ohio State, but to a lesser degree, especially this year.

The debates are endless about “If USC played in the SEC they would lose 3 games a year, etc” and so on, but the fact remains that a playoff system needs to be put in place because there is never a logical end to a debate comparing a 1 loss SEC/Big 12 team to an undefeated Pac 10/Big Ten team. There is no objectionable conclusive answer because it is NOT settled on the field!

However, I am so sick of the media darlings of USC and Ohio State. All they have proven is that they can beat inferior competition and win a big game every year or two. Maybe the media loves USC because there is no NFL team in LA.

I am not saying that USC/OSU are not good or whatever, it is just they are automatically annointed every year, without proving much, other than dominating inferior competition the year before, etc.

A limited playoff system will end all this bias and make the National Champion the TRUE National Champion.

Eric A Dawg Fan….I think you proved how little you know about Alabama football. Yes the dawgs rotate a few backs but KM gets 80% of the carries. BAMA rotates in 4 RB with Coffee and Ingram getting the majority and Upchurch and Grant getting a few while both are solid at catching passes out of the backfield! Do you homework next time my mutt friend!

ChipperDawg….we hear the same nonsense from you Mutt fans last year! UGA will run all over us. Matt will throw all over our DB, blah blah blah. Ok I was in a hurry earlier & didn’t get my post in correctly, so let’s try this again:

Tony earlier this season I heard you say on 790 that going into last years App State’s @ Michigan game you were on Jerry Moore’s teleconference leading into that game & when it was over you thought to yourself that he “knows something”. From the way Mark Richt has jabbed back at Sabin & his assistants this week it seems like he “knows something” as well. Do you get this same vibe?

He might just be doing it to further motivate the player, alums & fans but to me he wouldn’t have taken those shots if he didn’t “know something”. At the very least he’s sending the message that UGA is not intimidated by the Nictator & his Tide troops. It seems to me UGA is poised to send a message to Sabin, the SEC & the pollsters. The all black ensemble Richt wore might have been to send more than one message because he may be granting the players wish to do a TOTAL BLACKOUT! I prefer to see red helmet & silver britches but if all black will take them to anther level then fine let’s go for it.

I would hope that the Georgia vs Arizona State game wasn’t as close as it looked since ASU is ranked 49 in power rankings which is a little less than the strongest team played by Georgia which was South Carolina with a ranking of 44.

reservoirDAWG….because very few uga fans on here could respond in an adult manner if an Alabama fan were to point out that we had ANY advantage. Instead, if it was an opinion that say BAMA had a better OL than UGA, we would be called delusional idiots by the vast majority of walkon alums from UGA. However, I will start it out and see if it can be taken in a civil manner. BAMA’s DL vs UGA OL. This unit for BAMA Has been a BIG surprise because going into the season, we thought depth would be a real concern. The opposite has been the case. In the 3/4, our 2 DE’s are solid but not world beaters. Cody in the middle is a beast. We will often being the jack LB up to the DE spot and rush him off the edge. Brandon Fanney has been solid all year for us. I think UGA’s OL will have their hands full. Cody on Jones is a mismatch of epic proportions. He will have to be double and triple teamed and zone blockign will be ineffective. He just pushes people backward with pure strength. The other OL will be occupied by Deadrick and Greenwood allowing our LB’s, who have also been a nice surprise, to make plays. Rolondo McClain is a beast and one if not the best MLB in the SEC. You will hear his name A LOT on saturday. Cory Reamer is solid when we are not in a nickel or dime as he is off the field. Hightower is a TF starting at the WLB and has been solid as well. We have been fortunate to play a lot of guys and get them solid experience.

How was that? Your turn.

SECis, I’ll be honest. I haven’t seen much of UA due to being at UGA games and BBQ competitions so I appreciate the insight. Against the Bama D I look for a lot of outside runs, quick screens and moving pockets. I also like the quick slants ande fades on man coverage.

I think the GA D is the toughest Bama has seen and maybe will see this season. Curran in the middle is a hell of playmaker and Jones at safety can lay the wood.

I look for this to be a hard fought game and I’m not going to go so far as to make a prediction. I’ll be with a cold one at 9:00 a.m. Enjoy it.

reservoirDAWG….I am making predictions for fun. If there is one thing I have learned watching sports for the last 30 years, never make a prediction actually be serious about it.

I absolutely think that UGA’s D will be one of the best we face along with LSU and AU. UGA has some solid speep at the LB spot but I am not sure of what kind of depth you have. I am sure you have it but like you with UA, I have not watch too much of UGA this year. I think losing that big DT has hurt a bit as he was a beast. I think the most suspect part of your D is the secondary. What I did see of UGA last week, Evans have up too many catches as he plays too soft a cushion. As for our O, I think our OL will be up to the task. I have been hearing for years now how solid our OL was but then I would look at the RT spot and it looked like a hole for DE’s to run through. We are TOUGH at the point of attack. Caldwell is a solid center and probably top 5 in the country. Andre Smith is the best LT in college football and with Mike Johnson at LG, that has been a solid line to run behind. Drew Davis at RT has been 110x better than Chris Capps but then again, so was my 12 cousin playing middle school ball in Mobile! :) Our TE’s have definitely been a strength. Walker is a solid blocker and has developed nice hands. McCall is a solid blocker and we will often run 2 tight end sets that we will throw from. At WR, we have been solid but nt used much. When you rush for 300+ yards, you dont really have to throw the ball much. Julio is what everyone said and he will have the opportunity to prove it Sat. Mike McCoy, Marquiz Maze and Earl Alexander have also made some big plays this year. I am very confident with the team we have, we will give UGA a tougher game than we did last year. The difference I think you will find noticable is the fact that they are more of team than last year. We have not had great team unity since Shaun Alexander left and Saban has instilled that by bringing in great players who are finally starting to see he knows what he is talking about. Some of the guys last year did not and that was evident by having no players drafted.

Enjoy the game…..well, except for the outcome!! :)

I have to admit, Bama did beat an overrated Clemson team but it is still the highest rated team played by either Bama or Georgia by 18 spots.

2 teams played by Bama were cupcakes. And, Arkansas is only ranked 54th.

Georgia defeated of number 44 South Carolina and number 49 Arizona State. So, Georgia’s schedule has been marginally more difficult than Bama’s.

The amusement in the situation is that Tech’s schedule to date has been stronger than either UGA or Bama based on power rankings of opponents played.

So since Georgia is 3 and Bama is 7 after having demonstrated such overwhelming force against cupcake opposition, this weekend should be interesting.

If the game is close the bias in favor of the SEC will keep them in the top 15. But, if one gets blown out, they should drop like a rock.

We will see.

Instead of wearing “The Hat”, maybe everyone should just get a Saban “butt-cut”.

How Can Bama Win?

Defense must play lights out. Georgia has an impressive Offense. Good QB, good RB, at least 1 impressive WR. O-Line is the weak link. The Dawgs will make some plays. They won’t be shut down. If they put up 30 points — Bama loses.

Establish the run. This is the best Defense that Bama has faced this year. We won’t see any 80+ yard TD runs like we did in Arkansas. That’s okay. Just move the chains.

Ball control passing game. We don’t have to stretch the field with every pass attempt. Keep it simple and safe. Bama has about 10 good receivers. Spread it around with quick hits — similar to what Tulane brought against the Tide. This will keep the run game alive.

If all else fails… Alabama’s offense has been pretty vanilla so far. Why not? Vanilla has been all that has been needed. If it ain’t broke — don’t fix it. I can’t recall a single trick play this year. Do they have one?

If we start to see reverses or Halfback passes, then it will be because Georgia’s Defense is firing on all cylinders and shutting them down. I hope we don’t see anything fancy. If we do — I hope it works!

Ace in the hole Bama has played almost flawless football. This has been a pleasant surprise considering the number of young players on the field. Few penalties. Good turnover ratio.

The same can’t be said of Georgia. They are the most penalized team in the SEC and they have hurt themselves with turnovers. This could be a big factor in a close game.

Bama will have to improve their kick coverage and win the Special Teams battle. Kicking and kick return yardage are strengths for the Tide. Tackling looked weak at times against Arkansas. Bama will have to step it up on this particular fundamental aspect of the game.

I am proud to see the Crimson Tide have the opportunity to play in this game. This is what SEC football is all about. If you can’t get excited about this game, then you’re not a real college football fan.

Georgia has established themselves as an excellent football program. The Crimson Tide is giving the Bama Nation every reason to believe that they are developing into something very special. We’ll find out just how far they have come toward achieving that goal tomorrow night. I can’t wait for kickoff!

Lets not get into a conversation about how UGA has paid tribute to Vince Dooley, your best coach. Oh wait…nevermind…THEY HAVEN’T!!! As for the black, I understand you use it because the red, #3 ranking and nationally televised game and full day exposure by ESPN Gameday is just not enough to get your fans and players motivated. Georgia has hurt itself with turnovers? That’s news to me. We have turned the ball over a grand total of two times this year, which is two fewer times than Bama has turned it over. It must have really hurt to pull that out of your backside eh?

Oh, and here’s another gem:

“Georgia has….at least 1 impressive WR.”

“Bama has about 10 good receivers.”

LOL. I can think of one good Alabama reciever and he has only one more yard recieving than Georgia’s third best reciever. Ever heard of AJ Green? He has totally upstaged your boy Julio this year. Alabama has had 14 different players catch passes this year. Georgia has had 13. Wow. Big difference.

It must be nice to be a Bama fan and live completely oblivious to reality. I think I would like that.

Ok. I’m enjoying some actual football talk. I think what will happen is we will try to run betwewen the tackles first. If that don’t work then Knowshon will get the ball on some toss sweeps. Maybe some bubble screens to AJ & Knowshon. If Bama puts 8 or 9 in the box to stuff the run, MoMass and AJ will light it up down the field. I like UGA’s chances stuffing the run and forcing JPW to beat them, its been proven, hit JPW in the mouth or harrass him and he’ll make mistakes. Simple as that. Dawgs 24 Tide 14

I see why you call yourself “Huh?” — maybe “Duh?” would be more appropriate.

Georgia:

Georgia Southern: 2 Fumbles - Lost 1 +1 Interceptions 11 Penalties - 70 yards

Central Michigan: 2 Fumbles - Lost 1 +1 Interceptions 9 Penalties - 70 yards

South Carolina: 1 Fumble - Lost 1 -1 Interceptions 6 Penalties - 60 yards

Arizona State: 3 Fumbles - Lost 0 0 Interceptions 12 Penalties - 104 yards

Alabama:

Clemson: 0 Fumble - Lost 0 +1 Interceptions 6 Penalties - 40 yards

Tulane: 1 Fumble - Lost 1 0 Interceptions 6 Penalties - 43 yards

Western Kentucky: 1 Fumble - Lost 1 +1/-1 Interceptions 3 Penalties - 25 yards

Arkansas: 2 Fumbles - Lost 0 +4/-1 Interceptions 1 Penalties - 10 yards

Julio Jones in only a Freshman. While he is talented, Bama has several seasoned receivers at WR, TE, and in the Backfield.

I think our DB’s can handle the WR’s. If they stuff OUR run, that will be bad cause Saban’s blitz packages are ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL (remember LSU)…. That will be bad.. I agree… Heres too a great game. As a ‘Dawg (and UGA grad) living in Alabama (but not forever), I’ve learned to ignore the rednecks over here who claim to be ‘BAMA fans. Most of them have Dale Earnhardt stickers on the back window of their jacked-up, mud-laden, pickup truck and have never been to Tuscalooser in their lives, much less attended (or perish the thought, graduated from) the Univeristy of Alabama (but they go to Talladega twice a year). They think “The Bear” is reincarnated in Nick Saban, and then lose to LaMonroe (how much fun was that?!). And have lost to Auburn six years in a row. Listening to these idiots reminds me of Obama - they’re all empty suits (with a houndstooth hat). Come Sunday you’ll hear every excuse in the book from this team named after a laundry detergent - they’ve had plenty of practice the last ten years or so. ‘Dawgs will make it four wins in a row over these has-beens. And I’ll enjoy every minute of it Saturday night!

Guess what? I’m not nervous about coming back. Georgia might win, but Bama will play a good game. They’re a damn good team.

Truth is, it doesn’t make much sense for folks in Alabama and Georgia to spew redneck jokes back and forth. We’re all rednecks.

We have Georgia kids on our team and you have Alabama kids on your team. Just wish them all well and let them get started knocking the snot out of each other. We’ll see who survives it when it’s over.

UGA has the home field advantage, Alabama has more to prove. UGA has had a a weaker schedule, really..ASU is not a good football team, neither is S Carolina nor the 2 other chump teams UGA has played. Alabama has had the more harder schedule to this point. The Gators shot themselves in the foot today…about 20 times. Gosh, that was an embarrassing way to play football! The best team obviously does not always win, and especially when you have an idiot as an offensive coodinator. But the Gators are not out of it yet…they still control their own destiny in the SEC East and will be in the NC game still if they win out. The Dawgs will have their hands full tonight as well.

Yes, Mullen calls on the plays, BCS Slave. Unfortunately. Only Mullen would have called for Tebow to run up the middle against 10 guys on the line of scrimmage. Bama completely outclassed UGA there. Nick Saban is building a monster of a program in that school. Its quite frightening really.

Alabama was bigger, stronger, ad much more experenced in the trenches. They made UGA one deminsional on O and JPW played a hell of a game at QB. Bright spots for UGA. Jones held His own at C, more or less, playing most of the time one on one with Cody. Stafford played well considering the lack of protection, and Green is becoming a phenom. Southerland and Battle should be back for UT, and the Dawgs have a bye week to heal and get themselves back together. Things to wory about, young O line must grow up quickly, PENALTIES, Ellerbes injury, along with Durham, Chandler, Figgins and Moreno. Hopefully some of the nicks and dings will heal in the off week. My hat is off to Bama, You look like the strongest team in the SEC to Me. Hopefully the Dawgs will win out in the east and We will meet again in Atlanta. Cody,

By the same logic, Alabama is not all that either. UGA’s loss was a combination of things. The first half was the result of poor play calling by our defensive coach and unpreparedness of our team to play at the smash mouth level they should against good SEC competition. They were not prepared to do anything but what they’d been doing against lesser teams either.

The second half was more indicative of what the team can do. We blitzed more (a necessity when our D Line can’t get pressure on the qb. We did more hurry up offense (a necessity when your O Line is young and has not played together enough).

So to put it more plainly…UGA got whipped…out played and out coached. I tip my cap to the victors.

While choking down my portion of humble pie, I think it is good to remember that UGA is not out of the SEC race. Remember the second half and come out playing that way in the next game. Dawgs, true fans are behind you. It ain’t over yet. We might even get a second chance to beat Alabama this year in the SEC championship. So keep your heads up!

By BCS Slave

September 28, 2008 11:20 AM | Link to this

Bama didn’t “let up” in the third quarter. LOL. What if UGA hadn’t been so unprepared to play in the first qtr? Bama played the same game in the second half that they did in the first. UGA blitzed more (finally) and went into the hurry up (what they should have done in the first qtr.)

I tip my cap to the victors. But I won’t say they are any better than UGA or USC for that matter. They were better prepared and better coached in this game. If bama runs the table and wins the NC…then I will say bama is better.

But don’t get all hyped up just yet bama fans. Your team had a great game but they won’t play at that level for the rest of the year and your opponents won’t play as poorly as UGA did. Bama has the SEC bullseye on their backs now.

You should forget about polls too. They are garbage. Just worry about winning the west. Hopefully, UGA will pull it together and win the east. Then we’ll see how good you are.

BCS Slave…I am not quite sure what game you wanted but BAMA was by far the better team! BAMA let up in the 2nd half and Saban acknowledged it after the game! We played a terrible because we got comfortable. And how do you know BAMA wont play at the same level the rest of the season?? That would be like me saying UGA cant either. I am confident UGA can bounce back and play better games than they played last night. I am also confident that BAMA can match this same intensity we have last night and I think we can do it with any lame gimmicks like a black out!!!

TideinGA,

What makes you think bama is so good? You beat a Clemson team that has been proven weak over the past five games. You say UGA is all hype, so by your poor excuse for logic, then bams STILL HASN’T PLAYED A GOOD TEAM. You’ve just whooped up on us poor Div II teams. If you want to believe that the media “experts” who ranked bama know what they are talking about…just look at their track record this week. They know nothing. So…by dissing UGA, you just dis your team. Idiot.

All you got MORON is one game. Bama played better than UGA in ONE GAME. You guys won’t run the table. When you get beat, come in here and tell us how you were cheated. When the poll voters drop you 15 places in the polls for losing, come in here and tell us you were not “jobbed” by the voters.

UGA was out played and out coached in this game. I tip my hat to the victors.

Tony - you had it all wrong, bro. It was #3 that needed to watch out!

Alabama-LSU is shaping up to be a great game. The winner probably wins in the SEC.

UGA is a good team that had a bad day. They could still get a BCS game if they win out. But I think there is still one or two loses with that schedule.

I think the ACC is getting a bad rap since the poor showing in week one. Since then they are winning a lot of out of conference games, while the PAC10 is shaping up to be the pitiful conf. But I don’t hear anyone at ESPN talking about that.

Final thought, I don’t think Texas is a top 5 team. I don’t see them with less than 2 losses between TT, OU, Mizzou, Kan. They could even get upset next week in Boulder. Local coverage here in Austin is pathetic- they are all whining that the talk in the Big12 is about OU and Mizzou and not about them. Gimme a break.

Secis,

Please. The coaches didn’t let up on play calling…I saw the game. They were calling the same game in the second half offensively as they did in the first half. They played more conservatively on defense…but that is not “letting up”. If Saban wants to say the players let up in the second half…he’s been saying that since he started in ALA. What is bad is that you claim to respect UGA…but won’t give them credit for taking to bama in the second half.

And as I have said repeatedly, bama was the better team in THIS game. Quote, “UGA got out played and out coached in THIS game. I tip my hat to the victors.” Does that sound familiar? Or are you just ignoring everything else I’ve said?

I can say with CERTAINTY that bama will not, as I have said, “run the table.” They will not play with the same intensity (though I didn’t use that word) as they did last night. By your coach’s own admission, they didn’t play with the same intensity in the second half, let alone for an entire season. So you can hope that bama will be all world. But frankly, I’ve been playing and watching football all my life. Bama is just as prone to injury…just as prone to mental mistakes…just as prone flat play as any team. The SEC is much more competitive these days. Any team can be beaten by any team.

By the way…the black out is not a “gimmick”. It is about UGA, not ALA. Our players wanted to wear black jerseys long before last season. Richt has said he did that for the players and the fans, who also clamored for black jerseys. The media has wrongly played up the motivation factor. Those who did for this year were just flat our wrong. If it motivates the fans, great. The team has won far more games than they’ve lost under Richt wearing RED and White jerseys. I know bama wanted to make something of it…If false informaion motivates you…more power to you.

BCS….I give UGA all the credit and think the can bounce back. They need to learn discipline. Way too many ridiculous penalties. UGA came into the game leading the league in penalty yards and last night didnt help their case. As for BAMA, what Saban said was in the 2nd half our team lost their intensity. That was very evident!

The Blackout was hyped up by UGA fans, coaches, players and the media all week. We heard fear the blackout all week because it was supposed to make the players and fans more intense and intimidating. We proved last night that it didnt work!! My guess is it will lose its luster after last night.

By BCS Slave

September 28, 2008 3:51 PM | Link to this

SEC,

Perhaps in the second half, UGA took it to you and it made you look like you lost your intensity. That would be giving UGA credit. Instead, what you essentially say is that UGA would have been beaten by 60 to nothing if Bama handn’t let up. I don’t care if you give UGA credit for beating you in the second half or not.

The penalty situation for us is not as it seems. I’ve seen all the games and while we’ve legitimately committed penalties, there have been quie a few phantom calls too, while some notable no calls on other teams caused us to lose yardage. So I’m tired of hearing about penalties. Yes we need more discipline. Yes, the refs need to get over the endzone celebration last year too. Bad calls and far too many no calls have hurt us as much as the legit penalties have. Still, THIS IS NO EXCUSE for losing. If we stop with the obvious stuff that we are guilty of, we’ll be ok.

The blackout was hyped by FANS. ALA defensive coach hyped it too. Mark Richt responded to the YouTube video of the Ala coach. That is how the “hype” happened this year. Richt said from day one he was doing it at the request of the seniors. He didn’t try to surprise anyone…announcing it at the beginning of the week. It was not really a gimmick…except to the ala coaches. I didn’t read any comment from players or coaches (except the off hand reference Richt made to the Alabama coach’s “funeral” comment.) I agree, the fans won’t make such a big deal out of it any more.

My I don’t need comments to get the Dawgs into the title game. They played in three. How many has bama played in? How many 10 win seasons has bama had in the past ten years? UGA had the same issue last year with the O Lines and when the lines gelled, they went on a tear and won the rest of their games. Earlier losses prevented UGA from getting into the SECC. UT got in on a tie breaker.

Of course nothing is certain…especially that the Tide will get there, if past performance is any indication. But if you want to be civil…take the snide comments somewhere else.

BCS Slave,

Alabama has played in 5 SEC Championship games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SECChampionshipGame

Alabama has had 2 Ten Win Seasons in the past ten years. 1999 & 2005

As for some of your earlier comments, the only missed call that I saw in Saturday night’s game was a blatant block in the back against Alabama on Georgia’s kick return for a TD.

The officials aren’t flagging your team for celebrating against Florida. They are flagging them for breaking the rules.

You may say that you “know” that Bama will lose this year — if it makes you feel better. The truth is that you don’t know that any more than I do.

Georgia lost. Get over it. They have a good football team and the season is far from over. Chances are good for a re-match in December. If that happens, then smack talk won’t win the game for either of our teams. Blocking and tackling will have much more to do with determining the outcome.

By BCS Slave

September 30, 2008 4:47 PM | Link to this

TrueCrimson,

As for “getting over” the bama loss…if you had paid attention to what I wrote on this blog, you would have known I have given bama credit. The get over it comment is just moronic.

My comments on SECC and number of wins per season were not intended to criticze bama. They were being used to criticize the polls. I had forgotten about the CC in 1999. But this does not negate the point. In the past nine years then, Bama’s seasons were not stellar. It is still not justification for bama’s rise in the polls.

My agenda, clearly stated over and over again is to criticize the polls by pointing out obvious bias. Bama struggled with Tulane and instead of being bumped down in the polls as some teams have been when struggling with inferior opponents, they climbed. They have jumped over other undefeated teams who were ranked higher and should not have lost position on the top spot. I’ve heard talking heads trying to justify it…they are inconsistent and frankly, lame.

The polls are biased. The rankings are nothing more than a beauty contest. If UGA wasn’t as good as the poll voters suggest, and if USC was not, and Florida was not, then perhaps bama is not. There is no validity to these things.

Frankly, I was over UGA’s loss before the game was played. Our lines were a big weakness going against bama’s strength most rational fans knew what could happen. So I am not whining, this is not sour grapes, I am sick of college football being cheapened by money grubbing college presidents and the media who hype teams and ignore teams at their pleasure. They want the payout for the hype of ranked teams playing each other. The media is about market share and ad dollars, and their agenda is to stir up fans and promote their darlings for national spotlight. Bama’s history makes them a recognizable team to get ratings. Their recent history, however, does not justify a rise to number two in the polls at this juncture of the season.

We need a playoff in college football. Polls should not come out before conference championships are played. Only conference champions (who won a championship game) should be ranked at the top of the polls. Then a plus one system using existing bowls to decide the two NC teams would give us something that is vastly better than we have now.

Lastly, in regard to your comment about the block in the back…even the announcers seeing it on replay said when the helmet is in front of a player…it will not be called. I actually played back the game in slow motion. As with EVERY football came, there are a ton of no calls on both teams. I never said anything about “bad” calls against UGA in the bama game. I was referring each of the four games we’ve played this season. Have you watched all those games moron? Have you studied the film to determine the bad calls and no calls morons? It is a hobby of mine. Bama receivers pushed off. UGA receivers pushed off. Linemen held on both sides.

My point is that over the course of five games, the refs have called penalties against UGA that they seem to miss when other teams commit them in the same game. UGA has NEVER had such a problem with penalties. This is something that started last year after the FL game and has continued into this year. When there is such a wide difference in penalty yards between UGA and opponents, I am right to question…as I have…you are right to question if there is a lingering effect from the celebration last year. It is not unheard of in sports at every level that refs would be influenced by teams reputations.

With all this said…and I have enoyed the opportunity to say it again…my agenda is simply this:

College Presidents—-give us a playoff.

By Just the Facts

September 30, 2008 5:03 PM | Link to this

Actually, Bama has 3 ten-win seasons in the last 10 years: 1999, 2002, and 2005. We actually won the West in 2002 but didn’t get to go the title game because of the postseason ban handed down earlier that season.

In fact, 22 consecutive Bama senior classes (since 1986) have had at least one 10-win season during their careers. 11 of those classes had at least two 10-win seasons. And 11 of those classes also had at least one SEC Championship (Bama has 3 in the last 20 years: 1989, 1992, and 1999).

BCS Slave: It’s good to see someone so zealous for their team, but you’re delusional if you think you can run the table against LSU, Florida, and Auburn. Bama too will have a hard time getting past LSU and Auburn to get to the championship game.

And the whole point is that the past, and the what-if’s and the if-only’s and the when-we-do-this-in-the-future’s, have absolutely nothing to do with the present. If past performance meant anything, Florida would have been awarded a win over Ole Miss without having to play the game.

As of right now, Bama is a better team than Georgia, plain and simple. There’s no logical or reasonable way to dispute it. That “furious rally” of Georgia’s ended with the punt return TD. After that, Bama put up 10 more points in the 4th quarter when they had to and the game was over, making those last 2 TDs Georgia got absolutely meaningless, as they in no way were going to affect the outcome of the game.

Will Bama be the better team at the end of the season? There’s no way to tell but it sure will be fun to watch.

By BCS Slave

October 1, 2008 3:42 PM | Link to this

Just the facts,

Pay attention. If you can’t pay attention, just don’t respond.

I never said UGA would run the table. Never. As for Bama doing it…I feel the same way.

Frankly, three ten win seasons does nothing to refute the arguments I’ve made concerning the polls. Again, pay attention. I’ve been making an argument that is apparently beyond your capacity. I am not now, nor have I said UGA is better than bama. I have said Bama is not as good as they looked against UGA. Big difference. Again, the thrust of my argument is about the polls. I’ve actually been saying LSU got ripped this week in the polls. My agenda…a playoff.

The past DOES matter in the polls. Schools are given more credit for recent past performance. Schools with legendary coaches, like bama, will get more credit with just a little success because of their past…even if most of the glory is ancient. Bama has a fanatical following and that gets TV ratings…hence ESPuke’s promotion and bias. Poll voters see Saban’s name and a score…that’s about as far as they seem to be able to evaluate. Given that most of their top picks get beaten every year, there is no validity in the poll voters opionions. Hence the questionable rise of bama to 2.

If Florida wins their next game and vaults several places and bumps bama down a notch…I’ll be griping about that. Had the teams bama vaulted in the polls moved up in order, I would not even be talking about bama at all.

As for the comment about getting into the SECC, it is too early to know how many wins it will take. I’ve not made any specific comments about that so it seems you are assuming two losses will keep a team out. That all depends on who beats who in the division. I’ve said that last year we had the same questions about the line, they were makeshift, and we lost two games before they gelled. So if our line gels in time…I believe we will be in that SECC. There is a big IF here. But if it happens, I hope bama makes it too.

Does that sound like someone who is “zealous” for his team? I want UGA to do well, but I want a playoff in college football more. Frankly, I got sick of saying, “we were outcoached and out played…I tip my cap to the victors” to have moron bama fans continue to denigrate my team. So I talked a little smack right back at them. If you had paid attention to my arguments about the polls, you would have seen this.

But thanks for your attempt to correct me, because it gives me another chance to say…

College presidents—give us a playoff.

BCS Slave,

I was the first to come here and congratulate Georgia when they beat Bama last year. We have some obnoxious fans. Every program does.

What I didn’t do was come on this blog and insist that I knew that Georgia would lose a game before the season ended. I didn’t complain about the officiating.

You (and others) have claimed that Georgia is being penalized this year for an unsportsmanlike conduct violation against Florida last year. Georgia’s greatest number of penalties this year prior to playing Alabama came from a PAC 10 crew. Do you really think that they have an agenda against Georgia?

I agree that Georgia shouldn’t have dropped in the polls while they were winning every game. That wouldn’t have mattered if they had continued to win. If they had won last Saturday, they would be Number 1 again and you would be happy.

The polls are very subjective at the beginning of the year. They are guesses based on last year’s performance and an estimate of the quality of the new recruits. This works itself out during the season. The system isn’t perfect, but it is improved over what it once was.

In the end, it’s only a dadgum game. It’s not like we’re electing the President here. If the wrong team is awarded the title, then everyone will know it and discuss it. Auburn still discusses 2004. I could complain about a couple of years in the 1960’s when I think that Bama got stiffed. What’s the point? It’s only a game.

As for the Tulane game. Alabama won by 14 points. The outcome of the game was never in question. Compare that to Georgia’s victory over South Carolina. A win is a win.

Alabama hasn’t been given anything in the polls this year. They have earned their current position. I think that they should be Number 1 — but I don’t get a vote. I’ll just have to get over it!

True Crimson,

LOL…I was the first to congratulate bama in their win over UGA. I didn’t do it just once…I did it repeatedly.

As for “knowing” bama will lose this year, that was an exaggeration. They have not shown they are good enough to run the table. Few SEC teams do. So no, I don’t know it. However, I am almost certain they won’t.

Officiating: I never said UGA lost the game with bama due to officiating. Moron, as usual, you missed the point. I never said the officials were retaliating for the endzone celebration last year. I QUESTIONED if they were based on the TOTAL experience over five games. After careful review of those contests I had reason to question. Officials, who are HUMAN, are not immune to being influenced by things like home field advantage, a team’s reputation, or even, as we’ve seen over the years, illegal gambling. So do you really think it is outside the realm of possibility that officials might call UGA tighter after what they perceived as a slap in a face by a team who planned to flaunt the rules?

On the polls, you are a moron. I am aware of how the preseaon polls work. That does not mean that things work themselves out. It is much more complex than that…beyond you capacity.

This system is not improved over what it once was because it claims to decide a NC. Media bias is clear…coaching bias is clear…even people who vote in the polls now say it is a beauty contest. Money now, more than ever, drives the results. It would be better to return to bowls being nothing more than interesting matchups and drop all rankings and the NC game. That would at least preserve the integrity of regional competition and eliminate the larger, meaningless national discussion.

As for your stupid comment, “In the end, it’s only a dadgum game”—- Then why are you here responding to me? Are you supporting your team? Do you just like to argue? Whatever the reason, your passion is no more valid than mine. Your reason for continuing this discussion is no more valid than mine. LMAO.

Talking about the Tulane game…again, moron, you missed my point. In discussing the polls, a win is not just a win. It doesn’t matter that you and I agree that a 14 point win should be as good as a 1 point win. For the polls, it matters. UGA won their first two games by greater margins than that and lost ground in the polls. UGA was criticized for beating SCar by 7—bama was rewarded for their win. LSU lost a game in overtime and that was seen as a plus…it was somehow deemed as better than some teams wins. In talking about polls, which was my point, a win is not just a win and a loss is not just a loss. And to top it all off…the criteria shifts from year to year. This further proves my point about the polls.

Alabama HAS been given EVERYTHING in the polls this year. They have not earned it any more than any team does in this beauty contest. Bama is being rewarded for the coach’s reputation and for their storied, ancient past. They deserve being number 2 no more than any team who has occupied that spot this year. Bama is a good team, however, they have not proven they are better than any team that has been number 2. It is arguable, given the way UGA played, that they have proven they are a better team than UGA. They were in one game. That’s about all one can conclude by bama’s win.

As for getting over it…LMAO. You are hilarious. Yes, you’ll have to get over it. And in trying to win a debate with me over polls…you’ll just have to get over it. When bama loses, I probably won’t be talking about them anymore…unless the polls do something else as ridiculous as putting them number two at this point in the season. If that happens, I will continue to make the arguments against the polls and…dadgum it…I’ll have to sacrareligiously mention bama as…dare I say it…undeserving. Guess what…when it happens, you’ll just have to get over it!
