Will UGA’s Ben Jones sleep on Friday night?

Five burning questions as we head into the weekend:

1. Will Ben Jones get much sleep Friday night? Arkansas has the nation’s best center in Jonathan Luigs, who last season won the Rimington Award, which goes to the nation’s best player at that position. Last Saturday Luigs was getting help on just about every play and he still had his hands full with Alabama nose tackle Terrence “Mount” Cody, who is 6-5 and at least 370 pounds. Arkansas had 92 yards rushing on 31 carries. Georgia’s Jones (6-2, 306) is a true freshman who just turned 19 years old. Going up against a grown man like Cody is enough to make anybody nervous. But Jones played at Bibb County High School in Centreville, Ala. And when you chose to leave that state (Ben’s dad attended Georgia) to play elsewhere in the SEC, facing Alabama is a really big deal. A lot of people are going to be watching that matchup because it’s going to be one of the factors that decide the game.

2. How big is the Auburn game for Tennessee? Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer was defiant in his press conference this week insisting that he and his coaching staff “know what we’re doing” in the wake of severe criticism after last Saturday’s 30-6 home loss to Florida. I don’t want to get too melodramatic here, but Saturday’s game at Auburn is one of the biggest in Fulmer’s 17-year career as a head coach. Here’s why: Another loss puts Tennessee at 1-3 with a non-conference game against Northern Illinois coming up next week. The media reports after that will focus almost entirely on Fulmer’s future (despite a $5.5 million buyout) and the thousands of empty seats that will surely be there for next Saturday’s game. Then Tennessee has to go back on the road to play at Georgia on Oct. 11. Fulmer proved he could coach well last season when his back was to the wall. Well, he’s there again.

3. Will Florida show us ANYTHING against Ole Miss? I expect the Gators to come out a little flat against an Ole Miss team that has already lost to Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. Florida certainly wins the game but it will probably be a little sloppy. Coach Urban Meyer will fuss a little bit about focus and a lack of execution. But understand what the end game is here. Florida got a huge gift last week when the Gators barely had to break a sweat to beat Tennessee on the road. Now they can basically put it in cruise control against Ole Miss this week and Arkansas next week. Whatever real wrinkles Meyer and OC Dan Mullen have in the offense they can save for LSU’s visit on Oct. 11.

4. Will Stephen Garcia be the answer at South Carolina? Garcia has been Steve Spurrier’s most high profile quarterback recruit in four years at South Carolina. He has also been the biggest headache for the Head Ball Coach. Based on his prior behavior, Garcia is everything that Spurrier does not like in a quarterback: Undisciplined, unpredictable, and unreliable. But here is the reality. Garcia, for all of his flaws, is the most talented player that Spurrier has at the position. So this week against a bad UAB team Spurrier is going to take off the training wheels and give the redshirt freshman a shot. Spurrier has to do something because the South Carolina offense, especially with WR Kenny McKinley hurt, is just incredibly bad. South Carolina has SEC games coming up with Ole Miss, Kentucky, and LSU before the Gamecocks get an open date on Oct. 25. So Spurrier is going to throw Garcia out there on Saturday and see what happens. Just a word of advice to the HBC: Staple that visor to your head.

5. Is Florida State’s season on the line against Colorado? After two impressive tune-ups against Division I-AA Western Carolina and Chattanooga, Florida State was supposed to take a step forward last Saturday night against Wake Forest. Instead, the Seminoles took two steps back with seven turnovers in a 12-3 loss. This Saturday against Colorado, Florida State will have no excuses. The Seminoles (2-1) finally have their entire team because the suspensions in the academic cheating scandal have ended. Colorado appears to be a decent team after beating West Virginia last Thursday night. But if the Florida State program is indeed moving forward after consecutive 7-6 seasons, this is a game that the Seminoles should win. Another loss will generate a lot of discussion that the FSU program can’t truly move forward until head coach Bobby Bowden finally retires and Jimbo Fisher takes complete control. And that won’t be pretty.

I know this question has been raised before, but I don’t know the answer. If FSU’s offense sputters and they end up with another poor season(s), does Jimbo still get the job? That is a weird situation.

Agreed, Cody will be a big test for the ‘Dogs OL. BUT, this will be the first really decent team he’s faced. Arkansas is B-A-D. I watched the game, and shook my head how bad the ‘Hogs are. Petrino looks to have bought a “pig in a poke,” if you get my drift. The SEC ain’t Conference USA or whatever conference Louisville plays in. Also agreed, the ‘Dogs have GOT to bring their “A” game on Saturday night. They’ve got plenty of offensive weapons to offset Cody. It’s a matter of making it happen. Good teams make it happen. I reality, the game at ASU last weekend should have ended with a 45-10 win for GA.The ‘Dogs cannot leave those types of scoring opportunities on the table against the Tide. Still, gonna be a great game. Still think the ‘Dogs will finish 10-2. Schedule just too tough for much better.

As a Tennessee fan, I truly believe Fulmer’s time has come. The rest of the conference has passed him and he is losing his recruiting edge. While he is a proud, successful coach, someone in the Tennessee family needs to pull him aside and let him know what is happening to the program in the last 4 years. I bet if he was to realize how badly they have declined into mediocrity, he will step down at seasons end.

Now that JoePa has taken his record back for the most wins in Div-1, Bobby can go ahead and step down….because he won’t get it back. They’ll lose at least 4 more games (Colorado, Miami, Georgia Tech, and Florida) this year. Penn State’s worst scenario is losing two games this year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they only lost 1 or found a way to go undefeated in the Little-10 + PSU conference.

FSU has no offensive linemen, and thus no shot at a decent season. I believe they start three freshmen and two sophomores, one of whom is a JC transfer. The Noles are pretty good everywhere else, and anyone who doesn’t understand how important the OL is only has to watch this team.

The media is largely to blame for what Fulmer is facing. They have really never embraced him because of his weight and his non football coach look. He doesn’t grace the sidelines with propperly coiffed hair, or trendy sunglasses, or nice sweaters etc.The media had made him the whipping boy. It is unfortunate that the fans have listened to the stuff that the media tosses out there as to “who is on the hot seat” and “his back is against the wall, or this is an imprtant game”. I find it odd that former players from the early 90’s and the mid 90’s to today’s players have nothing but great things to say about him and his coahing ability. Tony, I would be interested in what you have heard Tee Martin say on that TV show you guys are on.For the fans of UT, I would ask who would you get that has the ability and proven track record to get some of the best out of state talent. Yes, you may luck out and find a good coah, but can he recruit, because if he is relying on the talent in-state he would be in a heap of trouble.

(1) Interesting family and geographical ties. Real rivalries, real loyalties to school and state, real family ties. This is why NCAA football is so much more fun than the NFL.

(2) Based on the level of coaching an pregame preparation exhibited in the UCLA and UF games, Fulmer should be checking his 401(k) and investments accounts, and his assistants should be updating their resumes. Change is in the air, football fans.

(3) I hope the Florida-Ole Miss game is not a slopfest. The Gators really need to uncork their offense and let it run (but not show the full range of plays). The Gator O needs to stretch its legs before the LSU showdown.

(4) Garcia clearly lacks off-the-field discipline, and would have been banished to the reserves at Florida where Spurrier was always three or four players deep in 4 and 5-star quarterbacks. Problem is, at USC, Spurrier is out of options to run his offense. Either Garcia performs or Spurrier guts out another mediocre season on the strength of his defense. This has got to be killing the Evil Genius.

(5) Every Division I/FBS opponent is a potential signature win and a program turner, but programs rarely succeed or fail on the basis of one game. It’s about consistency, trends, and winning more of the Big Games than you lose. IMHO, FSU will not finally turn the corner until The Legend finally retires.

Ben Jones and UGA are the one’s that are gonna have a BAD night. There’s gonna be a lot of crying and mourning in Athens.

Fulmer is good as gone in a few more weeks. I hope not but that looks like what will happen. The question is, who would replace him if he’s fired. Would Cutliffe come back to take over? Could UT buy out both contracts? I don’t think so.

How many years was Meyer at Florida before he won his first SEC and first NC? How many years was Richt at UGA beofre he won his first SEC title? Fulmer won his first SEC in within 5 years. A NC in 6yrs.UT has played in the SECCG 5 of the last 11 times (pert near 50%) Sure he hasn’t won all of them, but being in the game itself is better than 10 teams in the SEC.I wonder if the Dawg fans will howl, and if UF fans and Saban fans and Tubberville fans, and Miles fans will be ready to fire their coach if they can’t reach the SECCG with the same consistency as UT has. Think about the number of times each of these teams have been in the SECCG and then think about the number of years it has been since they have been back. Makes you go hummm.

Tennessee, with its uncreative offense, will, as it has done in the past, surprise people by knocking off a couple of the big boys. Florida will crush Ole Miss. South Corolina is quite a puzzle. Nobody has an answer as to why the best coach in college football has an uncompetitive team. Alabama’s noseguard should be a factor in the Georgia game this weekend, but don’t forget about Georgia’s defensive line. They should cause some problems for John Parker Wilson as well. At this point, nobody cares about Florida State vs. the Buffaloes. Chris Fowler and Joe Sakic might be the only people in the western hemisphere able to locate Colorado on a map.

Nobody likes to lose … especially fans in the SEC. But Tennessee fans need to chill out regarding Coach Fulmer and remember how screwed up their program was before he arrived. Tennessee has a heck of a good coach with him at the helm and they will regret it if he is forced out after the season. I say this as a full-blooded bulldawg who loves to beat the Vols every chance we get but who also respects the Tennessee program under Fulmer as a good one. You Tennessee folks be careful what you wish for … it could set your program back 20 years.

That nose guard for Bama is a monster! But he will not be able to keep Georgia from pulling away from the receding tide… Tennessee’s biggest crime was embarrassing the SEC against UCLA. They still have a lot of good football players. If they do can Phil, they (or somebody) should go after Jim Grobe!… Ole Miss will play better than they did last week, but it should still be not quite enough to win in the SWAMP.. Poor Spurrier, he looks like he is imploding on that SC sideline. With their defense, just a little offense would go a long way… FSU blew their chance at a great season last week. Wake would have to lose 2 ACC games, just for the Noles to be in contention for their half of the acc. If they can find a little offense, maybe they can build some momentum. After the Buffs, the “U” waits down in Miami…past time to go Bobby…when Richt left, so did the dynasty…

Well if Ben is gonna lose some sleep then I expect that we need to call up the ghosts of Alabama games past…namely 1976 when a wandering band of Bulldog revelers managed to parade around the motel where the Tide was staying Friday night - way into the wee hours - supposedly keeping those poor boys awake most of the night. Whatever the story we kicked ‘em 21-zip…I believe it was also the last time (and probably the only time prior to now) that the two teams were both rated in the top ten going into the game.

To answer your question, Meyer won the SEC and NC in his second season at UF. … Fulmer’s problems are because of the media? Are you kidding? I guess his 11-19 record against ranked opponents over the last seven seasons (in spite of having the largest recruiting budget in the country and a highly ranked recruiting class every year, not to mention state-of-the-art facilities) has nothing to do with his current problems?

As usual, on any football blog, we have to hear about how POWERFUL the SEC is. However in the same blog, we are hearing about how bad most of the SEC teams are…so why is the SEC so great. This year, even though alittle early to tell, the SEC appears to have 4 good teams…these would be FL, AL, LSU, GA..since all have played patsy schedules, we have to wait a little longer to tell. As to the other powerhouses of the SEC, it is pretty clear that AR, SC, Miss State, Miss, TN, Auburn are just mediocre…KY and Vandy are just KY and Vandy…so, why is the SEC so highly rated? I think too much has been made of LSU and FL blowing out the always over-rated Buckeyes from the mediocre Big 10 conference. Seems to me a lot of conferences are pretty similar…most have a few good teams at the top, and pretty weak teams under them. SEC doesn’t look any stronger than the rest.

Cody is not overrated. He is the real deal. Jones will have his hands full for sure, but you don’t run over Terrance Cody. You run around him and that’s exactly what Georgia will do. Maybe we can confuse him with some trap blocks and misdirection. Containing Cody is a tall order but not impossible. He is going to make some plays and disrupt things. Its inevitable. You just have to keep those plays to a bare minimum so that he doesn’t effect the outcome of the game. I think Georgia does most of its damage in the passing game anyway.

Then again, I have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. Long live the internet.

As a Vol fan, I have to say that there are a lot of good comments, both for and against Fulmer, in the blog today.

The fact is that Fulmer elevated TN from the mediocrity of the Johnny Majors years. When Cutcliffe was at his side, he was for awhile the winningest active coach. Without Cutcliffe and as the SEC brought in more imaginative quality coaches, TN fell into the upper middle of the pack.

I am conflicted. TN has never had the high school feader system that Florida, Georgia, and even Alabama and LSU have, so it has to recruit nationally. With Coach Cut’s ability to develop NFL quarterbacks, and the absolute reality that until recently Fulmer has been a master recruiter, TN has been able to overcome that dilemma. However it seems that those days are behind us. So what do we do?

Money will not be an issue, Haslam (Pilot Oil) could write a check for the buyout himself, but can we find someone who is younger, talented, and most important, can recruit nationally? I just do not know.

True Meyer did win early (which some may feel he did with Zooks recruits) Nonetheless, how many has he won since? Not to diminish his ability as a coach ( I think he he very good). As for UT and their facilities…they have built those over many, many years.Other teams are either catching them or passing them in that area.Their recruiting budget has to be very big when you consider where they have to recruit. They don’t have the luxery of pulling kids from in-state like TX,USC,Fl,Miami,FSU,UCF,SoFL,UGA etc. You could not field a great all-star team with the in-state talent in Tenn.It has ALWAYS been like that. It costs a fortune to fly, drive, stay, eat for all the coahes to travel the country to try to build a team.As for the media, look at the Zooker, look at Shula at Bama, look at Tubberville, heck look at Les Miles. They all have been or are the media whipping boys. That don’t mean they actually get the coach fired, but it is likely to fuel the hate from the fans toward the coach.

Curious:

Vandy is no slouch this year. UGA also has the meatiest SEC sked—period—and Tech will be the toughest we have been in years.

SoS will become a factor—not just because of UGA’s early-season cupcake pigout, but also because of some potential soft spots in the SEC that will come in to play regarding analysis of “opponents’ opponents”. Not to mention the usual state of the Pac-10 with ASU and the rebuilding in various parts of the ACC regarding Tech, in the case of UGA.

SEC needs to play more BCS teams more often. This is not a slam on UGA—with a Pac-10 and an ACC OOC game—but the rest of the SEC. Gotta make sure your opponents are also playing quality opponents (and win, coughAuburncoughTennesseecough).

If Okie &/or Southern Cal takes a loss, though, and still pushes an undefeated UGA out of the title game, call 911 because UGA was robbed. Don’t think that’ll happen, though.

If UGA wins ‘em all, I would personally hand that crystal football to CMR.

Tough test for the UGA o-line going against Cody and the rest of the Bama d-line. Hopefully Cody can get worn down throughout the game. UGA can substitute multiple personnel across the line, so our side should remain fresh. I’m not keen on the depth of Bama’s d-line. Should be a close game, I don’t foresee a blowout or a high-scoring game. I think 24pts gets a team the win in this one. I’m looking forward to it.

This is the second straight week that Tony has claimed some SEC team is holding things back and sandbagging. Last week it was Auburn. Now its Florida. Tony, I’m as big of an SEC homer as they come, but this is getting ridiculous. Nobody is sandbagging anymore. We’re past the D-1aa and non-BCS creampuffs. Florida is playing its SEC schedule now. They didn’t exactly light Ole Miss up last year and I’m sure they remember that. And Ole Miss is undoubtedly better than they were at this point last year. Its probably not too much of a stretch to say that Ole Miss is better than Tennessee right now. Florida will not be holding back. They will be trying to win the game. If they look sloppy its probably because they aren’t as good as you think they are. The media has had no problem extending that same logic to Georgia after it “struggled” against South Carolina. Why should any other SEC team be any different? This is a line of garbage.

Jabster, Congrats on going out of the South for the first time since most of the GA fans were born to play an OOC game. And yes, Tennessee laid an egg twice opening the season against PAC-10 teams but they have always played good OOC teams whether it be Miami (02-03), UCLA, Syracuse,Fresno State, Cal, Notre Dame with upcoming opponents of Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon, Oklahoma with some of these games we open the season at their place. So I would not knock Tennessee’s OOC endeavors with scheduling past and future like that.

To me Tennessee’s loss to Florida was not the debacle its being made into. Tennessee turned the ball over inside the 10 twice in the first half, outgained the Gators and didn’t give up a sack. They aren’t as bad as that loss and we(Florida) aren’t as good as the score looked. The one area that Tennessee got dominated in was special teams. A very important area, but if they had been smarter and more conservative they might have been able to limit that problem. There aren’t any teams left on their schedule that have a Brandon James or put as many starters on special teams as Florida does.

I’ll bet anyone this: Tennessee will beat one of these three teams - Auburn, Georgia, or Alabama. Anybody up for the challenge?

Terrence “Pork Pie” Cody I believe, was rated as the 30th something junior college prospect last year. He is a heart attack waiting to happen and after trying to chase down Knowshon and Caleb and Samuels he will be exhausted by the end of the first half. Has he actually tackled anybody this year? Just a fat body taking up space. Georgia is not a run up the middle team. Clog up the middle and then run around it.

Fulmer’s slide began about the time Coach Richt virtually closed the state of Georgia to him in recruiting. A blind hog will root up an acorn now and then (Eric Berry), but gone are the days when he can come in and snap up multiple big time recruits like he did to Donnan.

Ole Miss has shocked Florida before, in fact both Mississippi schools have been thorns in the side of the gayturds. Another miracle in Oxford? Probably not, but one can dream.

Garcia is not going to save Usc. Joe Montana couldn’t save Usc. Why would any big time QB recruit even want to visit that septic tank in Columbia let alone play for that old crab?

FSU hasn’t been the same since Coach Richt left to coach the DAWGS. QB’s that used to sign with FSU now sign with Georgia. Again, gone are the days when FSU was on every Georgia recruits list.

So Alabama hasn’t faced a tough team yet? Hmmm… Clemson only has one loss and has decimated its other opponents, Tulane almost upset ECU, and W. 1- Jones is quite a carachter. A country boy from a little class A school in Alabama with a streak of nasty. CMR offered him after camp in Athens, where Richt said “all he did was beat everybody I sent at him”. According to Stafford, Jones isn’t saying much this week but “he has that crazy look in his eyes.” It should be a hell of a battle in the trenches. 2- This is a big game, but I don’t think Fulmer’s job depends on a win. Win Fulmer was winning titles UT and UF dominated the SEC. Get by Spurrier and You had a championship. Those days are gone, too many good coaches in the conference today. No team will dominate the SEC now. Another difference is recruiting. Saban, Richt, Miles, and Meyer are recruiting devils, and they are in states with more athletes than Tenn. To add insult to injury, Richt already has a commit from a four star O lineman from memphis, and all of these guys are after Marlon Brown, a five star WR from the same town. 3- Meryer should go in, get the win, and go home. If YOu get a big lead Urban, yOu might try playing a back up QB. Just a thought. 4- Garcia has not shown himself to be dependable. If he is SOS’s best hope then the future looks dark. The OBC can make Garcia a good QB, if he will work hard and listen. Two traits that Garcia has been lacking. 5- FSU’s 2008 season ended last year.

Terrence Cody is truly a mountain of a man. He is deceptively athletic for such a huge guy. He moves quickly, has admirable stamina and has been involved in numerous tackles this season. He is also pretty decent on the basketball court, where he can actually execute a dunk.

His greatest value, however, may be in attracting all of the attention of opposing Offensive Lines and their coaches. He is surrounded by many quality players on Alabama’s Defensive Line. It is easy to overlook the fact that Bama’s D-Line performance doesn’t drop off when he rotates with Josh Chapman — a mere 303 pound Sophomore.

Georgia has a star running back in Moreno. I hope that Alabama manages to limit the Georgia running game, because that will present the opportunity to watch the Bama pick 6 crew perform their magic once again this week.

Javier Arenas has proven his tenacity as a Defensive Back. But the fun really starts when he gets the ball in the open field. He is hard to stop when a kicking team is converging on him. When he gets a pick against an Offensive squad — it’s Katy Bar the Door! He’s taking it home.

I understand that Georgia has many tricks in store for the Crimson Tide in Athens. Fancy color schemes and other such distractions. Interesting…

If I’m not mistaken, the field at Sanford Stadium is green and measures 100 yards long just like the practice field in Tuscaloosa. I am confident that Bama can play football on this field.

I look for this to be a very good game between two of the best college football teams in the nation. If the Dawgs are counting on intimidating the Tide with crowd noise and fancy uniforms, then they are in for a big disappointment.

This Alabama football team has to face Nick Saban and his coaching staff every day of the week. They won’t likely encounter any greater intimidation in Athens.

True Crimson-I agreew ith you. It will be a great match up with some great coaching involved and some great future Sunday players on hand to watch and cheer for. Should be one great game to watch.

The uniforms were for a mental edge last year against Auburn. That much is true.

But the black jerseys this year are not a trick or mind game. They announced they would be wearing them this year. Last year it was a surprise to the players and the fans. This year it was per request of the senior players for this game.

The black out is more for the atmosphere and the over all game itself. It should make the expierence that much better and alot mroe fun for those involved. I mean look at how much pre game pub it has gotten from not just the fans…but in the practice fields at Bama, to the interviews with head coaches befroe the games.

Just my opinion but it adds to the greatness that this game will already be. Sanford should be a great expierence for everyone invovled players and fans with this type or game…and pre game hype that has preceeded the game.

I could be wrong- but that is how this DAWG fam sees the black out. No surpirses. No mental Edge. Jsut fun for the kids and fans to enjoy soemthing that has only taken place once before.

Good Luck to your team Crimson. Alabama has a very good team as UGA deos as well. It should be a great game to watch and an even better one to attend.

may the best team Win!

As a UGA fan I hate to give good advice to UT fans, but if Phil is fired; go after Bronco Mendenhall with every thing you have. He has not UT or SEC connections as far as I know (I could be wrong) but he is a tough, disciplined coach and expects the same from his players. And to the suprise of many he does believe in running the football.

The black jerseys have nothing to do with Alabama and everything to do with Georgia. Please get over yourselves Bama fans.

And the crowd noise will not be meant to intimidate Bama. Its purpose will be to disrupt a very young and inexperienced team, which is exactly what Bama has. No need to get defensive Bama fans. The game will still be played. Your team will have a chance to prove itself. Just relax and enjoy.

And please once and for all spare us all of the tough talk, chest thumping, and hyperbole about how awesome, righteous, and holy Alabama football is. We understand that you have a good team. I promise you that nobody denies that. You are embarassing yourselves with all of this insecurity. Us Georgia fans, having a team that has been one of the nation’s best for the past several years, have heard all of this before. You sound like Boise State fans, Oklahoma State fans, or Hawaii fans. Is this what Bama fans aspire to be? Surely not. You sound like a fan base absolutely desperate for respect and recognition. It is pathetic.

Please Bama fans take all of this to heart for your own good. I’m here to help.

True freshman Ben Jones vs. Mount Cody? forget about it. This is no contest. I saw Cody tossing Arky’s All American outland trophy winning center 3 yards into the backfield on the first series. They had to double him the rest of the game. Same thing happened to Clemson’s senior center. UGA will have to double him the whole game. End of story, this is not up for debate! If Dawg fans think Jones has a semblance of a chance then please put away whatever you are smoking. And for the handful of Dawg fans that think you can blow out Bama you not only need to put away what you are smoking but you need to check into rehab. You can certainly win this game! But blowing us out? Get real!

Aside from that matchup it should be a very competitive game that goes to the wire just like last year. Stafford has to win this one though since Knowshon aint got know chance of running on the interior of the Bama D. He might get some success on the outside though.

We are extremely physical on both sides of the ball and our ground game has steamrolled everyone. We’re 11th in the league in passing although JP Wilson holds almost all of our alltime passing records. We just haven’t needed to pass against anyone.

But I got a feeling it will be a helluva lot tougher running against a superfast UGA D. If UGA’s D can’t slow down our running game it will be a really long night for UGA. But I think they have some success and force JP to the air for the first time this season at least some of the time. Should be a great game. The whole game will hinge on how well each team can run the ball and stop the run.

As for UT I think Fulmer survives this season no matter what but next year they better have 9-10 wins or more. I agree with the poster who thinks they will beat at least one of the three between Aub., Bama, and UGA. He always seems to come up with something when his back is against the wall.

I am mystified by the several dawg posters who say UGA has always owned Fulmer. What u say? He is 11-5 against the dawgs including 9 in a row at one point and although Richt has done well against him he absolutely blasted UGA the last 2 years. As for all the other games who really cares?

Reservoir dawg,

I noticed that we own the series 35-25 with 4 or 5 ties but like you I noticed that UGA was 5-0 against Bama when both times were ranked. That is interesting but I’m hoping that all streaks have an end somewhere. Good luck. It should end up being one of the games of the year in the SEC.

sav’h dawg,

UGA won’t be running a no huddle. Its just not part of what they do. As for Cody forget about him. The reason he is such a fast growing legend is because he is shockingly agile and has a lot of stamina for a man his size. Plus he rotates in their with another 303 pound nose tackle Josh Chapman who is the strongest player on Bama’s team. Jones won’t have much of a breather when Chapman comes in. Just forget about the center/noseguard matchup. Its a matchup you simply cannot win. But UGAs got a better qb, a better starting rb in Moreno, a superfast D, a great linebacker in Curran, etc. You’ve got plenty of other matchups to get an edge on and win the game.

We are looking at a score around DAWGS 38- Alabama 13. I think Tenn. should bring in Chan Gailey as Head Coach, maybe Reggie Ball as QB coach…yeah that works. Seriously, who do the Vols think they would get that would be better? The last time I checked, all the other Coaches w/ a national title were employed and not going anywhere. Change just for the sake of frustration seldom works out- just ask Miss. about firing Cutcliff for Orgeron,or Ark about running Nutt off and ending up w/ the coaching equivalent of a cat litter box. Whatever you think about Fulmer, he is the second most successful coach in Tenn. history, and the other fellow has his name on the stadium. And I don’t even like Fulmer. But if Tenn. cans him, they are probably headed for parity w/ Miss, Ark, and SC, not Fl, Ga, and LSU.

Basically, we’re the best team. Like I said we’ll win every game by two TDs this year. Against Bamer, 3. Have you seen us play? We’re a team, with back ups that could start at most other SEC schools.

To hell with Cody. I still don’t completely rule out Brannan Southerland making it back for the game as FB since he will be in for punt protection…and that dude is freaking strong. He does MILITARY presses with MORE weight than Cody’s 380lbs.

Bama caught Clemson by surprise…but the Dawgs will be well-prepared. One big nose tackle isn’t going to stop the Dawgs.

By Mike

Why would Tennessee need to bring in a coach with a NC ring? UGA, FL,and LSU all hired either assistants or head coaches from other conferences. Has Fulmer done a lot for Tennessee…yes. Brought 1 NC ring and 2 SEC titles. But all good things must come to an end and it is obvious the SEC has passed him with younger, more innovative coaches and assistants. Would not surprise me if he stepped down at the end of the year and they went outside the family for a coach. Perhaps a up and coming assistant or a head coach from a different conference? Worked for other teams in the SEC.

If you already weigh around 300+ pounds, what difference does another 70 pounds make? Probably not as much as some think. I think the rules of physics would support this theory, but I have absolutely nothing to back that up. At any rate, I have no doubt that Cody is a good player, but I doubt it is because he is physically overwhelming men who are pretty physically overwhelming in their own right. No, its probably because he is well coached, has good instincts, and is very athletic. Just a thought for everyone to put in their pipe and smoke.

It will be a great game Sam. LSU, Auburn and Florida have been setting the pace in the SEC recently. Tennessee’s fortunes have been waning in the past few years. Everything changes over time.

I could be wrong. The season is young. But it appears that Georgia and Alabama are shaping up to be the class of the SEC this year. This could well be the most important game in the Conference when all is said and done.

I know that LSU fans want a lot of credit for their win over Auburn last week. But, aside from each other, neither of them has played a significant game yet this season. Florida hasn’t really been challenged yet either.

We’ll know more in a few weeks, but this is definitely the game to watch this week. It’s an SEC classic in the making.

  1. UGA’s o-line will have some problems with Alabama’s d-line, which is why Matt Stafford and the WR’s MUST have a good game. NO DROPS and NO INTS or it’s gonna be a LONG NIGHT!

  2. I think the AU vs. UT game will be closer than people think. And I would pick the Vols in an upset, but Crompton is awful. No arm, no vision, he just can’t cut it at the Div. I level. At least Ainge could spread the field . NOBODY repects Tennessee’s passing attack.

  3. I think the Gators will beat Ole Miss pretty good especially since the only beat them 30-24 last year. Ole Miss plays the Gators tough like the Gamecocks play the Dawgs tough. We shall see…

  4. Garcia without question has the best arm, but he’s an idiot. He has zero command of the offense and you have to be smart to run Spurrier’s passing attack. Spurrier would jerk him out of the UGA game b/c he would try and ab lib ou there and he would overthrow receivers. Talent without disicpline doesn’t get you very far in football or life.

5.Colorado will play FSU tough, and the Seminole offense is terrible. But the ‘Nole have a good defense which will keep them in it. It will be close though.

As a ‘Dawg (and UGA grad) living in Alabama (but not forever), I’ve learned to ignore the rednecks over here who claim to be ‘BAMA fans. Most of them have Dale Earnhardt stickers on the back window of their jacked-up, mud-laden, pickup truck and have never been to Tuscalooser in their lives, much less attended (or perish the thought, graduated from) the Univeristy of Alabama (but they go to Talladega twice a year). They think “The Bear” is reincarnated in Nick Saban, and then lose to LaMonroe (how much fun was that?!). And have lost to Auburn six years in a row. Listening to these idiots reminds me of Obama — they’re all empty suits (with a houndstooth hat). Come Sunday you’ll hear every excuse in the book from this team named after a laundry detergent — they’ve had plenty of practice the last ten years or so. ‘Dawgs will make it four wins in a row over these has-beens.
