The Fearless Friday Forecast
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Your Fearless Forecaster went 8-2 in the first week because he didn’t have the guts to pick Alabama, despite hearing reports that the Crimson Tide was beginning to figure things out. But who knew that Clemson would get smacked in the mouth and not fight back? Who knew that there was not a soul on the entire Clemson roster who could block Terrence “Mount” Cody, Alabama’s massive nose tackle?
Who knew that Tennessee would fly all the way out to the West Coast and get outplayed and out-coached so badly?
It’s kind of a thin week but there are a few tasty morsels worth your consideration this morning. So let’s get on with another award-winning edition of The Fearless Friday Forecast.
1. Central Michigan (1-0) at Georgia (1-0): Georgia will win the game but the Bulldogs have to decide if they want an easy afternoon or if they will have to work for four quarters to put the Chippewas away. CMU’s Dan LeFevour is one of the best quarterbacks who will play in Sanford Stadium this season. But a fast, aggressive defense can keep LeFevour under control as Clemson proved last season when the Tigers mashed Central Michigan 70-14. Despite the loss of DT Jeff Owens, Georgia still has a very fast and very aggressive defense. Georgia needs to put this team away early and start getting ready for next week’s trip to South Carolina. And here is my first early warning to my Georgia friends. If you’re feeling more confident about the Gamecocks because they lost to Vanderbilt last night, don’t. We’ll have more on that next week. Georgia 45, Central Michigan 17.
2. Georgia Tech (1-0) at Boston College (1-0): Georgia Tech plays its first road game under coach Paul Johnson and quarterback Josh Nesbitt gets his first start in a hostile stadium. I think the Boston College defense is a little too strong. The Eagles return eight starters from a defense that was second in the nation against the run last season, giving up 72.2 yards per game. BC’s Frank Spaziani is one of the better defensive coordinators in the country and will have a plan to make Nesbitt uncomfortable. But if Georgia Tech does not turn the ball over, it will be a four-quarter game and the Jackets will get a chance to steal it at the end. Boston College 21, Georgia Tech 17.
3. Miami (1-0) at Florida (1-0): This used to be one of the best rivalries in the South. Now the programs are in two decidedly different places. Florida gets WR Percy Harvin back this week giving the Gators yet another player who can take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Miami crushed Charleston Southern 52-7 in the opener and its players believe they are due for a breakout game under coach Randy Shannon. The Hurricanes are certainly due after bottoming at 5-7 last season. But it’s not happening on Saturday night at The Swamp. Miami will come out on fire and very motivated to play. Then the talent takes over. Florida 35, Miami 14.
4. Wake Forest (1-0) at Ole Miss (1-0): For my money this is the best game on the board on Saturday. Ole Miss got off to a pretty impressive start with a 41-24 win over Memphis. Wake Forest went on the road and beat Baylor 41-13 and looks like a team capable of winning the ACC. Quarterback Riley Skinner, who completed 72.4 percent of his passes last season, completed 27 of 36 passes with no interceptions against the Bears. When Skinner does not throw interceptions, Wake Forest is hard to beat. Ole Miss is very athletic and has a new burst of energy under coach Houston Nutt. This could be a good one. Wake Forest 24, Ole Miss 20.
5. Southern Miss (1-0) at Auburn (1-0): Auburn won its opener 34-0 over Louisiana-Monroe but coach Tommy Tuberville believes he needs better play from his quarterbacks. Kodi Burns got the start last week but will give way to JUCO transfer Chris Todd. Southern Miss, under new coach Larry Fedora, has installed the spread offense and will try to control the ball and shorten the game. The Eagles have a running back who can do that in sophomore Damion Fletcher, who had 222 yards rushing in last week’s 51-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Auburn wins this one because of defense. Auburn 28, Southern Miss 10.
6. Tulane (0-0) at Alabama (1-0): After last week’s 34-10 win over Clemson, Alabama fans are excited again and convinced the Crimson Tide will be a force in the SEC West. Coach Nick Saban is preaching that it is only one game of 12 and that everybody, fans and players included, needs to calm down. Good luck with that, coach. With games against Tulane today and Western Kentucky next week, Alabama has two weeks to get ready for its first SEC match-up at Arkansas on Sept. 20. Saban will ride his team pretty hard so that they don’t look sloppy against the overmatched Green Wave. Alabama 42, Tulane 10.
7. The Citadel (1-0) at Clemson (1-0): It’s been a long week at Clemson. Good thing for the Tigers and Tommy Bowden that they have four straight very winnable games at home (The Citadel, N.C. State, South Carolina State, Maryland). There is no way that Clemson is as bad as Alabama made the Tigers look last Saturday night at the Georgia Dome. There is just too much talent there. Clemson can come back and win the ACC championship. That journey begins today as the Tigers take their frustrations out on the Bulldogs. Clemson 48, The Citadel 7.
8. Western Carolina (1-0) at Florida State (0-0): The decision to start red-shirt sophomore Christian Ponder at quarterback over senior Drew Weatherford speaks volumes about where the Florida State program is headed. It shows that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, the head coach in waiting behind Bobby Bowden, is exerting his influence in Tallahassee. Weatherford has started 33 games and would have been the safe choice. After two straight 7-6 seasons, it’s time for Florida State to quit making the safe choice. This game, and next week’s game against Chattanooga, is about getting ready for Wake Forest’s visit on Sept. 20. Florida State 45, Western Carolina 10.
9. Stanford (1-0) at Arizona State (1-0): We’re going to follow Arizona State as they run up to the Sept. 20 game with Georgia. The Sun Devils rolled over Northern Arizona 30-13 last week as Rudy Carpenter threw for 388 yards. Stanford, which opened last week with a 36-28 Pac-10 win over Oregon State, has one of the league’s better running backs in Toby Gerhart, who ran for a career-high 147 yards against the Beavers. The Sun Devils have too much firepower. Arizona State 35, Stanford 21.
10. West Virginia (1-0) at East Carolina (1-0): East Carolina is coming off one of its biggest wins in years in last week’s 27-22 victory over Virginia Tech. If the Pirates can knock off West Virginia then the team of Skip Holtz will thrust itself into the picture for a BCS at-large bid. West Virginia was impressive last week when Pat White threw for five touchdowns in a 48-21 win over Villanova. This game has a chance to be close but in the end the difference will be White. Now let’s just hope that Hurricane Hanna cooperates and allows the game to be played in Greenville, N.C., which is located in the eastern part of the state. West Virginia 31, East Carolina 24.

Tony, Shouldn’t uga be moved down to #2 in your picks to reflect their slipping in the polls for playing a creampuff and giving up 21?
Auburn will start the onslaught this weekend as the new “O” starts to kick in.
The dawgs were KO’ed in the polls, wait till they actually play some real football teams like Auburn and Florida, they should beat everyone else with ease.

Oh my god, you make more damn excuses for Georgia than I can possibly believe. Now that Carolina was exposed as a fraud against Vandy, YOUR gonna start proclaiming this a tougher game now.
Get your red and black head out of your butt, the #2 ranked team should never have a problem with a team that just lost to Vandy. You think writers for USC, OSU or UF would be saying that will be a tough game? Hell no! thay know they should win, or maybe you are finally realizing the dawgs AINT all that and continue to pile up little excuses for the downfall!
Good grief!!! How pathetic!!!

What a geezer…….I think our offense is a tad better than Vandy, and I know our Defense is better. Fish or cut bait next week for Dawgs. Looking for the Cocks to lay another egg, no pun intended !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NC State must really suck. If the Dawgs give up 17 at home to a 2-time defending D-I conference champion with a legit Heisman candidate, while scoring only 45, won’t we drop like a rock in the polls? I mean, USC is off this week and OSU plays Ohio. Man, oh man: we will be lucky to stay in the top 10. And, Auburn Man, every week in the SEC can be tough, but you should know that.

Dont worry my little minion pups, if things look tough I will call for a black out, or maybe send the whole team to rush the field in a very unsportsmanlike way again. I’m trying to come up with some new nifty little gimmicks to use this year so everyone will know we are serious about our football in athens.
Anyone have anything I can use?
Maybe we can have the students rush the field after every score, or bring back herschel to do back flips across the field at the half. What about having Dooley do the electric slide after a field goal. Maybe Damoan Evans can come out and announce our future ooc schedules of Kennesaw state and perimeter college. We mean business here in athens.

Folks, ignore Roswell Ed. He’s always here. And he’s always saying the same thing. He has a genuine hate for UGA. It’s fine, that’s his choice. No need to get baited into vitriole with him. He will clammer all season long about how Auburn is the best school around, and how they will beat this team and that team and will wind up in the National Championship game. And when something goes wrong and they lose to someone they should not lost to, he will have an excuse list a mile long.
He is what he is. Let’s just move on and celebrate our team. Let Edward scream on the sidelines. It all sort of reminds me of a 5 year old pitching a fit because his mommy wouldn’t let him wear his He-Man underoos.

I am not an SC Hater and have praised the SC Players and Fans on this site. But let’s give a Big SEC Congratulations to Vandy.
I watched every minute of the game and saw plays where the SC Defense absolutely dominated the line and other plays where Vandy scooted right through that same line. I saw a Vandy Defense ahead of a ranked team in the 4th quarter and about to blow it (again) - but they sucked it up and played great ball.
SC hurt themselves with penalties but in the end Vandy did what they had to do to win it.

Well it looked like typical Carolina football last night and very untypical Vandy football. When the cocks cut it to 7 and then stoned vandy on the next possession, it looked like vandy was going to find a way to lose the game. Congrats to Vandy for holding on and earning a damn good win!
Did anyone notice how the blathering old fool “Dr. Holtz” made multiple references to the Georgia-Carolina game. The senile old goat can’t wait to pick the chickens to pull the upset next week. He calls that game correctly every six years or so. What a bafoon.

AUEagle yeah your so correct my friend! 10 win seasons, 2 SEC Championships 3/4 in BCS Bowl appearances, consistent top 10 finishes including #2 in last years final rankings and starting this year #1 (and only #2 currently) are all irrelevant! God, the Dawgs suck! Wanna talk about irrelevant? Lets talk about Auburn having a perfect season and still being shut out of the National Championship… seems the pollsters that year didn’t find you relevant enough to play in that game! And yes, you can cite us getting jumped last year, but I still feel that you have to win your conference first to win a national championship!

Second, I am NOT a GATECH fan, never have been so don’t know what your lame excuse example of my “lack” of Southern Cal knowledge is? You are the one who is lacking in the knowledge, each of the last few seasons as bowl selection time rolled around Coach Carroll has been VERY public in his assertions that SC would play any one any place any time! See ESPN, ABC tape for the proof unlike the LACK of said by SEC coaches. I have yet to hear one SEC coach publicly ask to play Southern Cal, yet you slapnuts keep runnin’ your sucks about how bada$$ y’all are. Pete has on numerous times publicly stated he would take SC to any teams crib to put the beat down on them all they have to do is step up to the phone and place the call. Hell he’ll even accept a collect call from your cheap a*******es if that’s what it takes to get a game on! As for you (scrules!!!!!) it’s more than likely you are one of them chicken feather fans who can’t even man up and admitt that they are your team! 99Dawg - Agree, Holtz has really turned into a senile old fool. That lame ‘Dr. Lou’ thing they did yesterday, or whenever, was just that - Lame. He’s had a hard-on for Georgia ever since he couldn’t beat us at SC and keeps claiming that he knows something that the rest of us don’t. Sure Georgia has had it’s ups and downs against the Cocks - USC was the only blemish on the ‘59 Orange Bowl Champs and probably kept us from being the overall #1, and there have been other bumps along the road in Columbia - and he’ll surely pick Carolina again this time. Their loss to Vandy last night is something of a bad omen - that damn Superior will have ‘em stoked sky-high. Just hope our defense will be physically up to the job and not run out of gas. We can’t let Holtz and Spurier strut around for another year.

The ONLY reason any one goes to school at Auburn is because they COULD NOT get accepted to UGA!
It is plain and simple! I understand all of the jealousy though. I mean you are second fiddle in your own state to a team you have beat 6 straight times! It is okay, at least you were able to take care of Louisiana Monroe.

Don’t worry Spike, I have a feeling the rubber chickens will be on here in full force once they regain consciousness. They’re gluttons for punishment. Vandy dines on chicken two years in a row!! Yum Yum eat ‘em up. Leave us some. If Vandy can score 24 on the “greatest defense” in the SEC then our conference is surely overrated. Granny Holtz is a joke. He’s still sore because we beat his beloved Notre Dame for the NC. And speaking of love for ol’ Notre Dame, if they should start the season with 3 or 4 wins you’ll surely see them shoot up into the Top 10 sooner rather than later. Teacher’s pet, just like USC and OSU.
Carolina may have a decent defense but if their offense plays next week the way they did last night our DBs will be exhausted running back interceptions. Darth Visor better bring along a couple of extra hats.
GATORZONE the problem with this country is that weak minds are more impressed with flash than substance.
Insects find a way to lose a close one on the road. DAWGS roll at home!

You said it Spike. I want to hear from Gamecock Henry. He sure can talk it up until the inevitable happens which is another Gamecock loss. I’m still amazed at how delusional Gamecock fans are in that they honestly believe that this is going to be “their year” and it always ends up with the same outcome - another sucky season. Gamecock fans talk the most smack for the fewest results than any other team in the country. I guess that makes them #1 in something - talking sh!t.

At the national level, most people do not expect to hear intelligent ideas spoken with a Southern drawl. This entire discussion (if it can be dignified as such) does very little to dispel that expectation. Really, how embarassing! We can only take comfort in the fact that only a tiny handful of people read it.

It’s all good Spike, I know why UGA fans hate Spurrier… I don’t even get in that conversation, that’s between UGA & him. I just wish we wouldn’t have lost to Vandy. 8-4 is going to be a stretch with UGA, LSU, Tenn, UF, & Clemson (as bad as Bama beat em, they’ll still give us all we want). Maybe there’s something deep in that bag of tricks…

I don’t like that South Carolina’s backs are now against the wall. They are behind the SEC East 8-ball and can’t afford another loss. Another loss to the Dawgs next week and you can kiss the SEC championship goodbye. It’s as simple as that. 2 losses in the conference already and you are in major trouble. If the Dawgs win I don’t see South Carolina running the table with Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and LSU. Watching a very average offense last night in Vanderbilt have their way with South Carolina at times has to worry Gamecock fans a great deal. Nickson is a decent QB but he does make alot of bad decisions. I can’t believe Brinkley dropped that pick last night. What was that? He might still be running. Also how #31 for Vandy ran over people and scored the winning TD. Knowshon and Caleb King are a different level than that guy. If we get any pass protection it could be a long afternoon for the Gamecock D. Also how about the Billinger kid from Parkview that I believe was headed to Athens and changed his mind. He was pretty studly last nigh. I’m not saying give the Dawgs the win just I think that Steve Spurrier needs to be very concerned. GO DAWGS!!

Mark May said that UGA will fall out of the top 5 even if they win Saturday but give up 3 TD’s to CM. Reason is UF will blow out Miami, THE Ohio State will almost hit the century mark against the sisters of the poor, and Oklahoma will do the same to Cincy, thus leapfrogging the dawgs.

Well, looks like the ‘Cocks are still bent over by Vandy’s Johnson. They must have enjoyed it because a few of them are still talking smack. If you would stop enjoying it long enough to write a congratulations to Vandy for a good and hard fought game I’m sure your aching butt would feel much better. As for the Dawgs, I have long encouraged respect for both coaches and their school’s teams. So let’s lower the attempts to disrespect each other’s institutions on here and be glad we have the best competitive college football in the country.
I drew attention to AP writer Jim Litke’s article about the SEC the other day and would encourage you to look at Dennis Dodd’s article yesterday on CBS Sports. I nearly fell over because he wrote strongly about the SEC being so great. Every year before it was the Dodd-damned SEC. I quit reading him for some time because the Dawgs had been Dodd-damned so many times that I thought we were beyond redemption. However, he is seeking redemption now with this article. One of the early comments was really humorous by wanting to know what they had done with the real Dennis Dodd.
I got my wish on Vandy because of some redheaded C**’s blogs on here and most importantly, Johnson has vindicated himself for ill-guided remarks made several weeks ago in ESPN’s articles. It seemed as if the entire SEC jumped on the writer’s back and let everyone know what a fine coach and person he is. Great. He and Spurrier both get the most out of their players and both should be recognized by true college football fans for doing so.
Tony- Wasn’t that score 8-3 last week? I and a few thousand more beat you and you had something about a recognition prize for anyone who could beat you? Don’t tell me the reward was the list of names you published! I was ready to select a blackout jersey for my grandson as the reward. Do you want me to tell him that you renigged? He already has a two-foot Hairy that shouts UGA cheers. Could you at least send me a two-foot tall signed photo that I can use to teach him about people and broken promises in life? Just kidding. But I’ll bet upper management at ajc had a hissie and you have checked your retirement account to see if you can purchase your good name back. Just kidding. I did notice you didn’t have the same offer this week when you made your pics. Not kidding.
I differ on Ole Miss, but wouldn’t bet the farm on it like you did last week. Also, Paul Johnson has made an impression on me. We agree on BC playing smash-mouth football, but Johnson has these kids believing in themselves and that’s hard to beat. He is also shy-sneaky humble. I’ll bet he has a good game plan and would be my upset pick of the week.

GamecockSEChamps, we do agree on something. Bad eggs in every bunch of fans. I subscribe to the be humble in both victory and defeat school. Talk smack w/o getting personal, cruel or mean about and apologize if you do slip over that edge. We can all be proud of our schools and team w/o having to put the other guy down. Okay put em down during the smack talk somewhat or otherwise it wouldn’t be smack talk.

BC was great against the run out of the standard formation. They have not seen Paul Johnson’s “Who’s got the ball? Who’s got it now?” option attack. Plus Tech’s defense is going to hassle the new BC QB into a a couple of mistakes that will give PJ his first road win to keep GT undefeated.

I am not quite sure what ESPN is going to do next weekend when USC and OSU get together. I guess no matter who wins ESPN will still say that they are #1 and #2. If only Tim Tebow could play all time quarterback I think the entire Gameday crew would go naked they would be so happy. As far as Lou Holtz saying that SC has the best defense in the SEC, you can’t really listen to what he says and take it to heart anymore. He is 112 years old and doesn’t know if it is night or day anymore. He is confused and has the beginning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Mark May is the biggest cry baby loser and will make sure that he has atleast 5 Tim Tebow comments per segment all weekend long. If you want to watch a true sports show go watch CSS with Stinchcomb. Watching ESPN is like watching CNN these days. “All Tebow, All the Time” is there new slogan.

It’s not really a surprise that USC jumped up, they only needed 3-5 votes. And it had very little to do with the final scores. But thinking that 20 voters are going to pull thier votes From UGA and put them on Oklahoma based on scoring differences in OOC wins, just totally reversing thier opinion last week, and the entire preseason, is pretty silly.

What’s up with all the ridicule of S. Carolina just for losing to Vandy? My oh my do you guys have some short memories.
Vandy punked the dawgs 2 years ago on Homecoming day and would have won last year had they not fumbled the game away at your 5 or 10 yard line with a few minutes left in the game. That fumble is the only thing keeping the dores from having a 2 game winning streak against the dawgs so shut the hell up!
The truth is that just about anybody can beat anybody in the sec. Even Vandy can beat people and we all have to admit that Vandy usually plays most teams pretty tight.
And if Dawg players and fans didn’t respect Vandy then why were their players stomping on the Vandy logo last year after their narrow, comeback win against the Dores? Who in the hell has such a small mentality that they stomp on the logo of Vandy of all people after winning by the narrowest of margins. Georgia. That’s who!
You won’t see anyone else in the sec stomping on the logo of Vandy if they beat Vandy. You guys are so small time its pathetic! And ya don’t even know it!

I tune in just to see what Rosell Ed is gonna say. This guy always cracks me up. I can’t understand why UGA fans hate him. He is hilarious! In his post this morning he managed to not only insult UGA as he always does but he even gets in an insult by almost everyone else by saying that UGA will beat everyone else “with ease” as if Auburn is the only real good team in the conference.
I wouldn’t get down on the Gamecocks too much after losing to Vandy. Vandy beat UGA 2 years ago and should won last year against the dawgs. And even though Vandy beat South Carolina last year South Carolina still managed to beat UGA in Athens. Don’t know what it is about Spurrier but he always has something up his sleeve for the dawgs.

Lou Holtz last night: ” South Carolina has the best defense in the SEC and Georgia will find out next week”
What a pathetic loser and job jumper. He should sell used cars.
Spurrier did’t even get upset last night and throw his visor like he did at Florida. He realizes South Carolina will never be a winner and I think he will be gone soon.
He is waiting for a couple of more 4 loss seasons at Florida and for the alumni to run Urban Crier off. Then Steve will go back where he can win.
It was the Run & Fun at Florida.
It is the Chicker Coop & Poop at South Carolina.
I hope the Dogs are ready for that Central Michigan QB. I saw Southern Mississippi come into Sanford Stadium with an excellent QB several years ago.
It was Brett Farve and the Dogs were fortunate to post a win at the end of the game.
I also saw Pittsburgh come into Sanford Stadium with a freshman running back and the Dogs had to fight for a 7-7 tie. The freshman was Tony Dorsett.
Take care of business, Dogs.

Hey Pitbull, I’m pretty sure Southern Miss came and played Uga since the Brett Farve era. It was either during Mark Richts 1st season or a couple seasons before that under Donnan or maybe even Goff. In any event Southern Miss won at Sanford stadium. UGA said no sir, I don’t want no more of that and hasn’t played them since. UGA went back to playing cream puffs as usual but at least this year they play a real home and home with a real bcs conference team like AZ state. I don’t think in the history of UGA football that they have every played a home and home outside of the immediate southeastern us. Its what’s kept UGA a decent regional program but not a nationally recognized elite program.

hahaha. I just laugh at the SEC idiots. Now you are saying how this is proof that “anyone can beat anyone in the SEC”. Yeah, because you are all overrated, and the SEC isn’t as high and mighty as you all wish.
And then these uga idiots who act like they never lost to Vandy, and Kentucky in the same year. And that Vandy had them beat last year, but gave them the game (as has been noted many times on here).
Come to think of it, thats probably where CMR got his “christian” idea for a celebration against UF. He saw all of the thUGA players stomping on the vandy logo, and he thought some more dancing and unsportsman like conduct was just what those thugs needed.
He better have 6-7 different gimmicks to get those low class thugs motivated for games this year, b/c lord knows that they can’t motivate themselves.
I just had a great idea!! What if CMR let them on these blogs, and let them see all of you morons sign “PROVE IT” or “EARN IT” or all of the other stupid crap you idiots sign your posts with? That would surely motivate them!

Hey Mark May, no offense but you are wrong. It was either 1990 when we beat Southern Mississippi 18-17 or 1993 when we beat them 54-24. I think it was 1990 though as it was VERY close.
Think about it. Bret Farve has been in the NFL for about 18 years now.
You are right though. Southern Mississippi defeated us 11-7 in 1996. Bret Farve was in the NFL by then.

When UGA won the SEC several years ago, a pundit at ESPN picked The Dawgs early in the season. I don’t remember who it was,but I do remember that he said a coach in the SEC had picked us also and he would share that name with us at the end of the season sense it wouldn’t be cool at that time. He was a man of his word - the only other person that picked us was Lou Holtz, then the coach of So. Car..

I came to this blog today just to see what the South Carolina posters would be saying. Even though Henry did mea culpa a little bit, he’s still talking smack! You lost to Vandy and you’re talking tough. Have a little shame would you. I can see the Florida fans giving the Georgia crowd a little crap, they’ve earned it, but SC is a perenial middle of the pack team. Please win something, anything, before you run anymore BS up here.

You want to make some money? just bet the opposite of who Lou Holtz picks and you will be a rich man. Love his pep talks though.
Gotta be proud of Vandy for finally winning against a highly ranked opponet after so many years, no matter who you pull for in the SEC.
Man, the poor folks in the entire state of South Carolina must really be depressed today with both of their teams sucking so bad this week.

I just hope this isn’t a rainout. It’s my first UGA game in my 48 years of life & I’m hiped. If Coach Richt looses many more on the defensive line, I’ll suit up. 6’1” & 310 lbs of pure bred Bulldawg. I’ll get there for the sack if he needs me. I have some eligibility left for sure.

Bama12titles…
Thanks, for again, repeating what has been posted several times before you. You continue to be the master of the obvious. UGA fans are painfully aware that Vandy won in 06 and almost in 07 and, yes, the logo was stomped. To save you the time…Kentucky also beat UGA in ‘06.
BTW…when was the last time bama beat the Dawgs?
mark may:
UGA was beat by SM in the 1996 home opener. Donnan was the coach in his first year. Cream puffs? The UGA schedule is consistently one of the toughest in the nation. When you play in the SEC, there is no need to go all over the country. However, since Richt has been at UGA, other than tech UGA has played clemson, okl state, colorado and boise st (they were supposed to be great that year) and ask oklahoma about boise.

1-UGA should handel CMU pretty well. They beat some of the best sread teams in the US last year, Troy, UF, UK, and UH. The last three all had QBs with a lot of pre-season Heisman hype. Remember that this coaching staff was taken to “spread school” by Pat White and Dick Rod. CMU will score some late because Richt is going to play the back-ups. richt is planning to use His depth and wants these guys schooled. 2- Tech needs to win this one and can, BC lost too many of Their best players. 3- Miami will be good again, if They are patient, but can’t beat the Gators yet. 4- Nutt vs Grobe? i’ll take Grobe. IMO, one of the best coaches in the South. 5- AU should win easy if They want the SEC west. 6- Bama, easy! 7- Come on, Clemson, easy! 8- FSU, easy again.9- Stanford = Syracuse West, ASU easy. 10- Pat White, in any weather. IMO He is the best spread QB in the country. He is like Tebow with 4.3 speed. If White stays healthy WVU is My sleeper pick for the BCSMCG.

I think that this year’s record should only be relevant, why bring up a win or loss from years passed. UGA is a dominating team and should win all of their games this season, as long as they play hard every game. They should not be complacent against any team this season, CMU included, because there is always room for an upset. Just ask USC (Cali). I think it is a blessing that UGA was moved to #2 because that means the team should play harder to eventually move back up to #1. I think there are a lot of upsets in store this season; I just hope it is not against the Dawgs. I believe that USC and Florida will be upset again this season. No offense to their fans but it is just a gut feeling. GO DAWGS!

My remark was just a parody off of the Old Bawl Sacks remarks from last year. Lighten up. The difference in Vandy/Ga game last year and the Vandy/SC game this year is that Ga won, SC didn’t. Yes Vandy can sneak up and bite anyone in the azz when they least likely expect it. Such as you and Gamecock nation thought last night there was no way you would lose that game. You are right. Vandy is competitive. Enjoy the cellar

I was encouraged by the level of competition that Vanderbilt displayed in last nights game against South Carolina. Moreover, the Dawgs should be wary of the Gamecocks next weekend if they think that by showing up will guarantee a Bulldog victory. I’m also encouraged that Coach Fulmer will absolutely have the Volunteers attention when it concerns SEC competition. I didn’t think Georgia’s defense was all impressive against a team that clearly was undermanned …or where they really undermanned? It could be likely that UGA is not as good as they are portrayed to be. I’m Confident that the Volunteers will make it 3 in a row and 2 in a row in Athens. Go Rocky Top! Only a Gamecock would call himself “Eddis”. Rest assured that the UGA defense is just what it is billed as. They are solid and deep in all aspects. When coach Spurrier gets the game film from central Michigan he’s going to have to send out for clean laundry cause he will crap his britches. We heard the same hype last year about the Hawaii QB. I think he’s back home selling “Colt-burgers” and Denny’s. I get so tired of hearing about South Carolina. Yes, you have had a few good teams. You have NEVER had a great team, not once, not even with George Rogers. After Spurrier leaves (out of frustration that he couldn’t rub the Florida AD’s nose in the choice of Urban Meyer over the glorius return of the great one) SC will hire another savior, then another and another and another. Your team will always be good, but never great. Just face it and life will be so much easier.

First, the Dawgs need to focus on one game at a time. We should win this week. If so, I’d like to know, from any of the obviously disgruntled little c** fans, exactly HOW they could beat the Dawgs - barring a major melt down. Do you actually believe that mighty Vandy has a stronger defense, a Moreno equivalent, etc. what? Just name one thing that’s better. Prediction, the evil one leaves after this year because he just cannot get the talent in Columbia that he got in Gainesville. I really thought the c** talkers would go away after Vandy thrashed them. I guess all that is left is to keep trashing everybody else….

I’m absolutely a Volunteer. Class of 83 as a matter of fact. I was merely pointing out that UGA will need to be prepared when they compete with South Carolina next week. For some odd reason South Carolina always gives Georgia problems when UGA should dominate but hasn’t been able to do so in recent years gone by. It wouldn’t surprise me if South Carolina wins the football game next week. My beloved Volunteers will be prepared to face Georgia and I expect the team to man handle the Dawgs for the 3rd year in a row . The contest that will take place between the football team called the Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgia Bulldogs will be a most exasperating task. I, for one, believe the Volunteers of Tennessee will be a formidable foe. However; I also believe the Bulldogs of Georgia will be triumphant but the Volunteers will be laudable. If the Chippewas of Central Michigan prove to be a threat, I should hope the staff of coaches would see this and immediatly provide an alternative game plan to the players on the field. I hope neither side of players sustains any injuries……as this would be counter-productive for both teams.
With all of this said…..I wish every team out there a very happy Saturday and may the best…Ma……uh….te…..contestant win!!!! Yahhh….Yahhhhh…GO DAWGS…

SC Rules
Better recheck your facts my friend. Richt petitioned for the Rose Bowl matchup with USC long before the BCS made their announcement.
I’m sure you would agree that a UGA/USC matchup would have been better than what both our teams ended up with. We didn’t want to play Hawaii. We didn’t get the job done last year to win our conference so we didn’t get to play for the SECC.
The BCS selection is a different matter however. It is not completely based on win/loss records - it’s far more subjective and often unfair - ask Auburn Fans.
Few Dawg Fans actually believe we should have played for the NC. We didn’t deserve it. I do believe that UGA/USC in the Rose Bowl would have been possibly the best post season game played.

FLA DAWG;
I completely agree that the matchups we both ended up with were bogus!!!! It would have been a GREAT game probably better than the BCS game! Perhaps that is why we didn’t get the matchup?! The BCS powers didn’t want the shine taken off the game. I think you will agree with me on this: The VERY BEST BCS matchup was USC vs Texas in ‘06. I have yet to hear anyone, even NON SC fans say that there has been a better one yet. Only close one I can think of was the O.T. game OSU vs Miami in the desert. If Coach Richt did ask for the game earlier than I said I stand corrected. The tape of his comments wasn’t shown until after the BCS selection out here. But I do stand by my comment earlier that on several occasions these past few years Coach Carroll has on camera said he will take USC to play any one anywhere. Here’s to both our respective teams facing each other this year in Miami!!!

SC Rules,
Often I get the opportunity to respond with respect to some SEC Fans. It is rare for me to have the opportunity to do the same for non conference fans - seems like there is alot of hatred for the SEC.
But in this case, “Good Luck & See You in Miami” !!

FLA DAWG;
Thanks and same to you! I don’t hate the SEC or its fans, not at all. I have always stated that top to bottom the SEC is the best conference. My only other assertion to SEC fans is that the PAC-10 is a better conference than most SEC fans give it credit for. I am biased in that I think Southern Cal is the best team, but then what fan DOESN’T think their team is #1 but I have before and will again and will continue to until it is shown differently that the SEC is top to bottom the toughest conference. I will also say that I am glad that ‘Bama is fianlly righting the ship. Best of luck as the season progresses and see ya in Miami!!

Just checked the scoreboard and “Shrub” is barely takign care of Ohio U. Actually behind until 4th qtr. I can see why SEC fans are sick of them. With or without bean sprout at TB the shrubs SUCK OUT LOUD!!!!
I would think that todays game with CMU should be a good tune up for later against FLA if the CMU QB is as good as they say. It will give the younger players on D the chance to see that type of O before the big game in J’ville.
‘Bama should be fine tonight, doubt Coach Saban will allow the team to be caught napping unlike in previous seasons when they thought they could just show up and the other team would lay down because it was SEC/’BAMA. I am also sure that the Tide will not suffer the “SI” cover jinx.

VaTech: your are trully “HOKIE”! That lame effort or lack there of against ECU was pathetic! This is not a knock against ECU, I’m happy for the succcess they’ve had lately, but y’all should be ashamed!!!!! Go Pirates!!!!
By the way, what the hell is a “hokie”??? Y’all couldn’t come up with a better mascot??? Before y’all try and come back with the lame “Condoms” crack; NOT what we are, we’re the Trojans as in MIGHTY warriors , i.e. Roman Empire! No Rome isn’t burning or about to fall any time soon, sorry for y’all who keep waiting for that to happen. As long as Coach Carroll can go anywhere in the country and get the very best from that area then we will continue to rule!

Just in as a final the shrubs barely squeak out a win. They should fall out of the top ten for that lame a$$ effort. If you really want to call what they did today an effort. I would easily match up Vandy against the shrubs and would expect Vandy to win at least half of them. (5 out of 10) And that is no crack on Vandy, as Vandy is a fine school. I can’t wait for next Saturday so we can finally put an end to any chance they may have to get anywhere near the NC game! Here’s looking to next weekend when we get to do our part to help the environment when we make up a big batch of mulch!!

SC Rules,
A buddy of mine went to Va Tech. He told me a long time ago that a Hokie is a castrated turkey - no kidding man, a castrated turkey! I guess that speaks for itself.
Ohio State stunk up the field today. Talk about an over-rated team! If The Dawgs dropped 1 place because we only won by 24 points then Ohio State should drop out of the top 5 for their performance today. My guess is they will drop 1 place - maybe.
By the way, if your Trojans don’t beat the Puckeyes by at least 14 then I’m gonna wonder about USC.
GT Fans, Congrats on a fine win. As your coach Johnson said, “Well, it wasn’t pretty but a win is a win.” Rodger That!

FLA DAWG;
Thanks for the Hokie explanation, that is just sad. As for the shrubs they should fall more than 1 place if as you rightly pointed out that UGA fell for winning by only 24. I predict the final score will be USC 56 OSU 3

Now, why do you have to bring politics into this? As an independent, I am sick of people calling my patriotism into question because I don’t vote the way they do. In case you haven’t noticed, Palin is the Anti-Environmentalist and McCain is 72.
I believe Colt landed here in Austin, playing for the local UT. If Texas can upset Oklahoma, the dawgs might face him again.
SC Rules!!! Sorry, but Troy was sacked and burned by the Greeks. Unfortunately, I don’t see any Greek teams on your schedule this year.
GO DAWGS!

Colt can’t beat KSU, how in the hell do you think he’ll lead the ‘Horns past OU?? By the by I hate OU!! SC will be just fine, but nice wishfull thinking on your part.
‘Bama just won, but it was ugly. Still a W is a W!!!

Come January, I would love to see USC (west) and UGA playing for the national championship. Heck, I’d just love to see them play.
And I wasn’t unhappy that the Aggies shut up the Longhorn fans the last two years. I don’t hate Texas, I just don’t want to hear it.

That would be a great matchup no doubt. Hopefully it comes to pass! I have a feeling that Aggie fans will need to pray for some serious improvement if they hope to pull off the triple play this year. Plus the game being moved back to Turkey day that will cause more than a few dinners to be ruined I’M SURE! I have a feeling ‘ole Mack will have the ‘Horns in right nasty mood for that one for sure!

I just saw the new rankings on ESPN.com ans see where the shrubs are in at #5, what a joke! They shouldn’t even be in the top 10! Props to ECU!!!! This begs the question WVU falls from #8 to #25 albeit with a loss but the shrubs have “BARELY” won against two cream puffs AT home and yet they are a top 5 team?!?!? As my Grandaddy would say: “That dog don’t hunt”! Well after we get done mulchin’ ‘em Saturday they’ll be done with!

Mindless people like those on this message board are why I burned the city years ago. Your attitudes and pre-school behavior are why the South has a bad name. Go enjoy your cousins.

SC Rules, I always enjoy your comments, but just a small correction. The Trojans were from Troy, during the Greek, not Roman, power era.
You guys look really tough again. I like your qb. And I agree with those who have said that a USC/UGA game should be a killer. Hopefully, one of these days Tech will be back up there again.

CarolinaJacket,
I stand corrected on my historical error in refernce. I’m sure Coach Johnson will have the Jackets ship righted here real soon. Look at the job he did with Navy, and there he couldn’t really recruit.
Cpl Sherman, You sucked in the War of Northern Aggresion and you still suck today! Stay the hell out of my beloved South!!!!!

Tony—
Is it not about time you got rid of the “I spit my steak across the room” vent that’s been below your picture since Nov.,’07???
The real storuy of that Vandy—UT game was Vandy’s last second field goal that hit the upright and bounced the wrong way.

The Chippewas? Isn’t that a cooking school. I thought I noticed the Centeral Michigan players tripping over their apron strings. UGA, you can’t take care of USC-East. What makes you think that you are going to get a shot at USC-West in the national championship title game.
