Oklahoma had no choice on Jarboe

On Tuesday our Drew Jubera did a marvelous job of reporting and telling the story of Josh Jarboe, the former Oklahoma player from Ellenwood. Jarboe was released from the OU program after a cellphone video that contained a number of violent references and a string of profanities made its way to YouTube.

Drew interviewed a number of people who spoke to the fundamental goodness of the kid. I have no reason to doubt their sincerity. I have not met Josh Jarboe. He may be a wonderful kid. The claim is that he was just doing what kids his age do and became a victim of today’s technology. In short, he engaged in behavior that, in another time, would never have seen the light of day.

But I also know when it comes to something like this the fact that Jarboe may be a good person is pretty irrelevant.

Here are the facts:

Jarboe was expelled from high school for bringing a weapon onto the Cedar Grove campus. When approached by authorities he tried to hide the weapon. He had to take online classes to get his high school diploma.

Oklahoma stuck with Jarboe after this incident. Based on their research he was a good kid who made a bad decision. Teenagers make bad decisions all the time. That was a reasonable position to take.

But when Jarboe’s 74-second video hit cyberspace, the entire dynamic changed. Now Oklahoma had a kid who, after almost losing everything because of the gun charge, makes a video that makes references to AK-47s and shooting people in the head.

Head coach Bob Stoops at first supported Jarboe, feeling that what he did was a private event that never should have gone public. But Stoops must know what his players already know: Everything video, sooner or later, makes it way to the internet.

Here is the harsh reality of this situation. This is really not about Jarboe or some kind of clash of cultures or a generational misunderstanding.

This is about the fact that in April of 2007 a crazed student walked into a Virginia Tech classroom building and murdered 32 people. It’s about the fact that there were some signs that the killer at Virginia Tech was prone to violence. But nobody picked up on those signs until it was too late.

What if Oklahoma, knowing Jarboe’s background, had just let the video incident slide? Now consider the unthinkable. What if the ultimate horror story takes place and someone’s child is killed at Oklahoma with Jarboe holding the gun?

Understand that there is no evidence that Jarboe has any tendency towards violence. By all accounts, he is just a normal, talented kid looking for an outlet for his creativity. But again, what kind of person Jarboe is becomes irrelevant in this kind of discussion.

If you run a major university, you simply can’t afford think of the individual in a situation that has this set of facts You have to think in terms of the worst possible scenario and what the liability to the institution would be if it happened. In the context of the massacre at Virginia Tech, Oklahoma had no choice. They had to let Jarboe go.

If we must teach our children anything, it is that they do not live or make their decisions in a vacuum. Every word, every deed is put into the context of the world around them. If you are a football player at a major university, that goes double. Is that fair? Nope. But it’s reality.

Josh Jarboe had to learn that lesson the hard way. Hopefully the lesson he learned and the price he paid won’t be lost on others.

Am I wrong about this? Was what this kid did just harmless fun? Are the adults overreacting here?

You tell me.

No, Tony, you are not overreacting. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

Coach Stoops supported Jarboe by giving him a chance-then the kid repaid him with this silly nonsense.

That was a very fine article about the current culture among young people. OU, like UGA, has a former politician (US Sen.)at it’s head. Sometimes…and I really mean sometimes…they make the correct decesions.

I’m with the mighty Sooners on this one. It’ll be interesting to see where the punk ends up. And how long before the “he’s a good kid who deserves a 2d (3d?) chance and is actually a great leader” stories appear, and then how long after that he gets arrested again.

By the way, I still think the Dogs are in for a major letdown —say an 8-4 season.

Jarboe did not do “what kids his age do,” he gleefully recorded a rap song glorifying violence and brought a weapon to a high school. This is not “what kids his age do,” this is what hoodlums and hoodlum wanna-be’s do.

They say: “he engaged in behavior that, in another time, would never have seen the light of day.” Yeah, we call that other time “the past.” How is that relevant? When we catch a bank robber because of security video or DNA, that is also something that “would never have” been in “another time.”

So: “A young man who brings weapons to high school (only a fool would believe he just happened to get caught the only time he did it) and glorifies violence in a gleeful rap, wants to attend a state university far from home for free in order to play a violent game.” Hmmm. Sound like a good idea to anyone here?

No, I didn’t think so.

If he wants to get past this, go to a small college and play and get straight.

Good article, too bad the discussion turns so quickly to the thoughts of the usual idiots with nothing of value to add. I think you are correct this was an easy decision for OU. Tony,

I think you are wrong about kicking him out of school because of the video. If Stoops had kicked him out after the incident that had happened at his high school he would have been well with in his rights.

I am sure I am alone in this but, it is a rap video, and like it or not this is what they rap about in ganster rap videos. I get that most people do not understand it, or like; I do not even like it. I just do not think as a singular incident that a gangster rap video, that was honestly not any good should have been the reason he was kicked out of school.

As I wrote before, if Stoops was going to withdrawl his scholarship before he ever attended Oklahoma he would have been well within his right. I just think this was more of an issue where Stoops got a lot of pressure (alumni, boosters, media, etc…)over the video, and felt he had to make a decision. In this era of instantaneous feedback due to the massive amount of information available, it can be difficult to handle. I think this is why Stoops had the reversal in his decision.

Of course, all that being said it still may have been the best decision for Oklahoma. I just tend to believe that this event, as a singular event, separate of others is not a reason to necessarily get rid of a player.

Those of you who were smart enough to attend a major university, are well aware of college kids drinking and sometimes are in the wrong place at the wrong time. What this kid did was wrong. Columbine, VT, and numerous other school shootings has this country fearing for another similiar situation. Its one thing to have a handgun, its another to talk about shooting people in the head and posting it on YouTube. This kid was a moron and brought it on himself. And anybody who wants to throw in the “race card” in this topic is a pansy. Race is not the issue here. ITS COMMON SENSE!!!

You asked for insight, hopefully you will read this: The kid was treated unfairly by Oklahoma. Is there no longer freedom of speech? I wouldn’t be surprised if he sues the university. The fact that this video of him rapping, which to most who listen to it already know the spewn out lyrics are virtual fantasy anyway. I don’t condone his actions let me be clear but for an 18 year old kid, hanging with his buddy, and rapping into a cell phone video camera, the punishment barely fits the crime…what’s next? If you are caught playing grand theft auto and killing up so many people on the game you are “off the team!”…give me a break. Sitting that kid down and letting him know hey “these types of things you cannot do, “or” then you are off the team” might have been a better punishment. The possibility of him being a kid that might be holding a gun in a crime that costs a Oklahoma student his life…I don’t buy that argument because the risk versus reward having to do with that had already been weighed out…terrible.

Yes there is freedom of speech James in Tallahassee. But there are also consequences for that speech. Playing college football is a privelege and certainly not a right. Most teams have conduct stipulations affecting certain actions that bring discredit to the team and the institution, And that my friend is entirely up to the AD, HC, and the administration. Coach Stoops certainly has the right to do what he did. Let Jarboe sue ala Rueben Houston at GT. Even if he wins no judge on this planet can force Coach Stoops to dress him out or let his shoes touch grass in a college contest for the rest of his career. Jarboe can take the Ryan Perouloux route and find another team. This can be a valuable lesson for this kid. If he mans up he can still have a great college experience while cleaning up his image. This kid was going down the same path as Adam Jones. Coach Stoops just did him the biggest favor of his life. The choices are all on the kid now. Maybe he will make the best of it.

Virgina Tech and Columbine aside—Is this the kind of behavior that we as a culture want/expect from our most gifted young adults? WE need to change this attitude and Oklahoma’s actions seed a message that should be sent by many more.

The facts will never change whether you are white, black, asian, indian, or from West Virginia… If YOU dress like a thug, and if YOU act like a thug, expect society to treat YOU like a thug. I don’t think OU was worried that Jarboe would go postal on campus, I think that they did not want to be known as Gangsta U. Jarboe is old enough to know that he has a reputation from his previous mistake. OU gave him a second chance and he blew it. He had a chance at a free education and all he had to do was give up acting like a thug in exchange. Truth be told, he’s not a cop killer nor any of the things he raps about, but for some reason, he wants people to think that he’s a thug. Well, Josh Jarboe, now you’ve got all the time in the world to hone your thug rep. You could have been somebody.

Snoop was in town, so he had someone in his possy call up and let Les and Company know this and to say they wanted to stop in. Ole Les said sure (disregarding the facts that this is a gangster rapper, drug abuser, and a gain someone who was accused of murder). Does this show good judgement by Les? If the head coach is going to be a folly to this, then how can we hold young men who simply rap into a camera phone accountable? This is ridiculous.

P&G,

Not trying to “hate” on LSU and Miles. It is the complexity of the issue at hand. On one hand we have a head football coach of a school who (intentioned or not) was associating himself with someone who is not the most reputable of people. As a UGA fan people gave CMR slack for soldier boy. Remember? Now Miles is Seen fraternizing with Snoop and we the public dismiss it. Now Jarboe is booted from the program after rapping into a cell phone. Now us being adults should realize that there was no intention of him to do whatever he might have rapped about. It was simply a young man doing exactly what Snoop does and any other rapper. Now we dismiss Jarboe from the program and perhaps rid him of a college education (i say that lightly, but remember they are “student -athletes). Then kind of laugh it off with the head coach, who should have himself used better judgement.

While I do not agree with Jarboe, the double standard should be alarming.

Coach was correct. Can’t have that kid being the face of your football program. These kids have to understand that playing for a major university football program (or any school or program for that matter) is a priveledge not a right. You have to act respectable in everything you do. You are held to different standards than most “kids” because tax paying dollars are funding your scholarship. For every kid out there who does things like this there are 2 or 3 kids out there just as talented who do the right things in life.

There’s a difference between a questionable character kid and a bum who talks about murdering people. That difference becomes more pronounced when one considers that Jarboe has already been apprehended at an institution of learning carrying a firearm. Josh, good kid bad choices. The thugs I know aren’t even playing football in High School and in the context of the word “thug” used in some of these blogs the president is a thug too.

Roswell Ed very well could be the biggest loser to have ever attended Auburn — if in fact he ever attend the University. What a doucheb@g…..sad….clearly Mommy and Daddy need to budget his Internet usage better and force him to go to 4H mixer or some other social gathering so that he can have an outlet whereby he can learn to make friends and somehow score a date in hopes of one day moving out of the basement — I doubt they planned on him still living at home at this point in his life, poor souls.

It amazes me how many people don’t understand the first amendment. Freedom of speech means that you have the right to say what you want without being arrested. It doesn’t mean that you are free from any consequences. If someone were to give their beliefs about their employer, they are well within their rights. However, their employer also has the right to fire them.

Glad to see that our liberal education system is doing such a good job teaching the Constitution…

I even tried to signature mine with TRRE and they immediately posted something with the same sig.

What’s sad is that the AJC has no way to assign unique aliases.

I would hope y’all that have read me in the past can tell the difference between clever and just being rude.

Maybe not.

It really doesn’t matter though because with TB leaving the paper our college football blogging will be coming to an end soon.

To the other Roswell Eds:

I was hated for being smart, clever and quick witted. You have taken that great alias and turned it into being hated for just being a total tool.

I guess your jealousy got the best of you and since you couldn’t compete with me intellectually you decided to take the low road and tarnish the most clever blogger on the AJC.

I’ll still be Roswell Ed and if the others wish to live vicariously through me have at it. The rest of you will just have to figure out who the real one is.

What’s the difference between rapping about violence and making a movie about violence. It seems like the young black man gets judged differently.

And I’m sure Bob Stoops has used profanity on the football field while coaching at Oklahoma.

Tony,

I have to agree with you on this issue. I had a chance to listen to the song, and I was offended. He made the mistake of carrying a gun to high school, and now he wants to glorify shooting people in the head.

Hopefully, Jorboe will get some guidance on how to conduct himself as a civilize person. Also, I’m hoping that he would go to a smaller school and make good grades. Then, once he realized that in life you can have fun rapping, but you must get get rid of the tug mentality.

As far as being a victim of technology he needs to learn that Big Brother is always looking and not to mention our Lord in Savior.

“What’s the difference between rapping about violence and making a movie about violence. It seems like the young black man gets judged differently.”

They get judged differently because rappers are routinely busted for gun charges and are involved in violent incidents. Tupac ring a bell? What about BIG? Your attempt to inject race in to this discussion is absolutely pathetic. I doubt Bruce Willis goes around acting like John McClane. Die Hard was a fictional movie. Are you saying rap is fictional? I thought they were “keeping it real” and rapping about life on the streets? Get real. This kind of race baiting garbage gets us nowhere. I am sick of it.

Your article on Josh Jarobee is excellent. As a former OU player and OU fan it pains me (all of us actually…) to loose a player of the caliber of Josh. There is no doubt he would have been a huge asset to OU over the next few years. However as you laid out the facts Bob Stoops had no choice. It is unfortunate for all concerned. But, we have to start brining back to our culture in the US the aspect of “cause and effect” and ACCOUNTABILITY. The lessons learned from situations like this can have an impact that goes well beyond football players and other athletes. It can help all young people of any race or background. This is important for our culture and the future of the country.
Now, before someone makes the comment that this situation with Josh is not going to change anything I need to add you are correct. But, while it may be old fashioned “we have to start someplace.” Also, hopefully this finally get his attention and allow him to make some basic changes in his life so that he can attain all that is possible with his God given talent. I can say for many folks that are OU fans we hope he does make the changes, get into another program, and attain all he looks to be able to do. Our only reservation is that he does not come back and use it against OU. However, if he does this will be a huge testiment to not only the decision but to Josh himself. GO Sooners!!!!

Puh-leeze how many rappers do you actually know? Come on now. You just mentioned two rappers that died over 10 years ago. I don’t really know many rock and heavy metal artists, so I’m not about to say most kids that listen to them are acid users or meth fiends. I just don’t know enough about that genre of music to make sensible opinion. Without even mentioning the Jarboe incident, these Black athletes are held to a different standard. I don’t personally think the kid should have been kicked off the team, but I do believe he should have known the potential scrutiny he’d be under in Oklahoma from his past actions. So I’m not upset he was kicked off, because that’s what the coach decided was best for his team. With that said, I don’t totally believe he would’ve been kicked off the team if he were white. Maybe, but I not totally sure.

MDawg, I thought that was a bit much myself. Seems like as long as they don’t do it at Your school (in this case, Okla), they are fair game. As many of us have said over and over, it’s time that coaches put an end to this foolishness, and that applies to all coaches at all schools. And in regard to freedom of speech, would a coach have the right to dismiss a player who used his right to freedom of speech to tell an opposing coach about the week’s game plan? There are limits to freedom of speech and an institution or business can determine those if they affect production or effectiveness.

All of this makes me think of the “U” and how Sean Taylor ended up shot in his own home. The sad truth is that a lot of these kids who end up in college football these days are coming from backgrounds that if they weren’t athletically talented, might just as easily end up as gangbangers. So yes, Oklahoma made the right choice. You see Jarboe had already displayed a knack for bad judgement and a tendency to tread on dangerous ground. I think the video shouldn’t have kept him from playing, having a gun on a high school campus should have. Rapping about having guns or shooting guns or shooting people is harmless if it’s done by some kid who doesn’t own a gun. But for someone who carries a gun, they are already halfway there to carrying out the lyrics of their rap. Consider what has happened to real rappers. If you fantasize about a certain lifestyle and then take steps to live it out, sometimes it comes to full fruition. See B.I.G and Tupac. Those who sensationalize a certain lifestyle are prone to live it out. Jarboe wasn’t rapping about some abstraction, he was putting a real lifestyle on a pedestal to be admired. That’s dangerous. Sean Taylor lived on that edge too and it caught up to him, even if he tried to leave it behind.

(Note: The University of Oklahoma, being a publicly-funded state institution, is bound by the provisions of our Constitution, unlike a privately funded institution.)

Tony - finally - something that I disagree with you on!! No excuses for this kid - and understand that he is a kid.

He made a serious mistake at his highschool - then given the “second chance” that all people are willing to give - WITH A SCHOLARSHIP TO OKLAHOMA!!

He was warned to be on his very best behavior …. and made yet another immature, childish decision - and now IS BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE - just like he should be - just like an adult would be held accountable.

BUT DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR JOSH JARBOE!!!

THE POSITIVES:

  1. He still will have a college scholarship to play football at Troy.

  2. He will be attending college - and will have an opportunity to get an education.

  3. Maybe, just maybe - this young man matured a little - will not point any fingers, make any excuses - and accept responsibilty of his own actions.

MAYBE - JUST MAYBE - ADULTS (including you Tony) will quite making excuses like technology and look at the facts - a young man is being held accountable for his actions.

REMEMBER - GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

TECHNOLGY IS NOT THE REASON WHY JARBOE LOST HIS SCHOLARSHIP AT OKLAHOMA - JARBOE’S BEHAVIOR IS WHY HE LOST HIS SCHOLARSHIP AT OKLAHOMA.

The term “thug” has nothing to do with race. I think Pat Dye and Barry Switzer are good examples of thug/coaches. You can define thugs in terms of their behavior, i.e. breaking beer bottles over people’s heads, sucker punching 150 pound college students, and destroying property at a hospital. Anyone who thinks that this kind of behavior is common to average college students is nuts or just doesn’t care. Listen to the lyrics of some of the rap music that many of these kids listen to most of the day. It is racist. It glamorizes drug use and violence and degrades women. Black leaders like Bill Cosby and Al Sharpton have stated that it creates bad role models for young blacks. Richt has no business promoting this music on the football field. Jarboe and some of Richt’s equivalent bad boys deserve a chance to learn and correct their behavior, but I doubt if anyone learns anything by missing the Georgia Southern and C. Mich. games. This kind of wrist slapping did nothing for Odell Thurman. We will see about Jarboe.

I grew up with OU, went to OU, and am still a rabid fan, so I can speak with some knowledge here.

Another angle to this story is that in the not-too-distant past, OU was considered by many to be a renegade program, not unlike U. of Miami of more recent years. We had football players who actually fired Uzis on campus (google “Buster Rhymes Oklahoma” for details). Our program is still under some scrutiny by the NCAA for past violations (hello Rhett Bomar). Plus, we’ve had a fair amount of success and are already under the nation’s microscope.

Jarboe probably is a really good kid who made some stupid mistakes, like many of us made at that age. But his mistakes were compounded by these other issues, and that was his downfall. If OU doesn’t have the past, the scrutiny, and the success, it probably isn’t a big deal. I notice he hopped over to Troy pretty quickly.

I think everyone should check out this link. Andy Staples of SI.com points out something here that not many of us think about when it comes to issues like these. Keep reading after the first page, it’s not going where you think it’s going either. I’m a recent Georgia grad and a Dawg till the day I die and hate Florida with all my being, so I appreciate the foot in mouth moment for Urban Meyer pointed out here, but I also admit he’s at least a decent human being after reading about the whole story here. As TB said, our decisions aren’t made in a vacuum, they all have their consequences, and it’s really something to go against the conventional wisdom and actually consider the whole impact every decision has in life. I think it would be a good thing for a lot you “holier than thou” types to remember.

Your logic is ridiculous. What if he had gone on to shoot and kill a student at OU? We could talk “what ifs” about every student who enters a public univerisity with a record. Let’s talk about the most obvious - a DUI. How many entering freshman have those nowadays? A sh1tload. So the university admits the student knowing of his DUI past and he goes on to kill another student on his 2nd DUI on campus? What then? This is flat out ridiculous to kick him off the team for this. There’s so much worse that kids do who get into school and onto football teams and DO NOT GET KICKED OFF TEAMS and he gets kicked off for this? Being a Sooner living in GA it has really been exciting seeing a kid from GA go to OK to become a Sooner. I was thrilled when Josh made the decision to join fellow GA high schooler Daniel Franklin from Hasbersham and become a Sooner; just as others GA players before them such as Nate Hybl, Tashard Choice (he got tired of sitting behind A.D. and transfered to Ga Tech), and big Duke Robinson.

It was just as equally disappointing to see this incident occur. The word trickling out of summer workouts among the players glowed with upside potential; a dominant football player in the making. Who knows, maybe even the reincarnation of A.D. in a wide receiver’s uniform.

I saw he is enrolling at Troy in Alabama. I am quite certian he will become a star at that level for sure. I sure hope the best for him; I hope he can learn from this and let it help him mature into a young adult. Life is about choices; the ones we make and the ones we do not make. Living with the consequences of our actions and taking personal accountability is one of the tough lessons many of us had to learn at one time in our lives.

Here is one Sooner that hopes Josh can begin to make better choices resulting in better consequences. All the best Josh!

Jarboe should be held accountable for his actions. To excuse what he did because “everybody else is doing it” sounds like some weak excuse for poor behavior you’d get from your kid. Jarboe was still promoting violence in both instances. What I don’t understand is Oklahoma making a statement with Jarboe by letting him go and then immediaitely signing a troublemaker from LSU. The only thing I don’t understand is this: If he was considered a danger to be on the Oklahoma campus, why is he not a danger on the Troy campus????? Could the “unthinkable” not happen there JUST as easily?? Why is Troy not carrying the same concerns as Oklahoma?? This wasn’t a grades issue, where I could understand a transfer, it was a character issue, a safety issue. I can see where your personal incidents have caused you to feel this way I guess, but it has jaded you. You need to understand that there is absolutely ZERO connection between the color of someone’s skin, and their actions. ZERO. Upbringing, environment, those things make a difference. Whatever guy held the gun on you, if a white kid had been born and raised in the EXACT same circumstances, are you saying he would be different, just because of a skin pigment? That’s ridiculous. You are right, thugs should be handled, but thugs are individuals, white or black. Joshua Jarboe is a very good football player, and that’s why he’s getting another chance to shine in college. It was Coach Stoop’s decision to kick him off of the team, and you have to respect him for that. But don’t go and blame his problems on the whole black race. It’s not fair to put the pressure of the entire race on this teenager’s (18/19 year old) shoulders. He hasn’t asked for that responsibility, he just want to play football! And now that Troy has given him another chance, why are we (grown A$$ adults) still writing about the past. Let it go, move on, he has!

Black athletes ike Jarbow are not improving in important areas. They are allowed to live lifes that no one else is allowed to live. They are allowed to do and say things that no one else can say. Most offensively anyone who criticizes a black person is considered a Racist automatically.

Last year, after the Army-Navy game they spoke to the “Captain”. He could barely speak English. He as black btw. How do you get into Annapolis and sound like you are still in the ghetto and have never taken an English class?

Is the only requirement for black athletes that they fog up a mirror? Sure seems that way. Affirmative action at work. When you can get into an elite school and sound like a rapper, we have some serious problems. It’s time to make all people live by the same laws and rules.

Live a thug life, die a thug death. Pretty simple.

James in Tallahassee… The head coach did sit this kid down and explain what he expected of him after the handgun at his HS got him expelled. Did this kid not ever watch the news or read a newspaper about this kind of behavior? Ignorance of the times is no excuse. His actions would have gotten him kicked out of any college in the nation. The people of this country are sick and tired of this kind of scary behavior. They just don’t get it. Then they wonder why this happened to them. Sue the University, PLEASE. That kind of thinking makes me sick.

Any Auburn alum/fan making fun of the quality of any other school’s diploma is absolutely HILARIOUS. Everyone knows AUB is a joke.

By no means do I defend this kid’s actions, but let’s get some things straight:

First, OU was not Josh Jarboe’s second chance. He earned a scholarship, just like the pitcher at Tech who OD’d earlier this year, so let’s be more careful on what we deem wastes of talent. For all we know, both of them are good kids who made bad choices. One kid lost his life and you idiots want to take the other kid’s life away…so much for second chances.

Second, if he’s a behavioral problem, call HIM that, and not every black male. The generalizations are disgusting and truly cast clouds over people who don’t deserve them.

BRAVESFAN79, no self-respecting man is going to allow you to call an entire race of men a bunch of thuggish, freeloading womanizers because one of your exes apparently went black (or blacker) and never went back. You need to get over it, she has. Working the streets, huh? I won’t assume you were a police officer, since you didn’t bother to tell us.

BULLDAWG RICK, you’ve got to be kidding. “Is the only requirement for black athletes that they fog up a mirror? Sure seems that way. Affirmative action at work. When you can get into an elite school and sound like a rapper, we have some serious problems. It’s time to make all people live by the same laws and rules.” Wait a minute, now the academies are Affirmative Action factories as well?? That rap-talking kid is there on the same merits as the rest of his teammates. Take that up with the football HR director, LOL.

Most importantly, how would some of you closets feel if your employer terminated you today over what’s been said on this blog, or if your boss used a couple paragraphs to make a final decision about your character? Not good, I’m certain. If you feel that strongly about it, go on YouTube and say it! We see what it got Josh Jarboe…And how many of you would be shocked by what’s on your kids cellphone, Ipod or computer? Some of you really need to stop applying the old-fashioned double standard.

So every player who has ever quoted a violent 2pac song should be kicked off the team because 1 idiot out of 300 million went crazy at VA Tech? I wonder if he is more likely to turn to violence now than before he lost his team?

Fact Checker I stand corrected, you are not the bottom rung. So, how far apart are UF/UGA and AU?

I have sat at home and read all of your comments about Josh Jarboe, and I,m truly amazed. I,m amazed because half of you don’t even know him, and has never evn met him. each individual is different and we are all accountable for our actions and the things we say and do. But I don”t understand how we are considered guilty, and sentenced before we even commit a crime. I’m a parent with two boys. Both of them are athletes, who are very good. They are very mannerable, and both of them received scholarships from D1 schools. I’ve always tried to instill in them the right things. And i did a very goood job. But, I have seen some of the things young girls have sent to their emails, put on thier my-space, and heard some of theings they say on cell phone conversations. I agree with the the blogger who said half of you writing would be surprised to see and hear some of the things your children say and do. For example: girls gone wild, mostly white girls, were they ever suspended from school or even kicked out? How about all the drinking going on in the colleges, and students dying from this and the hazing. All the pranks and things a lot of us did while were in school, and nothing was done. What happens to the kid that stills another school mascot? Is all this just cute? No, it”s just being a college student and trying to grow up to begin our adulthood. Life is a learning experience and you never stop learning. I’m sure if all of you took a look in your closet you will find we all have done things we are not proud of at one time or another. It is a difference between having psychological problems, and rapping about whatever it is. Thugs, and rappers all come in different races, cultures, and ethnicities. and we all have our prejudices. It’s true that it does matter when it comes to the color of ones skin how harsh the punishment will be on that person. So, everyone who has said something look in the mirror and clean your own household.
