Congrats, Dawgs: UK will beat Vols

After a 4-6 disaster two weeks ago, we bounced back with a record of 7-3 last week. The three losses came because:

— I thought Michigan’s Lloyd Carr had one great game left in him against Ohio State. Nope. Now he’s retired.

— I didn’t know that Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford would get hurt and the Sooners would lose a gold-plated opportunity to play for the national championship.

— I finally thought Clemson was ready to win a big game at home and play for the ACC championship. Boston College and Matty (Ice) Ryan had other plans.

That puts is at 79-41 with two weeks left in the regular season. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving we present another …

Fearless Friday Forecast

1. Tennessee at Kentucky: You know it’s been a crazy season because this is the third big national game to be played at Commonwealth Stadium this season. If Tennessee (8-3) wins the Vols go to the SEC championship game. If Kentucky wins, the Wildcats (7-4) break a 22-game losing streak to the Vols, give their seniors a day to remember, and send Georgia to the SEC championship. Tennessee has been good at home, not so good on the road. We like Andre Woodson against that Tennessee secondary. Kentucky 31, Tennessee 24.

2. Alabama at Auburn: There are so many reasons to like Auburn in this game. The Tigers had last week off and this time of year that kind of rest can be as good as gold. Meanwhile, Alabama hit rock bottom last week with a loss to Louisiana-Monroe. Auburn is playing at home with a chance to make history. Alabama and Auburn started playing football against each other in 1893. In all that time Auburn has never beaten Alabama six straight times—until Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn 21, Alabama 13.

3. Arkansas at LSU (Friday, 2:30 p.m., CBS): Conventional wisdom says that Arkansas, with its great tailback combo of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, can make a run at the nation’s No. 1 team. But LSU’s defense has the ability to slow down the run and force Arkansas to pass, something it doesn’t do well. The Razorbacks will hang in there for a half. But LSU and see the finish line that includes next week’s SEC championship game and, if they win it, the BCS title game in New Orleans. The Tigers are ready to sprint: LSU 31, Arkansas 17.

4. Florida State at Florida: The Gators can’t get to the SEC championship game but they are still in the mix for a BCS at-large bid if they can take care of business today against the state rival. This is a big-time recruiting game that is going to be played at a very high level. Florida wins and Tim Tebow wraps up the Heisman Trophy. Florida 31, Florida State 20.

5. Clemson at South Carolina: Neither team is real happy but both desperately need to win this game. The Gamecocks (6-5) have lost four straight and have to win or risk not going to a bowl. Clemson was in position to win the ACC Atlantic last week but fell to Boston College. This is a quality of life game for coach Tommy Bowden. Clemson 28, South Carolina 24.

6. Virginia Tech at Virginia: This one is for all the marbles in the ACC Coastal. Virginia (9-2) gets the edge if the game is close. The Cavaliers have won three games by one point and two games by two points. The problem is, this game is not going to be close because the Virginia Tech defense will force turnovers. Virginia Tech 28, Virginia 14.

7. Connecticut at West Virginia: This one is for the Big East championship and an automatic bid to the BCS. This is the biggest game in Connecticut’s football history. No. 3 West Virginia still has a chance to win the national championship. The Huskies (9-2) have had a nice season but they won’t be able to run with the Mountaineers on a chilly Saturday in Morgantown. West Virginia 31, Connecticut 17.

8. Kansas vs. Missouri (Kansas City): This is a big time rivalry in basketball. But they have never met in football with this much at stake as the winner goes to the Big 12 championship game. Kansas (11-0) is a good team but the Jayhawks have played a light schedule. Missouri (10-1) has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Chase Daniel and has a quality win over Illinois (40-34). Missouri 28, Kansas 24.

9. Boise State at Hawaii (tonight, 9 p.m., ESPN2): WAC Commissioner Karl Benson believes the winner of this game deserves a spot as an at-large team in the BCS. Hawaii (10-0), currently ranked No. 15, has the best shot if they can finally find a way to beat No. 19 Boise State (9-1), last season’s Cinderella team. Hawaii has dropped six straight games to Boise State. A victory would give Hawaii and coach June Jones their first outright WAC title. Boise State is looking for its sixth straight conference championship. Hawaii gets it done on the island. Hawaii 35, Boise State 31.

10. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma: Oklahoma (9-2) saw its hopes of winning a national championship come to an end last Saturday with a loss to Texas Tech. But the Sooners can still win the Big 12 championship if they can beat their state rival in Norman. After getting his bell rung last week in Lubbock, QB Sam Bradford has been cleared to play. If he can go the distance, this one might not be close. Oklahoma 31, Oklahoma State 21.

My grandma can do that.

Show some guts, Tony, and make a ballsy pick, something you never do.

Boise will win “on the island”, for what it’s worth.

It’s a lock now if superstar picker Tony B. says so. I don’t think I would be posting my 65% record of picking straight up college winners unless it is against the spread. Grow some kahunas and pick some underdogs. I’ll start and say UT and Tech.

Attn: Tony Blowhard…you are such a UT hater! How does Tee Martin even sit close to you on the sports talk show? I do have some good news for all the mullet-wearing, inbred UGA fans. You will be playing in the Georgia Dome this year! Unfortunately, it will be in the Chicken-Feel-Ya Bowl on Dec 30. The Vols spank the MildCats on Saturday and will be motoring down I-75 to Atlanta next week. All you Bulldog fans, enjoy the weekend OFF. Tony, as a “journalist” you really should work on being a little more OBJECTIVE. Your hate for the BIG ORANGE shines through in every article you pen. Let me point out one more thing..the Vols have laid 2 HUGE BUTT KICKINGS on UGA in a row!! Next year will be 3.

even if the pups beat GA tech this weekend which I dont think they will USC will replace them as the highest ranked 2 loss team. USC has more quality wins including the a romping over the number six team in the country and one of their losses is to the # 6 team in the country while both of the pups losses will be to two unranked teams after UT loses this weekend. USC jumps UGA no questions asked.

Hey Phathead Phil,

The only way the Vols can win a big game is by taking two weeks to prepare. After getting spanked by Vandy last week, they just won’t have anything left - sorry.

By the way, I caught a catfish last Saturday that looked just like your coach - choaking and all! I laughed my butt off!

Hope you have enjoyed the last couple of years. It may be a while before your hounds can run with the DAWGS again!

Better hope the orange can take care of business in Lex or it may be chicken nuggets for you on DEC 30. Face it the Dawgs are on the rise and the vols are in decline. Better start looking for a new job, your 1 mil contribution won’t keep you on the sideline in Knox for much longer.

Poor haters. Think of the win-win situation that UGA is in right now haters. Tennessee loses and their in the SECCG. Tennessee wins and all they need to do is beat Georgia Tech (the 6th or 7th best team they’ve played this year at best) and they are STILL BCS bound. Quite the quandry for the haters. It must be hard on you.

Hey Tony, next week it’s Tennessee and LSU at 4:00 pm on CBS.

I wonder what tacky gimmick Richt will have for the Yellow Jackets. To have a coach of a nationally ranked team dancing to “Soulja Boyz” during a game is a huge embarrassment to the state and to the SEC, regardless of which team you support. Richt should try emulating Joe Paterno in sideline behavior instead of Jim Mora and focus on improving his players’ academic performance rather than their dance steps.

Let me also point out, Nimrod, that Vandy had the little puppies BEAT. Unfortunately, Vandy fumbled on the UGA 8 yard line! Then the Pups had to hit a last second field goal to win. The worst part is the knuckle-heads had the nads to dance on the “V”..as if they had just won the NC. Gimme a break. Yes, Vandy played the Vols tough. But when the final whistle blew, it was a BIG ORANGE WIN. So get off the computer Ken..I just ordered a pizza for lunch and you need to get it delivered. DAWGS SUCK!!!

It’s amazing how many Dawg haters there are. If we were just another mediocre program (e.g. Tech), there wouldn’t be near as many detractors. The more hate, the better it is, because it means the Dawgs are winning. The Dawgs have won 62 games and counting in the last six seasons. Only a few teams in the country are on a similar pace.

Now lets make is seven in a row and 14 out of 17 against our biggest rival.

Ol Ball Coach, Please give me one of example of gang banging that relates to a UGA athlete. I’m sure you can’t. You just decided to throw that out there because that’s what small-minded haters do.

I’m sure there are as many hip-hop fans among the student athletes and student body at Scar as there are at UGA. If you haven’t noticed, hip hop is fairly popular among young folks these days.

As for fan ignorance, well only Scar fans would consider 6-5 a successful season. Spurrier is overrated. Sure he used to dominate at Florida when he had great athletes, but everyone seems to have caught up. Scar is not an offensive juggernaut, in fact the defense has been the main factor in those SIX big wins. Last time I checked, Spurrier didn’t coach defense. They don’t call it the graveyard of coaches for nothing. Anyways, I congratulate you on what has been a great season by chicken standards.

Am I the only Dawg hoping that UT beats UK?? If we end up in the SEC title game and lose to LSU, we don’t get a BCS at-large spot anymore. We end up in the crappy Capital One bowl. If we stay out of the SEC title game, we are almost guaranteed a BCS At-large spot due to our high ranking.

Tony in keeping with you fearless Friday Forecasts, Here are my picks compared to yours.

The only game that really matters to GT and GA fans-

GA will beat Tech in a very close and hard fought game.

  1. Tennessee at Kentucky: Kentucky 31, Tennessee 24.

It pains me but I believe Tennessee will find someway to win.

  1. Alabama at Auburn: Auburn 21, Alabama 13.

Auburn will win a very close game maybe coming down to a last play field goal. It is obvious Bama was looking ahead to this game and didn’t come ready to play last week agaainst LA. Monroe but IMHO will come out and leave it all on the field, but Auburn’s overall better talent and depth will be the difference.

  1. Arkansas at LSU (today, 2:30 p.m., CBS): LSU 31, Arkansas 17.

I agree with this one.

  1. Florida State at Florida: Florida 31, Florida State 20.

It won’t be this close and Florida will win Big as FL ST ran off at the mouth.

  1. Clemson at South Carolina: Clemson 28, South Carolina 24.

Clemson will win because South Carolina is all banged up, but the Ole Ball Coach could get his team to pull an upset.

  1. Virginia Tech at Virginia: Virginia Tech 28, Virginia 14.

Virginia in a very close game.

  1. Connecticut at West Virginia: West Virginia 31, Connecticut 17.

This is an interesting game because no one gives Connecticut a chance and ordinarily I would agree but this has been a year of upsets. IMHO if WVU turns the ball over the way they have the last couple of years CT could pull an upset.

CT in an upset.

  1. Kansas vs. Missouri (Kansas City): Missouri 28, Kansas 24.

I agree this is a big game for these 2 teams and both teams are capable IMO of beating anybody in the country and are each others biggest rivals. Missouri has a great QB in Chase Daniels but I believe Kansas has a better overall team. In a close game IMHO Missouri will win

  1. Boise State at Hawaii (tonight, 9 p.m., ESPN2): Hawaii 35, Boise State 31.

In a High Scoring Game I believe Hawaii will break that 5 game losing streak to Boise.

  1. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma: Oklahoma 31, Oklahoma State 21.

OK should win this game hands down because while OSU has a very, very good offense they are not very good on defense. But OSU’s recent history suggests otherwise in this game and I believe they are capable of beating OK.

OK in a very, very close game that could go either way.

Chris D, don’t say that. How can you say that? Our GOAL every year is to win the SEC Championship. You have to have the SEC Championship to run at the NC (not that that would bappen this year anyway). IMO we have a better shot at beating LSU than UT does and if we do make it there and beat LSU that my friend sets us up extremely well for next year AND gives us a third SEC title in Richt’s tenure. After getting shellacked by UT earlier and being embarrassed by SC the Capitol One bowl would be fine with me as long as UF doesn’t get a BCS bid. Of course if UT beats KY and gets beat by LSU I won;t complain about that. First things first though we need to exterminate the bees.

Nobody wants to see UT on TV again this year. They suck really bad. The ONLY reason they beat UGA is because of the week off and the fact that we hadn’t found ourselves yet. We thank UT for that beating because after that, we have been lights out!! UT also had 7 home games this year which really helped out. But face it, Ut will lose 3-4 games every year from now on. They are an avgerage SEC team at best. After choking Sat, it will be fun to see all you inbred UT fans disappear from our (UGA) blog!! Probably no boost for UGA in the BCS, with a Arizona State defeat.USC is a “press delight”. The media loves LA, the only just is for Dawgs to win big over Tech, win against LSU if they get to Atlanta. Then you are talking Rose or Fiesta. UGA will go to Sugar Bowl with a Tech win and a Kentucky loss. Good season going dawgs, KEEP IT UP..#24 certainly bought the agenda to this team..

Tennessee waxed UGAy’s azz and the best part it was two in a row!!! Enjoy the Chicken McNugget Bowl all you redneck Jawja fans. Once the Vols upset the LSU PussyCats they will be in the Sugar Bowl. Hey, Phat Phil You mention the fact that UT has beat UGA 2 years in row, but I bet UT would’nt want to play UGA this weekend. I bet UGA would beat UT 35-14 this time around. Also, I bet LSU will be pulling for UT to win Saturday so they won’t have to face UGA. They know they can beat UT but not UGA. I bet UT will lose to UK and the bowl game and Fat Phill will be fired.

Chris D

The game is played for championships. Conference then national. First one then the other. The NC is obviously out of reach for this year so sights need to be set on the attainable. If your not playing in the National Championship game the rest of the bowls are well, just bowls. The difference that sets them apart is the payout but they are just basically another relatively meaningless game. I personally had much rather be playing in the conference championship with a shot at winning it than playing in a Sugar bowl game that has no meaning

Perfect scenario: UK wins over Tenn West Va loses to UCONN Winner of KU - Mizzou game loses to Oklahoma in Big 12CG UGA goes to SECCG and beats LSU

All the pieces allign for UGA, but wait some how they lost to Tech on Nov 24. All the pieces would have come together and it was Tech that took it away. Oh what might have been.

Unfortunately, I really don’t see that happening, but a guy can dream can’t he.

Actually just scored tickets and while all you dog fans think we have no shot…it has been a strange year in college football. I don’t know if I would be too cocky. Tech has absolutely nothing to lose. Except possibly their coach.

If Tech wins and the above scenario has unfolded and it is actually Tech that keep uga from the title-makes our season.

If we lose, perhaps we get a new coach - we win anyway!

It looks like we win either way, but give me the win over uga anyday!

You haven’t won anything yet just like us. We both have to take care of business today otherwise we both will be crying and thinking what could have been. Now as to the Chicken McNugget Bowl that is funny, you do realize that the Dawgs will be at least # 4 in the BCS, if we beat GT, after today. Which means we will be going to a BCS Bowl and I for one am hoping it is either the BCS NC or Rose Bowl not the Sugar Bowl.

Now as to your Vols they like us have managed to recover from at least one bad loss earlier in the year and appear to be one of the better teams in the SEC if not the country right now and if you win today I believe you will give LSU all they can handle in the SEC CG with a very good possibility of winning and going to the Sugar Bowl. But the namecalling is unnecessary and uncalled for and only shows your own ignorance and jealousy.

That’s because Tennessee still had the most experience of any of the SEC East teams coming back and was expected to challenge for the SEC East title this year. Georgia was thought to be a year away from competing because of the inexperience on both sides of the ball. Just goes to show you just how good a head coach Mark Richt is becoming that he and his assistants have gotten these guys to this point. Now they must finish the drill by beating GT and the rest will take care of itself. IMHO Connecticut is going to pull an upset today, I live in Connecticut and have seen them play several times and contrary to what some of you think they have the athletes especially on defense to compete with WVU and I believe WV will be over looking them which will cost them this game. This is only my opinion and I could be wrong.

By Ed Martin

Georgia did not win yesterday against Tech and your article that said UK will beat Vols was wrong wasn’t it. Georgia did not win. They stole the game using SEC refs not capable of signing their own name or mostly BLIND or plain CROOKS.

The end zone passing iterference call on TECH was a joke as far as anything accurate. Just view the camera films and if you know what a football is you can see that the refs blew it big time as the announcers on TV pointed out. This is unfortunate and smells like sewer sludge that Georgia would use cheating SEC refs to do this when TECH was fighting hard and doing OK against them. A blind in one eye man could have seen what happened. The cameras and experienced commentators (plural) did not lie .. just the paid off refs lied/cheated and must have poecketd some Ga Alumni funds on the side after the game.

Before that ridiculous end zone interference call they did not call an obvoius holding one when a Tech player was held right as he was in direct line mode to sack the GA quarterback way way back on Georgia’s side of the field.

Then the paid off refs missed calls that would have been a touchdown or two for Tech instead giving the ball back to Ga on the twenty after Tech had fought for it and had it in the end zone as a touchdown.

Each ref could not figure out what to do so they had major conferences of several of them in which to screw TECH and not one of them could then be held accountable individually.

Throw in more penalties from the SEC refs against Tech and it was as if Tech was playing with 11 men against Ga’s 11 and about 5 more refs wearing red and black.

So the real socre is REFS/DAWGS 35 manufactured points aginst 17 Tech ones on red and black changed out scoreboard that realy was technically a couple more Tech touchdowns that were ref stolen away.

My personlal opinion from many many years of watching sports and having a son coaching state championns in a Fla High School sport and another son having coached High School teams is that the SEC refs were feeling led to call plays in favor of Georgia. Each one of them shoud be immediately fired and if it was up to me I would ahve fired them yesterday and not ever allow them to ref a T ball game again or a football game of 5 year olds.

To all the DAWG lovers and AJC analysts who thought their beloved DAWGS would make it to the SEC Championship game, I would just like to say GOOOO VOLS! For the AJC sports writer who wrote an article last week stating that GA was co-champion of the SEC-get your facts straight and remember back to Oct 6 when UT destroyed GA making UT outright champions of the EAST! No split championship here!! Let’s GO UT!

hey ed,the refs didn’t beat your team, thomas brown and matthew stafford beat them.tech did a good job of stopping moreno, but made no allowance for brown.tech’s inability to hold on to the ball also cost you two touchdowns and a safety.the wr that dropped a sure td pass, the db that didn’t put the ball away on the return and fumbeled out of the endzone, and tech’s failure to fall on the ball after the muffed punt which would have given you the ball inside the uga five yard line.tech lost because they were out played by better athletes, pure and simple.

Hah, now you have to play a top 5 team in a BCS bowl. At least after LSU won, you wouldn’t have to play a top 10 team in the bowl game. Now you are going to get embarrased by Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas or Ohio State. Hey, you may get to play Tennessee again after we win the SEC and get the auto BCS birth, unless then, Ha Ha, LSU gets the at large bid!

We are in the top 5 but can’t even win our HALF of the conference??? We don’t want to play LSU because we may lose??? I’m gonna go hang out with Smoky, (a dog with a real name. Come on guys, UGA? You couldn’t come up with a good name, no wait, wait, a real name??) at least his team gets it done in the places it is needed. We are talking about BCS bowls when MY most important game is next week, cuz I’m an SEC dog, dawg. And I’ll be home?? Well, at least a dog is in the fight, come on, Smoky, I got your back, skin those Cats!!!

Tenn better not break down and get another beat down put on them like the 45-31,59-20,41-17 games. Tenn needs to go out and prove to LSU that they will not back down and represent the East with class and Dignity. Your big brothers Georgia and Florida have your back. Go DAWGS…Go SEC

Well, I guess Tennessee pulled another one out of their arse. Let’s see, they blew a 21 point lead to USC, only to win on a last second field goal (that they got to re-kick due to their own lack of discipline), really “spanked” Vandy, on a last second missed field goal, and blew a 17 point lead to an “outstanding” Kentucky team, only to have Woodson choke again in quad overtime. It’s this sense of unjustified cockiness, that is the reason Tennessee thinks they didn’t have to try against Vandy in the first half, and the reason they thought they were going to just sleep walk through the second half of USC and Kentucky. The mentality almost cost them against 3 very average ,at best, teams. I believe it was a Tennessee player who said he didn’t want to come to UGA, because they were the type of team who plays in the Peach Bowl, then he got to spend two years at that very bowl. And they lost both of those!!! (probably would have been three, but Tenn didn’t get to go to a bowl in 2003, HA!). I’ll take a two loss UGA team, going to a BCS bowl, any day over a four loss Tenn team that showed they had no business playing in the SEC championship game.

Firedawg676, Have fun at home Saturday. TN did play in a bowl in 2003…it was 2005 we had our horrible year. If we win the SEC CG, we will be remembered as the Best team in the SEC in 2007 and you will be forgotten!!!! No one remembers the random bowl winners. Championships are all that matter.
