The Fearless Friday Forecast

Man, am I hurtin’ today.

It was just a brutal week for your humble correspondent, who was 4-6.

I didn’t believe in the power of Georgia’s black jerseys.

I didn’t believe that Tennessee could stop Arkansas. I heard from a lot of you on that one. I was wrong. I was wrong. I was wrong.

I told everybody that Alabama-Mississippi State would be close, but I didn’t believe it enough to pick the Bulldogs.

I believed Florida State had turned a corner as they went to Virginia Tech. Wrong.

I believed Kansas was due to get beat when they went to Okie State. Double wrong.

And finally, I knew Ohio State-Illinois would be close but I couldn’t make myself pull the trigger for the Zooker. Could have looked real smart if I only had a little guts.

Oh well. We’ll try to do better this time as we present, with as much humility as possible, our Fearless Friday Forecast.

1. Kentucky at Georgia: Given my sterling track record last week, a lot of you have asked me to pick Kentucky, thereby guaranteeing a Georgia victory. Nice try. I will say this. Kentucky has never brought an offense to Sanford Stadium as good as this one. QB Andre Woodson is big time but it also looks like RB Rafael Little won’t be able to go. The problems for UK are on defense where Knowshon Moreno and Matt Stafford should be able to make some plays. Georgia beats UK and pulls like crazy for Vanderbilt against Tennessee. Georgia 35, Kentucky 24.

2. Vanderbilt at Tennessee: You guys are going to beat me up on this one because early in the week I said publicly liked Vanderbilt to pull off the upset. But after some research and a few phone calls, I’ve had a change of heart. Tennessee is 6-0 at home this season and the Vols know they must win or be eliminated from the SEC East race. Vanderbilt will play Tennessee tough because they almost always do under Bobby Johnson. But the Vols have gotten a little second wind and will make enough plays to pull away in the fourth quarter. Tennessee 24, Vanderbilt 17.

3. North Carolina at Georgia Tech: It’s important for the Yellow Jackets to finish 4-4 and not 3-5 in the ACC. I’ve said it all year and I’ll say it again. When No. 22 (Tashard Choice) is on the field, I like Georgia Tech against just about everybody they play. Will that be the case against Georgia? Come back next week and find out. Georgia Tech 24, North Carolina 14.

4. Mississippi State at Arkansas: This is a game that Houston Nutt really needs. A loss puts the Hogs at 2-5 in the SEC heading to LSU the day after Thanksgiving. The Hogs win at home, but I still think it is not going to end well for Nutt at Arkansas. Arkansas 17, Miss. State 14.

5. Boston College at Clemson: When the Tigers lost back-to-back games to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech a lot of people wrote Clemson-and coach Tommy Bowden-off. Now the Tigers need a victory in prime time to go to the ACC championship game. Thanks to Alpharetta QB Cullen Harper, Clemson will get it. Clemson 31, Boston College 20.

6. Miami at Virginia Tech: How many different ways can you say “embarrassing?” If Miami is going to lose 48-0 at home to Virginia, what in the world will happen when the Hurricanes got to Blacksburg, where the Hokies are in the race for the ACC Coastal title? This one has the potential to get really ugly. Virginia Tech 34, Miami 14.

7. Maryland at Florida State: Florida State QB Drew Weatherford got his bell rung last week in a loss to Virginia Tech. He is expected to be back for the Terps (5-5), who are coming off a 42-35 win over Boston College. Florida State (6-4, 3-4) needs this one to finish .500 in the ACC. Florida State 34, Maryland 24.

8. West Virginia at Cincinnati: West Virginia (8-1) is still in the BCS race (at No. 6) but the Mountaineers will not have an easy time against the Bearcats, who lead the nation in forcing turnovers (35) and have beaten South Florida and Connecticut in consecutive weeks. West Virginia has the edge with QB Pat White and RB Steve Slaton, but this will not be an easy game. West Virginia 24, Cincinnati 21.

9. Ohio State at Michigan: A funny thing happened during Ohio State’s march to the BCS championship game. The Buckeyes (10-1) lost to Illinois and so today they go to Ann Arbor needing a win to get to the Rose Bowl. Michigan (8-3), which lost to Wisconsin last week, has a chance to make history. If the Wolverines win, they will become the first team in history to go to the Rose Bowl after losing to Appalachian State. Michigan 17, Ohio State 16.

10. Oklahoma at Texas Tech: Oregon’s loss to Arizona Thursday night has thrown the door to the BCS wide open for the eventually Big 12 champion—Oklahoma, Missouri, or Kansas. The Sooners (9-1) now have a real shot of getting to New Orleans if they can win out. Getting to Lubbock and playing Texas Tech is never easy, especially when QB Graham Harrell (4,878 yards passing, 43 TD) is playing well, as he is right now. Oklahoma wins a scary game. Oklahoma 42, Texas Tech 35.

The College Football World According to Tony

“Alabama will hold LSU to 17 points and defeat the Tigers.”

Reality - despite 3 turnovers and 14 penalities, LSU hangs 41 on Bama.

Anthony continues his annual installment of making assclown comments about LSU football. Lets review his 2006 installments:

(1) LSU will have a disappointing season.

(2) JaMarcus will start the season as LSU’s starting QB, but will go to the sidelines shortly.

(3) Bama will beat LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Tony, thanks again for giving Bama the kiss of death by picking them to beat LSU.

You seemed regained some of your sanity. Can’t say that I disagree with a single pick. The way this season has played out you should not be surprised if you go 0-10 this weekend. I see Georgia pushing their streak of 40+ games to four games this week and winning by 3 TDs. It would be nice to West Virginia, Ohio State and Oklahoma lose also. I definitely see Ohio State losing again.

I would love to see an LSU - Oklahoma championship game. I think that would be a true 1 vs 2 game. If Kansas stays undefeated (meaning they beat OK in the B12 Championship game), then they will deservingly be there. All the way around, even tho its not UGA, it will be the best matchup for a champion to be determined.

War Eagle, good post. I agree, from an Auburn fan’s perspective, it would be hard to think that UGA wouldn’t just dismantle UK. However, UK did beat LSU (#1 LSU) and they have played hard all year long. I say we win big, but we don’t pull away until late 3rd quarter.

As history proves, TN plays better when people doubt them. I am OK with Vandy and Kentucky getting all the pub for pulling an upset. Heck, I like that GA is getting the attention in other sites for their possible upcoming meeting with LSU. Pay no attention to the Vols, they had not shot to beat GA, SC, ARK, and can not possibly beat KY and Vandy.

Here’s all that has to happen for UGA to go to the big show…no problem: As always, this assumes Georgia wins out.

Arizona State will lose to USC this weekend, and if not USC, then to Arizona (which is looking like world beaters right now against the qb-less Oregon). That moves Georgia up to number 8.

Ohio State loses to Michigan. Dawgs are now number 7.

West Virginia loses to either Cincy this weekend or UCONN next weekend. Dawgs are up to number 6.

Missouri wins out beating Kansas State and Kansas. Kansas drops though moving the Dawgs to number 5.

Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma. Now we’re number 4. In the Big 12 Championship, Oklahoma beats Missouri. Now Georgia is up to 3.

Oregon already lost to Arizona. Now Dawgs are number 2.

Unfortunately Tennessee beats both Vandy and Kentucky and they get to play LSU for the SEC Championship. LSU stomps them and stays at number 1.

National Championship game is all SEC. #1 LSU vs. #2 UGA.

You heard it here first. Tech will “pull a Chan” and come out flat tomorrow against UNC. UNC will jump out to a 10 to 14 point lead. Tech will claw back only to fall short due to some questionable call by the Master himself. UNC 28 - GT 26 Tech is headed for a 6-6 record and will be lucky to squeeze into a bowl sepite claims that the streak will continue. God help us if Tashard comes up hobbled.

Ohio State will rebound and woodshed Michigan. 31-14

Can’t argue with many of the other picks. I have a sense that BC will play better against Clemson than you credit them, but Clemson is unpredictable and BC has been on a slide…so I’m not sure enough to predict differently.

By Omnihawk

Now I don’t want to jump the gun, but I think UGA is definitely going to the national championship. West VA will lose to Cincinnati tomorrow or Uconn next week, and Ohio St will lose to Michigan. Those are givens. Then we need Kansas to beat Missouri, which is also likely. So then Kansas beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship, and we beat LSU in the SEC Championship (assuming Tenn loses). Its that simple. And you know we won’t lose to Kansas, so they might as well mail us our trophy.

By Villa Rica DAWG

November 16, 2007 10:04 AM | Link to this

I think you are dead wrong Rick.

Take the UF game for example, the Dawg’s secondary help their own quite well. But more importantly, the GA pass rush has been the key lately. Even Tebow (who is quite possibly the best in the game today) couldn’t hold us back. He was constantly hurried and sacked six times during that game.

Again, I think you are dead wrong.

Matty P, what logic! That’s hilarious. I was with you right up until the ending.

I’m praying for my Jackets to beat UNC but then have the Chan Master post the worst beating by UGA as the bookend cap on his career at the Flats. Somehow the team gets an invite to the Music City bowl because the players deserve some reward for having to endure Chan for 4 years. We’ve had to endure him for 6 and enough is enough.

1&2-either uga or ut will come out flat this weekend, they have both been hot the past couple of weeks and it’s hard to maintain the intensity, senior day may give the dawgs a spark,so i am giving them the edge,ut gets upset by vandy. 3-if tech can’t pull this one out with choice back, maybe chan should be fired.i sthink all the talk about chan will hurt the teams moral, although they could circle the wagons and blow the heels out. 4-ark should be glad their at home,it gives them a chance, miss st still pulls out a win. 5-bc beats clemson. 6-my head says vt,i have a hunch it will be miami, upset special 7-maryland 8-wv,and it ain’t even close 9-michigan,they seem to be getting stronger 10-sooners,they are too strong.don’t feel bad tony,my picks last week were lousy too, that’s why college football is fun,on any given saturday——-

Here we go……Dawgs track to BCS Championship game.

Oregon is out, Mizz, West Virgina and Ohio State are out as well after this weekend.

UGA will take care of business this weekend and will feast on Thanksgiving leftovers on GT.

Vandy or Kentucky knocks Tennessee out of SEC East race.

Kansas and OU go head to head in Big 12 Championship. Winner will be in BCS Championship game, loser will be out of contention. I’d have to lean on OU for this game.

After Tenn is eliminated, we come into the Dome and play a home game against a team that is being motivated by a Coach who has his bags packed for Ann Arbor (remember Michigan hands it to THE Ohio State this weekend). Dawgs win big under Stafford’s arm and Moreno’s legs.

UGA v. Kansas or Oklahoma in the BCS Championship game.

We all know how that one will turn out!!

GO DAWGS!

By JeffL

November 16, 2007 11:17 AM | Link to this

Those are nice dreams for GA fans, and your got a great chance of being there but here is what is going to happen for the National Championship game. OU is going to lose to OK State and beat the winner of the Missouri-Kansas game. LSU will lose the SEC championship regardless of wheter they play Tennesee or Georgia. West Virginia will win out and quietly sneak into the title game(They are the most dangerous team in the nation right now)OSU will lose to Michigan. Arizona State will lose to USC. Which means as long as GA gets to the SEC title game and wins, they will be playing West Virginia in the National Championship game(which I think would be a fantastic rematch of the 2006 Sugar Bowl!) If Tennesee wins out it may end up being VA Tech vs WV instead of Georgia though!

BullDawg Rick

I am not so sure UGA would get the other BCS bid if UT wins out. If the Vols were to somehow beat LSU, they would get the Sugar bid. We would be competing with LSU for another possible bid. Based on how we have been playing and if we win out, I suspect we might get the bid over LSU, but that would be close. Need Hawaii to lose tonight or against Boisie because those guys could slip in and take a BCS slot. We just need to win and then see what happens.

No doubt the nat’l championship is in the bag for UGA this year and next year. The only problem, although minor, is that they won’t win their half-conference. But the SEC brokers will find a way to rerig the BCS formula to allow the Dawgs a way to back in.

Don’t put much hope in an Oklahoma loss this week. I’m a Texas Tech grad, but we have NO luck against Oklahoma. The most points that offense has EVER scored against Bob Stoops’ defense is 25, and Tech’s defense gives up an average of 42 in their losses so far. Oklahoma is going to roll, and get credit from the press for a quality win that’s not as impressive as it may look.

You’ll realize he’s not that good, the players are, and he’ll leave it in disaray like he did OSU. Please Stay Lucky Les… There’s no reason they should have beat UF, Auburn, or Bama besides luck. They were outplayed from beginning to end. If LSU survives Arkansas and plays for the SEC Championship and wins, they will be the luckiest team to ever come out of the SEC. I will actually cheer against an SEC team for the first time.

Here’s a fearless Friday Forecast…..

1) Lloyd Carr steps down from UM. Jim Tressle looks for another carr to drive ;-o)

2) Les Miles accepts the UM head coach position and leaves LSU.

3) Nick Satan shows his horns & loyalty - leaves the sinking Bama ship and returns to be the hero at LSU.

4) Bama removes Saban’s likeness from the Bear Bryant Hall of Fame and hires Sylvester Croom so they can once again beast Missy State.

Whistlebritches , I couldn’t agree with you more. That said, if we made the SECCG and beat LSU and all those other guys in front of us had two loses? Well then could argue about beating the #1 team and moving on.

You dumb dawgs are hilarious. You luck up and beat Florida and then beat an Auburn team with no offense, while your coach is using cheap stunts no less, and suddently you’re world beaters! LMAO. Have you already forgotten the loss to South Carolina? Has it slipped your mind about getting whipped in every phase of the game by Tennessee, with Stafford and Moreno the focus of your offense? And what about barely slipping past Vandy which finally broke your streak of SEC East defeats and having your players jump on their V? Now you’re relying on Vandy or Kentucky to get you in the SECCG. Well, I’ll enjoy your comments after you lose to Kentucky and get jolted back to reality. Don’t worry though, you wouldn’t have made it to the SECCG or a BCS bowl anyways. And to those talking National Championship…put down the booze!

Yellow blood..once again is it yet another p** off Ga Tech Acc guy who is sick of hearing about the superiority of the SEC over the ACC and sick of seeing UGA beat Tech?? Truth can hurt sometimes..you just need to get rid of Gailey, and get a Quarterback..Bennet is not the guy for you.. best bet for the SEC is for LSU to play in NC game and UGA to get in to the Sugar bowl..

Dark Corner…here we go, pot calling kettle black. I might be wrong but i’m pretty sure there are more cows, farm animals etc. in East Bumble F*&$, GA or whereever the hell UGA is. Since you probably have never set foot in a classroom at UGA, i’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. This may or may not come as a shock to you but like Clemson, UGA devotes a lot of resources to agriculture, particularly bovine sciences. The point is that everytime you make fun of us for being a cow college, you may want to clean the egg off your face because your University is one too.

Michigan is a horrible pick, better stick to Mr Southern football. Tressel has Blue’s number, Carr has lost it, and QB and RB are banged up. Buckeyes by 14, Dawgs by 17, but no BCS for them.

Gdawginkalamazoo, I agree if all are 2 loss teams, UGA would be one of the best ones at this point in the season. Also, the SEC losses are definitely more credible than any other conference (ie. Oregon losing to freaking Arizona). USC was the exception to the Pac-10 rule the past few years. Oklahoma truly lucked out against Mizzou. I’d have a hard time not putting a 2 loss anything team in front of a 2 loss SEC team. More reason for a playoff. It can’t just be the team with the least losses at the end, someone needs to win it outright!

DAWG FUD: I am not Tickle Pile Yellowblood. My nominee for Tech coach is Bobby Petrino. Surely he’s had enough of those whiners by now. Other possibilities include Sylvester Croom and the coach at Appalachian State. Potential coaches of no interest to me include D. Franchioni. Would love to talk to Tuberville but if he left Auburn it would be for something that is already set up. Ron Zook would be great but I’m sure he is smart enough to stay at Illinois.

Perfect setup for an upset for Kentucky. Even at Georgia. They beat LSU in Ky. but they beat LSU in a similar setup. I got the feeling Carolina upsets Tech too. There will be almost as many UNC people in the stadium as Tech and it is one of those early games, 12 noon. Hope I’m wrong and putting it in writing will probably insure two wins for our local teams but I am not convinced Ga. is bulletproof and I KNOW Tech is suicidal.

What’s up with this turning in to a male Auburn fan pick-up site. Listen Roswell Ed and War Eagle, you dudes need to keep your pants on and go back in the woods and leave the blogs for real men and football fans. Ed: the world might accept all kinds of people, but apparently the Auburn sideline is a little more open minded than the other SEC programs. Roll Tide and let ED & War Eagle shower together!

WTF is with all the tickle comments coming from the Western side of the conference and the ACC? Maybe we can ditch Ole Miss and let Tech join in the fun the Auburn guys are having.

Hey, yellow blood, do you REALLY think Zook, Petrino, Tuberville, or any other coach wants to come to TECH? LOL You guys are selling 4 tix, 3 hats, food & drink, parking & the chance to kick-off for about $40 and you still can’t fill the stadium. Maybe you can pick up Miles, Saban and Richt while you are at it as your coordinators and special teams coaches. LOL Wake up, dude, you will be lucky to get a Tech alumnus to accept the job. What an idiot.

What would November be like with out the dawg fans once again dreaming about a shot at a national championship? Every single year since 1980, mindless drivel seeps out of the mouths of the idiots. You have not won a big game in 27 years! You haven’t had a big game since 1983! I sure am glad my school has a TRADITION of winning. I know that every year, we DO have a legitimate shot, like this year, again. Win a few more championships, compete every year, then MAYBE UGA will be recognized as a true powerhouse in college football. And when you schedule your non-conference games, play someone who has been ranked in the top twenty at least 1 time in the last 20 years, will ya!

Attention all mullet-wearing, cousin marrying, 3 teeth Jawja rednecks: The Vols will win the SEC East and then upset a highly favored LSU team in Atlanta on December 1st. That win will give UT an automatic berth in the Sugar Bowl which will leave the Peach or Music City Bowl for the Pups after Kentucky waxes their a*******ez on Saturday. I will be laughing my BIG ORANGE AZZ OFF!!!

The Dawgs beat the Wildcats, Showtime and Stafford have one of their best games ever. Unfortunately for the Dawgs, but fortunately for my friend Gen Neyland, the Vols win the Tennessee state championship. Personally, we had the chance to be in control and were outplayed by the Vols so I have nothing to complain or whine about. Let’s play one game at a time and this one is Kentucky, they will lose.

LMAO

You are an idiot!!! I guess OSU, CU, and CU Auburn with a Lake, ASU, and others are not great out of conference teams. Well, we play one every year, Georgia Tech.

Big games, 2 SEC championships, Sugar Bowls, You are right no big games.

What is your school? You are so proud of it you don’t even list it. Oh yeah, the only team in the top 25 for the last 11 years.

The best SEC record in the last 11 years.

So I wil lake our 12 -15 SEC championships, couple of National Championships, Hiesmans, Outlands and all the others, and say to you let’s get in the ring and see how big your mouth is then.

Hey Dawg fans. The Wildcats you will see tomorrow are not your father’s Kentucky Wildcats. UK is no longer the doormat for the traditional SEC powers. The Blue Nation has wanted a football team for decades and now we have a real team. This bunch of Cats can score a lot of points, especially on a porius defense. Take the Cats lightly and you will go down. Kentucky will hit you!

Hey RetardDawg, Wow! I mean wow! You are so clever. Woo… hang on, let me catch my breath… You gave yourself a UGA moniker indicating that you were challenged and proceeded to talk crap in favor of the dawgs yet you used ridiculously poor grammar and bad spelling. It’s a shame that you could not find a font set that would display a backwards “s”. That would have been pee in your pants funny. Either way, it’s very funny because you illustrated the point that UGA fans are dumb. Wow! I, for one, have been set straight. Too bad I am not dumb enough to waste my time trolling someone else’s blog.

Vols should rollup Vandy! Dawgs should get by Cats! Now, lets see what really happens! Only certainty is that Philapottamus will clean buffet at Golden Corral regardless. Krispy Kreme is told not to turn on the red light during Vol games! Ark would hire Phil, but food budget is not enuf! Fear the fat one, Vandy!
