The stars say Bama will beat LSU

The record was 6-4 again last week because I didn’t have the guts to pick Georgia, Kentucky finally had their letdown against Mississippi State, Texas A&M didn’t man up against Kansas, and Arizona State continued to defy the odds and beat California. That gives us a record of 61-29 in what has to go down as the craziest seasons these old eyes have ever seen.

So let’s begin what promises to be a November to remember with another edition of the Fearless Friday Forecast.

1. LSU at Alabama: Logically, we should go with LSU in this game. The Tigers have more athletes, especially on defense, and are still in the hunt for the national championship. But every now and then the stars are aligned just right for an undermanned team at home to create some magic. The stars point to the Crimson Tide on Saturday. Alabama 20, LSU 17.

2. Troy at Georgia: Surely, after hearing about the Trojans and Omar Haugabook all week, the Bulldogs will be ready against the team that could win the Sun Belt Conference. Georgia needs to start building momentum towards next week’s big showdown with Auburn. Georgia 31, Troy 17.

3. South Carolina at Arkansas: The Gamecocks will have to get over a bitter defeat at Tennessee last week. Because if they beat the Hogs Saturday and knock off Florida next week in Columbia, South Carolina can still win the SEC East. Arkansas and coach Houston Nutt are literally fighting for their football lives. Gamecocks win in a squeaker. South Carolina 17, Arkansas 16.

4. Vanderbilt at Florida: The Gators are in the same situation as South Carolina. If they take care of Vandy today on Homecoming, next week’s game with the Gamecocks could be huge. Florida is really beat up and will have to win this game on guts. Florida 21, Vanderbilt 14.

5. Florida State at Boston College: In a wild season of upsets, we’re about due for another one. No. 2 BC escaped with a win at Virginia Tech last week and is due for a letdown. Florida State has a number of fast athletes on defense and they could give QB Matt Ryan some problems. This one will rock the BCS. Florida State 17, Boston College 10.

6. Wake Forest at Virginia: Wake Forest has won six straight since starting the season 0-2 and, if Boston College loses, the Deacons are right back in the ACC Atlantic race. Virginia finally ran out of luck last week against N.C. State but the Cavaliers are still in control in the Coastal Division. That will not be the case after Saturday. Wake Forest 24, Virginia 17.

7. Clemson at Duke: The Tigers are gearing up for two huge home games against Wake Forest (Nov. 10) and Boston College (Nov. 17). But the Tigers sometimes lay an egg when their fans least expect it. That won’t happen on Saturday because Cullen Harper of Alpharetta is giving Clemson great play at quarterback. Clemson 31, Duke 10.

8. Arizona State at Oregon: The Sun Devils (8-0) have overachieved in their first year under Dennis Erickson. Quarterback Rudy Carpenter is nursing a sore thumb and that is never good. Oregon’s Dennis Dixon runs the spread option better than anyone and that’s not good for Arizona State, either. For the Sun Devils, the streak ends here. Oregon 35, Arizona State 21.

9. Wisconsin at Ohio State: Wisconsin has won three straight at Ohio State and three of the last four meetings overall with the Buckeyes. But Ohio State is an efficient team and quarterback Todd Boeckman is getting better every game. It’s tempting to go with the Badgers in an upset, but Ohio State (9-0) looks like a team that may soon be punching its ticket to New Orleans.

10. Nebraska at Kansas: It’s been almost 100 years since Kansas was 9-0 in the sport of football and we keep waiting on the Fighting Manginos to come back to earth. But the Jayhawks are the real deal on defense and quarterback Todd Reesing, who is averaging 272.3 yards of total offense per game, is starting to impress some people. Looks like Kansas may just roll until the Nov. 24 showdown with Missouri in Kansas City. Kansas 28, Nebraska 17.

There is no way LSU goes into Tuscaloosa and loses to Nick Satan…Too many people have called this one Barnhart, you shoulda gone with the favorite instead of continuing to screw up your record. Also, nice no pick on the OSU-Wisc game…Wisconsin wins in Columbus…And Nebraska upsets Kansas..Their record against Nebraska is abismal for a reason. War Eagle!

Was it just me or were the announcers for the Tech game particularly brutal towards the Jackets? What was with all the Teletuby Referenences? Pretty embarassing I must say. Anyway, LSU should crack some Crimson head. Bama is not that good (I’m still not convinced) and LSU should roll

The Payroll Tide has just been given the KISS OF DEATH again by Anthony. I say again because last season Anthony had in his top 10 for 2006 that the Payroll Tide would lose 3 of its 4 road SEC games with the lone win coming at Baton Rouge. Didn’t happen, did it Tony? Bama going to hold LSU to 17 point? Funny! Tony, when it comes to LSU football you are consistently WRONG. In your July 2006 look at the upcoming season, you picked LSU as your team to disappoint. Well a 11-2 season with the # 3 final ranking, I would say you shot nother air ball.

I think the bulldogs need to come out focused and get off to a great start and try to put this game away early. I think we really need to let Cox get some clean up and some of the other backups as well. Hopefully we can get the starters out early so no one is injured, and they’ll be good and rested for Auburn.

Game 3) I just have a hunch that the Hogs will play well at home against the Gamecocks & pull out a close one. Game 4)Gators Roll!! Game 5) If you are waiting for the Eagles to collapse, you’ll have a long wait. Mr Heisman Trophy Matt Ryan will put up big numbers on FSU. Game 6) Deacs Roll!! Game 7) Tigers Roll!! Tony, What is it with you and UPSETS this year? I think you’ve been wrong EVERY TIME! Bama has improved tremendously and LSU has had perhaps the toughest schedule in the country. But LSU beat Bamma no matter where they play this year. LSU is just too good and now focused after the loss to KY and close games with Auburn and UF.

I think Auburn will be out because both losses came to SEC West opponents which is the second tie breaker. BCS rankings are way down the list.

Jim, I think you mean Alabama Dirt, not drit…idiot!!!

Roswell Ed, you continue to amaze with your asanine statements. If we do happen to beat LSU, losing to FSU in Jacksonville after ark, and OT to UGA does not have anything to do with conference strength. Also, if we beat LSU, and LSU wins out, bama needs 1 more victory over MSU or AU to head to the dome. A bama win, and LSU losing to either ole miss or arky sets the iron bowl up for the west championship.

If they lose to UK and to a team that got beat by UGA, FSU and had to go to OT to beat Ark that means we don’t really have a BIG DOG in the conf.

Who are we left to hang our hat on then?

We’ll end up with Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

I am in Birmingham today, and the Bama faithful are talking lots of smack. However, even some of the local press is trying to play down expectations, and I still think Bama is a couple of years away from consistently winning and making it to a major bowl (but still non BCS).

By the way, Tech stinks. If I were a Tech student, I would rather wear a VA Tech jersey, too. I think Tech players stole the jerseys and probably tried to take the VA Tech flight home.

CockOTW, you’re building a WHAT? A fan of a school that is 6-3 and has never won an SEC East Divisional title (and only one conference title EVER, an ACC title in the ‘60’s), a school that is a click over 0.500 LIFETIME, competing in the knock-down, drag-out SEC East, is talking DYNASTY?

Dynastic prognostications can come from teams who have been there, or who have at least sniffed it once or twice, but you guys haven’t even been close!

Yeah, you’ve got a lot coming back next year. So does Georgia (almost everybody, in fact. More than you, for sure). So does Florida. And your win this year was the Dawgs’ own fault—a gift distilled from poor play-calling,lackadaisical attitude and p*-poor execution. Despite all of this, we still had a chance to beat you in the end. Want to play us again next week? We’d line it up in the Columbia K-mart parking lot and have at it. No?

Didn’t think so.

We spotted you your one win every ten years against us this year, in a year that it doesn’t matter as much. You’ll start next year with an SEC loss, as usual, when the Dawgs exact revenge for this season’s debacle. No chance of us overlooking you next season. And out top-rated recruiting class will be coming in to help out (including the top player in, yes, South Carolina, who is smart enough to recognize futility when he sees it).

BTW, you mention Georgia losing “4 or 5 games.” When did Georgia last lose five games in a season? Give up? It was Donnan’s first year. Eleven years ago. We’ve had five ten-or-more win seasons and two SEC titles since then. That’s more than South Carolina has had in either category IN ITS CENTURY-PLUS HISTORY.

It ain’t braggin’ if you can back it up. But you can’t. They’ll bury Spurrier face down in Columbia, sprinkle garlic over his grave and drive a wooden stake through his black heart.

They don’t call it the “Graveyard of Coaches” for nothin’.

I agree with you on Alabama vs. LSU Tony.

From what I see it just doesn’t add up to an LSU win to me.

They are overlooking Alabama and just trying to beat Saban.

The only thing wrong with that, is Saban is not on the field. He is on the sidelines.

LSU is a much more talented team, no doubt.

But Alabama is better coached, and the home crowd will rally around some early scores and make it a lot harder for LSU than people think.

If Alabama scores first, watch out. The Tide will Roll.

If you are right about Alabama you are better that I thought which was good. Funny things are happening to these well coached teams as the year goes on. Teams that looked awful in September are starting to look like football teams now. I just don’t think Bama has it especially against a LSU team that really hasn’t played a bad game this year. Who else has been that consistent? Auburn is the most improved, Georgia the most disappointing and LSU the most consistent playing at a high level. I’m not sure Fla didn’t play a poor game last weekend.

Dang, even a nole homer like me doesn’t believe my team has a chance against BC. I also don’t think Bama beats LSU. Other than that I agree with you Tony. Oh and Nick, Chris Rix would run circles around DW any day. DW is hands down the absolute worst QB I have ever seen play college FB in my life and we will have no chance winning anything with that joke of a QB playing at FSU!

I’m tired of hearing about how good Troy is - they have 1 quality win, if you call OK State a quality win. Have you actually taken a look at their schedule, not just their 6-2 record?

Other than OK State, the other five teams Troy has defeated have a combined total of EIGHT wins!!

If Troy were so good, they would not be a 16-point underdog to the Dawgs.

Hey Gen Neyland, Auburn first 4 games next year, at WVA, at Miss State, LSU, Tenn. They are trying to get (Tenn.Martin) before WVA, but having schedule problems.Coker is gone for sure??He must have really screwed up.I coached against Bradley County, Baylor Schools, Chattanooga City and McCall School. They were all very well coach teams, but we did ok.I coach Bobby Scott, QB for Vols, made couple All American teams, plus New Orleans Saints for 12 years. He has Bud distributorship in Knoxville..He is only high school player I ever saw throw football 90 yards.

Hey Bamafan 27, I think the Tigers are going to stomp a big “GEAUX” on Saban’s ego and his crummy team. So at the end of the of don’t go crying to your mommy because your team got there a* kicked! Oh yeah, hey “LSWHO”, get your mommy to get you some tampons because paper tigers don’t work for your problem!.

RE: Bama vs. LSU

I don’t think that Nick Saban has any special knowledge about the LSU players that will benefit him in the game today.

I do think that many of the LSU players have special knowledge about Nick Saban that will benefit the Crimson Tide.

The LSU players who played under Saban know what kind of coach he is. They know how well Bama will be prepared for this game. There will be a seed of doubt planted in their minds. Just a little seed. Just enough to make them second-guess what they are doing on the field.

If Coach Saban has any effect on the outcome of this game aside from his coaching ability, this will be it. Alabama lost something like 25 recruiting picks over the past several years and LSU clearly has more talented players on the roster than does Bama. That is why the bookmakers are picking LSU to win.

The game however, is only played by the 22 players who happen to be on the field at any given time. If the players in the Crimson Jerseys are reaching or exceeding their potential, while the opposing players are distracted by that nagging little seed of doubt; then the outcome of the game could surprise the experts.

LSU has an excellent football team. Les Miles is a fine Head Coach. There will be no shame in losing this game if Bama makes their best effort and comes up short. If they win, it will be a glorious occasion. I’m looking forward to celebrating a glorious occasion tonight!

Randy, let me explain how this works to you.

Listen up good now, because I know you’re an idiot, okay?

Okay. Georgia could lose to Auburn and they still would be ahead of Florida in the SEC East standings.

Do you understand that you complete moron?

Why? Because we beat y’all, so we have the tie-breaker.

Gator fans are so stupid. And gay. And mullet-headed, jorts-wearing fools.

Nascarfan,

If UGA loses to either UK or AU

UT loses to Ark, UK or Vandy

and UF beats USC,

Who wins the the 3-way tie breaker UT, UF or UGA?

If UT loses twice, then we win a 2 way tie breaker with UF even if we drop one, but if UT only loses once, I think we need to win out, right?

Well despite being dominated by Saban’s recruited class, the TIDE almost pulled it off. He is a winner (expensive one) but he will bring Bama back to the top 5 after a couple of his recruiting years. FNaPC only hit on Saban’s Tigers of his picks and despite the abuse of our new coach, I hope LSU gets to play OSU but watch out for Oregon and Kansas cause they are strong this year. Roll Tide!
