Georgia played like GEORGIA again

Five things we learned from the weekend:

1. Georgia played like GEORGIA again: I don’t have any problem with Mark Richt’s motivational ploy against Florida, but the SEC office may have to say something given their previous stands on sportsmanship, etc. But Georgia didn’t beat Florida because the whole team rushed the field after the first touchdown. The Bulldogs won because they played GEORGIA football again.

They ran the ball.

They were physical for 60 minutes.

And every time Georgia had a chance to hit somebody, they did it with enthusiasm.

And did I mention that they RAN the ball?

After Saturday’s game with Troy, which is pretty good team, the Bulldogs had better buckle it up for Auburn on Nov. 10 because the Tigers are going to come to Athens and challenge their manhood.

2. Tennessee still has issues on defense: You have to give the Volunteers credit. They were dominated in the second half by South Carolina and, in a normal year, would have lost. But this, we have learned, is not a normal year. Tennessee gave up 501 yards of total offense with 355 coming in the second half. Because the defense is basically holding on for dear life, it is going to be very difficult for the Vols to win their last three SEC games with Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. Tennessee may control its own destiny, but unless that defense gets better that destiny is looking pretty shaky.

3. A team with three losses could win the SEC East: It’s happened in the SEC West, but never in the East. But given the kind of year we’re having, it’s going to be hard for Georgia (4-2) to beat both Auburn and Kentucky. It is also going to be hard for Tennessee (3-2) to beat Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. Just looking at the standings, where everybody else has three losses, it might take somebody from MIT to figure out the tiebreakers.

4. No coach in the country is doing a better job than Jim Grobe: After Wake Forest opened the season with losses to Boston College and Nebraska, a lot of people dismissed Wake Forest’s 2006 ACC championship as a flash in the pan. Since then the Deacons have won six straight and are bowl eligible for the second straight year. Wake Forest has to play three out of its last four games on the road with trips to Virginia, Clemson, and Vanderbilt. Nobody gets more out of his talent than Grobe, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 2006.

5. We shouldn’t be surprised by Mississippi State: The Bulldogs (5-4) won at Kentucky on Saturday and won at Auburn earlier this season. This is a solid, well-coached team with a good defense. This season is proof that Sylvester Croom is building something that will last in Starkville. If it qualifies, this team deserves to go to a bowl. It would have to win one of the last three against Alabama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

Are we really going to talk about UGA manhood? Again?Come on you beat Alabama and Florida. In the past you’ve beaten Auburn,USC and UT. Can we move past the “Man enough” aspect.

Great victory on Saturday, lets not overlook this weeks opponent. Take care of one team at a time and we will end up back in Atlanta.

Where are all the Lamecock fans now? I said in this blog 2 weeks ago after the struggles at UNC that the chickens would lose to Tenn, Fla, Arkansas and get upset along the way against Vandy or Clemson. I’m right on the money and to all you chicken fans who thought you were so great after ending the streak to my dogs, go look at the standings and you will see as usual, yourself looking up at the class of the conference. Oh by the way, prepare yourself for a 7-5 finish and a spot in the Music City bowl!

Then why didn’t the suddenly super Bulldogs beat them AT HOME this season?

A win over a merely pretty good UF with a ailing QB is mice but I also remember you folks got slaughtered on your visit to Neyland, no? The Gamecocks took the first half off and STILL could have won.

The Gamecocks had a down couple of weeks, but I think they have some fight still in them. I still think the jury is still out on the Bulldogs.

I know these are strictly blog posts, but lets take this in perspective. The Dawgs had a GREAT win in Jacksonville… finally, this is also a crazy year and they still need to win out. None of the games left on our schedule are gimmee wins. So you can talk smack to the other fans all you want but, you may be giving them fodder to come back on if the Dawgs don’t take care of business. With that said. GO DAWGS!

Boy, go to the Gator board and read it. I never heard such moaning and whining in my life. ALL they can focus on is that little dance in the end zone to start the game. What about the other 57 minutes. Yes, Tebow was not 100%, but with no Shockley 2 years ago and losing 21-14, What if. And who care, Gators call that a win….guess what…We call this a win. I for one look for the Dawgs to play them like this for awhile. Good for us, Having to play hard us hard as a gator, bad for them

Remember the old days when all GA fans talked about was how “boring” our offense was? Run, run, pass (but only if we need more than 5 yards for a first down). Ho hum. It’s amazing that all this week all us bloggers were begging for was to have that boring offense back. Well, like you said, Tony, our prayers were answered and it was beautiful to see!

Okay, we did keep a couple plays for the “new school” pass-oriented offense with those long bombs to MoMass and Mikey, and a little slot play with Sean Bailey. But it was just enough to complement the “old school” GA offense we’re known for.

I say, let’s keep this “old-school, new-school” hybrid and ride it all the way to the SEC Championship game!

JB:

I kinda figured that’s how FL fans would play it…”Our quarterback was injured…half our d-line was knocked out of the game…our best cornerback had a broken thumb..” Blah, blah, blah.

QB - when your quarterback is not only handling snaps but active in 70 percent of your plays, he’s going to get injured. That’s just basic probability math.

D-Line - when you play in the SEC where everyone is big and strong, hits hard and plays hard, guys are going to go down with injuries. That’s just the way it is when you play with the big boys. Don’t forget, we had two RBs sitting on the sidelines, our starting cornerback only played about one-half of the game (FL had two long completions as a result), and until this game, we had two linebackers limping around the field.

You can say what you want about the caliber of team we played, the off-week before the game, or any other excuse you want to use. But the injury excuse is lame. (no pun intended) We won because we had a better game plan, better execution and more emotion. GET OVER IT!

How much longer is Terence Moore going to be writing for the AJC? No commentators expected us to pull off this win…but at least after we did, all of them had something good to say…except, the typical garbage spewed by Moore…by pulling off this win, Coach Richt has placed himself back on a pedestal in the state of Georgia and given Dawg fans something to be proud of…you don’t like his tactics moore?…who cares! Thanks scooter11: Urban is a little mid western prick. I still say that spread offense will not work going forward in the SEC. They are sore losers. We have got to start beating them some more. They act like they were beat by Woffard. I’ll take CMR anyday over that guy. Urban calling CMR classless is a dumb statement. CMR is the King of class among SEC coach’s. To hell with Urban and Spurrier.

I don’t even want to hear the words “Auburn” or “Kentucky” yet. We played an incredible game against Florida and I’m proud of our team/coaches. However, we need to keep that intensity up in practice this week and on Saturday, or Troy can sneak up on us. Like Richt has been saying all weekend…one game at a time.

Did anyone else hear that? Tebow just got sacked again.

UT got stomped by Florida. UT got Stomped by Bama. UGA lost to South Carolina AT HOME! The beat Bama on the road, They beat Florida at a “neutral” site.UT beat what looks to be a pretty good Miss State team on the road. Then they beat the daylights out of S.Carolina (for a half)Then turned around and got it’s own rear kicked in the 2nd half. Man is this a weird season or what? Very hard to predict.Oh yea, I forgot that UT beat what looks to be a pretty good UGA team pretty bad at home.

Congrats to Georgia, and the team celebrating should be no big deal. 15 yards was worth it. Mark Richt is top notch, and a lot of us who pull for FSU would love to see him come back and take over for Bobby! The SEC east is just so tough, its sick! Very well could be a 3 loss team in the championship game this time. Hard to imagine Tennessee winning out, the way they were spanked by the Gators and the Tide.

All this talk of going to Atlanta is silly. Let me explain. Georgia has NO chance of winning the national title not matter what. If we win the SEC east and go to Atlanta, chances are we will lose to the nation’s no. 1 team, LSU. How does this help us in the polls? But let’s fantasize and say we win the SEC. We’re still not going to play for all the marbles in New Orleans, folks. That is reality. But if LSU wins the SEC, they will have a great shot at the title. So the best thing for Georgia would be for the Dawgs and Vols to win out, let the Vols take it on the chin in Atlanta, and UGA ends up 11-2 and ranked no. 5 at season’s end. That’s the best we can hope for…and that’s a pretty darn good stretch as it is. Besides, what would be wrong with ending up in the top 5?

By Urban...I told you so!

October 29, 2007 11:08 AM | Link to this

UGA won because Tebow was hurt? NO! UGA won because they kicked UF’s butt for 60 minutes. Everyone except the UF homers said that Tebow could not make it throught he SEC playing that style and we were right. In fact I think it is a minor miracle he made it this far. This is not just a “bad break injury”…there scheme made it happen and it will continue to happen in this league. If you want to claim the genuis of the scheme then accept the flaws which is you better have 2 or 3 QB’s and small receivers that are trying to play RB. If UF continues this scheme they will continue to look like world beaters for a few games and as injuries mount they will lose 2 to 4 games per year.

As much as I LOVED THE GATOR BEAT DOWN, this UGA team cannot compete with LSU (image their D line agianst our freshman O-line…yikes). UGA would be better served to win out…win a news day bowl and finish in the top 5 with a VERY young team. I would rather UT take the beat down in Atlanta and maybe phat phil will come back for another year if they make it to Atlanta!

The press is hot, cold on personal conduct. We don’t like Miami or FSU acting like thugs, but if it is our thugs it is Amy Vanderbilt manners to act like a jackass. Means do not matter as long as we have results. You are now opening the flood gates for the Florida teams to return to their gang bang days too and at the end of the day they are better at it than Georgia which actually has a conscience in these affairs. I am still awed at South Carolina. They showed more losing to Tennessee than many did this weekend in victory. You can’t ignore the gorilla in the SEC and trying to downplay South Carolina because of the performance in Knoxville is only wishing. Georgia will lose to Auburn or Kentucky, a three loss team will win the division, Steve Spurrier is a SEC contender. Hell if Georgia can beat Florida you don’t think South Carolina has even more of a chance and this is his third year there, he is just getting warmed up.

What a game! You have to give props to Florida and Tebow. He didn’t make excuses about his shoulder, although without the injury perhaps a different outcome. It proves you can’t have all your eggs in just one or two baskets, unfortunately where UGA will be if Moreno goes down.

I knew win or lose, after the intentional celebration this was going to be something to watch. The Vandy and UT games were just no fun due to lack of passion. Give credit to Richt for stirring the pot, although we could’ve done without the taunting which prompted the second personal foul.

It’s no debate to me the off-week UF consistently had for the Jax game since 91 has to have given them the edge in the 15 out of 17 run, at least in the few close ones (Not Spurrier’s 50 point rompings over Goff and Donnan). Looking at it the other way once again, take away the injured Tebow and a tough win by UF at UK the week before, and make UGA play that kind of game instead - hell yeah the outcome could’ve been different. The SEC is brutal. I’m glad UGA took advantage of it, though.

I checked out the schedule for next year (which is a bear, by the way - road trips to LSU and AZ ST), and both UF and UGA get no off week before Jax, so it will be even steven. Fair enough.

Thanks Gators for a well-fought game. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!!

A win is a win and we are thankful. But in reality the Gators didn’t have a healthy Tebow and that was huge. We did play physical and that was exciting to see. I do think the O line played better but in reality Moreno made some incredible runs on his own with very little help. He would make a 1 yard run into a 8 yard run and on and on. He was the difference maker. He is a playmaker and that is what we have needed for our vanila offense. In fact the defense needs a play maker and that is one of our weakness. They line up well and play assignments but we don’t have playmakers there as we have in the past. Florida had some holes to exploit and thankfully the missed them. Great win and an enjoyable weekend. Go DAWGS!

Xenophon is crazy. Why wouldn’t UGA want to play in the SEC Championship game? Because we’re scared of LSU? It seems like just a few years ago, LSU was supposed to spank us in that game, but I think UGA won. Hmmm, somebody check the 2005 SEC final standings. To be scared to play for the SECC is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on here, and that’s really saying something.

I, for one, am growing tired of hearing about Tebow being banged up and not 100% for this game (or any future game) ! Everyone has known from day 1 of the Meyer regieme that in THAT offense the QB is going to get HIT ! I’m just suprised that its taken this long into his sophomore season before the hits start to take its toll..so get use to Tebow or any other QB who runs that offense to take some major hits!….also what we have learned from this past weekend is that a MOTIVATED Dawg can play with ANYONE in the country!

I live in Jax and the local “official” gator radio station, 930 AM-Fox, as you would expect, was full of gators this morning calling us out on the “celebration” call. The morning HOST, David Lamm, wants Mark Richt, “suspended” for a game and fined by the SEC. Some gators are admitting that they had 55 min. to answer back. All Seminoles and Hurricanes (that I heard) think the call was fantastic! There are currently NO visual sign that any gators live in Jacksonville. No T-shirts, stupid hats, flags flying, NO national championship flip-flop shoes seen. You get the picture….

Agreed Hoof Hearted.

Xenophon is crazy. Why would you not at least want a shot at the title? That is the dumbest argument I have ever heard. Miss out on winning the SEC Championship just to finish ranked in the top 5…because a year from now everyone will remember the #5 team in the country and not the SEC Champion? Wow. That is some seriously flawed logic.

And another thing…

The Vandy V “incident” (which the media has totally blown out of proportion) and the Florida celebration are two TOTALLY different things. With Vandy, the Dawgs were celebrating with Coutu after he hit his first game winning field goal and given where he kicked the ball, the celebration simply migrated to midfield. It was not a conscious effort to disrepsect anyone.

In the Florida game it was a great move to get the team fired up (it was not Richt’s idea for them to run onto the field - he simply said celebrate enough to garner a penalty). The Dawgs sent the message that “hey, Florida you may be ranked higher, you may think you are better, you may have a heisman candidate but you are going to have to match our intensity to win this game.”

I have never seen Richt throw his headset like I have seen Meyer do on several occasions, including Saturday. Talk about that if you want to talk about “class.”

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz….I am already bored with this discussion. Lets move on. Troy will pose a bigger threat to Georgia than the paper Gators did. Heck, even Georgia Tech won’t cower to Georgia like the media darling pretty boy Gators. Oh, did we hurt their itty bitty feelings with excessive celebration? They had almost an entire football game to do something about it so its hard to feel sorry for them. Geez, we actually HELPED them by giving them 30 freakin’ yards. Its not like we were trying to take out their knees like South Carolina did to us (I’m still waiting on an indignant Terrance Moore column on that one).

Florida is SOFT. The defense is a laughable joke. Tebow will continue to battle injuries as long as Florida has no traditional running back. This ain’t the Mountain West coach. They better buckle up the chin straps for Vandy too. The Dores smell blood and have alot to play for.

As for Georgia, we have bigger fish to fry than Florida. This team has not proven it can deal with success. Auburn scares the hell out of me and neither Kentucky nor GT will lay down and play dead for us (like Florida did). Its a brandnew season. GO DAWGS!!!

This was a GREAT game for several reasons… (1) the intensity and emotion was back on defense (maybe someone lit a fire under Willie’s @$$ and told him his job was on the line, (2) preacher CMR finally showed some emotion (maybe someone lit a fire under him too), (3) the OL finally played a decent game, and (4) Moreno proved that to win in the SEC you’ve got to be able to run the ball— something this coaching staff has ignored way too long. Funny thing, if it were not for injuries Moreno would still be the #3 back (remember CMR said 3-4 weeks ago that Moreno was not ready yet). Shows want he knows. The Dawgs now control their own destiny. Play the remaining 4 games like they did on Saturday and a trip to Atlanta could happen and a very good bowl game will happen regardless. The next 4 games will show if Saturday was the real Dawgs or not.

I never complain out loud about the columnnists or commentaries…but the conspicuous absence of a favorable commentary (nearly 48 hrs later) on the biggest UGA victory since the 2005 SEC Championship game is absolutely pathetic. The one half-a$$ diatribe by Moore on the “foolishness” of the TD celebration was classless in its own right. Unbelievable!

I’m SICK of reading negative comments on the TD celebration. You know what? The DAWGS get penalized ANYWAY if they lift a freaking finger after a TD in the UGA-FL game! If they are going to get a penalty…then let’s get every freaking penny’s worth!!

If we can win out against Auburn and Kentucky, not only have we earned our way into the title game (I know we need some help from other teams), but LSU needs to be worried about us, not the other way around. Saturday’s game against Florida shows how good we can be, our dawgs just have to keep up that level of play and enthusiasm. True, we have no shot at the national title, but that doesn’t mean we should roll over so some other SEC team can play for the title. Let’s see how far they can go. Go Dawgs

This is a great article in the Orlando sentinel… i copied it for you guys…

Now, all those neophyte, nouveau riche Florida football fans know what this game is all about.

For almost two decades, they thought Florida-Georgia was simply about touchdown dances and end zone prances. They thought it was about winning conference titles and setting themselves up for national championships. They thought Jacksonville was a place where all their fantasies came true and that ‘G’ on Georgia’s helmet stood for “Godsend.”

Now, they know different. Finally, the rev is back in this rivalry.

At long last, the Georgia Bulldogs came to the “Cocktail Party” and served the Florida Gators a glass of humility, poured over cracked ice and broken dreams. Just like those Herschelesque days of yesteryear, the Bulldogs steamrolled Florida 42-30 and in the process crushed just about every goal the Gators hoped to attain this season.

The SEC title is all but gone.

Tim Tebow’s Heisman campaign is on life support.

And, no, Gator fans, a three-loss team cannot win the national title.

Asked how it felt to lose to Georgia, Tebow just shook his head, grimaced and nearly broke into tears.

“It hurts,” the UF sophomore said. “A lot.”

“This feels awful,” Florida Coach Urban Meyer said after his first loss to Georgia.

Hey, fellas, welcome to the real Florida-Georgia. Contrary to what you might have thought, this rivalry is not all gumdrops and lollipops.

Now you know what all those old-time Gators are talking about when they tell you those gruesome horror stories about losing to Georgia 75-0 and 51-0 and 44-0.

And now you know what it feels like to have your own version of “Fourth-and-Dumb.” Can you believe on fourth-and-2 from the Georgia 25 early in the fourth quarter, the Gators actually called a double reverse that resulted in a broken play and 3-yard loss?

And now you know what it feels like to see a red-and-black No. 24 running away from your defense. Except this No. 24 wasn’t named Lindsay Scott. He was named Knowshon Moreno, and he ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns Saturday. And somewhere legendary Georgia radio voice Larry Munson screamed hoarsely, “Run, Knowshon, Run.”

And now you know what it feels like to have your nose rubbed in it by the ‘Dogs. Like when Georgia scored its first touchdown Saturday and the entire team ran out on the field and danced and hugged and mocked you by doing your own Gator chomp.

The Georgia players were just doing what their coach, Mark Richt, told them. And what a brilliant motivational ploy it turned out to be. Florida had won 15 of the past 17 games against Georgia. The rivalry had grown stale and stagnant. The Bulldogs had become weak and worn-out.

It got so bad that in 1999 I was on the field when Vince Dooley, the Georgia athletic director and legendary former coach, shook his head and said disgustedly, “Let’s get on to the next millennium. I’m tired of the 1990s and watching Florida win all the time.”

It got so bad last year that even after Florida won by a touchdown, Meyer didn’t seem excited about the victory. It was as if the Gators had just barely beaten Georgia Southern with Meyer spending much of his postgame news conference complaining about his team’s poor play.

And that’s why Richt ordered his team to celebrate after the first touchdown Saturday, even if it meant getting a penalty. He wanted to change the culture, drum up some passion. “The definition of insanity,” Richt said afterward, “is that if you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll keep getting what you’ve been getting.

“We needed to try something new. I told the team two weeks ago that I was going to create enthusiasm whether they liked it or not. I told them if they didn’t get a celebration penalty after our first touchdown, they’d be running at 5:45 in the morning.”

Instead, they were running all over the Gators on Saturday, making Florida’s defenders look like ducks at a shooting gallery. Just touch ‘em and watch ‘em fall down.

Was that actually Florida’s defensive scheme or a grease fire?

Afterward, Florida’s players, some in tears, trudge off the field.

And Georgia’s mascot — UGA — wags his tail and slobbers on your hand.

“He’s a happy dog right now,” said Chris Seiler, UGA’s handler.

There’s a lot of happy ‘Dogs right now.

It’s about time

We must be reading two newspapers. I think AJC is very much a Georgia newspaper, and in this case my hats off to them. You will be hardpress to find anyone that doesn’t respect what Georgia did. Moore got a little silly yesterday but he spreads the love wherever he can get attention. The real test is can they keep it going against an Auburn team that brings it every week win or lose. I think the secret with Mississippi State is don’t play them at noon on Saturday.

What a joke for any Gator to talk about CMR or any dawg being classless. What about all the years of jokes about how bad Georgia was and how UF “owns Georgia” and all the classless and tasteless comments from Darth Visor when he was in Gainesville. I challenge anyone who saw a UGA/UF game in Jacksonville to name one classy Gator they ran into!

By the way, I think a three way tie with UGA/UF/UT at 5-3 would probably send the Dawgs to Atlanta because they would probably be ranked higher in BCS. Or are we not still doing that?

Just watched that Terrence Moore/Bill Hartmann exchange on the AJC video. Read TM’s words the other day but seeing him say the same thing I come to one conclusion: He probably lost a lot of money on that game. Evidenced by his attitude and the fact that his shirt looked like something he had to borrow.

If the team hadn’t of done that then TM would have been the first out of the gate with “same old Georgia” and “MR needs to go the way of John Cooper”.

One thing is for sure regarding the SEC CG, if don’t play in it you can’t win it. I would rather play in it and have a chance to win it than watch somebody else lose it. If you don’t please enroll in a substance abuse program or go back to the insane asylum.

First things first, Troy can be extremely tough to defend, Kentucky still has its RB’s and QB to defend and Auburn is Auburn, always tough no matter our records, only where we play as history indicates.

As a former Jax resident I can tell you first hand that David Lamb is a fat a$$ loser gator homer! Suspend Richt you have got to be kidding me! UGA got the penalty they desired plus some just because they were p** about the first celebration. They called 2 facemask penalties on us when the UF runner clearly commited a facemask during the stiff arm and a PF for doing the Gator Chomp to crowd…ridiculous. If you want to call it classless fine (I actually did not like it either) but UF had 51 minutes to do something about it and instead they got beat up some more and went home the losers that they are! JB, My son, who separated after 9 years in the Marines in July, has a Marine buddy who is a Gator. Believe it or not they watch all the games at my son’s house and do it amicably. After the game he turned to my son, and said “great game, your guys deserved that one”. Maybe it’s his Marine background but there are a FEW good Gators (pun intended). (Also, after the 46 yard pass was called back on the phantom “not enough men on the line” he said “man, that sucks, I hope the game doesn’t come down to that play”.)

I don’t recall Vince Dooley ever having to resort to such classless actions in order to motivate his team. So, I would disagree that Richt had the Dawgs playing GEORGIA football.

As one of the primary architects of the rules against excessive celebration, I would like to hear what Vince has to say about a UGA coach demonstrating a complete lack of sportsmanship.

Vince would have said, about damn time! Those Gators had this coming for a long time!

Do you not remember the 56 points in Athens- Throwing a TD pass with 1 minute left.

Do you not remember Spurrier announcing at his Redskins press conference he was going to make Dallas the Bulldogs of the NFL?

Since 1990 The University of Georgia has taken a back burner to the “Rivalry” and it was long over due that Fire be shown by this program. CMR has might ULITMATE respect for being gutsy enough to try and intimidate the defending national champs and getting away with it.

GEORGIA beat FLORIDA because the Gator’s defense is the worst coached, and least talented bunch of pretenders I’ve seen in 50 years. And yes, GEORGIA did take it to FLORIDA and played good ole SEC smash mouth football. My hat is off to all the GEORGIA players and coaches. Glad to see somebody remembers what football is all about. Forget the cutesy reverses inside the red zone. Run north and south and throw deep, gang tackle and wrap up and play tight man to man coverage in the secondary. The keys to success. AND have the desire to win at all costs.

OK Dawgs fans….you wanted to hear it, so hear it is…..what a great game!!! I was not offended at all by the celebration and thought it added to the game…and desperately added to this one sided rivalry.

I am old enough to remember when the saying was “Florida Always Chokes” I was there in 84 when we were ranked #1 and UGA beat us.

I have enjoyed every Spurrier victory and loved it when we ran up up the score to rub your nose in it….even though my Dog Buddies thought it was classless to do so.

What happened Saturday brought out the pulse and the passion of this rivalry….it was a great thing to see and I look forward to the Gators getting some revenge next year.

It is called unsportsmanlike conduct for a reason folks, Richt knew that going in, he fully expected a penalty for acting in an unsportsmanlike way. Dawg Fud and Hoof Heart, and the other “college educated” bloggers: listen up. I’ll make this real easy for you. THE BEST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN IS FOR LSU, GA AND THE VOLS TO WIN OUT. That SEC championship means more to LSU in that scenario because that means an SEC team has a bonafide shot at the national title. No matter what else happens, neither the Vols or Dawgs can even HOPE for a shot at the top spot. If GA gets a shot at the SEC title, then of course we want them to win. But without having to wish bad luck on anybody, my scenario is best for everyone concerned, especially the SEC as a whole. Splash your faces with water a few times and see if that helps. If not, then at least sober up before writing a blog here.

The SEC east is weak this year compared to previous years. LSU and Auburn dominant defense stats and have least points scored against them per game in SEC. There are three teams in the west TODAY who are better football teams (LSU, Auburn, Bama). Tenn(11th). SC(5TH), UGA, 4th(82 pts last 3 games), Kentucky(10th),and Florida(9th) have no productive defenses. LSU will win the west and the team in east who plays best defense last remaining conference games will be in Atlanta.

I heard several talking heads dissing CMR after the game for the celebration. Here’s my take on it — it could get old pretty quickly.

I don’t have a problem with it as a one time thing. This series is huge and Georgia needed to shake the psych-out from having such a long run of coming up on the short end of the stick. They knew they would pay a price and they paid it.

I don’t think they hurt anything by celebrating the way they did. You could say it was rude, but I don’t think that it rises to the level of unsportsmanlike conduct. Still, I wouldn’t want to see Coach Richt employing these sorts of tactics on a regular basis.

It’s a shame that celebration had to become a penalty in football. There’s nothing wrong with it when it is appropriate. It’s only because it can be abused that it had to be eliminated altogether.

It was a great SEC game. Congrats to the Dawgs.

I don’t pretend to have any idea who will show up in Atlanta, but it won’t surprise me if it is someone other than LSU. The way this season is going, nothing is certain. An Alabama-Tennessee rematch is a possibility, as is Georgia-Alabama. Auburn isn’t out of the picture. Kentucky could end up there with the right help. Point is, there’s just no telling. The way my Vols have been playing, it will take an act of God to win out for us, but, this season, that’s what may happen.

Funny seeing the Gator fans lecturing people about humility. Got a big dose of it yourselves last saturday, didn’t you, Gators? As far as the celebration goes, so what? Gator Chomp, running up the score on people, dancing around like morons on the sidelines….these are all things I have seen from the gator nation over the last 10-plus years, and I NEVER heard a gator complaining. As a matter of fact, all I heard from them was that it was OK, and that it was the other team’s responsibility to stop them. Well,we did just that. Congrats dawgs on your win. It was well earned. I will not whine about Tebow being banged up. He doesn’t play defense. We couldn’t get the georgia offense off the field. Richt pulled out all the stops to change the way georgia psychologically approached and played the game. That was a great move by him.
