There is no one else like Tim Tebow

Five things we learned over the weekend:

1. There is nobody else like Tim Tebow: I keep thinking this guy is going to get tired and start playing like a mere mortal, but every week he just puts Florida on his back and carries them. Last spring somebody suggested to coach Urban Meyer that the sophomore could win the Heisman Trophy. Meyer smiled as if to say “You’ve got to be kidding. He’s never started a game.” I thought the notion to be silly. I don’t think it’s silly any more.

2. Les Miles should buy a lottery ticket: Trailing Auburn 24-23 and with time running out, Miles let his team throw a pass from the Auburn 22-yard line. Demetrius Byrd caught the ball with one second left and LSU won 30-24. It worked and so Miles is a genius. But if Byrd bobbles the ball one time and doesn’t catch it the clock runs out and Miles would be having a very difficult week. LSU did not manage the clock properly at the end of that game but got away with it. If LSU runs the table and gets to the BCS title game, we will look back on that play as the pivotal moment of the season.

3. The Florida State situation is getting serious: Here are the facts. Florida State joined the ACC in 1992 and won 71 of its first 73 ACC games. After Saturday’s loss to Miami, the Seminoles have now dropped 10 of their last 14 ACC games. The offense is just a mess. New offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher was hired to clean up the problem but it is much worse than even he anticipated. Somehow Florida State, which produced two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks in the 1990s, does not have a quarterback.

4. Tennessee’s defense can’t be fixed: Coach Phillip Fulmer says what coaches have to say. He believes that by coaching harder and teaching more, this defense will get better. But there is only so much that coaching can do. The fact is that there has been a significant drop off in talent on the defensive side of the ball at Tennessee. There are no John Hendersons on the defensive line. I don’t see an Al Wilson at linebacker. Tennessee has good players but no difference makers on that side of the ball. Jonathon Hefney is not playing like an All-SEC defensive back because he’s surrounded by so much inexperience.

5. I can’t wait for LSU-Alabama: The boys at CBS couldn’t have drawn this one up better. LSU, after a narrow escape, goes to Alabama on Nov. 3 with first place in the SEC West on the line. LSU fans are mad because Nick Saban’s at Alabama. Saban got his first signature win against Tennessee and is looking for another one against a team that could be No. 2 or even No. 1 when the game is played. Both teams have this week off and so the hype in those two states has begun. Should be fun.

1- The wear and tear is finally beginning to show.He is tough as nails, but even Superman has his kryptonite…

2- They won, but it was a stupid call considering the clock. You’re correct: incomplete = loss and a whole lot of splaining to do.

3- Recruiting and academic standards have finally caught up to FSU.

4- The UT D didn’t look that bad against UGA, so what is the real problem ?

5- Another nail biter ? Maybe…

Even if LSU’s Byrd missed the catch in the end zone…there would have been time left on the clock. The replay showed he caught it at 3 seconds….that is why LSU had to kick off to Auburn to end the game…..Quit hating on Les and break off some respect to him!

Hey Mikey, EVERYONE looks good against UGAG! TN defense is puss! Nice game against Cal, FL and Bama. Even Ol Miss held FL to 28 pts. You point out one game out of 7 where TN actually looked like a real team. The rest of them, you were staggering as you crossed the finish line. In three of them, it was a TKO. Your offense is good, no doubt. But your defense is almost as bad as UGA…..almost.

It’s gonna be a long day for UGA in Jacksonville. Stafford is probably the 5th or 6th best QB in the SEC. I’d take Tebow, Ainge, Wilson, Cox and Flynn over Stafford. Seems to me that if you see a team doing well on offense (or defense), I’d look at what they are doing and pick up some pointers. Our D never blitzes and Stafford constantly overthrows our receivers. Ainge looked like he was laughing as he was throwing passes against our D the whole game. It seems that our opponents are playing with 18 x people on their defense and we are playing with 6. The rest of our season is down the tubes. Wait…are you saying that Vandy BEAT USC? Bama did WHAT to TN? Ol Miss held FL to HOW MANY POINTS? Mabe there is a chance for us……

Tebow is a serious stud. But the way he plays, he’s going to get banged up. Some RBs need to step up. Thus far, they haven’t (vote for your favorite UF win over UGA at www.gatoralert.com)

LSU is clearly the best team in the SEC. While Auburn lost to Miss. St. at the beginning of the season, they have come on strong to beat FL and should have beaten LSU. My SEC rankings (conference) are 1) LSU, 2) Auburn, 3) Florida, 4)Kentucky, 5)USC, 6)Bama, 7) TN, 8) UGA, 9) Vandy, 10) Arkansas, 11) Miss. State, 12) Ol Miss.

Tony, The FSU situation was serious back in 2003 when Chris Rix as a Junior started playing worse than when he was a freshman….Sadly, FSU chalked it up as a “Rix Issue” and everything got a pass. Then we had Drew come on…and he sucked as a freshman…and never progressed…then again we fell into the trap that if we had a new offensive staff things would get better.

The reason it hasn’t? Bobby Bowden is not a coach. He is a figurehead. It’s difficult to fire the man who’s statue is outside of the stadium and who’s name is on the field…but the time is come to bring in some enthusiasm and spark into this team.

The players accept defeat like it’s no big deal. The local paper minimilizes losses by running fewer stories on FSU football.

The situation is beyond serious by about 4 years.

Les Miles has a horseshoe up his arse.

Thank god for ESPN Classic. I guess I was reading too many Al web sites because I didn’t realize the game started at 9 until about 7:30.

I had an 8 o’clock drink on for a 9 o’clock game.

I woke up knowing we had lost but the details were very fuzzy.

  1. Great player, tired of hearing about him.

  2. Miles is either the dumbest person in the history of mankind or the luckiest SOB ever. Hard to call it lucky though since his decisions keep working out.

  3. No improvement during the season. When does the Bowden run end?

  4. They made GA look bad. They made ‘Bama look like world beaters. Inconsistent to say the least. Does Fulmer go at season’s end?

  5. Interesting game. I see LSU win. Can Saban pull one out of his butt against Miles? We will see.

When you’re up by one with 3:30 to go, what coach in his right mind calls for a squib kick? Tommy Tuberville of course.

When you’re down by one, just barely in field goal range with 10 seconds to go, what coach in his right mind calls for a pass to the end zone? Les Miles as we saw.

It was a reckless call, but it worked out for him. LSU should have never been allowed into that position in the first place, but mistakes by Auburn’s coaching staff allowed it to happen.

Tony, you forgot to add the #6. As in the #6 team in the country got shellacked this weekend. That would have been fitting eh? Couldn’t you at least mention the Vandy beat down of the OBC? You and everybody else seemd to ride us pretty hard last season and we weren’t ranked #6. Looks like SC football is back. Try recruiting with those comments you made about your players there SOS. It was all their fault correct? Coaching had nothing to do with it?

Tebow is awesome. The only person who compares to his skills is the Chase Daniels from Missouri in the Big 12. He doesn’t run as much or as hard as Tebow, but he is a much better passer. He should get alot of Heisman attention for the work he’s done this season.

I am a UGA alum and supporter in every way. I am also a realist. Yes anyone can beat anyone on a given Saturday which means UGA has a chance but believe me it is a VERY small chance! The match up is terrible for UGA. Teams with good quarterbacks and speed is a terrible match up for UGA especially against our D. Our defense against good teams maybe the worst in the league. Stafford can only take advantage of the poor UF secondary if he is upright…if the receivers get seperation…if he throws the deep ball accurately…if the receivers catch the ball and make big plays…none of which has happened YTD. I hope I eat my words I just don’t think even a week off will help Martinez. He has proven to lay an egg most of the time!

How do I get a job where my primary duty is criticizing people for doing a job that I have no idea how to do? When I lived in the Chicago area, the Tribune sports writers were brutal with their coaches, no matter what the sport. Now here in Atlanta it’s the same thing. I am a teacher and I have heard for years the saying Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach”. I think it is better written as “Those who can, coach. Those who can’t, become sports writers.”

Yeah Tony, where is the USC news? Guess what folks, there is no such thing as an upset anymore. This ain’t 5 years ago where you had a lot of separation between the top and bottom of conferences. The fact is last place and first place in the SEC east is about as close as 1st and 2nd was in 1998. I thought last years piling on by AJC hacks was unwarranted after the GA loss to Vandy and Kentucky. No one wants to give the other program credit. Class acts like Spurrier just like to bury his own players after a tough loss and not talk about the team across the field that just took it to ‘em. We need a playoff system more than ever now.

This year, you cannot expect any SEC team to play their best game week after week. Every team will play a poor game (esp. on the road) every now and then and lose when they are not supposed to lose…see S.C. last week. UT looked great against UGA, but poor against Bama. Bama looked poor against Ole Miss but great against UT. It comes and goes in cycles. That said, hope UGA is super fresh after their off week just like UT was before they played the dawgs. FL has played two tough games against LSU and KY, so maybe they are hurting a bit for next week. Hope so…Go Dawgs! Drive T-bag’s shoulder into the turf!!!

In all fairness to LSU, two seconds ran off the clock after the receiver caught the ball and was already lying on the grass in the endzone. Even if there had been a bobble and a drop, there would have been a second or two added to the clock after the play was reviewed. Regardless, that was one of the most brazen and gutsiest calls I’ve ever seen. I’ll give Miles credit, he’s fearless and plays to win. Maybe that’s how his seemingly inferior Ok. State teams were able to knock off some of Bob Stoop’s best Oklahoma teams in recent years. There’s a GATA mentality that should be emulated.

There’s no team I hate worse than Florida - even Tech doesn’t compare (maybe because I was raised in Florida and had to deal with those SOBs on a daily basis). But Tebow is something special. He might be the most dominant SEC player I’ve seen since Herschel himself, or at least since Bo Jackson. If there’s a more deserving Heisman winner this year, I haven’t seen him play.

In my opinion, Florida would be a middle-of-the-pack SEC team this year without him, and I think they would have been hard-pressed to win the conference and national title last year without the toughness and physical presence he brought to the offense.

Couldn’t he have gone to FSU?

Tebow is the kind of quarterback that suits most to Urban Meyer style of football. Even if Florida is a 2 loss time, I wouldn’t count them out of the National Championship run. Keeping in mind the topsy turvy season we’re witnessing and the kind of lobbying Urban Meyer did last year. With Tebow on board, Florida can bag plenty of ‘STYLE’ points. I hope he wins the Heisman.

Ed——No, FSU was not in the cards for Mr. Tebow. Apparently, he never even considered Saint Bobby’s Bandits. Tebow’s childhood idol and role model was Danny Wuerffel. Tebow is a lot more boisterous on the field, but he and Wuerffel twins in character off the field. Not really a good candidate for the ‘Noles.

Say what you will about Fla. and Tebow but that team and especially Tebow come out to play EVERY saturday!! Even in their 2 losses they played hard and just came up short to two VERY good football teams. Unlike UGA, who for the past season and a half, hardly ever shows up, and when they lose they look inept, overmatched, out coached, lost, and completely embarassed!! Their sophomore QB is twice as good as ours with half the experience!!

I’ve seen nothing that makes me think Georgia’s defense can slow down the Gators. Florida will score at a minimum 30-35 and it could go into the 50s. Tebow won’t run as much, just handoff and throw to Harbin, Murphy, Caldwell, etc. UGA needs a perfect day offensively to have any chance. Even when Georgia scores their kick coverage/strategy will let Florida start every drive at the 35-40 yard line.

Tebow is not just a qb. He’s a football player and a damn good one at that. Probably the best all around player in the country. I bet if you put him in the middle of a 4-3 defense he would be a team’s leading tackler. A real throw back to the days of Knute Rockne and leather helmets.

Les Miles has goat balls. Every week he makes decisions that put him in position to be the goat or be the man. LSU fans would have been upset and Corso would have second guessed the coaching if time had ran out, but ballzy calls give a team a chance to play for a national championship. Taking a knee with 1:16 to go in the first half to protect a 3 point lead does not give you a chance to play for the title. If you can’t hit it past the ladies tee box, you know how you have to play the hole. If that applied to football coaches, maybe UGA would play more aggressively.

I’m not sure what the excuse will be for UGA losing AGAIN to Fla.! I’m sure it will have something to do with being young/inexperienced. I seem to remember hearing that UF replaced 9 starters on defense? With a sophomore QB and Harvin is a sophomre and 9 new starters on defense it sounds to me like FLa. should be “young/inexperienced”. Wasn’t our excuse the same thing last year? A blogger talked about how tough it is to win on the road in the SEC. Dawgs beat Vandy which beat USC which beat Dawgs - wins were all by the road team. Dawgs beat Bama which beat UT which beat Dawgs - two of three wins by the road team. AU over FL, also on the road. Point taken, but not as big an advantage to the home team anymore. KY over LSU, and LSU over AU - squeaker wins by the home team. Don’t care about Ark, Missy St and Ole Miss, so none of their outcomes included.

1— Tebow on his worst day is still a better QB than Stafford. Tebow knows how to lead and carry a team and shows it on the field. The only thing I’ve seen Stafford carry is a keg.

2— Agree. Pivotal play of the season.

3— This will be Bowdens last year. Then FSU can hire CMR and UGA can get a real coach, not a CEO.

4— Tenneesee defense was good enough for UGA. Which shows you what kind of team UGA has. Answer- weak.

5— Alabama doesn’t have enough for LSU but could be a close game.

I like Tebow. I would love him if he weren’t a Gator. But let’s not front here, he’s only in the Heisman discussion because it’s the weakest field in many, many years. Certainly as far back as I can remember. That doesn’t mean he’s not great and doesn’t have a chance to go down as an SEC legend, but if there were more qualified candidates for the Heisman Tebow wouldn’t be talked about as a God-like figure.

PS. THERE IS A REASON WHY FLORIDA LOOKS LIKE A GIANT SCHLONG WHEN VIEWED FROM ORBIT — IT IS HIS DIVINE WILL THAT TIM TEBOW’S INFINITE VIRILITY BE EVIDENT TO ALL

Let’s see Mr. Tony. Tebow has lost 2 games. How does that warrant the big trophies. I suppose that you are all impressed with OHIO St too! Yeah they wore out Kent didn’t they. That powerhouse Mich State played them close.

LSU Les Miles, managed a W. That is what counts.

Fla State and Tenn both need new coaches. Bowden won all of those games with you know who as the O coordinator.

LSU/Alabama. We will see how John Pee Wee does against real D’s. My bet is that he gets big loss there and at Auburn and then all of you Satan worshipers, oh I mean Saban worshipers can shut your pie holes.

Tony, who is the winningest team in the SEC in the last 10 years, which team has finished in the Top 25 the last 10 years. Let’s not give Donnan and Richt any credit. Plus, they do have, do have tougher entrance standards than the rest of the conference. Check it out. We remember do you?

Funny comments about FSU, Atlanta Gator. It’s funny how all of you like to talk badly about FSU when the same AND worse has gone on in Hogtown. I know, I know it’s a great time to be a Gator but c’mon…you know what they say about those who live in glass houses…don’t you?

On the chop block of Dorsey, although the umpire was close in the TV picture, we do not know where his eyes were looking. As an official, I have had many times where I am right in front of something, yet looking at something else and I missed a call.

That said, I doubt it was intentional. If so that is just plain garbage and we have no pattern of dirty play by Auburn players in the Tuberville years.

chris, CTT said in the Birmingham paper they did not teach chop blocks and was sorry it happen. I hope Dorsey is back for Bama.

Tebow has got that size to go with his speed. The guy grew up in the jungles of South America, like Tarzan. His parents were missionaries. That has got to have something to do with his unbelievable physical talent. Miles looks like Lee Marvin on the sideline. Who is crazier him or SOS? His kids have got to love it. Like marines charging a beach. They come to win. Chan Gailey could take the same team and have lost at least four games by now. Two because he was so conservative, one because it didn’t matter anyway, and one more because his team was so depressed playing for him.

‘The invincible Jesus like Tebow’

What is sad here is the fact that Mr Tebow is a great guy. But the Florida Fans , uh a coach named after city plight, and the media have awared the title of Jesus Invincible to him. Unfortuantely he has fallen to actually believing in them and now you have the arrogance to go with it. But what is most assuring is he is not invincible and Jesus the real one is still in tact and the LSU and AUBURN FANS can rest assured they proved Mr Invincible is still a great person and very average like everyone else.

To the LSU fan’s that are defending Les Miles, he said in his postgame interview that they had 18 seconds and a time out left and felt like they had plenty of time to throw it in the end zone. When the ball was snapped there was a mere 8 seconds left on the clock. His luck will run out somewhere down the line versus Alabama, Arkansas or Florida. Ya’ll have had the best team in the league for 3 years now and keep losing 2 games a year thanks to his bone headed moves.

War Eagle, tough loss. I love stats don’t you? Denverdog went back 10 years and you then went back 8 years? LMAO! And none of that counts for crap this weekend or last weekend.

Gamecocks back to the future this weekend! SC where old coaches go to increase their retirement funds! Per Loser Holtz to SOS “Steve they pay you a lot of money and expect nothing in return but a couple of cute quips thrown at your opponents when you beat them once every 6 years”

And you think the BAMA fans were bad after the Georgia game…just wait because you haven’t seen anything yet! With the LSU fans coming into T Town with a big chip on their shoulders ie Saban, it might just become a major WAR! you might want to send in the National Guard.

I’ve got an idea for Mr. College Football. Let’s take JoPa, Fulmer, Bobby Bowden and Charlie Weiss and round robin them to each others’ schools. That way we can go ahead and keep those legends around while seeing what changes they actually implement. And the rest of us in college football land will have the time of our lives watching.

Hey Michigan Man,

I lived in SC for over 25 years, I dubbed that place the “graveyard of coaches” along time ago. Dietzel, Carlen, Bell, Morrison, Woods, Scott, Holtz, and now Darth Visor.

War Eagle, your math doesn’t add up unless we started playing 7.6 games a year. Oh yeah War Eagle, you do have good team this year. Roll on til Athens.

Go dogs, about 630 on Saturday, we will all know the answers. I guess the question about Florida Quartebacks, is who will be the next Chan Gailey, Tech is looking for him.

For the record, no one touched the lineman that chop blocked Dorsey. After the snap he went straight for his leg. I believe Coach TT when he says he doesn’t condone it. I’m just glad Dorsey wasn’t seriously injured, as he made the choice to come back this year, unlike alot of his peers.

Denver Dog, we are playing 7.6 SEC conference games a year, that was my stat SEC CONFERENCE GAMES last 8 years, Zoo, that was only stat I knew and of course you know me, I like to make Auburn look good.. I hope UGA plays good and wins against Gators, it will be a tough game. It seems UGA does not have any fire in them at times, but they will be ok. I hope Stafford will not conquer Auburn like he did last year, he tore us a new one!!

As a gator alum the best day was when Richt was hired by Georgia; FSU has never been the same since Richt stopped being the offensive coordinator/QB coach, and he is a prime example of the concept that everyone eventually rises to their level of incompetence. He may have been the best assistant coach in America (and I believe this to be true) but the skill set of an assistant coach does not always transfer to the necessities of a head coach. Gators 27 Georgia 13
