Georgia should be on upset alert

Just one man’s opinion:

1. Georgia had better be on upset alert: The only team that played as poorly as the Bulldogs last Saturday was Vanderbilt, which never had a chance at Auburn. The Commodores are having quarterback problems so Georgia should march in there and take care of business. But Vanderbilt knows it can play with Georgia after beating them in Athens last season and the Commodores are well coached. Georgia cannot be flat in this game.

2. Auburn at Arkansas is huge for Houston Nutt: The Razorbacks have gotten well the past two weeks against North Texas and Chattanooga. Now it’s time to play big boy football again. We’re nearing mid-October and the Hogs are 0-2 in the SEC. If Auburn goes into Fayetteville on Saturday and makes it 0-3, it is going to get ugly for Nutt.

3. Rich Brooks is worried-and he should be: South Carolina out muscled the Wildcats last Thursday night and now Kentucky (5-1), which was No. 8 in the nation just six days ago, has to play LSU and Florida on consecutive weeks. South Carolina showed the rest of the league that the game plan against Kentucky is to pressure quarterback Andre Woodson. And nobody brings pressure better than LSU.

4. If Florida State beats Wake Forest, look out: If the Seminoles (4-1, 1-1 ACC) win at Winston-Salem tonight, they will be 7-1 when they go to Boston College on Nov. 3. If Xavier Lee keeps playing well at quarterback-and that is a big if-the Seminoles will beat BC.

5. Ole Miss can beat Alabama: The Crimson Tide had to hold on to beat Houston last week and if Ole Miss can summon up another effort like they had against Florida on Sept. 22, Alabama may have to fight for their lives to get out of Oxford with a win. It’s always hard for Alabama not to look ahead to Tennessee, which comes to Tuscaloosa next week.

Ga fans are already on upset alert. We’ve been upset since the loss to that ole ball coach. We gave our promising dawgs a second chance against Tenn. and Pastor Richt and his crew of flunkies upset us again. We expect a lot from our teams b/c of recent SEC success in the past 5 yrs, and the top recruiting classes we get. So if Vandy wins, we’ll get to hear Panama Richt give us the ho-hum, “well they did a good of preparing against us speech”, and deflect the fact that he didn’t prepare our boys enough, and again, we will be upset. I am just glad I attended UGA during most of the glory years that lasted a whole 5 years.

Now prove us upset fans wrong Richt, and UPSET every damn team that’s left on our schedule

GO DAWGS!!!

1. Georgia had better be on upset alert I think the game will be tighter than expected, but UGA wins.

2. Auburn at Arkansas is huge for Houston Nutt: It’s already ugly for Nutt. Arkansas flat ran over Auburn last year and has the ability to do it again this year. It all depends on which AU team shows up: the Tigers that beat Florida or the Tigers that lost to Mississippi State. If the wrong one shows, it could get ugly for Tommy Tuberville too.

3. Rich Brooks is worried-and he should be: Worrying isn’t going to help. Unless LSU suffers a complete meltdown (not totally unheard of…), KY goes down again.

4. If Florida State beats Wake Forest, look out: I think FSU takes this one without too much difficulty.

5. Ole Miss can beat Alabama: Prior to last week’s UGA-UT game, I had a funny feeling about UT and I was right. I have that same funny feeling about Ole Miss this week. We’ll see…

I have predicted every UGA game correct this year, so its UGA 24- Vandy 13, Vandy will play better than last week , plus being at home, but not enough. Auburn=Arkansas winner will be the team with less turnovers, and consistent defense.Ole Miss will give Bama fans another miserable afternoon..

As for the Vandy game, I think it’ll be closer than their game with Auburn, but sounds like they have QB issues—and we know what those will bring you. UGA should be plenty motiviated for this one!

Tony, ole buddy, there is no such thing as upset alert for the Bulldogs. After last Satruday’s embarassing performance, I never give them better than a 50-50 chance. If a team cannot get motivated by playing at Neyland Stadium, well…Hope they decide to prove me wrong, but the memories of S. Carolina and UT linger.

UGA will continue to be on upset alert as long as Martinez is running the D. In the past three years there has been maybe 3 big games that the D has put forth a strong effort (‘07 none/’06 SC/’06 Auburn/’05 LSU). On the on-hand we have has many aweful efforts (‘07 SC/’07 UT/’06 UT/’06 Vandy/’06 UK,’06 VaTech,’05 UF/’05 AU/’05 WVa). We still won some games including the Va.Tech game listed above because the offense bailed them out by scoring over 30 points. We wonder why the O is less productive compared to the other SEC leaders who are “YOUNGER” than UGA and it is really simple…Martinez plays a bend and EVENTUALLY break defense that does not produce turnovers. The results is opponents consistently put up 12/15 play drives while our O and their D sits on the sidelines. Before Martinez our D stuffed almost everyone and we always had a chance to win even when the O was struggling. Now we ask a young OL, 5 star wide receivers who are below average under Eason, and an all world 5 star QB who is playing average at best to score 30+ a game to give us a chance to win…it won’t happen! It does not start with O it starts with D and our D has sucked under Martinez for several years!

If Richt refuses to fire Martinez for consistently trotting out aweful defenses he should at least hire EZ as the QB. EZ can teach Stafford what it takes to try win 50 to 45 every week beacuse the one sure thing EZ know during his playing days is that the UGA D was terrible!

As a University of Georgia graduate I have been privleged to see some extraordinary college football games. UGA won some of these games and lost a few along the way. Over the years I have come to the realization that I would prefer to see a team play its heart out and lose than watch a team that is not focused, dedicated or disciplined whether it wins or not. After all, the primary reason for watching these games is entertainment. Under no definition of entertainment would one find Georgia’s pathetic “performance” in Knoxville on Saturday. A stark contrast was seen last night in what was described as a ho-hum game between Navy and Pitt. Navy came out undermanned, undersized and understrength against Pitt who sports a former NFL head coach and two exceptional true freshman (quarterback and tailback). The game turned out to be one of the best non-SEC football games I have watched in a very long time. Both teams played sound, fundamental football and there were very few penalties or turnovers. It was so refereshing to watch the Navy players play their hearts out against a superior team yet handle their success with integrity. There were none of the standard “show boat” celebrations that we are routinely subjected to in college football, just good old fashioned hard-nosed football. I am certainly aware that a team like Navy will never have the “talent” that everyone talks about at Georgia, but one thing is clear to me, the Navy football team is well coached, highly disciplined and plays beyond its rather ordinary abilities. I hope Coach Richt taped last nights game so his players can see what real dedication and effort looks like.

Where in the hell is all of the size we used to have. By Proven DC & OC Anybody

October 11, 2007 9:01 PM | Link to this

Watching the FSU game you clearly see the impact proven coordiantors can have on a team. FSU was a dominate program until their coordinators started getting HC jobs. They made the mistake of replacing some of them with internal unproven position coaches like Jeff Bowden…well we all know how fast and far the program went down. Last year every analyst kept saying they did not have the talent or speed they once had. Bobby brings back in two big time assitants in Amato and a proven OC in Jimbo Fischer. These same slow untalented players will likely end up in the ACC title game! It got me to thinking how many big time programs have unproven coordinators???

UF - Nope

LSU - Nope

Texas - Nope

USC - Nope

Auburn - Nope

SC - Nope (even they have a big time D coord)

Bama - only on offense and how is that working out…not so good!

UT - Nope (they tried it with Sanders and boy that was a train wreck!

UGA - Both coorinators are unproven position coaches. I am still a Bobo supporter and hopefull he will buck the trend. Martinez on the other hand is Randy Sanders only worse because he handles the D. Unlike Bobo he has had several years to improve and has only gotten worse. He sucks and is costing players the opportunity to play at the next level. So when you bleeding heart liberals say “shut and support the team” think about what that really means. I think the best support Richt could give them is a cooridinator that coaches them up and puts them in schemes that allows them to make plays. Bend and eventually break is not “supporting the team” and because he sucks he is jepordizing these kids future!

Always next year is an idiot and a prime example of everything that is wrong with college football. Only four coaches in America—Four!—have won more games than Mark Richt has since arriving at Georgia—and only one in the SEC—Urban (Legend) Meyer. Richt has won 65 games in 6.5 years. In his first seven years Coach Dooley won 48 games. Whoever that guy is, he needs to go on over and pull for the Yellow Jackets or Tigers or anybody but the Dawgs….he’s not welcome in our nation!
