Stafford had “his moment” in T-Town
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Five things we learned over the weekend:
1. Matt Stafford had “his moment” T-Town: The true sign of a maturing quarterback is leading this team from behind on the road. David Greene had his first moment like that in Knoxville in 2001. We’ll look back on Georgia’s overtime win at Tuscaloosa as when we knew for sure that Matthew Stafford would be an elite quarterback. The Georgia sophomore took his team down the field in the final minutes against Alabama and put them in a position to win with a field goal. When that was missed, Stafford came right back in overtime and made a big-time throw to win the game. Stafford’s not fully developed as a quarterback yet, but he is getting there quickly.
2. Houston, you have a problem: It’s one thing to lose to Alabama at the buzzer on the road. It’s another thing to lose to Kentucky at home and not be able to slow the Wildcats down. You know the political climate in Arkansas since the Mitch Mustain saga. I was in Little Rock a week ago and a bunch of people I talked to weren’t happy then. They must be quite ill to be 0-2 in the league. Houston Nutt is a good football coach in a bad situation. On a side note: Running back Darren McFadden is the best offensive player in the country but his Heisman hopes have taken a big hit.
3. Tim Tebow can’t keep this up: The Florida quarterback is a special athlete. But he had to run the ball 27 times against Ole Miss to win what turned out to be a tough football game (30-24). I understand that. But I also understand that Tebow’s body can’t get pounded by SEC defenses week after week without taking its toll. The Gators get Auburn this Saturday and then have the game of the year on Oct. 6 at LSU. Coach Urban Meyer has to find another way. He knows that.
4. Andre Woodson must be to your Heisman list: The Kentucky quarterback throws a late touchdown bomb to beat Louisville on Sept. 15. Down 29-21 in the fourth quarter, Woodson directs Kentucky to 21 unanswered points and a stunning 42-29 victory at Arkansas. On the season Woodson has completed 86 of 134 passing attempts (64.2 percent) for 1,008 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has thrown NO interceptions. In fact, he has thrown 296 straight passes without an interception, a new NCAA record.
5. The Big Ten’s worst nightmare: Michigan, which knocked off Penn State on Saturday, wins the rest of its games and becomes the first team to go to the Rose Bowl after losing to Appalachian State.

I was glad to see Mikey Henderson get to be the hero on Saturday night. He has fought through injuries and kept fighting his way back into the lineup. He will be telling is grandkids about that night in Tuscaloosa one day, as will all those Dawgs who showed their metal this week. Also glad to see Coutu get taken off the hook for missing the winning field goal. He was taking it pretty hard. Go Dawgs!

Great win by the Dogs on Sat. I thought we would have some momentum coming off a big win but we looked sluggish the entire game. UGA took advantage of our weakness on the DL and they went after our DB who has been beaten all season by receivers. Nice road win for UGA. Hopefully we look a little more alive in Athens next season. Good luck the rest of he way.

Auburn fan here.
The UGA-UA game was a great game to watch. ‘Bama’s offense looked better than UGA’s offense, but UGA’s defense was better than ‘Bama’s defense. As they say, defense wins ball games.
Stafford and the UGA offense seemed to have a let down or lose focus in the late 3rd and 4th quarters. They’ll need to work on that.
Also in the SEC, the Gamecocks had a better than expected showing in Baton Rouge and Ole Miss played a great game against the defending National Champions.
It was a good weekend to watch football.

And as for picking GT, I thought they would rebound this week myself and win. As for my Dawgs they did play with intensity and heart and we saw what happened, now if they play this way the rest of the season they will be hard to beat as they are as talented as anybody in the country.

Tony - Please explain why you think Houston Nutt is a good football coach. He is the one who made the situation bad. How many times will his poor decisions and inability to develop any type of passing offense cost his team victories because the scribes wake up and realize that he is a “used car salesman” who sucks up well to the media? Come on Tony, you’re better than that aren’t you? Name one BCS school that could improve to the championship level with Nutt as head coach.

Florida better be careful or they’ll get tagged by Auburn this weekend. This sets up for an upset because the Gators will obviously be looking ahead to LSU next week. I agree that Tebow is on the verge of being hobbled if he gets hit by the wrong linebacker… Auburn’s got some snipers in their backfield and LSU’s defense is NFL caliber from top to bottom. FLA has at least one loss before Jacksonville. GO DAWGS!

great game bama!one of the best i have seen.nutt and fulmer are both on the hot seat this year.nutt might be in more trouble,as his enemys seem to be organized.tebow is a tough guy,i expect to see him at jax for the wlocp.running qbs actually take less punishment than pocket passers when the o line breaks down.on a”delivery sack” a qbs feet are still planted from making the throw, and he is still looking down field. he can’t get his cleats out of the turf before the hit,so takes the full force of the blow.i thought about michigan myself, they could go to the rose bowl with three losses, one being to app state.kind of takes some of the luster off, doesn’t it?as for stafford,he looked good, but can he be consistant?as a parent i can tell you that teenagers can be very mature at times and make you believe they have finally grown up,then do something utterly idiotic the very next day.

The Eds (Roswell and Another) bring up a valid point. If Georgia’s receivers learn to catch the ball (#86 comes to mind), this game would probably have looked totally different. Stafford has to shoulder some of the blame, but the bulk goes to the receiving corps.
Let’s hope the NMSU game restored some confidence to the Auburn team. Confidence and some inspired play-calling could go a long way this weekend in Gainesville.

Your team is moving in the right direction and you guys are going to win some games and be in contention.I think you beat FSU this week.Very possible you go 10-2 in Nick’s first year.Applewhite’s calling in the first may have been too conservative.Wilson played a good game.If the defensive backs turn around some coverage issues you guys will be in the thick of things. Great step forward for the Dawgs Saturday night in front of a very hostile crowd! Key word is step…if we build on this performance we could have a very good year. Overall great performance by players and coaches but we will have continue to grow up to beat UT in two weeks!

roswell ed,chandler{the te},was responsable for three drops against bama, and one or two against usc.i don’t know how much our wr coach has to do with the tes.i don’t see how we could fire our te coach,as he keeps sending players to the nfl.this is how we keep signing 4 star tes.we seem to have our wr rotation down now, with mo-mass,bailey and henderson.we will see some of durham,a tall wr,but a step slow.he does have good hands though.goodman will also see some action,we need his speed.he can make spectacular catches, but will drop an easy one now and then.his speed gives a dc headaches,if you cover him man on man he might blow right by the cb and catch the bomb.do you take that risk and load up the box to stop the run,or go two deep zone,or double up with a safety?a fast wr can stretch a d without catching anything,or even being thrown to,because you can’t have him 40 yards downfield running free.

Tony, we sure hope this was Stafford moment. Perfect pass when it had to be. I am with Buck. Kentucky looks scary this year. Never thought I would be saying that. My prediction is that Michigan will win the big ten and go to the Rose Bowl. No doubt there. Carr is off the Ambien now and in big ten schedule. Michigan State made ND look good Saturday.
Big Ten champ with 3 losses and ACC champ with 4+ losses (GT according to Tony). Blue Seat Bowl (a.k.a ACC Cahmpionship Game, will probably draw less people than last year. Of course they may follow Tech’s lead and start giving out free pizza, sodas, and parking passes to get the crowd in. If that doesn’t work they might have to call Big Boi out again.

cuz, once tebow learns that it doesn’t reflect on his manhood to slide or step out of bounds after a good gain instead of taking on a linebacker or safety he will be okay.when he gets hit right a couple of times he will get the message.BTW,most running qbs get hurt in the pocket, not when they are running.remember, mcnab was hit while in the pocket by the falcons.he missed the rest of the season, and has had injury problems since.former eagles qb,randall cunningham said that he was never hurt while running, each of his injurys happened when he was in the pocket.a player is much more likely to be hurt when his feet are planted.a pocket passer forced to scramble is a different story.he is not used to running with the ball and doesn’t know how to take the hit.tebow seems to know what he is doing, and gives the blow at the end of the run, instead of taking it.

To Jason Cyrus Ohanian,
How can Florida struggle with horrible Ole Miss team? Easily, we have a very young, inexperienced defense. I will even say that we may be a tad bit over ranked. But you obviously haven’t watched your horns struggle with Arkansas St. and UCF. Parity is here to stay in college football. The sad thing for the Big 12 is that the red river shootout is the only game to watch all year. The SEC produces classic games each week of the season.
Oh yeah….Oklahoma will punk texas this year. Which means your season is over in two weeks. That must suck.

Well my Dawgs by 12 prediction didn’t come to fruitition but the 3 point victory is sweet just the same. Great job Dawgs!
Admitted, Chandler dropped some passes that could have completely changed the outcome of the game but, he did pull through when it was on the line and mattered the most. Even though the field goal was missed, Chandler gave us an opportunity to win the game then and there.
I say lay off the young man and let the coaches coach. They decided it is he who they need there and there must be good reason. He is the starting tight end because he is good. Lord knows we’ve gone through many TEs and receivers in recent years who displayed the same faults and turned out to be saviors down the road.
Keep your head up Tripp. No shame in your performance. Every good tight end has gone through the same pitfalls at one point or another. You’ll get your chance

Roswell Ed and the other guy, yall need to realize that it’s NOT EASON’S FAULT FOR DROPPED FRIGGIN PASSES!!Tripp was in the perfect position to make those catches and HE(NOT EASON) made the mistake. Eason coached them so they would be in those positions and they and only they can make the play. As soon as dropped pass happens everybody wants to blame the coach and not the player. I should have pointed out earlier that Chandler does play the position very well. He handles his blocking assignments and pass routes the way they are drawn up. My bad. I like the way all of the receivers block and run routes right now. Mo-mass gets as jacked when he makes a great block as he does when he catchs a big ball!!
Overall, the staff and players have done a great job since the S.C game getting the bugs worked out.

It was a great win for UGA this past weekend, but the play calling still has issues. Ever since Richt came on board, if the dawgs have a small lead (7-10) in the 4th quarter the offense becomes so conservative, they let other teams back in the game. It happens so often, it is ridiculous. This does not occur with other top teams. That is why Florida, LSU, etc. typically win by large margins, because they never let up and give other teams a chance to get back in it.

Thanks for the heads up on youtube. Mighty impressive. You might also want to see the Caleb King videos.
But unlike you, I’m not ready to flush our receiving corps just yet. Sure we’re still seeing too many dropped passes on beautifully thrown balls but I see progression. Mo’Mass is maturing nicely. Hopefully Durham and Figgins will see more playing time and Chandler will work his demons out. I believe we have an excellent nucleus and a budding all time great leader in Stafford. The Cocks game was atrocious but the Bama game showed the poise and talent these Dawgs possess.
I know the season is a quarter of the way over, but I’m seeing this young group if not in contention for the east, certainly having a very big voice as to who will win it. We are going to be beating somebody and we’ll do it through the air or on the ground. I like these Dawgs.

I don’t believe you saw me accusing the coaches of not doing their job in relation to the receivers not catching the ball. I simply made a statement-GA. catches the ball better and that game is not close. For some reason this has been a problem dating back to the 90s when GA would have every chance to win against FLA, yet would drop the ball and fail to win.
GA. is a good team. They are not great, they are very good. I am not a GA. fan, I am a ‘Bama fan. I can tell you I would never pick against Richt on the road. As I said last week, Richt has them more focused on the road than at home. Period. They play better on the road. Maybe they should cancel all home games and go no the road! I was surprised Bobo didn’t look for Goodman after last weeks performance. I thought Bama was vulnerable to the long ball and Goodman could have been a solid go to target. Close all practices and have success on Saturdays… The pass at the end was very high risk considering MS’s erratic arm, whoever catches the ball wins… TC should practice with mittens on this week then run the stadium steps an hour for putting his team in that situation… All teams in the SEC are for real even O’Miss, the Vandy and Kentucky losses were no flukes last year and they will be out to prove it … hunker down

Enough of the false hype. I know you guys hate Stewart Mandel’s candor, but he said it best after Uga’s victory:
Yet for most of the night, Stafford looked as erratic and unimpressive as he did two weeks earlier against South Carolina (whose offense has its own issues), going 19-of-35 for 221 yards, two TDs and two picks. It looked like the Dawgs might have to win in spite of him.

There are times and teams where the youth and inexperience step up right out of the gate and impress the hell out of everybody. Unfortunately that hasn’t happened with this squad. But thats okay, They’re showing steady signs of improvement that usually only come with game experience. The level of talent is obvious and it appears will only get better next year.
I thought at the beginning of the year a 10-11 win season was serious pie in the sky dreams and I still do. But I’m cheering and hoping. The Dawgs are in the East hunt and can inflict some damage on other teams. My point here is: while our talented yet inexperienced youth seem to be coming of age slowly, we still have a ways to go. They’re shaping up for some exciting football.
I believe as the year progresses we’ll see some more of Goodman, Durham and Figgins. I still do not see us winning 10 games but the ones we lose is going to be some great football on the way to very high expectations next year.
There have been few displays of greatness from the Dawgs thus far but I earnestly believe more is coming this year.
You are right about both Green and Jones. Very impressive. I hope they carry it on over to Athens

Stafford is the SECOND COMING again. Wasn’t it a week ago he was a no talent hack?
He’ll lay another egg this season, and you will be off his bandwagon again.
Then, he’ll have a good game, and he’ll be the greatest again.

If you all think throwing 2 interceptions (while not being pressured at all) and being a decent game by John Parker Wilson away from loosing to an overmatched Alabama team is proff Stafford will be a special quarterback then good for you but i think your crazy.

Shane you said- “as i stated earlier, untill ward gets healthy and proves himself, chandler is the best we have.” First off from on field play Chandler is not our best TE as he has dropped at least 2 passes in critical situations in each of our 4 games so far. At this point IMHO Figgins even though he is a true freshman has been our best TE. If you watch Moreno’s TD run in the 3rd quarter you will see that Figgins made the key block that broke that play open. He actually is a better blocker than Tripp plus he has shown that he can get open and he catches the ball. Having said this I hope that Tripp gets his problems with the dropped passes straightened out otherwise he deserves to be benched. As to your question about who our TE coach is that would be Coach Dave Johnson who has done a great job since he has been at Georgia and I can tell you he is at a loss as to why his TE’s have started dropping the ball. Prior to last year they would drop one occasionally but not like Martrez Milner and now Tripp Chandler this year. Anyway overall our receivers have been doing a better job of catching the ball so far this year and with more work, Stafford and this core group i.e. Bailey, Mo’Mass, and Henderson will start to click on all throws both the short and long ones. As our OL matures and gets more PT with each other our offense will get more dangerous and consistant.

Are you kidding me? Do you really think one game makes Stafford an elite quarterback? The very thought of comparing him to David Greene makes me shiver because Greene was such a consistent winner and someone who seldom made mistakes. I’ll admit the receiving core made quite a few drops during the game and that Stafford looked better, but up to this point I still do not think he is in the elite class or anywhere close. I’d be happy with seeing an average play caller who minimizes his mistakes and give his team a chance to win. He’s not there yet, too many forced passes and failure to check it down the the 3rd or 4th receiver.

Observations about the above:
Bama fans have my respect. Courteous in defeat, both in person after the game and on the internet. No bad blood here.
Tebow will not win the Heisman. He won’t even be First-Team All-SEC. The Heisman will go to Andre Woodson if UK wins nine or more games, and he’s nearly halfway there now. If the Wildcats beat the Gators in October (and it could happen—the game’s in Lexington), it’ll be his to lose. Don’ t think he doesn’t know that.
Urban Meyer’s offense is predicated upon the QB running the ball, but I don’t think he anticipated being forced to having Tebow carry the load in this fashion against SEC defenses week after week. He’s one Jasper Brinkley hit away from being laid up. And that will hurt Florida’s chances in the SEC tremendously.
Anyone who assumes Georgia will have an easy time in ANY SEC contest doesn’t understand SEC football. Any team can beat any other team any week. That’s why the conference is so strong—there are no gimmes on the schedule. It’s more true now than ever before. The Dawgs need to be ready on Saturday.
Stafford’s a young QB. He’s started 12 games in the toughest defensive league in the country (and has gone 9-3 during those games). He’s going to make a few bad throws, and a few poor decisions, but everyone here’s equating him with David Greene (who was a REDSHIRT freshman his first year out) and DJ Shockley (who was a fifth-year senior when he finally started). QB is a position that requires intellect, physical talent and experience. Matt has the first two already. He’s getting the third as he goes along. If he had not come in with all of the hype, people would be marvelling at how poised he is. But folks expect too much at this stage. Like most sophomores, he’ll be alternately brilliant and boneheaded. But I predict that the former will supersede the latter by an order of magnitude by next season. He’s already light years ahead of where he was last season. Have a little faith.

I don’t think I am ready to start singing the praises of Stafford just yet. I believe he will make an outstanding QB but I also know it will take game experience. This weekend was a great opportunity for him to establish himself as a leader. He wasn’t consistently sharp but showed great poise toward the end of the game. His td pass in OT was beautiful. I feel all UGA’s young guys benefited from the road atmosphere. It should be a stepping stone for them. My thing is, I want to see Knowshon carry the ball 25 times per game. He is amazing and what I love is his fire and intensity. I really like Thomas Brown and admire his work ethic but Knowshon is a spark plug. When the opposing fans start to hate him, that is when you know you have something special! I still have my gripes about the play calling. The final call in OT was ballsy but what I like to see. I do not understand why UGA is so persistent on trying to run the ball up the middle. We have young O-lineman. It hasn’t been successfully working. Pitch the ball and let the backs turn the corner. They end up having to bounce outside anyway so why not let them get going full steam ahead. I couldn’t understand why at the end of the game when the clock needed to be killed, why they decided to pitch the ball to the short side of the field. It is almost inevitible for Brown to be knocked out of bounds. I also hate the fact of this conservative “lets just kill the clock and not worry about any more points” approach. You can almost bet if we have the ball with less than 3 min in the half or fourth quarter, we start running dives up the middle and have to end up punting the ball away and asking the D to hold. Where is the “cut throat” mentality? I’m not saying to try and embarass people (well some) but make a statement. I wish Richt had Tiger Woods’ mentality. The stress almost kills me. Can we just have a game where we “finish the drill” and have people intimidated and put away? One other thing, Coutu did miss a very important one. I am not happy he missed it because I really like hi. However, I did like the lesson taught of “we need to not always rely on a for sure 3 points.” I feel like Georgia does not 100% focus on scoring a td because they feel like they will get a field goal out of it anyway. I love my DAWGS but was wondering if any of you felt this way about any of what I’ve said

Heeldawg Well said!
Bulldogfan78 and Cornell WHO said elite? He is a good quarterback at this stage of his college career. I personally haven’t compared him to anybody muchless David Greene. But I will state this: Stafford is much better of a quarterback at this point than Greene was at this point.
A quarterback on any team is only as good as the team mates around him. The young dogs are getting there. YES I state that emphatically after one good win at Bama. If you don’t see the potential of Stafford, your not only blind, but you don’t know squat about SEC football

everyone is making it seem like all our receivers were dropping balls. that was not the case. besides one drop by mikey moore or sean bailey (i forgot which one dropped it), our receivers made plays. tripp chandler is the one that screwed us over. if he dropped that pass to set up coutu’s missed FG at the end of regulation, he might have lost his scholarship when he got back to athens. he dropped 4 passes alone. there is no excuse for that many drops by one player. we did better when we started bruce figgins against OK state.

If the receivers catch more of the passes laid in their hands by Stafford, our game lives are made easier, Stafford’s stats look a lot better, and Stafford’s youthful mistakes don’t look so glaring. He is gaining more poise, as is this young team. A conference win on the road under tough conditions is a plus to gaining maturity. That said, I hate the stupid penalties, and we need to play to win instead of playing not to lose. Run up the score on somebody, anybody, so I can relax in the 4th quarter. I’m old, and need a break.

Great game DAWGS!! While I was not personally in the stadium Saturday night, me and a group of friends were watching on TV in a local restaurant (couldn’t get tickets for less than $150 each). What a blast we had, trading cheers with our opponents fans, etc. I have to say, the majority of the Alabama fans we encountered showed great class, and sought us out of the mainly Bama crowd to offer congratulations and warn us about next year. Sure, there were some fans that lacked class and taste, but for the most part the Bama fans were nothing short of a class act. I like to believe that had the roles been reversed, that most DAWGS fans would have shown them the same courtesy. GO DAWGS!!!!!

stafford is not nearly as sharp as he was at the end of last season.hopefully, the big win saturday will settle him down.
he seems to be more comfortable under center than in a shotgun formation. the three step drop and firing, he usually is on target.
i know he was in shotgun for the winning TD saturday but he had only one option. when, theree more options he tends to become unsure!
he has a world of talent and he is still very young.
great win for the dawgs and the o/line played great.

Here’s an interesting observation, of this blog, not necessarily of a certain team. Wit a few Dawg disappointments under your belt, I like the flavor of the AJC College Football blogs now. It seems to have culled out the moronic bandwagon folks, leaving (with some notable exceptions) some thoughtful, rational and ACTUAL football fans posting here.

Great win for the Dawgs! It was honestly one of the most dramatic and exciting games I’ve ever seen, and although we made mistakes, the players made the plays when it was critical. On the Stafford note, I’m not ready to crown him Herschel II yet, but he shook off those picks and put Georgia in a position to win the game in regulation.
The recievers played very well too. Other than a few drops (no team doesn’t drop passes) everyone played well, especially MoMass. Chandler played horribly, but he’ll come around. Remember, Leonard Pope went through this stage too.
Lastly, hats off to the Bama fans. Other than a few obnoxious jerks (including someone who elbowed me and my friend as we walked to our cars- silently, y’all were classy and gracious in defeat. The Bear would’ve been proud. As for the cup throwing, that would happen in any SEC stadium after a loss like that. Actually, it’d been weird for that not to happen, to tell the truth.

Stafford is an average QB
I ‘ll stay away from the redherring and respectfully disagree with you and them. Stafford was impressive as a QB last Saturday. He showed skill and poise not seen since last year. Look, other than the two interceptions (which were bonehead) did Staffords play stall the drive? More important than his play was his leadership on the field.
The dawgs are at the beginning stage of “jelling” with one another. Absolutely he is surrounded with bigtime recruits. John Parker Wilson is too as is most every team in the SEC. I failed to understand your point there.
Rarely did Stafford make a bad throw, when he did it was intercepted. I believe he will be the QB to watch not only the next two years but the rest of this year as well. He didn’t really come into his own until late in the season as a freshman. I had my doubts earlier about him this year but Saturday he answered those.
Stafford did everything he could do as a QB to win that game and he did. He’s coming around and when he’s there sometime in the next few games you can said you heard it here and from me. If he doesn’t I’ll be here to admit it.

I am sure CMR is happy to know that if he ever does need a new OC and wants to replace Bobo, apparently there is a pool of talented coaches available here on this board. Just imagining demand for season tickets soaring after “John” is named new coordinator. Oh, and I would not trade Coutu for any other kicker in our league. The guy is about as automatic as an unpaid 20 year old can be in 40 mph winds with 90,000 rednecks screaming at you.
Glad for Stafford and Henderson. As much grief as the QB and receivers have taken, they delievered on that play, and I think they can use this to build upon. Now, if our TE can only get in the lessons…

Why are many sports writers and commentators so fixated on the fact that Tim Tebow’s body can’t take all these hits, therefore he can’t continue to run the ball so often? Tebow is doing what he has done his entire football career and he has never missed a game due to injury. True, the SEC defenses are fearsome, but I have yet to see the look of fear in Tebow’s eyes. Let the thoroughbred run. You say that Meyer knows he has to find another way, yet he called Tebow’s number on 27 running plays last week.

Hey, “Saywhat?”:
Stafford is four games in to his sophmore year… His REAL sophmore year. Two years ago, this kid was hanging out at a Dallas Dairy Queen, sneaking in to movies and dating 17 year old girls. Most superstars are made through great moments, and Stafford took his first step Saturday night. I agree that he has a long way to go, which is why Tony B said he is a “maturing” QB who is not there yet, but he is “getting there.” I agree with Tony, he took a leap forward Saturday, but all that will be for nothing if he doesn’t show us some maturity this week and beat the Rebs.

Lets just remember how many more yards he would have thrown for if the receivers would have made the catch. He has shown us all that he has the tools to be the kind of QB to lead this team to do something really great and by that I do mean NATIONAL CHAMPIONS !!!!! but there is a lot more work to do. I’m a Bama fan, but UGA or Stafford, whom I am both fans of also, should not be put on a pedestal for the win against Bama. Bama is very mediocre due to previous sub-par recruiting. And the fact that the dawgs had to go overtime to beat them shows what a serious flaw they have in their team right now. They have twice as much talent and speed than Bama, and it should not have gone to overtime against such a sub standard team. They will lose at least 2 more games this year, as will Bama. Bama will probably lose 4 more games this year.

I’ve enjoyed reading the posts about Stafford. I think Tony nailed it. After the game Stafford was the one who was mad at himself about the two pic’s. Everybody has their chance to speak out because that’s what these blogs are for. MS has been mishandled by the indecision of the Coaching staff since he was pulled fro co-3rd string to running the show. So I’ll continue to pay attention to anti Stafford post when someone sounds as if they have some knowledge, ignore the dumb ones and stick with my QB. The team, according to what they say, look to him as the leader of the Dawgs in ‘07. They practice, play and listen to him and since they are there getting dirty wit h’m, think I’ll stay and watch as he just continues on. He’s not allowed to run the ball but compare our run production from last year when he ran to what we average this season you may be suprised. One thing for sure, throwing a pic doesn’t cause him to lose his composure, he just throws a TD to make up for it. He coming right along.

To all the Bulldog faithfull, it was a great win for us, it was a must win for us! But Lets not get ahead of ourselves. We had moments of brilliance and we had moments of absolute humility. Here is how I see it:
Good News : Matthew Stafford is progressing nicely, he looked very crisp on Sat unlike the South Carolina Game, with the exception of the two picks he really had a great game. The defense stayed in the backfield most of the game while only rushing 3 or 4.The O-line is playing way better than they should for 3 true freshmen. We have big play makers in Moreno , Bailey, Southerland, and M.Henderson.
Bad News: Matthew Stafford has to stop turning the ball over or we will not beat Tenn or Fla. Coutou, while great, is starting to miss field goals ( SC and Alabama Games)This should be the biggest concern for everyone. With a young football team you cannot afford to miss those opportunities. If he makes all of them against SC, we win even with all of the missed touchdown opportunities. If he made the two that he misses against Alabama,we dont go in to overtime and we win! I am extra hard on him becuase we dont have the option for him to keep missing. I expect us to be in both the Tenn and Fla games and field goals are crucial. 8 penalties in the Alabama game. This has to stop!
That being said, I am still very optomistic about this season. We will be ready for Ole Miss this weekend and handle our buisness. I think we line up well with Tenn, their defense is giving up alot of points and their running game is almost a non-factor. If our front four can get pressure on Ainge, we will have a great chance to win the football game. I cant predict any farther than this because of the unknown (ie: injuries (Havercamp etc…)but i will say this. If we roll in to Jacksonville 6-1, Florida better watch out!

Kentucky is a ranked team. first sign of the apocolypse. the sec continues too get stronger.if the trojans were in the sec, they would have at least two losses. you look at the top 25 polls and they are littered with sec teams. and yet, corso and the rest of ESPN refuses to take us seriously. what will it take? the sec championship game being a prelude to the national championship game? GO DAWGS!
