Forecasting a Hokies win
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Here are this week’s picks in the Fearless Friday Forecast:
Georgia Tech will lead Virginia Tech at halftime. Then the Hokies will score a defensive touchdown or a special teams touchdown in the second half to take control of the game. Virginia Tech 17, Georgia Tech 10.
Houston and its high-flying passing attack will be competitive for a half against Miami. The Hurricanes will win the game by double digits but the Miami fans will continue to be mad and call for Larry Coker’s head. Miami 31, Houston 17.
Iowa will lead No. 1 Ohio State going into the fourth quarter at Kinnick Stadium. But then the Buckeyes will intercept a Drew Tate pass and quarterback Troy Smith will make a play that gets on SportsCenter for the second consecutive week. Ohio State 24, Iowa 21.
The blitzes that Alabama defensive coordinator Joe Kines used against Arkansas freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain won’t be as effective against Florida senior Chris Leak. Leak will beat at least one of those blitzes for a touchdown as the Gators beat Bama (28-14) and move to 5-0. Some Florida fans will still want freshman Tim Tebow to be the starting quarterback.
Since Virginia and Duke face each other, one will pick up their only ACC win of the season. The loser will go 0-8 in the league. We like Virginia in an ugly game 14-7.

Hey Tony, if Calvin Johnson can not play or is not 100%, GATech doesn’t have a prayer. I’ll say VaTech wins 27-13. Fla will lay a whoopin’ on Bama 31-7, Ohio State will win at Iowa, 20-10. As for Houston/Miami and Duke/UVa…who cares?

South Carolina whipped our butt last night. Gotta give em credit. I’m just glad that QB is a senior. Don’t want to face him again next year. Lucky for the Dogs they only had to beat that skinny white boy.

I don’t know Tony, if Leak has ANY kinda problem against Bama we will see Tebow in a heart beat and he will be throwing this time too.

gdawg in the zoo: you won’t see Tebow if Leak struggles, but you’ll see Tebow anyway. Leak is one of the best in the country and you can’t pull a player like that if he struggles in a series.
Urban has two offenses; one with each QB making the Gators tough to defend. But any switch in QB won’t be because Leak struggles…not in a game with this magnitude. It’ll just be a change in offense.
As you have seen with Stafford, it’s very hard to win with a true frosh at QB. Personally, I would like to have Leak in the entire game.

Leak is one of the best in the country and you can’t pull a player like that if he struggles in a series. I agree with you 100% right there. Always have thought Leak was a class guy and excellent player who should have had a much better college career (the one he has has been pretty damn good too) if not for all the coaching changes and controversy while he was there.

Tony,
This isn’t your father’s Jackets. This program has turned the corner. New, more innovative offense. Better special teams. Better recruiting. Better attitude and confidence. They’ve already forgot about yesterday and are focused on Maryland.

Tony, Your pick against GT was surprising for someone so knowledgeable of college football. Virgina Tech’schedule prior to GT was a joke. They were obviously rated so high in the polls based strictly on what they had accomplished the last couple of years (just like the ajc’s beloved dawgs). The Jackets have a good team. They are not where they need to be just yet, but picking agsinst them in ANY game the rest of the year is going to be risky.

Seriously. This was expert forcasting? One out of Five is pretty sorry…
Keep picking against Tech though, Barnyard. We appreciate the underdog role.

I predict Tony’s bonehead analysis will be worthless again next week.
Do you get paid to be that wrong?

Suprise suprise, Tony picking against Tech and of course picking UGA to win big. And wow, Tony went to UGA, imagine that. If UGA was 0-5 he would still pick them to win the SEC. Tony you are an idiot. You are just as bad as the trash that calls themselves Georgia fans. Do me a favor Tony, go write for the Athens paper, get off TV, and go find yourself something to do besides think about David and David playing pee-wee ball together.

GT does the improbable and begins to look like a team of destiny. The ball was bouncing the right way on Saturday. The defense is outstanding. Ask ND?

Tony, we always knew that you paid attention to SEC football more than anything else. You nailed the SEC game. Great call. Eventhough the Tebow comment was obvious.
After all the SEC is really all that matters.

Barnhart & Shultz’s picks this weekend were great! These guys can’t write either, I’m not sure how they are employed by a large newspaper.

One comment, to “JZ”: Where in the world do you see Tony say anything about UGA?? Am I missing something here????
