Surface street delays kick off Halloween commute

The early goblins of Halloween traffic have begun appearing on surface streets on Atlanta’s south side. Most interstates are flowing freely, including I-85 in Gwinnett, where a tractor-trailer crash had closed southbound lanes earlier.

An accident at Old National Highway and Ga. 138 has all lanes blocked, according to Georgia Navigator, and the intersection is not expected to be cleared until 7 p.m.

Downed power lines near Jonesboro, at northbound Ga. 138 and Ga. 314, were expected to block the two right lanes of Ga. 138 until 5 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation projects that evening rush hour will begin up to two hours early today as parents head home to prepare children for Halloween trick-or-treating.
