Did you enjoy Braves’ New York weekend?

The best news to come out of this weekend’s series in New York: The Braves won’t carry that ridiculous one-run road losing skid into next season.

Braves fans are looking to next year, and I really didn’t want to see that losing streak hanging over them at the start of a new season. That demon needed to be exorcised, so insert a big collective sigh of relief here that it ended at 29 losses with the 3-2 win over the Mets on Saturday.

It was also great to see the grit and spirit the team showed in rallying late to win Saturday and in coming back with five in the ninth to win Sunday. And then there was Chipper and his farewell gesture to Shea. He went 3-for-5 to close out his run at the stadium he likes so much he named his son after it, raising his average to .365 (five points ahead of the Cardinals’ Albert Pujols).

“It’s always pretty cool, always exciting,” Chipper told Dave O’Brien about the batting race. “But it would make it easier if you had something to play for. Not being in the hunt for the playoffs kind of takes the fun out of it.”

The fun may not be there, but at least it gives us fans something positive to think about. And no matter what else is going on, it’s always good to win a series in New York.

So what was your favorite part of the weekend? The one-run road win or Chipper’s big Sunday? The five-run ninth in the finale? Mike Hampton’s two double-play grounders on Saturday? The fact that Johan Santana has never beaten the Braves?

Or maybe just that the team isn’t so hard to watch these days? Following that 4-17 slide, they’ve now won eight of their past 12 games. Here’s hoping they can keep that up and head into the offseason with some momentum to carry into spring training. Ah, spring training …
