What was the best/worst of the first half?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It was great to see the Braves end the first half of the season on such a high note, routing the Padres 12-3 behind another strong outing from Jorge Campillo and the bullpen. Even better, they did it on the road — winning only their third road series of the year.
They went 3-3 on this trip — not bad, considering how they’ve fared away from the Ted this year — but once again, it was feast or famine at the plate. They scored nine-plus runs twice and plated one run or fewer three times.
But the All-Star break is a time to regroup, take stock of where the team stands and give the guys who are banged up some time off.
So let’s talk about this season’s surprises: What’s been your favorite unexpected storyline of the year? The fact that Campillo, Jair Jurrjens and Jo-Jo Reyes (and recently Charlie Morton) stepped up and brought order to the chaos that was the starting rotation? Or that despite all the injuries, the bullpen is third in the NL with a 3.22 ERA? Or maybe Chipper flirting with .400 for so long?
On the other side of things, there was Jeff Francoeur and his horrific struggles at the plate (he’s 5-for-21 since his short stint in Mississippi, but his swings and his approach are promising) and the Braves’ inability to win on the road (they’re 14-32).
What stands out to you about this season? How about around the rest of the Majors? Are the Rays the most shocking thing about this year to you, or is it that the Marlins are five games over .500 at the break?
As for the All-Star Game itself, are you planning to watch Chipper and Brian McCann at Yankee Stadium? I used to really enjoy the Midsummer Classic, but it’s lost some of its luster for me.
Maybe that’s because the rule giving the winning league home-field advantage in the World Series is just asinine. Although, I could be biased since the NL hasn’t won since 1996, when John Smoltz got the win in Chipper’s first All-Star Game.

Rays are fading. Mets are surging. Marlins are better than Braves. Braves’ starters are pretty good. Rest of the lineup is spotty at best. Worst outfield in a long time. They’ll lose 90 games. Finish where they are. It’ll be interesting to see how Hampton gets hurt again or shelled when he takes the mound.

Lowest point of this season: The realization that we have possibly watched John Smoltz pitch for the last time. Hope not, but possible. Best part: watching Chipper have a great season.

Would a change at hitting coach help with the inconsistent hitting? TP coould be moved to another position. Sometimes a new voice helps.

I refuse to talk about Franceour anymore. He’s been a source of frustration this year. Maybe he is rebounding and will again become a good hitter capable of driving in runs.
On the bright side, we have had many. Morton has demonstrated that he can pitch in the majors. He has a lot to learn but has the stuff to be successful and maybe an ace down the road.
JJJ is unbelievable at this point. He knows how to pitch and has the stuff to go with it.
But my biggest surprise is Jorge Campillo. There was a lot of “talk” about JJJ and Morton, but nothing about the potential of Campillo. He been great! He should have a few more wins, but the lowly Braves abnd their sporadic run production got him. He has been a blessing.
Chipper’s run at .400 has been a lot of fun. I hope he rebounds and gets on a tear to flirt with the elusive mark.
Maybe one of my biggest disappointments, besides Franceour, has been Matt Diaz. He was taking swings that made Franceour look wonderful. Hopefully when he returns he will contribute. IMO, the Braves are toast this year due to their first half play. Although they are only 6.5 back, the Mets are surging and the Phillies look like they are for real.
I stll think we need a management change. Bobby has been great for years, but with Cy Young winners pitching for him. Maybe it’s time for Bobby to sit back and relax and enjoy his years of success. It’s someone else’s turn and I personally hoipe it’s not TP.

Al, you cannot blame the struggles of the team’s hitting, mainly frenchy, on TP. Diaz has been hurt, kotsay has been hurt and chipper seems to tweak a muscle every month or so, and yunel has been hurt or sits the bench every other game it seems like. So to blame TP for the struggles is rediculous, especially when frenchy didnt even take his advice when he he was interviewed about his slump earlier on. Tex, and McCann are the most consistant hitters at the moment and you cant think 2 players can carry the team since everyone else gets hurt. The inconsistancy comes from the inability to stay healthly.

how dare someone say that bobby cox is the reason for our place in the division. one of the best coaches in history is coaching our team and you want to throw him under the bus because our team isnt hitting anything…what are you thinking? we need a power hitting left fielder and another top pitcher beside huddy. the best thing this year has been watching chipper and the young guns while losing Smoltz is the worst thing.

DH, to say its Frenchy’s fault for not listening to TP is, in my opinion, foolhardy, and the fact that just last year we were saying the same thing that it was just A.J. not listening properly at some point we need to take a look and say you know what it’s not that the Braves have a bunch of hard headed non-listeners, it’s that possibly the messenger just isn’t effective at getting his message across, in which case would mean a change in the way it is sent needs to take place. And joe That kind of complacency is why teams with struggling icons tumble into mediocracy, case in points: Joe Pa at Penn State, and Bowden at FSU. Yes I love Bobby and what he has done for this organization, but sometimes it comes time for the legend to accept the desk job because the legend in question has lost the fire neccessary to instill the passion into young players that they need to work hard and reach their peak potential. Yes Bobby’s run at success as manager will never be replicated by any manager in any professional sport, sometimes, as stated above related to TP, its just time to change the messenger.

The low point should be the realization that the Rangers really cleaned the Braves in the trade last year. The Rangers are doing better without Teixeira than the Braves are doing with him. And, that doesn’t even factor in the devastating future damage caused by the loss of five of the Braves very top prospects.
What is the high point? Well, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans have a fine team but please don’t tell Braves management because they will deplete the Pelican roster for more dubious rentals like “Big Tex”.

To DH: The fact that they are not listening to TP is part of the problem. He obviously knows what he is doing but if no one listens then he cannot be effective. Sometimes a new voice can have an effect. There are too many games where the offense does not show up at all.

Best: Chipper’s run at .400; the surge of Campillo; McCann’s consistency; Jair’s strong half; defeating Brandon Webb; Jo-jo, Morton and Campillo facing the Angels,
Worst: playing in 1-run games; playing away from the Ted; Moylan’s & Smoltz’s season-ending injury; Francoeur’s woes; getting beat by Redmand at Coors; nearly being no-hit’d by the Dodgers TWICE in a span of 3 games.

Impressed with Lillibridge as a backup too. Boyer on occasion looks good. Brandon Jones would be an improvement in the OF.
Negatives: Braves are weak, weak in the outfield. No power in left and center and Frenchie’s bad year in right. 2B continues to be weak defensively with Kelly J. Prado is by far the best defensive player at 2nd and at least as good a hitter.
What do we need to do? Give it up for this year and not get caught like last year when we got nothing for Andruw. Trade Tex,Kotsay, Johnson if any takers, Norton if anyone will have him, and even Huddy. Could get maybe 5-6 top prospects for them and be back in the mix next year.

Best—Jair Jurrjens Worst—Braves clutch hitting as a whole What stands out to me? Braves inability to make plays to win games on the mound, in the field, and at the plate. They almost invent new ways to lose close games.
All this being said, they have been bad from that aspect and have had injuries galore, yet still can get back in the race with a good (9-4 or 10-3) start to the second half.

You want to talk about bad players. Look at Escobar. The kids attitude has not caught up with his ability. He throws the bat all over the place, and his defense has cost us more than a couple of games this year. Granted I have seen some improvement of late. But I would much rather have consistent than flashy anyday.

Best so far has been the young pitchers. With Jurrgens, Morton, Reyes, and Campillo teaming with Hudson, we have a very solid 5 man rotation. Jurrgens is way ahead of Reyes and Morton, but they are all learning to win at the major league level. This is a “changing of the guard” scenario that was enevitable (Smoltz and Glavine may be starting their perfunctory 5 year wait to Cooperstown after this season).
Worst so far is the lack of clutch hitting.
I’d like to see Tex moved for some high level prospects - it would be good for us to get something for the future. In Tex’s absence put Chipper at first base for the next 3 -4 years.
We need a table setter at the top of the order, and situational hitters around McCann and Chipper.
The NL East is fairly weak, so we still might contend, but without clutch hitting we’re not going to go very far.
Kudos to Roger McDowell on the great job he’s done with the rotation and pen!

Fan of Santa They have to much money invested in a player like Frenchy and other players who seem to get no help from the instructions from TP. It’s much more cost efficient to cut ties with the coach that seems to have trouble getting through to players than to get rid of the players who have trouble listening to or understanding what the coach is saying

Agreed with most comments, the Bravo strength is their pitching (starting + bullpen). We could have been right there with the Nats had it not been for the great pitching.
The low point, lack of consistent offense. With the exception of Chipper and McCanne, we hardly have any one who hit with consistency. I hope Frenchy rebound from his slump and TEX becomes more of a hitter like when he joined the team last year (well, at least before he is traded).
If we can have our offense up - I’m pretty sure the Bravo will be right back in the mix in no time
Go BRAVES

To Steve at 1:16 pm. You have to be kidding about Yunel’s defense. His defense has been amazing most of this year. Granted he has made a few errors what person on the braves hasn’t. But really you can not say Yunel’s defense has cost us. Defense really hasn’t been the braves problem save for a couple of games. The real problem with the braves is constancy at the plate. The braves aren’t a real patient bunch at the plate and thats whats killing them.

The best is the developing young players, who look to do well in the future. The worst is a 100 year old manager, that has over stayed even the best situation. The team is back pedaling, and after all, many have said that the Braves won Pennants because he was the best. If that was the case, the Braves look to never win one again as long as he is here. Billy Packer is a good example, having been released after 27 years. At some point the leadership has to understand that someone younger can do a better job.

Last year the Braves won 83 games and finished 3rd. Today, they have 67 games left. We have 45 wins. It will probably take 90 wins to compete for the division championship. That leaves a record of 45 wins and 22 losses?? no way.
By proeye

I think it’s rather obvious what the major surprise this year. THE BRAVES ARE NOT IN FIRST PLACE! I think everyone expected them to do much better. I’ll tell you, there are far too many factors that have led to them being in 4th place and under .500. Obviously injuries are a big part of it but also lack of offense, inability to hit on the road, and this weird inability to close out close games despite the team being second in the league in ERA. The team has also scored 38 more runs than they have given up which means they SHOULD be above .500 at the half but instead they are 5 games under. Either this means they are going to have a big winning streak or they are going to lose a lot of big games.
one last note… People, you need to stop thinking that clutch hitting is some kind of stat. Like guys can turn it on when needed. Sorry, but it just doesn’t happen. It’s a myth. You either hit well or you don’t, no matter what the situation.

One has to remember that what makes a great team great, is chemistry. It’s difficult to form a great chemistry when key players are on the DL. During the run of 14 straight Division titles the Braves were fortunate not to occupy a lot of time on the DL. Just 6 1/2 games out, if we can get our key players healthy (and keep them healthy) the strengths of those returning will feed the rest of the team. Remember, the Braves have been in a deeper hole at the All Star break, only to come back and win it. It CAN be done. And stop dogging out Cox and Pendleton; they are doing the best they can with what they have. It’s up to the players to provide the results.

Hi, I’m Seong-Ho,Yoon living in Jinhae City southkorea now.
The status of Southkorea is exactly same as Atlanta Braves I think.^*^
You people over the world have to know the reality about Asia’s real history. Why? because Babylon changed Asia’s history for the purpose of concealing themselves. ^*^
Until the 12century, Asia was split into two pieces, north was Babylon and south was Yamato.
Baby+Lon meant that small and bald headed people but they had gigantic Gold and so many merchants borrowed their money.
But, what on earth they had so much gold? It is important that babylon was intruder in Judah(Egypt) and together with Israel they constructed Roman Empire in Europe and they made Crusader.
So, through silk load etc, between Manju Area(North-East china) and Roman Empire communication exist for so long time. But, from the completion of their purpose in Europe, babylon returned to their home at Manju with enormous Gold and numerous beautiful slave women lived in Europe around.^*^
But, after some rest, Babylon started to attack Yamato tribe(Judah’s 12tribe’s strongest one) which was consisted of South China&South Korea&Japan Islands.
In the middle of 12century, Babylon intruded east of Tokyo(Izu) by 200,000ships(They were called Izunome). And Yamato tribe had to fight with them.
Next, Babylon intruded southkorea, but after all southkorea’s Yamato Tribe lost nation to Babylon and Babylon made step Boss King Lee and named nation to Choseon Dynasty.
But, in China a wonderful religion called Myungkyou(Solomon, Osiris, Mithras, Messiah’s Religion) did success in making COUP D’ETAT by returned Absolom(Jang Mu-Ki) and they expelled Babylon to Manju Area, but a malevolent general called (Ju Won-Jang) betrayed him and China lost nation to Babylon through Ju.
Therefore, after losing south-china and south-korea, in japan Babylonian constructed BAKUH
Kamakura Bakuh(1185~1333) Muromachi Bakuh(1333~1576) Edoh Bakuh(1603~1867)
Samurai(Chivalry)’s history was fight with BAKUH. But, look the end of Bakuh 1867. This was just after invention of Neutron by Babylon.
After that Bakuh member changed cloth to Democracy and Capitalism and Religion. They made Meizi new government for the purpose of stealing power of King in Japan.
And in southkorea, Step Boss of Babylon Lee deleted whole religion in Yamato Tribe first and prohibited the usage of first name of people. And they changed whole history freely and they started to teach their language Korean. Befor that time, Yamato’s language was Japanese of now.
And in southchina, Yamato tribe have to change their language but now north and south china’s language is different. Original one of south-china was Japanese.
But southkorea and southchina was painful under the ruling nobility who were almost Babylonian bald headed people. So, in southkorea, they made strange TOPKNOT culture why? for concealing their bald head and in china, they made Yamato tribe to cut whole hair like Babylonian. That was PIGTAIL culture. Because in 12century Yamato Tribe had no bald head.
And you have to know again, in the middle of 19th century, southkorea’s nobility was weakened and they moved for making Democracy and Capitalism and religion. China was the same status as southkorea I think.
Freemason Iluminati and Mr.Obama!! What are you thinking about? Democracy again? Capitalism again? Babylon made Democracy and Capitalism in short time to the direction neutron can control by enslavery.
In 20century’s first decade, Absolom reborned to King Taisei of Japan, and he was connected with real Freemason. By the information from Freemason and himself’s experience fighting with neutron sound. He invaded southkorea and southchina, why? for the purpose of making free Yamato tribe from neutron sound’s slavery.
But, after death of King Taisei of Japan, gradually Babylon seized Japan’s leaders by implant.
AFTER ALL, Babylon feared King like Taisei who never lose to neutron. And Babylon had to collapse Judah’s 12kingdums. And Babylon had to make the weak to president.
This is reality of contemporary world. You got it Judah’s 12tribe’s people over the world!!!!!
May the force of Messiah be with you
P.S: It’s too hot.^*^ My painfulness about money can make my power of judging strongest.
In The Book of Life no name is written until now.^^ It’s for you not me.^^
After collapsing Babylon by Laputa, The Book of Life would have no meaning I think. ^*^
In the Messianic Era I don’t need any money and Yerulalem can’t exchange your money to Yerusalem’s one keep in mind.^*^
Too hot!! Jinhae’s house have no air conditioner from past to now. ^*^

Look satelite’s direct picture about korean peninsla at day time.
In korean peninsla, many rivers exist, but in front of Han river(from 38line through Seoul City to west sea) and Yungsan river(from Mount Jiri through Kwagnju City to south west sea), strange thing you could check. Yellow things exist under the sea. But no other river’s front have this yellow thing.
From past to now, the underground area in korean peninsla called [Nation of Yellow Spring]
So, around these two river’s starting point, two underground bases can exist.
Northkorea’s whole tunnel was directing these two bases you have to know.
Northkorea’s request about Heavy Oil(19XX,1995,2006) was due to the Drilling Machine which can excavate these area.

Best: Has to be Chipper’s run Worst: Let me give a different angle on this subject. As far as team prespective goes. In a moment I feel that the Braves first half was serverly damaged when with a game in hand, Kelly Johnson drops a game (very important game) ending routine pop up. I felt the wind get knocked out of me, and I am sure that the feelings in the dugout were worse. Maybe the second half Kelly will have an opportunity to and will win a ballgame in dramatic fashion that my spur a run. I sure wish him the best. GO BRAVES!!!

What’s important? ^^ Yeah Catcher with good hitting ability rare! But, Florida Marlins’s starting fielders have qualification of MajorLeague. This is important.^^
In Atlanta Slaves, starting players who has no hitting ability, no fielding ability, no slg ability, no RBI ability, no super-speeder exist. ^*^
They are now disturbing Brandon Jones, Jason Perry and Reid Gorecki in minor.
And look AAA’s infielder
Diory Hernandez .290 5HR 33RBL(293AB) with good defense
Brent Lilibride .212 1HR 15RBL(212AB) with worst defense
These players are not human, but body only human. Killign people is sin yeah.
But Killing people having body only human must be the good behavior. From now on, USA you have to distinct this fact.
Without killing devil, demon, satan, No justice can be built up in USA and Whole World.
For the qualification of Messianic Era, people have to kill the malevolent. This is essential.
May the force of Messiah be with you

The worst without question: re-upping Senile King Cox….Is there any more proof how brain dead Cox is: Sunday’s game Jo Jo (Touchdown) Reyes, since he walks 6-7 per start, vs. broke-down Odalis Perez has 9-8 ballgame written all over it. TD Reyes still learning, has promise, but walks huge problem.
Perez, like Adam Eaton (who beat Senile King’s team a few weeka ago,) a joke of the league…..so after lead-off hit by Blanco, Kelly Johnson—he of the .300 average vs. lefties—is told to….to…..to…can you say B-U-N-T?
Bunt !!!!….surrender an out, play for one run in a game handicapping to be slow-pitch softball game…..Cox is the problem…Nobody expects an inflexible 67-year-old old-schooler to change, but who re-upped him?

The worst thing was that the Braves left spring training and started the season. The best thing is there are only 30-35 games left.
