Update on the Braves’ many injuries
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Happy Friday, everyone. Sorry I haven’t been around much lately; life has been more hectic than usual. I’ll be back on a more regular basis next week.
Meanwhile, I’m sure the guys enjoyed their first day off in about 2 1/2 weeks yesterday, and with all the injuries, this team definitely needed a breather. The lineup they sent out there Wednesday could have been Richmond’s.
Here’s a look at where some of the walking wounded stand and when we might get a few of them back:
Chipper Jones: Has missed five games with a strained right quad. He’s hoping to DH against Toronto and might be ready to get back out on the field next week.
Mark Kotsay: Has been out since May 26 with a lower back strain. He’s 2-for-7 in his first two rehab games in Mississippi and may come off the DL as early as Tuesday.
Martin Prado: Has been out since May 5 with a sprained left thumb. He began a rehab assignment in Mississippi yesterday, going 0-for-4. (At least he stayed in the game long enough to get four at-bats.)
Matt Diaz: Has been out since May 27, when he injured his left knee sliding into a concrete wall in Milwaukee. He’s another two or three weeks away.
Yunel Escobar: Missed four of the past five games with a hip flexor and then a shoulder injury. He’s hoping to be back this weekend.
Omar Infante: Has been nursing a pulled hamstring and is hoping to avoid the DL.
Mike Hampton: The star-crossed lefty made his second scoreless appearance for the Braves’ rookie-level Gulf Coast League team Wednesday, pitching 2 2/3 innings and giving up three hits and no walks, striking out two. He threw three shutout innings on June 21.
Here’s hoping all those timetables stay on track and the team gets more recognizable in the next week or so. But you have to hand it to the young starters who have been given the chance to shine because of the injuries and have made the most of the opportunity. Jorge Campillo, Jair Jurrjens, Jo-Jo Reyes and Charlie Morton have more than held their own during some rough stretches, and with any run support would be racking up the W’s.
Speaking of starters, here are the pitching matchups for this weekend in Toronto:
Friday: Dustin McGowan vs. Jair Jurrjens. In his last start, McGowan got bailed out by his offense after giving up four runs in five innings, while all three of Jurrjens’ runs in the six innings of his previous start were unearned and he came away with a loss.
Saturday: John Parrish vs. Tim Hudson. Parrish was called up from AAA (where he was 10-1 wth a 2.74 ERA) to fill in for Shaun Marcum (injured elbow). In his last start, Huddy finally got his first interleague win with Atlanta, throwing seven shutout innings against the Mariners.
Sunday: A.J. Burnett vs. Jo-Jo Reyes. Burnett allowed only one run in eight innings against the Reds in his last start and has given up two earned runs or fewer in six starts this year. Meanwhile, Jo-Jo is hoping to bounce back from the shortest outing of his career, when he lasted only 2 1/3 innings against the Brewers.
Upcoming TV Schedule
Friday: at Blue Jays, 7:07, SportSouth
Saturday: at Blue Jays, 1:07, SportSouth
Sunday: at Blue Jays, 1:07, SportSouth
Monday: Off-day
Tuesday: vs. Phillies, 7:00, Peachtree TV

CC: I hear ya on the injuries. It’s amazing to me this team is just four games out of first place. At the midpoint of the season the Braves are still in the race and can still take off in the second half, but a few of the names mentioned above have to get healthy for that to happen.
Oh, and first?

6-4-3 That stretch in NY notwithstanding, Glavine’s been my favorite Brave for almost 20 years (wow!), so I didn’t forget him. I couldn’t find any info out there about Glav or Soriano, so there wasn’t anything to update.

OK, that’s better CC.
Just one more thing. When or if Glavine returns, who moves to the pen? I say Morton, although I’d like to see him continue starting. I think there’s potential there.

Hey, I would love to see Glavine come back. Just not as a player. Let Charlie have a chance to shine. It’s time to move over and let the youngsters develop. How about a pitching coach Glavine?

Tomy Fournier,
Fire McDowell? The Braves are only first in the league in starters era and third in bullpen despite the injuries. Relax, we are only four games out in June.

The only pitching Glavine cares about anymore is from the short rough onto the green. It doesn’t pay $8 million a year but Tom no longer likes baseball, anyway. Glavine apparently failed to disclose this minor detail before signing his too-lucrative contract with Frank “Wren over his head.” Golfer Glavine has won 2 - count ‘em 2 - baseball games. Why not pitch this disloyal traitor into the nearest sand trap, and give his innings to pitchers who really want to be here?

EXCUSE ME but Glavine has 5 quality starts none of which he’s given up 3 runs and 7 starts where he’s went long enough to give the team a win by only giving up 2 runs or less. At his age if your 42 and throw 100 pitches in 5 innings and only give up 2 runs or less THAT’s what you ask for. Ans his arm did start hurting until May.

What about Glavine? Is he ever going to pitch again?

This is a huge series for the Braves. Tonight is a big game. It would be so clutch to get a win tonight and set a good tone for the weekend. If the boys get 2 of 3 at least, the rest of the first half sets up rather nicely with another shot with the Phils at home and a west coast roadie that sets up good for Atlanta.
The roadie sets up good for me too because I am on a business trip to LA that week and I already have my tickets for all 3 in the Dodgers series. I am also cashing in some frequent flier miles and priority club points to go to S.D. for at very least the Saturday game. It should be fun, I hope.

CC how about a simple google search on Tommy to update his status: MLB.com: Tom Glavine met with Braves orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde on Tuesday night and was cleared to begin light stretching and range-of-motion training for his injured left elbow.

Hi, I’m Seong-Ho,Yoon living in Jinhae City southkorea now.
Hey!!!Jeff Francoeur!!!
Calm Down your heart to stabl and silent status when you are at bat. Just like you are dreaming.
This can make your swing speed exploded and as a result of that your decision about pitched ball must start at lately and you can look pitched ball to the end.
Reduce weight training adequatly. You did too much weight training in last winter. So your muscle’s power was strengthened but your swing speed reduced.
As a result of that, your reaction about incorner done bad compared with last year. So I wrote about your basic swing theory you learned when you were young.
And again, too much power of muscle can make your grip of bat too tightly and then, your batted ball’s spin would be reduced. Why? the weight of bat can make HR and your arm’s muscle can’t make HR. Do you understand?
Too tight grip of bat must make your arm’s muscle’s power to be used in batting, but soft grip can make your arm to use weight of bat for hitting pitched ball.
These are not my experience but my sixthsense, inspiration. Keep in mind! ^*^

Hi,I’m Seong-Ho,Yoon living in Jinhae City southkorea now.
To players who are not friends of Babylon through resonance schumann.
Don’t read fan forum in MLB.COM, why? they can block freely people who insist justice like me now.
Don’t read David O’brian pages he is babylon’s direction I think. And theseday I couldn’t write in David O’brian page, checker blocked me.
Do you remember? in April this year 97% of Atlanta people voted John Smoltz to the greatest pitcher in Brave’s history. People like that are real fan of Atlanta Braves I think.
And ignore voices of fan attacking you, neutron can make voices in the air freely. Direction can be made freely too.
Next about Injury.
Medical Doctor insists that whole injuries on sports come from just problem like machine. But, two-kinds of injury exist you have to know.
Naturally occurred injury which originally have reason in purification action of polluted particles summed in blood. So after finishing purification your body would return to healthy status.
This is attack from neutron wave of particle which malevolent babylonian drive. But, they need polluted particle summed in your body(blood) for the attack. You got it?
Therefore, for the purpose of protecting your body from injury, in first you have to clean your blood by natural food and no medicine and no anti-natural agent and no drug. And the most efficient method is the radiation of the light of Messiah I tought about your whole body everyday and reading the gospels from Yerusalem such as Harry Potter, Miyazaki Hayaho’s animation, V for Vendeta, Equillibrium, AppleSeed EX Machina etc.
Without polluted particle in your blood, no severe injury can be made. Radiate the light of Messiah. When it is difficult, contact me directly with no promise. People who you could make promise are 100% fake santa from past to now.
If you would read Book written by Babylon like Bibble and false history, your head would ache. Why? this writting makes connection of soul line between you and real writter(Babylonian=Red Dragons)^*^
Old story about Babylonian Kim family exist, they sold water of river DAEDONG on now land of northkorea.^*^
Don’t negociate with NorthKorea please. They are just step-boss of Babylonian mainly living in soutkorea. Why? in soutkorea great underground vacant area exist. Theseday north-china and japan’s babylonian are gethering to southkorea.^*^
Freemason Illuminati? Oh dazzling!!^*^ Please help making the free movable connection between Miyazaki Kyusyu Island Japan and Jinhae City Southkorea, in desperate status, korean peninsla could be the spot which the strongest earthquake in earth’s full histroy could occur like Revelation to John.
Babylonian must go deep into the underground area, but the good people Yamato tribe in southkorea need place to escape like Miyazaki Japan.
Revelation to John Yeah changed by Joseph, the emperor of Babylon, but he didn’t know everything and he didn’t change the content he don’t understand. In my inspiration, the great city ruling kings over the world meaning Seoul City, and in last judgement Babylon would collapse first I think.
Always Japan could be changed by USA’s non-jesus people’s influence from past to now. Keep in mind.
May the force of Messiah be with you
