It all comes together in doubleheader sweep
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There are so many good things to talk about after the Braves’ doubleheader SWEEP OF THE METS yesterday (I just love typing that) … I almost don’t know where to begin.
• The 17 consecutive batters retired by Tom Glavine in the first game.
• Jorge Campillo’s extremely impressive start in the second game (six shutout innings with seven strikeouts, allowing only three hits). Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found ourselves that desperately needed starter at the back of the rotation.
• The bullpen’s 20-inning scoreless streak (which ended harmlessly in the eighth inning of game two).
• Mark Teixeira’s hope-inspiring 4-for-5 performance.
• Chipper Jones going 2-for-4 in the second game to end that mini-slump (2-for-11 in his previous three games) and push his average to .409.
• The Braves’ bench, which now features speed, versatility and a little pop.
• The cherry on top is that it all happened against the Mets and moved the Braves past them into a tie for second with the Phillies.
What were the best things you saw in yesterday’s doubleheader? And how do you think Campillo would do coming off three days’ rest against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, as the Braves are considering?
As for today, we could use some good news on Yunel Esobar’s right knee. The collision at second base that ended the game last night was brutal. The young shortstop said, “No DL,” as he was being helped off the field, but the possibility that he’ll miss some time obviously exists. Good thing Omar Infante has looked so good since coming off his stint on the DL.

Yunel said “NO DL” b/c latin players play no matter what, they are afraid of losing their starting jobs that they fought so hard to get. However, it would probably be best to rest him today if he isn’t 100%
As far as Campillo, it was a great start but let’s not get carried away. Jeff Bennett and Buddy Carlyle are still more viable options at this time as they both started last year.
However, the best thing is now we get to sing the “BEAT THE METS” song on Buck and Kincade later today on 680thefan!

Good games yesterday. The best part was the hope from Campillo. I honestly couldn’t believe he was dominating the mets the way he was. There were 2 or three time where i saw mets wiff on a 86 mph fastball because they couldn’t catch up to it. Thats exactly how well he was changing speeds. Campillo looked like he attended greg maddux academy. Maddux always emphasized how most pitchers today focus on how hard they can throw rather than movement and changing speeds. Campillo uses 4 different speed levels unlike most finesse pitchers who generally have 3 or less(fastball changeup, some kind of curve or cut). Campillo displayed a fast ball 85-88, change 74-78, curve 69-72, and a slider 80-83. It seemed like a batter never saw the same pitch consecutively courtesy to a good call by corky miller. I have to say every inning i was wondering when the magic would run out because campillo is a reliever and i wasn’t sure when his pitches would lose “touch”. But he surprised me and if he were conditioned as a starter he definately could have gone at least one more inning. I am a little concerned about him starting on 3 days rest seeing as what he pitched last night may have been stretching his stamina. Now for the good and the bad of Campillo probably becoming the braves back end starter: The good: Charlie Morton won’t be rushed to the big leagues and the braves may have some stability in the back end. The bad: were losing campillo out of the pen meaning were going to rely on jeff bennett more who already has a very large amount of long relief appearences, but at least hes gettin it done.
