Why can’t we be friends?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Let’s get better acquainted, y’all. Check out the new Chop Chick page on myajc.com. It’s where you’ll find my photos from the games. (I’ll post some here, too. And I should really take some.) Mainly, it’s where we Tomahawks fans can hang out and talk even more ball in a casual setting, make fun of David Wright’s unibrow, whatever goes.
Meanwhile, Langerhans was traded AGAIN, this time to our NL East “rivals,” the gNats. Now I know he’s not hitting a lick right now but good God almighty — is he now K-mart style baseball brand material? Geez…

Sorry about Langy, but baseball is a business. In business when you don’t produce you usually get fired. He didn’t produce, he got fired.
By the way CC, what DID you think of Chuck’s performance last night? Never saw you address that on the other blog. He hasn’t gone more than 6 innings this year, and he’s only gone that far once. The bullpen can’t keep having to come in in the 4th and 5th innings and bailing out Chuck and Davies and Redman. Chuck and Davies need to do what it takes to throw strikes and not go on deep counts on EVERY hitter.

You’re right, tige — James was once again hammered in the sixth last night. But when it’s Ryan Howard dropping the hammer on you, the old “it was one bad pitch” line isn’t so much of an excuse as it is just plain reality. Chuck James gave up a slew of hits early in the inning, which inevitably set up the monster long-bomb. It’s a recipe for disaster no matter who you are. The key is learning to pitch out of it. And at this point, he is still learning. It takes time and we’ve got to be somewhat patient. Remember that we’ve just started May. Lots can and will happen between now and season’s end.
MY question is: What’s Roger McDowell teaching these guys, philosophy-wise? Not laying blame or casting aspersions, just curious. Does it differ all that much from the old Mazzone Method?

Dear God! I certainly pray that Roger is NOT preaching the same sermon as Leo… And I definitely don’t think he is or these kids wouldn’t be looking so darn good - albeit giving us a scare here and there.
As for Ryan - I look on the bright side for him - at least he’s back with a few people he’s familiar with - sorta like being sent to stay with the relatives for the summer. btw - I really do like ‘watching’ Redman (sorry, funky fetish I guess) but wow…ingrown toenail really killed the fantasy. ugh….

Good article and posts on Chucky J. I am also still on the band wagon. He’s young, pitches good and don’t go on the DL. Let’s bring him along right. He looks Glavishly good.

I know these guys try to ride it out with pain, injuries, etc., and that’s commendable. To a point. But if Redman’s ingrown toenail cost the Braves those four games because he didn’t come forward and say “Know what? I’m hurting and I’ve got blah blah blah going on that might be affecting my pitching,” then that’s NOT the right attitude.
Where does all the weight and momentum from a pitcher’s windup and throw end? On his legs and feet. If Redman’s had this ingrown toenail for a while, it likely affected his mechanics. Which affected where the ball ended up in the zone. Which affected our W-L record.

Chick: agreed—same thing applies to Wickman…if his fat arse was hurting and he costed us that game the other night, he should be fined.

Josh - I really don’t know about Salty’s future with the Braves. I think they will eventually listen to offers about him. If they could get a young pitching stud or proven starter they may trade him. You also have to be thinking about next season if they don’t resign Andruw Jones also. Maybe trade him for an outfielder. I really don’t want them to trade him.

I like this new kid “Salty”, and hope we hang on to him long enough to see if he’s sterling! My man Willie Harris is a great replacement for Andruw (now) why wait. I’m telling you, AJ is in need of a tune up! How many more players are going to die in crashes before we start to take notice of what has been obvious for years. There’s some serious drinking and drugging going on in the major leaugues and we’re more concerned about protecting reputations than lives. Count the times Andruw falls down swinging at pitches!!!!!!When someone holds out a quarter in the palm of their hand and you see that it’s a quarter, it has all the markings of a quarter, George’s face on it, twentyfive cents written there, why would we stand around mumbling to everyone about how it might be an oversized dime or nickle, or maybe it got printed wrong, maybe it was meant to be a half dollar!!!!!It’s a darn Quarter fool……and Andruw is just as plain as that quarter….love you andruw, but you gotta do something

LMAOOOO, I never noticed Wright’s unibrow, now it’s all I can see! A friend of mine (who is a Mets fan) says Chipper’s eyes are the length of an axe handle apart. I STILL don’t see THAT!!!

Josh how do you know “Salty” is going to be something special. Lets see he is 0 for 2. Drawn a walk, got hit by a pitch, and got thrown out at the plate. Nothing to great there. I know he hit the ball along ways but it was still an out. Blclontz are you trying to say Andruw is a drug addict because you are not real clear on what you are saying. Also alot of people drink and alot of people do drugs not just baseball players.

eric, scouts have been talkin it up about salty for a few years now. And dont put words in my mouth. i dont know if he’ll be “special” i just said he’d do well. btw, he was pretty clutch today in the win over LA. and 2 for 4 is not too bad either.

To Eric! I’m saying something is wrong with Andruw. If it was medical Bobby would already have on the DL. He’s not only playing bad, he’s not making good decisions, his balance is really bad and even Pendleton said he wouldn’t listen to him when he tries to help him. As a recovering Alcoholic, almost 40 years, and after working as a drug and alcohol counselor for a couple of years, I see some things that scare me about Andruw. True, you don’t have to be a baseball player to drink, and I’m sure that lots of them do (responsibly) but when you bring it to work with you and it affects your ability to do your job, sometimes there’s a problem. I am an Andruw fan, I’m not the enemy! My grandson just started t-ball and if he’s gonna be modeling himself after these guys (and kids are) I’d like to see them get help before it’s too late. The managers and coaches have a responsibility to try and help. Looking the other way doesn’t do that. I say things in frustration sometimes in here, but once in awhile I say things because I get caught up in the caring.
