This blog has moved! Yes, already!
As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.
New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

Florida’s greatness prepares for another title
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
They’ve won another championship, and they’ll surely win yet another on Jan. 8. That won’t arrive as particularly great news across the breadth of our envious state, but the Florida Gators are only reaping what they deserve. Their basketball team of 2006 and 2007 was an aggregation for the ages, and this football team likewise has a majesty about it.
We saw as much Saturday. No other team in the country would have beaten Alabama — indeed, until Saturday, no other team had — but Florida did it in a way that left no doubt. Down by three points in the fourth quarter, the Gators willed themselves to this latest title, and for a bunch so adept at frontrunning this closing burst served as a final argument.
Not since September had Florida trailed in a game, but against Alabama the Gators fell behind in each half. “We played hard and with a lot of toughness and tenacity,” Nick Saban would say of his Tide team, but guess which side had more?
Those of us of a certain age remember Florida when it was forever losing championships, when it had all the talent but none of the grit greatness requires. Down 20-17 against the nation’s No. 1 team, the Gators drove to the go-ahead touchdown. Then they forced Alabama to go three-and-out. Then they drove to the clincher. Said Urban Meyer: “A lot was made of this game being the old versus the new, and yes, we’ve got speed, but from Day 1 our program has been based on toughness.”
Florida outgained Alabama 133-1 in total yards that fourth quarter, underscoring what Tim Tebow called “a relentlessness” about his team. It starts with Meyer, yes, but it lives most notably in Tebow.
Said Saban: “He has been taking his team on his shoulders a lot. They have a lot of confidence in him.”
Meyer: “There’s something special inside of him.”
If you’re wondering why it was Florida representing the SEC East and not, say, that team from Athens, here you saw the difference. Matthew Stafford is a fine player who hasn’t yet found a way to be inspirational. (Stafford is every bit as low-key as his famously placid coach.) Tebow is the best player in the country because he makes so many plays himself that the other Gators dare not let him down.
Florida beat the nation’s No. 1 team on the day the Gators worked without their second-best player. Think about that. Think also about this: Through three quarters, the Tide had been the stronger team. And then the fourth quarter arrived and what had been a riveting contest became no contest at all.
Meyer: “It was a dogfight. It was check-your-will … I felt like we took some body blows — [Alabama] stuck it right down our throat in the third quarter — but we came back with the play of the day, the drive of the year.”
We’d grown used to seeing Florida win with speed, but there was no flash to this fourth quarter. The longest gain on the go-ahead possession was 13 yards. It was Alabama that had more yards passing on the day, Alabama that managed the game’s longest run. But it was Florida that slugged harder when it mattered.
“We didn’t finish,” Saban said. “They did. And he [meaning guess who] made a lot of those plays.”
If you’re counting, this makes five championships won by Florida in this city since 2005 — two SEC basketball tournaments, two SEC football titles and the 2007 NCAA championship. We can say this run of excellence is getting a bit old, but that would be petty and also dead wrong. Greatness in any form is a treat to watch. It’s time again to grit our teeth and admit that greatness resides in Gainesville, Fla.

This coming from the AJC writer that has been insulting Urban Meyer all year with the “Urban Crier” crap. You want to win Georgia, get you a coach like Urban Meyer. Great recruiter. Great game day coach. Great motivator. SEC coach of the year. Probably NCAA coach of the year. Go Gators.

I loved your article. Until Georgia learns to play for their team (versus padding individual stats to help certain players get into the NFL) they will continue to be good (even very good) but not GREAT. Just look at those great Gator teams…. they played their hearts out for each other and are a joy to watch. I agree with you, the programs in Gainesville have learned that it is team play that makes you great!

Hats off to ‘Bama for a great contest, but this game was proof that Florida is the best team in the nation. Tim Tebow is the yardstick by which every college QB should be measured, and his offensive arsenal, from Demps and Rainey to Hernandez and Murphy, provided more than enough depth to compensate for the loss of Percy Harvin. All of us in the Gator Nation should be proud of what this team has accomplished, and look forward to a THIRD national title in January. GO GATORS!!!!

… at bad sportsmanship and cheap shots. Who could miss the dirty play of the Gator offensive lineman that swift-kicked an Alabama player lying on the turf after the final play of the game. Only the conclusion of the game prevented sure ejection.
Where did this player learn this type behavior? I thought that Gator players did not reduce themselves to poor sportmanship but the Gator nation and coach whined endlessly about UGA players celebrating in the endzone. Hypocracy reins! Evidently, Gator players are like their fans, bad sportsmanship whether they win or lose.
Mark, you called it a couple of weeks ago, Gator fans are the most obnoxious and their team is running head to head with them in that race.

Florida does not deserve a shot in the national title game ahead of USC. Southern Cal lost at Oregon State. Florid lost at home. Any team having any claim of being the best team in the country (assuming there is no difference in the number of losses, and no head-to-head record to discriminate equal record contenders) must win all their home games. A loss at home should be a disqualifier, especially in college football with the hometown atmosphere and raucous crowds.
USC should play Oklahoma for the national championship. Florida should first win all their home games, then talk about being the best team in the land.

The truly “great” ones just find a way, - teams, athletes, and coaches. Love them or hate them, I find it hard to believe that any SEC program {or its fans} would not like to capture for themsleves what the Gators have going, as well as the same type of killer instinct that resides in Meyer and Tebow.
Is it not possible to honestly respect another’s accomplishments without all of the “Urban Crier” and “Timmy Te-blow” garbage? UGA fans love to use the terms “class” and “classless”.
Let’s see if they know the difference…

Those are kind words, Mark, and very much appreciated by this Florida alum.
I’ve read these Dawg fans rag Florida on the comments section of the AJC for years now. I’ve heard that Tebow (Teblow from Dawg fans) couldn’t throw, couldn’t come from behind in a big game, and some have even said he is soft. Will this finally shut your mouth? Thursday and Friday I read Dawg fans claiming Alabama would kill us. I hope you’ll think before you rag us again. We own you, Dawgs. It’s you that’s soft and you can’t win the big game. Think before you speak/write.
Congrats to Bama for an excellent game. This was one of, if not the best win we’ve ever had, mainly because of how good your team is. I swear you guys never missed a tackle all game. Your coach is great. If we didn’t have Meyer, I’d want Saban.
It’s great to be a Florida Gator!

Play of the game: The facemask penalty in the 4th Q on AL…without it, FL would not have scored the go-ahead TD…

Any team having any claim of being the best team in the country (assuming there is no difference in the number of losses, and no head-to-head record to discriminate equal record contenders) must win all their home games.Isn’t it great to be able to make up your own rules, after the fact, then impose them on others? So, who did USC BEAT this year…oh yeah, OSU and Notre Dame, whoever they are. What an imposing gauntlet that was. Get real. The SEC has won, without an undefeated team, the last two national championships. Probably will win a third.
I say any team must have a left-handed quarterback and have beaten the current #1 in the country, as well as the consensus preseason #1…(now that was obviously a joke).

this was a great game and clash of tow great programs. Gators prevailed because of leadership and great team play by all players. They take advantage of mistakes and capitalize. Every player knows their time will come and prepares to be ready. That is what is great about this team. I said TEAM!! Tebow made great reads and quality passes in tight coverage. That is Heisman material. Gring on Sooners, Penn State, USC,or Texas, it doesn’t matter

First, congrats to both teams and especially to Gators. And yes Tebow is the most valuable player in college football. However, there are lots of ways of saying this without ripping Stafford or any other college player. UGA’s problem this year was not Stafford. He is a terrific college QB who came through many times this season and led his team to victories that others might not have obtained. I think in the next few years we will find out how really great he was at UGA and will be in the pros.

I was at the game at the GA Dome and first let me congratulate Florida on their win. Bama had a great season and Bama fans are very proud of their hard work and perseverence this year.
I will say that I witnessed some pretty awful behavior by Tim Tebow while we were on TV timeout. He went out on the field to about the 5 yard line, did the gator chomp with his hands towards the gator fans..then skipped all the way to the end zone doing it. NO, this wasn’t at the end of the game…it was in the 4th quarter after Florida scored the go ahead TD (probably 4 or so minutes to go). Not sure why he was allowed to do that…no other players were on the field from either team and he was clearly not preparing for the next play (FL was on defense). I lost some respect for him at that point…as great a player as he is…he seemed to think he was above the rules.
The FL fans were very gracious in their win and I appreciate that. It was a hard fought game and Bama came up short…Roll Tide!! We’ll be back!!

Saban will be back in the next few years and rip Cryer a new one! Gators are good and diiirrrrttttyyyyy! How many cheap shots and potential injuries did you see during the game on TV against Bama players away from the ball, I don’t think you could have seen this classless stuff in person at the dome. Unbelievable, UF by far and away is the dirtiest team in the nation. I am a proud bulldog and just want the Florida fans to thank our stupid a* university for keeping its football program down a notch through crap coaching for the last 20 years. If UGA ever find a lights out coach we WOULD torch up the Lizards again like old times! Heck I don’t care if you win the next 50, my kids/grandkids are going to UGA because its so much of a better college/people/education/and state. I would have been nice and congratulated gators tonight, but after all the cheap shots/kicking Bama players on the ground in the heads after the play was over I was horrified and wanted to puke on a gator myself.
Put me in Adams position and I would go and steel Charlie your DC right from under your cold blooded green snouts, offer him twice the money and put him in line for the HC job at UGA, but I think UF has paid off everyone in their sights to win including our own AD to keep letting UGA be second tier!! Ref calling tonight “at the play” was fair but cheap shots around the field by Gators should have been quite a few 15 yarders for Bama. Saban much more classy the way his team handled themselves and he will be back to whip those Gators A** next year. Congrats Bama for playing great and playing “clean”!!!!! I hope Oklahoma gives those Gators some rough lovin in the rear and sends those smelly lizards packing!!!!
UGA welcome to sucking until you find a great DC, maybe even head coach. Dog fans even if we suck compared to the gay football gods @ UF, At least we aren’t reptiles and we didn’t have to go to G-Ville, our country’s ballsack of a location!!! I am not as great as Mark Bradley thinks I am. I believe that the players on my team aren’t worried about letting me down. I believe that they are more concerned with doing their jobs and winning ballgames than what I think. For Mark Bradley to insinuate that I am the reason players play hard for Florida is patently absurd. I prefer to think that they play hard because Urban Meyer recruits the right kind of players.

Play of the game: The facemask penalty in the 4th Q on AL without it, FL would not have scored the go-ahead TD
Yep. That was the ballgame right there. Great, great game. Hats off to both teams for great seasons… 1 quarter away from a perfect season and the NC game. Bama, you got nothing to hang your heads about. Without that one mistake (the penalty on 3rd down in the 4th) I think Bama would have won it. The final score is NOT indicative of what a close, hard fought game this was. People who didn’t watch the game and only check the scoreboard will be misled by the score.
IF the media weren’t so in love with Tim Tebow I might could get behind FL and the SEC for the NC. I’m not ready to do that just yet. Not after watching a 3 hour game that felt like a meeting at the church of our lord and savior Tim Tebow.

I don’t really care who won the game tonight, and I am not an SEC fan at all. I agree the UF is a good team, but the country is getting robbed again of seeing a real championship game thanks to the BCS. A championship game that does not include USC is a crime. And no, I am not a Pac 10 fan either. I love a good college football game, and I think a UF vs. USC game would be a great game to watch. Even a USC vs. Texas or Oklahoma would be more of a game then what we are likely to get with UF vs Oklahoma.

I think I could win with UF’s football budget. Tops in the NATION (true). UF degrees overrated, job loss stats factual!!! Just love spewing on the hype that is UF all sports $$ very little substance behind the rest of Gayturd nation. UGA got a lot less hicks (jean short outfits and beyond at most UF events) and a lot more high class southern p***. UF doesn’t even qualify here, its pathetic. God if you obnoxious Gator fans didn’t have your football wins over the last 20 years I think you would just loose it completely and go jump off a cliff! Of which there is not a one in the great yankee state of Florida!. With UGA the last 25 years so what about the stupid misguided football team, we still rule. I’m one of those 40-somethings that remember the no-grit, 50 plus years without an SEC title Gators that existed into the early 90s. When they weren’t choking away big games and potential championships, they were cheating and getting nailed by the NCAA.
I hate to admit it, but the turnaround has been impressive. Florida rose to national prominence the same time FSU did and just after Miami did, but they’ve outlasted those programs. Give the SOBs credit. I think Tebow is his generation’s Herschel Walker, a rare player that elevates a talented team into greatness. Meyer’s a great coach, but he’ll have a hard time sustaining this level when Tebow graduates. Then again, who wouldn’t?

Was in Jacksonville when Florida was shopping for coaches. Nobody including radio “experts” knew who the heck Urban Meyer was. Now they all claim him as some saviour or, nobody hs a coach like us. Which is typical of Florida fans, alott know nothing about what’s going on in their own league much less the rest of the country. Florida has the arragence and haughtiness of Notre Dame and the history and tradition of Wake Forest. They have always had talent down there but kept shooting themselves in the foot with inept coaching and athletic dept. management. They will continue to be good. The rest of the league will get better. In the erly nineties I doubt anyone thought
As for Georgia, There is enough talent in this state to field a competitve program. I think they do that. Richt is a top 7 or 8 coach in the country. His staff and loyalty to that staff is questionable .

Dear Bulldog79 and Liferdawg, Instead of worrying about Florida, I’d try to inspire my FCA coach to get his BOTOXED butt in gear and leave the missionairy work to someone else until he can find a way to reach a National Championship Game. It’s been 28 LONGGGGG!! years since Dog Nation has won something meaningful and as long as you have the Petulant Prince of College Football autographing bombs in the Middle East instead of worrying about the job he is being paid millions for—Well, you may be aiming for half a century of ineptitude. Of course you never have to worry about pro teams sniffing around the Head Dog’s backside as they realize his Bobby Bowden Bull%#&^@% may work with boys but will flop with MEN. 28 YEARS!!!!! Since you have been relevant—That almost is enough to remove you from the football ELITE!! Please no more to harm the SEC—Win your silly mid level bowl game.

It’s good to see, in response to a column acknowledging UF’s greatness, so many weak, sad bulldog fans crying and living vicariously (look it up, stupid) through Bama. Saban will be back and rip us a new one, huh? One thing’s for sure, we won’t have to worry about the puppies doing worse than ripping the hem of our jorts. In case you forgot, I’ll remind you that Richt has a losing record against all Gator coaches he has faced. Should you happen to win next year, you will have won four games in the last twenty years. That’s .200 percent. Enough of you are Braves fans to know that .200 is poor in any sport.

Hey DB Cooper, I’m surprised you are still alive after all these years. At least you are not with the Unibomber. That crack about Florida, Notre Dame and Wake Forest predated the inception of the SEC Championship Game. I’m sure even as you meander through those woods that you realize Florida has won as many of those(7) as Tennessee(3), Alabama(2) and Georgia(2) COMBINED. LSU won the other 3. So you keep waiting for Missionairy Boy to lead you to the Promised Land. I actually prefer his work in foreign lands to the time spent in hospitals getting botox injections. You realize the Reverand Mark hails from Boca Raton, Florida. Now Botox is BIG in Boca, BUT it’s usually pruneish looking 50 year olds getting it done and not the football coaches of formerly elite programs. Just wait—it’s almost time to start hearing about all those wonderful recruits coming to Athens. Of course they have allegedly been coming for years and YET still not one national Championship since the 1st year of the Reagan presidency. Since 1981 Miami, FSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, LSU, Alabama and for Pete’s sakes even Brigham Young and Clemson!! have won at least one Title—My apologies to whom I have forgotten. BUT NO Georgia. It’s been so long that the screaming maniac has even seen fit to call it a day. But you keep waiting and like Dusty Springfield crooned nearly 50 years ago—“Wishin and Hopin won’t make it come true”. PLEASE!!! No choke job against some Big 10 “Dog” in Central Florida.

December 7, 2008 6:50 AM | Link to this
First of all, for all of you Gator fans, congratulations. I have to agree with Bradley’s article 100% here. This was a great championship game between two great teams, and the Gators gutted it out at the end, like great teams do. Both squads left it all on the field.
For those who say the Tide was overrated, BS. This was the national title game. Bama had beaten every team on its schedule and would also have beaten any other team in America on Saturday (yes, including USC. Yes, including Texas and Oklahoma). If you couldn’t see this on the field on Saturday, then you don’t appreciate great college football.
For those who insist that USC deserves a shot at the title, sorry. The Big 12 champion had to run a gauntlet that included several teams that actually had national relevance. They also had to play in a conference title game. Ditto for Florida, who obliterated everyone after the one-point Ole Miss loss and also won a conference title game against a top-ranked opponent. The PAC 10, by contrast, is a joke. Southern Cal mailed it in against Oregon State and the rest of its creampuff schedule didn’t impress anybody.
Georgia has the talent to compete at this level (heck, Stafford, AJ Green, Mo Mass and Moreno will all be first rounders in the NFL draft someday), but this season was all about three things for the Dawgs: injuries, undisciplined play and lack of leadership. With eighteen starters lost for the year to season-ending injuries, the nucleus of the team that played so well at the end of last season was gutted. The players committed too many penalties and turnovers in critical situations and failed in a lot of very basic areas (tackling, blocking) that underscored the underlying lack of cohesion in this team. And when the chips were down, when somebody needed to make a play, there was no leadership. Bradley is absolutely right—Tim Tebow motivates his teammates in ways that championship players do. He challenges them to perform at his level. And that drive is why Florida will win the national title this season.
Georgia has had some great teams under Mark Richt, including last year’s. This team, despite all of its talent, was not one of them.

Yes, UGA had tons of injuries and tons of penalties(half which should never have been called). In watching st nick’s team and the crier man’s team play, saw some things they were doing that should have been penalized, but not called. Uga was called all year for them. One more thing: go tebow, go tebow, go tebow, go go go go go—-AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should be OK and TX in Nc. However if Texas(whom I like, by the way- also a Southern team)should get there- a riot, like has never been, should break out in Georgia.

After Florida wins the NC, you Dawg fans are still going to be blaming the refs for losing to the Gators, saying every other team in college football is better than the Gators, that Ole Miss (which is currently a top 10 team in talent and coaching) beat the Gators, that we were lucky and dirty against the Tide, that Tim Tebow has no class, and all Urban Meyer does is cry. What a bunch of losers and cry babies you guys are! You would never admit it, but you would give up your right arm if you could replace Richt with Urban as your coach tommorrow. You know something? TampaGator is…..RIGHT! We ARE a bunch of losers and cry babies who should get used to being losers and cry babies. I cry at football games when the Bulldogs lose. I unfairly blame the coach, the refs, the mascot, and the alumni association. I foolishly believe that UGA could win the national championship if I were the coach. I’m not just a monday morning quarterback, I’m a tuesday evening offensive coach, a wednesday afternoon waterboy, a thursday nite blitzer, and a friday night cheerleader gang-tackler, (wink).
Maybe, as terrence moore suggested about the Hawks, the rebuilding of any team starts with the fans. Maybe we need to cheer louder, woof woof harder, start food fights in the stands, quit putting play dough in the band equipment, quit watching the Paris Hilton video at halftime, I dont know, maybe it really is ALL OUR FAULT!!!
Repeat after me, Bulldog fans: “I promise, to wear my bong hat, loan my beer hat to anyone who loves the Bulldogs, bring extra seat cushions, loan my binoculars to anyone interested in the cheerleaders, bring scooby snacks for Uga, and to obey the law of the 6-pack. amen.”

Florida and certainly Alabama do not deserve playing for the National Title. Florida couldn’t even beat Ole Miss at home, who lost to Wake Forest. I agree these were the best of the worst conference in college football this year, but neither is good enough to play for the title.

Hmmm…it seems like I struck a really hard nerve with the Gators.
Any national champion should win all their home games. College football provides home teams with overwhelming advantages to the home team.

USC should play Oklahoma for the NC.
By G8TR

Unbelievable. Every other program in the SEC — except UGA — has fans who are smart enough to root for their fellow conference teams to win the NC. This includes Bama fans who just lost in a great and well-played game but are intelligent, know their football history and have enough class and grace to recognize that if their opponent succeeds, their conference stature is raised.
When our conference wins on the national stage, whether it be ALA, LSU, UT or UF, the SEC’s brand as the best in the NCAA is sustained. Unfortunately, UGA apparently cannot contribute to this in the modern era (like this year’s Richtian collapse from No. 1). They can only benefit from others maintaining the conference’s supremacy and must continue to live on their national title highlight reels from back in 1980.
Sorry, Dawgs. We just called timeout again. You must stay on the field in Jacksonville until we tell you can leave the field. That’s Dawg ownership.

I would gladly root for Florida for the NC if I believed they deserved the shot. Absent a playoff system, you have to develop other criteria to determine who deserves the shot at the title if all teams have equal records. In this case, USC and Oklahoma lost away from home. Florida won at home. Therefore, Oklahoma should play USC for the title.

College football is not pro football. It’s not as fun. it’s not as important.
However, I think that the war on terror would be over if only UGA had won all it’s games. McCain would have been elected…. The yankees would have cloned Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth, and Shoeless Joe Jackson would be like Imelda Marcos with all the shoes……. If UGA were number one then the drought would be over, home prices would have risen, the dollar would soar over the euro, and gas would be the same price it was in 1934……I know what you’re all thinking: “but gas IS the same price it was in 1934 if you count inflation, deflation, and stagflation”….Yes, that’s true, but what you didn’t figure on is that Nixon took us off the gold standard…

It is astounding that fans of a team that dances and taunts Florida players in the end zone on the coach’s orders, or frolics to rap music on the sideline during a game, or resorts to silly “blackouts”, would be critical of Florida or Alabama sportsmanship. to Nick Chick: if what you say (one FL player went on the field during a TV commercial) and led a FL cheer is correct,I and many other Gators would say it was not appropriate. But compare this with ENTIRE TEAM going on the field at coach’s direction and interrupting flow of the game. This was GA not Bama of course. Bama did themselves proud and I admire them and their coach. Point is 19-20-21 year olds are so emotionally involved in game they sometimes do things we older fans (and often the players) regret. I thought it woul be close. I was right for 3 quarters. I don’t know how anyone could doubt Tebow now. This coming from a DAWG fan. He showed it and more yesterday. He just has IT. He is not the prettiest, the flshiest, nor perfect pass. He just flat out wins. And Gator fans, you are right. No DAWG fan can really say anything. Mark - good to see reality has finally set in, but where was your foresight when you were over-hyping the Dawgs all summer - and even into October? You are a good writer, but need to remember you write for a major market newspaper, not a Clark County mullet wrapper.
My advice to Bulldog fans and writers: next time, approach a promising season with a dose of reality, a sense of humility, and an understanding that your season means nothing if you can’t get out of Jacksonville with a win. And that game takes place in October on the football field, not in August in the pages of the AJC.

So using your argument the national championship game should be between Utah and Boise State. Both undefeated. We shouldn’t look at strength of schedule or victory margin or even the games themselves and make real assessments about who is the better team. We should just look at the record. Heck, why shouldn’t Montana play for the championship? They are 13-1.

Besides when you were 9-4 last year I didn’t hear any of this BRAGGING? BTW, how sad is it to read all the comments from FLA fans insulting UGA rather than CELEBRATING the SEC championship? Unreal. Your arrogance is uncanny. It will eventually catch up with your program at the end, and then you will have to suffer the wrath of ALL SEC fans that you’ve ragged on all those years. Karma is a b***. I’m sure many won’t agree, but I’ll say what needs to said. I’m a longtime DAWG fan and although I hate losing to Florida, I have to congratulate them on a great game and season. I love college football, and it was a pleasure to watch a team that knows how to play as a team. They were basically unstoppable because they had the inner toughness and fire to get the job done. The gators put on a clinic as to how championships are won: Innovative play calling, tough as nails D, swagger, emotion, confidence and sterling special teams play. Instead of finger pointing after the Ole Miss loss, they acted like MEN and got it together. And I would take Tebow over Stafford any day of the week — the man is simply a winner. Stafford shows flashes of brilliance, but he doesn’t have the skills or leadership qualities to put a team on his back like Tebow. Florida has a TEAM, UGA has a few semi-talented individuals who obviously thought the game would be chocked up as a win just because they showed up. I hope every Georgia football player watched that game yesterday and learned something from it. I doubt that Richt, Willie and Bobo even watched the game. They were busy with their new plan : “Hey guys, we’re going to turn up the intensity during practice NOW THAT THE THE SEASON IS OVER!” WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN ALL YEAR?
Anyway, credit where credit is due — congrats again gators. Represent the SEC well…

This Florida team seems better, at least to me, than the 2006 BCS title-winner. But there’s a soft spot in my heart for the 1984 Gators, who won the SEC championship on the field but had it taken away by SEC presidents six months later. Kerwin Bell, Ricky Nattiel, Lomas Brown, Crawford Ker, Phil Bromley, Jeff Zimmerman, Alonzo Johnson, Neal Anderson, John L. Urban Meyer is the best coach in College football. He’s smart, driven, passionate, disciplined, and unlike Richt doesn’t wear his religion on his sleeve. Georgia shouldn’t be able to beat him in the near future. Super-talented African American football players have figured out they can play in states like FL, NC, VA, CA where they get political support for Obama. GA is still fighting the wars of the past—the civil war and Roe vs Wade. Until we can drag ourselves into the 21st century and become a progressive state, our blue chip AA players will go elsewhere to play and we’ll wallow in mediocrity.

Stafford is a superb QB the problem is that he has not had any coaching since his arrival. How great do you think he can be with BoBo as his coach? What in the world qualifies him to be the QB coach anyway? It was actually painful watching Fla.& Ala play. It makes you realize just how far behind UGA is compared to these programs, and the problem is you realize they will never catch up with the coaching staff we have been dealt! Please Adams and Evans wake me out of this nightmare and tell me we are going to do something about it.

Bulldawg79, you’re ridiculous. See my other post—the Gators deserve to play for the BCS title. Oklahoma deserves to play for the BCS title. They each played in very tough conferences, won their respective conference title games and thereby qualified for the championship. The PAC 10 is a joke of a conference (heck, the Mountain West was better this season), and USC backed into the conference title because the team that beat them lost without its best player. They didn’t have to play the extra game to get there, either.
And Mark, I disagree with the Texas argument. Regardless of how idiotic the Big 12 tiebreaker may seem to you or to Mack Brown, the rules are the rules, and Texas did not win the Big 12. Oklahoma did. That should end that discussion right there. Last season, Georgia moved down without losing and LSU moved up in the standings so that the Bayou Bengals could play in the national title game as SEC champions. You can’t reverse field now and say that this “rule” (which I agree with, by the way) doesn’t apply anymore. People tried to make the same argument the year before in favor of a Michigan-Ohio State rematch for the national title, which was a similarly ridiculous proposition.
Oklahoma vs. Florida. That’s your title game. And the SEC will win it all for the third year in a row.

Mississippi: The Gators do owe you a debt of gratitude. You helped reinforce a key ingredient necessary to be a champion.Humility. Humility is used by champions to lead to improved play and effort. Losers never GET IT. That’s why Bama, Florida, and Mississippi are better teams today. They DO GET IT. NUTT, MEYER, and SABAN are really good coaches and our schools are proud to have them.

Tim Tebow is the best player in college football. Incredible to watch that performance. All the Big 12 QB’s can accumulate stats all they want, but Tebow honestly is the best at his position.
As a Dawg fan thats tough to say, but after watching his performance then watching the joke of a Big 12 game you realize just how tough the SEC truly is. Mizzou had NO business being in the game and you could have put TT, Texas or Oklahoma and the score would have been the same.
Congrats to Florida on being the SEC Champs and for the first time EVER I will be pulling for the Gators to shut up the Big 12.

Gator Nation I take it you put USC, and the PAC-10, in the same class as Utah and Boise State. I put the PAC-10 in the same class as the other BCS conferfences, with the Conference winner worthy of consideration for a shot at the NC.
Once you establish the criteria for consideration —the BCS conference winners — you then start the process of elimination.
If conference champions have the same number of losses, then head-to-head should be used.
If no head-to-head took place during the year, where did the loss(es) take place.
This leaves us with USC and Oklahoma, both losing on the road, and Florida losing at home.
USC should play Oklahoma.
Maybe the reason Florida and Alabama were rated so highly this year was due to the other competition in the SEC having an overall down year.

Folks close to the UF program are saying this next game will be Meyer’s last at Florida. Notre Dame has amassed a huge pot of money and want him on the biggest stage in college football and, most importantly, Urban wants it too. This is all mighty entertaining chatter. I haven’t lived in the South for 19 years, and that makes it much easier to sit back and enjoy the fracas. As a long-time Dog, it is no fun to admit it, but Florida has made us and pretty much everyone else their bihatch. But especially us, who had them in the same position 25 years ago. But no more, and I wonder if the tables ever will turn back. As dominant as Georgia’s football team was over Florida, it basically was one national title and some SEC titles, in one sport; the Gators now are looking at maybe a third football national title with two in basketball. They have hit the mother lode, and they’ve done it in the shadow of Georgia’s arches. We live in a different world now, the resources in college football have shifted, and Gainesville is a lot closer to the beach than Athens. Athens is close to … Monroe.

Jason…you are a class act Dawg fan. Comparing Pollack (sp??) to Tebow is dead on. He made Georgia win when he was on that team. Georgia did not have anyone like him or like Tebow this year. As good as he is, Mareno is all about Mareno. So is Stafford. Tebow and company are all about team…and where does that mentality come from…the head coach. In Gainesville, it is about team. In Athens, at least this year, it was about “me”. And it showed in the two team’s performances this year.

As far as grit and toughness, I’d say that Curran, Mo Mass and yes Moreno play with a hell of a lot of heart.
And Tampalizard and the rest of you slimy reptilian morons, Tebow was better last year and you lost 4. This year wasn’t just about Tebow, it was about having a very good D and the other pieces Demps, Rainey, Harvin, etc… that made the spread work like it is supposed to. Yes, you beat Bama without Harvin and Rainey was limited, but you wouldn’t have gotten to the game without them and you won’t win in January if Harvin isn’t back.

By Tebow for Heisman?
December 7, 2008 12:29 PM | Link to this
Who do you all think will win the Heisman this year? Personally, I think it should go to McCoy. I don’t think that will happen though since the BCS screwed over Texas. They lost by 6 in the last second of the game to Texas Tech, and that wasn’t Colt’s fault. Plus they played at Texas Tech. Oklahoma lost by ten to Texas at home. So, in my mind that would make Texas the superior team, but “rules are rules” even if they are dumb as hell.
Colt McCoy for Heisman! Dude completes 78% of his passes! Tebow can only complete a pass if the receivers are wide open. He couldn’t hit a receiver in a tight spot if his life depended on it. I’m not saying his bad, just not good enough for Heisman.
If Tebow gets it again, the media is biased, there is no God, and everything in this world is complete BS.

Your take that the only the BCS confences should be eligible for national championship consideration canablizes your argument for a USC vs. Oklahoma national title game. Why just the big 6 conferences? Because they play better football. Right? Why is Florida going to get the shot over USC or Penn State (who you failed to mention). They have played a tougher schedule (now that Alabama has been beaten) and are currently playing better football. Watch a game with sliver of objectivity before you open your pie hole. There is a reason the majority of football people disagree with you…….your wrong!

Anybody that has watched Knowshon play knows that he plays at full speed all of the time. I’ve never seen him whine about one injury or have we seen the Bulldog Nation say we lost because he was hurt like the Gators did with Tebow. Those who say that taking himself out is a sign of not being tough are just morons. He gets the same amount of touches every game (around 25). Would you rather the defense know that we’re calling a pass because Knowshon is winded or would you rather have a fresh back in there so the defense has to worry about both pass and run? Most teams have a reliable second team guy that they can start a series with. We didn’t have that. So Moreno pretty much had to start every possession and then make judgments as to when he needed a breather. One of the reasons we attract and will continue to attract top recruits at TB, is because we don’t wear them down and ask them to take 30 to 40 carries a game. Although I think when Knowshon was the only back we could play vs. the gators last year he got 38 carries and looked pretty good doing it. Its not that he can’t he and most people with functioning nervous systems know that doing that all the time is not a good idea.

Meyer said in his book that “Notre Dame was his DREAM JOB.” His wife said ‘He REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to go to Notre Dame.” He turned it down because his children were too young for him to travel to recruit nationally for ND. That is no longer an issue.
He has already coached at Notre Dame and LOVED IT. He knows exactly what the job entails.
He is from the midwest and is not some hothouse flower that can’t take the winter weather.
He is a devout Catholic and is named after a pope. How many grottos are in the Swamp?
Notre Dame sucks and can still get a number one recruiting class (took over #1 last year because so many Alabama recruits didn’t qualify). Bring in Meyer and it will be insane.
PLEASE post the link that says ND talked to Meyer’s agent. I hope its true. I hope what was discussed was that Meyer gets his last year with Tebow and ND gives Charlie one shot with his players being upperclassmen.

First of all, congrats to a great UF team for the win yesterday. I think UF deserves to win the crystal this year since they have pretty much trounced every team they’ve played; the sole hiccup was the loss to Ole Miss and that was clearly the fault of Meyer since everyone in the stadium and all of the TV observers knew what the 4th down play was going to be (should have thrown a short pass).
Secondly, I have read many of the posted comments and had to just skim over a few that came from morons talking smack. I hate to admit it but the comments surrounding the possibility of an SEC championship (let alone a MNC) for UGA are correct. It will never, ever happen as long as Mark Richt is the UGA HC!! I’m certain that he is a real nice guy and an outstanding family man but he is not a coach who can impart fundamental things such as discipline, character, tenacity, attention to detail or mental focus to his student athletes. That explains why he and his inept coaching staff are unable to get his team up for the big games. All three of the coaches that Richt lost to (Saban, Meyer and Johnson) understand how to prepare a team both mentally and physically; Richt doesn’t have a clue and it shows on the football field. One cannot blame the UGA players as there is no shortage of talent year in and year out. Georgia will continue to be an occasional 10&2 team but more often 8&4 or 9&3.
Finally, as long as the three coaches mentioned above remain at UA, UF and GT they will continue to absolutely dominate UGA. The only question is how many more years the fans and alumni will allow UGA to continue to plod along with Richt and his mediocre staff cronies.

Hey WarDEagle in ATL. I know, like everyone else, who all the teams played, as well as their respective rankings at the time they played them. UGA was definitely overrated compared to the pre-season expectations. Since neither Florida nor Alabama played anyone of significance outside of the SEC, we don’t really know how good they are. The pundits rank them high because they did so well against other teams in the SEC (except Florida, which lost at home to Mississippi). I’ll give USC credit for playing Ohio State and Notre Dame, even if neither team has a premiere squad this year. How many of our SEC teams travel around the country to play the traditional powerhouses?
It is very hard to run the table. But if you are going to claim to be worthy of consideration for playing for the NC, WIN ALL YOUR HOME GAMES!!! The college football atmosphere provides home teams with a significant advantage. Losing at home is a discriminator when comparing teams with equal records.
It really doesn’t matter. Based on the latest rankings, it looks like it will be Florida against Oklahoma. So be it.

Georgia will never win a NC with CMR at the helm. He is a good coach, a good man but does not have the fire in him to get it done.

The crocs will LOSE their bowl game. Timmy cry-baby will not make it in the NFL. If Timmy turns on the old tear ducts after an NFL loss then he will get the $heeyit beat out of him in the locker room by real men football players. The NFL is not for crying sissies. Timmy wears orange/blue panties and probably bunks with Urban Crier during road games.

Bama, FLA will continue to play for the sec title. say what you want but you know Bama and UF program is light years ahead of uga. keep paying cmr so uga fans can play in non bcs bowls. now go wipe off the dust of your only nc crown.

Ga Tech beats UGA@Between the Shrubs, UGA was up 28 - 12 against your inferior team at the half. Don’t try to pretend that you weren’t pretty ticked off at that point. All UGA needs to do now is go out and find a DC who has a clue. You nerds will need to rebuild your entire defense. That was a total fluke of a game. It sure took your lame team long enough (8 years) to post a victory. Enjoy it while you can since your triple-fumble offense will cough it up many more times in 2009. No ACC championship for GT. No BCS bowl game for GT. Just 9-3 and 8-4 seasons in the weak ACC from this day forward. UGA starts the new 7+ streak next year.

Tebow is classless because he rouses the UF fans during the game? Gators don’t deserve to be in NC because they lost by 1 to Ol’ Miss at home? Tebow doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with Herschel? Gators wear jeanshorts? Stafford has no heart?
Really lame stuff. I know a bunch of UGA grads and am confident these dumb comments DO NOT come from GA grads, they are smarter and have more class.
A great win by the Gators over a terrific BAMA team. Congrats to both. I pull for the SEC, period, even UGA when it doesn’t affect the Gators. Have loved the past 20 years, thanks Coach Spurrier!!!

Florida owes this game and its season to Tim Teabow. I have made fun of him and bad mouthed him (mainly because the media gushes so), and I am here to tell you. That guy willed and led that team from good to great. While the Georgia players are drinking and fighting, Teabow is in the weight room. Teabow is doing something to make himself better. I don’t think there is any coincidence that he also works to make the world better. Dogs take note. Champions act like champions.

bullg8r52, like many Georgia Gators, I am appalled by the continuing level of vulgarity, rudeness and juvenile smack talk on these AJC blogs. I don’t care if you’re a Gator, Tide, Dawg or Taliban fan, many of the blog comments made by alumni and fans are simply beyond the pale. I am embarrassed for the universities, their alumni, their teams and their coaches. The AJC really should do something to filter or otherwise police these blog comments. The First Amendment does not protect vulgarity and obscenity.
I note many of the ridiculous comments and insults directed at Urban Meyer, an outstanding coach who runs a clean program with a great deal of personal integrity and “tough love” concern for his players. Here’s an excerpt from a Fox Sports wire story that reveals a great deal about this much maligned man:
“On the day Mrs. Murphy died, Florida coach Urban Meyer, who lost his mother to cancer nine years ago, walked out of an SEC meeting and hopped on a jet to be with his player. ‘I was there within the hour,’ Meyer said. ‘I think that’s the best thing that any coach can do is to be with the person. You love him and support him and be part of the family.’”
It would be nice if some of the snarkier sports columnists, including Mark Bradley, would show some respect for Coach Meyer and cover stories such as this one.

Once again another year of controversy over an undisputed National Champion in College Football. 2/3 of the BCS rankings comes from human’s voting for which team should be playing when simple math would work much better. USC. Texas, Texas Tech, Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma. All good 1 loss teams. But they are all just that. One loss teams. None had a perfect season. While 2 teams sit there undefeated. 12-0 Utah and Boise St. How hard of a math problem is that?
BCS is a joke. But then we saw that a few years ago with an undefeated Auburn team didn’t we?

Sautee…there is a reason non-BCS conferences are not part of the Championship deal.
By your logic, an undefeated Hawaii team from last year should have been in the NC game last year, right??? Wait a second, UGA said the Dawgs should be in the game last year. What’s your story???
The reason the non-BCS conferences aren’t and shouldn’t be in it is because they ARE NOT QUALIFIED. No greater evidence than UGA blowing Hawaii out of the water last year, making UGA fans think the Dawgs were the best team in the nation and worthy of the #1 ranking…which was so obviously incorrect.

The ONLY Georgia grad I’ve even suspected of being a MORON is Buck Belue, but I’m sure MOST Georgia grads agee with me. If I might add, IF you want to win you will have to dispatch the facially augmented guy from Boca Raton. He has all the guts of a 7th grade bully. You WILL eventually cut him loose IF MEYER stays because IF MEYEWR stays at Florida the Choir Boy has NO chance. As for sleeping arrangements during our UF away games, coach told me to not say anything about that. Coach Meyer also told me not to say that we are in love. Oh, yes. Did you see us on the sideline in the SECCG yesterday? I love coach Meyer and he loves me. We cry together. We cry a lot. Yep, that’s what we do down here in liberal Florida. We cry. Yessth, we love to cry. Coach Meyer took me back to the locker room and washed me in the shower after the game. I love coach Meyer and he loves me. Maybe I’ll get in trouble for posting all of this but I don’t care anymore. We have cried a lot of tears together and held each other through the rough times. bubbav…great point. Going to the NC is best, but here are some others worthy of consideration:
Listening to UGA fans talk about having the all-time series lead over UF (which is exclusively based on domination by UGA pre-1950).
Seeing the hope build at UGA…we’re back, we’re the best, blah, blah, blah, yap, yap, yap…to be demolished once again by a humiliating loss in Jax.
Hearing UGA fans talk about how unfair Jax is…they sure loved it in the 70’s and 80’s.
Hearing UGA fans use the formerly Gator bitter saying “Wait til next year”.
Hearing UGA fans talk about UF being not much of a team without Tim Tebow and telling them that is like saying UGA was nothing but Herschel Walker in 80-82.
Getting to hear UGA fans cheer for BAMA, f$u, USC and the HBC…anyone please beat the Gators and do the work that the mutts CANNOT get done.
Listening to GA fans suck on the “Gators wear jeanshorts” pacifier. An absolute lie but whatever gets you through the day.
Getting to say to the mutts…”One in a row” every 6-7 years when they win a game against the Gators.
Listening to GA fans deride Tech for being dilusional when they win a single game after so many losses (see above LOL).
Seeing the GA section empty at the beginning of the 4th quarter in Jax. Everybody gone except the players’ families and the band. Nice support of your team. Reminds me of 1995 in Athens…HBC responding the GA complaints of running up the score “Not sure what they were upset for, about all there was in the stands in the 4th quarter were Gators”.
So much good stuff! It’s great to be a Florida Gator!!!

My point was, what’s going to happen and it could whenever we have a season where, FLA. USC. Texas, West Virginia. Ga Tech. Ohio St. all these teams go undefeated who’s going to be left out in the cold then and if it were your schools program being left out how would you feel about it? I’m just stating the fact that Utah and Boise St. are feeling disrespected right now probally. You know how Urban Meyer would feel if he were still coaching Utah. LEFT OUT

I’ve seen both at Michigan, Texas, OU, Va Tech, f$u, Miami as well. Mix passion, youth, rivalries and you’re going to see some good and not so good stuff…especially when you pour on the alcohol.

I no longer hate Urban Meyer. He’s not a jackhole. He could have done something much more classless than the two timeouts in Jacksonville. It was subtle, justifiable payback. until uga gets the same tougness as alabama and florida, we will always be at best the 3rd best team in the sec.
as i see it, here is the sec landscape at the end of this season…
florida and bama are the class of the league.
uga has the opportunity to step up…but until our players stop wearing skirts and start wearing football uniforms it aint gonna happen. our defense has to stop taking tackling lessons from deion sanders.
until then, we better get used to credit card bowls and steak bowls on new years day.
tennessee just hired their version of ray goff. kiffin is a politician, not a football coach. maybe his daddy can help him…
who knows if auburn is going to get a coach?
les ‘have a nice day’ miles has run out of nick saban’s talent and better start recruiting.
ole miss is going to be a sleeper in the west as long as houston nutt is there.
spurrier may sneak in there and win an sec east title after tebow leaves….but until then, he’ll be happy with 7 wins and playing golf at augusta.

I agree with you 100 percent. It seems that Tebow can act any way he feels…. It’s absurd to watch a football player demonstrate a total disregard for the other team, pure and simple act of selfishness, and totally CLASSLESS! First, to Mark… I’ve been hard on you this season for the Gator-hate you have vomitted over the years. If I’m going to be quick to criticize you for constantly hurling insults at UF, I should be just as quick to give you credit for praising them. For that, I say thank you… it was probably very hard on you… I’ll send you a fruit basket.
For all the UGA fans spewing your bitterness on this blog, I think it is nothing more than a sweeping case of what experts are now calling ‘Jorts Envy.’ This epidemic has spread quickly throughout the Bulldog nation, espcially on or around November 1st, 2008. If you have a loved one who you believe to be suffering from ‘Jorts Envy,’ you are encouraged by the CDC to call their toll free number at (800) GO-GATORS or go to your nearest sporting goods store to purchase a ‘University of Florida 2008 SEC Championship’ tee shirt… or any orange and/or blue article of clothing. Symptoms of ‘Jorts Envy’ include excessive blogging, a collection of clothing that is red and/or black, displaced anger that can lead to random and violent temper tantrums, impaired driving (particularly while listening to Sports Talk Radio), road rage, specific sexual side effects (attraction to one’s sister, vice versa), self mutilation, excessive drinking and/or drug use, installing excessively large tires on one’s pick-up truck, specific birth defects, excessive use of chap-stick, and explosive diahrrea. The CDC emphasizes the seriousness of this situation and encourages everyone to take immediate action if you suspect that you or a loved one has come in contact with someone with ‘Jorts Envy,’ as it is extremely contagious. The CDC also has released a statment that warns against going anywhere near the Athens/ Clarke county area, as it is now considered ‘beyond salvage.’ If you must venture into this infected area, the CDC encourages you to proceed with extreme caution.

To all those that keep talking about our preseason hype: we are not the same team that ended 2007 on a high note and was ranked #1 this year. We are 19 starters short. And that’s just the season-ending injuries. That doesn’t include the countless other players who missed 3,4,5 games like Southerland and Ellerbe. Do you know how many Bama players were injured this year? A grand total of 4. No season-ending injuries. The most games that ANY Bama starters missed was 2. I’m not saying that that’s why they went as far as they did. They’re an extremely talented and hard-working team. But just think about it….
I’ve only been to 2 games not at Sanford. One in Jax and the other in Auburn. My Auburn experience was great; very classy fans. My Jax experience? Not so much. We first had a very classy young lady walk up to my boyfriend’s family and I, lift up her skirt, show her bare behind, and tell us to kiss her….well, you know, for absolutely no reason at all. Later that day, we had another classy young lady walk up to my boyfriend’s sister and SPIT on her. Yes, spit. For no reason except that she was cheering for the dawgs. She was removed by police a few minutes later. And I did see that UF player kick one of the Bama players in the head while he was down at the very end of the game. I was shocked that there was nothing done about it. I’m sure UGA fans have done their fair share of rude things to other fans, and for that, I am sorry on their behalf.
On another note, please represent the SEC well, Florida, in that NC game, fans included. I’ll be a Gator fan for that day. (Did I just say that?)

U R very passionate, DawgGirl32, but you do not peruade. At least the cops removed your sister from the game after she incited those two innocent girls from Jax into girls-gone-wild behavior.
Your sister sounds like one of the rare chicks who should never have been tricked into putting on a beer hat at a tailgate party. I think maybe she should concentrate on ALTA tennis and short white skirts, because she is most certainly a spandex-challenged latent botox abuser.

DawgGirl32,
In all seriousness, I apologize for my post. And I apologize for the experiences you had with some mentally disturbed Gator fans… that’s pretty horrifying, actually. I will say, however, that I’ve been a Gator fan living in Georgia my whole life and I have encountered some situations with UGA fans over the years (i.e. last year when I went with some friends to the race, which just happened to be the day after UGA won) where I feared for my own personal safety, so I think that what you are referring to is unfortunately common across the board. Auburn fans, however, have, in my experience, been a refreshing exception. I have always said that my favorite group of opposing fans are from Auburn. Unfortunately (and I mean this as no disrespect to you), Georgia fans tend to be worse than any group of fans I’ve encountered b/c of the kinds of posts you see above (not that mine is much better, but I assure you that I talk trash not to be insulting, but to have a little fun… to me, it’s all part of it). I have several friends who are UGA fans (by-product of being a life-long GA native) and we are always jawing at each other in much the same way you see in my previous post.
I guess my point is this; if you’re going to blog, you might consider growing a thicker skin. These message boards are chalk full of this kind of drivel. And if anyone ever walks up and moons you, Gator, Dawg, or otherwise, it is completely acceptable (and possibly encouraged) to drop kick them in the bear a$$. Just some friendly advice. :))
gt4ever,
I sincerely apologize for having offended your delicate sensibilities. I wasn’t aware that Tech actually had any fans, so I can’t really comment on your contribution to college football fandom. At any rate, that was a great win for you guys in Athens… it really opened my eyes about what Paul Johnson is accomplishing there. You and your friends should get ready for some pretty good football in the coming years… hope y’all can handle athletic success at Tech… it might interfere with study time for exams, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out… after all you do go to Tech, which makes you smarter than 99 % of the rest of us (and that’s no joke).
Anyway, both of you take care. Just know that anything said from this Gator is not meant to be taken seriously.
Go Gators!!

Blognostibator- A “spandex-challenged latent botox abuser?” I bet you thought that was really funny.
Brad- actually I thought your “jort envy” post was semi-humorous, much better than the posts I was referring to. My post was intended for the above comments that aren’t even funny. If you can make it at least clever, it’s fine. Urban Crier, Timmy Teblow, and UGAy can only be funny so often. Like once. It’s getting pretty old. I just feel like I hear the same comments over and over again about who’s better than who and it would be more fun for me to read if they were actually funny and/or accurate. :) I don’t care about how “mean” the comment is just as long as it’s not the same old “you’re gay” or “you suck” stuff that we’ve heard since middle school. Blognostibator’s post is a prime example. See his above post about my “sister.” Anyways, I’ll be rooting for the Gators against OU. Here’s hoping the Dawgs can represent the SEC well in our bowl game…

AJ: Just to clarify, Florida lost to the fourth best SEC team, not the third. Ole Miss had a worse overall record, worse SEC record and worse final BCS standing than Georgia. Since the two did not meet head-to-head, these objective criteria are all we have to go by. I think it’s clear that Georgia was the SEC’s third best team. That’s not saying a lot this year, but it is what it is.
Warhorse: I’ll concede the sportsmanship point. We had a problem with penalties this season (often those of the stupid, drive-prolonging variety). But by the same token, the league’s second-most penalized team was…Florida. So pot, meet kettle.
And the academic comment was really unjustified. Only three SEC schools have been ranked among the top universities in the country: Vanderbilt (of course), Florida and Georgia. The “crayon” comment was completely inaccurate for a school with an SAT average of 1280 and average high school GPA of 3.75 for this year’s freshman class—not to mention the best Honors program in the south, and the school with the most Academic All-Americans in the history of the SEC.
Finally, once again, congrats to the Gators and the Tide for outstanding seasons. Call me an optimist, but I think this season will be instructive for Georgia. Hopefully, it will teach them all why football is a true team sport.
Lastly, I’ll concede that Tim Tebow—Heisman or not—is the best college football player in America. He proved it Saturday.
But he’s still no Herschel.

gatorsownbulldawgs:
I was curious when getting home from Atlanta today to see if anyone corresponded to my post. To be told, the friends that I stayed were Vandy grads. Don’t get so full of yourself thinking that only UGA people talk bad about you. You represent MOST of the Florida people I ran into during my visit to Atlanta. Very arrogant, rude and CLASSLESS!!!! I can give a flip about UGA. Not much of a going concern.
gatorsownbulldawgs: my guess is that the truth hurts because your post back to myself was absurd. Get a life my friend and stop being so parsimonious with the few brain cells you have left in that tiny little cranium you have. First and last time I’ll be posting here.
Parting shot: GO SOONERS!!!

BT - you come on here, make generalizations and trash all Florida people and then are offended and start calling names when there’s pushback? Really???
My post was absurd? You saying so doesn’t make it so. What about it was absurd, that there are some obnoxious fans at all the schools I mentioned??? You think we have a corner on it…now that is absurd!
Glad you are gone and your parting shot was nothing.

Mark Bradley opened his piece about the Gators with a crock. (hi mom). “Aggregation for the Ages”. The stupefying alignment of ill-fitted alliteration knocked him sideways, and his venture never recovered. The poor Dawg probably spent a half hour looking at the dictionary. He wanted it so bad he had to force it. Never force a bit. Ever. It’s like wasting a time out.
Then he describes the collapse of the Alabama defense, but doesn’t explain why. Does he possess so superficial an understanding of momentum swing, that any tipping point, no matter how obvious, eludes him?
I wont lecture about how every play must address the three great questions that have been handed down to us all by the ten trillion plays that came before it in the history of electric football, where all of today’s offensive schemes were born. I wont remind anyone that if you crimp the little plastic thingie underneath the little plastic player, he will turn in a large circle, perfect for the end sweep, and a sure six. I certainly dont need to reminisce about how loud your mother would yell if you played electric football in the living room. “Get that damn thing out of here!”
No, Mark Bradley must have been a deprived child, his parents unable to afford an electric football game.
And I think it’s a damn shame.

BullDawg79 - you say uf shouldnt play in the national championship game because they lost a home game. Are you not a fan of the same team that felt they should have played in the big game last year, eventhough, you (A) lost 1 home game to carolina (B) lost 1 away game to tenn and (C) didnt even represent your division in the sec title game…Wow, sure funny how opinions can change in a year.

Being a loyal Dawg fan for years and a bit of a Gator Hater, had to pull for the Tide, but I have to tip my hat to the Gators. Tim Tebow is a great football player who willed them to a victory. The Gators are going to do to the Sooners just exactly what they did to a constantly overrated Big 10 school a couple of years ago. Those Big 12 QB’s are talented but that entire conference has defenses rated in the bottom 30 out of 119 Div 1 schools and they leave their starters in till the end with 40 point margins…talk about padding stats!!! Yo Sooners, we are about to welcome another media hyped overrated team to another beatdown by a defense you haven’t come close to seeing all season, another SEC championship. And USC top 5? They get to play 9 Mississippi State teams year in and year out!!! My God, with that schedule, Vandy would be undefeated or at least 8-1 in that incredible conference. PAC 10, what a joke!

Ted, to you and all my Bulldog brethern out there, as much as I hate the Gators, they have represented the SEC in a great way. I work with an Alabama fan who is as obnoxious as they come. I hope the Gators kick the sh!t out of the Sooners……..do you know how hard that is for me(and a ton of bulldawgs) to say???? But seriously, you guys took care of business and deserve the chance to play in this game. I wish you guys nothing but good luok and please take care of Oklahoma.

Of all the 1 loss teams bama has the ‘best loss’ to a #2 gator team…this bcs system is a joke, how can you not even have the big 10, pac 10 even play a championship game. If that was the case in the sec, we would be champs and playing for all the marbles. But ‘it is what it is,’ congrats gators on a big win tebow is a special player enjoy him while you have him. Give saban 1 or 2 more of his recruiting classes and we can match you step for step.

Reports from Orlando are that Auburn has asked permission to speak to UCF coach George O’Leary about their opening. When asked about the resumé fiasco, AU AD Jay Jacobs reported said “We are looking for a Head Football coach, not an English professor”.

Florida is light years away from Georgia. Meyer will do what it takes to win. Just think Florida has almost the whole team back and Georgia is going to lose its offensive firepower and with Willie Martinez as DC, oh my.

There was a time that the only thing Florida was great at was landing on probation. Most Gators these days don’t even know that Florida has been on probation more than once and they don’t want to talk about anything that happened before 1990 when Spurrier arrived. I can’t blame them because nothing happened in the 90 years prior to his homecoming. It’s time to go back to the future!

Florida may indeed win the NC. But as well as Bama has played, they are no Oklahoma.
Oklahoma over Florida in a smashmouth game.
