This blog has moved! Yes, already!

As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.

New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

Gailey outcry led to Tech to find ‘perfect fit’

Taz Anderson remembers how it was four months ago. Georgia was No. 1 in the country, and his little school had a new coach with a weird scheme. “My Georgia friends would say, ‘Do you really think that offense will work?’ Then they’d say, ‘We hope you have a nice year.’ It was condescending.”

Contrast that attitude with the one expressed by Georgia grad Saxby Chambliss, who saw Anderson at a fund-raiser Sunday night and, without mentioning an impending Senate runoff and without an iota of condescension, said: “Wasn’t that some game?”

Two days after Georgia Tech took down the mighty Bulldogs, Taz Anderson is smiling still. He’s having lunch at a restaurant across Paces Ferry from his Vinings office, and he’s trying hard to be magnanimous — “I played in the game where Theron Sapp scored and they broke their drought [against Tech], so I know how it feels,” he says — but sometimes it’s a losing effort.

Just once in our lives, each of us deserves to be as right about something as Anderson, who’s 70 and who played and served as a captain under Bobby Dodd, was about the state of Tech football. It was Anderson, the forthright Atlanta entrepreneur, who publicly griped about the extension of Chan Gailey’s contract in 2005 — “I’m disappointed Georgia Tech would expect mediocrity in anything,” he said — and has long touted the merits of Paul Johnson.

In 1999, Anderson made the trek to Chattanooga to watch Johnson’s Georgia Southern Eagles beat Youngstown State (coached by Jim Tressel) 59-24 for the Division I-AA championship.

“I wanted to see his offense,” Anderson says. “It was a cold and rainy day, and they didn’t fumble once. And [GSU’s] Adrian Peterson made one of the greatest runs I’ve ever seen.”

Anderson admits he doesn’t know Johnson well — “We played golf together,” he says — but figures he knows a leader when he sees one. “We’ve got two good ones at Tech,” he says. “[Athletics director] Dan Radakovich is very good at what he does. I told him after he fired Chan, ‘That took some guts.’ “

As for Johnson … well, Taz can and will talk all day. “He’s had to take a lot of grief [for that offense]. You really have to have faith in what you’re doing.”

Back to golf. Johnson and Anderson were paired together in the Bobby Dodd Classic, and they faced 240-yard second shots on a par-5. Anderson suggested laying up. Said Johnson: “I don’t think we should do that.”

Says Anderson, laughing: “And he knocks the ball on the green. He’s a good golfer.”

For all his prescience, Anderson doesn’t feel particularly prescient. Speaking of Gailey, he says: “I’m not a very good liar. I thought it was obvious we needed some changes.” Speaking again of Johnson: “Look what he’d done at the Naval Academy. His offense allows a team to be decent if it plays smart and doesn’t make any mistakes, and that was a perfect fit for Georgia Tech.”

Anderson didn’t make the trek to Athens for the game. “I have a 92-inch TV and a little bar and a bathroom. That’s all I need.”

He watched along with Ben Smith and Joe Delany, former Tech teammates. The Jackets trailed 28-12 after two quarters — “A long half,” Anderson said — and then everything changed. “We got the ball on the 40 and we were in the end zone one play later and then we were ahead. I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Having seen it once, he doesn’t really care if he does again anytime soon. Says Tazwell Anderson, happy at last: “I’m not really worried about next year. Until then, we’re still No. 1 in the state.”

I wonder how Taz feels about Paul Hewitt?? Could be revealing, even if he is not a “basketball” man. I find it very concerning that Anthony Morrow is lighting up the NBA scoreboards, but was unable to much here at Tech.

Most of us Techsters are resigned to the fact we will not sign the likes of Tebow, Moreno, McCoy etc. every year. So why not run an offense that depends on perfect execution by intelligent players that were not quite a fit in another program. We will produce our share of pro players and when we have to throw it, we’ll be able to. I don’t recall a single game other than Gardner Webb, when anything other than turovers slowed us down. We did all that with players recruited to a pro-style offense, but stuck around and gave their all to a new style……the future looks bright.

First, Taz thanks for what you do for Georgia Tech. Second, I followed Paul Johnson and the triple option enough over the years. As soon as he was our coach I was pretty sure it would work here. I went to the spring game and it was not pretty. The defense was great though. My fear was it would be 2 years before the players “got it”. A lot of credit needs to go to Nesbitt, Shaw, Dwyer, Jones, Cox, and the rest for showing what intelligence can do for you!

And…it’s only going to get better!

I liked the Paul Johnson hire all along — here’s what I wrote afterward, with help from Taz — but that spring game put my faith (and I suspect the faith of a few other folks) to the test.

But not Paul Johnson. The man absolutely believes in what he’s doing, as much as any coach I’ve ever met.

Well done Jackets - many UGA fans are big Paul Johnson fans as well - and thought he was a great fit for Tech.

Really exposed what has been our achilles heal the entire season - special teams, lack of discipline on defense, bad tackling form on defense. Sometimes you need these type of games to improve - and man did GT expolit our weaknesses in the second half.

Hope that next year - both teams will be undefeated headed into this game. I would love to see that every year. The attention to this STATE would be fantastic!

Jacket Fans - what would your opinion be about re-joining the SEC?

Here is how it would work:

  • ARK to Big 12 (natural geo. fit and rivals with TX, MO, OK).

  • IA State to Big 10 - giving them 12 teams!!!

  • Syracuse to ACC.

  • KY to SEC West - becomes Tech’s permanent west foe.

Think of fun having TN, FL, UGA, SC, KY, and Vandy at Bobby Dodd as permanent opponents - and Auburn, Bama, LSU rotating in.

I would go to Bobby Dodd to watch GT/TN, GT/AUB, GT/LSU, GT/BAMA - if the Dawgs are away.

Remember the atmosphere when Auburn was at Bobby Dodd a few years ago?

Don’t think Jackets can compete? Well ask Auburn, Miss State and UGA how they did on their most recent games against GT.

BE HONEST - does BC/GT, Duke/GT, NC/GT, Wake/GT, NCSTATE/GT, VT/GT, Maryland/GT really excite you?

Again - congrats on your victory.

Mark, not sure who Taz was referring to, but Adrian Peterson played at Oklahoma, not Georgia Southern.

BOB - In case the point had escaped you, Tech has lost the previous seven games to Georgia in any and all manner: close games, blow outs, questionable fumbles, phantom holding calls etc. Take it easy on the Yellow Jacket faithful. I think we’ve all put up with enough crap the last seven years to justify one unproductive Monday.

hey taz thanks for helping us push gailey out. i guess braineless was wrong on the 7 wins a season. ya think?

now if you could whisper a thought into drads ear about teflon paul.

if you thought gailey was mediocre i can only imagine what you think about our current all suit no coach paul hewitt. as can be seen by the results on the court and empty seats along the court he is tearing down what bobby built. brick by brick. (pun intended)

i guess paul thinks that gt is his personal semi pro team. a team he uses to funnel ‘black’ players into the nba.

does he work for the nba or does he work for gt? i personally could care less about the nba. i care about gt.

hey paul, maybe its time to put aside the personal instruction time and practice as a team.

its a shame that ph wont seriously recruit good white players unless its as an afterthought. hey we do need practice players… right?

whenever this is brought up on the hive fans of hewitt point out any number of white players he has offered schollies to. problem being that when you go to scout or rivals they NEVER show a schollie being offered to a white kid. who is he trying to kid? just ask angus.

i think he fits president of the BCA better than he does coach at gt. let the BCA buy out ph’s contract.

btw anyone wanna bet that favors does not pick gt ala morris aka ‘sike’.

What Taz demanded of the GT brain-trust is identical to what UGA fans are asking of Richt in regard to CWM. Contrary to what the CWM apologists will try to tell you, a coach who demands excellence and discipline can make all the difference at this level.

A coach who accepts mediocrity will likely get exactly that.

TAZ how come I don’t see your name on any of the Georgia Tech STAT Sheets as a leading anything? You spend money and now your FAMOUS TECH buddy K. KING is dead. Thanks for loving TECH but FU for HATING TECH at the same time. Larry, George, and Randy don’t always seem to agree with you, but you still BULL your way into the picture. Is John D in your pocket to? You are the same kind of A$$ that tried to get T. Tubberware out at Auburn behind everyones back. I went to Pepper Rogers Football School with Larry’s boy SHAN(Auburn Player) and Denton( Buckey Shamburggers lil Bro) Tech player but I think I met your son or family member with the GREAT “ANDERSON” name? I hope the down turn in the REAL ESTATE market has not hurt you or John “the A*” Dewberry. I talk to L.G often enough about TECH and you seem to think TECH is your puppet. THANKS for doing good for the school, but FU for making things RUFF & TUFF on good men. Enjoy your power now but all things come to an END (money includeded). Why isn’t there a TAZ ANDERSON named anything on campus? Hell I played ball with Harry Meir (BUTTS-MEIR), Gordon Muir (the Varsity), Blake Lane( LANE Stadium) why hasn’t TECH paid you the great Tribute to put your name on anything other than a TOILET? CW, Catch a clue.. You’re right Mark…AP was good enough to have his number retired at Ga. Southern then hang around with the Bears for quite a while.
Back to the topic… I took my 10 y/o son to the spring game. He looked at me after the first few possessions and said, “Daddy, they look pretty awful”. I agreed. Then replied, “give him (CPJ) some time and be patient”. My son just learned a valuable lesson in patience and hard work. Um, Ogeechee Dawg, Adrian Peterson was not deaf. He has a serious stuttering problem. He actually had more college rushing yards than Oklahoma’s AP. 48 consecutive games of 100+ yards, including 333 against UMASS in a playoff game. He is a backup RB for the Bears and plays on special teams as well.

Mr. Anderson you are correct..PJ beat the H—- out of Tressel. As I said yesterday..Paul Johnson is a great coach. He may not win them all but he never stops doing right. I remember when Notre Dame talked to him just as a courtesy I think. What a mistake they made..Charlie Weiss..Charlie who. There were several other schools that talked with Paul over the years but did not believe in his system. We at GSU knew better…we believed and won National Championships..so will Tech..just give it some time and good recruiting.

I for one am glad to see the series turn competitive again as it forces us to get better or get beat. GT will NEVER again become a member if the SEC! NEVER.

Pious and the almighty GT left the SEC(they thought they were bigger than the SEC) goint out on their own to become a powerful independant….the Notre Dame of the south, if you will.

When the SEC did decide to expand to 12 teams in 1990, the first 2 schools sent invitations were FSU, and Miami. They refused, opting for the ACC. According to Bobby Bowden, this would give them a much easier path to the BCS championship game.

You can rest assured that if and when the SEC considers expansion again,GT will not be a candidte!!

Leaving the SEC was the worst thing that EVER happened to GT football….and as a result GT football will NEVER be the same!!!

The next 2 schools considered was Texas and Texam A&M

Mr.techwrecked..again… The worst thing that ever happened to Tech ? Worse than Bill Lewis ? Chan Gailey ? Seriously, I think it was a dumb move, although I was far too young to understand it at the time. In retrospect, what’s done is done and the goal is always to get better. GT has stumbling along the way doing that, but it looks like the wheel is in steady hands now and Tech will overcome the negativism of the type you exude. Why right at this very moment they are the best team in this great state…

Re: SEC rejoin. I was there when the decision was made (1964-1968) and regretted it at the time. I think joining the ACC was the best move for us and still is, even though we now have more “powers”, i.e., Miami and FSU, in particular. But when you compare us to the Football Factories at Athens, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Knoxville, Gainesville - no, I don’t want to go back into that mess. Lets be competitive where we are, beat the dawgs like a rented mule, and pick up some more hardware on the way.

Speaking of which, congratulations to all our All-ACC guys.

WE HAVE MORE TO DO:

Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush’s Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.

At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.

You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don’t have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.

He supposedly works for you. But he doesn’t think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn’t that just make you BURRING MAD!

Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family’s, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.

Don’t let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He’s not one of you. He is on George Bush’s side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.

Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.

As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss “Let Them Eat Cake” vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don’t have to be Saxby Chambliss’s victims anymore.

I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.

God bless all of you

We all owe Chan Gailey and Bobby Petrino a debt of gratitude, had they both not taken their teams to the lowest of lows, neither organization would have had to take such drastic steps to rebuild and this time do it THE RIGHT WAY!

Go Jackets! Go Falcons!

All poorly coached teams should look at the wonderful work done by the new regimes at Tech and the Falcons.

Why not run an offense that depends on perfect execution by intelligent players?

Kudos to Paula Johnson for beating us Dawgs. He kept his poise and put his team in position to win it. Can’t and shouldn’t take anything away from that. Tech certainly looked like the “smarter” team….making fewer mistakes…and deserving to win. However I want to add to quick sidebars: 1) to read anything else into this other than Tech beating UGA once every 8 years….or not to acknowledge that the Dawgs “handed” them the game on a silver (or gold) platter is ludicrous. 2) not to be ugly, but Coach Johnson looks like Jethro Bodene wearing his GT hat all eyed. 3) I GUARANTEE you Tech won’t beat UGA again for the next several years…said another way, no one on the current UGA roster will card another loss to the nerds. And yes, please put that on the door of the jackets locker room.

This was a good column, Mark. I had opposed Taz for a long time in getting rid of Chan. And when Giff Smith became RC, it looked like we had truly turned the corner. But last year convinced me if Chan returned to the NFL, everyone concerned would be better off.

Paul Johnson is indeed a perfect fit, and I believe his system, as only he can coach it, will bring Tech lots of good fortune. Our ticket/attendance obstacle will soon be removed, and our next attendance problem will be enlarging Bobby Dodd Stadium.

I was a fan of our rejoining the SEC until lately. This will sound pompous, but I really dont think we will need any help drawing and playing first class opponents. I can see us scheduling the likes of Texas, OSU, and USC in the very near future. We have Ole Miss scheduled for10 and 11 I believe, but Nutt wants to back out. I guess hes been watching.

By Gailey Can't Coach

December 1, 2008 11:00 PM | Link to this

Mark Bradley:

How bout a shout-out to all of the TRUE GT FOOTBALL FANS who may not have the power and moneybags of Taz, but we filled the blogs with post after post of how it was absolutely necessary to FIRE CHAN GAILEY (guaranteed contract and all) in order for GT Football to move forward once again? Taz is ONE while we are many…

You may recall that actually convincing ANYONE in power at GT, yes DanRad included, that Gailey must go was a monumental task in itself! In fact, I still have a Jan 2007 e-mail (following one of Gailey’s infamous snatching defeat from the jaws of victory games against WVU in the 2007 Gator Bowl) from DanRad explaining “how difficult a coaching change would be.”

I guess empty seats speak louder than print! By the end of Nov 2007, firing Gailey no longer seemed “difficult” for DanRad…Of course it was still absolutely necessary! MANY, MANY people helped Gailey find the bus out of town in their own little ways…

Remember firechangailey.com and canchan.com, etc and the many postings here at the AJC blogs blasting Gailey’s ineptness and his “sleepwalking on the sidelines”? How bout the blog postings attacking the AJC writers who repeatedly DEFENDED Gailey to the end…How do you like me NOW, Terence Moore (now Paul Johnson’s Press Corp Fan Club President)?

So while reminiscing about the “Gailey outcry” that led to the hiring of Paul Johnson, the story is incomplete without even a mention of all of us who devoted many hours day and night posting well into the night and doing the “little things” that don’t punch you in the face like a barked order from Taz. We too are enjoying the jackpot payoff of our efforts! And we didn’t do it for self-glory…We did it because we care about GT Football.

Sometimes a contract buyout can be a beautiful thing.

We are talking about one man who did or did not change history of GT football. Thank you Taz for your insight but D Rad was going to fire Chan anyway. Empty seats and many many letters to the AD office ensured that.

Hats of the UGA for a hard fought game. That was a great up tempo game w/ no defense what so ever. Makes for an instant classic.

And for SOME of you ingnorant UGA fans, if you had won on Saturday, you would be celebrating and beaming too. You aren’t the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think we are celebrating the fact that we have garnered some respect back w/in our own backyard. That’s all. UGA will always be a top tier team but it now appears that Tech will too. Now isn’t that a great thing for the state of Georgia??? Get off your high horses and rep our state well in your bowl game.

I think the worst thing that has ever happened to Tech in any way, shape, or form was when some genius decided to teach UGA fans to use the internet…

Why should we rejoin the SEC? It’s fallen on hard times — two elite teams, UGA, maybe Ole Miss, and a bunch of teams who are at best mediocre. I say we stay right where we are — the ACC has shown itself to be one of the most difficult overall conferences in the nation. We may not have an Alabama or a Florida, but we have 5-7 teams that could give UGA a run for its money. And that’s more than I can say for the SEC right now.

Glad to see Taz still with the Georgia Tech passion as deep as ever.

I’ve worked with him over the years and he’s long been one of Atlanta’s unsung heroes - always working, creating, motivating, passionate about success and accomplishment; for Atlanta as well as GT.

Sure wish GA Tech would publicly honor him somehow. Taz’s boosterism and team play accomplishments back in the day are stuff thatcan motivate young people to stay involved beyond football and something Tech would be wise to instill.

Not a bad example for us UGA grads either.

nebraska fan… your name calling doesnt make your opinion true but rather is just makes you look rather fool..ish.

who is the head of the BCA… ph.

who said that raising the scholastic requirements for incoming athletes by the ncaa was RACIST… ph. (an all this time i thought we were supposed to graduate folks)

who said at MORE than one school function that it was his responsibility to attract black bb players to gt and make sure they graduate or get to the nba… ph. (is it not enough that 90%+ of the team is black? does he have a quota?)

who commented last year that he knew about the white fr center at ut but he didnt bother to recruit him after same said center helped destroy gt in a game… ph.(the question is why?)

which coach has not recruited a significant good white bb player in 9 years… ph. NINE YEARS. (i cant name ONE can you?)

which coach recruited a black player named southal (he was second or 3d choice on a list of black players btw) to play for gt only to have him jailed for dealing drugs. yet only after this happened did LUKE S get a schollie as a last resort… ph. (starting to get the picture now?)

which coach while having a terrible record with one n dones is continuing to recruit the no 1 player in the country who is black. said player has been stringing gt along in the exact same fashion that randolph ‘sike’ morris did a few years back. meanwhile, a white 4 star center doesnt have an offer… ph. (shades of ut all over again)

which coach flew all over the globe recruiting ‘black’ talent such a our last two superstars in waiting (mohommed faye and that guard who also transfered ?) rather than look a bit closer for a good player of any color right here in the usa… ph (various hoop junkies said that both these guys were lazy and had minimal bb skills)

id bet that if you looked at every acc team the only team that doesnt have at least 1 or 2 white players in their top 7 man rotation is gt. (imagine that)

all of the above comments have one theme. ph has a chip on his shoulder. he still thinks this is the 60s. maybe he got that from jamaca where he grew up.

sorry to disappoint you but there are black folks who are every bit as racist as some white folks. that is fact. whites dont have the patent on racism.

why do you think that nary a single great white player wants to play for ph? why? because they can sense what ph is REALLY about imo. he is such a great recruiter but he cant recruit a great white player to save his A##. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!

all this is not about coaching a bb team but rather it is furthering his own agenda.

sorry but agenda’s need to be left to organizations like the BCA. they have no business at gt or on our team.

Well put above, Ogeechee Dawg. I agree will it all, including the conference shakeups. Then we’d really get to see who the best SouthernEC teams are… GT included. It’s too bad the Ga. Southern Adrian Peterson hasn’t been given a real chance at Chicago even though he has a 5+ yards per carry average as a pro. Maybe Arthur could bring him back home for the locals to cheer for. He would be a great backup for Michael Turner with the Falcons

Well Techies, I guess you were due. I’d still rather have wins in 7 ourt of 8 years than just winning once in 8 years. The bad thing about the whole thing for Tech is that this is Paul Johnsons best season he will ever have at tech. He is downhill from here and doubtful he will win the Bowl game. Tech still sucks.

I have just two questions, 1. Is it true that CPJ never played any college ball and if it is true, then how does he know ANYTHING about the game? 2. Was Coach Paul Johnson born in this country? I think one of the prerequisites for being Ga. Tech Coach is that you have to be a natural born citizen. Someone from Georgia Southern told me he was born in Lichtenstein. If that is the case then the guy needs to be gone!

What a great win for the Blacksmiths on Saturday in Athens. The downside is that no matter that we beat Georgia and no matter that we will get a decent bowl. No matter that we win our bowl…NO MATTER WHAT! We, Georgia Tech, will always be known as a basketball school. The only people who will remember that we beat Georgia on Saturday will be Georgia and Georgia Tech. We will never get the respect from the “football nation” as long as we play in the ACC. We need to get back into the SEC so that we can play the high caliber teams every year. This is the best year we’ve had in years and we’re not going to get the recognition for it that we deserve. Georgia, on the other hand, given that they win their bowl game will end the season ranked about 12th or 13th and will most assuredly start the preseason next year in the top 10. I realize that it doesn’t mean anything in the big picture. They were ranked #1 preseason this year and now look at them. My point is, they will get the recognition and we won’t. Oh yeah! and did y’all know that CPJ has never played any college ball?

Gailey should have been fired in Athens after his first Georgia game. The team acted like they didn’t even want to be there and Georgia hung something like 50 on them. While he may be a good man he wasn’t what Tech needed. What Tech needed was a strong willed coach like O’Leary was that demands discipline and accountability. We now have that in spades with Paul Johnson. Also he’s got enough of a cocky edge to him to absolutely drive the Dawg fans crazy. Give him a raise and let him recruit players he thinks actually match his system and get the popcorn ready. No matter how good a season the Dawgs have every year, Mark Richt knows he’s gonna have to deal with that offense every year.

Hey, winning that game was great fun but re-joining the SEC, whoa. Thinking GT folks cannot be interested. The academic quality of the ACC institutions, in the main, is simply much higher. Look it up and get serious please.

ACC has schools of higher academic ranking than the SEC and is therefore the place Georgia Tech belongs. Also, with all the new dynamic coaches in the ACC currently- we are a good conference and will be better. SEC is over rated.

By BobbyDodd

December 2, 2008 7:37 AM | Link to this

Tech will not rejoin the SEC. 1. There is no movement for this to happen. 2. Tech would probably lose money since the ACC has traditionally paid out the most per team. 3. UGA prevented Tech’s reentry years ago (in the early 70’s) and I doubt they would support Tech’s rejoining now. 4. Tech could certainly gain the support of the nation if FSU, Miami and Clemson were powers rather than sinking programs due to lack of top tier coaches. They certainly recruit with the likes of the SEC’s best but never perform (over the past several years). 5. What is a good reason to even pursue the move? Just to try and gain the support of more Georgians? That will never happen as long as Tech has 14,000 students. Tech would have to offer Liberal Arts degress like education and the Social Sciences to boost enrollment and thus produce alumni that largely stay in state. The local poultry plants are truly filled with UGA grads as management/supervision and of course realty, banking, and education are largely led by UGA grads.

I was gonna say something smarta** about Taz The Entrepreneur, whose only claim to fame are the tacky Peach Signs on either side of town, the flashing message board in front of the North Ave Trade School (I thought those were against the law on Interstates) and his attempt to con a local corporation, any local corporation, to pay $10 million to sponsor a big tower behind the Varsity as part of Atlanta’s ‘Tackiest Olympics Ever’ effort. But it would appear that ‘P-on-a-dog’ beat me to it. Now that’s a man that knows his Tech Alums.

Assuming Bradley, who is as big a bandwagon jumper as any fairweather fan around, is telling the truth about Taz being an early proponent of Paul Johnson, he’s - Anderson - about the only one. Not a single one of ‘my’ Tech friends had anything positive to say about the Paul Johnson hire (other than they got rid of Chan Gailey). Now, of course, they’re gonna have to lease some cars from MARTA for the bandwagon - no since building any cause they’re gonna go back next year, or at least the year after.

We lost, but those of us with faith in Mark Richt’s judgment and talent, and, Coach Martinez’s ability know we’ll be back on a streak with Tech and in the hunt for the SEC East championship…of course we could use a little help with Stafford and Moreno gettin’ ‘pi**ed’ about that Tech thing and coming back for a bit of revenge.

You nerds beat a injury plaqued, undisciplined and underacheiving UGA team and you act like you won the national championship! Truth is, Tech played the absolute best game they could possibly play and still barely won. Despite outgaining Tech comfortably and having seven more first downs, UGA was once again their own worst enemy while committing two costly turnovers and untimely drive killing penalities in the forth qtr. Enjoy this why you can geeks. We will be back. We are still king in this state and will always be. We will claim victory next year in your crappy little stadium in front of your crappy little fan base. Your offense will get figured out. Why do you think 98% of NCAA teams and 0% of NFL teams don’t run that high school s**? Figure it out Techies. All that being said, I STILL want to congraulate you on your win….you took advantage of the gifts UGA gave you and made us pay. Just do yourselves a favor…act like you’ve been there before! are you joking? Have you not watched the past 7 years? We basically gave the Dawgs the last 7 years worth of games due to Reggie Ball and Chan Gailey and most of the games were decided by less than 7 points. In my mind, things are evening out slightly. And we still spotted the dawgs a 28-12 lead and you STILL blew it. There were no gifts. And we were playing with a depleted secondary and a patch-work offensive line consisting of tight ends.

A few thoughts prompted by this blog: UGAG fans sure are quick to rip their own team and downplay the Tech win. Almost as quick as they were to buy into all the preseason #1 hype. It’s a long fall from #1 in the nation to #2 in the state, isn’t it? As far as Tech rejoining the SEC - WHY? Does anyone who suggests this know how much money the ACC brings in with it’s basketball tournament, network contracts, and national exposure? By the way, getting back to football - this year the ACC was 6-3 against the mighty SEC. Face it, this year the SEC has two very good teams and not much else.

barely won? How about your top 10 UGA teams barely beating the inept Chan Gailey/Reggie Ball teams by less than 10 points? Talk about teams that didn’t care about the rivalry (“it’s just a game dawg.”). If we didn’t throw INT’s or fumble the ball that led to TD’s so many times, we would have won those games. Now THOSE were gifts. This past Saturday, we ran all over your defense like other teams we played prior to that. Keep thinking you will stop the offense because we are only running 25% of our playbook and Paul Johnson has said we are not very good even after scoring 45 points. Chan Gailey was the worst hire and the worst coach in the history of college football. He should NEVER have been hired and he should have been fired after one year. Anyone that supported his hiring, or defended him during his tenure sucks just as bad as he does. Tech should never have had to endure a coach as bad as Gailey. We prefer to be called “59-29 nation”. You call a pick-six and a fumble inside the red zone no gifts? That’s 14 points worth of gifts. And you want to talk about a patch work o-line? Puleeze…we’re about as patch work as you can get. But at the end of the day, Tech is still not a program that comes to mind when you talk about the powerhouse programs in college football…not even close. And you know what else, you know it! You can’t say you don’t know it! It’s true. What has your football program done in the last 15 years? Where do you rank among the winningest programs in, say, the last 20 years? Hell, the last 5 years? Go look up where UGA stacks up in the last 5,10 years. One word comes to mind: ELITE. Georgia is one of the elite programs in the country. Not only in football but our athletic programs as a whole. Ever heard of the NACDA Cup? Of course not. It used to be called the Sears Directors cup and it ranks the nations top all around athletic programs. UGA has routinely finished in the top 10, mixed in with a few top 5’s and even a #2 final ranking a few years back. Tech? Nowhere to be found in the top 40 ever and finished out of the top 50 last year. You had never won a national championship in any sport other than football until you won a title in womens tennis in ‘06! Pathetic. Too bad the NCAA doesn’t recognize Dungeons and Dragons or Star Trek trivia as official sports or you might have a few more in the trophy case over on North Ave. Enjoy your win. When the SEC did decide to expand to 12 teams in 1990, the first 2 schools sent invitations were FSU, and Miami. They refused, opting for the ACC. According to Bobby Bowden, this would give them a much easier path to the BCS championship game.

I love how when you lose the game, the turnovers you commit are “gifts”, but when you when it, the turnovers you get are just evidence of your team being good. Call em gifts if you want. I don’t care. A good team doesn’t give them away like that. The fact that they coughed up two big turnovers like they did just flies in the face of your belief that UGA is some huge, powerful force.

Now it’s back to the usual, I suppose…”We’re better than Tech. We have better players, better recruits, better coaching, better fans, a better stadium, etc.” Well, then…Why did you lose? Yes, UGA is a good team, but to be great you have to win games you’re not necessarily supposed to win (UF, Bama) and you definitely have to win games you are supposed to win. You know, like Tech, compared to whom you have better players, better recruits, better coaching, better fans, a better stadium, etc.

Now you’re bringing other sports into the mix…Outstanding! It’s funny how whenever Tech beats UGA in basketball, all the Bulldog fans I know say, “I don’t care about basketball. Football’s what I care about.” Now that Tech beats UGA in what was supposed to be a National Championship season, you’re bringing in all the other sports out there? That’s not even remotely the point. The point is that UGA completely underperformed this year, was clearly overrated in the preseason rankings, and cannot compete with the country’s elite teams. Which leads me to my conclusion: Take your fanaticism and cram it. We won this year; we get to be proud of it. If Tech is as bad as y’all have tried to say over the past 7 years, then Georgia truly blows. You don’t want us to gloat? Try showing a little respect every now and then.

Marsh Dawg …. make sure you pay CLOSE attetion to the CSS replay of “45-42” and you will see how lucky the Jackets were, and how perfect (NOT) they played.

Let me help you in case you miss all the chances Tech gave GA (to keep the game close).

Pay close attention to Tech’s 3rd down defense. If they played a perfect game, then GA 3rd down conversions would’ve been more like 3 out 13 instead of 6 for 13, and the Jackets would have probably scored in the 50’s while GA was in the 20’s, if not less.

Notice that GA scored 3 of it’s 6 TDs on 3rd down, and a 4th TD on 4th down.

Notice on the tackle eligible play late in the 3rd qtr. that if the first block on Rennie Curren (#35) was not a cut block, but a solid stand-up block, then Austin Barrick either scores a TD or at worst has a first down inside the 5 yd line; probably resulting in a TD, and 42-28 lead instead of a FG, 38-28 lead.

MAKE SURE you take note of the missed INT Michael Johnson had on GA’s 6th TD drive. Which was followed by a PERFECT defensive stop by the Jackets on 3rd & 20 (not), which was then capped-off with AJ Green scoring on…3rd down.

You have two (2) chances to catch TECH’s perfect game today, 12/02/2008; at either 3pm or 9pm, channel 45 on Comcast.

After seeing it, if you still don’t think Tech, if it played a perfect game, wouldn’t have beaten GA as bad or worse than FLA did, then you are in denial, and need to see an optometrist. But here’s the simple truth that it’s obvious you just can’t seem to handle …. GT didn’t play a perfect game, and STILL beat the vaunted GA bulldogs. GA is not going to be very successful in this rivalry game as long as PJ is in town.

Brunswick Marsh Dog…you are PATHETIC. You keep trying to persuade yourself that UGA’s football team is a top team nationaly year after year. That’s fine with me. Heck I wanted UGA ranked #1 going into the GT game. That is so when GT beat them on the road GT would get the attention it deserves. UGA got their arses kicked by the only other two other teams they played. Face it, UGA is the most overrated football program in Div 1 year in and year out. Heck this year the SEC conference as a whole is a complete joke! UF and Alabama are the ONLY two teams the deserve any respect. UGA is still only in the top 25 because the voters don’t want the SEC to look soooo bad when the bowl games role around. Face it, it doesn’t matter who UGA gets in players or coaches, it will always be the athletic dissappointment in the State of GA and the whole U.S……… Tech 45 UGA 42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to GT on the victory over UGA. It has been nauseating to hear about how superior the SEC was throughout the season, especially by all the sportscasters who kept parroting each other’s broadcasts. The SEC has a couple of great teams, but the difference between the conferences isn’t that great.

A big challenge that ACC teams have is that they have to travel long distances for away games with extreme differences in weather conditions. If an SEC team had to travel to Maryland or Boston in November to play an away game, I’m not sure they would have an easy time even if they were a better team.

GT, I hope you stay in the ACC. I think it’s a good fit, because your players like to graduate. btw, does anyone know the graduation rates for GT and UGA football players? What are the prospects for all the football players who don’t get drafted by the NFL?

Go ACC!

45-42….I did watch the replay last night on Comcast. And your right, Tech did not play a perfect game. However, UGA turned the ball over twice, directly resulting in 14 points for the Jackets. That was clearly the difference in the game….period. You can say all you want about probably this and probably that or 3rd down this and third down that, but we can say the same exact thing. Feeble attempts to tackle by Elerbe and Jones on two long Tech touchdown runs where they were easily in position to make the tackle, the 45 yard completion to deep inside Tech territory that was called back on a phantom holding call that, as you say, “probably” would have resulted in a UGA touchdown, (we end up punting),etc., etc.,. We could beat that horse all day long. Bottom line, Tech took care of the ball, Georgia did not. Turnovers are part of the game. Tech came into the game having put the ball on the ground I think 33 times. Kudos to them for not making it 34. BTW,”the jackets would have probably have scored in the 50’s while GA was in the 20’s, if not less”…whatever…dream on! Be happy with your 3 point win. Wasn’t that the same point diff you beat Gardner-Webb by?

Brunswick Marsh Dawg - just a little p** off are you? Hehehehe. The streak is at one - and we own it. If the situation had been reversed, you would be the one gloating. I have to admit, most of the dawg fans have been very decent - you are an exception. Be careful though, if your missing your top three players, you aren’t going to have much of a team left. Keeping your Def Coach isn’t going to help your either. Next year, in our house, it starts all over again!

Ok, I’ll be the first Tech fan to say that we need to get rid of Paul Johnson now!!! The win over UGAY was nice, but our defense is awful!!! Any real offense has torched us this year. UGAY scored 42 on us which is more than they scored on any other BCS team next year. If it wasn’t for their terrible defense, we would have lost badly. The truth to the matter is that once people start figuring out our offense - which they already have started doing - we will be lucky to win 6 games. Imagine what next year will look like with 3/4 of our defensive line gone. A terrible defense and an offense that has been blue printed. We need to fire Johnson and hire Charlie Strong as our head coach. He will bring a defensive presence similar to what Tenuta had AND he will bring a spread offense that will be lethal. If we keep Johnson, this 9-3 season will be the high point for a very, very long time.

CW and Ogeechee Dawg,

As both of you have now learned, yes, CW, there was an Adrian Peterson at Georgia Southern, where he set the all-time Division I rushing record (look it up - 9,000 yards and change) and Ogeechee Dawg, he hears just fine. Talking? Well … but you won’t find a nicer guy than GSU’s AP. A great person all the way around. AP was also the hardest working player PJ had at Georgia Southern. He wasn’t just the best. Nobody outworked him, either. And jacksmith, you wanna take that diatribe over to Jim Wooten’s blog instead, please? Can we keep this channel clear for football talk? And fire paul johnson now!? Are you out of your mind? Georgia’s got four first-round draft picks on offense - Stafford, who will probably go No. 1 overall, Moreno, the freshman receiver, A.J. Green, and Massaquoi, and our defense was missing its best corner, its best LB, the best LB’s top backup and I give Bobo a lot of credit for a terrific game plan. Going to three and four receiver sets kept the Jackets from bringing an extra rusher or two and give the Bulldogs a mismatch they desired — their two great receivers on Tech’s shaky coverage. Very well done. And that defense had played pretty damn good for most of the season. Nothing against Charlie Strong, who deserves a HC shot, but we’ve got the right folks in place now - for once.

Wait and see, stinger splash! Like I said, I’m glad we finally beat UGAY. But our defense has been atrocious this year. UGAY scored more points on us than any other BCS school they played. Tenuta would have never let this happen. Johnson is fooling everyone with a gimmick offense. This is only a short term solution. Other teams have already started figuring it out. Once this happens, we are going to be very low tier because we have no defense. I don’t care who was out. Anyone who wants to blame the defensive performance on injuries sounds like those redneck UGAY fans. UGA may have 4 first rounders, but again, they scored more points against us than they did any other BCS team. Not good. Not good at all. We need to can Johnson now while we still have momentum and confidence on our side. It won’t be there next year.

Brunswick Marsh Dawg, you are bitter for good reason. But you have yet to dredge the depths of bitterness. Let me help:

Tech cleared the way for UGA’s in-state recruiting when the Jackets pulled out of the SEC after 1963.

Tech nonetheless has a better bowl winning percentage than UGA: .629 to .594

Tech holds the consecutive wins record over UGA - 8 wins.

Tech has won 4 national championships to only 1 for UGA.

Tech won the 59-game Tech-UGA Freshman football series by 2 games - a series never to be renewed, or taken away.

Tech counts every game, even if we lose big, because the teams showed up in their uniforms, and the fans bought tickets in good faith. UGA won’t count their two consecutive losses to Tech, 48-0 and 44-0, because “that just can’t happen.”

Tech holds an insurmountable lead over UGA in their all-time bounce-ball rivalry.

Tech’s lead over UGA in baseball is also uncatchable, at least in our lifetimes.

All this has been accomplished without descending to the squalor of “Football Factory-hood.” There is good in the world, if we look for it.

I’m tired of UGAg fans giving us a hard time for being excited about this win (like BOB)…

Ask a UGA fan how it felt after beating UF last year… I mean come on, twice in 10 years/3 times in 19 years… you guys should know exactly how we feel.

This is the dawn of a new era in Tech football and I hope that the spark has been returned to this rivalry!

Brunswick stew and that dog with a “fire” handle (cannot be Tech man—-too dumb) evidently do not understand the Johnson perfect option. First half, georgie played one style D. First play of second half, Johnson makes a change and the single georgie cover guy missed…six. A setup all the way!

Next game, if needed, Johnson will pass. He already did that this season. Mr Johnson cannot be predetermined.

The pick6 was no accident…the Tech back was in the designated position…and he made the play. The fumble probably was just a georgie flub…not Tech induced. Stuff happens.

“D” atrocious all year….must be kidding….Tech held GW to seven! lol

I could hold GW to seven points!!! Get real!!! Our defense is awful! AWFUL!!!! If we don’t fire Johnson now, and I mean RIGHT NOW, we are just setting purselves up for a HUGE disappointment next year and the year after and the year after. UGAY knows the only reason we won or were even in position to win was because they forgot how to tackle in the second half. They will fix that problem. We should have blown them out of the water. Stafford threw for 400 yds the first time in his career. Get Charlie Strong in there and we will beat UGAY every year. EVERY YEAR!!! Keep Johnson and we will be lucky to win one more in the next 8 years. We will see more scores like the 2002 game. Johnson is a joke!!!! Charle Strong would have us unbeaten right now!!

Yes, the Gardner-Webb game in which we started our third-string QB who is not at all equipped to run the Johnson’s offense. And go check on GW’s record. I bet they’d give several of your vaunted SEC’s teams a run for their money. Tech was hurting, GW was amped to possibly take out a relatively big school…Tech came through in the end and won. How’d y’all do this past Saturday when you played that little school with a lot less talent that you were definitely supposed to beat?

Just a few observations from a UNC Tar Heel graduate: 1) Notwithstanding the improvements in the ACC, the SEC is still a more entertaining show, year in and year out. Legacy-wise, we still have a lot of catching up to do. 2) Georgia Tech is a first-class school and totally an asset to the ACC. I hope they stay. 3) However, I love reading about Tech’s old SEC rivalries, which I can’t remember (I am 57)—apparently so bitter with Alabama that magazine articles inspired by the rivalry ended up getting their publications sued. Furman Bisher, whom I respect greatly while still loving the Bryant legend (Yes, you can do that), is still lowly regarded in some quarters of Alabama for his comments of the time.

I can’t believe you actually invoked the name of Tenuta, the most overrated defensive coordinator in the country. Remember Matt Ryan did to the Jackets last year? Remember giving up a long touchdown pass to a bad N.C. State to lose at home two years ago? Or how about the 31 Georgia hung on Tech last year? It’s obvious you know very, very little about football. Gimmick offense? That posted back to back 400-yard rushing games against one of the best defenses in the country and then on the road against a team that was ahead by 16 points, and scored 26 unanswered points? We’ve got the best coach since Bobby Dodd at The Flats. Period. If you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you other than go support some other school because PJ is here to stay and we will play in the BCS title game within the next three years.

CALLING TOGETHER ALL TECH NERDS….. OK, ya’ll gather ‘round and listen to ya daddy…I have never seen or heard such celebration over a 9-3 season! You pointed heads act like you just won the national championship, for heavens sake. Yes, you should be proud…it was a nice win. you beat a team that’s much better than you, mainly because they (dawgs) spoon fed the game to you. Were ya’ll gone to the john when Stafford got air on the brain and through up a jump ball? My 5th grader could’ve returned that one for a TD. How ‘bout the Samuel fumble??…another gimme. Yes, you took full advantage of it…and you deserved to win, but remember, if UGA brings it’s A,B, or C game…the bees get squashed. They barely beat our “D” game. Don’t get me wrong, I like and respect Coach Paula (Jethro Bodene) Johnson. He’ll get you 7 wins a season (in a basketball conference) on average. Not bad by Tech standards, but hardly herculean. Dudes, I don’t blame you for being excited, but trust me, CMR will own Paula over a 4-5 year period. We did have an off year…very disappointing by our standards, but that happens when you lead the nation in injuries, which is what sometimes happens when you play in a REAL MAN’S football conference. Go ahead, enjoy this one. Better yet, reserve a room at the V and party all week, ‘cause Munson, Trippi and even Dooley will all be dead before you log another W vs CMR. I love you guys, but frankly, we have bigger fish to fry than merely beating a .500 team more than 7 out of 8 years.

Tech Crybaby….Are you serious? Your athletic program as a whole is terrible! Tech has won only ONE NC in any other sport not called football and that was in womens tennis in ‘06! Yes, you are ahead of UGA head to head in basketball and baseball comfortably, much like we are in the football series. But if you want to pull out the facts, let’s pull them all out. Check the NACDA standings, if you even know what that is. Check the current standings. Check them over the last 10 yrs. You will be embarrassed. Last year Tech didn’t even crack the top 50! Never has cracked the top 40!As far as football NC’s goes, it all depends on how you count them. Official NC’s, Tech 3 UGA 1. Counting them if one or more polls voted you # 1 at the time, UGA 6 Tech 6. UGA is the # 6 bowl team of alltime with 43 apps -Tech has 36. UGA has won 722 games - Tech 649. UGA has been to more different bowl games than any program in the country.UGA has the third most players currently in the NFL…only 4 behind Miami. UGA is the only school to produce 3 Super Bowl MVP’s.UGA leads all southern schools for total football academic award recipients with 47 - Tech has 27. UGA is fifth nationally in NCAA post - graduate scholars in all sports and first in the south with 52 - not sure how many Tech has but it’s less than 13. UGA leads the series vs. GT 59 -37.Dude, I could go on and on and on. How many NC’s has your baseball team won? How many times over the last few years have we eliminated your arses from regional play? The college baseball power in the state has shifted to UGA no doubt as evidenced by our several trips to the CWS over the last 5 yrs. alone.I won’t even get into mens and womens golf, tennis, swimming and diving, etc. UGA has 35 NC’s in all sports - Tech, 1 ( 4 counting football ). Facilities ? Fan base ? National recognition ? Merchandise sales ? Having to offer free hot dogs and coke to buy single game and season tickets? Okay enough….let’s not go there. You get the idea. There’s really no comparison. At Georgia, we play for championships. Enjoy your win!!!

Stingersplash, if he is here to stay, then the season we just witnessed will be by far the best season we will see for a long time. Miami was another one. Young team who didn’t know what to do against the option. That will change big time next year. We better hope that Miami’s qb’s don’t improve or we will lose very badly to them next year. FSU game is lost for sure on the road next year. If Va Tech finds an offense, we lose to them again. North Carolina will eat us for lunch and we won’t be as fortunate to catch Clemson right after firing their coach. Two more losses there. Miss St will be revamping their program and will most assuredly beat us next year. Once we lose our defensive line to the NFL, UGAY will hang 70 on us next year with or without Stafford and Soulja Boy. No way we will score that many against them. That leaves 5 wins max. Say what you want about Tenuta, but Matt Ryan is currently torching NFL defenses. And the 31 points we gave up to UGAY last year was better than we did this year against basically the same players. And if you think we will be in the BCS title game within 3 years, you are blind. The UGAY rednecks said the same thing after Richt took over. Hs it happened yet. Bring in Charlie Strong and we are in the BCS title game next year!!! Keep Johnson and we will never go to any bowl ever again.

Fire Paul Johnson. Buddy you should just leave. We all know you’re a Georgia fan or the stupidest fan I’ve seen in my life. You said everyone will figure out our option next year even though we have only used 25% of the playbook. We still havn’t put in the run&shoot or many plays. So learn some things before you make yourself sound stupid. Also to the redneck that said have fun playing in the lower alabama bowl, yeah that’s why we’ll be playing in the chick-fil-a bowl probably on new year’s eve against one of those overrated sec opponents. I think yall will be playing the second most overrated team in the nation (michigan state) behind the pups. The spartans got blownout by the bucks and lions which are two more overrated teams. So I have a feeling the chick-fil-a bowl will be more watched. To all the Georgia Fans that say tech didnt do anything yall just gave it to us. Well we didn’t commit stupid turnovers like the pups so we outplayed you in that category. We won because WE didn’t make mistakes and took ADVANTAGE over your mistakes. Also whoever said UGAY fumbled in the end zone? Don’t recall that one big man so take away 7 guarenteed points on that drive. Tech won the ballgame which is 1 out of the last one. I could care less about 7 years ago. Its the present now and we won the last game. We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta next year when we have Nesbitt, Dwyer, Cox, Jones, Thomas, Earls, and a whole 75% more playbook out and you have joe cox, caleb king, and green. Also i plan to be seeing you this time next year (fire paul johnson) and you can tell me how “we have 5 wins and aren’t going to a bowl” Yet i suspect 10 or more wins in the regular season. I also don’t understand how you say our defense is horrible when more most of the year we had one of the top 5 or 10 defenses in the nation. We still are top 20. Also our D Line will still have derrick morgan and our secondary will be HIGHLY IMPROVED woth burnett leading and reese and coop taylor even better. LATER

LATER

I think webhead is right, our biggest concern is that some other school will be attracted by our success and seek to hire CPJ away from us. If you look at Tech football history over the last 25 years, all our best coaches used GT as a stepping stone to another “better” job. Bill Curry bolted for ‘Bama. Bobby Ross for the San Diego Chargers. George O’Leary left for Notre Dame (although he never actually coached there). D Rad, along with Tech fans and alum, need to do whatever is necessary to help CPJ WANT TO STAY at Tech! That means we need to fill the stands and support this team not only with our opinions (on meaningless blogs like this), but also with our money and attendance!

Still on cloud 9. I work with several UGA fans, and they have not said a word. 1 guy in the office (UGA fan) lost a bet, and now has to wear a GT hat, and have the GT fight song as his ring tone for a month. He went to lunch today, and we called him 3 times while he was gone. Sweeeeet!!!

I was in North Carolina for Thanksgiving, and I forgot to set the Tivo before I left. I realized it on Thursday, and almost drove home to set it. I have been wanting to see the game again, but I have Dish Network. I know Comcast SportsSouth has been re-playing. I just found out that on channel 152 (CBS College Sports channel), they are going to re-play the game at 9:00 AM this morning. My Tivo is set! I am going to watch this game again…..and again……and again…..and again……and again……

Fire Paul Johnson Now,

Dude. Back away from the drugs. Slowly.

If Johnson can coach a team of 16 freshmen and sophomores at the 22 starting positions on offense and defense to an upset of the pre-season #1… why would you think it is the peak and everything will be downhill from here? I believe we were playing 2 true freshman in the secondary. Why are you so shocked that future NFL-players Stafford, Green and Massoquoi lit them up? Your excuse for Matt Ryan’s dominance of GT is that he is torching NFL defenses now. You don’t think Stafford will be doing the same thing? The defense stopped them often enough for us to win.

I live in Athens and have watched UGA all my life. UGA has some problems on defense with players who are just not that good. Tech knocked them on the ground repeatedly. It wasn’t so much bad tackling as good blocking with what I consider a very average Tech OLine. I think MR is a great guy and so is DE. But UGA has a tough year next year without Stafford, Moreno and Masaquoi. All they have coming back is Green and Curran. I am a big fan of Green, of course, and Curran was the only quality defender out there against Tech. So we will see how good a coach MR is next year. He hasn’t been challenged yet, but 2009 will be a great challenge. Tech is definitely on the upswing and should be a challenge for UGA or anybody else next year. As the Tech players say, only Tech can beat Tech (meaning turnovers). I believe that. No fumbles against UGA, victory.
