This blog has moved! Yes, already!
As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.
New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

Impressive performance by Jackets, Johnson
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It wasn’t quite a sellout, and it wasn’t nearly a whiteout, but it absolutely was a wipeout. Georgia Tech played like the best team in the ACC if not the whole wide world.
Thus will Paul Johnson’s first Tech team finish in no worse than a tie atop the Coastal Division. “We’ll at least be co-champion, tri-champion, quad-champion, something,” he said afterward. “Nobody’s going to have a better record than us.”
That’s true, and so is this: Tying for first in anything is a massive achievement for a program that changed coaches and offenses and thereby changed itself for the better. If Year 1 under pugnacious PJ is this sweet, what might Years 2 and 3 hold?
Although Johnson always seemed a terrific tactician and an inspired choice, nothing prepared his new constituency for this much this soon. In one autumn the Jackets have whipped Clemson and Florida State and Miami, schools that take the sport seriously. But something often overlooked, at least outside the Perimeter, is how serious the Institute is about football, and once again it has a coach who’s every bit as driven.
Miami has claimed five national championships in the past quarter-century, but against the Jackets it was made to look less robust than Gardner-Webb. The ‘Canes defense played as if it hadn’t scouted the option-based spread — a grievous oversight, wouldn’t you say? — and the Miami offense looked the way we’ve come to expect a Patrick Nix offense to look.
Nix was the Tech offensive coordinator who turned Reggie Ball into … well, Reggie Ball. Apparently the Auburn grad has taken that special touch to Coral Gables. The first touchdown Thursday was a function of a Ball-like lapse. Miami’s Robert Marve sought to throw a screen pass and failed to note the presence of Michael Johnson — a grievious oversight, given that Johnson stands 6-foot-7 — and flung the ball into the defender’s gut.
Tech fans groused about the offense throughout the tepid Chan Gailey era. They grouse no more. Johnson is among the best offensive minds anywhere, and for all his emphasis on the run he isn’t afraid of the newfangled forward pass. The Jackets threw on each of their first three snaps — they would pass only three times thereafter — and the first was delivered by Demaryius Thomas, who’s a receiver.
Tech being Tech, it got around to running. Jonathan Dwyer took the first snap of a second-quarter possession for a 58-yard touchdown, and Nesbitt touched off the next drive by gaining 54 yards. When Dwyer gained only 2 yards on the next play, PA announcer Chris Capo informed the assembled media, “That breaks a string of consecutive 50-yard rushes at two.”
With 2:07 left in the third quarter, Capo made another announcement: “Georgia Tech has rushed 38 times for 395 yards.” By then the score was 41-10, and the only defensive adjustments Miami had made was to turn Lucas Cox into Larry Csonka. A 32-yard touchdown burst had given Cox 75 yards on the night — he would finish with 78 — but made him only the fourth-leading gainer among Jackets. Amazing.
There could have been no finer ACC culmination for Johnson and his team than this. Said Dwyer: “You could see it in everyone’s eyes on the bus to the stadium. We knew this was a big game for us and a big game for the program. We had a chance to make history.”
For Tech to play for the ACC title, three other teams must lose. The Jackets can do nothing about that, but they’ll have some control over what happens in Athens on Nov. 29. And they could beat Georgia. They really could.

That was just plain awesome! I can’t even put into words how great we looked tonight. That was by far our most complete game of the season. I am really excited about Tech’s direction and the future of this program.
I had my reservations about our defense after Tenuta left, but not anymore. In fact I think Tenuta may have been overrated. Paul Johnson has made me a believer as well. I can’t wait to see what happens, in the years ahead, when we get some of the best rushers in the country and our offense gels even more.
Mr. Bradley, how will this whole tie-breaker thing break down? Right now we are at the top of the division and the worst we can do is tie, but I heard the guys on ESPN say that we still might not go to the championship game.

I will say all smack talking aside-Tech plays this way next week they will destroy the Dogs-I’m a huge Tech fan and live out of state and have watched all the games and also watched a good bit of the dawgs games as well-UGA had better bring the A game next week- Did you hear the ESPN announcers? “Paul Johnson is doing this in his first year can you imagine when he settles in GT here how scary this team is going to be” It is only a matter of time now-The U came in 19th in rushing allowed-well the “SPEED” did what tonight? Gave up 472 yards of rushing!!! WOW—that is impressive-Say what you want UGA fans about how week the ACC is this UM team held the mighty gators to 87 yards- So tighten up the chin straps and lets play some good ole GA football on the 29th-should be a great game!!!! CPJ now has his number 1 goal to get done now-Beat UGA—THWG!!!

I feel sorry for teams that get PJ after he has more than a week to prepare. Most Navy fans predicted a national championship at Tech in 3-4 years…might have to move that up a bit. Isn’t it nice to know your coach will NEVER be outcoached.

I’m amazed that Johnson can bring this kind of performance out of a bad offensive line. Imagine if he ever finds himself with a good one. I haven’t been so proud of a Tech squad since the championship year. One more win at UGA!

Was at the game tonight.
Amazing game and atmosphere its starting to feel so much more like a school that takes football seriously. I can tell that much and it’s only my first semester here.
UGA’s offensive line is going to have a lot of fun trying to keep Stafford upright.
Dwyer and Jones are explosive and can take it to the house every play. Nesbitt will be healthy (Thank you CPJ for having the foresight to pull him out of a blowout). Bay-Bay will have to hold onto the ball when he gets sure touchdown passes but CPJ will make sure that happens during practice.
It seems to me that the option is working best against fast defenses because it forces them to overpursue. Fast defenses do not have the discipline to play assignment football when they can run everyone down and thats why the option works.
The team will be fired up for the UGA game and this year is going to be the first year in a while we can beat them. We WILL beat those Leghumping Redneck Fleabags. To bad we don’t get to ruin their NC hopes.

Get real tech fans. One game doesn’t make you a champion. It’s simple that game will be tough, but if UGA turns it over then you will have a chance to win if not-it will be another year of telling the big brother how you almost could, and should have beaten us. Good luck next weak. Remeber we didn’t have to play, and we saw what happen to the Gators last year when they had a week to prepare

The tiebreaker works thusly: Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina have to lose. Either Virginia or Virginia Tech has to lose, given that they play one another. Tech would lose the tiebreaker to any of the above because they’ve lost to all of the above and will finish 2-3 in Coastal Division play.
The key game for Tech stands to come when North Carolina plays N.C. State on Saturday. If the Heels lose that one, then the Jackets have a real chance. (Carolina finishes against Duke.)

I am VERY impressed. The GT vs. UGA matchup looks a LOT more interesting now.
Just imagine how solid the GT Football program will be when we actually use all 85 scholarships (currently playing with 70 scholarship players ==> great strategy for the future), we sign and develop solid offensive linemen who know the offensive plan and we fill the roster with players who fit Coach Paul Johnson’s offense!!!!!!!!!
The future of the GT Football Program is VERY BRIGHT!!!!!

Stafford and Greene better be on because the only way Georgia beats GT is to score points. There is no way Willie Martinez can slow Tech’s offense. CMR now you get to see how bad WM really is.

My favorite part was how the announcers seemed to decide to do a game length ad for Georgia Tech. Seeing as there wasn’t that much to say about Maimi, they talked about Tech’s 3 alumni in the latest Space shuttle mission, beautiful downtown Atlanta, the Varsity, and one of them kept saying that he thought Tech’s fight song was one of the most underrated songs in the nation. The funniest part was listening to them all try to figure out the ‘football kinematics’ sign.
Most of all, they all seemed to be speculating about just how bright Tech’s future was going to be over the next several years. It’s definitely a change from the Gaily era!

And for being Champs of Coastal! Congrats. to Paul Johnson and his staff for doing so much in so little time. Triple option is a joke. It will never work against an atheletic defense. We are looking at 7-5(I guess it’s 8-4 now), a very mediocre season again…blah blah

I would feel much better about Tech’s long range chances against Georgia IF I knew more about Johnson’s religious beliefs. I’m new to the South and have really picked up on the fact that religion holds sway in many recruiting battles. In the Midwest-Bo, Woody, Tressel—and most other parts of the country religion is not injected into the recruiting process. However, in the South—well, maybe just Georgia and the Florida panhandle——if you can convince the grandmother you are closer to God than your rival you will win the battle. I don’t see anyone outside of Billy Graham and Pat Robertson out revivaling Mark Richt. And I’m not questioning the sincerity of his beliefs, my point is he uses them in recruiting. That is TOTALLY fair. Do you know anyone else who does it?? Carroll, Stoops, Meyer, Leach, Miles, Tuberville, Brown, Paterno, Saban, Petrino or anyone from the past???The only one I can think of easily is Bowden. The fired one and the one who is there for the duration.

Tech fans,
Congrats. It looks like you now have a coach that can take you to the - pardon the cliche - next level. I look forward to some HUGE GT-UGA games in the next few years, games with -sorry another cliche coming- national implications. CPJ’s first year reminds me a lot of CMR’s - some landmark wins mixed with some head-scratching defeats. If you guys break up our winning streak against you and beat us next Saturday then it will REALLY mirror MR’s first year, when we broke a long losing streak against you guys. Hell, at this pace, in 8 years you guys will be 9-2, ranked in the top 15, undefeated on the road - and you will be calling for your coaches heads.

Heath, yes, if Tech loses every last game left on the schedule it was an impressive season. This was the rebuilding year, when we were expected to win 3 or 4 games, and we’ve already done better than all but one of Gaily’s seasons. In a couple of years an 8 win year might be a letdown, but not this year.

Great win, but there was one STUPID mistake on special teams w/ the pooch kickofff. That almost cost us the momentum of the gmae. CPJ is a great great coach but there comes a time to propertly manage the game. That could hae been a 7 point swing and I hope the special teams coach doesn’t try that crap again. Great win but we still need to shore up our special teams putting game and the trickery. Don’t know about you but that was almost the dumb play of the week of ESPN. They weren’t moving the ball all night long, we score to go up 27-3 and try that stup on side pooch kick off and it could have drastically caused a different outcome. Please, please, please, play smart football. This isn’t intramurals w/ a trophy on the line. This is an ACC title on the line.
Overall though, that 10 days rest paid dividends and lets hope another 10 days can help CPJ come up w/ another creative game plan to keep it close, if not win, in Athens. Don’t think that Gawga has two weeks to prepare for this offense so CPJ has to come up w/ a creative scheme.
Good news is our secondary looked good tonight and J Word D will be back to full strength along w/ Nessbigg znd Dwyer. THIS IS THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR, COMING UP. MAKE NO MISTAKE. Even if we do lose, this has been a great first season under the new regime and this could be the last loss to the Dawgs in a long while. They’re D sucks but Stafford ad AJ Green will be throwing the slants all night long and our safeties and d=backs have to play the games of their lives. Good night fellow Tech fans. It was a great night but lets put this behind us and focus on those flea bags in Athens. The ACC Coastal is out of our hands now!!!

ElGato?? El Gato??? Donde esta usted? I suspect you’re heading down 75 around Valdosta, with your cat tail between your legs. In fact, your 88 Ford Econoline is probably broken down on the shoulder with smoke pouring out from under the hood. You posted on here 50 times this week talking smack. Yet, we stomped you in every phase of the game and could have rushed for 600 yards and could have scored 60 points if we hadn’t pulled the studs. Thank God we won’t hear from you again. We showed a national TV audience last night that these Jackets are pretty damn good. As for the canines, there ain’t no sense in debating for the next ten days with their idiot fans. I’m staying off of here. We just need to go play the game and if we play like we did last night, we’ll win, plain and simple. When all is said and done, however, I figure Bees and Dogs will both be 9-3 after next Saturday with GT winding up 15th, and Dogs around 22nd. You dog fans might want to print this prediction and hang it on the front door of your double wide.

I actually like this more - you guys actually get to feel a little better about your mediocre program about a HORRENDOUS, rebuilding Miami team before it all comes crashing BACK down next weekend.

Johnson is one of the freaks of coaching. I wondered why someone wasn’t down in Statesboro or finding Tracy Ham for an interview when CPJ was hired. The Ham bone offense was one of the most fanatically engineered and independently thought out offenses in any era of football, yet few even know what it was in this generation. It is all copy cat coaching now days with clinics and books. Many thought the success was because of Ham’s great talent to run it not the genius of the coach. Schools want to hire politicians like Bill Curry over substance when many times the real thing is begging to be asked. The Gailey thing is got to be universal, not unlike the Detroit auto executives, that put out a subpar product and get paid millions for sub par results and then act like they are doing you a favor taking your money. Johnson brings back a little “can do spirit” America needs right now. Gailey is not unlike the poor leadership of a great nation that we have seen the last few years, and Johnson represents substance over hot air. Maybe he will help redefine it so we aren’t so blind to it in the future.

Since Coach Dodd retired, GT has been, except for 1990 and the early Bill Curry years, only a fair team. There has been one coach after another who produced only tepid results. Dan Radokovich told Tech faithful shortly after he was hired that mediocrity was not acceptable but I never thought Tech could ever play TOP 10 football again given the academic demands of the institute. I`m glad I renewed my season tickets as football tickets will again become difficult to obtain.

I really liked Steve’s comment … “Put a ‘Bama or Florida in the ACC and the rest of the conference would be playing for second place for eternity.” I suppose Steve is a Georgia fan, because he certainly seems to understand the Dawg’s place in the SEC.
Seriously, the ACC would probably be considered a stronger conference if we had one or two dominating teams that could get into the top ten and stay there. Hopefully GA Tech will be such a team next year. In the meantime, you could make a strong case that the ACC is the strongest, or at least the most balanced, conference from top to bottom. There is no other conference that still has EVERY TEAM potentially bowl-eligible. As a matter of fact, 2/3 of our teams have already qualified for bowl games, and we have a very realistic shot at having ten teams going bowling this year.
At this point, I don’t have a clue whether we’ll be UGA next week … that’s why they play the game. Are we capable of winning … absolutely! Are we capable of losing badly … you’d better believe it! There’s no point in talking smack. Let’s meet between the hedges and play it out.
Looking ahead, Tech fans should feel very good about the future of the football program. If CPJ can muster even eight wins (and we might still get as many as eleven) in his first season using atheletes that were recruited for a very different offense, we should be excited about what we’ll be doing 2-3 years from now, after he’s recruited the type of athletes he needs for his offensive and defensive schemes.
Good job against the ‘Canes. Let’s rest up for a couple of days, get healthy, and then BEAT GEORGIA!

I was one of the posters who said CPJ was great hire. I was a huge Ga Southern fan when Erk started football again at GSU. It was CPJ who installed this offense there and it immediately became unstoppable. They destroyed highly favored teams in the 1AA playoffs. I also followed CPJ’s turnaround of Hawaii and Navy. With good athletes this offenese can be great, with great athletes this offense will be unstoppable. It was nice to hear informed announcers recognize that this isn’t about three yards and pile of dust run but relies on the big play when defenders discipline breaks down. You think it’s working now, wait when the QB grasps the reads as second nature…… you aint seen nothing yet.

Hey GatorsEatBoogers … you wrote that UVA and Wake Forest would be Vandy’s whipping boys. Perhaps you should look at the ACTUAL RESULTS from this season. Duke, the perennial cellar-dweller in the ACC, already played AND BEAT Vandy this season … and that’s while Vandy was the 3rd place team in the SEC East. I’m not saying the ACC is the most dominating conference in the country, but before you make insults, you should at least check your facts. It will make you look like less of an idiot.

I think it’s a DISGRACE and some rules need to be changed when a 3 loss ACC team gets a BCS berth. It really trivializes the game and a team shouldn’t be getting that kind of money. Techmites, you all are gonna see an ACTUAL offense and the result will be just like it has for the past 7 years. I hope you LOSERS can bring up your program so when we beat you , it means something. How was Dragoncon this year???

Excellent finish to game, but I feel that PJohnson gets a B for his coaching rather than A. The stupid onside kick after getting the 10 point lead detracts (announcing crew all felt the same way). I think that PJohnson needs to get the killer instinct (necessary if he ever gets a top 10 team). Late in the game, he shut down the defense and he failed to score the last touchdown at the goal, by running 3 QB sneaks. In this college world, you’ve got to put feelings aside and score every chance you get. Miami would have, had they been in the same situation.

Kind of weird, isn’t it? Georgia was picked No. 1 in the country — not just in the polls, but by me as well — and can’t win its division. Tech can’t finish any worse than tied for first in its division.
Mark,
What a dumb statement. It seems to me you have sour grapes that UGA is not going to win the NC, and that makes you look bad. Now, go ahead and pick Tech to beat UGA, and make your prognosticating reputation complete.

One great game after a stinker and all of the sudden “we’re a national championship contender in three years.”
Tech might finish in a four way tie for their DIVISION. Who are they superior to? The other two teams not in the tie scenario? One of those two would be a team they lost to. The other? Duke.
They played a complete game right after a complete clunker. The euphoria will last until the next stinker.

Dawgs fans stop touting the SEC as being great. There are 2 great teams in your conference and they destroyed UGA. The rest of the conference is hardly better than the ACC. Granted LSU, UGA and USC this year should beat every team in the ACC, but they are inconsistent. LSU and UGA especially have underperformed. They would probably fair no better than any of the teams competing for the ACC title. Example, did you see the UGA team that played Auburn and Kentucky. If you are going to say Kentucky and Auburn would burn through the ACC you should take off your homer glasses. The rest of the SEC would be hard pressed to compete in the ACC. (nor the Big 10 nor Big East)
UGA v GT will be a great game. Go Jackets

Just for the record, not that it should matter, I posted in the wee hours because I was at my job, something that I at least have.
You Bumbles are really pathetic. You rant about how desperate we UGA folk are (and yes, I proudly hold multiple degrees from UGA), then practically beg the Bumbles not to let the Dogs tie the streak record. However the caveat is that there is no chance whatsoever you guys will sneak up on us now, we will be ready, and it will be a great game, clean old fashioned hate style. Paul Johnson is awesome, that is why I was really hoping he would go to Nebraska during the off-season. This really shows how clueless the talking heads are, all that pre-season punditry about how the option offense may not work in modern college football, seriously the guy won at Navy, remember just because they are on TV does not make them smart.

Bradley, you’ve got to be the worst sports writer in America. You drink the GA cool aid the whole season, and now you’re on Tech’s little band wagon because they beat Miami last night. You’re the worst fair weather sports write I have even seen. I remember after GA killed Arizona State, you wrote this article praising UGA. After we beat LSU, you wrote an article titled something like, “UGA sends Gators a warning”. Now you’re on the Tech band wagon. Seriously just stay on the Tech band wagon….we don’t want you liking GA anymore. There is no way in hell that Tech will beat GA on the 29th. Beating an overrated ACC team on your home field is a lot different than beating a top 15 SEC school on their’s.

A very impressive win for the bees last night in front of a national audience. For a rebuilding year, even the most die-hard Dog fan has to tip his hat to PJ. Tech’s arrival between the hedges will definitely bring a lot more attention this year. But GT has had such a bi-polar year, I’m anxious to see which team shows up…the one that crushed Miami or the one that struggled against UNC and (gasp!) Gardner-Webb. Best wishes to Tech and especially hope Nesbitt & Dwyer stay healthy!

Why all the vitriol, Techies? I was rooting for you guys last night — in fact, most of the UGA fans I know were. GIven all that GT does for Atlanta and, by extension, for Atlanta’s reputation as a technology town, it’s hard not to root for them. So for years, I’ve favored the Jackets in each game throughout the season, except for one, of course. And that triple spread-option is effective and fun to watch — you guys were very smart in hiring Paul Johnson.
This reminds of the Red Sox-Yankees “rivalry” for years and years, where the Sox backers were out of their minds with hatred for the Yanks, while Yankees fans were like, “Oh, the Red Sox? It’d be good to beat them, I guess.”
I suppose that all changes if GT beats UGA more than once a decade or so — and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit worried about that in the years to come. But until that happens, I’m far more concerned with Florida and ‘Bama. It should be a close one between the hedges this year, and that’s always more fun than a blowout. If we remain true to form and commit loads of penalties while sputtering in the red zone, y’all could even steal this one. Good luck!

Chan Gailey is the worst coach in the history of college football. Paul Johnson is one of the best and may be the very best. That is the difference. And ugag isn’t even the #1 in the state of Georgia…much less the nation. And the best running back in Georgia is Jonathan Dwyer….not the overhyped NOSHOW. I had told all my ugag friends that they were not going to like Tech’s new coach as well as they liked Gomer Gailey. I think they are starting to recognize this fact. SugarHilldawg - I agree, with 3 losses the Dawgs should not be given a bowl game, they played in an inferior conference and they got beat down by the only 2 good teams in it. Mark-Actually I would believe Tech has some pressure on them to win as well…and even just as much as UGA.
A chance to lose 8 in a row to your most hated rival has alot of pressure I would imagine.
I’m sure Tech goals are alot like UGA’s.
Win your division…which neither team has done, although Tech has a SUIPER SLIM chance.
Win your conference Title….which neither team has done…again Tech with an outside SUPER SLIM shot.
BEAT TECH/BEAT UGA.
If the top 2 are not achieved which for UGA will not happen, and most likely Tech either….
then that is alot of pressure on both teams to at least achieve one of your goals.
Congrats to the TEch fans on that great win last night. Tech has a very fine coach and very fine football team.
But I disagree with the majority of pressure being on UGA. NONE of those players have whiffed a win against UGA. I imagine they don’t want to leave Tech without one.
I think that is pressure

To D E,
Tech’s overall record is irrelevant for tie-breaking. The only way GT goes to the ACC CG is if it is the only 5-3 team in the division, or if it is in a 2-way tie with Miami. Any other 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way tie and GT is eliminated.

Tech fans are pathetic. Not only is the “Budweiser Dance” idiotic, but even when their team is exceeding all expectations and is in the running for a conference title in November, they can’t even sell out their own mid-sized stadium for a nationally televised game against a ranked opponent. Phew.

First, great, great game Jackets. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are for real. Great coaching too, esp. with all the injuries. And you fought through bad calls all night that in the past would’ve affected the outcome (bad replay on UM catch, bad pass interference call, etc.) Awesome job, ramblin wreck! Second, kudos to Mark Bradley for owning up to his bad call on UGA rank, and also for giving us some credit, unlike some of his associates.

EIGHT WINS, for an 8-3 record, so far, is exciting! But more than that, I’m happy about CUTTING OUR LOSSES! Lest we forget, while Gailey did not have a losing season at Tech in his six years, the losses numbered 6,6,5,5,5,and 6. The only way we can pile up 5 losses now, is to lose to Georgia, AND to whomever we play in the bowl game. That may happen, but we have a chance to prevent it.

Is “succesful program” spelled with just one CPJ?
I don’t know how much the players believed they were playing for the division title. In reality they were playing for pride. They earned the right to be proud last night. It has already been a great season. I’m FINALLY optimistic about an upcoming year. In fact I’m delerious.

If Tech played Georgia’s SEC schedule:
Alabama— L (blowout) South Carolina— L Tennessee— W (maybe) Vandy— L (sorry…Tech is no Duke) LSU— L (big time) Kentucky— L Florida— L (ugly) Auburn—W (we’ll give you that one)
2-6. Even if you squeak out a win over Kentucky, you’re still 3-5. Congrats.

D. Ellis. Of course you would rather say you won 3 out of 4, but the last few classes at Tech have lost all 4, so if this class did as well, it wouldn’t be earthshattering. Let’s be honest. UGA has more talent, more 5-star recuits and is SUPPOSED to win this game AT HOME. UGA was ranked #1 at one time this year. Tech has a 1st year coach in a much different system and was supposed to be hovering around .500 at best. Tech has nothing to lose. If UGA wins, we still surpassed all expectations. If UGA loses, it will be an embarrassment.

I’ve been going to watch the Jackets since the early 70’s and I can’t remember a better total team effort……but Ladies and Gentelmen…..don’t for a second think the Dawgs are shaking in their cleats …no they are tighting the old chin straps and preparing…if Tech can bring what they had last night with them to Athens they have a real good chance to win this one..but they have to play like last night and not like their previous game.

Brock, you are such a hopeless gob of protoplasm. Did you compose your posts yourself, or did your mommy have to spell the big words for you?
Facts are that I was a Redcoat trumpet player in the late 70s, I don’t hide behind anybody and I’ve forgotten more about the greatest rivalry in college football than you’ll ever know. The most important fact that you Bumbles can’t stand is that for most of the past 20 years, and certainly for the past seven, Georgia has OWNED the Bees. Deal with it. And while UGA’s NC was 28 years ago, at least it was won outright, not like the Insects’ shared “title” in ‘90.
And again, not that it’s any of your business, but I work with the largest food ministry in the US, and have, for the past four days (okay, nights) been helping supervise the loading of 400 semi truck loads of food being sent to host sites in 39 states.
You hurl epithets from the start, calling me everything but a child of God. I won’t stoop to your level of name-calling. While I’m a loser and retard in your glazed eyes, I’ve nevertheless helped feed more than 600,000 families across the US this week. What have you done to bring any significance to your continuing waste of oxygen?

Terrific coaching job! Magnificent effort by the players.
I was delighted CPJ opened with a passing attack to loosen them up. It worked beautifully. As I said earlier, I thought he should have done that against UNC.
The game against the Dawgs is the biggest game for Tech in the past several years. They have had 2 weeks to prepare and were Preseason #1.. Although they will have seen Tech open this game with passing, I still think that would be good idea against UGA as well, at least 50-50 to start the game to keep them off balance and prevent their putting 8 or 9 in the box. Beating them in Athens would be huge for CPJ and the Tech Nation. I am confident he can do it. At the start of of the season, I thought this was an impossibility.
The red zone offense needs work. The first series should have resulted in a TD. Thomas could have scored with a better move at the end as the ESPN announcer said. On 1st and goal, I thought 3 plays into the middle was too conservative since the option wide and passing had been working so well. It didn’t matter in this game, but against the dawgs I hope CPJ will design more creative plays in the red zone since it could be the difference in a close game.
As I said earlier, a great team effort and superior coaching can overcome the adversity of the bad calls I always expect and which occurred again in this game: [a] The chop block which already has infuriated CPJ. My view is that the ACC is vindictive and punished CPJ for speaking out. I wouldn’t let that stop him from criticising the CC officials for a second. [b] The holding call on GT #81 which wasn’t a hold. [c] THE WORST CALL OF ALL - THE NON-CATCH OUT OF BOUNDS WHEN CLEARLY THE BALL HIT THE GROUND, SCORE TECH 10- MIAMI 0. IT WAS A POTENTIAL GAME CHANGER. Fortunately, it wasn’t, although it did lead to a FG, GT 10 Miami 3. The ESPN announcers all agreed that it was not a catch. The review officials blew it. [d] The uncatchable pass that GT was called for PI & led to a TD for Miami, although the Jackets were way ahead, so it didn’t matter. [The ref probably wanted to shave the points to try and cover his gambling wager!]
The onside kick was a big gamble. Recover it and CPJ is brilliant. Don’t and he’s are not. Fortunately, it didn’t hurt. Bobby Dodd wouldn’t have done that since he stressed field position. I remember Navy recovered two against Tech by kicking it straight up the middle with the lead guys blocking Tech away from the ball while the follow-up guys recovered it. I don’t remember if CPJ was the coach then, but I thought that was brilliant and that Tech should try it. They never did.
Were it not for the bad calls against VT and UVA, the Jackets could be 10-1 or even undefeated since 2 bad calls also hurt Tech against UNC when we were still in the game at 7-0 with 1st down at the UNC 29.
CPJ and Dan and Paul Hewitt should seriously consider leaving the ACC for another good conference to get decent officiating. Obviously, this would be a huge decision and could hurt in recruiting and other ways. In retrospect, Bobby Dodd’s decision to leave the SEC hurt Tech, although he had good reasons for doing so. Tech should at least explore the “OPTION!” and analyze the pros and cons of a better conference. Best choices: [a] SEC, [b] Big East which has some very good teams.
Anyway, if Tech plays like this Nov. 29, the Yellow Jackets will beat Georgia.
I am concerned about Dwyer’s injury. It didn’t look serious, amd I hope he is 100% against the Dawgs. On the other hand, I thought Miami would beat us because of our injuries, and everyone stepped up big time!
Final Point: The ACC leads all conferences in Graduation rates [SEC is last], but Tech is low. All the coaches should make a greater effort to keep players in school. Tech has lost more top quality players in basketball and football to early drafts by the pros than any school I can think of. This has really hurt Tech and the players as well. I hope to see a dramatic improvement.

To Steve: Boasting about the Dawgs recent success against the Jackets only shows your complete lack of class. True winners and champions, which doesn’t include you, are respectful, gracious, and show humility. Since you want to compare, here are some facts for you: The ACC leads the SEC in overall rankings, top to bottom. The NFL drafted more players from the ACC over the past 3 years than any other conference, including the top 3, Matt Ryan, Calvin Johnson, and Mario West. The ACC leads the nation in graduation rates. The SEC is last. Finally, Tech has won more National Championships than the dawgs including the only consensus NC in 1917. Finally, Tech has a more illustrious gallery of coaches than Georgia: John Heisman, Wm. Alexander, Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross, and probably Paul Johnson.
Losers wrote: How would you like to say you lost 7 in a row to your rival? How would YOU like to say that Tech still holds the record streak of 8 in a row vs. the dawgs under Bobby Dodd..

This was a great win for the program Thursday night. I was however not pleased at several things. #1 when Miami realized they did not have 11 men on field, and sen d in the 11th. player, Tech got a little out of kilt giving up a cheap touchdown. #2 when Jabo fumbled they gave up another cheap td.
If we bring out A game Saturday against the Dogs, the results could be very good. The key to beating GA is good hard nose tackling, no arm stuff, or Moreno will kill us. The second being, we need to get to Stafford, pressure him like crazy, making him go sideline to sideline, otherwise with the receivers they have, he will pick us apart.
Go Jackets.

GREAT DAY FOR THE JACKETS!!
Now we just need VTech to lose one of its 2 last games. Can Duke do it? They kick off in about an hour. It’s possible. Too bad both the Hokies games are at home.
I’m pulling for the Terps to win the Atlantic Division since I still love Ralph Friedgen, an offensive genius responsible for much of Tech’s National Championships and Tech’s success during the Joe Hamilton and Godsey eras. I wrote him after he left Tech before the Peach Bowl game against LSU. I blamed him for the loss and said “I hope your conscience hurts you!” He wrote me back, and said “I love Georgia Tech. I offered to stay and help prepare for the bowl game, but O’Leary told me to leave.” I lost a lot of respect for O’Leary’s intelligence and as a person after that even before the fisaco at Notre Dame. Tech didn’t do nearly as well after Ralph left. I’m pulling for him to beat the Free Shoes University Criminoles tonight. Go Terps!

Alright, from what I understand, the tiebreaker rules mean that IF we beat Georgia, then we DON’T need VT to lose to win the coastal. So we’re back in the drivers seat, even though we’re out of ACC opponents (wierd, I know). If we lose to UGA then we need VT to win to win the Coastal.

I’ve been watching the Miami game again on DVD, and this offense reminds me so much of Bobby Dodd’s legendary belly play. I keep having to replay because I’m looking at the wrong back who doesn’t have the ball just as the Miami defenders were doing. On one play, there is a pile of Cane defenders on top of Dwyer while Nesbitt keeps it and breaks open for his long gain. The great blocking and the speed and energy of the Jackets also reminds of Dodd’s great teams. Watching Slo-Mo of Dwyers’ 6 yd run for a TD, I didn’t realize the critical part Roddy Jones played the first 2 times I watched it. He swung behind Dwyer from his A-back position, cut sharply into the line to the right of Dwyer, GOT TO LINE BEFORE DWYER DID, blocked the defender, Dwyer bounced off Jones, headed for the goal, was hit by another defender, then Jones followed and pushed Dwyer over the goal for the TD! It was beautiful to watch. And Jones is only a freshman!
I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a very young team with a new coach since Bobby Dodd, Leon Hardeman, Billy Teas, Darrel Crawford, and a gaggle of other All-Americans erupted on the national scene with an undefeated season in 1951. This team could easily have been undefeated except for a few turnovers and some horribly bad calls by the notorious ACC refs.
