Georgia sends Gators a warning

Baton Rouge, La. — Alert the Urban Crier. The Georgia Bulldogs’ final act of a giddy day in Death Valley was — you guessed it — to dance in the end zone. Only this time they waited until the final horn had sounded and the refs had departed to do it.

“Just spontaneous,” said Knowshon Moreno, the lead dancer among the chorus line of Dogs. “Just having fun.”

What we witnessed here was a team that spent seven games playing under pressure remembering how sweet it feels to be the aggressor. Georgia hung half a hundred (plus two) on the reigning national champ at the absolute proper moment — seven days before the World’s Largest Outdoor Grudge Match.

“We’ve been hearing about [the celebration penalty] since that [Florida] game was over,” said Rennie Curran, the linebacker. “We know [the Gators] are going to use that play to get fired up.”

And you know what? Let ‘em.

Because when Georgia plays the way it did here, Georgia is — pause for effect — the class of the SEC. Yes, Florida beat LSU by 30 points, but that was in the Swamp. Nobody comes here and does what the Bulldogs just did. And what the Bulldogs just did was what we’d been waiting for them to do for two months.

They attacked from the first snap. Heck, they scored on the first snap, and LSU did the snapping. Darryl Gamble, the linebacker starting only because Dannell Ellerbe is hurt, read Jarrett Lee’s eyes and took a short pass the other way. (Gamble would do the same thing three hours later, thereby rendering him Lee’s most productive receiver.) In between Georgia did everything we’ve waited, not entirely patiently, to see.

A.J. Green separated from Jai Eugene for a 49-yard touchdown one play after dropping a pass. Moreno outran Darry Beckwith, LSU’s best defender, at the end of a 68-yard burst. The maligned O-line yielded one measly sack, and Matthew Stafford threw the ball and managed the game like a No. 1 draftee-to-be.

“With our age and the injuries we’ve had, we knew it would take time,” Stafford said. “We weren’t disappointed that we weren’t winning by that many points — but maybe some other people were.”

A week ago this correspondent conceded that he might’ve overrated Georgia, but this 52-38 thumping changed a changing mind. (OK, I’m fickle. Sue me.)

If you can do this to LSU in frothing Tiger Stadium, you need have no fear of Florida or anything reptilian.

Said Curran: “The way we’re coming together as a team, we feel we definitely can hang with any team in the nation.”

We knew coming in that the LSU game wouldn’t write the story of Georgia’s season: Either way, it would only drop a hint as to what will happen in Jax. We now have reason to believe the Bulldogs will meet Florida’s ire with fire and — might as well say it — will win.

And if they do, this much is certain: The Bulldogs will dance again at the Gators’ expense. Said cornerback Asher Allen: “It would be lovely to be able to do that.”

Asked Saturday about last season’s scripted penalty, Mark Richt said: “We’ve got a release — a text — of what I said in Birmingham [in July] that we’re going to give anybody who asks explaining what happened.”

“Call me,” said Claude Felton, Georgia’s helpful publicist.

By Sunday, Richt said, he’ll “have coached [the players] up on what to say” about the celebration, but as of Saturday his message of muteness hadn’t been imparted. So here was Curran, when asked if the Bulldogs had something new planned for Florida.

“Not that I know of,” he said. And then, smiling: “Maybe the seniors have something up their sleeve.”

Urban Meyer, you have been warned.

Im not worried……Georgia have been waiting for this game just as much as Florida has. Ricth will have the boys ready to go. It will be our an offensive shootout, and I would take Georgia any day of the week…..especially this coming Saturday;)

Georgia now leads every offensive stat in the SEC.

Moreno leads in rushing and scoring

Stafford leads in passing

Green leads in receiving

Georgia leads in total offensive….and btw LSU has a better defensive than Florida.

Great column, Mark. Very cleverly written! You really captured what was special about the game and this team.

Let’s not grumble about giving up so many points to a less than stellar Tiger offense when the UGA offense cut through their defense like a sharp knife through hot s#*t!

Thank goodness Southerland is back! Man we missed him!

Just because Dawg fans say it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Florida will whip Georgia for 4 quarters like Bama did for 2 quarters. I think LSU talked smack about putting down Tebow also and we saw what happened to them.

Oh yeah, how about Duke beating that previously powerhouse SEC Vanderbilt team. Face it, the SEC is mid level talent outside of Florida and Bama.

Mark,

Did we watch the same game? Georgia’s Defense couldn’t stop LSU all night - it was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen. Willie’s Defense gave up 497 yards of Total Offense!! 55 more yards than Georgia netted on Offense.

I have been sick I’ve hearing all these Florida Gayturds talking smakc about the upcoming whippin’. I think it might be a shoot out. But I wouldn’t write-off wither team - I also wouldn’t bet on the game.

Hey “Reality”, Which points shall I rebuke? A claim that a team will beat us next week. What sort of analysis would one use to refute a prediction? Only the game next week can confirm or deny that assertion. Additionally, I have no argument that Vandy lost to Duke. They did but you’re missing the point. I could care less how well other SEC schools do against ACC schools. I only care how UGA performs and so far it’s not so bad. Going forward, you can debate about debate skills but there is no debate about the following.. your trolling on a UGA blog because your team lost and you’re hoping you can get someone’s goat but you can’t. Deal with it.

I luv the Dawgs just as much as V. Dooley himself, but I have a bad feeling about next Saturday in Jax against the Gators. Also, I think the fans and players are little too confident about a win next week. Remember, Florida was step for step with us last year and that was with every player on our team being healthy for the most part. I think this is the one game where we feel the lose of our key Defensive and Offensive line.

Gamble’s 2 picks for six were awesome. Remove those from the defensive performace and the defense was horrible, against a pretty bad LSU offense.

43% of AJC respondents (on How would you rate the Dogs’ performance?) have said that Georgia’s defense played Good to Excellent. 43% of respondents are STUPID.

Does anybody have a screen-capture of the LSU fan that flipped us the bird there in the second half. Looked as if a camera from across the field came on and the ‘coona**’ caught sight of the light and let one fly, and then as if to pretend that he really wasn’t signaling that he thought that LSU was still #1, he poked at his cap-bill with that still extended middle finger.

Look for it if you TIVOed the game, it was beautiful.

I love the DAWGS - played great against LSU…but simply put - LSU had 497 yards against our D…this stat has got to improve drastically if we are to win. Again, I love the Dawgs, but Tebow will be full strength (vs last year) and we’d better figure out how to stop him and their other RBs. Great win today- I was pleased to be watching from the bleachers at ground level and all I can say is, “It’s great… to be… a Georgia Bulldog!” Smack talk is cheap so let’s check the facts- UGA is better at QB, better at RB, better at FB, better at DL, bettter at LB, better at CB, and better at S. AJ is as good as Percy and our other receivers are better than theirs. You can also keep Urban, we’ll stick with CMR. Does this mean Georgia wins? Not necessarily but we more than covered today. The dawgs will beat the gators and here’s why:

-Dawgs have hair, gators have scales.

-Dawgs are hot blooded creatures made by God and man’s best friend, gators are cold blooded killers that sneak up on its victims and God make yet recall them from his inventory.

-Dawgs bark before they bite, gators don’t bark and give their prey a fair chance to escape. That’s just bad sportsmanship.

-Dawgs smile at people and wag their tail, gators float in the water and basically look plain stupid.

-Dawgs coronated UGA as its poster dawg, gators are mindless, selfish crocidile wannabes.

-Dawgs pee on carpet thinking they did the right thing, gators don’t pee and that’s why they’re green.

-Dawgs look good in red and black, gators never wear clothes just proving my point that they are mindless, cold blooded killers that could use a personal shopper (if they didn’t eat them first).

Mark, I hope you didn’t jinx the Dawgs by picking them to whip the Gators next week. I must admit I am concerned about the defense. The defense does need to do a better job against both the run and the pass and the Gators can do both. The Dawgs will really hve to hunker down. If my memory is correct the Dawgs usually play one of their slopper games against the Gators. I think the offense and the defense will need to bring their A games next week to the party. Lets not bury the gator until it’s dead.

Mark, the Bulldogs offense looked good today. But the Gators offense put up over 50 (could have been 70) on LSU when they were #4 in the country, and then the Gators put up over 60 (could have been 100) on Kentucky today. The Gators offense is in high gear…and the Gator defense is a lot better than what I saw Georgia put out there on the field today. And Georgia has no match for the Gators special teams. Plus, I don’t think you have speed matches for Harvin, Rainey, Demps, and their gang of speedsters. Good luck on Saturday. You are really going to need it…cause luck is the only way you win in Jax. Wallow in statistics? Mark is saying that UF should be so scared of UGA. Why? Again, almost 500 yards from a worthless LSU offense. Scott ran all over you guys, and he had 35 yards against UF, 18 coming on a carry with under five minutes to go in the game with it already decided.

Again, why should I, or anyone else, be scared of Georgia?

Lets face it, the Dawg’s defense can be scary at times. They do give up a lot of yards and points but I remember the Erk Russell philosophy on defense, bend but don’t break. That’s the way the old Georgia defenses played, bend but don’t break and make the big play when you had to. I am comcerned about our defense but I think they can get the job done if they hunker down and play like junkyard dawgs. in years past the Dawgs usually played one of their slopper games against the Gators. Lets hope that the offense and the defense brings their A games next Saturday. Oh, and Mark, I hope you didn’t jinx the Dawgs by picking them to whip the Gators.

I am on record as having picked UGA to win today 31-17. OK, I was a little low. Now, for the sake of objectivity, none of this matters if the winner of UGA-UF does not win out and beat Bama in Atlanta. Yep, Bama remains the premier SEC team until proven otherwise. That said, Dawgs beat Gators 42-24 and Urban Meyer turns into a steamed lobster.

Gator Fan, Why should you be scared of Georgia? No one cares if you’re scared of Georgia. Don’t be scared of Georgia. You don’t have to play Georgia. UF does have to play Georgia. The same UF that lost to Ole Miss. The same Ole Miss that lost to Wake Forest. The same Wake Forest that lost to…

you clowns act like you have forgotten what a thumpin’ me an’ the boys put on you a coupla weeks ago. Wait ‘til you see what WE do to the corndogs in a few weeks. less miles is gonna feel the heat as the coonasses wonder why in the hell they have him on the sidelines. I am pretty sure the gators are gonna slap you guys down next week on they’re way to a showdown with us in Atlanta (where they will lose they’re manhood, just like y’all did), but if you manage to beat them; we will be glad to embarrass your team on national T.V. again… hunker down, dawgs and kiss your a* finished…

One more comment, then out. After a great win, some of you still want to complain about WM. “Except for the two interceptions for scores, our D sucked….” Fact- Gamble credited WM with prepping him for the pass LSU tried on their first play. Result: defensive TD. I’d call that stopping them. Charles Scott is a bull and LSU has outstanding skill players. They have a good shot at beating Bama. What’s our won-loss record under WM? I suppose if we won all of our games, you’d still want to see him fired because we weren’t beating other teams badly enough. Now, excuse me while I go off and be happy.

Reality, it’s more like, anything but reality. Please get a life and a girlfriend and stop spending all your life hoping and dreaming that tech can beat UGA. Are you really going to judge the SEC by a Duke/Vandy game? You are f’n retarted. Get lost b***!

And the Gator football team has been a tradition all the way back to 1991. 17 years is along football tradition. It only took us like 50+ years to win an SEC chapionship. That is what you call getting it done.

Sincerely,

georgia will win this game, and this is why…florida cannot run the ball, they can pass it all over the place but they cannot run it, they are one dimensional. LSU has a massive o-line and they pretty much had there way with our defensive front, but there QB play is wretched, everytime they got it going on offence Lee managed to throw an interception. with that being said the best way to play defence against florida is to keep there offense off the field which Knowshon will do a great job of like last year. Floridas line is a lot smaller and they will get ran over next week. the best way to beat a speedy florida defence is to run right at them, GA 45 FL 28. pS Teabow might be a great guy and all but if he is trailing and getting pressured he chokes under that pressure. haha go dawgs!

Going to be a great game coming up this Saturday. Two mighty trains on the same track heading at each other at full speed. Without a doubt, even with Texas-Texas Tech, best game of the week. Even Courso and Herbstreit said they wanted to be there.

As an objective fan of SEC football, I think the Gators have a great team. I also know that historically, we get better as the year goes on and we proved that theory today. One team will come away with the victory next Saturday and play Bama for all the marbles. As a homer, I think it will be UGA. But I expect the Gator fans to be sure that they will win also. Think I will record this one as I did last years. Two great teams playing their best of the season collide in “The World’s largest Cocktail Party”, take that Mike Adams. It don’t get any better than this.

Congradts Dawgs on a stellar win, take Sunday off and start preparing for the game of your life. These are what dreams are made of. Your destiny is in your hands, pull it in and head for the endzone. GO DAWGS!!

Congratulations on a very impressive win in Death Valley.

I am in deep mourning, however, since my beloved Yellow Jackets suffered a tough loss to their nemesis, Virginia.

“Bad Pit Bull Dawgs” are gleefully rejoicing over our downfall and are barking all over the Tech blogs. These guys will probably also be dancing on the graves of their hated mammas. Fortunately, the true Dawg fans are much classier than that.

Good luck against the Gators. Defend the honor of the grand old state of Georgia. Remember: we are one of the original 13. Florida is not!

We have yet to see the bulldogs best game. We have yet to see them firing on all cylinders for four quarters. Richt and team have been excellent at patching this team. But, they have to be perfect against UF. It will be the game of the year, a hard fault nasty brawl. I am glad that the LSU game was not as physical as I expected. UGA cannot afford stupid personal fouls against UF.

That celebration last year did not win the game. I am tired of hearing about what a raw deal it was for UF. UGA was penalized thirty yards for it. End of story.

They had best be ready to play a healthy Tebow. Games like this don’t come down to who wants it more; they come down to who executes better. Georgia to the man must understand that to win this game.

Mark, Stick to one side of the fence like your buddy Terrance Moore. We don’t like him, but he’s consistent with his tune. I would bet the farm the guy already is working on an article detailing how UGA will get a beatdown in Jacksonville. I don’t think he’s at the AJC to make sense. He’s just there to stir the pot.

The UF-UGA game will take care of itself next weekend. No use in predicting at this point, wait 7 days and do a “scoreboard” post.

Someday you UGA “fans” will figure this one out. Don’t go on your victory lap before the game (or the season for that matter. It wasn’t two months ago that UGA won the BCS and Knowshawn won his Heisman)

Okay Ugly, you beat LSU on their home field very convincingly. But remember Les Miles and Urban Meyer have won back to back National Championships, something your coach has not done. Don’t pat yourselves on the back to early this year because everyone in the country saw what Alabama did to you in one half of football. UF is sound is every phase of the game and are healthy this year. Beware of the Gator wrath you will endure this year from a very focused team!
