This blog has moved! Yes, already!
As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.
New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

Bradley’s Buzz: The fallout after Georgia’s fall
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Dogs, the Tide and the future
This feature is in just its seventh week of operation, but already I feel a proprietary interest. Indeed, as I was leaving the Sanford Stadium press box Saturday night — actually Sunday morning — I told Pat Forde of ESPN.com and Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports, “You national guys be sure to write something good so I can link to it.”
Said Wetzel, gesturing to his computer and referencing the strange Nick Saban press conference we’d just attended: “I’m afraid this [effort] is more like Alabama’s second half than Alabama’s first half.”
Luckily for Buzz readers, he was being modest. Some very fine journalism was committed after a surprisingly lopsided game. Here’s Wetzel on Coach Satan, and here’s Forde on Alabama. And here’s Dennis Dodd of CBSsports.com on why the Tide deserves to be No. 1.
And here, from Andy Staples of SI.com, is a dismissal of Georgia’s national-championship hopes, which I must point out stands in opposition to what I wrote about the Bulldogs for the ol’ AJC. For a more detailed take on what the events of last week mean in the grand scheme, check out this breakdown from Pete Flutak of FoxSports.com, who suggests Georgia (or Florida) could still play for the national title if it wins the rest of its games.
And here’s a technical analysis of just why the game wound up the way it did. Matt Hayes of the Sporting News judges Alabama’s offensive line alongside Georgia’s and finds more contrasts than comparisons.
And here’s a promise: In the interest of variety, next Monday’s Buzz will not — repeat, will not — be yet another aggregation of Georgia postgame links. Know why? Because Georgia doesn’t play this week. Hee, hee.
Misery loves (and has lots of) company
When the local team crashes, there’s nothing quite like reading about some other team’s flop to restore some perspective. In that spirit, here’s a quick trip around the South to other losing locales.
In Jacksonville for Florida State’s victory over Colorado, Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel describes FSU’s glee over Florida’s loss to Ole Miss. Writing for the Gainesville Sun, Pat Dooley paints a portrait of a crestfallen Tim Tebow.
Georgia fans grieving over one loss need to step back and imagine how it would feel to have lost twice already. Clemson has, and Bart Wright of the Greenville News says time might at last be running out on Tommy Bowden.
And Tennessee just lost its third game, prompting John Adams of the Knoxville News-Sentinel to do what we columnists do when we’re not firing the head coach — call for a change of quarterbacks.
Tech could go 11-1, says Tech player
Defensive end Michael Johnson, in an as-told-to effort in Sporting News Today, says we shouldn’t be surprised if his team finishes 11-1 and avers “the only team that can beat Georgia Tech is Georgia Tech.”
Don’t laugh. Tech is actually pretty good. And I well remember Ken Swilling saying Tech would go undefeated in 1990. It finished 11-0-1 and was the UPI national champion.
Tex must be re-signed! (Your turn, Angels!)
Writing in the Los Angeles Times, the venerable Ross Newhan — whose son David played baseball at Georgia Tech — lobbies for the L.A. teams to keep their high-profile midseason acquisitions long-term. In the Dodgers’ case, he means Manny Ramirez. In the Angels’, he means Mark Teixeira, of whom you’ve heard.
Scott Boras represents Teixeira. Scott Boras also represents Ramirez. Scott Boras runs baseball. But you knew that already.
Speaking of Scott Boras …
I’m guessing you can guess the identity of the Boras client Jayson Stark of ESPN.com calls the National League’s least valuable player. Here are three hints: The guy used to be thin, used to be really good and used to be a Brave. Now he’s none of the above.
Ode to a Grecian earner
According to Bill Ingram of Hoopsworld, Josh Childress missed the game-winning shot in his debut for Olympiakos and hasn’t looked like a world-beater in any of his first three appearances. Hawks loyalists might see this as karma for Childress’ abrupt departure. Me, I believe the Hawks forfeited all claim to karma when they drafted Shelden Williams.

We must let it play out at least three more weeks, until we get into the meat of the conference play. This way we can judge who is the team to beat. Right now, it is just too early to say. Georgia will bounce back, Bama will lose one, that is a given.

People…get a life. It was one game. Same as last year against Tennessee and even as far back as West Virginia. We didn’t take it serious in the first half and got it handed to us. Go to the locker room, get chewed out and come back out and show the real team. We made alot of mistakes and have alot to work on…but NOBODY was beating Alabama in that first half. They did everything perfect. Congrads to them and now we focus on Tennessee, period.

I’ll Still take Richt over:::
Myer Saban Fulmer Tubberville
The guy has won 80% of his games in the SEC. No title yet, but it’ll come. Talent base gets better every year. Saban will be working his Magic somewhere else in a year or two for 6 Mil ( he loves the money and drama better than football) . New man in Knoxville soon. Keep an eye on the Guy at Vandy for that job.

Way too focused on silliness like “blackouts” … Bama showed us what intensity, commitment mean. Love Coach Richt, but he needs to learn from the Master who just took him to the woodshed! Commitment, intensity WIN, not bull@#%^ like “Blackouts”

Not much to be said that hasn’t already but I do want to thank you Mark for adding all these “links”. Excellent reading. georgia’s loss was mainly because their confidence turned to arrogance. all the dog fans i talked to earlier in the week already had bama getting beat before they even entered the stadium. the games have to be played first before a winner can be determined. they neglected the first rule of battle, never underestimate your opponent. i think the arrogance came and the discipline slipped at the time of that silly, stupid, disrectful showboating on the field in the florida game last year. saban would not allow that and bama had one penalty and won. all of the big georgia penalties were legit and were just plain stupidity of the players involved, i don’t like refs much so that’s hard to say, but the big calls were legit. but i knew georgia was in trouble when bama scored their first touchdown and all the uga fans and players were stunned, like they were thinking ‘i can’t believe this team came to play and we are actually going to have to try to play and win a football game, how dare that team from bama’. yes they came to play and you can guarantee every team in the sec will come to play every week. and with the defense being suspect and the offensive line arguing with each other, there is less hope than some her may think. y’all just need to pray you’ll be able to even beat tech this year, and if you go in thinking that’s a freebie game like you did this one you’ll need to be wearing your black shirts again like high school girls calling each other the night before to coordinate their ensemble, how silly. enjoy your next blackout ‘wake’.

Tide. It gets the black out.
Oh, what joy it was to watch that one. Was interesting to hear my barking neighbors fall deafeningly silent around 8:45. Not sure if it was a result of the merciless beating or the 12 hours of keg stands with Schlitz and Old Milwaukee.

The BLACK jersey’s are good…they are 50% of the official U of G colors! Hello, it’s possible to lose with red or white jersey’s …why is this an issue? Keep them… WEAR them and WIN with them! You Gators need to get over the “celebration”…funny how the TV announcers didn’t have a problem with it! The same folks whining about Richt now are the same folks who were whining about Richt after the Tenn loss last year.
And they’re the same folks who were saying Richt was going an excellent job at the end of last season.

There is no doubt in my mind, if UGA or Florida wins the rest of their games, they will be in Miami. No way a one loss SEC Champion gets left out of the title game, the analysts are really showing their ignorance if they think UF and UGA’s title hopes are gone. The only problem is UGA can’t win the rest of the games, but I do think they can win all but one, and even then as long as it is against someone other than UF they still have a shot at the title game. My God, we have only played a month of games.

Not out of the running yet. Anybody who watched last year remembers that LSU lost their last regular season game and still played in the “NC” game. We have some O-line issues to address and some pass rush issues to address. If CMR can get those ironed out, it still could be a successful season. Tennessee almost beat Auburn Saturday and , in actuality, should have won that game. We’d better be ready for another tough SEC matchup when they come to Athens. It’s likely that no one, except possibly Oklahoma, will go through the season without a loss. As far as firing Richt, someone’s been smoking locoweed. He’s won over 80% of his games. You won’t find another coach who can do that, especially playing an SEC schedule.

Bama played a damn good game and we did not. But to say all Georgia fans are rude, not so fast. For grow men (Bama fan) to get in a woman face and turn their mouth that RUDE. There are alot of Rude fans on any team. It pretty bad that my friends that are BAMA fans are now on the bandwagon, last year they were not, I do not get in their face about any games that we won again Bama. I always pulled for them if they werenot playing Georgia. But after this weekend I will never go that low again. I think that calling me retarded and a few other choice words was RUDE AS H!ll.
The team of BAMA play a great game, best wishes to them. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Saint” Mark Richt is nothing more than a younger, less senile version of his mentor, Booby Bowdown.
Like good ole Booby, “Saint” Mark can compile the talent. (Of course, when you’re in a state with so many good high school athletes - and you let it be known that football players can do anything they want in Athens - you should be able to recruit top-notch talent.)
Anyway … with all of the penalties, “Saint” Mark’s players are showing the same lack of discipline ON the field that they display OFF the field.
This should come as no surprise, since “Saint” Mark played at Miami and coached at FSU - two of the most undisciplined and classless programs in the country.
The bottom line? “Saint” Mark is a phony who must cover up his mediocre coaching skills by resorting to dime-store psychological ploys to “motivate” his players.
P.S. I wonder what kind of eulogy “Saint” Mark delivered after Bama buried the pups.
P.P.S. I wonder which vulgar rap song “Saint” Mark will allow his players to dance to on the field this season.
P.P.S. I wonder if they play Souljah Boy during the Sunday morning services at “Saint” Mark’s church. (Supaman dem hoes, coach!)

To Mark Bradley-
In your humble opinion, under what circumstances and/or at what point does Coach Mark Richt start to feel some heat in Athens because of his teams failure win a BCS title, or at least reach the game (i.e. how many years do you give him to reach the title game) The reason I ask is because he has recruited top classes like no other in the SEC, than maybe Florida/LSU, both of which have won the titles, yet he doesn’t seem to get over the hump. Every championship team has incurred injuries and managed to pull it together. How long will the fans and boosters give Richt before he starts to feel some heat and pressure to make something happen? At least with Fulmer @ Tennessee, he has won the title once.

Hey, every school has rude, loud and obnoxious fans. But they’ve all became suddenly quiet and stood with their mouths open when playing against Alabama. It’s a real shocker when you’ve been so loudly declaring your team’s superiority and invincibility, only to see them get slapped around on their home field. I knew we would win, but 31 to 0 at the half? Wow, I was embarrassed FOR Georgia. By the way, whoever makes it to Miami this year will be playing against ALABAMA!

It is simple, perfect storm, start back from arizona state game, taking day off to recoopertate, espn game day+blackout got the UGA team unfocused. Also you can not start 2 fr and 2 soph. on your offensive line in the SEC conference which was proven in the alabama game, and UGA does not have the dominant defensive line to get to the quarterback. My grandma in a wheel chair could have ran behind the alabama off. line. We will see them again this year and I will guaratee that mark richt will have the dawg ready for that game.

UGA played a horrible game this weekend. Instead of working on these issues: 1. Penalties 2. Catching the ball 3. Throwing into double and triple coverage UGA once again lost the game themselves, and the desperate try to reclaim some kind of score was far to late. Alabamais good, not that good, and we could have beat them if Richt would grow some and put these issues to rest. Instead he let his team and sorry Stafford lose the Game. I am not a fan of Stafford, he has the same issues every year, mainly under pressure he chokes, and he throws into double and triple coverage on a continual basis. The repeated ball dropping is unexcusable for the same players week after week. I hope we learned a valuable lesson this weekend and prepare for the game against Tenn. UGA came and acted like they were playing Ga Southern again and got slaughtered.

MIke Bianchi is one of my favorite writers.
At what point does Mark Richt start to feel heat in Athens? Oh, maybe when he stops winning so many games. Let’s total it up: Seven seasons, three division titles, two SEC championships, five Top 10 finishes. Only LSU has been better over the same span, and LSU changed head coaches after the 2004 season.

“One fluke win over UGa” - A fluke win? You do realize that Georgia didn’t just lose, they got demolished, right? Georgia had not scored a single point by halftime, while Bama had 4 touchdowns and a field goal. At no time during the game was Georgia EVER winning, or even close to winning. Georgia was only a #3 team in the imagination of the AP Pollsters.

I agree. Saturday’s game was no fluke. Alabama scored five times in the first half, and none of those were fumble-return touchdowns. The Tide was much the better team on this particular night.
But there’s more than half a regular season still to go, as Saban pointed out in his postgame address. And his is the ultimate week-by-week sport.

I know they aren’t this way - but here is what I think the polls SHOULD BE **UGA #1 (we did lose, but to a good #8 in conf team). Our tradetion should count for something. #2 Alabama, cause they beat us #3 Oklahoma, I haven’t seen them play, but their highlights look good #4 LSU #5 Penn State.
Of all of these teams, we have the best tradetion of winning and we started the year at number 1. We have the best athleats and facilitees in the country. Also, we lost a couple of key players during the game - so the poll voters should think about that.
It’s hard right now, but like Coach Richt said, our goals are the same as the start of the season - to win our 6th national campionship. GO DAWGS**

I’m embarrassed, not Ohio State humiliated, but really, really embarrassed! Getting blown out by 31 in the first half in our own house raises serious questions about the state of Dawg football. We aspire to be a top 10 team, year in and year out, always in the hunt for the national championship. It isn’t happening and it isn’t going to happen with this coaching staff. We have an “A” program with “B” coaching. If you want to see what an “A” coach looks like, just peer across the field at Nick Saban. The Tide showed up in Athens ready to play; the Dawgs showed up ready to play Wofford.
Here’s why Richt and company have to go: • Last year the Dawgs were good enough to play for the national championship. Losing to inferior South Caroline and getting blown out at Tennessee prevented us from getting the chance. • National powers do not play Hawaii in the Whatever Bowl. • “A” coaches have their teams ready to play big games. Competing and losing is one thing. Rolling over to and getting rolled by the Tide is yet another.
What’s Vince doing these days?

Coach RICHT is know for his faith and being a good man parents want their child to play for, but the “LACK OF DISCIPLINE” is showing in all the YELLOW FLAGS and it cost the DAWGS BIG TIME in this game. Paul J. is p** every game because of the mental mistakes and execution of the offense, and I love that. CMR needs to make off-field and on-field DISCIPLINE a real issue. No PENALITALIS off-field makes the player think the rules don’t apply on-field IMO. UGA has a chance to meet BAMA again because the EAST is weak, but cutdown on the FLAGS. Please realize the “LONGEST PUNT RETURN FOR A TD” had a missed call for Blocking in the Back everybody saw on replay for sure. Play hard and get your heads back in the game TENN is going to be up for you guys.

After a day of whimpering, the loud mouths and now crowing about the SEC Championship. Just forget about Florida, LSU, and Auburn. Georgia will be lucky to beat Tech. You had best be worrying about Tennessee. Saban is browbeating his team for a let up in the second half, and Richt and his menions are already looking ahead to the conference championship. Wallybutts has it exactly right. Georgia has all the talent and resources it needs to be in the BCS hunt, but we simply don’t have the coaching staff to do it. Mark Richt is a good man, and he’s taken the Dawgs to a higher level of play. But I just don’t believe he has the intensity to take them all the way. You need somebody else in the driver’s seat to do that. Mark will field a good team every year, but he’ll never field a BCS championship team. You don’t get there by playing half a game, or half a season. You don’t get there by wearing black jerseys. You don’t get there by waiting until the 5th game to realize you have a problem with penalties. So we’ll see a lot of top 20 and maybe a few top 10 finishes under Mark Richt, but we won’t have the consistency or intensity to ever win the BCS title. It’s as simple as that.

Mark, Did you really mean to write Coach Satan in your article instead of Saban? I know you guys proof read your articles so I was just curious or if it was just a Freudian slip or if it was intentional. Looking at my keyboard I could see someone accidentally hitting an n or a v which are both right beside the b but I don’t see how you could type a t instead of a b unless it was intentional.

hey Drifter,
U mention that this is the same Alabama team that lost to La-Monroe last year. I can’t disagree with you more. Last year was last year. This year is this year. Every team and every year is different. Teams can make big leaps from year to year and also can have big downfalls in 1 year.

Any sportswriter that claims a one loss SEC team is “out of the picture” should be fired on principle. Did he just start following CFB this season?
And let me get this straight: a Tech player thinks that Tech can win the rest of its games? Astounding.

Hey Mark,
Is it a lame attempt at humor to call him Satan or does the media really hate him that much? I will gladly admit that he’s gruff toward the media, he hates dumb questions, and at times seems a little rude toward reporters.
Is that the reason or is it because he said he wasn’t interested in the bama job when he was with the dolphins and then changed his mind after the season and ended up taking the job? He left the Dolphins on good terms with Wayne Heizenga. And he was truthful and let Wayne know where his head was from the whole time he was initially approached by bama to the time he changed his mind and decided to consider the job. It seems to me that this whole controversy about the way he left was generated by the media owing to the simple fact that he was always terse with them. How else can one explain that he and Heizenga are still on good terms?
Incidentally, I believe the hype on GA. Tech. They are going to give lots of people problems from here on out and will be tough to beat in every single game this season. Good for you Ga. Tech!

Anyone who thinks “chicfilasux” shouldn’t be allowed to post, have an opinion, or breathe, imo.
Also, once again, Moreno had 34 yards because you can’t call running plays when you’re down by that much. Anyone with half a brain realizes this, it’s unfortunate you don’t qualify in that regard.

As a bama fan I was impressed and take my hat off to the real UGA fans who didn’t leave after halftime. Most of the stuck around and from what I could see on tv most of them didn’t start leaving until it was 41-17 with about 4 or 5 minutes left when the game really was over.
I respect those fans for never quitting on their team. But I just can’t understand all the fans on this board posting that Richt has got to go. This is just one bad game and quite frankly everyone gets whipped eventually. To call for his dismissal after 2 secs in 7 years, several bcs bowl games, and the 2nd highest win total over the same time frame is just ludicrous.
Take it from a Bama fan. U don’t want to go through the coaching carousel we went through(Dubose, Price, Franchione, Shula)before getting it right or with the carousel you went through with Goff and Donnan before getting in right with Richt. He’s a proven winner and this is just one game.

The first half of the Alabama-Georgia game confirmed my suspicion after the first four games that Georgia’s assistant coaches so far are faiing to do their job. As an assistant in my field for the past four decades, it is the assistant’s responsibility to PREPARE the team BEFORE the game begins. They do a good job at half time, as evidenced by the second-half surge, but it is my opinion that the assistants need to do a better job reviewing the films of their opponents and thereby preparing the team for what to expect; also, it is their job to teach DISCIPLINED yet agressive play on EVERY play. If the assistants will do their job, Georgia can win the rest of their games. Thank you for your optimism! I, too, am optimistic - PROVIDED assistant coaches do their job.

LSU won the NC after losing 2 games but both were in overtime. They never got their a$$ handed to them. The game was not as close as the score. Two definite blocks in the back on the long return and the last two scores were pity scores. You see when Bama turned up the heat after the wimpering pups scored they put 10 more points on the board. You are just not that good pups….your first real test and you failed it miserably. Look for at least 2 more loses and maybe 3. Maybe the Outback or Chicken Bowl for you this year.

The dog fans trying to rationalize their Saturday night massacre, calling it a fluke, and dreaming about “winning out” either know nothing about football, didn’t see the game, or are just plain stupid. Ga didn’t just lose, they were dominated in every phase of the game. If you looked objectively, you saw that GA looked small and slow compared to ALA…perhaps ga fans should have realized what was coming after unimpressive wins over the 4 cupcakes to start the year. Ga fans can stop dreaming about BCS, and hope they make it to Shreveport. Maybe, with two weeks off they can be competitive with TN, but it is not a lock. The team I see might get one win out of FL, LSU, AUB, GT…and one more out of Vandy/KY games. 7/5 looks about right, but might luck out and go 8/4.
Clearly, somebody (such as stupid recruiting services and their 5 star ratings)have led the dog nation to seriously overrate this team. All of the Richt gimmicks can’t substitute for the obvious lack of talent on this team.

UGA was just flat after that long trip back from the west coast, and got caught up in the hype with the blackout, espn, etc. In Atlanta, things will be different. UGA beats bama by 30-16. Two obvious delusional UGA fans.
UF, LSU and AU will result in a minimum of 2 losses. You just had a bunch of hyped talent- nothing real.
Wearing black at night resulted in UGA getting mugged , their wallets stolen, and exposure as a fraud when their true identity was revealed. (Ok so I stole that from Lou Holtz).
Mark this down since your writing, if TN get’s a quarterback spark from one of their two alternates they are going to be very difficult. The fat one finds a way to beat UGA. Something like a 14-7 record over the last two decades.

The Dawgs were obviously overrated from the beginning. That doesn’t mean that they do not have a good team. But what do you expect when you’ve replaced key players on the offensive and defensive lines and in the defensive secondary? It will take the newcomers some time to mature and play at a championship level. They should improve over the season and end up in a decent bowl game, just not the national championship game.

We got our azz waxed by a better team on that night. I didn’t recognize the Georgia offense but unfortunately I did the defense. I recognized it from last year. Tips my hat to Bama. They came ready to play and we had the deer in the headlights look I saw in Tennessee last year.
I don’t think there were many Georgia fans that expected to go thru this schedule undefeated but we were not expecting this loss. It only makes for the season to be much more difficult than anticipated. We are in the unfortunate position of hoping we win out in the East and Bama takes care of the West for a rematch. Other than that I think our NCG is out of the question

Oh the poor puppies are still crying and making excuses - could UGA still play in the Nat’l Champ game - sure as long as they win their div first - Note UGA must play in the sec champ game to win the division - remember last year. UGA is loaded with talent but still can not get it done - oh well maybe Vanderbilt will take care of business since UGA can not. BUT UGA should keep their heads up they did play extremely well against Bama’s 2nd and 3rd team when the game was already OVER! GO BAMA!

As a BAMA man, I know it is hard for you DawgPound folks to take a beating like this…man, we have waited awhile to get together a bunch to do it.. but, it is not fair for you to start burning Richt in effigy.. hard for a youthful line in the SEC to be stars and with another year of experience, they will be much better.. and, you do have the nucleus of a very good team… “on any given day”.. but, I will have to say two things: I do think Richt is weak in ‘motivational skills’..and, probably needs to get a little tighter on his assistants..but, the motivational side seems to have been a key issue for awhile, even thru the success of winning.. another point, and let me first say, there are incidents at a lot of schools.. but, the actions of a few seem to make the whole community look bad, and some of your frat boys and a few others went to extremes pregame, when they spat in the face of a two year old in her father’s arms, wrecked a tent and knocked over a couple of women and yelled at elderly people.. that is a little too extreme..!! and, the game had not even started..plus there are some incidents thereafter.. hopefully, we can all get a little better at sportsmanship like our teams to be better fans.. good luck the rest of the season..!!!

But he soon saw me in his face firing back, red headed women can be very dangerous. I don”t give anyone any sh*t and I have friends that are fans of Bama and other teams and they will be the first to tell I never say we are going to beat anyone. I tell we will see at the end. Being a true fan that wears my Dawgs shirt win or lose, no matter what. But one thing I will not watch or take is any fan getting in some older person face, women or kids that just as low class as it gets. And I will not back down from anyone, only The Good Lord and my mom. BAMA played a great game. Good luck with the season. You other jerks make football no fun, its a game jerks. Here’s what I make of the UGA-BAMA game…nothing. It was certainly disturbing to see a team that was completely unprepared and lacked discipline (UGA) and a team so in tune with what the other was scheming (BAMA) as to make you wonder??? The game was won by the better team physically & mentally, but you don’t “punch your ticket in September” (Kirk Herbstreit). UGA looked equally embarrassing last year at UT, but they have plenty of time for redemption. I believe that the dawgs will get better week to week and will peak towards the end of the season when it counts the most. The sad thing for BAMA is that it peaked Saturday and now have no where to go but down. Mark my words, they will lose two games and it will be LSU not BAMA in the SEC Championship game. Just my opinion.

Great article Mr. Bradley. Matt Hayes of the Sporting News seems to have the best understanding of what happened on Saturday and why it happened. Nick Saban has built all of his great teams around great offensive and defensive lines. It is amazing how good an average QB and RB can be when they have a great offensive line blocking for them (example: Alabama). And it is amazing how average a great QB and RB can look with a bad offensive line not blocking for them (example: Georgia). It was the offensive line that came together for Georgia last year for the Florida game that almost propelled that team to the BCS Championship game. That line started off looking as bad as this years group. I would imagine that this offensive line will only get better as the year goes on. Georgia could and might win the rest of its games setting up a rematch against Alabama in the SEC Championship. Don’t know that Georgia would win in a rematch against the Tide but it would probably be a better contest than the first. Then again, Alabama might not make it through the rest of it’s schedule without a loss either. Their future opponents certainly took note of what Alabama just did to Georgia and the Tide will not be taken too lightly by anybody the rest of the season. This Dawg fan certainly appreciates what Nick Saban has done at Alabama. I also appreciate the fact that he made no Smart A** comments after the game and was pretty classy during his post game interviews.

As for Bama, you guys came to play(rather win). Congrats to ya’ll.
Last year we went into the off week with the same issues, O-line and no D pressure on the opposing QB. The coaching needs to get busy and coach them up like they did last year.

Looks like the Thuga nation is making excuse for the Eclipse that happened in Athens Saturday night. Real classy of Saint Richt to say that his Thugs needed to get after Bama’s a* during his interview before halftime. I guess he’ll ask the fans to wear Pink against the Big Orange next week. Will he tell them to celebrate if they make it to half time and only have 100 yards in penalty? LSU will destroy Thuga and Florida will too.

I find it remarkable that a Gator fan has the audacity to come on this board and mock UGA. Your team lost to an unranked team at home! Yeah, we got blown out in the 1st half of our game, but came back and lost by a respectable 11 pts in the 2nd half. Pretty remarkable considering we were down by 31 pts at halftime. I have not been impressed with Florida thus far, UGA appears to be the better team again this yr. And we are still ahead of you in the polls. See you in Jax, the Dawgs will be ready to play, just as they were last year. GO DAWGS!

There are certain proven laws of the universe. Among them are:
The only GA team that can win a nat champ is Tech because that’s the way the world wants it.

I am not an UGA fan, but mentioning Tech in here is amusing to say the least. You play in a cupcake conference and you have been a cupcake team for years. You don’t stand a chance against the elite teams in the SEC. UGA, Florida, LSU, Auburn and Bama would eat you for lunch. ACC is a joke.

The Dogs were not ready, that goes without saying. I am kind of sick of our fans getting their a**es over the dashboard. Fans aren’t coaching or playing the games. Shut up! Be proud and supportive and quit being big ole fat ugly Nebraska and Florida-like idiots bragging about kicking somebody’s team to the gutter.
Oh crap. As in (…from Sporting News):
C is for Cro-mag’d. Humiliating Georgia is one thing, but doing it in a manner that has the fanbase giddily waxing their pickups on a sunny Sunday morning is quite another. It’s not just that Alabama packed the brass knuckles and blackjack for their trip to Athens and, yes, turned the Blackout into “a motherf—-ing funeral,” as Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran would call it. It’s that Saban’s team, while indelibly his own — the Cover 2 noose on display should have given you frightening flashbacks of Saban’s LSU teams — still looked so much like the great Tide teams of the past. The lines were tree-shredder nasty; Coffee, Upchurch, and Ingram pounded north/south runs all night long with obstinate cruelty; John Parker Wilson deserved an Emmy for playing the role of Jay Barker with a better haircut for most of the night. Your spread foolishness be damned: Bama’s beatdown was pure cromag football in all its brutal, pounding glory.
E is for Egads. As painful as USC’s loss was (literally and figuratively,) as inept as Florida was made to look by Ole Miss, as badly brickbatted as Georgia was against Alabama … no result makes less sense than Wisconsin’s loss to Michigan. None. Going into the fourth quarter, Wisconsin stood poised with P.J. Hill to hammer the nails into a 19-7 victory with the cheese-fed beef of the Badgers’ line and the clock rules behind them.
G is for Gelling. Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge appear to be gelling nicely after a bumpy start, if the Bama/Georgia broadcast is any indication of an emerging trend. Patrick was enthusiastic and concise Saturday night and kept the non-sequiturs in check, while Blackledge (aside from wearing a ghastly tie) did a superb job delineating Alabama’s gameplan for the viewer. (Not that the gameplan was that complex: “1. Beat hell out of Georgia’s defense. 2. Beat hell out of Georgia’s offense. 3. Repeat until 60:00 elapses.”)
However:
K is for Kudo. To Ben Jones of Georgia, who much of the time was left alone one-on-one with the continent known as Terrance Cody, and acquitted himself well against the most difficult one-on-one block in all of college football 2008.
Maybe we will see Nick Satan and the red elephants in Atlanta in December. They will remember, and so will we.

Mark,
One loss to the #2 team in the land and the Dawgs are getting thrown to the lions by the media…the twisted logic of a system governed by the views of fickle people who know sh!t about football never cesases to amaze me. We are told that the hottest team in the land, UGA, can’t be in the NC last year because if you look at the whole body of the season…they don’t deserve it. Now, it is still September, and Alabama is the hottest thing since USC. Oh the agony we must endure in not having a playoff system.

My hats off to Alabama. They came in here and handed our butts to us in front of the world. Now the only thing UGA can do is either man up like they did after the UT whipping last year or let it kill their spirit and their season. If UGA wins out, we get another shot at em’ in the SEC CG and a chance at redemption. If they don’t get the lines figured out, it’s over. Just don’t know why they commit so many stupid, unneccessary penalties. They kill even the most talented teams. Not making excuses though. Congrats to UA for playing better and obviously wanting it more. One day maybe Martinez will become a proactive rather than reactive defensive coordinator. This game looked almost identical to the West Virginia game a few years ago. If UGA plays four quarters of defense, they’re unstoppable.

The only winners in the blackout debacle were the bookstores and retail outlets selling the black shirts, etc. Now, its about danm time to get serious about penalties, coaching, mental attitude, basic football which includes pass coverage without holding, etc……. Get with the danm program!

I haven’t read the entire blog here because I just got home from Texas but toward the bottom here it seems that the techies are mentioning a national championship. Didn’t you guys just lose to Virginia Tech? Give me a break. I’m telling you that the triple option will probably average 7 or 8 wins a year in the ACC. It won’t win many games vs SEC teams. MSU is not a win to get too excited about. Croom is gonna be gone soon.

Everyone who is hating on these black jerseys are the same people who were praising coach Richt last year, he is a great coach and we are lucky to have him here at UGA, period, no questions asked, the simple fact that we are up in arms over this loss proves it, 10 years ago everyone was praying for 8 wins, now thats a down year, thats one heck of a job building up a program

Gosh, some people are so negative, you think one loss early in the season keeps them from having a chance at the NC. It was 31-0 at halftime and they came back with 30 pts. STFU. They lost, but now know what they need to work on for our next games. Have some faith.

I still say why did the public have to watch the second half of that debacle on Sat night instead of being switched to another game at halftime? The networks need to estalblish a policy. If I were President -Coach Adams I would have offered $500,000 to the network to switch away from my team. That was a bad PR move. Again UGA needs professional PR badly.

KJ suffers from what I like to call “extreme championship frustration.” A*******hole fans from schools such as Clemson (‘81), Auburn (‘57), and UGA (‘80) suffer from this type of behavior caused by decades of frustration from lack of a National Title. I won’t kill myself, but your coaching staff’s lack of focus on discipline and game preparation did cost you a title shot, and your little buddy Kno-yards Moreno any chance at the Heisman. That’s a trophy for men. Old Gold Out.

Hey Mark Bradley,
I came back to see if you would answer my question about why the media hates Saban. Your replied that the media doesn’t hate Saban, that Saban hates the media. I’m still laughing my arse off. I knew he was always less than enthuised about the media but now I’m hit with a stunning realization. You are correct sir! I guess he really does hate the media. Still laughing here.

georgia’s loss was mainly because their confidence turned to arrogance. all the dog fans i talked to earlier in the week already had bama getting beat before they even entered the stadium. the games have to be played first before a winner can be determined. they neglected the first rule of battle, never underestimate your opponent. i think the arrogance came and the discipline slipped at the time of that silly, stupid, disrectful showboating on the field in the florida game last year. saban would not allow that and bama had one penalty and won. all of the big georgia penalties were legit and were just plain stupidity of the players involved,
First off, I would congratulate Coach Saban, his staff and the Alabama players on coming prepared to play and handing us our lunch in that first half.
But si or whatever you call yourself- all those penalties were not legit and any person watching that game Saturday, if they were totally honest, would have to admit that. Now having said that IMHO it wouldn’t have made much of a difference as Alabama dominated the line of scrimmage. I’m still proud of my team for pulling it together in the second half.
Go Dawgs

OK bullpup land
First UGA, let it rest you got DAWG in u r own backyard. Choke as u did before Stafford was still thinking golf or NASCA., Moreno dreaming about diving in the endzone before the game starts. Rest of the team looks as if it had a concussion or maybe a hangeover. BLACK OUT was a dream come true for all of u UGA bullpup land losers. You all just made a name for u r all when CMR arrived. CMR knows Saban is not a loser whether he’s in LSU or BAMA. Also, find another DC with those little 5-5 CB’s (Martinez).Allen and Brown are one DB put together. Rematch, that’s the rematch you all beat us at home last year. CMR need to get control of his team before you all be laughing stock again. So no excuses Vince and Hershel are gone just like the Bear. So stop all jawwing and crying or stay in the doghouse with Uga

Poor Dawgs. Now we have to go into Death Valley soon to play LSU with our little tail between our legs and hope the Tigers don’t put a whipping on us like ‘Bama did. That’s what happens when confidence turns into arrogance though.

this text will bolded Do I get The Last Word? Yes, Dawgs fell into a first half abyss that the longest tether would not pull us up. Alabama’s first half of 31 was enough to win over Georgia’s 30 point second half. And Coach Bobo offensive play calls were not crafty enough to squeeze out another 12 points to place us n the win columm. But, the bottom line is that Coach Richt will continue to be the winner that he is. And his players will continue to win and to place hard … and smart … for the University of Georgia.

Wow, unreal number of ultimate losers posting here.
Hey Bammers: First win over UGA since 1995. Wow. You are still 5-5 the past ten, so this idea of “dominance” is just a mirage.
Techsters and Michael Johnson: 11-1? LMAO!
Richt haters: Nothing you can do will slow down the UGA program, so sit back and shut up. UGA will continue winning 9+ games per year for as long as he coaches. He will average out 80% win percentage. Eat your hearts out!

Well the problems with the dawgs were obvious when they played S Car; defense is very loose. Just look at how Kentucky held Al. down, unheralded but did much better job of stopping their offense. I’m a fan but Ga. very overated. Hope they get good bowl game tho. “that dog will bite you”

Mark Bradley, I have often wondered the same thing myself . We, Georgia, always seem to have a young offensive line. Do none of these guys stick around for more that a year? Every year we seem to rebuilding the O line, what gives? Someone please explain that one!
