This blog has moved! Yes, already!
As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.
New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

Tidal wave blacked out Georgia’s hopes
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Athens — Forget Corso and Herbstreit. Forget Holtz and May. Forget, for that matter, anything you might have read in this space about Georgia being really good this year. For guidance in matters concerning college football, you had only to read the financial magazine Forbes, which last month proclaimed Nick Saban “the most powerful coach in sports.”
Here’s how mighty the Alabama man actually is: He came to Sanford Stadium and outflanked Mark Richt in a way nobody has since … since ever.
For all the blather about the blackout, the supposedly supercharged Bulldogs were the ones who performed as if unprepared. The Tide, by way of conspicuous contrast, acted as if it had awaited this moment of arrival since that long-ago night when George Teague stole the ball from Lamar Thomas in the Superdome. For the second time this young season, the Tide came to this state and sent a message to the masses: We’re back.
Once again, Bama football matters. And Georgia? Never has a band of Bulldogs so good been made to look so bad as in this first half.
Debit the Dogs, yes, but at the same time credit the Tide. Saban’s team handled the night far better than the home side, which appeared to believe its choice of haberdashery would cow the proud visitor. Much was made during the week of the leaked video that showed Alabama strength coach Scott Cochran suggesting the Bulldogs were donning black because they “were going to a [bleepity-bleep] funeral.”
Truth to tell, corpses show more fight than Georgia did in that unaccountable half. And Alabama was utterly resolute. Said Saban: “We focused on what we had to do. We knew we had to be single-minded in our approach and not be affected by the atmosphere.”
Bama played a perfect first half, mixing powerful inside running with John Parker Wilson’s deft passes to his splendid receivers. Wilson completed his first six tries. Alabama scored on its first five possessions. And poor addled Georgia kept being called for penalties, the same penalties they’d overcome in Columbia and in the desert, the penalties that left them no chance against an opponent of comparable skill.
It was 7-0 after 6-1/2 minutes, 17-0 after 18 minutes, 31-0 at the half. Not since the 1999 Auburn game had Georgia trailed by so much after a half, and this time Kevin Ramsey, the overmatched defensive coordinator on Jim Donnan’s next-to-last team, wasn’t to blame.
Richt kept waving his play sheet to the crowd, exhorting the masses to do what his team clearly couldn’t, which was stop Alabama. And the sleek Bulldog offense, the one with Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno and A.J. Green, couldn’t ding Saban’s defense. Georgia had four first-half first downs, Bama 17.
For his part, Saban didn’t play to any audience. He paced his sideline, clapping now and then. His mission had been accomplished in the days before his team hit town. He’d made believers of his men, and he’d handed them a scheme against which Georgia had no reply. He’d earned his $4 million this week.
Afterward, Saban was coaching still. He was upset his team bungled two onside kicks and had a punt blocked to let the Dogs within sniffing distance the second half. He actually said: “I hope we can learn from this.”
Owing to his dour demeanor, Saban has been dubbed Coach Satan by media wags, and surely his dark presence seemed appropriate in a place where most everyone was wearing black. “I know I don’t look happy,” Saban said. “But I am happy.”
The most powerful coach in all of sports is also the toughest to please.

I am following this from Bkk on a cloudy Sunday morning 12 time zones away, and am, for lack of a better word, stunned! What did the dogs do wrong in the first half? Couldn’t Moreno run against the Tide? I had set the DVR back home to record the game, now I am not sure it will be worth the time to check out the recording!

Bradley, you went ahead and declared the Dawgs 5-0 three weeks ago. It looks like they brought the same attitude to tonight’s game.
How many years of watching college football, particularly SEC football, will it take for you to realize there’s a reason they play the games? You’d think supposedly invincible USC losing Thursday night would be a wake up call to Dawg Nation that no game could be taken for granted, but Dawg Nation immediately went into a debate about whether they’d be #1 or not after they won tonight’s game.
Last year’s LSU national championship team was a handful of plays away from losing 4 or 5 games. Nobody is good enough to just show up and win. How long will it take for you to figure that out?

I love the SEC.
As I stated before and will live by, the “I’s” all lost again. Georgia, Tennessee and Florida all lost. None of these Teams know what “Team” is but they know “I” and they know trouble. Alabama fits the same mold but their coaching is just a bit better (and better paid). Don’t worry, Bama will loose too, heck, this year the SEC may beat themselves up and I don’t really want to see that as it is the Top in the Land.
Question, how long until St. Nick gets caught and on probation? He’s already gotten off one count not knowing he couldn’t contact kids.
The season is off to great start. No favorites from what I can see and wait until November to make the decission. Let’s hope Oklahoma looses a couple.

I’m just so proud of the dogs for coming back the way they did in the 2nd half. Richt should have had them rush the field after their 1st TD, then they might have won. I’m sure the dogs will dominate their remaining games and be right in the national title hunt in the end…unless they lose to FL, Auburn, LSU, and Tech! ah ha ha ha ha ha ha….

Again, Georgia comes out flat in a big game, especially on defense. At the half, CMR remarks that he “is not in charge” of firing up the team…who does that fall to? Martinez? This is not the first time we’ve seen an inability to make adjustments on the fly.
Perhaps the blackout was an admission on CMR’s part that he does not trust his coaching staff to provide the fire needed for the team to put forth an effort in a big time game. CWM must go at the end of the year. The recurring theme is bend-don’t-break early, then if things break your way (a la post-Vandy last year), pin your ears back at that point.
Of course, due credit to Bama. They hit us in the mouth early, and we didn’t respond. Maybe we are just young, and this can be a (another) learning experience.
Go Dawgs. We are not out of it…Ole Miss and Auburn saw to that today.

Mark B,
Forgive me for being the ultimate optimist, but at least we came out and competed in the second half. And scoff if you will, that final score doesn’t look as bad on a one-loss teams’ resume at the end of the year. For UGA, hope that LSU stays unbeaten until our date in a few weeks. Then hope bama stays unbeaten all the way to the SEC champ game.( I’m assuming it goes without saying that UGA can’t lose another game if it even wants to have a chance to get to Miami ). I know this post will get ridiculed, but I do want to say that yes, we were overrated, and I understand that. I also understand that even though we made the final score LOOK good, it was nowhere near that close. But we can still redeem ourselves. Also… congrats Bama, you are back, and you have a great team. Good luck and I hope to see you again in December.

I am a Georgia fan and I for one am glad that this game went down the way it did. I love the Dawgs, but the arrogance of their coaches to think that week after week the team’s talent could continue to overcome their lack of discipline and the coaches’ inability to instill it was sickening. Mark Richt is a great football coach, but these penalties are what’s keeping this team from a championship of any kind. They are killing themselves. If you can’t motivate your team without allowing them to play reckless football, then all the X’s and O’s in the world aren’t going to help. Wake up Mark!!! Let’s get it together with these kids so all of this immense talkent doesn’t go to waste.

Seriously, don’t complain about officiating….thad. The highest penalized team in the SEC accumulated the same number of flags as normal. I blame a highly penalized team on coaching, but you be the judge. No more of these comments please, how about suggestions to look better? How about more Moreno touches? We all knew this game would come close at some point. However I think Georgia quit playing hard in the 2nd Quarter. In the Second Half Georgia played offensively like anyone in The SEC knows how they should play. But this is SEC Football and you have to play 4 quarters. Georgia played ACC Style Football( not a slap against the ACC) More of Finesse Football On Offense. Georgia talks way too much trash on the field on Defense.( Ask any Official who has been there and witnessed it.) Georgia will rebound but they lost some key players before this game and lost a couple of more tonight. Saban did outcoach Richt tonight. He would probably outwork him 9 out of 10 times. Alabama played a better game tonight and Georgia fans need to take this loss and learn from it. That is what good, smart fans do. It belittles you to talk trash.

Both of these teams are better than, probably, than any of the other teams in the Top 10. Yes, I was thrilled as a Bama fan that the team played absolutely perfect football in the first half. But honestly, I’m just as impressed at the way Georgia came back in the second half. You guys have class, and a great team (and I would have said that win or lose. In fact last, year I said very much the same thing when Stafford beat Bama with that incredible pass in overtime. That was an NFL throw.) So don’t despair, the Dogs are much better than Florida. And I just hope we’ll meet you again in the SEC title game. I really do.

I was cheering for BAMA but hope UGA gets a rematch this year in ATL… you got beat pretty bad (regardless of the score) and have a tough schedule to go. Maybe the hype machine will die down and get you focused again. Bottom line is that BAMA is back and just makes the SEC all the more scary.
Having said that, you got outmatched tonight… didn’t look like a disciplined team with all of those penalties. Tighten up and hope GT brings an upset to the NC hopes at the end.

I have to admit I’m stunned. I thought this would be a close game, and I thought Alabama would have a chance to win. But I thought Georgia would win because, frankly, I thought Georgia was the better side.
Now I’m reassessing. I’m not jumping off the bandwagon, and one poster had it above, because I know full well the temptation to overreact to any single loss suffered by a highly ranked team is mighty. But I plan on writing something about where Georgia goes from here from Monday and, at the risk of spoiling things for myself, I can’t imagine I’ll come to the conclusion the Bulldogs are done.

We do not have good coaches. Look at the records. We have been lucky, played worse coaches but have been soundly beaten by good coaches. Richt is the best head coach we have ever had but both Bobo and Wm are so so coaches. If they are so good, let them become head coaches somewhere. If they were held to the same standards as our players are, they would have been benched (fired).

yup…we got an old fashioned A$$ whuppin tonight and a well deserved one, too. We weren’t prepared..We obviously spent way too much time reading our own press. Perhaps we’ll learn that gimics and jerseys don’t matter so much as playing the game…when you’re well-prepared. I have a good deal of respect for CMR, but I hope he, and they, learned a valuable lesson tonight: when you’re not ready, you can be beaten, even at home. It’s not the end of the world, or even the season, but, you have to take care of business. Tonight, Bama did. UGA didn’t. Thus the result. Admirable 2nd half effort, but, you win games, not halves. And Coach Richt…”get after their a$$” on national television…that was a troublesome lapse in judgement as well as a poor reflection on your employer.

Hey JT Money: GT does beat you, as will LSU, Auburn, and probably lowly Vandy for homecoming. It looks like your crappy team went from # 2 and a chance for BCS NC, to having a chicken sandwich at the Peach Bowl. LMFAO! GT RULES and you wont be able to stop the Jackets run offense. I think it showed how crappy your overated defense was tonight. Sorry, but KNOWSHOW aint winning no HEISMAN. Also, UGAly aint winning no National Championship. Sorry DAWG fans, but you all suck azz!

I should note that I was listening to the end of the Florida game on XM, and when Tebow was stopped on fourth down a huge cheer wafted across campus here.
Now it’s back to even between Georgia and Florida, and Vandy and Kentucky are the only unbeaten teams in the SEC East. (And Kentucky hasn’t yet played a conference game.)

I think Georgia will fall to No. 9 or 10. I think the LSU game will be huge, but only if Georgia beats Tennessee and Vanderbilt first.
I said coming into the season that a one-loss Georgia team could get to the BCS title game. Georgia now has its loss. It’s sudden death from here on.

Bradley, you thought Alabama had a chance to win? Could you point out where you put that in print before the game? Do you need me to pull up your comment that Georgia would be 5-0 because they were better than ASU and Alabama and their first real test would be against the mighty Tennessee Vols?

Hilarious! Who didn’t know how overrated the mutts were? Mark Richt is the most overrated coach in the SEC and his teams are rarely ready. Stupid personal fouls are a hallmark of a poorly coached team and contributed to at least 2 of the first half Bama scores. I can’t believe Richt continues to steal Georgia’s money. Too much talent to suck so bad …

We may have lost this game, but those black jerseys looked sweet. And that mohawk that Knowshon was sportin’? Smoove. Hey, Bulldogs, remember that FSU rap tape that Richt showed you a month or so ago and the story that went with it? Ba-zing! Hey, Georgia fans, remember holding your pee-pees after beating Central Michigan and complaining to ESPN that we never get any respect? S.E.C. football is about showing up in big games and smashing the other guy in the mouth. Next year, fans and players, let’s do that maybe once before getting cocky. This was inevitable.

Hopefully, we’ll take this third quarter and the Tulane game and learn not to let up. We didn’t play for sixty minutes tonight and that’s troubling. We can definitely improve.
Regarding UGA, earlier this week, I said the black out, Munson’s retirement, and the high ranking would work against Georgia. If you’re already a highly penalized team, you don’t need to be any more emotional.
There are obviously a lot of things we both can improve on from this game.

I am still dazed by how Alabama flat out took us down so easy. I think it could be Alabama controlling the line of scrimmage and of course the penalities against us all turned out to be some of the reasons why we lost. Adjustments at half time made the game a little more exciting, by showing more focus and deterimination. I believe the team has taken another lesson in life. The team is young, now with “experince” and have learned how to handle games of this magnitude. This I believe will be the game that will define our season either for the good or…. the not so good of a season. The team will be better prepared from here on. I still believe that the Dawgs can beat anyone left on our schedule, any where, any time. 7 games left…. 7 more wins.

If you’ll check back before the season, you’ll note that in the game-by-game breakdown I picked Georgia to win 21-17. That would seem to indicate — at least to me, anyway — that I thought Bama would be in the game.
I always thought this was a dangerous game — coming off two weeks on the road, coming right before a bye week — but I thought Georgia was good enough to handle it. I was wrong.

It’s hysterial how everyone that is not a UGA fan is trying to talk about how overrated UGA may have looked but where are the ones that talk about how underrated Alabama really played? I am a UGA fan and will be one regardless of their record at the END OF SEPTEMBER. Its what happens the remaining schedule that counts going forward. Tonight UGA was outplayed by a team that could very well be in the SEC Championship game. Besides, I would rather see UGA lose to a top 10 team that played great than a team not even ranked, especially if the team expected to lose by over 20 points. Congratulations Bama fans and enjoy your win with pride by talking about how good your team is, not how inferior your opponent played in 2 quarters.

Mark Bradley, September 4
“Georgia won’t fail anytime soon. It will be 5-0 come the Oct. 5 bye, 5-0 and ranked no worse than No. 2 in the land. (And if the Bulldogs are still No. 2, there’ll be a growing gap between them and the No. 3 team.) They’ll win at South Carolina and Arizona State and they’ll beat Alabama in Athens simply because they’re better than all of the above.”
No probably, no maybe, no I think. No, it will happen simply because they’re better. That’s according to expert Mark Bradley, who after covering sports for 20+ years has learned to assess the best team after a game or two and has also learned that the best team always wins.
I’m sure Bulldawg Nation anxiously awaits his reassessment of Georgia’s chances for the rest of the season. Tomorrow night there will be a new poll out and Bulldawg Nation can once again cry about how they didn’t get enough respect.
Despite tonight’s unexpected drubbing from a simply inferior team, one thing remains certain. Georgia under Mark Richt remains the standard bearer of the SEC. Well, at a minimum it’s the standard bearer for late hits to the QB’s head right in front of officials and various other stupid penalties. And it’s clearly the standard bearer for failing to live up to its hype.

We played horribly. Even without all the penalties we lose. We were completely out played. We weren’t prepared and both Bama’s O and D lines took it to ours. We put no pressure on the QB - he had all day to find a receiver. If we have ANYchance of winning our remaining games (which would be a large miracle) we’d better take this next week (OFF) and prepare for a Tennessee team that is probably about as good as we are right now.

as a GT alum and an avid alabama fan (i grew up there), i was most pleased with the result tonight ;).
what i couldn’t get over was how alabama basically took their clemson game plan and replicated it so easily against what was supposed to be the #3 team (and preseason #1) in the nation (any comments on that Mark Bradley?). win the game at the line…have JPW throw safe, short posts and outs to gain good yardage and then give it to ingram, coffee, upchurch, and grant for first downs. when you get a chance, go long for the home run (julio’s TD catch). did CMR not review that game tape? methinks this shows too heavy a reliance on gimmicks (the black out) and not on preparation.

I’ll admit the blackout thing, in hindsight, seems like what we used to call false chatter. Last year’s Auburn game was a special moment (against a lesser team than Alabama of 2008), and I’m of the opinion some Bulldogs believed the Tide was going to, pardon the pun, roll over. Instead Bama scored on its first drive and went on scoring, and Georgia was sort of sitting there thinking, “Why exactly are we wearing these jerseys?”
Heading home now, gasoline willing.

COMMENTS - on present and the future
I saw a team that at the least didn’t completely roll over and die - however they looked like garbage in the first half.
A friend of mine said it best - over the last 6 years, the Dawgs have won, but they won DESPITE of their offensive line and never because of it, and the trend continues. Alabama won with mountain movers int he trenches. The good news, lots of talent up front, and more coming in young. The bad news, it took 4 years to get to that level, and we need one more to get over the hump. The worse news….
Based on what I can see, the NFL is redoing the rookie cap, and that could drastically affect guys like Moreno and Stafford. If its redone, expect one or both of them to leave this year. So we’ll have a much better line next year on both sides, but we lose the skill positions of Massaquoi, and possibly Stafford and Moreno. Gray, King, and Green is not nearly as intimidating (BUT not bad either)
So, where do we stand from here? The SEC east truly doesn’t look like the beast it always has this year, and no one from the West save Alabama looks dominating. LSU’s defense is doooown and Auburn’s offense is abyssmal. It’s a winnable schedule, and we have 2 weeks to rest, get healthy, and hopefully the coaching staff does two things.
1) MAKE IT KNOWN that champions don’t let someone coming in to your house and get whalloped like that - injuries and long road trips be dammed.
2) Get them angry AND more disciplined. The penalties are horrific - and its not just the number, but the type. Its not a 5 yearder when you were on 3rd and 16 that just makes it longer, its a 10-15 yard personal foul or interference that keeps a drive alive (or kills your own) If that doesn’t stop, the season’s over.
So, how do things look? Texas, Oklahoma, and Missou all play one another. UGA should drop like a rock to #7 or 8, maybe 9. So play every week, and if you string together a good stretch, AND make it to the SEC championship in a division that is up for grabs, things can turn out OK. THE ABSOLUTE BEST THING - Bama wins out and we play em in Atlanta and pull out a win (which remains to be seen if that’s possible).
UGA controlls its own destiny - so lets see how it plays out much like last year. It’s tough to face what UGA has the first 4 weeks of the season. You lose your backside tackle and your best DE within 8 minutes of the season beginning. Your best FB ever (blocking esp) out until tonight. I thnk they’ll be allright, but its up to the coaching staff to get focused. For the guy I saw post earlier about letting the hounds loose, blitzing, and letting the guys in the D backfield play cover 2 or man to man - we don’t have the kind of guys to do that. jones, Byrd, Prince, and Allen are good - Allen is a pro. BUT - they’re not good enough to go man to man all night long. Sorry.
Have a good one - and Go Dawgs!!

I too was most offended by Coach Richt’s profanity during his halftime comments. Christians are called upon to live differently and to act differently than the world of unbelievers. We do not need to speak profanity to win over a cursing unbeliever anymore than I need to drink alcohol to win over an alcoholic. The words of Scripture have all the potency and power we need to reach the heart of the lost. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. Glory.

Oh my lord !!! Hello People,, this was ONE game,,,,we play an entire season. Bama played great,,, kicked our butts and deserve the win. But there are lots of games left to play. If we can suck it up,, win out,, beat Bama in ATL, we’re right back in the NC fight. I don’t think anyone really expected UGA to go undefeated with our schedule. If we had the same schedule that Bama has to finish the season, we’d win in a cake walk. Again,, one game does not make a season,,,, let’s talk at the end of the year, and see where Saban’s boys end up and where the Doggies are,, that is what really counts.

He is a good man, but a competitive one. something you losers wouldn’t understand. And to you Mitch, spare me the sermon. This is about football you moron. you holier than thou people make me sick.
Point#2: When is CMR going to wake up and realize that Willie Martinez is Kevin Ramsey with better players. He NEVER makes adjustments, either in game or at halftime. He was outmatched by Cutcliffe the last 2 yrs, alabama this year. It’s pathetic. We’ll never win a NC until he’s deported or something’s done with him.

Tonight while a Birmingham TV guy was broadcasting a live postgame deal some classless Georgia fan throws beer on his head. Georgia has some of the worst fans in college football.
This whole Blackout deal was an overhyped party. Your football team (see mohawk Moreno) spent a qtr’s worth of energy before the game even kicked off. His Heisman chances are dead after a 36 yard effort.

I’ll also add while our performance was humiliating as a whole. At least we didn’t quit. That says something about the character of the team, and yes Mitch and others sometimes it takes using a few words ofgasp profanity to get your point across at halftime about the importance of playing 60 min no matter the score. Ala. kicked our a** tonight. hopefully we’ll see the in Dec.

Mark Richt is a much over rated coach just as Vince Dooley was.I can remember Dooleys offences struggling to win the boring non conference games over the likes of Temple etc. waiting for Erk Russells defences to save the day by scoring the points and then giving the credit to his enemic offences. As great as Hershell Walker was
Dooleys game plan was Hershell left, Hershell right, Hershell up the middle and a rinkey pass play once in a while.
the style of play at Ga. just always looks the same regardless of the coaches.

UGA wasn’t ready to play. They got dominated up front. They’re probaly going to lose one or two more games. No national championship this may be if Moreno and stafford stay one more year. They might have a chance. Its going to be a big challenge for UGA to beat GT this year (and yes I’m a GT fan). UGA still has a chance to reach there goal. All they have to do is beat Tenn and Fla. Its been a long time since they defeated both in the same year. UGA will be back at the top. Alabama will not be at the top of the SEC because they are going to lose at least two more games.

First off, I love the Dawgs. That said, now time for tough love! I would not vote UGA in the Top 10. They would have to win three consecutives times before I would grant them a #10 spot. I have never been more ashamed of a non-performance! They stink, stank and stunk. Allowing an untalented bum team like Bama to build a 31-0 lead is completely unacceptable. The Dawgs could not have defeated USC (the California one) with this type of ball-less S++T! Forget the final cosmetic score. This was an old fashion A++kicking. IN SPADES! Not worthy of a ranked team. An embarrassment to an UNRANKED one! Is Bama that good? Hell no! Is Georgia that bad? Possibly. Only time will tell. That said, GO DAWGS! Torch black jerseys!

There are no excuses. Just didnt win tonight, but the overrated comments are not vaildated.
Here’s why. This is NOT the team that was voted #1. UGA lost #1 offensive lineman, a HUGE LOSS. A HUGE loss on the Defensive Line. A HUGE loss for the past few weeks of maybe the best pass rusher.
Injuries have plagued the team, a few ones are able to be overcome, but to expect true freshmen to just pick up without growing pains is asking too much.
UGA will win its fair share, and hopefully win the rematch in December with BAMA. BAMA won, good for them.
Go dawgs.

Saban knew UGA had an inexperenced O line and took advantage of that fact. They shut down the running game and had Stafford on the run the entire first half. UGA can still win the east as UF and UT did not look like world beaters either. Bama is definately the strongest team in the west, and barring a slip up against LSU, Bama should go to Atlanta. I have OU at number 1, no reason to penalize them for winning big, and Bama #2. Vandy is alone atop the SEC east, to quote Munson, “My God almighty!”

“Blackout backfired”, what a dumb a* statement. We won two games last year while wearing the black jerseys, those wins were not because of the jerseys. We lost to Alabama while wearing the black jerseys, the loss was not because of the black jerseys. Alabama played a better game. We made about 6 games worth of mistakes in one half. I said to myself at the beginning of the season, we have true freshmen, true sophomores, and redshirt freshmen everywhere at the most important positions in football and we are ranked top 5 in the country. I always remembered, no matter what we do this season, that VERY young team will only get better.

clueless mark richt is this team problem. here’s 5 reasons y i say this.
1) he energize alabama with his black out thing.
2) he has the worse play calling book in college to have so much talent.
3) moreno didn’t get 25 to 30 carries and they ran him up the middle into bama’s strength.
4) richt havn’t learn that moreno is a playmaker who know how to run east and west like herschel walker. vince dooly gets it richt don’t.
5) richt is too superstitious and should spend more time preaching mistake free football and stop trying to use psychology against his opponents.
this however was a good lost because it was early in the season and against an opponent in the other division. if clueless richt ever learn how to manage a football game, we will win out and win the sec. moreno have to get 25 to 30 carries the rest of the way know matter what!!

The first half was all Nick Saban…awesome job of flanking Richt and the entire defense. It will serve UGA well in the future, it won’t happen again in Atlanta. Second half Georgia 30, Bama 10. With out Knowshawn (injured) no one is talking about this. He was nailed and hurt bad in the first half and was out of the picture. Chandler went out w/a shoulder injury. So in some key positions we played 2nd & 3rd string in the second half and scored 30 points. Penalties and dropped passes killed UGA. It was a great SEC win for Bama. It will be a good rematch in December.
I hope we black out the dome.

Everyone take a deep breath and stop overeacting. The season is not over by any stretch. It was one loss to a VERY good football team. Hey I am one to admit that we had it handed to us last night in a big way but I expected us to lose a game this year with our schedule and we have. That being said I watched the FL Ole Miss game yesterday and to be honest FL looked pretty bad to (they got beat by an UNRANKED team at home). Yes we lost at home as well but it was to a team that was the #8 ranked team in the country (and looking at that team we played last night that #8 ranking was way too low). Also don’t forget that we lost our All SEC middle linebacker after the first series last night which opened up the middle a little more for their offense. Not saying if Ellerbe doesn’t get hurt we win but it sure did not help. I also wathed the Auburn Tenn game and NEITHER of them look like world beaters either. What I am saying is that we need to take the coming up off week to address some areas that need addressing (stupid undisciplined penalties for one) and get our heads back to where they should be. This WAS a reality check in the fact that we can’t just show up and expect to win everyweek. I do believe we have a team that can win out (I am concerned about LSU but they gave up 24 to Miss St at home last night) and hopefully play Alabama (if they beat LSU) again in Atlanta in December. Even though last night was not pretty I believe it was a valuable lesson learned. Hopefully, we come away from this in a foul mood and with a chip on our shoulders and get back to playing ball. Also, as fans we should stop complaining about the lack of respect the talking heads heads have been giving us (I fell into that trap as well) and realize that we need to earn it on the field (which I believe we will). Also, Mark Richt is a very good man and a great coach and we are lucky and blessed to have him and anyone who says otherwise is just plain wrong. I do hope he addresses some of the offensive play calling with CMB(what was with that quarterback keeper as well as the screen pass on 3rd and 10 down as far as we were). Now to address all of the OTHER posters on this blog (except for the Alabama fans because your team has given you the right to come on here and talk smak). Until YOU beat us (Techies in particular) please just shut up and stop living through OTHER schools victories. Keep the faith DAWG nation and GO DAWGS.

The only good dogs are dead dogs.
“The best coach in the land”? I’m glad to hear you say that, since you obviously don’t know what you are talking about. Bama beat Clemson, who was beaten by a mediocre Maryland team, and they beat a Georgia team with weak offensive and defensive lines.
We still don’t know how good Bama is, but we are now convinced Saban is the “best coach in the land”?

I’m a LONG time Dawg fan and UGA graduate, but the fears I’ve had since the pre-season, and even since last year, were realized and I’ve had to objectively analyze our team without the emotions and unconditional bias of a Dawg fan.
Here is what I believe:
1) We all love CMR and I believe he’ll most always be able to take us to the top 2-3 spots in the SEC and maybe the top 10 spots in the nation. But he won’t be able to take us to the #1 spot in the nation. I know I’m the only one who believes this. I believe his mild mannered personality comes across as a weakness. To his players, subconsciously it communicates that it doesn’t matter enough to HAVE TO HAVE a win at all costs. You would never see this attitude in Saban or bad-boy Spurrier. They know how to win and communicate that they EXPECT to win and the team had BETTER DAMN-WELL win. This atmosphere is lacking for us.
2) The overall development of a strategy to win against the big boys seems to be below par. Sure, we can always win against the little guys and look good doing it, but against the big boys, our coaches seem to get out-coached too often.
3) The penalities are an embarassment. We’ve managed to get by in spite of them when we can man-handle our opponents, but sooner or later they’ll keep us from winning the important big game. CMR doesn’t seem to ever do anything about this. Position coaches need to be held accountable for their players commiting penalities. Dismiss them if they can’t get it straightened out because it is hugely hurting the overall team performance.
4) We need an offensive line. Coach Searles has done well with what he has to work with, but we need the talent here. Enough said.
5) We need a defensive line who can pass rush, a secondary…….oh heck, I’ll quit now on this one.
6) A QB who can find receivers and hit them with accurate passes on long pass plays. Much hype was made earlier about Matthew being considered for the Heisman. He can throw the ball hard, but lacks the accuracy on long balls. I look away from the TV when he throws long as it rarely is going to be able to be caught.
7) Players on BIG BOY teams seem to be poised, confident, and organzed and know where they should be on every play. Often, our players get rattled, look puzzled and disorganized. Last night was a good example. Again, I contribute this mostly to the preparation of the coaching.
We get to pull it together or we could end up with 3-5 losses before the season is over.

THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING !! THE SKY IS FALLING !! Nope, I saw a team get manhandled in the first half, I saw a team play a perfect half of football, I saw a team NOT QUIT when it would have been real easy to do.
This ain’t over, it’s a long way to Atlanta in December. If UGA learns fron this and wins out in conference they will be there waiting on whoever comes out of the west, and it may not be Alabama!

The coffee from my Bama mug tastes particularly good this morning…
GOOD NEWS I am done posting on this board because the only two UGA games I cared about are over.
BAD NEWS My posts before about UGA getting tripped up by penalties were CORRECT! First drive of the game, we fumbled in the red zone and UGA could have stopped the momentum right there. Sadly their lack of discipline showed through with a roughing the passer call. It continued to show throughout the game.
Props to the UGA fans that stayed until the last second. That had to be tough and you guys showed more staying power than your team!
This is what happens when you marginalize a good opponent and play like you believe your own hype. Try not to do it again.

Dawgs were out coached by a better coach on this night. Richt can't just say, I don't have anything to do during the game anymore. Evidently during game week preparation also! He gets paid those millions for a reason. It's called hard work! Millions of dollars is still a lot of money "people" for a coach who thinks his job now is "cheerleader". Fla Dawg,
Blown Out in the second half? Yes, you scored more…. but blown out? Come on dude.
1) Georgia rallied 2) They scored on a put return that should have been called back for a block in the back. Go watch the replay it was there (so to think, there were more penaltied that could have been called) 3) While ya’ll were scroing meaningless point, Terrance Cody was already celebrating on the sidelines….. so scoring against second teamers is not blwoing out. 4) UGA played better and won the 2nd half points wise…. but a blow out, NO.
5) Take the loss and stop the spin…. UGA was whipped
And I’m not even a Bama fan!

I knew Georgia would kill themselves with penalties - it’s a UGA tradition. Only one person to blame: Coach Richt. It shows poor leadership skills by the coaching staff to have this problem year after year, but they don’t call the Dawgs THUGA for no reason. When I am just a casual sports fan and can see from the S Carolina game that the Dawgs are way overrated, why can’t the AJC see it? I guess being homers sells papers.

I love my Dawgs and am terribly upset by the loss to Alabama. But Bama played to win — and they looked great. UGA gave them everything they needed to “bury” us. We owe this loss to poor execution and overall sloppiness — and Alabama was just good enough to capitalize on it. They deserved to win that game. Move on, and let’s focus on overcoming our weaknesses.

Richt is out of gimmicks and was outcoached through and through. Maybe he is not the right man to lead this program. Quite frankly I’m tired of arrests, rap dances, and unsportsman like conduct. He needs to get control of this team (see penalties) and start actually living up to expectations. If not go back to Thugami or the Criminoles.

Good second half dog fans. Most teams we played laid down in the second half but UGA kept fighting and never gave up, that’s something you can build on.
As an SI writer wrote today, “Before we throw the final shovelfuls of dirt on the title aspirations of USC, Georgia and Florida, let’s remember one thing: LSU lost twice and still won the 2007 national title. Those hopes can be resurrected faster than Alabama’s Cody can break a futon.”

Folks, stay calm, Georgia’s loss is not as bad as Florida or USC and Its not the end of the season.however, this loss is on the shoulder of The DC Martinez, again it showed how inconsistent he is. and plain dummass. ALABAMA’S QB looked like Tom Brady. our defense again was so predictable and Alabama kept doing the same thing over and over without any adjustment. Alabama was running the ball mostly on 1st and 2nd down get 2 to 5 yards then a short completion, nothing fancy. and we never challenged those short completion. it just disgusted me. its like stealing my money. I can’t understand why our defense was playing the deep route all the way, and it was easily tricked. Martinez as the defensive backs coach was below average, as DC is well below average, I never liked his zone defense schemes and his addiction to it. As an Alabama fan I loved the game last night. I felt we could control both lines of scrimmage but I never in my wildest dreams imagined the score to be 31-0 in the first half. I felt the “Blackout” was a compliment to our team and it showed Mark Richt’s concern for the game. I don’t know who said it, but his commnet was “It’s not the bow and arrow, it’s the indian”. It’s not the color of the jersey but what’s inside that wins games.

The first mistake of this game was deferring to the 2nd half. Alabama has never trailed in a game this year. Why wouldn’t you want to take the ball and try and drive down and get some points and put THEM in a hole to start the game?? This could have changed their mindset completely! Given the fact they have never been beind this season. Instead we were the ones in a hole right off the bat. Why does Richt always defer to the 2nd half???????? Stupid.
Penalties, penalties, penalties. You knew it was going to cost us sooner or later. Alabama fumbles on that opening drive, but guess what? Roughing the passer.
When the quarterback releases the ball and you take 2,3, or 4 steps, LET UP!!!! Don’t go ahead and deliver a blow to the head anyway!!!!!!!! Richt needs put a freakng stop to this.
Bad night all around, it just kept snowballing. I give Alabama all the credit, they were the team that was prepared, not us.

Sorry to see the Dawgs lose but seen this coming from the lack of initiative of the players in the S.C. game. We are quick to blame the coach when things go wrong but the coach is not out on the field playing, it’s the players and they just fell apart. Stupid penalties and lousy performance is the athletes fault not the coach. He can only instruct them on what to do, they are the ones that must perform. Maybe they will improve in the future but it’s all up to them. The Dawgs got the talent they just need to use it next time.

That game was closer than it coulda/shouda been. Two plays turned the Tide, the fumble recovery by Ga that was called back by a penalty and the interception that bounced out of the receivers hands into the Bama linebacker. Take those 14 points away and the results would have been different. Both teams played aggressively but Bama made no mistakes like Ga. Let’s hope for a rematch in The Dome.

I have said it for years, Mark Richt will never win a national championship as head coach. He will win 10 games a year.He is a good coach, not a great coach. He recruits for speed, not size, strength. Nick Saban will win a national championship at Alabama. As much as an a hole Saban is, he is a FAR better coach than Mark Richt. Mark Richt is satisfied with wins against TERRIBLE teams.Saban was jumping all over his team for letting UGA come back and make it a game in the second half.THAT ATTITUDE is instilled in his team. FIGHT HARD ALL GAME is what he demands! He recruits MEN not light in the pants boys like UGA. Nick Saban,Les Miles, Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer are all MUCH better coaches than Mark Richt will ever be. SC nearly beat us again with a FAR less talented team. Mark Richt is a nice guy. I would rather have an a -hole coach who can win a national championship than a choir boy who is too nice to run up the score against inferior talent. I prefer smashmouth football over the finesse style of football Mark Richt’s teams have.UGA needs to stop scheduling so many cupcake games in the first of the season. They are full of themselves for barely beating inferior teams and look what happens…got theis asses beat

“Alabama scored the first five times it had the ball to build a 31-0 halftime lead, withstood 17 consecutive points by Georgia at the start of the second half, then finished off the Bulldogs by a deceivingly close score of 41-30. More tellingly, Alabama led 41-17 with four minutes to play.”
Alabama scored almost at will and dominated Dogs completely. You’re not going to win the national championship, the SEC championship, the SEC East or the Georgia AAAAA title when you play like this. Georgia was not ready, they got outplayed and outclassed in the first half, and that was it.
Georgia clearly got seduced by its press and its gimmicks. Time to start playing and coaching.

Mark Bradley, your column is perfect. We were out coached. We were depending on a gimmick t motivate the players instead of just preparing them for the game. CMR did a terrible job preparing his team. Willie Martinez did terrible job as D-Coodinator. That soft zone he runs is terrible. He did not make adjustments until the half when we were 31 points down. Mike Bobo should not be O-Coordinator, he cannot call plays. He call plays the way Jim Donnan did when he was Bobo’s coach. If we want Jim Donnan’s offense we should have kept him as head coach. Mike Bobo has to be demoted. He cost us the game last year against South Carolina. CMR took over play calling to late in that game. I hate those damn wide receiver screens. Throw the ball down field more often.
Now that all the hype is gone about why we falling in the polls and have not lost. Now that all the hype is gone about the Heisman for Moreno and Stafford. Now that all the gimmick bull crap is gone. Lets play some UGA football. All you GT punks that wanna talk crap, we will see you in November. Alabama you won round 1. But we will see you again in December in the DOME. It Ain’t Over Till The Fat Lady Sings. The season is a marathon not a sprint.

Dear Mark Bradley, Last week you wrote about the glorious defeat of Arizona State as being a “statement.” I thought then it was the funniest piece of comedic writing I have seen in a long time. Last night after 30 mins of play on the field, the comedy turned into a tragedy for the over-rated, over-zealous and over-arrogant dawgs. It was a sweet justice for those of us who enjoy disciplined and controlled football teams. UGA is a team of boyz who carry on like a street gang and then are shocked when they get caught. Always trying to make the cheap shot, all of them running into the endzone to draw a flag to get themselves rallied up. Haven’t you seen enough cop TV shows to see that the criminal mind is one that can’t believe they are wrong and its the cop’s (referee’s) that are picking on them. Get over it DAWGnation. Your team will NEVER have a national championship because you let your players behave like thugs. Last night was the sweetest justice. A clean, organized and decent team came into the den of thugs and broke out an old-fashioned can of correction. All is right with the world, the bulldogs have been humbled into submission once again and their arrogant fans are left “wanting” for excuses where there are none.
Mark, what kind of “statement” was this game?

Let’s face, we just ain’t that good. All the hype, the preseason No. 1, is not justified. I hate to say this, but we are a team of gimmicks. We have the talent and the playmakers, but we cannot get the job done and ultimately, the responsibility for that lies with the coaching. This team was not ready last night. I guessed they figured that by showing up and wearing black, they would win. Nice try. CMR, some advice, go less on the gimmicks and more on the fundamentals.

All I heard this week was how much better Georgia was with their “skilled” players. What people don’t seem to realize is that the game is played in the trenches. If you can’t control the line of scrimmage, your skilled players can’t do their job, no matter how good they are!
With all the focus and praise going to Georgia this week, I had a feeling the Dawg Nation was in for a rude awakening. Calling for the blackout turned out to be more of a distraction than an inspiration.

No offense to the true UGA fans but these blogs are so predictable year after year after games in which UGA gets blown out:
1.) Richt sucks/the team sucks
2.) Mark Bradley and the AJC sucks (might be onto something here)
3.) The officials suck
4.) Fire a coordinator
I want all of the true UGA fans and UGA haters to notice the number of UGA tags and window vinyl that will disappear in your neighborhood, along your normal commute and in your work parking lot.
Every year the fair weather fans jump on the bandwagon the first part of the year due to pre-season ratings then BAM! overnight a single Saturday dawg whippin sends them into hiding.

Well, you cannot spot a team 31 points and expect to make a comeback (Reminds me of the sugar bowl against WVU a few years back where we did the same thing). We don’t have a problem finishing, our problem lies in beginning, we always seem to get off to a slow start, and rely on the defense to cover the team until the offense gets it together. Championship teams CANNOT do this!! We must come together as a TEAM!! offense and defense must become one. This loss is on the coaches, we were not ready to play, much like the UT game last year, which sparked our win streak that ended last night. My only hope is that this loss will do the same, and spark us into a rematch with BAMA on Dec. 6th.
sidenote: Willie, you need training on making defensive adjustments during the game, there is no rule that says you must stick with gameplan till halftime, then change…. that is what costs us the game, your inability to make defensive adjustments!! absolutely inexcusable
sidenote: Why do we have one guy signaling in plays and other teams have three?? Is it possible ole ST. Nick was Belichicking our offensive calls??

Any Dawg fans clinging to the 2nd half comeback need to get a grip. Now that the games have been shortened by the new rules, Alabama knew Georgia needed 5 scores in the second half to win and normally a team is only going to get about 5 possessions in a half. So Georgia knew Alabama would run the clock and they committed more guys to stop the run. Alabama tried to run it anyway because the objective is to win the game, not to put the game at risk by trying to run up the score.
Georgia got a cheap TD on the punt return despite Alabama punting the guy to the sideline because a blatant block in the back that opened up the sideline wasn’t called. And Georgia made some good plays in the passing game once they started employing max protection to keep Alabama’s defensive line off Stafford.
Georgia didn’t quit, which is to their credit. But the idea that the first half was some kind of aberration doesn’t wash. Does anybody who watched that game last night doubt that if the two teams played again next Saturday that Alabama would once again dominate both lines of scrimmage?
Before Dawg Nation starts projecting themselves into the SEC championship game they better realize that if Georgia doesn’t develop some toughness, LSU and Auburn are likely to whip them physically just like Alabama did.

I Have always been a Dog fan and I always will be. I hate it when they lose just like any other fan. However, I am also a fan of football in general and there is no shame in losing to a better team. That’s what happened in Athens Saturday night. Regardless of all the pregame hype about the two teams Alabama was simply better than Georgia. They were better prepared and better coached and had a better game plan. I like Mark Richt and hope he stays at Georgia until he decides to retire but you can’t overlook the fact that at least once or twice a year, he will fail to have his team prepared to play. It happened last year with an inferior Tennessee team and it happened with Alabama who is, at the very least, just as talented as Georgia. When you are playing a good opponent you simply can’t afford stupid penalties at crucial times and dropped passses that should have been caught. Rediculous numbers of personal fouls are a sign of poor discipline and poor discipline is a sign of poor coaching. That is the one flaw I find with this coaching staff both on and off the field. This is the resemblence to FSU that we can do without. I know these guys are young men and are going to make mistakes but the coaching staff is responsible for coming up with a way to develop discipline and this staff has failed to do it. Alabama is not one of the least penalized teams in the nation by chance. Saban DEMANDS the proper discipline from his team and they respond. Georgia’s players would do the same if Richt and his staff refused to tolerate it. Until that happens you can expect this kind of performance a couple of times every year.

I wonder if being on the field in warmups 1:20 before the game in that enviornment has a difference in the game when the Bama team was as a group in warmups no more than 40 minutes? I know we came back but. Talk about focus on the game. They were focused like no one was in the stadium except them when they got the ball.

Seeing all these Ga Tech fans on these boards trying to bash UGA is hilarious.
Your team lost to an unranked opponent and ours to a top 10 team;
You haven’t beaten us since before Dubya weaseled into the White House.
The Falcons are doing better than you at selling their home game tickets.
Your program has to use pop-up ads on the ajc.com to convince people your games are worth attending.
We talk smack on your boards when we beat you; you talk smack on our boards to provide us with comedic relief in a down week.
About the game: Marks’ right; the kids were more concerned with what they were gonna wear than who they were gonna play. They thought the fans’ wearing black and their wearing black was enough; I have half-a-hunch that our boys were up late watching the USC game, too, instead of getting the necessary ZZZZs and study time, too. Just a hunch.
I have a couple of ‘Bama fans as friends, and they both said ‘I hope somebody else gets to Atlanta.’ They don’t wanna face us again.
There are parallels to 2003 when LSU out-muscled UGA on their way to a BCS title game; Nick Saban v. Mark Richt. Might v. skill. It didn’t work out for UGA in either meeting, but that’s not to say it can’t work this go-round.
The 2nd half showed us what our guys can do when they settle the hell down and play football; so now we got the wake-up call we needed. Run the tables (stomping the Bugs on the way out, of course) and play for the SEC title.
Win it, and you’ll play the Big 12 champ for the trophy. Simple as that.

What was witnessed last night, was a clean (LAST in penalties), well coached, well disciplined, very good team come into a “den of thugs”, and methodically show the world, how you can totally WHIP a bunch of thugs…no cheap shots, no personal foul calls, just pure, clean, competent football. The ALA COACHES were in charge! Not the thugs…there was no wearing of “all Crimnson”…there was no “Hey—-everybody run into the end zone when we score!!!”….The thugs of Athens were totally and methodically whipped, by a more DISCIPLINED and BETTER COACHED team. Way to go BAMA!!

SERIOUSLY… 29 years… a football powerhouse you are not!!! Just another insignificant team who’s best hope for attention is the chance to trip up a real contender every few years.
AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA… back to reality UGA. I can’t wait till next year when you all tell us again how you’re going to win it all, only to watch you get stomped by a real team yet again.

Below is a statement from Mark earlier this year. What do you say now?
I also posted a quote from a dawg fan. I knew this day would come and I wanted people to see these stupid comments from people who simply are FANS. That includes you Mark. You are nothing more than a bulldog FAN. You do not know what you are talking about most the time. This proves it.
Talk is cheap.
Mark Bradley says: Georgia won’t fail anytime soon. It will be 5-0 come the Oct. 5 bye, 5-0 and ranked no worse than No. 2 in the land. (And if the Bulldogs are still No. 2, there’ll be a growing gap between them and the No. 3 team.) They’ll win at South Carolina and Arizona State and they’ll beat Alabama in Athens simply because they’re better than all of the above.
By Lowcountry_dawg September 7, 2008 7:10 PM | Link to this Mark my words here. Georgia is unbelievably talented and deep. Georgia will win every game they play this year. Knowshon Moreno will win the Heisman.
Uh, noshon had what..50something yards? LMFAO!!! Heisman?? LMFAO!!
Maybe you guys will get over yourselves now. And tell Mark Richt to stop cursing on Natl tv. It’s embarrassing and God doesn’t like that.

Hey Mark, Why don’t you explain to the Georgia fans why they NEVER hear Marky Mark’s name in conjunction with NFL jobs?? Think it might have to do with Marky’s ACT not really working very well in an environment of disparate individuals?? Maybe the NFL has just wised up to not hiring guys who build up winning percentages by playing 8 out of every 12 games with a clear talent edge. look at Georgia’s schedule, EVEN this year, and honestly pick out the games where there is a degree of parity. I’d say Alabama, Florida and LSU. I’ll let you pick another one. Basically he starts out 8-0. Splits the 4 tough games, and he’s 10-2—Who could complain about that?? But in the NFL you don’t get the directional schools and the 3 or 4 SEC patsies every year so those wins come in a very difficult manner.
BUT don’t worry UGA, after the likes of Spurrier, Petrino, Saban and Carroll—I believe the NFL finally got it!!! When you don’t have a big time recruiting advantage by dominating a state, when you don’t have at least 7 wins a year based on competitive advantage—-Then it comes down to coaching MEN, not BOYS and in a situation of parity where you must be obviously better than guy you are going against.
Urban, Marky, Les and Nick want NO PART pf parity—trust me.

By Adam Smith, your post is pointless. Talent advantage wins at every level of football. Who cares if the NFL has no interest in CMR. He is UGA’s coach and despite the loss, we still love him. So what is your point in this discussion man help me to understand it. We lost to Bama because we were out coached. But, it ain’t over yet we lost 2 games last year and ended up number 2 in the final polls. There is still a lot of football to play. CMR must take control of the play calling again. Bobo just does not get the job done against better competition. That is why our offense has looked so lethargic this season. Martinez defense is too soft. We have very good athletes at DB but he runs a soft zone. If we do not get overwhelming pressure on the QB the QB picks us apart. Very seldom do you see good coverage out of our DBs. That is all coaching. Also, Stafford looked terrible with his fundamentals last night. Yes, he was being pressured, but he had terrible pocket presence and he seldom set his feet when he threw the ball. I have noticed that in other games but when you win you overlook certain things but, in a lost they slap you in the face. That’s because of coaching also. Our fundamentals were horrible. CMR, you are better than that. If your assistants can’t get it done do what needs to be done.

Alabama great win!, football is back in Alabama!, Georgia hold your heads high your are still a good football team (better then average) and your are still in the hunt for the BCS if you win the SEC East, SEC Championship game(you may get a chance at redemption and play Alabama again). Georgia will have to run up the score in a few of those games as well.
What I do not like seeing in big games (any team) is Referees influencing the game momentum (tempo) and points with questionable calls (personal fouls). Referees goals should be to manage the game in a safe manner without influencing the game momentum or points for either team. Alabama did not need their help and people would have enjoy watching the game more by letting the teams play each other without their help.
Again Alabama yours’ team looks good this year and will go far.

I see that Stafford is “dinged up”, i.e. some sort of head injury short of a concussion. Let me guess, from getting smashed into the ground on that inexplicable QB keeper on 2nd and nine? You take a pro style QB who is slow afoot and have him run a sweep against a fast and physical SEC defense? That one goes in the pantheon of stupid play calling.

Why don’t you UGA supporters cut the whining and excuses. You sound like the Clemson folks after they got their beating. Bottom line and it is painful - you were out classed, out manned, out played and out coached. If you want some more then win the SEC East and meet us at the Dome for your second helping of whoop a@@. Once you beat a Dawg then you are his master. Wag your tail and be happy and fetch that stick would you.

If any of you think Florida or Georgia are done…you are very wrong. Florida gave away their game and Georgia did the same in the first half with all the roughing stuff. Both are very talented teams, and I think the losses this weekend will just make both teams better in the long run. I know the Florida players now sense what it takes to win games in the SEC this year. You can’t take off a single moment in SEC games or the other team will bite you in the butt. Let’s see if the Gators and the Dawgs can respond to that bite with some attitude of champions. I think they will, and I think the game in Jax is still going to be big on the national front. The winner still might go to the NC game.

It might have been easier to watch baby seals get clubbed than it was to watch the Dawgs that first half. Awful, just awful. I wanted to turn it off, but it had the same fascination of a car wreck. You just had to look. You’re just not going to win many games in the SEC if you’re only playing the 2nd half. And old refrain for the Dawgs. Mark, when are you ever going to get fired up? It seems like every weakness came home to roost last night. Injuries, penalties, falling asleep at the wheel (memories of the ‘06 Sugar Bowl), even dropped passes for old time’s sake.
I don’t understand why everyone, announcers, journalists, etc. keeps talking about how great UA’s running game was. They averaged 2.9 ypc, and JPW got a first down on EVERY pass but one in the first half. It certainly wasn’t the running game that put them up by 31.
To all the retarded haters (who seem to have the first post in every blog, amusing how you wait by your basement computer, mouse in one hand, hand lotion in the other), Moreno didn’t have great stats, simply because you can’t run the ball when you get down by that many points. This should be obvious to anyone who knows dck about football, but such is life.
UGA still controls their own destiny, win out, and they likely face a rematch in the dome, and hopefully play more like they did in the 2nd half. So you’ll still have to base your life on sweating over the games for a few more weeks, most likely. Might want to cancel that WoW convention or tractor pull (whichever applies), just to be safe.
Now do everyone a favor, and collectively die in a grease fire.

We didn’t give away the game: we were out-played and out-coached. Defense sets the tone of the game and our defense is not aggressive enough. We need to fire Martinez and hire Kirby Smart as our DC: Richt had him on his staff and blew letting him leave. Now he is coaching again with Saban as his DC. Richt will not win a National Championship with Martinez as the DC.

Too many penalties early, Bama got on a roll, and it was over. It reminded me of the huge lead West Virginia got in the Sugar Bowl. Why fire CMR ? He has provided a team every season in the 10-2 category, goes to nice bowls, and ends up in the top 10. What more could you want ? UGA fans, however, say “thats not enough”. And the media, because they’re paid to do it, takes any game with two top 10 teams and turns it into “game of the century” importance. Don’t fall for the KOOLAID. Accept what you’ve got. Fans from other teams will be much more appreciative

Hey Dawg fans, we saw this coming during the SC game. Give Bama credit. Their team is built around solid offensive and defensive lines. We lost two good lineman early in the year but still, we should have had an answer. Stafford, Moreno, and Green aren’t squat without the hosses up front, and up front is where you succeed or fail, and Georgia will continue to fall short in the big games until the main focus of recruiting is lineman. They just got finished teaching us the lesson, let’s learn it. Sure we’ve had great lines in the past, but in the present we are being outmanned, and to an extent out coached. The penalties are a consequence of us getting beat one on one way too often.

We got beat by a better team last night. Not since Auburn led us 31-0 at the half in 1999 can I recall being beat so bad on both sides of the line of scrimmage. “Jessica” Parker Wilson had too much time to pass and he has reliable receivers.
As for Bradley-let’s face it. He’s never been a strong prognasticator. He picked us to beat Auburn in 2004 and we lost, 24-6. He picked us then to win the SEC. He was wrong.
What we need to do is just not panic. Let’s work more on the fundamentals that occur between the trenches. And please to God let’s wear red in two weeks when the three-loss Vols come to town.
Many thanks to Ole Miss and Auburn for making this loss a little easier to accept. Imagine that? The West swept the East, including losses by us and UF at home.
When’s the last time UF, UT, and UGA loss in the same day?

I agree with your weight of the 2nd-half rally. But, the dawgs did show a lot of class, IMO.
As for UGA’s schedule being a bit more arduous, there’s only one good way to settle that argument, and we did just that last night.
We’ll probably see you again in December. It will be a much better game, and I only hope that we’ll be one point better than the dawgs.
UGA’s program is proud and strong, and I hope the best for them, except in the Championship Game.

I was very disappointed to see how very ugly Mark Ritch was to the ESPN girl who was asking him a question at half time. I can understand he was upset after seeing how terrible the team was playing, but he should not have cussed at her and should have had more class than he did. I lost respect for him at that moment. TIDE WASHES DOGS CLEAN. Quick! Everybody needs to email the Governor at Sonny@perduechicken.com and tell him, “you should have postponed the game, indefinitely!” It was a divine sign when Athens ran out of gas. The Dogz suffered the same fate. Headlines should read: HIGH TIDE IN ATHENS WASHES DOGZ AWAY. Blackout? The only blackouts were suffered by the Dogz during the game, when they forgot how to play! The best thing that could have happened yesterday was that (1)Dog Fans left after the first half to get home before dark since most of their trucks don’t have headlights; (2) All players for Georgia had real blackouts after the game and cannot remember how they played; (3) An announcement of a pervasive gas shortage that will prevent will prevent future games from being played in Athens until next year.
For all Dog fans everywhere, treat the game of football like the opposite of the fresh oysters rule. DON”T PLAY FOOTBALL IN ANY MONTH WITH AN “R” in it.

If the Alabama %^& kicking wasn’t as bad as USC & UF’s losses, then why is USC still in the Top 10? UGA will lose 2-3 more games, UF, @ LSU, @ Auburn or Tech.
Face it UGA fans, this wasn’t a good enough team to be #1, and they were exposed last night! Alabama DOMINATED UGA’s overrated OL & DL, and that so called Heisman Trophy Candidate Moreno, had a whopping 34 yards rushing and was never a factor.
Hey Mark Bradley, how about STOP with the BS Hype of how good the Stafford-Moreno combo are, because Stafford is the most OVERRATED QB in the nation since Ron Paulus at ND. Mereno is a gear RB, but he is not Heisman Trophy candidate.
You can try and spin this %^& kicking UGA got all you want tomorrow morning, but this team won’t win the SEC East, and won’t be playing in a BCS Bowl.
UGA finishes the season 9-3. Enjoy it Dawg fans, last night was only the start!

I have long been a critic of the inverted priorities and misplaced focus on college athletics instead of the real functions of a university which are teaching and research. I attended this game and it was my first and last. I expected behavior like that of a well attended and important Braves’ game of the past with people joyously cheering their team while showing respect for the other side. Instead, it proved to be a sociologically revealing experience into the football fanatic and I think I now understand the tone and content of these blogs more than ever. Some of these people were quite pleasant and intent on a good time. However, most throughout the campus before, during, and after the game were loutish, boorish, obnoxious, and frankly bordered on uncivilized. Many were intoxicated from their tail-gating parties of the afternoon. This prepared them for cheers and shouts laced with obscenities as their team was soundly defeated. The Alabama fans were clearly the worst and as their team built its lead and the Georgia fans began to thin their arrogance became full-throated and more obnoxious than ever.
And it is interesting to note the teams were both well over 50% black and yet the fans in the stadium were 99% white. (Many sported McCain buttons which is also revealing. And I recalled the accounts of George Bush being tossed from games for his drunken antics.) It was an experience I am glad I had and one which will never be repeated. And I am sure that any response to this will be as abusive as the fans I saw were to each other and as lacking in intelligence as well. After seeing what I saw what else would one expect?

Dawg fans not only had to watch their team get outcoached by an underpaid Nick saban. But Georgia was beaten up physically with 6-8 players taken off the field. The Pups get the week off the heal their fragile body & mind. But then you have Two weeks to let this stunning loss linger in your mind.
Many are starting to second guess mark richts ability in the Big games. He spent more time trying to cheerlead the crowd than any real coaching. Georgia is one of the most undisplined teams in the NCAA. That is directly attributed to lack of coaching.
Dawgs still have a slight chance at a BCS bowl if the national TV audience ever gets the 31-0 half score out of their minds. Unfortunately most voewers had changed channels and gone to bed when dawgs scored the late cheap TD’s.
Dawg fans were just as bad last night, one drunken UGA fan tossed beer on a Birmingham TV anchors head as he did a live report postgame. Nothing new, everyone knows Georgia has the WORST fans in the SEC.
Now get your drunken fans & battered team ready for some mo SEC football!!!

Call us the Bullduds! There will not be a rematch in the dome in December. Unless LSU and UF are having bad days, I don’t see winning either of those games! Look at the Carolina game, wasn’t it clear that the expectations we’re too great? Outstanding individuals at some positions, but as a team, there are issues. Don’t even think of looking past Vandy or Auburn. UT is going to be hungry to take a bite out of UGA. Should UK and GT be considered easy wins? Beating ASU looked great while it was happeneing, but the chances are any SEC team except the Razorbacks could beat the Sun Devils. A bowl game is a certainty, but #1 or even a BCS bowl game?!?! Geezz, let’s get real. If UF loses to LSU on Oct. 11th, we have a chance at winning the SEC L-east, but at the moment, I just don’t see it.

Having Richt to take over play calling will not solve anything. It was because of his ineptitude there that he turned the duties over to Bobo. Right is the one making two and a half million dollars a year and we should expect to get more for the maney than what we get.

Funniest site last evening: Moreno (mohawk kid) sprinting everywhere before the game started, he was JACKED up for the game. BUT, then the game started and he gains a meager 34 yards and trots off the field with dinged elbow. Can you say BYE-BYE Heisman trophy.
Georgia and Mark Richt put on a clinic this past week in how NOT to prepare for a big game. To their defense, it’s been 25 years since the program had a highly ranked team against a great program.
We will always call you the Michigan State of the South. Mark ^^^^Mr Christian^^^^ Richt showed his character last night with those constant curse words postgame.

No Class,
Now being a Dawg fan Bama beat us all around, but calling me no class that bullsh!t. I am a 5’5” woman 130 lbs that stood up to a big Bama man running his mouth at me and back him off. This man did not know me and had no right getting in my face. We where walking to our car, so that was a no class Bama fan. But he found out real fast that this red head was going to give him a a@@ kicking. And hell I’m 50 years and in damn good shape. But hats to the good fans that where there. Hats off the Bama they came to play and we did not, but I am and will always be a true Dawgs fan, unlike my friends that just starting wearing their Bama shirts again. I stay true as a fan win or lose. Good Game Bama. But don’t get in my face because I will not back down to anyone but, THE GOOD LORD AND MY MOMMA. I’m sorry but their are no class fans every where. So all Dawg fans are no class fools. Always a DAWG FAN.

Just face it, Georgia, you aren’t that good. Keep reading the newspapers. Mark Bradley, you were the one proclaiming this was Georgia’s year. I guess you are on Bama’s bandwagon now.
Don’t worry, Alabama will lose too.

I still think Georgia’s a solid football team. The boys just had an off-night. Mark Richt has brought to Georgia a mirror image of Bobby Bowden’s glory years. The Dogs have a good offense, and the defense, with strong, skinny-legged speedsters who are just as fast as your fast tailbacks, can close ‘em in, and gang-tackle ‘em. Why didn’t they do that against Bama? They came into Sanford sure they were going to win without fully extending themselves. My prediction is that they’ll be more than ready for all seven remaining opponents.

I guess this makes up for the last two times Richt and Saban squared off, when Richt outcoached Saban.
The nattering nabobs of negativity will make a big deal out of this loss, but sometimes the other guy just plays better. No big deal. I’ve seen Florida, Vandy, Auburn and LSU play this year, and am not impressed. If Richt coaches them up and the players allow this loss to motivate them and spur them on to a great season, then Georgia may get another crack at Bama in the SECC game.
I recall that this team was left for dead after losses to S.Car. and Tenn. last year. How did that season turn out? This year will be no different.

Mark, it’s really a shame to finally be voted #3 and after a decade ESPN decides to have game day in Athens and you show your behind big time with no game plan at all. You have been in Athens 8 years now and with all your (Florida State and Bobby Bowden recruiting) Saturday’s game was the most pitiful, disgusting, and unprepared game that I have ever seen between the hedges since I graduated in 1960. UGA has never been so unprepared both defensively and offensively in my whole life and as of yet I have not seen you take the blame for it and let the UGA fans and alumni believe that we will get any better this season. It seems last year after the GA - Tennessee game you stated that you never wanted to see a game like this again - My, My how one seems to forget so soon. Bradley,
Oh please. Saban outcoaches Richt? Is that all you can come up with to describe that thrashing that took place last night? Sure, it was all coaching. Forget about the physical domination on the line of scrimmage. Or Mr. Hype Stafford getting outplayed by John Parker Wilson. Or the freshmen AJ Green getting worked by their freshman wideout. The talent level on those teams was night and die, especially where it counted in the trenches.
Go sell the “coaching” excuse to somebody else. Cause this college football fan is not buyin it! Just admit your overhyped Dawgs got it handed to them. I don’t think Saban played a snap. You are pathetic.

Hey Mark,
Is anybody on that worthless editorial staff of yours going to comment on how seemingly overrated the great SEC is? Outside of Alabama, I don’t really see the dominance that you’ve talked about TIME AND TIME AGAIN. Florida loses to Ole Miss, who was beaten by Wake Forest. Tennessee plays Auburn to the wire after being beaten by hapless UCLA? LSU puts up a 10 point win over Mississippi ST and gives up 17 points in doing so.(GT crushed them)
I’m not saying the SEC is bad but somebody needs to admit they are a TAD overrated. All you numbskulls were quick to trash the ACC after one week yet none of you are man enough to admit that the ACC has come back strong since.. But I guess its absurd for me to think you would actually write an unbiased piece. Go hump Richt’s hind leg and tell him to order a panty raid before the next game to get his girls fired up.

The Dawgs were out played and out coached. That much is clear. IT is not an excuse…it is a fact.
We didn’t show any signs of adjustment when we were getting our buts handed to us. I don’t think the defense blitzed much in the first half and we blew the doors off in the second. We needed to blitz against their big, experienced O Line.
I know our team played hard against our earlier opponents. But I don’t remember playing with a sense of urgency the way we did in the second half of the bama game. Why don’t we use the no huddle more often? Heck, if our regular offense is not working…change things up. This is one criticism I’ve have of Richt and his coordinators for years. We just seem slow to adjust to what the other team is doing.
Is this stubborness? Or are the adjustments being made and we dumb fans just can’t see them? They were clear in the second half.
With that said, Richt has been a winner. I support him and the team and believe we can overcome this one game. We still got a lot of football to play.

Alabama won the game - period. For those that follow the Dawgs - you knew that the O line was going to have trouble opening holes against their front four and the D line is average without Owens. We can second guess play calling and defensive schemes all day but the bottom line is we got beat. Alabama lined up and took it to us - at home and on a national stage. I hate it - wish it didn’t happen but hopefully some good comes from it.
Keep in mind folks - these are college kids. And kids - especially college kids - will disappoint you at times. This is one of those times.

Several weeks ago I stated in this blog that Georgia would not win the big games with the present OC and DC on CMR staff. I am not sure if they are totally at fault in this loss, because I believed sometime ago that Alabama was the better team and Georgia would not withstand their physical play. If Pat Dye had mentioned this week that Georgia was not tough enough for the Tide he would have been correct. For the life of me why is CMR still moving people around on the Oline after 4 games. I still believe that despite the talent going on campus at Georgia the coaching is suspect, and the OC and DC seem unable to make adjustments if things are not going as planned. The Oline is young and was no match for the Tide Dline, but again Bobo was not able to do anything to stave off the swarm by the Tide D. neither could Willie do anything to stop the Tide O. Expect the same pressure from Tennessee and from LSU. Dawg Fans better get used to it, there will be no NC with this staff. In all honesty the ranking was too high and was based on the Sugar Bowl performance which was against a bad Hawaii team.

Hi. Only thing lacking is dirt being tossed into grave. Dawgs are done! In regard to BCS anyway. Not so much loss itself but manner of defeat. A team worth a damn does not go down 31-0 to a vastly inferior rival in front of home crowd! I love Dawgs but am realist about final 30 minutes. Bama let up. Drastically! Whether consciously or not. I was not comforted by final cosmetic score! I wish Dawgs well. However, guys pulled a Falcon (ouch) in Athens! Oh, Dawgs rated HIGHER than I believe they deserve.

The black shirts and other gimmicks don’t win Football games, Preparation, execution and adjustment will always win. Some people were of the opinion that the black shirts was the reason for the winning performances against Auburn and against Hawaii. If it was so Georgia would not have trailed for so long in the Auburn game, and any of the top 10 SEC teams would have beaten Hawaii. It was most surprising that in a difficult game like this CMR took time out talking about black shirts and the lift from the black Jerseys instead of preparing the team for the 8th ranked team. If CMR believes the shirts cause some exceptional performance he may want to ask Damien Evans to get him a set of the jerseys worn during the NC year.

Here is a post on the Tech blog from an Alabama fan about the terrible way they were treated in Athens. If true, the UGA fans should take heed of the Clemson President’s letter to their fans, to wit: “We are the hosts. The visiting team’s fans are our guests and should be welcomed and treated with respect.” My brother, a Tech grad, took his family which included 3 daughters who are UGA grads, to a Tech-UGA game in Athens. They were treated so badly, he said they would never go back.

Know this is off topic but thought I would post this; An Alabama man talks about their experience at yesterdays game:
Georgia was one of the most hostile places to take a family. The fans are a Bunch of unsupervised, disrespectful college a**holes whose Mommy and Daddy send to Athens and they should be there with them to supervise. I had people barking in my nephews ,5 week old newborn daughters face. I then witnessed a group of Georgia fans actually “dismantle” a family’s Alabama tent (I mean mom dad and younger kids) and then witnessed an all out brawl> A Georgia fan shoved a 40’s ish women telling them to leave and all hell broke loose. I happened to be standing close to this with a two year old in a stroller that got literally knocked three feet over. (My child landed on the grass but was hysterical) I’m talking 40-50 year old parents of the dismantled tent Bama kids, college age kids, teenagers, fist to cuff fighting, as I am standing there holding my two year old- one of the Georgia fans spit at her (my two year old daughter). Needless to say, we left WITHOUT going into the game. Around 6:15- I couldn’t even imagine this place once it got dark! (Gave up our $440.00 worth of tickets because my wife, mother and father in law and kids were so upset). I will NEVER, NEVER, go to Athens again. I plan to write to the University as there was NOT A COP IN SIGHT. What a disgrace. I would be embarrased to be a Georgia parent, fan, player or alumni.
THUGS
I have since talked to several fans who had equally as disturbing stories- car flags broken off cars, cars keyed, tires slashed, beer being thrown on them as they walked to cars, a nine year old’s bama hat being taken off his head and thrown into the road. At last report a buddy from work left Athens this morning They left their own campus trashed. Kinda goes along with all the penalty’s on their football team. UNDISCIPLINED THUGS!!!!!

Bama you have a good team and Saban out coached Richt. He told his players if you can’t get up for this game then you probably shouldn’t be wearing the red and black. He and his staff didn’t get up for it either with all the opportunity that was given before the games kickoff. Black it shouldn’t be back until the entire team and staff develop that killer instinct. That includes running up the score and passing it when you are trying to run it up the middle on a 365lb to 400lb stud Bama had in the middle. By the way Bama fans that 2004 Auburn team that went undefeated your not, so don’t even think about with you one game approach. Tech Fans get a life quit hating we will take yall to the woodshed in our regular season finale. Triple option Hah! Best thing yall got going is number 8 BAY BAY THOMAS and he is my cousin, to stupid not to get him the ball.

Two things happened in Saturday’s game. Georgia was out played on the field and Richt and his staff were out coached on the sidelines and in the boxes.

I think Georgia just forgot that you have to play with intensity to win a football game, not just go out and have FUN as many have said. This may be a good thing for the team; they definetly have what it takes to win. They are winners. And you can believe that Richt will have them ready the next time. Keep your heads up and your minds on business Dawgs, and you will be there at the end.

I’ve seen two “perfect” games played by UGA opponents the last two years. TENN last year and ALA on Saturday. Sometimes, it just falls into place. Dawg fans, don’t think this one game is a sign of the ability of lack thereof of our team or coaches. Just remember TENN on 07 and the aftermath. Also, Bamma fans, you better not think this one game is a picture of exactly where you are today. Perfect only happens about one game a season. It’s college football and subject to change every weekend. So, congrats to the Tide for a great win, but be careful in the coming weeks. Dawgs get your chin up. There are opportunities awaiting. Go Dawgs

I am a Gator, and we got our @@@ handed to us by Ole Miss because Urban Meyer did a poor job of coaching and his offensive coordinator is terrible. Ditto for Mark Richt against BAMA. Hats off to BAMA, Satan and John Parker Wilson. They simply clobbered the Dawgs. The “blackout” thing was stupid on Richt’s part. In 2001, Holtz did the same thing with his SoCar team to prepare for Florida. The Florida players said it was wierd, but it made it easier for Grossman to see the receivers because Florida was in all white uniforms and he was tossing against a black background of players and fans. The result was worse than what BAMA did to UGA. At least UGA made it a fight in the second half.SoCar also called it “back in black”, and Richt was stupid enough to buy into the scheme. Wilson easily saw hisreceivers as did Grossman in 2001 against SoCar. It is a long season. BAMA will loose and UF and UGA may loose at least 3 games unless both coaches get it right. It seems like both Meyer and Richt are reading too many good things about their teams instead of coaching. For the DAWGS, all I can say is ya’ll have been doing a lot of barking, but you have had little bite. Your new mascot looks great, and he is probably tougher than your offensive line. Beware of the VOLS, they are wounded and as mad as UGA. That will be a good game with or without Mareno. Hopefully the Cocktail Party Game will be better coached on both sides. Both UF and UGA stunk on Saturday, but the smell was from the coaches. I am honestly sad for all of the down to earth Gator and Dawg fans. The fanatics on both sides need to get a life. Go Gators!

What’s the SEC excuse now after (A) The next, best SEC team ever (Georgia) gets blow-out at home and (B) The greatest player in the history of college football and the most innovative coach in history gets beaten at home by something called Ole Miss? Talk as much as you want SEC fan because you all fold like a little girl in the biggest of big games!

Once again the UGA ‘fans’ prove their ignorance. ‘Wait til the rematch in the SEC title game’????? Your Bulldogs had their collective @ss handed to them. Don’t give me any of this crap about how they made a comeback in the 2nd half. They did no such thing. Bama was sitting in a prevent allowing underneaths and letting clock the clock run. Thats what you do when you win the game by halftime. As soon as UGA scored, guess what right down the field Bama goes and puts up the dagger points. Lets keep in mind that this would have been 14 points less to the credit of UGA if the Punt return would have been called back on the obvious block in the back and the fortunate recovering of an onside kick when the game was long out of reach. This game was a ROUT. They came into your home and stomped your @sses with a hobnail boot. Munson must have known it was coming so he called it quits knowing that having to call the game would have given him a heart attack. REMATCH??? SEC Title game??? What on EARTH makes you idiots think you belong on the field with these guys? Heres what we know now about UGA: The Defense is SOFT, Stafford isn’t capable of leading a comeback, Moreno is no Heisman candidate and now feigns injury to miss the Tenn game (i see now that it takes 2 weeks for a bruised elbow to heal…more like his tail is tucked and he needs an excuse to stay out of sight) This was a complete gashing of your precious and O V E R R A T E D Go-Dawgs. This is the same team in essence that was embarrassed by UT last year and was a timely fumble from dropping 2 in a row to Vandy…why did you ever think you would be a more legitimate team? Stafford still looks like a freshman. If not for AJ Green, he probably wouldn’t have ANY completions this year. And its not over…I’m still curious to see what reasoning you can come up with as to why exactly you expect to go to the bayou and win against LSU when you can’t even hold bama to an interesting game in your own back yard with your tiresome ‘blackout’ gimmick. No, as you have for years, you will continue to profess some injustice done to you when you go to the outback bowl and play Florida State. I’m going to see if I can get a copy of this game from the NCAA. Its a good laugh.

UGA apparently though they were annointed with BCS championship by the pre-season polls….Obviously Ala and several other SEC schools think not ! The UGA weaknesses were obvious to anyone who knows football, and is not blinded by black shirts and hype….The next four games with determine UGA’s future for this season….CMR has done a mediocre job with this team, he better wake up and start coaching and get on his assistants rear ends. This is not a disiplined team, and they folded under pressure….ROLL TIDE…

I see that the Dawgs fans have sobered up and have now convinced themselves that this was just an aberration and that they can beat Bama in a rematch (I’m a disturbed Auburn fan btw, that Bama is this good already).
Think again. Mark Richt has been coaching at UGA for a lot of years and two things now are clear. 1. He is a great recruiter, with as much talent as anyone in the SEC. 2. He is a horrible, lousy coach and an even worse disciplinarian. Saban ripped him a new one. What I don’t get is how the writers didn’t know this - I guess they make their random votes for #1 teams based on talent and not on mediocrity of coaching. UGA has no defense - maybe only once was JPW pressured.
You get called THUGA for a reason. Cheap shots on the QB which cost you a turnover should result in players being benched. Richt needs to grow a spine and show those prima donna players that if they do things to hurt the team they will not play, regardless of how unprepared their backup might be. That there were two roughing the QB calls during the run up of 31 unanswered points on your home field says it all, and those player will probably pay no price other than going home Saturday night as the big losers.
If somehow UGA makes it to the SECC game, if Bama is there Saban will own you again. It might not be as bad, or it might be worse. Richt has shown no improvement as a coach over the years. Saban has shown that Bama is getting what they paid for.

Bored,
You are a classless jerk. Play your silly little dawg baiting game if you want. But you are a real creep for talking about Munson that way. The guy is sick and morons like you want to throw him into your little childish tirades.
As for the rest of your diatribe…YAWN.
This team is better than last year’s and look what they did. You must be a bitter, ill used techie who got beat up by a UGA player or who loved a UGA cheerleader from afar.
I do thank your for giving me an opportunity to get in a word or two about the poll system. It is crap. It is a joke. It is a beauty contest. UGA has gotten the short end of it in the past. LSU just got passed in the polls by bama. So UGA and LSU have both been bumped down in the polls for winning. Bama has not won much in the past ten years—-LSU and UGA have—and bama goes from being unranked to number two in five games.
The polls are fundamentally flawed. Poll voters are biased to teams they see play and therefore, cannot know if a team is good unless they play enough on TV. Coaches rank their opponents lower than they should to aid in recruiting and other personal agenda issues. Each and every year, deserving teams are passed over in the rankings because of perceptions of voters as to a wide range of personal criteria for voting. There is no consistency in it and it is a sham.
UGA is just one of many teams hurt by polls in the past. Auburn got shafted a few years ago. Ohio State benefits from bias every year—playing in a weak conference with a weak SOS yet they somehow are ALWAYS in the preseason talk of a NC. This aids their recruiting in the hype of ESPuke and other media outlets. They get their butts destroyed in the NC game by SEC teams, and still, they are ranked 1 or 2 in the nation every year.
If we have a playoff system, there would be no need for polls at all. If we can’t shed the greedy bowl system, then polls should not be done until AFTER the conference championship games. If a team does not win a conference championship game…they cannot be ranked. BCS rankings could then be used and voting in AP and Coaches polls could be based on SOS, head to head competition, and a complete body of work. Still not a perfect system, but a quantum leap above what we have now.
If we could get two bowls to play ball—we slot the top four ranked teams in those, allowing the winners to play a plus one NC game. It is a compromise position but better than what we have now.
College Presidents—give us a playoff.

Everyone is reading way too much into this game. All this talk about Nick Saban and Alabama being so good…you have got to be kidding me. Alabama is good, but they are definitely beatable. UGA played a very sloppy 1st half and in the SEC, you don’t make up a deficit of 31 points, but you know what…GA had a slim chance to do that…not many teams could have done that. If UGA eliminates their mental penalties…and their fluke turnover…this is a different game…I’m not making excuses…UGA got BEATDOWN, but don’t get too high on BAMA…it’s a long season and they may have a bad half sometime as well…GO DAWGS!

I wont make any excuses for the Georgia lost. The DAWGS simply got beat by a Great Alabama Football Team Saturday night. Although I still believe that the DAWGS are a great team, I still in my heart believe that the Dawgs are the better team. Alabama just was the better Team this past Saturday Night.
Now with all the media hype, the fans hype, and probably the Team hype and being over confident, they could get down to playing some serious football. From this point on, the Dawgs need to get a lot serious about the games they are heading to next.
What cost the Dawgs the game was the 1st Quarter penalties, and the first Five possessions of Alabama which resulted from the Dawgs penalties that Bama scored off of.
I have NEVER in my life seen the Dawgs use such poor judgement in racking up so much penalties. Because of the Bama made the Dawgs pay for it and pay for it Dearly. I have never seen Georgia down so may points in the first quarter.
As I watched the fans sitting in Stanford Stadium stunned, I could help but think what was going through the players head, and Coach Richt.
Had the Dawgs played the first half like the second half of playing, they would have beaten Bama. For the Dawgs to Score 30 points in the second half and holding bama to just 10 points in the second half tells me that the Dawgs are a better team than Bama.
Bama just was the better team that night. With congrads going out to the Nick Saban and the TIDE, I will say this……….. “WE WILL MEET AGAIN IN THE SEC Championship.
I am sure that the Dawgs have learned a valuable lesson behind this, and will HUNKER DOWN and really play some football with NO Penalties.
I have a great deal of respect, and admiration for Coach Mark Richt. He has taken this Georgia Football Program when it became a unacceptable football program, and made it a Great Football Program.
I have Full confidence in Coach Mark Richt, and his coaching staff. From this point on, The Georgia Bulldogs Football Team will be a Team to be Recognized.
I am confident that the dawgs from this point will lose no more games, and will the SEC East. My prediction is that Bama will win the SEC West over LSU, and we will meet them again. From that point, we will beat the TIDE and will win the SEC Conference Championship. Black Out or NO Black Out.
The ONLY Funeral that will occur this time that Alabama coaches were saying will be their own when The Georgia Bulldogs finish with them.
GO Dawgs!!!! SIC EM. BEAT EM!!!!! THIS TIME, LEAVE NO DOUBT!!!!!!!

BCS Slave,
Alabama has moved up the polls because of their performance on the field - they crushed what was supposed to be the best Clemson team in years (they suck it turns out), they completely humiliated Arkansas in Little Rock, and then there was Saturday night mugging against a completely overrated, under-prepared, poorly coached Georgia. UGA got dropped from #1 because they beat South Carolina ONLY BECAUSE South Carolina threw an INT going into the end zone to tie the game I believe, or did you forget that little detail? UGA has been completely unimpressive against decent teams, and completely inept against a very well coached Bama. No defense and an offense that sputters against a decent defense.
Yes, the BCS rankings are complete fantasy at the beginning of the season but I think what you are seeing now is some truth begin to emerge (though I suspect that the Alabama team that neutered the Dawgs could run roughshod over the Oklahomers - who have they played anyway?).
As an Auburn fan I’m no supporter of the BCS and am eager for a playoff system. I do agree with the perennial media darlings like tOSU and USC always getting the nod for #1 without having to prove anything. ESPN and other media outlets are dying to put Michigan and Notre Dame at the top of the polls but those teams don’t even pass the laugh test these days (Michigan did get a nice victory over the Badgers this weekend though).
Georgia will continue to win big games here and there (you’ve had AU’s number the past couple of years but your biggest asset in those games, Auburn’s Brandon Cox, graduated), but until serious changes are made in the coaching staff you will continue to struggle with mediocrity. As an Auburn fan I know how this is.

Bama was coached above it’s potential, UGA was coached below it’s talent. Richt is a good coach, but not a great one. Which is why UGA will never be a powerhouse football program with him at the helm. I like Richt, but he’s like Mac Brown at TX. He doesn’t know how to coach his talent to the top level. He’ll win enough that UGA will keep him around, but if you want to win a championship, you’ll need a player (like Vince Young) who can lead the team to winning. Stafford is a better talent that Young, but Young had the drive to carry his team. Just know it won’t be Richt (or Brown). Nice guys don’t always finish last, but in this case, they definitely don’t know how to finish first. I’ve thought this for a while, but Richt’s comments about how to deal with penalties was the clincher. You’d never hear Carroll or Stoops say something like that.

The first half was an embarrassment and I blame the coaches entirely. It is the coaches job to prepare their team for a game this big. While I love that Richt is enjoying this year more than the last, I also think there is such a thing as too loose before a game. It was obvious that everyone was unprepared for what they faced. I was very proud of the boys after the half. To come out with that much deficit and still fight and continue to fight to the final seconds is a testament to their drive. Get the coaches back in line and we’ll be fine.

Bama was playing Georgia while they are very hot right now, John parker wilson is not an NFL QB, but he overacheived this game, just like the whole Alabama team. I still think GA has the better team on the field and got outcoached by the NFL flunkie, Saban has not proved in anything in the pro’s and if another job offer comes along he will go back to the NFL(bama fans). Alabama will lose at least one game this season. I don’t see them holding up this type of intensity all season. Ga needs to fix the mental errors make a season of it to play in the SEC championship, and if they meet Saban, time for payback and all the trash talking coaches on their staff. This is not the LSU type team that beat GA two times. Watch you ego Saban because if he falters this season again, bama fans might be coachless. ha

You’re right on the Mark this time Mr. Bradley. I can think of one other recent game the Bulldogs looked this bad - the Sugar Bowl against West Virginia. We spotted them 28 before we woke up. CMR is one of the best coaches out there, but these situations are coaching problems. Having a QB at Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach has led to too much reliance on passing the ball, especially since our WRs aren’t dependable at catching. I consider it a fortunate fluke every time we catch a pass. Instead of using the running game to open up the passing game, our running game was destroyed as Moreno got hurt blocking on a pass play. Running ain’t sexy, but that’s how you win ballgames in the SEC, as Alabama showed on Saturday.
It seems like since Dooley left - maybe even before - there is some institutional mental cloudiness that comes over UGA teams year after year where they don’t play to their level when they have a higher ranking than their opponent. UGA teams perform at their peak when they are underdogs, but we see some of the ugliest games when they are favored. This is a coaching problem. I had hoped CMR would have helped us overcome this institutional high-headedness, but it looks like he’s still got a lot of work to do before UGA can be a real national championship contendor.

You two are both clueless- GA has the better team? Oh, really. And this one is on the coaches, Brizdawg, REEEAAAALLLY? That is the worst piece of commentary I’ve seen on this blog, blame it on anyone but the players. Your team got their arrsss handed to them- plain and simple. You lost every battle in this game and it was never close. Coaching was just one of the small battles lost. Keep telling yourself you have more talent that Bama, but it sure didn’t look that way to this unbiased viewer. Go hit the keg a few more times and tell me how Stafford and/or Moreno should win the Heisman. You guys need to worry about Tennessee and any other overhyped SEC team you play going forward. Nice comment on JP Wilson and that he is not an NFL qb. I would agree but he sure did look like one against your Dawgs. And Stafford may have all the tools in the world, but he sure didn’t live up to the hype. And it doesn’t matter if you have Elway back there, nobody can play from their back! You guys need to go back to your trailers and cry in your beer. What a bunch of idiots!

Where was Moreno going to run? Bama’s D line was coming through like a tidal wave on every play. And don’t act like the receivers are solely to blame, Stafford didn’t always put it on the money. And I love it, your reference to Dooley- what the hell did he have to do with that arrss whipping? Is it Damon Evans fault now? Keep drinkin’ from their OVERHYPED fire house, redneck. willie,
keep telling yourself its Martinez and Bobo’s fault. You UGA fans are delusional- your team got beat like a drum IN EVERY FACET OF THE GAME. Your team got a gift TD when there was a clear block in the back on the punt return. And it still wasn’t close! Coaching can’t overcome the physical domination on both lines of scrimmage. If UGA is all that talented, then why do you always have to resort to some gimmick to get psyched up? You guys need to wake up and realize that your dogs are all hype, no substance. Skill players can make up for being soft in the trenches. And even your skill players are OVERRATED. Where were Stafford and Moreno? I thought this was supposed to be their statement game for the Heisman that all you dog fans had penciled in. I’ve said it before and will say it again- you guys have more preseason National Championships than any team.

Do SEC fans ever stop and wonder why Ohio State and USC are always in the top 10 and ‘media darlings’ as many of you put it? Maybe its the 18 combined National Championships, 14 Heismans or countless All-Americans. You see the difference between those two schools and any SEC team not named Alabama is something called tradition. Florida doesn’t have it. Auburn deosn’t have it. LSU is just now starting to get it. And Georgia…well, when the most recognizable name in your team’s history is an announcer, then you’re not a big-time college football team. Oh, and another thing - does it strike anyone else as odd that the 3 elite coaches in the SEC have ties to the Big 10 (Urban - OSU, Miles - Michigan, Saban - Michigan State) and the fakers (Richt, Tuber-nuts, et. al) don’t…

thad you’re a whiner! nobody told that idiot to wack the qb in the facemask. that’s just pure stupidity. nobody told the defensive lineman to take two steps and then push the qb to the ground long after he had released the ball, even one of georgia’s own lineman looked disgusted at the stupid mistake his teammate made. nobody told the georgia defensive back to make a stupid interference penalty in the end zone when the knucklehead could have just turned around and caught the under-thrown ball himself. and nobody told the goergia center to drape himself around the alabama lineman and try and tackle him right in front of the ref. and by the way the georgia center could even tackle the guy worth a damn. and I did see a bad block on the kickoff return for georgia that could have easily been called a clip and wasn’t. so nobody is picking on poor poor georgia. the problem is that the team and fans are so arrogant and have a sense of entitlement and think thye should win national championships without playing the games. you guys should be called the uga sheep from now on for how easily led all of you were by the marketing people of clothing and sports apparel companies, they saw you coming like a naive tourist and made a ton of money on all the black shirts they con-ned you into thinking you needed. lookout, the next thing will be a silver shirt day, y’all don’t have that one yet do ya?

someone should tell #23 Prince Miller that defensive holding is illegal and the easiest defensive pass interference holding to call is the one where the DB is pulling on the jersey of the receiver. it is just so obvious when the receivers jersey is all stretched out. how do you not call that? but the more important thing is the fact that when a DB has to resort to that, they’re getting beat. they’re desperate. maybe it’s not the refs, maybe #23 isn’t good enough. that’s where Georgia’s opposing offensive coordinators should throw. and watch, that’s what’s going to happen.

if the referees were picking on Georgia why didn’t they call A.J. Green for his push off of the Alabama DB’s on that long pass attmept in the first quarter? it was clearly offensive pass interference and even both announcing crews for ESPN and CSS pointed it out. it was so obvious and if he hadn’t done it there could have easily been an Alabama interception that could have changed the game even further by possibly a 38-0 deficit at halftime. so how did the refs pick on Georgia that time?

I care to comment. my Mom graduated from LSU she’s a big fan of course. I have always lived in Georgia and I am a UGA fan. but I was disgusted the way my Mother was treated by UGA fans. a sweet looking over 60 Granmother type being insulted and cussed at because she bought a ticket to see her team in a stadium near her new home. she’s been to more than one stadium and said the Bulldog fans were horrible, unnecessarily horrible. even when she went to Ole Miss to see a game between LSU’s biggest rival the fans were decent and accomodating. they still didn’t like my Mom’s team but they just joked with her about it they didn’t have to be buttheads. what kind of man would trash talk a sweet old lady for any reason? the answer: a real man wouldn’t. sportmanship is important and while confidence is good, arrogance is terrible. this school and this team are quickly becoming the University of Miami of the North and that is so far beyond sad. you can support and love your team without being a low class brat.

hey Fortson,
U say you “own” Alabama because you won 3 of the last 4. Isn’t that “living in the past” as you like to accuse bama fans of doing. Incidentally, 2 of those last 4 were way back in 2002 and 2003 when nobody on this years teams were playing.
Lastly, if you want to gloat about history and the past of now having won 3 of last 4 then lets just go all the way back and look at the whole series history. The count now stands at Alabama with 36 wins, UGA with 25 wins, 5 ties. Now I ask you “Who really owns who?”

Your anonymous attacks reveal your true character. Instead of having a friendly conversation you want to try and hurt others with your words, but it’s clear you’re the one who’s hurt; I hope you find help. Remember that Jesus loves you, no matter what.
My earlier post was putting this loss into context of a greater problem for UGA: the consistent failure to get up for big games when we are favored. That’s a coaching problem. Is Bama better than Georgia? Absolutely. They proved it by controlling the line of scrimmage and they got the W, case closed. Could Georgia have played better? Absolutely. They proved it by shutting down Bama in the second half. One of Bama’s key weaknesses was exposed: get pressure on JPW and he can’t complete a pass. But the Bulldogs had no answer for Bama’s running game and the O-line was pushed around all night.
As for unruly UGA fans: when you dress in red and black you don’t notice it as much, but I have heard from friends from other schools that we’re probably the worst in terms of respecting visitors. They chalk it up to the difference between alumni and locals. You can count on a UGA alum to treat you well, and most locals will do the same, but there are some uneducated folks with no life who enjoy making life miserable for others since they are miserable themselves. I feel badly for visitors who aren’t treated properly, but nothing really I can do since I live in Philadelphia and can’t go to games regularly anymore and demonstrate proper courtesy myself. Of course not all UGA fans are obnoxious, and the vast majority are downright hospitable; it’s a small percentage that ruin things for the rest. I will say that an evening game is not going to be a family environment, and you are foolish to bring children to one and not expect to run into obnoxious drunk people. That’s one of the reasons why UGA generally avoids these games.

there you go all you Bama fans, you finally have a season you might have some hope for and you start tootin your horns! Where have ya’ll been the last 5 years??? that’s what I thought, i knew Georgia wasn’t going to go undefeated all year, but hey it’s just 1 loss, Maybe we’ll meet again in Atlanta and get our revenge. ya’ll rolled us the first half I’ll give you that, if we’d only played like we did in the first half it might be a different story. it’s ok Dawg Nation maybe this will be like last year when we got beat by TN then went on to win 11 straight. Thanks Bama for giving us our wake up call, see ya in Atlanta if ya’ll can get by LSU and Auburn which I doubt! : ) Go Dawgs!!

“We will kick BAMA out of the top 10, just like OLE MISS did To FLORIDA”
So Kentucky is 4-0 - so what? BAMA is 5-0, and we’ve actually played against some ranked teams.

JT, U are just a pathetic, sore loser. Where have we been the last 5 yrs? Well, we were ranked 3rd in that nation in 05 for several weeks. U just wish we’ve always been irrelevant. And then u say maybe we will get by LSU and Auburn but u doubt it. Why can’t we. After all, we sure as heck got by your blackout. As for a rematch in the conference game you should worry about taking care of business on your own end before you keep up the smack talk about even getting there to begin with. And do you really want a rematch? No matter of Xes and Os and gameplanning can change physical domination on the line of scrimmage. Nothing will change the fact that if there is a rematch we will still dominate and utterly manhandle you on the line of scrimmage. Get over yourselves.

why even Athens gossip has it that the refs paid off the Georgia to deliberately make those two crummy punts with absolutely no one in his face. yep it’s those pesky refs again. you just watch they’re gonna pay off the field goal kicker next week.

the sense of entitlement for ALL UGA fans is so bad that when they come to my casino in Vegas they immediately go to the counter for their winnings. cause what’s the point really their just going to waste a whole bunch of time playing when they could be doing something else more important like coordinating their attire with the other cult members.

Saban has created a better team in TWO years at Bama with another coach’s players than Richt has created in EIGHT years at Georgia. I’d still take Spurrier anyday. I’ve never been so embarrassed to be a Bulldawg in my life - not under Donnan or Goff. All I ever hear is excuses. Terrible coaching, no offensive line, no defensive line, no defensive pressure, no defensive backs (pass coverage). Thse guys are a clowns. Valdosta wouldhave played better against Bama. And it’s going to get worse, much, much worse.

georgia could easily go 8-4 and if they don’t take tenn, ga tech, kentucky and vandy seriously it could get bad really quick. remember dawg fans, vandy is #1 in the eastern division and you aren’t.

jc_atl,
Don’t come in here and try to act smart…you aren’t. You just proved my point. If UGA is overratted and the crap team you say…if all Bama has played are teams that have turned out to “suck” as you say…then bama hasn’t played ANYONE. They’ve won games, but so far, they are objectively no better than LSU, Missouri, or other teams that they jumped this week in the polls.
My agenda is not to say bama is undeserving…it is to point out how nonsensical the polls are.

God I love the Dawg fans.. They get absolutely dominated and they still can not give credit to Alabama for out playing and scheming them. O and for those who think that the Dawgs are going to be in Atlanta later on in the season, these people are morons. Georgia is going to get beat by florida hands down because of UGA’s lack of play in the trenches.

Mike,
God I love bama fans. They just don’t seem able to read or at least comprehend what other people write. Many of us have given bama credit. I personally don’t care if you belive UGA will get to Atlanta or not. A lot of things can happen over the course of a season…as evidenced by last year. Those who fail to see that are morons themselves.
