This blog has moved! Yes, already!

As of Thursday, Feb. 12, this little blog has relocated to a new home on AJC.com. It’s the same newspaper, the same Web site and the same writer (feel free to groan) — there’s just a new URL.

New features: Bigger type, more graphics, comments that load 10 times faster and a larger and more recent photo that makes me look pretty doggone old. I think you’ll like it (the blog, not the photo). But I am, as we know too well, often wrong.

First, and 10 reasons Dogs will rank there

No sense mincing words. Georgia will win the BCS title, and here are 10 reasons why.

1. They’ll be ranked loftily from the get-go. LSU could lose twice and still play for the 2007 BCS title because the college football world had grown accustomed to the Tigers at or near the top. And pollsters snubbed Georgia in the final balloting because, even though folks kept voting the Bulldogs higher and higher, nobody had given them much consideration as a national champion.

2. Their schedule will keep them visible and therefore viable. Back to LSU: The Tigers played big games every single month. Even though they lost twice, they kept getting chances to redeem themselves. Georgia has South Carolina and Arizona State and Alabama in September, Tennessee and LSU in October, Florida and Auburn in November. If the Bulldogs lose only once, they’ll be playing in Miami in January.

3. Even if the Bulldogs lose a big road game in the Central Time Zone, they could well get a second chance. If we assume that the loss will come either at LSU or at Auburn, we can also assume that a rematch in the SEC championship game in the Georgia Dome would favor the team from Georgia.

4. Florida’s hold has been broken. The World’s Largest Outdoor Whatchamacallit runs in streaks, and the Bulldogs are about to start one. Mark Richt’s celebration-on-demand changed the dynamics of a series that had seen his side come to believe it couldn’t beat the hated Gators. (Losing 15 of 17 can have that effect.) The Bulldogs now know otherwise. So do the Gators.

5. Knowshon Moreno is the nation’s best back, and his presence brings balance to Georgia’s offense. There’s nothing wrong with throwing the ball strategically, but it’s worth noting that Georgia’s best seasons under Richt — the breakthrough of 2002 and last year’s revival — have come when it had a 1,000-yard back. And let’s not forget Caleb King. (ajc.com bloggers haven’t.)

6. Matthew Stafford throws better when he throws less. It’s simple math, really: If Stafford looses 30 passes a game, assume five will be forced. If he grows accustomed to handing the ball off and throws 10 fewer passes, figure his completion percentage — only 55.7 last season — will rise to a more suitable level.

7. Mark Richt has been pointing toward the national title since 2002, but he hasn’t yet had the right team at the right moment. This time he will, and he’ll know how to handle it better than in 2004, when a gifted bunch of Bulldogs peaked too soon.

8. Willie Martinez gets no credit — just results. Georgia fans still bemoan the loss of Brian VanGorder, but the unloved Martinez has returned the defense to unyielding eminence. Remember how many splendid defenders LSU fielded last season — Dorsey, Highsmith, Steltz, Jackson? Those Tigers yielded 33 touchdowns in 14 games. Georgia yielded 28 in 13.

9. Sophomore linebacker Rennie Curran is about to get huge, figuratively speaking. He isn’t big — 5 feet 11 — but he’s everywhere. Curran made his first start against Florida, and over the final six games he had 36 solo tackles and three sacks. You won’t find him on early All-American lists, but you’ll know him by season’s end.

10. Uga VI is gone but not forgotten, and there exists no deeper feeling than the memory of a beloved dog. Who among us didn’t get teary-eyed over Old Yeller? What red-blooded Bulldog wouldn’t clothesline Urban Meyer’s grandmother to dedicate a posthumous championship to this fallen critter?

true for the most part, as i never believed a 2 loss team would be declared champions. (so much for a play-off system). but, after living in gainesville for 5 years, betting on the puppies every year, an losing, gator fans are as obnoxious as dawg ones are!!! didn’t bet last year, was tired of losing money. but yeh, i’m going adrift here, when all the dawgs future boss’s from north avenue, upset them this year, i’ll just quietly chuckle, and give sht to all da rednecks that chew baccy an have G flags hanging on their porch next to the confederate flag. that was quite entertaining to read! UGAG is going to be the most hyped up talked about and most importantly, OVER RATED PIECE OF GARBAGE football team in all of college football this season. They have a nice large target on their backs and everyone is out to get them this year. The tide will roll over them, LSU will whip them, Spurrier will kill them, the gators are going to DESTROY them, and the streak will end this year! TO HELL WITH GEORGIA! Good riddens to uga VI

I hope you’re right, Mark, but that schedule’s a bear. We’ll know more (as we always do) after Jax. I think a two-loss UGA that wins the SEC would have a good shot if we have a situation like last year, but it would be a long shot. As every former nat’l champ can attest, not only do you have to be great, but you have to get a few lucky bounces your way too. We’ll need ‘em to get to Miami in January. As always, winning the SEC in my book is paramount, after that if the national championship (American Football Idol) is available - go get it, boys. Luv ya Dawgs!

The bigger the hype the bigger they fall. I honestly don’t believe they can win it all b/c the schedule is insane. I think Spurrier & Vandy could be the games that sneak up on ugaY. I know Spurrier got ‘em last Yr. & the revenge factor, but w/ Ariz. St. the next week, and LSU after Vandy, those 2 could be calssic look-ahead games.

Tech is completely a ? mark, they could be decent, or attrocious.

At the beginning of every football season, Tech fans say, “Bring on Georgia. We’re going to kick their rear ends.” Then every Dec. after Georgia beats them, Tech fans say, “Wait until next year.” This year will be no different.

It doesn’t matter whether Georgia wins a national championship or even an SEC championship, as Mark Bradley already annointed them the “standard bearer of the SEC” 2-3 years ago, shortly before they lost 5 consecutive games against the SEC East.

Take Mark’s word for it, the rest of the SEC doesn’t exist when it comes to football, it’s just that most years one of the others acts as placeholder for the Standardbearers.

Sure hope it pans out this way.

There are a number of variables that a national title team has to have. The jury’s still out on some of them, but Georgia’s got most of them in place for a run. Talent? Check. Coaching? Check. Leadership? From what I understand, check. Emotional maturity? The jury is still out, but the team seemed pretty mature by the end of last season. Scheduling? A bear, but not insurmountable. Luck? That’s a variable one cannot control. It remains to be seen whether Georgia will be lucky or snakebit with regard to injuries, weird little fumbles, etc. All of those things can play a role here.

As for the specifics of the schedule:

Most likely losses are to LSU and Auburn—likely one or the other, not both. One ofthose teams will likely win the West, so a chance at revenge would be possible.

Florida is the third most likely loss, but if the Gators keep losing DBs (another one went down for th eyear this past week) from their already slipshod secondary, this game could be over before kickoff. They’ll have to play some D to beat Georgia this season. Doesn’t matter what Tebow’s doing (unless he’s playing free safety)—no one with a weak defense will be able to stop the Dawgs.

South Carolina will not beat Georgia this season. They shouldn’t have beaten them last year (Georgia was flat), and the Dawgs will be greatly improved on offense this season. This game will not be close. In fact, I will say right now that Steve Spurrier will never beat Georgia again in his career. It’s over. Visor Boy should’ve stayed retired. His rep is flaking away bit by bit as long as he lingers in the Graveyard of Coaches. The talent gap will be so great between Georgia and South Carolina the next three years that there will be no chance of a Gamecock victory over that span. And then Stevie Boy will either retire, cutting his losses, or die of sheer embarassment.

And Tech?

Tech and Notre Dame will have roughly the same record this year. And that’s not good for either team. The rebuilding Jackets will be lucky to win 6 games this season. My pick is 5-7, which will be their worst record in over a decade. Only nine starters return, and with a new offensive system and a new DC, it’s going to be a long season on the Flats. And a streak will end. It just won’t be the streak Tech fans want to end.

The Dawgs will win again over the Jackets. That streak will continue.

HOWEVER,

Tech’s record of 11 consecutive bowl invitations will end this season. The Jackets will spend the holidays this season watching football on TV and talking about next year.

Again.

By Uncle Dave

July 13, 2008 6:01 PM | Link to this

Mark: You have to make predictions, and I hope you are right, but you assume an awful lot! I also hope that none of the team is bothering to read your column! To be sure they have a chance, but only if they fight and claw their way though every minute of every game. You sound like a fantasy football captain in your analysis. Let’s join the real world shall we.

One of the spots in the big game is most likely going to the winner of the USC/Ohio State game. It is likely that the winner runs the table thereafter. That leaves one more opening… but for who?

If Richt’s team goes undefeated, nobody would keep them out of the game… but the odds of that are extremely low. Just for argument’s sake, say they go on the road and beat Arizona state and South Carolina back to back (neither of those is a given). They still have to beat Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, LSU and a very tough Auburn team that , while young, may just be peaking by the end of the season… I would howl at the moon with everyone else if all of that happened, but I cannot assume such a fate because they look good on paper. It is not impossible to do, but it will not magically unfold just because everyone and their mother keeps telling these guys how great they are.

Your assumption that they are going to automatically beat Florida is absurd for obvious reasons… that game is going to be a real down and dirty battle. I doubt very seriously if dancing in the end zone last year is going to win the game this year! They better be able to throw the ball and stop tim Tebow in his candidacy for a second Heisman.

To be sure, Florida showed that it could be done several years ago when everyone said their schedule was too tough and they went all the way, but an absence of injuries and some good luck would have to come into play. If the Dawgs lose to Florida, it is likely the Gators go all the way. Do not count LSU and Auburn out of it either. The winner of their game will have something to say about the championship as well. I like your optimism… but let’s just worry about not losing the first game (or losing any more players before kickoff) and then we can move on to the second… and so on.

By Spoon

I would agree with all that reasoning, but would throw out there one thing that could stumble the dogs and there run at the title. That is simply another SEC team doing the same thing, what if that one team is Florida or Tennesse? Georgia loses that one game and the other team o only lose one then we have another tie going to the winner over Georgia and UGA is again shut out of the the SEC title game. That doesn’t mean a lock out of the BCS title game but it wouldn’t be good either. The other is like some have predicted that Georgia will stumble at Auburn. And Auburn could run their schedule with a possible stumble at West Virginia. So you could have two one loss team with the Title game on the line in Atlanta assuming that there aren’t several major teams that are undefeated left. Wouldn’t that cool to know that the winner advances and the loser doesn’t? Lol damn this going to be a great year for the SEC…we should love it.

  • It is about F’ing time UGA plays a tough schedule. It is an absolute disgrace that the pups have not gone outside of the eastern timezone for a non conference game since 1960. that is almost 50 years. About freaking time!!!
  • What is your damn point. The pups will most likely lose to BOTH and wont make it to ATL anyway.
  • HA HA HA HA HA HA. Win one game when the heisman trophy winner is playing about 50 % and somehow we are all supposed to know that UGA is going to start dominating Florida????????????? Your stupidity amazes me. Just enjoy your streak of one for a few more months dog fans.
  • yes Knowshon is good but the best in the country might be a stretch. Caleb King has not PROVEN a single thing YET.
  • 55.7 % completion and some of you idiots are saying he could be in the heisman race??????????????? need I say more?
  • This is the same exact thing that the entire IDIOTIC dog nation has been saying for almost 30 years now. 8.he gets plenty of credit
  • who cares???????????
  • if all you damn UGA dolts would do everyone a favor and help out the environment and go shed your tears over the lakes so they would fill back up it would be GREATLY appreciated.
  • The pups go 9-3 and go to Capital One bowl and suddenly 09/10 will be the year of the national championship for the puppies. That is of course what you will write Mr. Bradley after you come up with some fabulous excuses for us all to read why does not win it all in 08/09.

Are the Dawgs good…… sure, but they’re schedule is no tougher than many schools in the SEC each year. The fact that they have to go to LSU has them frazzled. I said last year that having so many freshmen starting could be a help. They were too dumb to be scared of UF. 5- Agree. 6- Agree, somewhat. Stafford was a sophmore last year. Towers said that He looks to be in the besr shape of His time at UGA. Stafford worked on His delivery a lot during the off season. He should improve as a matter of course. Having A. J. I have no idea what is going to happen this year. Nobody does. If it were up to me we wouldn’t have preseason polls. They are a waste of time and meaningless. But if you’re going to have preseason polls and if you’re going to be objective about it, you’ve got to have Georgia pretty darned high. They return 17 starters from an 11-2 team. The hype is justified. It isn’t Georgia fans putting all of these preseason polls together. And when the preseason AP and coaches polls come out it won’t be Georgia fans that have us in the top 3, if not #1. So all of you crybabies p!ssing in your milk over Georgia’s preseason love just need to take a chill pill. It will all work itself out one way or the other. If everybody wants to talk about overrated, why don’t we talk about how Florida was a preseason top 5 team last year. And then we can talk about how Florida went on to beat only one ranked opponent the entire season and lose four games. Then we can talk about how Florida is once again a top 5 preseason team this year, despite HUGE question marks about its defense and lack of a running back. So yeah, if Florida fans want to talk about overrated I’m game. Bring it. Florida is the very definition of overrated.

Guys, we haven’t even identified our QB yet to run a very complex offense. Let’s hold back on the trash talk.

OK, red & black, doggie fans accuse Tech fans of living in the past…when were those five mythical national titles? I just lashed our crazy Tech fans (not all of them are) for being a bit unrealistic, by the same token, uga fans talking trash to uf is about the same thing.

uga won what? Twice in 15 years over the Gators and you want to try and brag about owning uf over five decades? get a grip man. My advice to you is to brag about beating the gator last year. uga looks great this year. You really don’t need to bring up the past. Play to your strengths if you are going to trash talk.

it is still july and acrimony toward each others college football teams is unrelenting.

who knows what is going to happen, NO ONE,BUT if the posts are any indication, it will be a long season and many upset people because there is only one championship in each conference and one for the national championship.

georgia looks strong on paper, but anything can and will happen so sit back and enjoy, because nobody knows for sure!

These UF guys on this blog need a serious reality check. For one thing, returning seven starters from last year’s defense is not a good thing when you take into account the number of times they got torched. I saw them in the Cap One Bowl and it wasn’t pretty. And they can’t seriously believe that UF has any advantage whatsoever in terms of talent level. It’s rather obvious that both teams have top-drawer athletes. The differences are in coaching style.
They are welcome to have Urban Meyer at UF school; I don’t begrudge them a bit. I’m as excited about CMR now as the day UGA hired him. The record speaks for itself and the titles will come.

Thanks for the nice summertime cfb morsel to get us thru another day, Mark. Too bad so many morons degrade this site with their garbage comments that are completely void of any logic or semblance of reality.
Do Gator fans really wanna talk about hype is right! The gator/tebow hype machine is ranked #1 in Athlon and Phil Steele right now despite the fact that they were LAST IN THE SEC IN PASS D last year and gave up 25.5 ppg! Now they are counting on freshmen safeties and freshman DL to come in and start in the SEC and lead them to a title??? LMFAO!!! Defense wins championships not draws, pitches and chuckin it long. UGA, LSU, AUB and Mich all made UF pay the price for trading route runners for pass protectors and blitzed the pocket and beat their butts! Now so many DCs are going to blitz the house that Tebow will be lucky to even make it to Nov 1st, unless they discover why the fullback was invented. Martinez has more sub 4.4 and 4.3 guys on “D” than you can shake a stick at, you wanna challenge us in space? Go right ahead, you’re walking right into the lions den! All the spread is is the run and shoot repackaged with a mobile QB. This fad gimmicke flag fball BS offense will be run out of the league. LONG LIVE THE POWER-I BABY!!! This very strong UGA coaching staff trots out an even stronger talent laden roster that finished #2 in the country last year and returns 17 starters. This squad has size and depth in the trenches, speed and depth everywhere else and several difference making FREAKS sprinkled on top for good measure. In this teams last six games they DESTROYED EVERYONE by double digits, averaging nearly 40ppg. Noone wanted any part of playing the Dawgs at the end of the year - NOONE!!! And for good reason b/c Moreno is unstoppable and he forces defenses to creep up and leave themselves vulnerable to the deep ball - which Stafford is perfectly suited to deliver.
Bring on this schedule! When we run thru it like a buzzsaw none will be able to deny the Dawgs place in history. So keep crying crybabies because your tears are delicious like fine wine. Hmmmm…
SEE YA IN MIAMI CRYBABIES!!! GO DAWGS!!!

    UF Fans

Enough about 15 out of 18. Some of the boys now playing were pooping their diapers when UF began the streak. Let’s look over the past 4 years where some of the coaches and current players have been involved. The record is 2-2. Nobody owns anyone. Also, stop whining about an “injured” Tebow. He had a “bruised” non-throwing shoulder. He’s a wuss if he can’t deal with that. If he’s so good he should have been able to use his non-bruised legs to avoid some of the 6 sacks. UGA and Michigan showed what UF is all about. Urban “legend” Meyer and his boy toy Tebow are way overhyped.

10 REASONS WHY GEORGIA WON’T EVEN WIN THE SEC EAST:

    10)G eorgia’s schedule is the toughest in the SEC, probably the country;

    9) Matt Stafford throws almost as many interceptions as TDs;

    8) Every team in the SEC must win close games…Georgia is unproven at the field goal kicking position.

    7) Key OL players will be missing at start of season along with FB Brandon Southerland;

    6) Georgia will get every team’s best game since Georgia is picked to win it all;

    5) First things first….Georgia is just 5-6 WITHIN THEIR OWN DIVISION the last two seasons…

    To paraphrase Jim Mora…..

    National Championship???

    We’re talking National Championship???

    4) Where’s the depth??? Dawg fans should start cringing anytime an injury occurs at WR, RB, FB, OL, and DE.

    3) The gimmicks are gone…

Blackout - Done. Stomping on Vandy logo - Done. Unsportsmanlike taunting in endzone - Done.

Really, besides an all out brawl ala his Miami days, what does Richt do for an encore???

    2) Georgia will lose two years in a row to an unranked Gamecock team, dropping Georgia out of the top 10 and making the climb back to #1 or #2 too daunting;

    1) Mark Bradley said Georgia would win it all, therefore they have no chance…

Ga to go 11-2 this year. The losses will be at LSU and at Aub by a combined 7 pts.

Ga will roll up big numbers against UF. UF’s defense will still @#$% big time.

GA will obtain revenge against UT and it wont be pretty for the Vols. Compton will be looking through his earhole by half time with a face full of Sanford stadium turf. He’ll be claiming that he’s Batman by games end.

Ga will take ASU seriously and it will show in Tempe as the Dawgs get the job done with ease. ASU’s defense has no idea whats coming.

Ga defeats Aub in the sec champ game as the dome is filled with red and black supporters.

With 2 loses…I cant say for sure that the Dawgs will be in the BCS. But they will again be the best team on paper as they were last year.

Im a harcore GT Hoops fan (since the final 4 run of 1990), and a fan of UGA football! I gotta say that all the GT football fans on here talking smack make me sick. What yeall really need to focus on is the fact the BCS SUCKS!!

Look, a 2 loss UGA team this year probably wont make the final 1-2 game over a 1 loss Ohio State, OU, USC….even thou all those teams play MUCH weaker schedules….and i think if college was the NFL then UGA would be like the NY Giants and win it all!
BUT…sadly they probably wont be given a shot…

And whats the point of being a GT football fan ….or and ACC team for that matter not named FSU or MIAMI ….when at the VERY best your fighting for 3rd place!

Just ask Auburn a few years back, or Hawaii or Boise State!

Get real pple….if your not a OSU or USC fan….and u STILL support a Non-playoff system……your a idiot!…or you never played sports as a kid and dont understand the importance of the underdog…and competition!

    SOS:

More crackhead talk from Gamecock Country.

First and foremost, do you really think Georgia will come into Columbia flat this year, like they did against the Gamecocks last season? The Dawgs outgained the ‘Cocks in 2007 and still had a chance to win it despite coming in ill-prepared and overconfident. Won’t happen this year. They know that loss cost them a shot at the national title. Sorry, dude. That tapwater offense won’t be able to move the ball against the Dawgs, even if Spurrier does get Stephen Garcia out of rehab in time to open the season. Georgia will blast the ‘Cocks this year by 20. As I mentioned above, Spurrier will never beat Georgia again. Ever.

And depth? Georgia has more depth than anyone in the SEC—much more so than your beloved ‘Cocks. We’re three deep at each DE position, two deep at all of the DB positions, four deep at taliback, three deep at fullback, two deep at OL , three deep at DL, and 2-3 deep at LB. And at WR, we could play a rotation of 7-8 players. All of this does not include ANY of the freshmen. Your “depth” statement betrays your intrinsic ignorance of Georgia football.

Georgia’s record against SECE opponents two years ago has little bearing on how it will play in 2008. That argument doesn’t hold water, as well.

Georgia always gets everyone’s best game. Are the Gators going to try harder this year if Georgia is #1? How about Auburn—you think they didn’t try to bring their ‘A” game last year? Dude, it’s the SEC. There are no walkovers. Just ask Spurrier. Remind him of the Vandy game if he claims otherwise.

Yes, Georgia will have a few players out at the beginning of the year—against Georgia Southern and Central Michigan. Problem is, our third team could beat both of those opponents. We’ll be at full strength when we get to Columbia. The ‘Cocks had better be ready for Brannan Southerland. He’ll be ready to play by then, paving the way for Knowshon to put a McFadden-like hurt on your rush defense. Mark it down.

You engage in some pretty avid smack talk for a fan of a 6-6 ballclub with a sub-.500 all-time record. How many national titles for South Carolina? Zero. SEC titles? Uh, none. How many SECE titles? Uh, none again. BCS bowl games? Zip. Ten-win seasons? One.

Must be the preseason. The Gamecocks have delusions of adequacy once again.

The primary reason Tebow was so ineffective against UGA was simply the fact that UGA’s D line got a tremendous push up the middle, dominated UF’s O line, took away the QB draw that has become a staple of the UF offense, and kept Tebow on his butt all day long. That is how you beat UF. If UF tries to live by that stuff this season they’ll lose 4 more games. Just my take.

I love to hear Dawg fans call other SEC fans delusional.

Speaking of Vandy, Dawgs were one late fumble away from never being able to dance on the “V”. It’s embarrassing that a school as grand as the “Championship Caliber” program Richt has built actually danced on the Vanderbilt field for a victory. That has to be a first in Commodore Stadium. I bet the 10,000 Vandy fans that were actually in attendance were like “damn, we must be pretty good for Georgia to celebrate a victory over us like that.”

Keep dreaming Mutts. I am hoping you are #1. It will make it that much sweeter when the Gators kick your team across Jacksonville. Last year was a fluke - a bunch of classless rednecks that lost to Vandy beating a team that saw the Heisman Trophy winner play injured.

(By the way, for those keeping score at home - that’s two Heisman Trophy winners, two National Championships, and alot of Georgia butt kickings at the hands of Florida since the Almighty Hershel sniffed between some hedges…)

So go ahead, Mutts. Get all pumped up. Gety our crazy endzone celebrations ready. Bring some pyro and some strippers from Body Tap while you’re at it. Get it REAL classy. You’ll need something to celebrate after your team finally beats Vandy this year, because you’re not going to get that chance in Jacksonville.

And heeldawg, you said: “Georgia’s record against SECE opponents two years ago has little bearing on how it will play in 2008. That argument doesn’t hold water, as well.” Guess what my miniture brain-ed friend, the lack of historical success by the Gamecocks didn’t have any bearing on last year’s game did it. Nor will it this year. Yes uga was more talented and is more talented and it didn’t matter nor will it matter. If uga was “flat” last year when we beat you, whose fault was that? I know…it was cmr. And like Spurrier said after we beat you last year, “That wasn’t a shock”. Everybody outside of dawg nation knows what uga is. uga is the Great Pretender.

exNFLplayer, I’ve been blogging for a few months now exactly what you’ve described. The Dawgs sacked Tebow more times in our one game that he’d been sacked during all the previous games last season. We also rolled up 42 points against the defending national champs. Did you catch the gators in their two post season losses? One of only two SEC teams to lose their bowl game. The ONLY thing they have going for them is their schedule - not easy, but a cakewalk compared to the schedule The Dawgs will play.

UT is also in trouble this season. SC - same. Bama and Auburn will be better than most expect. LSU will be good but not the same team they were last year losing their finest on both sides of the ball. Surprise SEC team of the season - Arkansas. They will have an unexpectedly decent record this season.

Bottomline - While I am impressed that Mark Bradley would stick his neck out as far as he has, I would hesitate to completely agree with him. We certainly have the talent, depth, confidence and coaching. The tough schedule and that little thing called “luck” are the big question marks. If the ball bounces our way in the close game(s), we have a shot.

Second, UGA did NOT lose to Vandy. Get your facts straight if you’re trying to make a point.

Third, stop with the “our quarterback was hurt” whining. Good grief, his NON-THROWING shoulder was bruised! Nothing broken, nothing torn. Bruised. That’s like saying your placekicker had a bad game because he had a bruised finger.

UGA thinks they’re going to be awesome every year, and they haven’t been since I was in diapers. The tough schedule will be the end of the Dogs. Mark’s assumptions overlook a lot of teams that could easily beat UGA. UT, Bama, Vandy, anyone? UGA’s losses tend to come from the teams they’re so “confident” they’re going to beat. For example, UT last year, and that was truly UGAly.

Our beloved Dawgs will play with heart this year but will come up short for the SEC title much less the NC. I predict 10 and 2 at best with losses to LSU in Death Valley and to Florida. Even without Perriloux, the Tigers will dominate on both sides of the line and will surprise everyone with the offense and the play of the quarterbacks. It’s going to be another good year for LSU. Mark it down.

Florida Fans: 48-37-4 12 SEC Championships to 7 Equal Consensus MNC’s, UGA has more Shared MNC’s Undefeated Season and National Champion-Georgia 2, Florida has never had an undefeated National Championship season. I’d also like to point out that the Great Tim Tebow is a fine player, but as a starting quarterback, he’s 1-4 against top 25 teams. Tim Tebow didn’t have anything to do with the fact that his line couldn’t block for crap or the fact that UF’s defense gave up 42 in regulation, and it could have been a lot more. This is also quite humorous commentary from a fanbase that saw no issue in the fact that Shockley didn’t play AT ALL in the 05 game. Either way should be a heck of game this year.

    Tech Fans:

Always remember that Tech was founded, funded, and chartered by UGA graduates. In fact it could be said that UGA is literally Tech’s foundational “Daddy”. That and Georgia has been whipping the Trade School’s football team for 100 years. UGA may or may not win the MNC, but make no mistake, it certainly won’t be because of the Jackets. Look for eight in a row this year and 19 years since Tech’s last legitimate NCAA recognized victory in this game.

Ten reasons why they won’t win the national championship:

  • They play in the SEC. Chances are if they lose 1 game, two teams will be undefeated and play. last year was a fluke.

  • Florida. (enough said)

  • Off field legal issues may distract the team.

  • They always seem to lose a game they should have won.

  • Big head syndrome. ASU will prove to be tougher than the Bulldogs think.

  • Having to beat a good team twice. Chances are they will play a SEC team twice. Hard to win both times.

  • Choking hazard. Will the Bulldogs “choke” under pressure.

  • Lack of depth? Yes, the tailbacks are covered. However; if the QB goes down, so does that national championship.

  • Defense…Defense…Defense… Wil the Dawgs have what is takes to stop high powered teams? Florida / UGA may be for the national championship.

  • 28 years.. 28 long years since the Bulldogs have even tasted a national championship. Will they end that drought? I don’t foresee any team from the SEC making it to the national championship game. Too many other teams play in “cupcake” conferences and can go undefeated. The BCS is not kind to the SEC at all in that regard.

  • I wish UGA the best, however; they have many issues and games ahead.

Sure, they beat a very over-rated Hawaii team in the Sugar Bowl, but all this yappin’ about winning it all? C’mon, UGLY’s chances are not that great because of a really tough schedule.

Same arguments - There are about ten teams in the nation with a legitimate chance to make the national championship game. Since similar arguments against them winning can be made regarding each of them. I’m thinking Florida (and Georgia, USC, Ohio State, LSU, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Missouri, etc) all have somewhere around a 90% of not winning the national championship.

You name a team, I’ll take the the field to win.

And before you say King, you better make sure he’s got the character to be a top D1 player before anointing him the next coming of Herschell (I have 47 different personalities) Walker. 2) Bush League son of Satan Mark Richt is now the most hated man in the SEC. How is uga going to handle teams hunting for them? 3) The only reason uga won against the Gators last year is because a certain trophy winner could hardly walk, much less play QB. Had TT been healthy, uga wouldn’t have been within 3 touchdowns of Florida or even sniffed a top 10 ranking. 4) Last and certainly not least, even though Son of Satan Richt has done an overall good job at uga by selling his soul to the devil, he is still good for one loss a year due to a stupid bonehead coaching move.

Tebow hurt is shoulder so bad that we couldn’t walk. Reminds me of the time a banged my thumb with a hammer. I had to eat soup for a week.

If Tebow was hurt so badly that he couldn’t play QB, yet he started anyway. Then either:

  • Urban is an idiot and his loyalty to Tebow cost the Gators a chance to win.

  • Florida has a real depth problem at QB and their backup is not as good as a Tebow who can barely walk. This should be a huge concern for a team whose QB is a large part of the running game.

Win the SEC East and the SEC Championship FIRST, then lets talk about a National Championship. By the way, 5 of those touchdowns in LSU’s 14 games came in overtime where the format favors easier touchdown conversion. Take care of your business in the East and in the SEC, get some luck along the way (you need it in the SEC as tough as it is) and beat the hell out of the PAC 10 and you can win the BCS. Go SEC (the best football in the nation by far).

For the record, I’m a Tennessee fan. And I remember all too well a couple of years ago when the preseason talk was about how great we were gonna be that upcoming season. And then…. we couldn’t even muster a record worthy of going to a bowl game.

Its gonna be fun to watch the same thing happen this year, but have it be the Dawgs and not the Vols.

Why just last year the Dawgs were planning an easy victory in ol’ Knoxville and left town with their tail plum clipped off. Now that was something to bark about. Or perhaps less of a bark and more of a plaintive wail.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mark Richt and his coaching staff. During their tenure the Bulldogs have accomplished just about every goal except a BCS Championship! I also believe coach Richt is better now than he’s ever been. He has shown his miscues regarding clock management are behind him. The bulldogs are definetely loaded with talent, but will fall short of the BCS championship for one reason. It is not due to a difficult schedule everybody in the SEC has the same problem. I believe Florida schedule with non conference games against FSU, Miami, Hawaii could be tougher. No their downfall be be due to the Bad Karma created during their endzone dance so hallowed by the faithful. Although, the celebration put some vigor back into the dormant rivalry, I believe it will provide the Gators with enough motivation to reclaim the Gator Bowl.

Dream on GA fans. The so-called uncrowned champion of last college football season lost to South Carolina who could also have beaten the Rainbow Warriors.

LSU losing twice and making it to the BCS championship game is all nice and true, but that’s only half the equation: other contending teams all choked also. You can’t expect GA to get to the big game with one or two loss unless other premier teams around the nation also choke at the precisely the right times.

BCS champs with two loss on the record… Not gonna happen two years in a row.

Premier teams choking at the end of the year… Not likely to happen.

The above two happening exactly the way it happened last year… Uh, however “no.”

If you want the title next year, run the table. The fact you UGA fans are already pointing at some key games and already making excuses for losses makes it crystal clear that UGA is not yet ready for Prime Time.

You can say whatever you like but Spurrier has a good team going into this season.

They return practically the entire team that defeated UGA in Athens last year.

Yes, UGA might get the victory but to think it will be easy is delusional at best.

South Carolina might have the best defense in the SEC this year.

I know people think that since Spurrier hasn’t got it rolling in his first three years at USC that it will never happen.

I think that’s exactly what the man wants you to think.

The Gamecocks will be the surprise team in the SEC this year and UGA will not make it out of Columbia with a W IMO.

There’s 5 BCS Bowl Games, and we already know that you can be undifeated and you still might not go to the one that’s going to decide the championship. As a matter of fact, one of the last teams that went undifeated and still didn’t get to play for a championship was in the SEC. (AUBURN) So how in the hell can you predict why Georgia will win the BCS when you can’t play all 5 BCS games, and you can’t win your way to the one, so called BCS game that decides a champion. Instead you have to get voted to play in it. That’s like voting who gets to play in the Super Bowl, and all the rest of the great teams that made it to the playoffs, get paired up to play a one game post season scrimmage.

If Georgia wins anything, it would be a travesty. Every Spring and Summer, someone gets arrested, sits out the first 2 powder puff games, and become all conference. Odell Thurman is the perfect example, what did Georgia do for him? He played, went to a junior college, came back (still got into trouble), was all world, drafted in the 2nd round, and is now out of football. Maybe if he had redshirted and been punished appropriately when he committed offenses, he might still be employed today.

All of this is coming from a Univ. of Miami fan. Go ahead and remind me of the 80’s and 90’s when Miami was tthe so-called Bad Boys of college football, then look up the graduation rate during those times and count the number of offenses against the law. Images on the field didn’t tell the real story. I’ll bet everything that I owned that, the number of offenses committed by players from Miami over the last 28 years is less than the number of offenses that Georgia has had over that same period.

One more reason they won’t win it all, a HEALTHY TEBOW!

I don’t know why all you haters are whining so much… at least you’ll be entertained, most likely disappointed, each week when you tune in to prime time television to watch our Bulldawgs play. Its a fairly simple breakdown for the season… 1st two games= warm ups

cocks= please. they used their surprise win last year. Agreed. Spurrier will not win another game against UGA- maybe the SEC.

ASU= can someone say Boise St. ‘05; OK ST last year? Every year I hear this. And every year ESPN’s talking heads respect UGA and the SEC even more.

Alabama= tough game. Getting 3 points b/c we’re at home

UT= you have certainly earned every bit of our respect but you will lose because we have a bye week going into this one. sorry- we turn the tables this year.

    Vandy= homecoming

LSU= toss up. they’re getting 3 points due to being at home

Florida= Hard fought game but Tebow is scared of UGA… Fumbled his freshman year, looked horrible in last year’s loss and confessed to B Colt at Hesiman Ceremony that UGA was the toughest D he played all year. He’ll put in a gutsy performance but all the propaganda in the world won’t help the Gaytors overcome their shortcomings on D. Deal w/ it. after this years game the gaytors will be living in the past and Urban Cryer will have lost his luster.

    Kentucky= win

Auburn= Always a tough game. Not this year.

Jackets= Are they fielding a team this year? I’ve heard they’re going to take a year off so they can put their mickey mouse offense together. They’d better schedule GSU this year so they can actually win a game.

-So after breaking it down, even with one loss (LSU maybe) we’re going to the SEC CG. Its a playoff from there… Win or go home. One thing’s for sure… I’m going to love every minute of it and even if it doesn’t happen this year, you can bet that I’ll be saying on this blog, ‘wait til next year!’

All I have to say is an undefeated USC and and undefeated WVU will play before a 12-1 UGA team for the NC. Despite UGA will play tougher and better teams, the undefeated will be given the chance. The PAC-10 and Big East aren’t exactly full of talented teams. You can have a bad game and still win. Have a bad game in the SEC and you WILL lose, no matter who you are playing. The SEC teams beat each other up every weekend and suffer in the bowls for it. Did Auburn get the nod when they won all their games? Given LSU really should not have been able to go last year. But they won when needed. Plenty of teams had thier chance, but loss. In college it is better to lose early than late.

Won’t know if the Dawgs can win the BCS champ until they take the field. I think its better to focus on one game at a time beginning with GA Southern. UGA, the players, and the coaches have never said a word about winning the BCS. The fans and the media say this stuff then the Dawg bashers ridicule the players and coaches- doesn’t make sense.

The Gator fans that talk about Tebow not being able to walk last season during our game; I thought it was his shoulder that was the prob not his legs…Also, the fact that he may have been hampered that game doesn’t have anything to do with the Gator D giving up 42 points.

Who knows if the Dawgs will win the BCS this year but they sure have the talent and the coaching to. I’m glad we get to play the games on the field and not in the news or on paper.

Even a surprise loss to Ga Southern could happen. It is stupid and arrogant to say any SEC team will take the crown now. That is why we are the SEC - pre-season jitters and excitement, surprise wins, games won in the last few seconds and a surprise team of the year. My Gamecocks will be better this year and don’t discredit Ole Miss. The SEC is special b/c anything can happen! Fun months ahead. Spurrier, give us a show this fall! Love ya!

He’ll be lucky to get through the season with his head still attached to his shoulders. And speaking of shoulders, don’t be surprised to see Tebow with more boo boos this fall. 1) UGA will lose to Auburn and Florida. Bradley claims that the UF series is “streaky” and UGA now knows they can beat UF. Really? Then why did UGA fail to win the next UF game after their two previous victories over Florida?

    2) Matthew Stafford is a lousy QB. Even Bradley admits that “Stafford is a better QB when he throws less”. Well said, Bradley! UGA’s best chance is to put Stafford on the bench and put in a running QB who can hand off to Moreno.

I think if UGA is going to win a title their highly thought of QB will have to complete more than 55% of his passes. If this were a GT QB we would hear how terrible he is.
Keep trying Mark and you can get your entire body up UGA’s back side instead of just your head.

Hey exNFLplayer, yes I know that NFL scouts are excited about Stafford. It’s not the first time they’ve gotten all excited about a player who disappointed EVERYONE after the scouts cashed their checks. A 55% completion rate with lots of pick-offs won’t cut it in the NFL. Stafford stinks!

You’ve had seven players arrested… when’s the last time a college team has had that many mug shots and even been close to championship of any kind. Then you have a MURDEROUS schedule. Don’t get me wrong you’ll be good this year but don’t get mad when your #2 in the SEC again this year. Florida will have an advantage like it or not with playing Kentucky at home the week before -J-ville where yall have to go to Baton Rouge which will be a grudefest, then come to Florida. Is it just me or am I the only person that feels that the BCS title isn’t a real title at all. If you don’t have a playoff to determine which team is the best then any title is null and void IMO.It would be like Muhammed Ali claiming to be the greastest if he won some vacated title and never had to fight Joe Frazier or George Foreman.

Super Bowls, World Series, NBA and NCAA baskeball championships, the Masters, Wimbleton etc. are REAL championships. Athetes earn them instead of computers or lobbying to the media like some corrupt politician.UGA doesn’t need to worry about winning a National title, because the National Title in College football is nothing more than a sham. They just need to go out there and win as many games as they possibily can and if the media wants to crown them national champs then so be it.

By Scott, people like you love hating on the Dawgs. I do not have to convince you that the dawgs will win it all, That is why they play the games. I have been waiting on a year like this for a long time. This is a year that we have a real shot at the BCS. We have the privilege to be highly ranked before the beginning of the season and you know that helps in the long run. We do not have to worry about a bunch a teams having to lose for us to get our chance. Also, if we do stumble during the season we will not fall far so we will still be in the hunt. Plus, we finished last year number 2 or 3 in most polls. We have almost everyone returning. You haters can kick rocks, UGA, BCS Champs. My team have a chance an I am happy. I hate it for the rest of you, HATERS.

Mark my brother from another mother, i with you on this one. Don’t let them haters get to you. 5 and 11 for the Falcons. I hope your right. I love Coach Smith and Van Gorder. If we win more than 4 games it will be because of great coaching. I think we will have that from those 2.

I want to believe the media hype and saw a team start to gel from mid season on last year but to go undefeated with the schedule the Dawgs have?? It’s hard enough to do in the SEC moreless with a couple of out of conference games that will be tough to add to the in conference schedule. The upside, starting high in the polls makes it a lot easier to stay near the top in the event of a loss. I’d rather lose a game early as number 1 than number 12. Number 1 drops to 4 or 5, lose at #11 or 13 you can drop out of the top twenty!

No one in the Dawgs nation is afraid of LSU. We have played and beat them in recent years in the SEC championship. They were lucky that they played the Vols instead of us this past season for the SEC title. If not we would have been looking to win our consecutive SEC and National titles, believe that. I am not going to cry over spilled milk from last year, we should have taken care of business against the Gamecocks and the Vols. What you people saw last year after the close win against Vandy was young team that grew up. We took a couple of bad loses Staffords freshman year so it would pay dividends in the long run, now its time to get paid. You haters keep harping on the fact that Stafford completes about 55 percent of his passes. He is a young QB. He is getting better, not to mention the drops that made his completion rate lower than what it should have been. Plus, with a running game like ours, man, we do not need a QB to throw for 300 yards. Now, you gator fans. Teabow plays terrible against UGA. He played terrible against us his freshman year, he had a couple of turnovers against us. The senior QB lead them to victory, not Teabow. You know who won last year. It was not a fluke. Teabow is scared of those rabid dogs. That team speed on defense gives him hell. To all you GT fans, may the force be with you, no way you win games in a major conference running the wishbone, brokenbone, trple option or whatever you want to call it. Paul Johnson can have them line up in the Spread, West Coast, or Run and Shot formation and he will still run the ball 90 percent of the time. You all cannot win in a major conference like that I am sorry you should have hire Chris Hatcher. GA Southern with screaming Willie Beamon (Antonio Hinton) at QB will be better than GT and will give UGA a better game than GT.

    Holla at you… Haters.

Bigeasy, when was the last time UGA played LSU? Not during the recent championship runs.

People who do not give Stafford credit are not intelligent. He has all the intangibles and is better than his numbers show.

Tebow is not scared of UGA. Meyer tends to rely too much on what he know works. That is why Tebow got injured last year. I really hope that we don’t see a repeat of him running up the gut 10 times per game!

Thank you Mark Bradley for proving that AJC stands for The Atlanta Journal Constipation. Should we even play the 08/09 Season? It has been a blast reading some of these blogs. Most of you have proven my point from other blogs about most of the UGA fans being arrogant and think it is your God given right to have the National Title just handed to you. For that 5% who realize the games are yet to be played and there is a lot that has to fall in to place, Sorry but you get lumped in with the rest of your moronic friends.

Here are the potential losses: 1-ASU at ASU, Yes, they (ASU) will be ready and it should be a good game. Advantage UGA as they play 2 high school teams and South Carolina before they go to Arizona. This could actually hurt them though. Could be licking some wounds from that game in Columbia.

2- LSU at LSU: LSU is almost unbeatable at Death Valley. Right now the game time is showing TBA, so you had better pray that the game is not at night.

3- TN at UGA: Probably won’t happen, but I can always hope. Besides UGA has a history of not showing up for this one. And yes National Champions NEVER play flat! You also get 2 weeks to get ready for the game, just like the Florida game last year. Hmmmm, I wonder if that anything to do with last year’s win?

4- Bama at Athens: Just back from ASU and you have a BAMA team that will be ready. Only upside is that the game is in Athens.

5- Florida : You don’t get 2 weeks to get ready for this one and you just played LSU at Baton Rouge. Florida’s whole season right now will be based on making sure what happened last year does not happen this year. They also have UK the week before. Can you say rebuilding year for UK? Game over by halftime and starters rest 2nd half because UGA is next. UGA will not have that luxury being in Baton Rouge the week before.

5- Auburn at Auburn: 4th road game in a row!!! Need I say more? Past history says visiting team usually wins. Not this time!

The scheduling gods have not been kind to the Trembling Chihuahuas from Athens. Quite frankly it is about time. UGA will have to win the SEC East. 8-0 or 7-1 will win the east, not 6-2 like last year. Comparing the schedules, only UF and I hate to say it has a realistic chance of doing that. The only potentially tough game they have is LSU in Gainesville and LSU will have 2 weeks to get ready for that game. Take out the TN game and say the dogs get thrown a bone in Columbia- they are still a potential 3 loss SEC team. No SEC championship game, No trip to Miami. Throw in a loss to ASU and you have 4 losses and your off to the Music City Bowl or the Chik-Fil-A Bowl. This is a real possibility and the reason Richt is telling everyone to cool down with the National Title talk. How about this one? The season becomes a train wreck and you lose all of those games including South Carolina, you will have 7 losses, to 5 wins, no bowl and numerous suicides. Look what happen to UT in 2005!

The Bull Puppies look good “ON PAPER”. If they pull it off, then kudos to Richt and his coaches and the title will be well deserved. Mr. Bradley needs to do a little more homework before he declares the Mongrels of Athens National Champions.

By the way, UGA only has 2 overall titles dating back to 1934. Those dates are 1942 and 1980. 1946 is debateable as the title actually went to Notre Dame by the Associated Press.

The team I saw play GT was sloppy, didn’t execute well and was lucky to have won. A better team than Tech (Tech was average at best last season) would have eaten UGA’s lunch on that day. GT was in that game far longer than it should have been, given that it was also sloppy, didn’t execute well and had a unimaginative game plan. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Tech shoulda, coulda, woulda won if …(some bad luck hadn’t happened), I’m saying, as poorly as Tech played, a team that considered itself a national contender should have hammered them. It didn’t happen.

Then UGA beat a one-diminsional Hawaii team playing well above it’s head in the bowl game. UGA executed better in that game and Hawaii was never in the game, but it would have been interesting to see UGA play a quality opponent in their bowl.

I’m definetly not an idiot nor a GT fan. — Born, raised and educated in Baton Rouge. Just happen to live in the great metro ATL now and subscribe to the AJC. This is not a UGA message board nor even an Athens paper. I have every right to state my opinion as any one else especially since MB so often likes to mention LSU (5x’s in this article). Unlike you, I have shown not hatred nor “anger”.

By GATORZONE, we lost to LSU in 03 for the SEC title 34-13. We beat them in 05 for the SEC title 34-14. We are not afraid of LSU. LSU must take care of their QB situation after losing Perriloux. He was talented but oh so flawed personality wise, to put it nicely. You are also right that Teabow runs the ball to much, but, thats the Offensive system he is in. Urban Meyer has his QB’s running the ball alot out of that spread Offense. That is why I believe Teabow will go pro after this season. He cannot keep taking those hits. It is gonna hurt his draft status. By Plainspeak, Teabow has had a great career, no doubt about it. But, the senior QB lead them to the national title not Teabow. Teabow made plays for that team but, the senior QB (Leaks) won it for you. I like that Nuff said, good comeback. But, sounds like you two are not drinking GATORADE, It taste more like HATERADE.

Plainspeak Nice how you perpetuate the hype about Tebow. Let’s examine further: 1: NI - yes, and that was as a backup freshman QB. Others carried the load. 2: Heisman Winner - yes, and that was at the expense of the team. The Gators were pathetic during his “great” year. He can win the Heisman twice more before starring in the Arena League for all I care. The Gators will NOT be king of the hill as long as he continues to call his own number. Selfish!

By UNBIASED OPINION FROM A TECH GRAD

    July 14, 2008 3:45 PM | Link to this

OK! Im going to give an unbiased opinion from a fan who hates UGA more than anyone.

1)That assumption is correct. If LSU was preseason ranked any lower, they would have had less of chance to win the NC.

2)This is true also, but thier schedule will also hinder them from winning a NC. They play S. Carolina and ASU back to back. Then they also play LSU and UF back to back. And what if they go through the regular season undefeated or with one loss… They still will have to beat the SEC west champion and beat USC for the NC. And USC is one of the few teams in the nation with better talent then UGA.

3)This is true. But it also can be the other way around. UGA could beat LSU and Auburn, but lose to one of them in the SEC Chamionship game. And we know that it is rare for a team who cant win its own conference to win the NC.

4)I disagree with this one. They only beat them one time. And the schedule works out in UF’s favor. Keep in mind that its UF who has the bye week before the game this year. And now they have running backs who can cause damage. And they have a lot more motivation for the game after last year.

5)Somewhat true. USC Trojans runnning back is pretty awesome. And Beenie Wells is a GROWN MAN who is extremely fast! I wont say Knowshon is the best, but he is one of the best.

6)Now I know Stafford has a lot of potential, but he still hasnt shown me anything. I havent seen him have a miraculous game yet. I think he has great potential, but he isnt a great leader to me. And his lack of leadership skills might hinder the whole dawg nation championship dreams. And if you have to think about this one, compare his leadership skills to Vince Young and Matt Lienart.

    7)I agree.

8)I’ll agree with this too. Only if you guys arent playing Tennessee. Actually, now that I think about it, if you guys do win the NC… you need to send Duke a ‘Thank you’ card

9)I dont know too much about him.

10)Now you’re just searching for reasons. This has nothing to do with nothing.

Overall, I think you guys have a decent chance. The odds are not in your favor though. You guys are going to get EVERYONES best shot. And with all these away games, I dont think you’ll pull it off. With a schedule that you guys have had for the past several years, YES. With this schedule, NO. And to throw another wild card into the mix… you guys have to deal with a Paul Johnson team that will have a pretty good grasp of the Option Offense by November!

Mark, You silly, silly writer. Until Atlanta actually gets a professional football team, we do not need to talk about the Falcan’ts going 5 and 11.

You fail to mention anything about the difficulty of UGA’s schedule, not just the teams, but the locations. You bring up a good point about being ranked 1 or 2 at the beginning of the season. They have to stay there. They won’t be if they have 2 or 3 losses by the time they limp into Jordan Hare Stadium. It also depends on who they lose to. Just like last year, they kept a decent ranking by either losing early (Carolina) or losing to a ranked team (Tennessee fairly high at the time if I recall). That is the only reason Neutered Mutts of Athens were even close. Hoever, the pollsters got it right when they saw that UGA finsihed 3rd in the SEC, did not qualify for the SEC championship and had fewer wins than LSU.

If you are going to say the Toy Poodles of Athens are going to win it all, then back it up with a logical argument. I mean really, One win over Florida and the streak is broken? Win won for the dead dog? That will be their excuse for not winning it all. You also have made virtually no mention of the intangibles and how it will take some luck to pull it off? Who will be UGA’s Appy State this season. Beware the team that has nothing to gain by losing except a big paycheck for their school.

Plainspeak - You’re right. Let’s stick to the facts. Tebow was on a NC team. He was the backup QB. I guess your fourth team TE could also make the claim to have won a NC. Fast forward, with the mighty Tebow as a starter - yes, in his memorable Heisman year - the team finishes 9-4 and 5-3 in the SEC. Blown out by Michigan in a bowl game. You can keep the future Arena Bowl MVP.

Mark what happened to the Cat’s last year. I picked you all as my dark horse. After the SC game you all just stopped believing you could win. By Gatorzone, LSU won the title last year, thats great, but they are not feared by every team in the SEC. We do not care if we play them or not. If its regular season or SEC title game. We do not care. The title should be won on the field instead of polls of popular opinion. I actually hate the BCS. Wish there was a play-off. My opinion which is not much but, I believe the best two teams did not play for the title last year. Ohio State played in a very weak Big Ten and LSU, well they deserved it but they barely squeaked in, USC was just as good. But it is what it is. I won’t be happy unless there is at least an eight team play-off system. We can debate on what team is the best forever, but sometimes a lost in the regular season make a team better. There is no question on who is the NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA basketball champs, they settle it on the court or field. At the end of the season we will know who has the best team in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, WAC and etc.. But, there will still be debate on who has the best team in the nation. BCS sucks, but money talks and bull$@# walks. I hate the system, but I will pull for my team to win in that system.

Volunteer Fans Are Bitter???? Where did that come from? We had better than expected season last year. We certainly were not picked to go to the SEC championship game. In fact I think we were picked to finish 3rd in the east behind Florida and UGA. Bitter, I don’t think so! In fact, we were 2 bad plays from a huge upset, going to the Sugar Bowl and almost putting the undeserving Bow Wows from the cesspool that is Athens in the title game. That might have caused some bitterness.

Hey Bigreasy830: It does not matter what age or what situation you are in. If you are recruited to play for a high profile team and accept to go there, then you accept the responsibility of having to live at a higher standard because you will always be under the microscope on and off the field. And yes at that age, you CAN run around with your pants ZIPPED and OUT of BARS and still have as much fun. You are the person that I warn my daughters not to be around.

red and black: Interesting observations: Ok the USC game in Columbia: Spurrier always has something up his sleeve for UGA. Games lately have not been blow outs and this time the game is in Columbia. You should win, but the ball has to bounce your way all night. ASU: They were 10-3 last year and at one point 8-0. Hmmm, seems like they are a pretty good team and their coach has a national title to his name at Miami. Florida: Their weakness is in the secondary and not at receiver or rb. In fact they look fairly solid at rb. All games with Florida will basically be track meets with high scores. You are dreaming if you think that Florida is going to fire Urban Legend Meyer. Spurrier will retire before he goes back to UF. LSU/ARK: it took 3 overtimes for that game and yes a blind squirrel does find a nut every now and then. I guess I should have said virtually unbeatable and then you would not have taken my words so literally. Pray the game is not at night. The last time the lost at night was 2005 when Tennessee rallied from 21 down at half to win. You do actually have a valid point with QB issue at LSU. However, they are loaded with speed on both sides of the ball and speed kills. Keep under estimating Alabama and you will walk out of Sanford Stadium wondering what just happened. The Arizona State game is late and you will not get back until late on Sunday. No direct flights from Athens to Tiempe and back that I know of. You will lose almost a day of game preparation. Don’t really care about the GT game as it won’t factor in to anything and you guys get 2 weeks to get ready for the game after potentially losing to AU.

Hmmmm GA/LSU had 2 losses. You had 10 wins and LSU had 11. You watched the SEC Championship and LSU played in it. You watched the SEC Championship and LSU won it! Tell me again why GA and LSU each had 2 losses factors into anything.

BigEasy830: Go back and read your comments about being young and your pants unzipped and going into bars. Then stop with the holier than thou stuff. I too have sinned, admit and ask for forgiveness and have recieved that forgiveness. You make it sound as though it is okay to at a young age to run amok with your pants down and going into bars. And yes, I do not want my daughters around someone who thinks that is all okay. My point has nothing to do with judging someone, but rather that if you are going to sign on to a big program, expect to have every move scrutinized by everyone. That means keep the pants zipped and out of the bars. The Georgia players have a lot of work to do to dispell the idea that they are all juvenile delinquents. This is Richt,s one weakness in his program.

By the way we all judge as it is human nature to do so. You have already judged me to be inferior to you. Guess what, I pay my bills and taxes, and support my children. I did not serve my country as I am medically ineligible to serve because I have Diabetes. I guess that makes you better than me. Guess what everyone is judging everyone in these blogs and it is all based on our love of SEC football. For example red and black does not like me because I am a Vol fan yet he knows nothing about me. Me again. Sorry I keep looking at this, but I guess that’s the point, right, Mr. Bradley?

    Hey, Tool Shed:

I wouldn’t call anyone “miniture brain-ed” and spell the word “miniature” incorrectly. It just makes your ill-conceived point that much more nebulous and indecipherable (I know you don’t know what those big words mean, but I don’t have time to explain them. Look ‘em up, if someone isn’t using the outhouse dictionary). And, BTW, my point that Georgia’s SEC East record in 2006 has no bearing on its chances in 2008 stands to reason because this is a completely different team. What that has to do with the talent gap between the Dawgs and the Gamecocks is a mystery to anyone but you.

And to “No Fun in Cola Town,” I’m certain that Spurrier deliberately lost all of those games at the end of last year just to set the Dawgs up for a fall this year. “Lie down, defense!” he said before the Arkansas game. “We’re gonna give up 500+ yards rushing to set Georgia up for next year!” In fact, he has orchestrated the last 115 years of mediocre Gamecock football just to get to the nasty little surprise he has cooked up for us in Columbia this season.

Uh, huh. I’m certain that everyone outside of Columbia believes that one.

Spurrier died as a football legend when he left Gainesville. What you guys are stuck with now is merely his animated corpse. And it’s beginning to stink.

I had no idea you did not serve in the military and it does not matter the reason. I choose to serve for my own personal reason and do not think less of any man who did not. You turned it into all about you. Sounds like you have more than just issues with the UGA Bulldogs but, so do I. See I am old enough to know we all do. I get on these blogs just to have a little fun, many of you turn it into something so personal. At the end of the season, if UGA does not win a game, I will be disappointed, but I know I still have to go to work, pay my mortgage and the rest of my bills, have enough money for cloths and food for my wife and my daughter. I have been reading some of these ridiculous posts (mostly by morons) who want to somehow try to diminish the fact that UGA will be fielding the best team in NCAA football since the 1995 Nebraska team. As some of you numb-skulled douche-bags might recall, Nebraska absolutely whipped the ever-loving dog feces out of a much-hyped UF ‘croc’ team (62 - 24) coached by Stephanie Spurrier. It will be the same this year for UGA as they have all of the talent, speed, coaching and desire to be the 2008 champs. Have any of you seen Knowshon Moreno run? Do you not realize that he will be backed up by Caleb King? Have you ever heard of A.J. Green? Tavererres King? If not, you will by the end of September. The Dawgs will rule this year and will surprise the entire nation in a one-sided victory for the MNC. Remember the Sugar Bowl against a much-hyped Island team in January? I thought so. Let’s see….what was that score? Please…one of you douch bags help me out here. Gee…..what was it???

I sure hope that you will be atending the game there in Chicken Town, SC this fall. I sort of doubt it since you are likely behind in your payments for your lavish double-wide home. There will be many, many penalties committed during the game and Stephanie Spermier will be throwing his/her little tennis visor regularly. UGA blanks your yard birds 34 - 0, clown.

And to the SC fans who also blight our blog, we will beat you by at least 10. UT - not going to be a good year for you either. Auburn and Alabama will be good - not great. LSU - a good team but with less guts than last year’s smashmouth squad. KY & Vandy - Last year was your last chance for awhile. Nothing for you, sorry. GT - well, same as usual and who cares anyway.

If I were you (perish the thought) I’d go out to Wal-Mart (very near your trailer park) and get a case of tissues as you’ll need them after the game when UGA whips the black hen $hit out of your beloved crocs - again. Picking UGA is as good as conjecture as any….Unfortunatley the schedule is brutal and couple of missteps this year might not be allowable to make it to the BCS NC Game as the winner of the USC vs OSU game has a cupcake schedule and will probalbly lock up on the slots in the BCS Game…..Should be a great year of football in the SEC and the winner should be automatically put in the BCS NC Game…..UGA…win the East and then make your case in Atlanta….against the Tigers (take you pick on which one).

Funny how todays article about the pound puppies of Athens are ranked as low as #9 in some polls. And before you UGA fans say they are ranked number one, that is only in Lindy’s and The Sporting News. I really do not think they count in the big picture. Actually neither do the other ones come to think of it.

Oh well, It is interesting that these prognosticators are pointing to 4 games that will be trouble for the mutts. USC, LSU, Florida, Auburn. I pointed out 3 of those games with the USC game being a possible pot hole the over confident bull puppies. They get paid for this and I don’t. What’s up with that?

    Dear UGA fans,

Bring on the Bulldogs! We know they stand no chance of winning a National Title, but hey bring them on anyway. You should be happy you were in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, because we know you wanted no piece of the best program in the nation which displayed our dominance in Pasadena. Look at what we do to the overrated SEC each and every time we play an over-hyped SEC team. Auburn in 02-03 ring a bell? How about Arkansas in 05-06? You know that Arkansas team that played for an SEC Championship in 2006. You know we only humiliated them back-to-back years starting in 2005 with the 70-17 rout. But hey they came oh so close in that 2006 SEC West Championship year when we beat them a modest 50-14.

But hey UGA fans keep up the hype and hopeful wishes, because we know when the dust settles the true champion is sitting here in L.A. laughing….

We are the last “Dynasty” in college football, and we will be back on top where we belong once again. I’ll wish ya’ll all the luck, because I know we won’t be seeing you in Miami for the BCS National Championship game. But oh we would love to get another easy win over the so called “mighty” SEC.

Jason: We all knew that it would not be long before some panty waste liberal from the communist state known as Kalifornia would chime in.

The only valid point you have is about the 05-06 SoCal team. There certainly was noone who could touch them and they might have even made the playoffs in the NFL. The rest of what you say is meaningless drivel. You don’t have anyone the calibre of Leinert or Bush. Some may be close, but not on that level. They would not have lost to lowly Stanford. That’s like Michigan losing to Appy State.

Besides you play in the PAC-10. Usually dominated by one or two teams. There is never any real clear favorite in the SEC. Three teams right now or vying for the top spot. LSU, Florida and the Pound Puppies of Athens. Get some parity out there in LALA Land. Come spend a sesaon in the SEC and see if you are not black and blue by the end of the season.

SmyrnaDawg: If you line up 100 Toy Poodle fans from Athens, 95 of them will be just like GADawg. The rest of them might be like you. It is unfortunate that you have to be put in the same lowly class as them, but that is the nature of the game. And yes the majority of the UGA fans are 1) Whiners and Crybabies over last year. 2) Think that the title should be theirs with out playing for it.

Mark Bradley: Most of us on here would love to have a battle of wits with you, but most of us don’t like fighting unarmed men. Dawgman: Did the pound puppie man get his feelings hurt? Nowhere did jgator3 say anything about Tebow. He did infer that Florida was not at full strength like they were for the Tennessee game. Let’s face facts, that late in the season, everyone is hurting. The Bull puppies had 2 weeks to get ready so you were at full strength for that game. You won’t be this year without some sort of miracle and all the moons being in alignment. You will only have 5 days to get ready and you will be black and blue from the LSU game.

Now if the gaytor nation wants to get on here and whine about Tebow being hurt so be it and they will get equal treatment. I can not stand Florida, and I used to be able to tolerate UGA, but after last year and the whinning and this year with the all out arrogance to think that the title is yours, I actually push the Chihuahuas of Athens ahead of the Crocs from (Gay)nesville.

Now for reality - the SEC would have allowed UGA to go play your beloved Trojans (how appropriate for someone like you, a trojan is a cover for a prick) but the cowardly Rose Bowl powers decided to bring in a patsy so USC could win big. Illinois and Hawaii should never have been in a BCS game, but check out the final scores. Almost identical point spreads. I would not attempt to forecast who would have won, but surely UGA-USC would have been a better matchup. Even a moron like you should agree to that. Get real!

    VolStuckNGA,

Hey Vol fan, tell me how your SEC East Champs did against 7-6, 3-6 Pac-10 Cal last year? Let me remind you, it was a cake walk win for Cal 45-31. Nice defense you play over there with those hideous orange uniforms though! I mean isn’t that what the SEC is supposed to be known for? Defense? Could have fooled me…..

What’s your excuse going to be when you lose to UCLA Labor Day night? haha

Also, to give you a heads up, I’m far from a liberal. Born & raised in Georgia, headed to L.A. for 5 years to enjoy the life of Southern California, and a great school in USC. Can’t stand liberals, which was the biggest knock living out there. But hey way to jump the gun! Try not stereotyping next time…..

Back to the main subject from your rant….Maybe just maybe Tennessee can reach the level USC is currently on. Oh wait, no they can’t they have a worthless coach who continues to sink the program yet was just recently given a contract extension!? Wow….

Say what you want about USC, but there isn’t one starter I’d take from Tennessee over the 5 stars across the board Pete trots out on the 2 deep every week. Envy eats you up, I know……

Nice try with the Stanford comment, this coming from a fan of a program who lost to a Vandy program that hasn’t had a winning season or a Bowl game since my early childhood. Wow, even MTSU can beat Vandy! haha

Face it, the only thing Tennessee is useful for, is the possibility that they will actually upset UGA. Other then that, go back to sending kids to Chair Stacking 101. Hey I hear Gerald Riggs & the flop known as the J-Train are still having problems getting a passing grade in that class….But I know the 9th time is the charm….haha

Enjoy 8-4, 7-5 with a loss to UCLA!

Jason: You really need to get out of the sun as it has baked your brain!!

I guess we watched 2 different Cal/UT games last year as it certainly was not a cake walk. In fact it was more like a track meet as both teams ran up and down the field. The difference was 2 plays, a kick off return and an interception, take those away and its a tie game. Both happened in the first half too. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda. Not a cake walk. Moron.

Losing to Vandy is just like you guys losing to Stanford. You should not have lost that game as good as you supposedly were last year. When we lost to Vandy, we sucked. It was a horrible year for us. Hell we didn’t even go to a bowl game. Our losing to Vandy did not affect us one bit except we did not get to go to a bowl. We certainly were not ranked. I believe SoCal was ranked pretty high when they lost to lowly Stanford.

As far as this season is concerned, I will be happy with 7-5 or 8-4. We are not a good team, new QB, New OC. Our defense should be better as it has matured some from last year, but Jerod Mayo will be tough to replace and yes he easily would have started for Pete Carrol.

It must be tough being a conservative out in Kalifornia with all the communists. I hate it for you.

So Fulmer is worthless? Hmmm, he is one of the top 5 active winningest coaches and he is worthless. Really what makes him so worthless. A .750 winning percentage over the last 16 years? A National Title in 1998, when they were not predicted to win it afterall was T-Martin really going to replace the great Peyton Manning? Maybe it is his recruiting. I will give you that one as I do think we suck at recruiting. Then again, we have to compete with UGAy, Gamecooks, Gaytors, and Pink Elephants from Tuscalosea. Hmmmm who does USC compete with? Not much right now! So really what makes Fatty Phil so worthless? Now you are acting like a Pound Puppy from Athens. Don’t sink to that level.

Hmmmm Chair Stacking 101. Is that the same as Underwater Basketweaving that is a pre-requesite class at SoCal? Do you really think that Tennessee is the only school with Academically challenged atheletes? Gerald Riggs JR was and is a waste of talent. He thought his name could make him like his daddy and he fell flat on his face. We still have Foster and Hardesty. Too bad Coker could not get his act together, he was a good back.

The UCLA game is not a lock for either team. UCLA has a new coach and we have a new OC.

Okay you can go put your red and gold pom poms and skirt back on and go back to drinking your wine coolers or spritzers or whatever the hell you west coast pansies drink.

    Jason:

So someone beat someone who beat someone else. This could go on forever. It’s sort of like that “seven degrees of Kevin Bacon” game—you can always find a key loss to refute almost any team’s notions of superiority.

For example, Georgia Southern beat App State, who beat Michigan, who beat Notre Dame, who beat Stanford, who beat Southern Cal. So is Georgia Southern better than Southern Cal? Uhh, no.

I don’t think there is anyone alive who can refute Southern Cal’s rich football history, or what Pete Carroll has done there over the last several years. But I fail to see the point in coming on a Georgia blog to try to tout Southern Cal’s football prowess at Georgia’s expense. The Stanford comment was simply intended to remind you that USC, despite being loaded with talent, is far from invincible (just like my Georgia team, by the way). Personally, I think that Georgia and Southern Cal at then end of the last season could have beaten anyone (including Ohio State and LSU), and likely would have been the last teams standing if college football had a single-elimination tournament like March Madness. But that’s not the way the game is played. College football is about the whole season, and the two most deserving teams played at the end (and LSU, the most deserving team, won).

This Blog is all about opinions. I don’t mind anyone’s opinions as long as they are reasonable and well-thought-out. To denigrate the entire SEC, which is inarguably the strongest conference in college football right now, on the basis of a couple of prior Southern Cal wins over a second-tier SEC team like Arkansas is not a well-thought-out position. Georgia has never lost to Notre Dame. Southern Cal has lost to them a bunch. Does that mean that Georgia has more football tradition than Southern Cal? Of course not.

Use logic when it can work. But don’t resort to B.S. when it doesn’t.

Heeldawg. Well put. Jason is a trojan, and a trojan is a shield for a prick, so make the connection.

I, too, am looking forward to this season. No smack talk, no guarantees, just genuine excitement about the possibilities that could lie ahead. Fans not excited about their OWN team is an indication there’s not much to be excited about. Their relief is posting trash on this site.

HeelDawg: You were doing great until you had to say the Flea Bites of Athens are invincible this year. I know you really do not mean that. Nobody is invincible. Otherwise your comments are great and it is nice to finally talk to someone with some sense.

By Chief: I would love to think we are loaded, but we really are not. We are good a running back. Crompton has only had real playing time in about 8 games. He did look good in the Spring Game, but we are talking 2nd string defense. Defense should be fairly strong, better than last year. We are weak at receiver. That hurt us last year. This is the residual effect of Randy Sanders:

UT Press Conference(The year before Cutcliffe returns to UT)

Press: Randy you seem loaded at receiver this year, do you plan on opening up the offense with those recivers?

Randy: Great question!! We sure are by running the ball!

Press: You are going to run the ball with all that speed at reciever?

Randy: Well see everyone thinks that sense we have speed at receiver, we’re going to throw down field, but the jokes on them were going to run the ball?

Press: Won’t that make you predictable? Everyone will be stacking 8 and 9 on the line to stop the run.

Randy: Well see that’s where the recivers come into play.

    Press: How so?

    Randy: Extra run blockers!

Randy Sanders was probably one of the biggest morons at OC in the century. He wasted a lot of great talent and helped put us in a recruiting rut.

We could not get the big recievers, because all we did was run the ball. Explains a lot about 2005 season. I hope this new guy will open it up. I do not know much about him except he comes from University of Richmond and made the D2 playoffs a couple of times under him.

Do we once again have to suffer with the preseason bull about Ohio St while the SEC tears each other apart.Regardless UGA UF UT Maybe Vandy all would have beaten Ohio in BCS championship, not to mention all the talk of how undeafeated Hawaii was going to just put up huge numbers against the Dawgs in the Sugar.Well how did that turn out? Not to Good! Uga finishes at #2 last year and I agree with Bradley that we could have a great shot at BCS championship if we see the Dawgs take some chances this year and let it all hang out out.Come on Dawgs take no prisoners and lets see how much crow these negative posters can eat. WOOF WOOF WOOF !!!!!!!!

Hey, VolStuckNGa: Sorry—you misinterpreted my comment. I said that USC is “far from invincible, just like my Georgia team.” The implication was not that Georgia was invincible, but that Georgia, like Southern Cal, has a lot of talent but is NOT invincible. So you and I are actually in agreement. No college football team is invincible. It’s why college football is so great—you’ve got to line it up and play the game.

I guess I could have worded that more clearly. My apologies.

I feel bad for you and those who actually have some common sense about this upcoming season, who get put in the same group of moronic fans like “Vols are Idiots” or “Red and Black”.

I do not envy UGA one bit and the schedule they face this year. If they pull it off, then good for them and good for the SEC.

Hey Vols Are Idiots: So this blog is limited to only UGA people? I did not see that one when I signed in. Must be in the fine print. I mean, really, I did not go through a screening process and declare my allegiance to UGA. I’d rather throw up. Besides how boring would this blog be if it were only blog from the Poodles of Athens? Don’t hear you saying anything about the LSU people or the moron in Southern Kalifornia or the busy bees in downtown Atl.

So it is okay for you to come on here and insult me, and our team? Seems to me you can’t take the heat in the kitchen. I could care less if you insult me or the Vols. Hell, it is half the fun of being on these blogs. The majority of you trembling chihuahua’s are just way too sensitive. By the way, I have not insulted your team or your coach. Georgia is loaded with talent, but they have a nightmare schedule. I have a lot of respect for Mark Richt and think he is one hell of a coach. I think he has behavior problems with his players that are not being properly addressed.

I expect to be bashed when I get on here. You should expect it too! If you don’t then don’t get on here. Read all of the blogs, then jump in.

I agree with you its people like those dumb@ss that make the dog nation look so stupid to the rest of the SEC. I am an LSU fan and tried getting into a national championship debate with RED AND BLACK and those so called 5 NC that UGA has according to him. Its funny that even the NCAA doesn’t show any where that UGA has 5. Yeah thier website claims one in 1942 but according to the NCAA Ohio State won the NC in 1942. The only thing that he/she/it can do is run his/her/it’s mouth and being ranked since the 1920’s. I mean really is that the best you can come up with. Well since you like to look a who own’s the series in a match. LSU leads the series with UGA. So VolStuckNGA let morons like those dumb@ss get on here and run thier mouth about going undefeated this year and we can sit back and laugh our @sses off when they fall from grace just like every UGA season since 1980 (their one and only national champisonship).

Purple and Gold: Careful, you are on a UGA blog and you might not be allowed to speak. HAHAHA!

Great points! Did not know about that one in 1942. Maybe it was like in 1990 and UGA had a fifth down or something. Who knows and Who Cares?

The funny thing is that hardly any of them want to come on here and trade smak. It is half the fun. They all get so defensive. I mean most of them do, about 95%.

Here is their Mantra: 1- We were screwed in 2007! 2- Just give us the title in 2008, because we were screwed in 2007!

Kudos to the scheduling gods! I guarantee you the LSU/ Pound Puppy game will be at night! Is it not true that LSU has only lost 14 or 15 times in their history at Death Valley at night?

What’s LSU’s QB situation now that Perriloux is gone?

    By purple and gold

    July 16, 2008 3:07 PM | Link to this

    VolStuckNGA

Haha good point. Its a few more times than 14 or 15 but LSU’s winning % at night in Death Valley is above .750% which is pretty dang good.

Thw QB situation on the bayou is not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. We have Jarrett Lee who was a 5 star prospect coming out of high school and will do great things before he leaves LSU. Will need this year to get an understanding of what playing in the SEC is like and we will lose some games this year b/c of it, but no real reason to lose one’s head. We will still make it to a bowl game this year and in ‘09 will be ready for another shot at all.

It is nice to be able to have someone with an IQ of more that 10 to talk too (even if it is Vols fan haha).

It’s all good! Lighten up Pound Puppy Nation! If you don’t and the minute you lose, it will be like dragging lambs to the slaughter. You have a giant bullseye on your back and everyone will be putting in one extra lick everytime they hit you. Better to fly in under the radar. Hell even Georgia Southern is gunning for you. Hmmmm, Next Appy State? Best not look past them.

Someone commented that LSU has only lost 14-15 home games at night in their history. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I can think of at least two times that Georgia’s won at LSU at night - ‘78 and ‘98. ‘78 was memorable because Georgia came from behind after Lindsay Scott took the second half kickoff 99 yards, and ‘98 was memorable because Quincy Carter actually lived up to his hype that night. I think the LSU playing at home at night thing is more myth than reality.

2 games 20 years apart. Again, a blind squirrel will occasionally find a nut. Just like UT did in 2005 at night at LSU.

The overall point of the LSU at night comment is that UGA was not dealt a very good hand when it came to the schedule. LSU is tough to beat in Death Valley and even tougher at night.

VolStuck, I pine for the days of Reggie Ball. Two things that still make me laugh. In his last game against UGA (another rancid performance) the GA student section (behind his bench) began chanting “4 more years…4 more years”. Hilarious. Then, someone doctored a picture of the four “GA legends”. It’s a pic of the 4 players who have had their jerseys retired. Someone superimposed a picture of Reggie Ball with the group. Priceless!!

VolStuck, Die Hard is one of the one’s I was talkin about. There’s so much hate between our schools that it’s hard to control it for some of the “higher educated tech fans”. Yes, there are great tech fans on here, like Carolina Jacket, but mostly just the other tech younguns that have no clue about adamant fandom for your particular program. Now, giving them credit, they defend their program by calling all us dawgs dumb, toothless rednecks who live in trailers. We call Florida fans mullet, jean short wearin trailer trash livin rednecks, and I won’t even get into what these idiots call Bama fans. Truth is, probably most of these teenage idiots live in Dunwoody and have no clue about life. To clump a state, fan base, or social group into some twisted societal club is ludicrous. Zeb: You are right on so mny fronts. I was alittle rough on Die Hard, but when you think about it, that pitch looked like a beach ball asking to be knocked out of the park.

I would love to be on here and talk about my views, hear the views of others, talk a little smak, shake hands and move on.

I really wish we could seperate the good guys such as yourself from the bad guys. Even though I am a Vol fan, I too have an opinion about the upcoming season and just because I am not a Bulldog fan does not mean I do not know what I am talking about.

The biggest problem is we can not seperate. It would be nice if we could tell all of those who want to name call and act like they have been drinking all nite go to one site, and those of us who want to talk football and express our views with out them being dumped on go to another site. I used to go to the UGA/TN game and got booed like you would not believe. Even had things thrown at me. But by the end of the game, I had more UGA fans come up to me than I could count and tell me what a class act I was and how I conducted myself during the game as a true fan of the game.

The fact of the matter is wheter you are agood fan or a bad fan, everyone gets lumped in as a fan of their team good or bad. Guilt by association I think is what it is called.

Red and Black: Really give it a rest as that is not my line of thinking. In fact it is more of the line of the majority of UGA fans to justify their cries of we got screwed. Your line of thinking only justifies a playoff system for D1 and scrap this crap called the BCS. It will never happen until someone figures out how to make the money come out the same or better with a playoff involved. Most of the information I have put up has been verified so I don’t look completely stupid. If I am wrong on something, then I will admit it.

I come on to these blogs to have alittle fun, talk a little smak, talk a lot of football. I want to talkj to people like Ed, Zeb, and By Chief. I really do not want to talk to you, Red and Black, as you suck all the fun out of blogging. (Sorry Zeb!)

I did not say that because LSU had one more win, they were a better team. I said that LSU got to play for the National Title Because they won the SEC Championship which gave them one more win. Ohio State was fortunate enough to get their one loss to Illinois early enough to not affect their ability to recover in the polls and again they won their conference title. This is how the pollsters put it together. Why the majority of UGA people do not understand this is beyond me.

Had UGA been fortunate enough to go to the SEC title game, then they would have had their shot at LSU. Who is to say who would have won. Georgia was not all that impressive in their win the week earlier over GT. Both teams were coming in on 7 cylnders and not 8. LSU got lucky on 2 plays to win 21-14. Otherwise, TN wins and all of Georgia is now Tennessee’s new best friend.

    Hey there Zeb

Don’t think signatures will get the game moved to 9am. That doesn’t LSU fans enough time to get hammered before the game. But the LSU/UGA game will be a game to watch. Should be fun either way.

    RED and BLACK

God way don’t you just give it up. You sound like a dumb@ss with your nonsense. Ark did not be up two years in a row. In ‘06 they had already locked up the SECW and we went into Little Rock and won 31-26. This year was the first year for them to beat us since 2002. Please get your facts straight. Also when we lost to Ken. they were ranked inside the top 20. When UGA got blasted by UT they weren’t even ranked. Please don’t make comparisons to what team beat another. By that thinking LSU would have beat UGA in the SECCG. By the way Red and Black you forgot the fries in my Big Mac meal last time. Don’t let it happen again.

    VolStuck

I am still a just a little bitter about your win in ‘05. I mean how do you give up a 21pt lead like that but at least we gotchya in Knoxville. Never been to a game up there in Neyland and have always wanted to go. Been to both games against UT in the SECCG and most UT fans are a lot of fun. By the way don’t argue with Red and Black you will have a better chance at putting your head through a brick wall. Also Red and Black never did explain where those 5 mytical national championships came from did he.

Purple and Gold: Yeah I saw that game on replay on CSS the other night. Lately they have been showing a bunch of UT losses. I think a UGA fan is doing the programming.

I understand the Pound Puppies vitriole. Think about it Tennessee beat them in the regular season which helped keep them from the SEC Championship game. The they had to root for the men in orange to win against LSU in order to play for the Title. What a roller coaster! The number of orders for anti-depressants hit an all time high in Georgia the week after that game.

By the way, If the game were at 9 AM, LSU fans would find a way to get hammered before the game. It’s called an all-nighter. The purple and gold face paint might look a little worn, but they would still be hammered.

Be nice to Red and Black. He can’t help it that he is the way he is. Just another product of government schools.

Very good point about the all-nighter I pulled a few last football season. I don’t know I think its an Aubarn fan with the game they showed last night. But anyway I will be nice to Red and Black when he makes some since about the 5 national championships he keeps crowing about. Or if any other UGA can enlighten me I would be happy to listen, I have just been wondering because I can’t find any record of them having 5. I can only find the 1 in 1980.

I guess if some fans start talking real facts and figures the lunatic fringe called UGA fans go and hide behind what thing they can make up. Oh-well I guess it hard for them to play second fiddle to the really truely great teams in this fine leauge we call the SEC.

Hope to see ya in the ATL in December.

Purple and Gold: You are killing me!!!! You can go to a site called secsportsfan.com/sec-football-history and it lists out the dates of supposed NCs. It lists UGA with 2, 1942 (?) and 1980. There are some great facts on this site.

Most of them do go into hiding when you prove them wrong or call them out on their facts. And who let the little girl on here who hearts CMR. She must be the Georgia grad with mating call “I’m so drunk!” Someone tell her to put something on here with substance or don’t come on here.

Nice predictions, Georgia fans are so delusional. In reality Georgia’s football program will always be just a top 15 program which will never go over the 80% mark in winning percentage. Georgia is not an elite powerhouse and will never be one.
