A good cup ‘o mental health

From the New York Times:

“Drinking coffee may do more than just keep you awake. A new study suggests an intriguing potential link to mental health later in life, as well.

A team of Swedish and Danish researchers tracked coffee consumption in a group of 1,409 middle-age men and women for an average of 21 years. During that time, 61 participants developed dementia, 48 with Alzheimer’s disease.

After controlling for numerous socioeconomic and health factors, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure, the scientists found that the subjects who had reported drinking three to five cups of coffee daily were 65 percent less likely to have developed dementia, compared with those who drank two cups or less. People who drank more than five cups a day also were at reduced risk of dementia, the researchers said, but there were not enough people in this group to draw statistically significant conclusions.”

So excuse me while I enjoy a cup or two of mental health. I think some of you out there ought to take up the habit too — you know, to ward off dementia.

But it’s clearly too late for some of you.

From the Washington Post:

Soon after the November election, al-Qaeda’s No. 2 leader took stock of America’s new president-elect and dismissed him with an insulting epithet. “A house Negro,” Ayman al-Zawahiri said.

That was just a warm-up. In the weeks since, the terrorist group has unleashed a stream of verbal tirades against Barack Obama, each more venomous than the last. Obama has been called a “hypocrite,” a “killer” of innocents, an “enemy of Muslims.” He was even blamed for the Israeli military assault on Gaza, which began and ended before he took office.

“He kills your brothers and sisters in Gaza mercilessly and without affection,” an al-Qaeda spokesman declared in a grainy Internet video this month.

The torrent of hateful words is part of what terrorism experts now believe is a deliberate, even desperate, propaganda campaign against a president who appears to have gotten under al-Qaeda’s skin. The departure of George W. Bush deprived al-Qaeda of a polarizing American leader who reliably drove recruits and donations to the terrorist group.

It look like Al Qaeda is as big a bunch of liars as Bookman’s RightWingnuts.

Good morning, Jay. Regarding the study you cite, one must remember that these are average results for the entire population under study and that there is a distribution about a mean as well as a few that are just way out there. Well, us godly Republicans drink plenty of coffee but there’s one thing these researchers missed: grits. It’s the grits that let us come up with ideas like Trickle Down. Not to mention we know good and well that if you shovel the tax breaks to the rich, well, they’re the ones that can make the big campaign donations. A reglar person will just waste a tax break on stuff like food and clothes.

Anyhow, I see our GA Republicans are against this Obama stimulation plan. It’s the coffee and grits. They are smart enough to see if Obama pulls off a good plan, well, he’ll get credit for it and the librul Democrats will get elected again. The plan would be OK if it was mostly tax cuts for the rich and run by Republicans. Then we’d have Trickle Down back on track.

Anyways, I’m going to get another cup of coffee and a big plate of grits. I hope my brain don’t grow so big I get a headache. Have a good sabbath, everybody.

I was reading some of the comments, coming from our illustrious Republican “elected” ones, this morning about Obama’s stimulus plan. As usual, all they did was whine about how the plan would do things like help people get better healthcare and education instead of giving their rich buddies more tax breaks. Nothing new there — just more of the same failed lack of thinking that got us here in the first place. On a brighter note, these Republicans can at least be thankful that their continued losses in Congress give them even more reason to work to further perfect that whine. Dang. They ARE getting good at it.

Let’s leave the historic prospective where it belongs, in history. How long are we going to celebrate the fact that we have the first black president? As long as we seem to be walking back and forth over Edmund Pettus Bridge?…. and that was 40yrs ago.
The policies of this Chicago hack will ruin this country, now, and for years to come. Just figure out some special interest group to pander to…. then make them feel that government is the only answer to all of their problems…. get their vote… then throw them aside. It has happened for the last 40 yrs in this country with liberal democrats and it has not changed…. not one bit. And these “special people” are just too stupid to realize it. We have thrown billions at this but the poverty remains the same, the same number of people get pregnant out of wedlock, an increased number of them occupy our prisons, more are single mothers, which contributes to delinquency, crime, drugs, school dropouts and lack of moral standards. The image is still one of gold chains, sloppy pants, gun culture, rap “music” and rebellion. You can read about the latest shooting or some girlfriend being beaten to death on a pretty regular basis in the AJC. Keep at it Demos, it has given you what you want but has it helped your voter base to become better Americans? Not on your life.

Most encouraging.

As it is the Talibaptist Sabbath today, here’s some red meat for the flat-earth gang:

Their numbers have more than doubled in a decade, to nearly 30 million. Organized as a religious denomination, they would trail only Roman Catholics and Baptists in members.

Have you ever seen a coffee drinker, while drinking, rush around like crazy? I never have. The ones I am around are always meditatively drinking their coffee. Lookie! Fox news is writing in the LA Times.

Bush residents struggle to balance the need for food with the need for fuel — the building blocks of survival in a frigid winter that has months to go. Some call for massive airlifts of aid.

It’s actually a fairly tragic story of how a once self reliant group of people have become helpless slaves to the government, although the writer doesn’t notice that part.

Another thing that jumps out at you is the high price of fuel because it couldn’t be brought in by barge due to the early onset of winter. Global warming seems to have slipped the author’s mind in writing this piece as well.

Feingold Saying No To Clustef*cked Senate Appointment Processes with New Bill

No moh of them Appointment Debacles Says Russ

Feingold to Introduce Constitutional Amendment Ending Gubernatorial Appointments to Senate Vacancies

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, issued the following statement today on plans to introduce an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to end appointments to the Senate by state governors and require special elections in the event of a Senate seat vacancy.

The controversies surrounding some of the recent gubernatorial appointments to vacant Senate seats make it painfully clear that such appointments are an anachronism that must end. In 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution gave the citizens of this country the power to finally elect their senators. They should have the same power in the case of unexpected mid term vacancies, so that the Senate is as responsive as possible to the will of the people. I plan to introduce a constitutional amendment this week to require special elections when a Senate seat is vacant, as the Constitution mandates for the House, and as my own state of Wisconsin already requires by statute. As the Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee, I will hold a hearing on this important topic soon.

Let’s Recap Week One.

Geithner sociopathically refused to pay his back taxes when he was morally obligated and the statute of limitations had run out on the first two years where he sociopathically didn’t pay the nanny tax. What population of individuals has nannys? The affluent. And 95% of them never pay the nanny tax because there is no way to enforce it.

Geithner seems to be one of the top contenders to fix the clusterf*ck caused mainly by three components Graham, Mr. Andrea Mitchell (Greenspan) and the self serving irresponsible American People.

Limpballs and Kennedy are equally irrelevant. Paterson’s appointment will flip flop her NRA stance.

Neither of them has a grip on foreign or domestic affairs or will impact the outcome. Anyone who mentions them in conjunction with national affairs is as goofy as Palin. It must be Andy.

Paterson could have gotten Coumo out of the way who is sure to beat him in the next election for Governor if Coumo doesn’t run in the already crowded 2010 contest for Senator of New York with Representative Carolyn McCarthy.

Blago won’t even be indicted until Spring or Fall and a lot of excellent attorneys say he has a good chance of not being convicted. The dimwit MSM doesn’t get much right these days.

There’s no now as to Afghanistan, China, India, Pakistan, or the Arab world. They had eight years to mobilize opinions against the US, and Obama is in office for five days. Try counting your fingers Andy.

Anyone worried about the rights of unborn babies should find a parking place for the 450 thousand plus embryos that are going to be discarded soon as they are every year in this country.

Obama has not yet reversed Bush’s stem cell funding executive order, but he has said he will.

The FDA has approved the first embryonic stem cell project for cord damaged individuals in the ten years embryonic stem cell research began.

Andy would quickly change perspective when and if he were admitted as a quad to Shepherd Spinal Center.

The Supreme Court made the law on abortions that is currently in effect many years ago when Obama was eleven years of age.

It’s a shame that the most prolific poster here is lacking in basic history skills.

The increasingly insulting and personal language being use by AQ against Pres Obama - their speechwriters have it easy. Sounds strikingly similar to what the farfarleft said about Pres Bush for years -

I love AQ’s angst. Goes to show you how different others see us as to how we see ourselves. Many looked at Obama and caught a few snippets of what he said and extrapolated he’d be “sympathetic” or ‘maybe more in our favor.”

Reality check: Obama’s not only an American, he’s the leader. It’s America’s national interests that are at stake, not worrying about whether or not someone ‘likes’ us.

Thank heavens the campaign’s over -
