Israel wants to end war; Hamas refuses

“With only four days remaining until the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama - a date widely regarded by Israeli analysts as the cut-off date for Israel’s Operation Cast Lead against Hamas in Gaza, the prospects for a mutually agreed ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist terror group seemed slimmer than earlier in the week,” the Jerusalem Post reports.

However, with Hamas refusing to make concessions, Israel finds itself in the strange position of trying to end the war unilaterally, meaning Hamas will still be free to fire rockets into Israel (15 rockets were reported fired into Israel from Gaza on Friday). Under those conditions, it’s hard to call this a victory for the IDF.

According to Haaretz:

“The cabinet will hold a vote on Saturday evening to decide whether to enact a unilateral cease-fire with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The decision would mean Israel has put an end to the three-week-long Operation Cast Lead without an agreement with Hamas, relying instead on the support of the United States and Egypt in battling arms smuggling into Gaza.

A government source emphasized that there has been great progress with Egypt in reaching an agreement on fighting arms smuggling. The deal would require the combined use of technological measures on the border between Gaza and Egypt, operations against smugglers in the southern Gaza town of Rafah and the use of international experts to identify smuggling tunnels on the border.”

In an editorial, Haaretz endorses ending the war, and suggests that its length has been a mistake:

“Three weeks following the start of Operation Cast Lead, and at least one week too late - it should be brought to an immediate end

This is the time to put the operation aside…. More importantly, disease, poverty and unemployment are the fertilizer in the greenhouse that grows the desperation and the radicalism that brought Hamas to power. Israel is the one that will reap the hatred and fear that Operation Cast Lead will sow in the hearts of the children of Gaza. These are the neighbors with whom Israel will have to reach a peace agreement and live next to for generations to come.”

And so the cycle continues….

Pretty much, yeah. Shame the doddering fool right wingers here are too thick to know this, I guess, but plenty of Israelis do and that’s really what matters.

You are absolutely correct, next time or even perhaps before they withdrawal, they should kill every last person that even resembles Hamas, reduce the whole Gaza strip to rubble, mass relocate the remaining population out of rocket range and then mine the area so that if anyone enters, they will get blowed up.

This is the thanks Israel gets for showing remarkable restraint and working with the Egyptians, the libs parade around like their lovable little cut throats “defeated” Israel.

“What do we mean by the defeat of the enemy? Simply the destruction of his forces, whether by death, injury, or any other means — either completely or enough to make him stop fighting… . The complete or partial destruction of the enemy must be regarded as the sole object of all engagements… . Direct annihilation of the enemy’s forces must always be the dominant consideration.” You know who

And yes, the cycle will continue ….. until all is fulfilled.

I don’t know, maybe this is too complicated for you dimwit liberals.

Hamas has been broken, big time, and like Osama Has been Laden says, people follow the strong horse.

Now is the time to grind Hamas into the rubble, ridicule them for thinking that they could attack their mighty neighbor and NOT suffer a catastrophic defeat, as they damn well have.

Maybe they, and all the other savages out there, might think peace was probably a pretty good option, considering that martyrdom got them what, exactly?

Blowed away?

But no. Here we have some “peace loving” pinko out here EMBOLDENING the enemies of Israel into thinking they have won some sort of victory.

AmVet,

Talibaptist. Good one. Good post.

Well of course Israel wants to end the war and Hamas doesn’t. Hamas is in it for the death, what do they have to lose? With all the world stage drama they can muster. Hamas and other organizations obviously aren’t afraid to die and martyrdom is the only thing they’ve got to offer the rest of the Arab world. In case you haven’t notice, martyrdom kind of works for them.

As a matter of fact, allow me to “escalate” this conflict, there is some sniveling punk coward Hamas chieftain hiding safely away in a UN hospital right now, surrounded by all of his dead fighters and civilians that he and his wormy ilk have condemned to death, urging the survivors of this massacre to “fight on.”

And the left in America is echoing this loser.

Jay

Thank you for your diligence. It’s possible my light-hearted response last night may have been provocative (in response to his request to Bosch and me that we absent ourselves, I used that as a straight line to have fun and speculate to Bosch that PF is the Fifth Cylon). If so, I apologize - but still and all, he could have responded to me directly rather than going through the subterfuge of namejacking.

This thread: glad to see Israel got some form of international oversight and sensors to monitor tunnels - the main smuggling route for the rockets. The more international monitoring that’s done, the better.

Israel can score points with a unilateral cease-fire (Hamas wouldn’t agree). Or, they can phrase it in such a way that it encompasses Hamas conditions (pullback) then raise expectation that Hamas will negotiate in good faith to cease the rocket attacks. Hamas won’t, but as in poker, Israel will force Hamas to show’em.

You are correct - the cycle continues. Will anything break Hamas from the cycle? Doubtful - for an historical parallel look at the experience US forces had with the Japanese Imperial Army in the South Pacific in WWII. Japanese soldiers saw the Emperor as divine, had their Bushido code, considered it shameful to surrender (one reason they held Allied POWs in such contempt and brutalized them) and nearly all of them died rather than surrender. Same characteristics are evident in Hamas militants.

So Hamas won’t break the cycle. Can Israel do so and still protect her people? That’s the $24 question. @@ posted an interesting analysis from Stratfor the other day arguing Palestinians in Gaza are not the same as Palestinians in the West Bank - they have different objectives and the objectives of some Palestinians, particularly regarding the destruction of Israel and rejection of coexistence, are at odds with Arab states.

So the cycle of rocket attacks may be materially lessened with the blocks to smuggling. Hamas will come up with something else. And not to minimize the seriousness, but the visual illustrates the point well: Israel may not have many options other than engaging in “whack-a-mole” (a mole pops up, whack that one, then anther pops up elsewhere, whack that one, and on it goes with no lasting solution).

Did anyone besides Andy notice that Hamas was firing rockets at Israel? HAMAS FIRING ROCKETS AT ISRAEL! Does that not bother any of you libs?

Would you mind if Canada or Mexico suddenly starting firing rockets into the nearest towns in the USA? Would you sit around and say “C’est la vie!” Maybe you libs would do just that.

Even as Israel suggests peace talks Hamas is STILL firing rockets into Israel. So you crybabies still blame Israel. And STILL can’t understand why Iraq and Afghanistan prefer to be free.

It seems the concept of freedom eludes the frightened liberals in our country. They are so afraid of fighting they cannot appreciate that which they and others enjoy. Their philosphy has been reduced to the simple words of “cut’n’run”.

Maybe the Cylons created Man and wrote their mythological scriptures. Maybe it will come out that we are all some form of Cylon. I do not think it’s coincidental that there was a dramatic return after 2000 years - Rapture anyone (hmmm, Raptors, Rapture?).

Maybe it’s the writers way of giving us a concrete heaven - heaven is but a Resurrection Ship where we will have the possibility of eternal life through constantly downloading our consciousness - body is gone - but our life continues.

But wait, they blew the damn ship up now. Sigh. We’re doomed.

As I’ve said before, it’s more about the message than the myth and we should believe in ourselves instead of following some kind of mythological interpretation of who we should be.

Curly, do you honestly think I ever, even for one moment, thought over the past eighteen months or more, you didn’t read every single one of my posts? As much as you hate yourself for doing so, you, like your posse comode-tatis, cannot help it.

Thanks for playing and read on.

Of the three great(???) religions, Judaism is BY FAR the most innocuous, least obtrusive and dangerous.

The christofascists and the Islamoterrorists share much. Their mythologies have endless parallels and their zealots are often some of the most ignorant, hate-filled people on the planet.

The problem for humanity and the world, of course, is that both of these loon-filled camps want to “share” their mythology, by force or brainwashing, to the four corners of the world.

The Hebes have NO such desire. Either you’re born into it or your not. No big deal and virtually all MOT’s don’t really care, one way or the other.

But like the Gang of Allah, the Talibaptists and the papists have numerous oracles, many of whom are perverts, charlatans and Middle Ages fear mongers.

One of their darlings, Mannish Coulter comes to mind - “”We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity”.

And I can assure you, these slobbering christofascists lap that stuff up BIG time! And it is a human tragedy that such awful people put such a shameful and repulsive face on their religion.

The best part of that storyline so far, in my opinion, is when the Cylons found out that life would end forever the next time they died since their resurrection ship (or, at least the one that was within range) was destroyed. No “Life after Death” sort of takes the wind out of a lot of sails, don’t it.

I’ve been reading and hearing that there’s a split within Hamas, jay. Those fighting the battle within Gaza were receptive to a cease-fire. Nasrallah, residing in Syria was not. He appeared before a council of Gulf States reprimanding them for failing to support the Palestinian cause.

Cracks weaken a foundation.

If Obama’s willing to accept Al Qaeda prime (OBL) as defeated in its weakened state, why should Hamas be any different? I’ve also read that Israel sees Hamas as “the bait”. They (the Israelis) are out to fry the bigger fish.

Will it work? Time will tell.

Poor David Limbaugh (an Agnew-like skid mark on his bro’s excellently broadcasted bvd’s),

He just hates the fact that House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers issued a 500-page report, with an executive summary that itemized and documented the abuses that occurred during the Bush Administration.

The report recommends “that the new Administration conduct an independent criminal inquiry into whether laws were broken in connection with these activities.”

Perhaps had BushCo destroyed a few more emails, not so much of this corruption and deadly incompetence would have come to light. Then the most serially impeachable president in our history would truly be Teflon.

It is unconscionable and shameful that this spineless US Congress once again shirked its responsibility to the American people and never impeached the quasi-criminals with the anti-Midas touch. And I sense that the PE will not do a damned thing to alienate his money masters in the plutocracy, pursue any kind of economic justice or seek consequences for his predecessors.

Obama and the Dems know they have these clowns by the balls now. There are only two scenarios - the neoliths play along, cut back on the hyper-partisan rhetoric, forget their idiotic darling wedge issues, stop obfuscating and gridlocking and keep a low profile.

OR they can follow the Curly Doctrine. Become more entrenched, more uncompromising and more CONSERVATIVE!!!

But that would seem to ensure that the next Congress is 70% Democratic. And it may just be that for the Old White Guy party that is inevitable anyway…

(((Of the three great(???) religions, Judaism is BY FAR the most innocuous, least obtrusive and dangerous.)))

Well AmVet! We’ll just start calling you the new and !?!”improved”!?! version of Ghandi.

The holocaust was the result of the warped mind of an individual who was able to influence his followers into doing something dreadful. But, it seems to me the Jews today not only want the Germans to feel guilty but the whole world must regret what happened to the Jews. The world did feel sorry for the episode but when an individual or a nation refuses to forgive and move on the regret turns into anger… We have created a culture of violence (Israel and the Jews are the biggest players) and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity

(((Everything in that brief excerpt alone is untrue for the following reasons:)))

(((1. The Holocaust was not just Hitler and a few SS “followers”; rather, it involved millions of followers (some of whom were active, some of whom were passive) in a systematic and near successful genocide of an entire people.)))

(((Neither Hitler, nor Himmler, nor Goebbels, nor any of the Nazi hierarchy could have wrought what they did without millions of German non-party guards, railroad employees, informants, and clerks and bureaucrats in the industry of death. Tragically this complaisance did not happen over night, but ——>was prepped by years of National Socialist indoctrination<—— that systematically and incrementally whipped up centuries old anti-Semitism by blaming — take note here, Mr. Gandhi — “the Jews” as being the “biggest players” in the world’s violence and problems.)))

Read the whole piece…..it’s worth it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that those who buy into the liberal/socialist philosophy (the new Ghandis) are among the dumbest in the nation, if not the entire world.

Go back up to the third paragraph where the new and !?!IMPROVED!?! ghandi is quoted. Now…….apply his comment to the “Civil” Rights Movement within this country.

There is no question in my mind what the liberal’s “SOCIALIST” philosophy is all about.

You have been forewarned. It is a movement that relinquishes the individual’s power to government’s movements. The weak will succumb. The strong will not go down without a fight for the freedom of the individual, not the government.

And I don’t write with the intention of educating, though I think I do provide some relevant and interesting information, data, evidence and facts (the science haters loathe that stuff!) from time to time.

I am simply here to lend my voice to the chorus of Americans who are not only dismayed at what these imperious and dangerous men have wrought over the past eight years, we are outraged that the crooks and swindlers on Wall St, K Street and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will likely never come to justice.

And we are insistent that these frauds and incompetents never have another chance to wipe their collective arses with our US Constitution.

And Wooten is leaving on my birthday too.

Here’s why I think the AJC is opening this up to the general public.

HEADLINE GAZA (Reuters) - “Israel plans to halt its Gaza offensive without any deal with Hamas, an Israeli official said on Saturday, in an apparent effort to deny the Islamist group any gains from the three-week-old conflict.”

“Hamas leaders in exile have vowed to fight on, but many of the 1.5 million Palestinians enduring incessant bombardment and privation in Gaza seemed desperate for their ordeal to end.”

“The goal is to announce, subject to cabinet approval, a suspension of military activities because we believe our goals have been attained,” said the official, asking not to be named.”

……….. and I repeat, the cycle will continue (and even get worse) until all is fulfilled.

So I hate my own mother and my own people, Curlyette?

That is bizarre, even given your demented Republitoad writings.

And I thought it was you who hated us Christ-killers! BWA!

Besides deceiving a nation to go to war with the wrong country, totally botching the Katrina disaster and implementing a culture of corruption unmatched since Boss Hogg, BushCo’s environmental legacy is another of the numerous areas where the man was simply a train wreck.

Look at the following and note this was all done in the first year in office by the chief enviro-raper. And over the next seven, there are MANY more such examples.

Jan 2001 - President Bush appoints Gale Norton as Secretary of the Interior. Norton was formerly a senior attorney for the Mountain States Legal Foundation, a group funded by several leading mining, logging, and oil companies. This pattern of cronyism is repeated throughout the Bush presidency.

March 2001 - Bush makes his first attempt to roll back the “Roadless Rule” passed by President Clinton. This rollback would open up 58 million acres of national forest to logging, road building, and coal, oil and gas leasing.

March 2001 - The president reneges on a campaign promise to reduce CO2 emissions from power plants, claiming it would hurt the economy, while simultaneously declaring that CO2 would not be covered by the Clean Air Act.

March 2001 - President Bush suspends new health standards for arsenic in drinking water, leaving standards at 1942 levels.

May 2001 - Cheney’s infamous backroom, closed door National Energy Plan calling for the expediting of drilling on public lands, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the western Arctic.

Sept 2001 - After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the White House pressures the EPA to downplay concern about air quality around ground zero, even though 2,000 tons of asbestos and 424,000 tons of concrete were used to build the Twin Towers.

Dec. 2001 - The EPA reverses safety measures imposed in 1998 to prevent 15,000 children from being exposed to rat poison each year. (In 2005, NRDC wins a case in federal court to overturn this decision.)

Jan 2002 - The Bush administration proposes its Clear Skies plan for power plants. The plan would increase coal use by 79 million tons by 2020 and weaken the Clean Air Act.

Three more days…

So what? The dems weren’t interested in building on Carter’s initiatives over the last few decades?

I was watching something on CNN ??? last night. All the wind turbines lined up on the hills of California with no energy grid to carry the power into the major cities.

Know what’s stopping ‘em from doing so?

The environmentalists. Can’t go above ground, can’t go underground. Reasons? Scarring of the earth…..endangering wildlife, blah blah blah!

But HEY! the “windmills” were worth fighting for, right Sancho?

So if Isreal does stop fighting and the rockets continue, then what?

AMvet will blame it on Bush as to why Hamas is attacking Israel and others will say it is Israel’s fault.

Terrorist win whenever you allow your actions to be controlled by fear and or terror of retaliation.

Some of you are nuts asking Israel to stop the fighting because it may anger some Muslim extremist. Why?

If that is the case it is some of you same people that post mean and awful insults about christian extremist. So why then is it OK for you all to say bad things about Christians who have done you no bodily harm. But it is wrong for Israel to defend itself against one who wants them ALL dead not hurt but DEAD.

Boy the hypocrisy of some people’s morals and convictions is disturbing at best and terrifying at other times.

Who needs the Republicans when the democrats are the ones being Conservative?

{{{{He’s one of the leaders of a gang of moderate Democrats called the Blue Dogs. They’re meeting their first Democratic president in a while, and Mr. Cooper may have a big effect on the agenda. He smiles gently and says, “If we were to ally with the Republicans, we could swing any vote in the House of Representatives.”}}}}

{{{{Indeed, the way the Blue Dogs flex their muscle may become one of the defining issues of the Obama administration’s opening months. If they are inclined to wrangle with Nancy Pelosi and the more liberal contingent in the Democratic Party, they will drive policy, especially as a check on spending. “Ideally the White House will see things our way, so they will present legislation on the Hill that we find acceptable,” Mr. Cooper says. “If they stray too much from that or if a certain part of Congress strays too much from that, then we may have to object.”}}}}

{{{{A great thing about Mr. Obama’s plan, he says, is the tax cuts. “I think stimulus can come in a variety of forms, but I think the key message is Democrats are not for tax increases. Democrats can be for tax cuts when appropriate, when needed, when targeted. -WSJ}}}}

Well, I see Jim Wooten is leaving, and ever since the job got advertized in the AJC the missus has been on my case for me to apply for it. Him and me see the world in the same way—the redneck way—and seeing as how I’m such a good writter, I would probly fit in pretty good.

But I told the missus I wouldn’t do it unless some people were banned from the blog. I mentioned Sister Dusty and this AJC Commie and Raghead, but there’s others too. Like this smart-aleck @@ and RW. They are good conservatives, but they’re like a bad case of the piles to have to deal with.

Anyhow, for now I guess I’ll stick with hauling beer for the drunks. Have a good day everybody. I hope you are stocked up on bread and milk and PBR and other stuff you need to make it thru bad weather.

Jay,

The Ottoman Warrior was just enjoying some entertainment with the wanna-be Crusaders. That’s all. We were just reminiscing over the good old times. The times when warriors rode steeds onto the field of battle instead of mounting chairs and stools for a bout with virtual reality. Honest. Just ask anyone. Well, not anyone. Don’t ask Dusty. But, anyone else. Well, don’t ask Corporal. Anyone else though. Except maybe Andy. But that’s all except for maybe a few others. But, they don’t count anyway. They are not proud and noble warriors. They do not understand what the Ottoman has endured all these years. The Ottoman were once a great force to be reckoned with and now these Crusaders have reduced the Ottoman to nothing more than a foot-rest. This is shameful for we are not all Turkeys. We are much more.

Redneck, I’d love it if you were the next Wooten! Your stuff is great and perfectly exemplifies the difference between the witty and funny vs. the buffoonery of “conservative” writing.

tcoach, where the hell have you been? You are now officially a member of the Gang of Five and a Half. (That Dusty child doesn’t count as a whole person).

You predictable dumas, I think the Hebes are right to kill those murderous b@st@rds when they screw with them. Since the 1930s all they’ve done is try to kill Jews and keep them from turning that sh!thole of a desert into an oasis.

i know this “new” information doesn’t quite jibe with @@ the Confused’s imbecilic assessment of me being anti-Semitic, nor your quaint lack of cognitive skills.

The difference between me and you Mannish Coulter fans is that I don’t have to hate every last Mooslim man, woman and child to love my own people.

What next? Dusters joining in and telling everyone for the 17th time how I’m such a huge Obama fan.

And duhng, is that discussion inside my own head now officially in yours?

VERY nice, @@! A Don Quixote reference! I knew it. Though an overwhelming percentage of you are, not every RepubliCON is a card carrying member of the cultural illiterati.

And I don’t for one moment believe your mom was Golda Meir!

If so, it would be near impossible to explain why you are such a boring bible-thumper and ordinary blogging loser.

Wooten? That hack yellow journalist. The only people who will miss that snooze-fest are his favorite brown noser Dusty and a few assorted wackos, crackers and Suxtobeus/Ollie North fans.

GHT, yeah once in a while I can come up with something funny and ofttimes it really p!sses off these puritans.
