Obama-mania … kinda strange, really

I’ve been up in Washington, DC, on business. Obama’s picture is everywhere: in store windows, on lightposts, on the fare ticket for the Metro subway system. The city’s gearing up for an absurd number of people — 2.5 million people expected for Tuesday, half million for a Sunday concert on the mall.

I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this, and I’m not just talking about the inaugural crowd. The outsized expectations, celebrity, etc….

I don’t know how to account for it: The thirst for effective leadership after eight years of Bush multiplied by Obama’s status as the first black president multiplied yet again by Obama’s own considerable personal gifts multiplied by anxiety about the future equals … something very strange, and not entirely healthy.

I mentioned this in the dead thread, but… isn’t this kind of hoopla to be expected? You’ve got millions of visitors converging, and presumably thousands of people — from small-time T-shirt hawkers to high-end hotels and restaurants — looking to make a buck.

I imagine it’ll get pretty intense between now and Tuesday. I’m a little surprised Jay’s out there quite so early, but here’s hoping he can enjoy himself and not fret so much about the “unhealthiness” of it all.

No one thought Al Gore would be a loveable president, but, after eight years in the White House, he has gotten truly tiresome.

The droning voice, the purchase of an eco-friendly robot dog, the campaign for carbon-free diamonds - all these things were hard to take, and he has been way too smug about reversing global warming. I think we’ve gone too far in the opposite direction, especially in light of the glacier that recently crushed Wasilla.

I think I started to dislike Gore when he stirred up a media storm after the Feds broke up the terrorist ring conspiring to fly airplanes into buildings back in 2001. He could have let it pass quietly, as Bill Clinton did with the millennium plot arrests in 2000.

Instead, Gore held a press conference to milk it for political gain and scare us into a 15 cent per gallon gas tax. But who can afford to pay over a dollar and a half per gallon? No wonder we’re resorting to electric cars these days.

To be sure, Gore did accomplish some good things in foreign policy. The Middle East is definitely better off now that Israel and Palestine are separate states. It was clever to transfer the most diehard West Bank settlers to the Gore Biosphere in North Dakota. But in Iraq, even after the demise of Saddam from virulent salmonella, Qusay has proved to be no more agreeable than his father, and Uday is simply out of control. (Grinding up the players of the national football team and roasting the remains on a stadium-sized spit was the nadir of his coaching.)

When a group of foreign-policy luminaries - from Bill Kristol to Paul Wolfowitz and Kenneth Pollack - urged Gore to invade Iraq and remake the entire Middle East, the president didn’t even listen. That’s rude.

Of course, the biggest disappointment was Gore’s failure to handle Hurricane Katrina properly. Not only did the massive evacuation of New Orleans prove a costly and time-consuming overreaction, since the levees - fortified in 2003 - held up fine. The emergency management agency also took over 24 hours to set up trailers for evacuees along the Gulf Coast, leaving them without government housing assistance for a full day.

And Gore’s decision to single-handedly venture into a flattened house in Mississippi and free a trapped two-year-old showed him to be an irresponsible showboat. Sure, President Gore knows CPR, hears like a German shepherd, and has the strength of 10 men - but we didn’t need to see it.

Mrs. G you are correct the depression started under the democrats majority in congress with Barny Frank…I see no end to it even with your messiah Obama.

I can not wait to hear your excuses when Obama has to lean to the right to get things done or he will fail.

The popularity of Obama comes from the biased media and the wacho left. Just as they demonized Palin they lauded Obama.

People liked him because the biased media picked him as the one to like—kinda like rearing your kids to have the same political affiliation as you.

You call it “kinda strange” - I call it bonkers. A “thirst for effective leadership” after Bush has nothing to do with it. Lots of us were quenched for effective and moral leadership after Clinton but didn’t treat the president-elect like the newest Hollywood celebrity or American Idol. Says something about the mentality of those who elected their messiah. They’re going to be disappointed that he isn’t divine, though I expect to see none of them express it, and he himself may be surprised to discover he is neither king nor god. The media - including Mr. Bookman - whipped up as much celebrity worship as anyone else; it’s pitiful that they would treat such an important office this way. Obama, as the newest celebrity in a celebrity-mad world, was elected primarily on the basis of skin color; the mania is due to the fact that he is the first “black” president, not because he is someone who can do anything worthwhile. The maniacs who voted for him knew nothing of his ideology nor even his running mate, just his skin color, and that was enough for them. Unfortunately it isn’t enough to wield the effective presidential baton and we are in for a world of trouble from this “idol.”

I’m going to let that stupidity sink in. Savor it, won’t you?

Meanwhile, BeeJay, here’s a little exercise. Go over to pollingreport.com’s “Issues” page, linked here.

Try to find me more than, say, one of the issues listed here where McCain, or any other likely Republican presidential nominee, holds positions that are reflective of a majority of Americans. I’d be really curious to see what you think those are. You don’t have to use pollingreport.com’s list; any other issues-oriented polling is fine.

And then ask yourself why Americans wouldn’t have voted for Obama, or for Clinton, or for any of the other Democratic candidates who were capable of securing the nomination?

Republicans have won national office in spite of their positions, not because of them. Sooner or later the public won’t vote against their own interest. Did you really think they would?

Jay, I think you hit the simplest explanation for Obamamania with your statement, “The thirst for effective leadership after eight years of Bush…” The sad truth is, most Americans are so stressed and exhausted after 8 years of Bush II (a time period in which we went from having the world’s goodwill to being the world’s pariah), we’re looking for respite wherever it can be found. Obama never promised us an immediate rose garden, and anyone who voted for him on that premise just wasn’t paying attention. At this point, people would be glad to see anybody else BUT Dubya in the White House. Having the rest of the world ratchet down its contempt for us a notch or two (even if it turns out to be only temporary) is just a bonus.

A decade of Republican rule has brought us a major terror attack, scare tactics, recession and countless excuses and obfuscations. Blame Clinton for 9/11 and pat Bush on the back for “keeping us safe”. The sentiments of delusionalists.

The American people became disenfranchised and apathetic, knowing that no one in Washington paid them a bit of attention.

Then came Obama. A man of the people. Interesting, charismatic and driven. America woke up.

Will he deliver on all his intentions? Of course not. Not with the mess Bush has left for him to clean up.

But it’s refreshing that millions of Americans are invested once again in their government and in their leadership. This is not a bad thing. This is the embodiment of all things American.

And if you don’t like it, find a conservative haven to support your point of view. Alaska comes to mind.

Bush’s longstanding abysmal approval ratings by Americans may one day benefit from the Jim Rice syndrome.

After 15 years on the ballot these goofball HOF voters NOW think Rice is worthy of inclusion into Cooperstown. Though obviously his numbers didn’t change over that period. Not one more RBI, dinger or run scored.

Likewise, in another twenty years or so BushCo may get an approval rating nearing thirty percent. Again, even though his horrific track record in domestic and foreign policy won’t have changed one iota.

Commie,

Question. In a few months this Obama-tripping ends and employment is at 11-12%, do you feel that it will be his fault?

Everyone on the right clamored on about his inexperience in politics, well, that was one of the reasons I LIKED him to begin with. The dude is smart - you really can’t deny that. But bear with me here.

Like I mentioned yesterday, I feel this recession was a long time in the making - all the way back to Clinton and the NAFTA thing. I remember back then thinking, “Oh sh!t.” In my opinion, Clinton started it, it escalated during the Bush/Republican Congress years - and for the past two years - a period where absolutely nothing has been accomplished or failed because Congress hasn’t done one damn thing because of filibusters and vetoes, and the Democrats having absolutely no backbone - it’s been a kind of long, very long, two year catch up of all the bad policies and practices.

In my opinion, anything at all to do with government takes a while and I feel the past two years have been the climax of many, many years of really really bad, bad planning and policy making. Not to mention a result of the drunken spending of the American - let’s all get rich or we suck- people.

Bush has had a perpetual 8 year honeymoon with some of you and objectively he has reeked havoc and destruction. Of course Obama is first and foremost a politician—you’re not getting elected in this environment unless you are a master at fundraising and politics, and I don’t see quick results coming in this economy and the conservative and liberal economists that the web makes it easy to read and track don’t either.

I’ve been able to agree with a number of conservatives that the way these bailouts have been slapped together is reprehensible and destructive. The economy didn’t get into this hybrid of a recession/depression overnight, and it’s not going to improve palpably quickly either. That’s just not going to happen.

I cannot understand how Congress on both sides of the aisle has given Paulson and his 5 Merry Helpers (one from Goldman-Sachs on loan to Harvard and the rest all from Goldman Sachs) such carte blanche (I won’t italicize it because the stupid AJC has taken away the ability to do it anyway for whatever crazy reason—the same one that filters your posting for five minutes).

As far as the Obama paraphanalia it was inevitable. It is a big deal and long overdue that this country elect a minority or a woman to be president. Thankfully it wasn’t Hillary because she was totally unqualified to be Sec State or Pres. Obama is well qualified, and many here won’t agree of course, and while the situatrions demand quick fixes like the ones 2 time Tony winner Cherry Jones faces as President on 24, there aren’t going to be any quick fixes for this economy and this real estate situation.

And you can “betcha” house on that.

One thing that can happen quickly is funding for embryonic stems. It’s very painful to see opportunities to help people when they are significantly sick being foreclosed for so many years.

As to Gitmo, whatever side you’re on stop and remember this. Some of the detainees are very dangerous. Some of them actually did nothing. They weren’t carefully investigated, and evidence carefully amassed. Some of them were swept up.

And the disposition problem is that many of them have not had objective investigations as to why they are there. Many of them can’t be dumped back to the countries of origin because they won’t take them. So what gets done?

Everyone of them can be held here—and investigated here. If the massivee resources of the FBI and DOJ cannot find evidence against any one of them, without torture, they deserve to be free and granted US citizenship. Many of them have been held for years.

And I happened to hear ole DiFi talk about “detainees at Gitmo whom officials at Gitmo have said are bad people.” That’s not the criterion the US code has for charging someone. We don’t depend on former county jailers to determine evidence or a biased cadre of DOJsters assigned to trump up evidence at Gitmo.

Any prisoner deserves to have objective evidence presented, shared in discovery, no heresay allowed, and full access to them by competent counsel. That’s the way it’s supposed to work here; it hasn’t worked this way at Gitmo, and these people are going to have determinations that fully investigate them and it should be done IN this country, in the far from perfect system we have HERE.

That means no renditions and no Gitmo system for them.

Anyone of you who are screaming that they’re all bad would have pretty tight sphincters if you had to proove your innocence with the panoply of rights you are supposed to have now in this country. Pssstt—Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure have been stacked heavily against anyone accused in this country—talk to the former Bush administration officials—nearly 200 of ‘em on the way to federal prison or in it this minute.

There will be some

Bosch, Bush’s biggest problem was he never vetoed spending bills. He was not a great communicator and brushed off too many people without explaining things. A lot of people are blaming Bush for the recession. Bush is one person who has had to work with a democrat controlled congress for the past two years. It’s no coincidence that we are where we are. IF Obama and the democrat controlled government doesn’t get things going then the public will not be so kind to him in the coming years. Obama believes that government is the solution to the economy. NEVER has government solved the economy. If it were so we would never have another recession. Make sense? I’m not trying to argue with you. I’m just trying to make a point that no person can solve everyones problems. Its also funny how Obama has recently said that he will not be able to implement a lot of what he promised on the campaign trail. Yes Obama is smart. I’m smart and I have an MBA from Duke but it doesn’t make me presidential material. Obama is a great speaker who has great speech writers. He’s still an empty suit when it comes to thinking on his own. Take away the podium and speech writers and you have a guy who can not think on his feet. Just look at the Saddleback debate. He was horrible in that debate. He could not answer questions and gave a bunch of BS. A lot of Uhs and Ums.

Yes, Bookman, washout in Washington is going to be kinda strange.

Commie,

I don’t think Obama is an empty suit, not at all. I’ll give you that he says “um” alot, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have anything to say, and despite the Saddleback debate, the other times he did just fine. 4 out of 5 is pretty good (or was it 3 out of 4?)

And, I totally agree with you that if he and the Democratic Congress doesn’t work together, and real soon, the Obama-tripping (I like that term) will be over really quick. I think the American public know what the problem is, and they’ll be willing to give Obama a break, but not for long.

I think the problem with this country is as I said before, the American people and their drunken spending I want everything attitude, but Washington is broke because EVERY politician, Democrat and Republican alike are working for corporations - not for what’s good for everyone. They work for the corporations because they are constantly campaigning because they are constantly in the media spotlight, and they constantly need that money to win their seats because they get all the free stuff from lobbyist and they are addicted to power and the corporations need the politicians because they make the policies that keep them rolling in dough - it’s an UGLY cycle. Whew [taking a deep breath].

And you wrote, “Obama believes that government is the solution to the economy”

I don’t think Obama thinks that for one minute. I think those on the right like to THINK that, but he’s given no indication whatsoever that he believes that.

This whole stereotype of Democrats love to raise taxes and spend, while Republicans love to cut taxes and be fiscally responsible is gone by the way side.

They all love to spend our money - as evidenced by the past few months. They use excuses of this and that to justify it, but they are still drunk spending our money.

Think, just for one minute, how much of our tax money has gone right into the hands of corporations, or how much we don’t get, because of the subsides. It’s mind-boggling.

Now, I know you are perfectly capable of forming your own conclusions about people, but when you cut through the bullsh!t and look at what he’s done just since the election with appointments and whose he’s talking to (like the dinner last night) - he’s giving every indication that he’s willing to put petty politics aside and be everyone’s president.

And, I don’t think you’re arguing. Disagreement isn’t arguing - the ability to do so is what makes us American - and it’s healthy to disagree and hear different perspectives (which by the way, Obama is doing - ha ha). Your a business man, I’m an artist - there is an almost 99.99% chance we aren’t gonna see things the same, but it doesn’t mean we can’t discuss. Right?

I look in on this blog about every week to 10 days just to see what the most mentally challenged (on either side of the argument) are spewing forth. I have noticed that there are only a small number of you (thank god for our country’s sake)who are always here, and you rant at each other, regurgitating the same clap-trap over and over. I’m sure you all would be shocked to know that most of the country is far more sane and rational than you are, and have far less paranoia and hatred than you exhibit.

I don’t think I care to share any of my political opinions with you, since it is pointless to argue with fools. I will just sign off and let you get back to your wild pronouncements.

Bosch, Obama did indeed say that government is the solution to the economy. I watched his economic speech two days ago. Unless I’m deaf, which I am most certainly not, he said it.

Obama: Government is only solution to fixing economy

By Klaus Marre

President-elect Obama on Thursday plans to highlight the need for a massive stimulus measure by saying that only the government has the power to jumpstart the ailing economy.

“If nothing is done, this recession could linger for years. The unemployment rate could reach double digits. Our economy could fall $1 trillion short of its full capacity, which translates into more than $12,000 in lost income for a family of four,” Obama will say during an address at George Mason University, according to prepared remarks released by his staff.

“It is true that we cannot depend on government alone to create jobs or long-term growth, but at this particular moment, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe,” he plans to say. “Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy – where a lack of spending leads to lost jobs which leads to even less spending; where an inability to lend and borrow stops growth and leads to even less credit.”

Obama is advocating a stimulus package that focuses on infrastructure improvements, investments in alternative energy, education and healthcare, as well as tax cuts for the middle class.

“It is time to set a new course for this economy, and that change must begin now. We should have an open and honest discussion about this recovery plan in the days ahead, but I urge Congress to move as quickly as possible on behalf of the American people,” Obama plans to say. “For every day we wait or point fingers or drag our feet, more Americans will lose their jobs. More families will lose their savings. More dreams will be deferred and denied. And our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.”

Bosch, What kind of artist are you? I am a bit of an artist myself. Photography and painting. Anyway, no worries. At least you can chat without name calling. I don’t for one second believe that Obama is any different from any other Chicago politician. I live here and see the corruption on a daily basis. Obama’s biggest achievement outside of Harvard Law is being a community organizer. I still don’t know what that means. Politicians are just that, politicians. They lie, cheat and steal to get where they are. Yes, America has a big spending problem. I blame lack of self-control and materialism. Econ 101 should be a required class for all college students. You should never live outside your means. One thing is for sure, if taxes are cut then the economy runs well. Just look at what Reagan did. He cut taxes and the economy boomed. Bush did the same thing. After 911 the economy soared. Unemployment was very low and no one complained except democrats and the media.

Commie,

Well RIGHT NOW, unfortunately I agree with Obama - that the government IS going to have to step in and fix this. Got anybody else in mind? Do we just wait and let this all work itself out? If so, then no tax money bailouts for anybody - not corporations, not industries, not individuals - no one.

Do I like the fact that the government is having to do all this and pay all this money? No, I don’t, in our free-market society, I think that’s wrong.

In the long run, and I feel Obama would agree with me on this - I don’t think the government should intervene as little as possible, but part of that comes with corporations acting responsibly for what’s best for our country, not just them.

Now, I know that in business, money is the bottom line, and that’s certainly true and is completely their business. But when corporations’ only concern becomes money, and be damned everything else - then I’ll be damned if I can agree to them getting MINE or anyone else’s tax money.

You live in Chicago? My impression has been Obama maybe came up through the system but I don’t where he represented, or became, or took part in the system. Krauthammer’s “he used them and tossed them aside” analysis has merit, I believe.

Oh, and a ‘community organizer’ goes into a community, assesses needs, meets with heads of the agencies created to address those needs, lays out action plans and costs, then goes to the state capitol and meets with staffers and lawmakers, and if successful, gets money for the programs and organizations.

I can only laugh when I read about the people who plan on attending the inaguration next week. I don’t believe half the people who are claiming to go will actually go. Simply put, it’s all talk and little action. Most don’t have the means to get out of Atlanta. I work with a girl who has been yaking on and on for two weeks about going and guess what, today she was terminated because she had collection agencies calling her at work all day for old debts, all the while she already had garnishments against her pay here. I believe she is indicitive of the typical Atlanta person saying they’ll be in DC next week. However, I do think her mentality pretty much sums up the typical Obama lover. OH COMMIE

WRONG!

Myth 3: The economy has grown strongly over the past several years because of the tax cuts.

“The main reason for our growing economy is that we cut taxes and left more money in the hands of families and workers and small business owners.” — President Bush, November 4, 2006

Reality: The 2001-2007 economic expansion was sub-par overall, and job and wage growth were anemic.

Members of the Administration routinely tout statistics regarding recent economic growth, then credit the President’s tax cuts with what they portray as a stellar economic performance. But as a general rule, it is difficult or impossible to infer the effect of a given tax cut from looking at a few years of economic data, simply because so many factors other than tax policy influence the economy. What the data do show clearly is that, despite major tax cuts in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006, the economy’s performance between 2001 and 2007 was from stellar.

Growth rates of GDP, investment, and other key economic indicators during the 2001-2007 expansion were below the average for other post-World War II economic expansions (see Figure 2). Growth in wages and salaries and non-residential investment was particularly slow relative to previous expansions, and, while the Administration boasts of its record on jobs, employment growth was weaker in the 2001-2007 period than in any previous post-World War II expansion. (http://www.cbpp.org/8-9-05bud.htm)

Median income among working-age households, meanwhile, fell during the expansion. Census data show that among households headed by someone under age 65, median income in 2006, adjusted for inflation, was $1,300 below its level during the 2001 recession. Similarly, the poverty rate and the share of Americans lacking health insurance were higher in 2006 than during the recession.

Well, you living in Chicago, you certainly have a different perspective than most - only time will tell with whether or not he’s just another politician from the Chicago political machine. I certainly hope not, but if so, you can be the first one to say I told you so.

But I encourage all from the right to not go off the deep end when Obama hasn’t fixed everything in a couple of months. I always WANT politicians to do good and for things to work out. There are some things I can live with, and others I can’t. Like I said yesterday, I had no problem with Bush until Iraq, and that was just the one thing I couldn’t live with. If we didn’t have Iraq, Bush would probably have fairly high approval ratings now - and to be honest, I’d have probably solely blamed Clinton for the economic mess for signing NAFTA.

But we haven’t had a President since I’ve been alive at least (dont’ know about Carter, even though he’s my hero, he sucked as a President) that wasn’t a free market guy.

Mrs. Godzilla, I really would like you to actually have your own opinion rather than cut and paste from some hack website. The whole notion of tax cuts don’t put money back in to households is a bit off. It’s all in how people USE their money. Most Americans do not spend their money wisely. Again, it goes back to saving and living within ones means. I for one, save almost every penny, except for having to pay bills. The poor in this country have it ten times better than they would in third world countries. I came from a not-so-wealthy family. Yet, my parents were still able to save money. It goes back to ones priorities, Mrs. G. Government can not and will never solve poverty. EVER. The only way out of poverty is by saving money. Instead of wasting money on cigarettes and lotto tickets, try banking that money. Stay out of fast food joints and cook your own food. But then I’m sure you will come back with a “what about the children” response.

So in a french press, after about 3 and a half minutes, you need 2b pouring your cup. add heavy cream, and lots of sugar, and make sure there’s a friend around to converse with.

I will never under why some Caucasians are distrubed when others celebrate; it’s like a builded in hate mechanism that says “why should you they happy?” Liberals are the people that make America appealing to the rest of the World, they make up the bulk of the peace corps, green peace, feed the children and other social organizations, still, with all of that said, most people around the globe just knew for a fact that there remained a large majority of Americans that would happy if the clock never moved from 1956, They are elated to be wrong about the great American soceity. The remarkable thing about President George W. Bush wasn’t that he was a horrible chief executive; it’s that he was horrible in so many ways.

Contrary to the president’s own assessment of his tenure earlier this week, it was an astonishing eight years - and not in a good way. The country suffered two recessions, and two shooting wars. The government botched its response to a brazen attack by terrorists on two cities, and then four years later utterly failed to react when another city was consumed by a natural disaster.

The president took on tyranny by embracing torture. He fought a war for freedom by trampling human rights. He enriched the already rich, excused their excesses, and then bailed them out of trouble and handed us the bill.

He politicized everything, promoted incompetents, and — whenever things got tight — appealed to our basest instincts of fear, greed, ignorance and hate.

Bush had all the luck of Jimmy Carter, the attention to detail of Ronald Reagan, the adaptability of Lyndon Johnson, the abiding respect for the Constitution of Richard Nixon, the humility of Teddy Roosevelt, the rhetorical skills of Calvin Coolidge, the fiscal restraint of Franklin Roosevelt, the cronyism of Warren Harding, and the overreaching idealism of Woodrow Wilson.

And his election had all the legitimacy of Rutherford Hayes’.

I’m still waiting for someone, preferably of the devout Republican persuasion, to talk about the Republican policy of cutting taxes while waging wars, signing off on a prescription drug benefit, approving a massive farm bill, and bailing out wall street… All of these items take money out of the budget. In order to do this, the Republican administration borrowed money — about a trillion dollars from China alone. Further, the only way to pay back the borrowed money and the accruing interest is to either raise taxes or make drastic cuts in expenditures because the current tax collections are not enough. Contrary to Republican-held myth, the tax cuts implemented during the Bush terms have NOT increased tax revenues. Bush has simply borrowed more and more money from other countries. Yet, the Republicans think that the answer to all of our economic problems is to cut taxes. It doesn’t work that way and it’s real simple to see why once you open your eyes. Any answers out there. Anything backed up with a little math behind it. A little proof. Something simple. How about for a balanced budget, Revenue = Spending, and if you spend too much, then you have to borrow, with interest. Here’s a simple chart. It’s actually real easy to see what Bush has done and it aint pretty.

Cheney is still refusing to hand over his VP papers. He also wants to take home his collection of Obama coins from the Franklin Mint, that he purchased with campaign funds in 04, the dirty rat.

I wonder how big the Inauguration will play out? Will it be this Chinese Olympic level media blitz?

There’s a calm before this storm. The nation isn’t really buzzing yet. I hope homeland security knows what it’s doing, because talk about a prime target: the inauguration of the ages.

I’d triple the guard

Bush on Larry King last night! This man is in denial big time. His wife is looking pretty hot, though, the lucky skunk. Why is it always the short stupid ones who get all the babes? I hate that.

What is Bush saying, that HE saw her first?

That’s sad. Patrick McGoohan, too? I still remember him from The Wonderful World of Disney’s Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. And you’re right - Montalban as Khan was the quintessential villain.

Topic played out? This just popped up:

“GREENSBURG, Pa. — Three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves, and three male classmates in a Greensburg Salem High School who received them, are charged with child pornography.

“Police said the girls are being charged with manufacturing, disseminating or possessing child pornography while the boys face charges of possession.”

Time to change the law? Like any politician is going to propose that -

Let’s see here, Jay, “8 years of ineffective leadership, blah, blah, blah” and “something strange and not entirely healthy”. Let’s talk about that last part. Could it be that you know that the millions out there that gobbled the goop our media, our news outlets and the lefty websites spewed during the campaign have left Obama’s followers with unrealistic expectations of the man? Could that be? Jay, you’re as guilty as anybody in that aspect. Can the man live up to the hype? Probably not. What happens when he can’t? It isn’t going to be pretty. The situation will exist wherein you and the rest of liberal media (including the leftist Washington Post whom you so lovingly drew from yesterday to make your point, which made it pointless) will be faced with a big decision; either you spin his inadequacies to try to make the mostly jaded and, how should I say this, “un-informed”, American public buy it or you tell the truth about him. Based upon history, it won’t be the latter. In the matter of furthering your own idealogy, regardless whether it is good for this country or not, we will be fed excuses and rationalizations for every bad decision and mistake he makes. The real killer in all this is that his own constituency, because of the groundwork you and your pals did in building him up to such unrealistic levels, are going to quickly realize that he is not their “Moses” and he is not their “Messiah” and that he can’t buy them Escalades and he can’t pay their credit card bills and he can’t give them jobs. They will turn on him and he will be vilified.

I did not know that.

I really liked him in Secret Agent Man (great theme song) and the too-short lived The Prisoner.

Columbo - just saw a sad piece about Peter Falk. Seems his health isn’t too good, possibly Alzheimer’s developing. His daughter went to court to try to control the assets (I think I have this right) in part because his wife wasn’t, in her view, his ‘real’ wife. They’ve been married since the 70s and darling daughter had once before sued Dad for money.

Sad what money does to some people. His last days shouldn’t be like that.

It is official; Obama’s festivities Tuesday night are going to cost the American taxpayers more than any other president in history. This certainly can’t be blamed on inflation, because right now we are on the verge of collapsing because of de-flation. Emergency public funds had to be allocated to fund this “celebration”. And this coming at a time of recession and when the American people are hurting. Where is the outrage? This is a signs of things to come people. You think you have seen government waste, wait till Obama and his rich cronies (yes, the greedy and the rich are also present in the Democratic party) in Congress have gotten through with you. Another interesting tidbit; the first off-shore “green energy” wind-farm in America is having real trouble being built offshore in Mass. because there are certain influential parties there that object to it being built because of “environmental concerns”. The main opposer is Ted Kennedy. Looks like a case of Economical or Social Racism to me. I think they are saying, build it where the poor people live, they can’t complain. Seems they don’t want it where they have their “cottages”. You liberals are a bunch of suckers.

Cancel the right of free assembly? Provide no security or crowd control?

Perhaps, Obama can just e-mail the Oath of Office on his blackberry.

I said here a couple of days ago, when Bush declared emergency in DC, that I was paying for this, and so were you and you and you.

Buck up little buckaroos, I didn’t like paying a trillion dollars for Bush’s folly in Iraq. Or for all those dangerous FEMA trailers. Or Schlozman’s salary. I paid my dues. I will this time and so will you.

So the Obama festivities will be $$$$, shown at movie theaters, pay-per-view, all cable and local networks, a movie is in the making, schools are being re-named, Obama is the most popular boy’s and girl’s name, a new action figure is in the works, the mention of the name of “The One” evokes strange tingles, at least two candy bars and a cereal are also in the works….and not a negative word can be spoken for fear of PC….it’s going to be a LONG 4 years….

Make that 8 years Egomania, it’s going to take your party at least a decade to re-fashion its fractured image. Just think about “Barack the magic negro”, and “Off with his head”, stuff like that left a bad taste in the electorate’s mouths. Commie wrote: Obama’s biggest achievement outside of Harvard Law is being a community organizer. I still don’t know what that means.

I hate to jump in this mess, it’s very redundant at best, but you say you are from Chicago, and you don’t know what a community organizer does? That leads me to believe that you are NOT in fact from or in Chicago! If you were, you would know, the city is full of them, it is part of the heritage of the city, a living part of the culture, community organizers made that city and it’s history is full of them. I know I was born and raised there and just moved to GA Four God Forsaken years ago…..

Also, since when does Community organizing and Harvard Law eclipse Being elected US Senator, or POTUS? Seems to me the man has amassed quite an impressive list of accomplishments post 1990…… DUH! Don’t be a hater your whole life, you are way to angry on a daily basis to be healthy at all! See you Doctor and take a vacation, if you are really in Chicago, you may want to look into someplace warm.

Just sayin/

peace all!

I am sorry, forgive me but I just can’t let this go, and Commie, I am putting you on blast right here! WHY don’t you know what community organizers do if you live in Chicago?

Do you not know that every neighborhood in Chicago has a community association, ever heard of Hyde Park Community Coalition, Pilsen Neighborhood Association, Lincoln Park Community Association, Rogers Park, Lakeview Community Coalition, River West, Near North, Hello?, Michigan Avenue Retailers Association, Near West, Little Italy, Jew Town Merchants Association…..etc the list goes on and on…. every area has them, filled with community organizers.

Community organizers work with the residents of a given community to promote commerce, safety (CAPS), security(Block Clubs), schools, every school in Chicago is part of a feeder group, primary schools and High Schools, each a part of a Local School Council, which is made up of people who volunteer to be Community Organizers and provide oversight for the schools in their system. HELLO, why don’t you know this if you are from Chicago?

Ever heard about the Community Organizers in Roseland, who worked to shut down over 100 liquor stores in the 6 mile radius, and in their place bring back retailers, restaurants, hotels and even the Bulls now use the new gymnasium built there as their practice facility, in the community instead of out in North Chicago where they used to practice. That is what Community Organizing does, and that is how Barack Obama cut his teeth. Making a difference, working with the people in Pullman who were losing their jobs due to the steel plants closing. Pullman became an historic district, and its history was preserved, and people went back to work with new job training.

Why don’t you know this if you live in Chicago. Seems to me like you are just being argumentative for arguments sake because it is a way of life in Chicago, for everyone. I can understand if you don’t like Obama for whatever reason, but you don’t have to try to act like you don’t know who he is, or what he has done. It’s all there in print if you really wanted to know, just look it up, or better yet, ask you neighbor if you really live in Chicago, I am sure he/she can tell you what a community organizer does. Everybody knows at least one!

Heavens, this fawning idol-worship is very distressing! I mean, the man’s just an elected official, not a deity, people. It’s not like sheer charisma can serve as a rallying point for an entire generational movement, not when faced with the hard and ugly realities of the office and the inevitable compromises that come with it.

For pity’s sake, Ronald Reagan is DEAD, Republinuts. Get over him already.
