Obama the transformer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Charles Krauthammer sees what I’ve been seeing too — Barack Obama does not intend to be a caretaker president. No, quite the contrary:
“With the country clamoring for action and with all psychological barriers to government intervention obliterated (by the conservative party, no less), the stage is set for a young, ambitious, supremely confident president — who sees himself as a world-historical figure before even having been sworn in — to begin a restructuring of the American economy and the forging of a new relationship between government and people.
….He intends to transform America. And he has the money, the mandate and the moxie to go for it.”

Cry wingnuts cry…
That’s the reality. Obama is YOUR next president and all the rightwingNut blogs in the world won’t change that. And say you managed to change that fact, via litigation or asassination, then Joe B becomes YOUR president. (Not Mccain/Palin…)

Transform our country into - what?
The United States has been the most successful experiment on this planet since the beginning of time. And was so long before the birth of the Messiah Obama. So why do we need transformation? And who does Obama think he is that he is the person that has the knowledge to transform us into something else?
The arrogance of the President-elect and his myrmidons is astounding.

Give the guy a chance, he isn’t even up to bat yet. He can’t be worse than the last 8 years.
Meanwhile, the state of Michigan thinks Alabama, yes the southern state of Alabama, is taking their jobs away.
Have they noticed the economy? Losing your job is alousy thing to have happened. Unfortunatly, welcome to the world. They must have noticed at some point their American made cars, one I drive, does not all come from this country.
Michigan needs to stop blaming and look to their own leaders of their companies. Looks bad when they fly their own planes to ask for money.
Will Obama solve the world? No, but you have to admit, he will have his hands full. He better keep his eyes open for the road ahead.
He is our President in 2009, all we can do is hope.

While that “Transformers” riff is funny, if you trouble to actually read the ridiculous Krauthammer piece you’ll be forced, once again, to ask the right wing to put up or shut up with their stupid “Obama has highly irritated the left” business.
I tune in to left wing radio via podcast, read left wing forums, have some left wing friends who think of me as fairly centrist by comparison. I have no idea where the right is getting this idea that the left is “highly irritated.” Beyond the normal griping and moaning you’d expect to hear from some corners that their needs haven’t been properly addressed, this is just nonsense. By and large, the left is pretty stoked, actually, and if there’s any collective concern it’s that we not blow this chance we have to positively transform the socio-political landscape going forward.
If lying about this stuff is how the Krauthammers of the world get through the day, whatever. But it’s still lying. And Krauthammer, for the record, doesn’t bother to cite a single solitary instance of “infuriation” to back up his claim in the linked piece. Not one.

Good article, actually. Best line is how the dems took control of congress a couple of years back on the paygo promise, which is quickly going out the window. People loved Billy Clinton when they think he balanced the budget, though it was Gingrinch’s congress that actually did it, but Obama and the new deal congress will do the exact opposite, spending like fools, driving the deficit to untold heights. The real question is, will the paygo budget balancing dems be voicing their displeasure at the results, or will it be kept quiet?

I’m pulling for Obama. But, there is a habit that bothers me slightly. First there was the bootleg, presidential-knockoff seal from the campaign. Now, there’s the “office of the President-elect,” sign at the lecturn whenever he speaks. There is no “office,” of president-elect. Seems kind of like school-yard-pretend that should be beneath a president elect. That said, I think speaking to the press, picking a cabinet and speaking about the economy is doing more good for people’s confidence than anything the sitting President has done since he stood on the Ground Zero rubble and promised “the people who knocked these buildings down are doing to hear from all of us soon.”

Shawny: You have not learned anything, have you? While the House and Senate pass legislation (oh, and they have to match exactly!), the President (in this case Clinton) has to sign the legislation (and this means the budget) for it to become law. I do not recall any vetos or any votes to override the president’s budget actions.
Clinton actually talked to both Repubs and Demos to forge a common document, unlike Bush. Remember Bush had a rubber stamp Congress.Clinton forged a compromise.

I hope for all of our sake that he is everything we have been told he is going to be.
All judgement upon him should be reserved until after he takes office.
That goes both ways for those who say he is going to crumble this country. If we are as great as we claim, then no one man should be able to bring our great country down. That is its strength that each person is responsible for his own success and failure. The president never has the power to determine individual success or failure.
Also to those who have already erected their shrine to Obama. Wait you are no better than those you tell to wait until he is in office. Take your own advice. Wait if he is good then you can say I told you so, if not you can pretend that you never supported him as we know how
The decisions and speeches are always easier as the president Elect. They seem to carry more weigh and go under more scrutiny when you are just president.

Also, if you look closely at the one’s living off government handouts (food stamps, welfare, free cheese and such), you will find more ‘loony lefties’ than ‘rightwingnuts’.

Mort, if your @ 8.28 is on the level, and granting that your bother was “slight”—what is Obama supposed to call his transition team? It’s a major effort, involving lots of people and lots of money and (I’m assuming) actual physical office space, with networks, servers, and such carried over from his campaign.
If not “office of the President elect” it’s got to be called something. “Transition Team” seems kind of silly. He could just keep all the campaign wallpaper stuff active, but that’d seem hyper-partisan.
Having said all that, honestly, I can’t recall how Bush 43, Clinton, or Reagan officially named their respective party-turnover interregnum organizations, either. Anyone else remember?

Tom, what financial experience do you think Obama brings to the table that would transform this nation? More government regulation? Sorry. Tried that. Failed miserably. See: Mortgage and Finance Meltdown of 2008 as caused by GOVERMENT REGULATION.
Oh, and 401k accounts are for the LONG term, Tom. Mine has taken multiple short-term hits over the years, and has always bounced back. In spite of all those hits, it is far higher today than what it was before. In short: No net loss in my investments over the LONG term.
That is what the libs and the Dems will never understand. Too much regulation and too many who think they know how to meddle in systems they don’t understand will be the death of this Republic. Not the transformation of it.

The 52% that voted for this clown keep expecting him to transform this country and the world into some kind of utopia that is 180 from the evil Bush. You picked a pretty poor choice in selecting a Chicago precinct politician who has way too many questionable associations with a number of people who don’t represent utopia to the other half of the voters and, I would surmise, to many of the 52% who voted for him. This Illinois governor and his staff are just the beginning. We kept trying to tell you kool aid sipping libs that there was something amiss but in your self imposed euphoria, it is hard to see the facts, isn’t it? “I don’t think it’ll be hard to explain why Senate Republicans had the final say: that’s what the Constitution and Senate rules require. How else would we have passed anything? I do think it’ll be hard for Senate Republicans to explain themselves.
They were invited, repeatedly, to participate in more than a week of negotiations with a Republican White House. They declined.
They were asked to provide an alternative bill. They refused.
Finally, one of their members - Senator Corker of Tennessee - participated in a day-long negotiation with Senate Democrats, the UAW, and bondholders. Everyone made major concessions. Democrats gave up efficiency and emissions standards. UAW accepted major benefit cuts and agreed to reduce workers’ wages. Bondholders signed off on a serious haircut. But when Senator Corker took the deal back to the Republican Conference, they argued for two hours and ultimately rejected it.
Why? Because they wanted the federal government to forcibly reduce the wages of American workers within the next 12 months.

He is no different than most of the rest and maybe worse since he comes out of corrupt Chicago. Once they get caught with their pants down he/and or his staff will lawyer up, delay, obfuscate, dodge, confuse, ignore, refuse to answer questions, claim executive privilege, etc. This current issue may not involve Aytch directly (we’ll see) but it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Of course Obama is a transformer. The 67 million who voted for Obama are also transformers. The 80% of Americans who approve of his actions to date are transformers too. About damn time.
Now, at my house we were more care bears and strawberry shortcake than transformers, but I recently saw the Transformers movie and instantly had the decepticons pegged as the republicons. (Just as they could have been compared to the Purple Pieman and Professor Coldheart)
Krauthammer is right about the mandate and the moxie, but wrong about the money. He’s got roughly 60 million leftover from his campaign and there are rules as to how he can use it. (That’s what 4 hours in Iraq costs, BTW)
Is Krauthammer’s money reference perhaps alluding to the power of the American economy? What a funny guy!
The fact that even before the innauguration the rightiest rights and the wingnuttiest winguts are completely flipping out is a testament to how afraid, how obstructionist and how just plain mean spirited they can be.

gadem, I mentioned in my post that I was not sure of the legality or the constitutional merit of the donation.
I made a similar post maybe a week ago, calling for both campaigns to donate the remaining on hand cash that was not designated to pay off any credit line.
Do not over react so bad. I know it upset you that I said something about your next stalking victim but it is true. Neither him nor Biden donated much of a percentage of their reported income last year.
I did not make any mention of how the money was spent on the campaign for either candidate and shows just how partisan and unthoughtful you are.
Try actually reading what is written.
Many of the claims you made against my post were unfounded.
You went on and on about money spent on the campaign trail, while I have never mentioned how they spent their money. It was each candidate’s to spend as they saw fit to help bolster their position.
You show your lack of comprehension skills when you go on a tangent about something that I never said.
If it is legal for the candidates to donate money to government I think it would be a nice precedent to set and show that they actually do put country not party first.
We all now see which one you put first.

Yeah - the libs are scurrying, frightened as to what Emanual and Valerie Jarrett are going to say about their messiah.

Hey Mrs. G.,
Hope you feel better soon.
I like the Transformer image.
Good lord, the Christmas fat gods are against me. Now I have a big box of lebkuchen sitting on my desk. Lebkuchen, sigh, they sing to me like the Sirens.
Must…..go……running!

corporal
why don’t you tell us what has happened to transparency….we are always entertained and amused by your interpretations of the truth and you are obviously ever so anxious for us to be exposed to the wisdom of the eternal corporal, go for it.
As we are all accustomed to taking medical advice from the hospital parking lot attendents and financial tips from the copy repair man at the bank, we are all on the edge of our seats waiting to hear all the pearls of geopolitical wisdom that fall from the lips of a guy who couldn’t get beyond “the lowest grade of non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps” yet wields his service like a sledge hammer smacking a mosquito.
Please oh please corporal tell us. Where has all the transparency gone?

“Boy you libs are a little quiet today.”
Maybe this would be a good time for you to take a break, from the time stamps I notice this place has become your life. Internet addiction is a serious problem.

I take it that everyone is good with Emmanuel’s decision to not answer questions.
I just thought almost everyone was in agreement that this type of “only let us know what we need to know government” is not what is needed or wanted.
Guess it is only when it is Bush doing it that it is offensive.
Bosch, see again with food. How many people give you food? I need some of your friends I got a stupid fruit cake yesterday. My dog would not even eat it.

Tcoach,
I suppose we have an awful lot of catching up to do to surpass Bush’s record of lies, screwups, not answering questions, claiming he’s above answering questions, claiming his staff is above answering questions, etc.

“Why won’t Rahm talk? Do you think we’re going to find out that he was the go-between between PEBO and Governor Blog?”
Talk about what? This is like the brth cert**cate rubbish.
Note the innuendo: “Do you think we’re going to find out…” Already, Talk Radio has determined that there was a “go-between.” An unethical act, if not a crime, has been suggested with what are called “weasel words.”
Everybody can play: “Why won’t George Bush talk? Do you think we’re going to find out he ordered the invasion of Iraq while in a drunken stupor? We won’t know the answer until he finally puts the controversy to rest with a public statement on the issue.”

Midori, So the actions of Bush excuse Rham Emmanuel.
Sounds like you just want to bash Bush. That is fine don’t think he did the best job.
But does it not seem slightly unfair to excuse this behavior, because the guy before me did it.
Obama pledged transparency just yesterday and then Emmanuell refuses to answer a qusetion, about the issue they are all supposed to be transparent about.
Either it is wrong for both or not wrong for either.
Is this your plan for however long Obama is pres. Any time there is awrong done by him or his crew, find a similar wrong in Bush admin and say well he did it too.
Sounds kinda 2nd grade?

Emanuel is under no responsibility to hold a press conference and be buffeted with smarmy questions about what he did — or didn’t do — concerning the vacant Senate seat. The grand jury will hear from him. Time will tell, as the Corporal likes to say.

Greg, Sounds like there was some type of go between, or he would not have said this in the tapes.
-Blagojevch was caught on tape saying that he wanted the Obama advisor in question to know what Blagojevich wanted in exchange for the Jarrett appointment.
Blagojevich said, “He asks me for the fifth CD thing, I want it to be in his head.” Emanuel represents the 5th Congressional District in Illinois From Chicago-Sun Times

Even after losing badly with the technics, the repugs still want to run a mud sling and tarnish act.
If you are so jealous of the success of progressives why don’t you stop wasting time looking for cracks and come up with some solid governing policy.I mean after all you have had eight years with pretty sad results.why not stop all the whining and go do something good for the world.
Like grow up.

Bookman always, ALWAYS seems determined to inflame. Most new US Presidents, heck, most new leaders of any kind of any thing feel embolded, inspired, excited to get going, fix things, only to be later worn down by the many realities and people who cannot or will not enable the “fix,” which in this case is good, as not nearly all, if any, of Obama’s fixes will be good. He’ll end up tired and uninspired like so many when faced with reality. The real reality is that sometimes it is what it is because that’s how people want it and/or that’s how it SHOULD be and/or the leader is powerless, thank God.

Abomi
Good grief …. you’re on here as much as I am. Maybe more? Are you working? Stealing from your employer? I hope not.
Mrs. G.
Oops … look like I struck a nerve and got you all upset. I apologize -especially with your current condition.
Transparency? It’s really quite simple. Based on what Aytch promised during the campaign he should be parading his staff in front of the media to explain everything they did. If they won’t - goodbye.
Now, from my perspective (at this time) it looks like Aytch will be o.k. (can’t say the same for some of the staff). However, I am very concerned that the arrest of the Gov. was made when it was. You always let the deal go through (except murder for hire, etc.) to seal your case. I think it’s possible pressure was brought to bear before the big guy got caught saying something on tape.
Those tapes should still be up and running ……. too bad.
But, let’a just suppose that breaking news had Aytch with a severe ethical or worse - indictable offense right now. It wouldn’t be safe to walk the streets. I don’t think even the Bush Administration wanted to take even the chance of that developing.
P.S. This old Corporal (19 then) helped train a lot of college educated green lieutenants when they got to Nam. Hopefully, I helped to save a life. Surely you know I base my opinions now on my career and 11 years inside the D.C. Beltway. Have you ever been in the Situation Room or listened to conversations while driving the armored limo? I have …. so I have at least an inkling about how things work up there.
What experience are your opinions based on? Novels?

Mrs G: Hope you get better fast, but it will take time…and patience, something you have. You know when you’ve taken too much codienne is when AJC Mgmt starts to make sense! Some wouldn’t know what transparency is, even if they were looking through a new pane of glass.

Dogs can be trained to attack, defend, sniff for bombs and rescue. They don’t get a vote.
11 years as a corporal in the beltway entitles you to your opinion, not expert status.
I know you won’t get this….but we have all fought wars. Won and lost battles, body parts and good buddies. Don’t ever be so pompous as to think your war was the only one worth fighting.

To Mrs. G.
1) You asked me to explain transparency as Aytch should practice it and I did.
2) In response (and as usual), you make personal attacks and denigrate my service instead of debating the issue.
3) If we were discussing a medical question on this blog, I would assume that any doctors posting opinions would have greater weight than you or I. I never claimed to be an expert. In fact, I only claimed to have an inkling about how things work in D.C..
My “corporal” rank was limited to USMC service. My inside the beltway time was “Assistant Special Agent in Charge”.
4) You are also entitled to any opinion on these blogs but you fail to provide your life experience so others can assess its proper weight.
