Tell the truth and no crossies, Mr. President

Dan Froomkin of The Washington Post, noting the round of “exit interviews” being conducted by President Bush, came up with a great idea:

“I was going to ask you what questions you think reporters should be asking Bush,” he tells readers, “but since he’s so adept at ducking, I’ve decided to ask something a little bit more fun: What questions would you most want to ask the president if he were under Pentathol?”

Froomkin’s own first choice: “When exactly did you decide to go to war in Iraq?” But some of his readers got a little more inventive.

SaveTheCountry, for example, wants to know if Bush wore “a concealed radio receiver in any of the 2004 debates with John Kerry? If so, who was transmitting?”

And GavinM would ask: “Do you believe in the literal truth of the Bible and what is your opinion on the end of days passages in Revelation?”

What about you guys? One question, and he has to answer truthfully.

My experience during one summer working for someone who thought Pentathol was effective in interviewing was that Pentathol had about as much efficacy in eliciting the truth as yelling at headstones in Oakland cemetary during a full moon. It did make for some fun moments when the person who was receiving the pentathol made a fool out of the person who was slow pushing it.

That said, I think Jay meant it as a metaphor. This administration will go to their grave with all the secrets in the Man Sized safe among Addington, Cheney, Gillispie, Rove, and all the players.

Congress lacks the balls to pursue it as was shown by the recent shutting down of the subpoenas for Miers and Bolten from HJC. Those ain’t seein’ the light of day anytime soon unless the Congress sworn in has the balls to pursue them again. The Obama admin sure as hell won’t.

And speaking of the lack of balls, tune into C-Span and watch as the House and Senate caves on requirements for the Bit 2.5 and allows Cerebrus who is composed of more millionaires than you’d run into on Paul Allen’s yacht. I’m talkin’ omissions standards, the law suits that the Big 3 have challenging admissions standards, forcing Cerebrus who is in your pocket and your bank account to repay the loans when the companies go under and they will go under and fail to repay. That’d be Chrysler and Nardelli and GM. You might want to stop by Nardelli’s two houses on Garmon Drive for a little Christmas beveridge since he’s reaching into your pocket deeply.

I’d like to give a big shout out to the morons here and at Wootsie’s blog including Jimmy Woo Woo Wooten who think Blago’s indictment somehow implicates Obama remotely except to show on the transcripts that Blago hated Obama because they refused to talk to him and weren’t going to pay to play for a Val Jarrett nomination (who actually didn’t want to be Senator anyway).

Ah sure do hope Valley Babe gets on here so she can use her big brain to explain and analyze all the legal nuances and other political issues for me as she always does.

@David Wayne?

What you be smokin’? You and your homeboys who supported Trailer Trash Palin never have the balls to define what “winning in Iraq” would be.

We’ve lost big time. 55,000 totally neurologically or orthopedically or no eyes opthamologically and other associated injuries for the wounded. 5000 dead soldiers. Thousands of economically wrecked soldiers’ families.

We never should have been there. Bush is a fool who should have left 2nd week in November and gotten his incompetent a* and his administration out of office instead of issuing a cascade of CFR notices for executive orders that will waste Obama’s administration time undoing and burrowing in dead wood from his administration in agencies.

All you Wingnuts who talk about “winning in Iraq” have no clue. If you want to consider it winning, consider the reality is that the quagmire we’re in is that at the end of 2010 we will still have about 80,000 troops, hundreds of Blackwater and other contractors and thousands of ancillary personnel p** away money and lives as suicide bombs continue and the lights are still not on more than 4 hours a day and the water continues to be cholera infused.

Militants Give Up Guns for Fishing Nets and Tools

A few months ago no one dared to enter or simply pass Al Adhamiyah neighbourhood north of Baghdad due to Al Qaida’s grip on this Sunni majority town. But the Al Qaida gunmen of yesterday have transformed themselves into the carpenters and fisherman of today.

“I used to belong to the Al Qaida group, but I wasn’t involved in violent crimes. I had no choice but to protect my neighbourhood from other militias, but now I chose the stability of working as a fisherman,” a man who called himself ‘Abu Amer’ told Gulf News.

The area has a beach that stretches along the Tigris river, dozens of cafes and restaurants have been erected on these shores. Floating restaurants are popular with residents for their menu of grilled fish.

As night descends, Al Adhamiyah’s restaurants and cafes fill with visitors blocking the violence of the past from their memories.

“There is a hatred of Al Qaida in Al Adhamiyah because of the scars it left on the neighbourhood, I cannot see Al Qaida ever returning here,” Sami Al Azawi, a local journalist, told Gulf News.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. said at a news conference in Washington that he was Senate Candidate 5 in the government’s criminal complaint — a man Blagojevich was secretly recorded as saying might be willing to pay money to gain appointment to Obama’s vacant Senate seat. Jackson said he had been assured by prosecutors he was not a target of the investigation, and he emphatically said he had not engaged “whatsoever in any wrongdoing.”

No, of course he did nothing wrong, why, offering money for a Senate seat when you are a democrat is perfectly fine, no problemo.

Don’t even think about it, Repugs, the libs, criminals all, would tar and feather your as-ses.

Ensconced in his downtown office, Blagojevich gave no sign he was contemplating resigning, and dispatched his spokeswoman, Kelley Quinn, to say it was “business as usual” in his 16th-floor suite, situated a few blocks from Obama’s transition headquarters.

Business as usual, heh.

So if you are any of your bretheren Wingnuts can define via bullet points or any other way of your choosing what the f*** winning in Iraq is go for it.

Obama’s already kicked you in the balls every which way. He’s helped to bring down the airlines, impact the economy, and has the Senate f*cking with bailing out Cerebrus who is a daddy who won’t loan his own kid a cent. Cerebrus has its hand deep into your colon and your wallet for your money and unless your homeboys like Navada’s Senator can beat cloture and a fillibuster before they lose their near tie minority to a new Senate you’ve just bailed out Cerebrus who has more multi millionaires than you’ll ever lay eyes on in your life.

Are you still amazed at how left nuts tried to compare your academic record with Al Gore? Even after it became apparent that you were the better achiever with a higher GPA?

Can you believe the way Ted Kennedy almost threw up on himself when he was yelling at John Ashcroft about the Second Amendment in the confirmation hearings? Even though Ashcroft was right and Kennedy was incredibly wrong.

Can you believe that the 9/11 commission ignored John Ashcroft’s testimony about the wall between intelligence and law enforcement?

Don’t you wish Jamie Gorelick had never been born?

@ Corporal—

Why the hell have you stuck around? Instead of the specious superficial right wing rhetoric try stating your position on any given subject.

You have questions for Obmaa what’s stopping you from emailing him? You can still email his White House Counsel directly. Greg Craig is at Williams Connelly so you want to talk directly to Obama’s brain trust—you can at least use a mouse and a keyboard. I’m sure Greg will be thrilled to hear from you and your questions for Obama.

So instead of jerking yourself off here and crying about what you want to ask Obama I’ve just told you how to actually realize your fantasy and ask Obama instead of p** around here.

And if you have any legitimate issues you can discuss without childish mud slinging I haven’t seen any posts that do so.

Why don’t you put a copy of your email to Craig in here since I’ve given you the opportunity to ask directly to Obama now.

Ball in your court “Corporal.”

I resided in Texas when Bush was elected twice and served as governor. If those who excoriate him so had ever bothered to ascertain how he was able to win support for his primary legislative objectives you might have jumped all over others. He reached out to the opposition, you do this for me and I will do this for you, should one of us hold something so dear we cannot compromise we will move on. He and they compromised. Many things were achieved and respect was given both directions. Mr. Bush attempted the same as President but was rejected and smeared by the opposition. The oppositions idea of comprise was, “Our way, or no way!”.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:

  • Number of States won by: Democrats: 20 Republicans: 30

  • Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

  • Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million
    Republicans: 143 million

  • Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
    Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds:

“In aggregate the map of the red/blue counties shows……

Republicans won — mostly land owned by taxpaying citizens….

Democrats won — areas encompassing government owned tenements and citizens living off various forms of government welfare…”

Yo JR. I’ve done what you can’t do in every post. I’ve included facts. Your boy wanted to ask Obama questions. Instead of wasting his time boasting of it here, I gave him the way to do it rooted in reality with info you don’t have and would never have.

Do you have any issue whatsoever you want to discuss?

How about 200 words on what “winning in Iraq” means to you?

How about another 200 as to why you believe Palin was ever qualified to do anything but shovel trailer trash or how she’s got the kind of brain and education you’d like your daughter to have?

Again the epiethets or criticisms that are superficial don’t bother me but on these type blog comments where I spend little time I notice that while the mud flinging comes from both sides of the aisles the Dems are far better equipped to engage in serious discussion of actual issues. They’re significantly better educated; they’re better informed, and they spend a lot less time with 5th-6th grade name calling.

I’ll check back here in a few hours and see if you actually engaged in the kind of discussion you’d try if you were in a classroom going for a grade and graded on what you said.

RTW—instead of cliches why don’t you show off your education by discussing any current or domestic issue with butressed detail here. We’ve all seen those kind of cliches. They flew your campaign into the crapper. You got significantly stomped. And one decent definition of insanity is to behave as Jim Wooten has and jump up and down excitedly about Jindal-Palin in 2012. Although Bobby is significantly well educated and knows issues (he did very well in decent schools) he is to the right of the base. Running him and Carabou Moron will bury you in 2012 and I’m waiting for any of you to come up with serious candidates you think can beat Obama in 2012.

It’s very easy to take pot shots at him now. The web has made that tempting; but we all know he’s not had a chance to be in office yet and despite some whacko jabbering about law suits and citizenship or birth that are going nowhere, he’s going to have that chance.

I find it ludicrous to criticize Obama for his action on any current domestic or foreing problems before he’s had time in the Oval. And parsing his statements about Blago’s indictment or his actions may be fun for the main stream media and particularly Faux news but it means absolutely nothing. It means Cable News has a lot of time to fill and they think eyeballs don’t get tired of their repeated cliches.

So pick an issue or not and discuss it in some depth instead of ticking off a few secondes of Wingnut Cliches. B*** about them is going nowhere. I’m sure you were consicous of the Republican primary. No one seriously got close to McCain and McCain didn’t get seriously close to Obama and he insulted all of us by picking Palin when there were thousands of running mates male and female who had substantial brains and judgement. Once she was his runing mate it was over.

Shades of Tricky Dick, who at least had the manhood to resign.

10 Nov 2008 // Washington, D.C. - Today, D.C. District Court Judge Henry Kennedy upheld lawsuits brought by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) and the National Security Archive challenging the White House’s failure to properly store and recover millions of emails. In 2002, the Executive Office of the President (EOP) stopped using the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) that had been in place since 1994, which automatically backed up all emails, but failed to install any other backup program. As a result, the Office of Administration (OA) determined that millions of emails from between March 2003 and October 2005 have disappeared. Although OA developed a plan to recover the missing emails, it was never implemented and no new electronic records management system was ever put into place. CREW sued EOP, OA and the Archivist alleging that they had violated the Federal Records Act by failing to take corrective action.

In refusing to dismiss the case, Judge Kennedy resoundingly rejected the White House’s arguments. The Court held that CREW has the right to sue to force the Archivist, EOP and OA to initiate action through the attorney general to restore the deleted emails before they become irrecoverable, that the Court has the authority to review the adequacy of the White House’s recordkeeping practices, and that EOP, the Archivist and OA all have a duty to prevent the destruction of federal records.

CREW’s executive director Melanie Sloan said, “The Court has rejected the administration’s argument and upheld CREW’s right to sue the White House for failing to comply with the Federal Records Act. The White House, which values secrecy above nearly all else, finally will be held accountable for the millions of missing emails. This is a huge victory for government transparency and the American people.”

Only an imbecile charged would not “lawyer up.” Plenty of innocent people are charged and Pat Fitz who is an excellent litigator, works hard, and is about as straight an arrow as they come doesn’t win every case despite the fact that 94% of federal indictments end in pleas.

You top yourself as an idiot with every post. If Obama were involved with Blago’s alleged criminality which has a very long way to go right now despite the fact he appears 2nd day into the indictment to be crazy, do you think Pat Fitz would leave any stone unturned?

I assume your BOP guard job or whatever the hell you won’t reveal you did in “federal law enforcement” or job will lie about or fantasize you had has left you thinking Obama has some ledgal liability because the governor of Illinois has been freshly indicted and looks crazy on the transcripts that Pat Fitz released? I’d read those transcripts again where Blago said Obama is a mofo who won’t pay any attention to Blago.

Other than giving desultory support to Blago’s campaing during the year he was a State Senator Obama hasn’t had any invoolvment with Blago.

And here’s a fact. Pat Fitz is a pro at what he does. He’s at the top of his game as a litigating USA—many of them never litigate—Alexander didn’t; Barr didn’t at least not while they were at the Rusell Building.

If Pat Fitz thought for a moment Obama’s blackberry or any other form of communication had gold—he’d have dug by now.

And again since you feel empowered to grab what doesn’t require a subpoena why aren’t you using your eliptical connections as a purported “fed law enforcement” alumni to have Obama fried?

And btw—Pat Fitz has tons of subpoena power. He’s just stumbling ‘cause he doesn’t have your formidiable help right?

Corporal sure doesn’t appreciate the fact if he’s stepping on his dick over what can and can’t be subpoenaed to (I suppose) fulfill the Wingnut fantasy of somehow smearing criminality on Obama that if Pat Fitz though he had any substantive criminality from Obama or anyone in his camp, he has all the subpoena power and the unlimited resources of your tax money he needs. He also has FRCrP (got a clue what that means?) and FRE heavily weighted in his favor by Congress.

That’s why 94% of federal cases don’t go to trial—that and the ability to leverge with threats of far stiffer sentences to scare defendants from trial not to mention the cause of competent defense bar help and the meager amount of money doled out to FDPs for staff compared to DOJ.

I’m not your son. But you feel superior doing the same thing you did when you were 12 and didn’t want the other kids to figure out how many things made you wet your pants.

Here’s moreon the booming real estate market here in Georgia, right on the ajc.com home page. Check it out. Real boom we have going on.

The housing market is so bad that some banks and builders that had been business partners are now adversaries, and experts are using the dreaded “D” word.

Likewise, Eugene James, head of the Atlanta division of the research company Metrostudy, said the 22 metro counties it covers “are in a housing depression right now.”

James said sales closings were down 44 percent for the third quarter, compared to the same period last year, and housing starts had plunged 67 percent. The metro area also has about 148,000 lots with infrastructure but no homes — a 117-month supply, he said.“

A couple of points:

1) The U.S. Attorney only said “there was nothing in the complaint” implicating Obama and that the investigation continues.

2) You are obviously new on this blog so you don’t know my rules. If you want to have a fairly polite debate, I enjoy doing that very much. However, I will not continue to exchange posts with those who insist on name calling and personal attacks. Your choice.

Amazing isn’t it? And 99% of it is pretextual false hood.

What do I mean by that?

For example, notice how many posts begin with statements such as:

Since Bush lied about WMD’s…

Or…

Since Bush is a moron…

Or…

Since Bush stole the 2000 election…

See what I mean? And believe me, if you go back over Jay Bookman’s past editorials there are plenty of instances of the above.

What about the debate to establish the pre text? They don’t want to have that. They don’t want to debate certain “truths” that they know may be falsehoods.

For instance, when have you seen or read a debate about government missteps in the aftermath of Katrina? Never. You just hear pretextual statements that Bush and FEMA screwed up.

“since Bush and FEMA screwed up then…”

It’s a lot easier to make your left nut points if one has to assume certain unproven falsehoods up front.

Jay, I must compliment your creativity and imagination as this must be the 700 gazillionth time you have covered this ground.

Now I know you and your folks haven’t exactly figured out what to do about that declining circulation (to use a Palinism) “thing-a-ma-jig” so below is one suggestion.

PEOTUS and his handlers have alternatively said, with respect to Blago’s senatorial auction that, Obama provided “a few names for consideration” and that Obama did not speak with Blago.

Maybe the circulation “thing-a-ma-jig” would turn around if you folks practiced some hard hitting journalism like asking Obama whether he “suggested a few names” or had no contact, because the two are mutually exclusive.

The answer to that question might sell a few papers, whereas an acid-esque trip into putting a great President under truth serum won’t.

Just an idea.
