…and sportswriters still dream of playing center field
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The human ego, left unchecked, can lead to many a foolhardy decision. Case in point:
“HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews may be considering a run for U.S. Senate in 2010, a Pennsylvania Democratic party leader says.
The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported that Matthews met with state party leaders this past week in Washington to discuss a possible bid to unseat Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.
Party official Mary Isenhour said she left the meeting feeling that Matthews still hadn’t made up his mind.
The 62-year-old Matthews hosts MSNBC’s “Hardball” and provides political commentary on NBC’s “Today.” His contract with MSNBC expires in June.
Matthews, a Philadelphia native, ran unsuccessfully for a Pennsylvania congressional seat in 1974.”

Jay,
Matthews has more “air time” than Reagan and look how far Reagan got. In politics, a good portion of the battle is name/face recognition. Then again, perhaps the trend is changing with the election of Obama. I certainly am looking forward to a leader in office that, for one thing, stayed awake in economics class. What a pleasant change that will be — amongst others.

Matthews is an unctuous gooey doughboy.
It was funny when he got the best of that hillbilly hoser Zig-Zag Zell, though.
There’s gotta be someone better that can beat Specter.

The centerfielder often ends up a sportcaster…..so does the old quarterback and the retired duffer.
Why not play it backwards?
I suspect Chris Matthews would do a better job than Rick Santorum did.

Let me be the first to support Mr. Matthews as the Democrat nominee for the U.S. Senate representing Pennsylvania. He is something that most News-Types are not.
Chris Matthews is completely honest about his full and unquestioning support of all things Obama. And most things Democrat.
I think that P-E Obama is indebted to Mr. Matthews. P-E Obama should return to Matthews the same support that Matthews openly and in betrayal of all jounalistic ethics, gave to Presidential Candidate Obama.

Midori, are you ignorant or stupid and a hypocrite? Inquiring minds want to know.
When Chicken Hawk in Chief’s,(former President Bill Clinton), avoidance of military service was brought up, you mindless lefties claimed military service was not an issue. Yet immediately after he reached his 2 term limit, you liars have been using it as an issue for any Republican. Did you not know this (which would make you ignorant)? Perhaps (and most probably) you DO know this which makes you stupid (to think others aren’t aware of the facts and you can lir to us with immpunity) as well as a hypocrite for not holding the same standards for a republican as you do for a democrat.
I for one actually approved of the position taken during the Clinton campaign as far as Military service not being an issue for being President and wish you liars would try to remain consistent. There are plenty of reason’s I am voting for Jiom Martin over Saxby Chambliss and the defamatory crap you linked has nothing to do with them. Why do you far left fanatics lie when the truth would serve you better?

@@,
you just don’t get it.
the article was about Palin’s hypocrisy in her coming here to aid, assist and campaign for a notorious draft dodger and legislative obstructionist — all while her son is in harm’s way in the Middle East.
This man joined others in the Republican party in voting against much needed reforms and benefits for active duty military, veterans, and their dependents.
A great many have been killed and maimed fighting this phony “war”.
That’s one of the problems with you and your party.

Off Topic
I’ve waited a couple of days to let the dust settle (and the blood drain) before commenting on the India debacle.
It’s the same old story. Security is now being beefed up to an almost war status because of what 10 men did in a nation of millions and millions. If Indian security personnel had suggested what is being done right now three weeks ago they would have been admonished for being too draconian, trampling on rights, overextending the budget, etc., etc.
The same thing happened to us on 9/11.
Just one example - if someone had gone to Congress six months before and said we have intelligence that terrorists are going to hijack aircraft and fly them into buildings and we need 5,000 U.S. Air Marshals up and running ….. well, the would have been laughed out of the room …. too much money, another agency, etc., etc.
We never learn …. and we are asking for it to happen again.
Marines - stand by to repel boarders!

Not true Midori.
I remember when the discussion regarding the GI Bill was taking place here. Lots of discussion between RW, Paul, AmVet……a couple of others. I DID see the forest You however climbed one tree and decided to stay up there where it was safe.
There’s a whole lot of information to be had…..not just that which can be used for political purposes.
A conscripted military (yesterday’s) vs. a volunteer military (today’s). If I were Sarah Palin, I’d wanna know that my son was flanked by experienced troops rather than a constant rotation of new recruits.
Obama took the expedient route.
It’s a lot tougher to run the gauntlet in pursuit of a better bill.

Jay, From your article I quote these words, “They see the presidency in more symbolic terms, which means they value those candidates who epitomize America as they wish to see it.” Isn’t that what we just elected?? Sarah is America and I for one am tired of being bashed. She is a woman who has made it in a man’s world without money, an elite education, a father’s position, or a husband’s coattails and has the country alive with passion. America wants and needs leaders capable of making informed decisions, who know their values, can’t be compromised and love our country; Sarah is that kind of leader. Go SARAH!!!!!!!

Had I done something wrong, I would have come back here today offering apologies for my conduct, as I have done before.
But since that isn’t case and, on top of it all, I was insulted as “needing to grow up” with my comments being nothing more than “bile” and “contempt,” I request that the alleged rule breaking posts be put back up for all to see, so that we can all judge, on our own, what really constitutes unacceptable blog behavior.
Either that or we can further discover how arbitrary rules and regulations always seem to be imposed on one particular blogger.
Do not think that I haven’t figured out what is going on here-
The first way would be easier for me short-term; the other would be easier for me long-term.
One must wonder why this would be “hard” in the first place.
I mean really, this is a discussion blog, isn’t it? Differing opinions are welcome, aren’t they? Am I such a potent purveyor of wisdom that my comments cause the blog author to have fits and seizures? Surely your colleagues aren’t laughing in your face because of my infinite knowledge, are they?
Of course not, Bookman’s job is stressing because of all of the whiny liberals that call, email and write letters complaining about me.
What else could it possibly be?
We all saw who attached themselves to my leg on Thanksgiving and went to wailing, I won’t mention any names.
And what does it say of people such as this, so insecure in their own beliefs, so void of any tangible ideas, that the very thought of someone disagreeing with them brings forth not debate but instead calls for censorship and removal?
There is an easy way to prove my little theory incorrect, put the comments back up so that we can all see how “horrible” my conduct really was.
And I’m even willing to sweeten the deal, if the majority, not including any ACORN workers, should find that I crossed a line, I will never again post to this blog.
Deal?

The national security team scheduled to be announced today by President-elect Barack Obama is a serious, pragmatic group of people, and for that reason alone it provides a welcome contrast to the neoconservative radicals brought into power by President Bush.-Bookman, Urinal/Jihad
Excuse me but this is the Bush team.
Bruno voted in favor of the war for oil, remember?
Gates, Clinton and Jones come from very different professional backgrounds, but they share an understanding with the president-elect that diplomacy must be our primary means of engaging with the world, with military power held in reserve and used only as needed.
Yeah, like for the “surge” in Iraq that “Marxist, pacifist, naïve” Oblahmi opposed.
The coming world it describes is much more complicated, with many more moving pieces that the United States can perhaps influence but cannot hope to control.
It only took five hundred words to bring the outcast Marxists and pacifists back into the picture, this has to be some type of land speed record.

Nice quote. I thought unchecked ego was a requirement for higher office?
I’ll offer, though, that Mr. Mathews looked at a comedy writer coming within a micron of winning a Senate seat ant thought “wow, if voters’ll almost put him in office….”
At least Mathews has time in the Carter Administration and as a top aide to a House Majority Leader. But experience doesn’t matter - it’s the ‘vision’ thing, remember?
