Will Jan. 20 ever get here?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I don’t know if there’s a way out of this economic mess. But I do believe that Barack Obama is giving us our best shot at finding one.
He has named smart, experienced, hard-headed people to important positions. He seems to be thinking things through (although in uncharted waters like this, “decision-making” can be an inflated term for making an educated guess). He recognizes that a leadership vacuum exists at a critical point in our history, and he is attempting to fill it as best he can given that he won’t take office for almost two months.
Perhaps best of all, he understands the seriousness of the situation, and wants the American people to understand it as well.
“There are no shortcuts or quick fixes to this crisis, which has been many years in the making - and the economy is likely to get worse before it gets better,” he said today. “Full recovery won’t happen immediately. And to make the investments we need, we’ll have to scour our federal budget, line-by-line, and make meaningful cuts and sacrifices as well - something I’ll be discussing further tomorrow.”
In effect, Obama is serving much the same role in this crisis that President Bush served in the aftermath of 9/11, when Bush effectively rallied the nation behind him. And I suppose that’s a cautionary tale, because as later events demonstrated, getting the atmospherics right helps only in the short term; getting the decisions right and the people right is a lot tougher and more important in the long term.
For weeks before the election, it seemed like Nov. 4 couldn’t get here soon enough. But that was nothing compared to the wait for Jan. 20.

Heck with all the bail-outs - we need a buy out! Somebody buy ‘w’ out of the last eight weeks of his contract!
If the man had one grain of self-respect, he’d quit. He’d quit and return $3.2 million of welfare we’ve given him under the guise a salary. Based on the damage he’s done, this would still be a bargain.

I like this, the libs create a financial disaster with their freebie loan programs like Fannie Mac and then get to “ride to the rescue” behind their dimwit Wonder Boy, who has done nothing but frighten investors right out of the markets.
Get serious.
There is an Oblahma Bubble in the near future and if you toadies keep blowing the hot air up it’s behind, we’re in for a big bang when it pops.
I would be praying to the Lord if I were you, not pounding your chests, I’ve been feasting on all of the capital that was injected into the market but now it is time to get back out.

Tom Friedman in the NYT: This is the real “Code Red.” As one banker remarked to me: “We finally found the W.M.D.” They were buried in our own backyard — subprime mortgages and all the derivatives attached to them.
Friedman goes on to bemoan the lack of leadership right now. He wants Obama in now for “a huge injection of optimism and confidence that we can and will pull out of this with a new economic team at the helm.”
Bush is offering no leadership right now. What a loser.

The Geithner nomination would be “more of the same” of the worst aspects of the current Bush administration — more bailouts, more lack of transparency in the bailouts, and more corporate welfare. And the effect Geithner’s selection had on the market may also be similar to that of the announcements of other Paulson “rescues” — a temporary gain in the Dow followed by a backslide even further when investors realize that fundamental problems haven’t been solved and have in fact been exacerbated by interventionist policies.-AmSpec

The remaining Republicans in Congress would do well to pack their bags and vacate the premises for all the good they’ve done. If the Republican base is just going to whine and moan about every single thing that Obama does even before he’s elected, then let’s give them a better reason. Let’s really make the government one that is Democrat controlled. Besides, judging from the childish behavior of the Republican delegates from Georgia during the efforts to get the 700 billion dollar bailout passed, we would have been better off without them anyway. Instead of presenting any options other than doing nothing, they just moaned and groaned about how their Limbaugh-Gingrich constituency would not want them to do what they were elected to do. Blah, blah, blah. Poor little babies.

Yeah, let’s start the next 4 years-
Every Democratic president since Lyndon Johnson has driven millions of his erstwhile supporters into the GOP ranks, and there is no reason to expect that Obama will break this precedent. Indeed, the absurdly inflated hopes generated by Obama’s campaign practically guarantee that his tenure in the White House will leave many Democrats bitterly disappointed — some so bitter that they become ex-Democrats like me.-AmSpec
*Obama gained his margin of victory in large measure by enlisting the support of the disengaged, the disaffected and those too young to know better. Voters under 30 — who weren’t yet in high school when Bill Clinton was elected — went for Obama by a 2-to-1 margin. Many of these young Obama supporters will be among the first to feel the shock of discovering how wide is the chasm that separates their Hope from any Change that Obama can actually accomplish. *

Well, we all suspected as much for the last eight years but too bad to see it in print. Any more libs here want to express their admiration for the terrorists that attacked our country?
And remembering the last eight years, Democrats have been counting the minutes ever since George W. Bush was ELECTED by the people of America. Not once could libs express any support or work with policies or give any credit for many accomplishments. No sir! Run down Bush and America and the military but GET REVENGE!!
The weaklings of America have finally gotten their wish….inexperienced leader with retreads from a mediocre impeached President….all leading to a hands-out America.

You think I’m kidding about what an “education” means in America?
How can you vote responsibly if you don’t know the meaning of “free enterprise”?
That is the question posed in “Our Fading Heritage,” the survey on civic literacy released by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute Thursday at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The report found that only 54% of college graduates can correctly identify a free enterprise system as one in which individual citizens create, exchange, and control goods and services.
This year’s study allows a comparison between college graduates and those without higher education, and the results are ugly: college grads earned a failing grade only 13 percentage points higher than those with only high school diplomas.
Now ask them about “bad” America.
See if they don’t ace that quiz.

al-Gitmo: You may want to check outside of the fever swamps on this one.
Geithner became the go-to guy for failing financial firms, and was at the “center of action” for the AIG bailout, according to the New York Post. He “quarterbacked and advised” the government’s “taking control of tottering insurance giant AIG for a bailout deal,” the Post wrote. But more and more, it looks like Paulson and Geithner “quarterbacked” with a flawed playbook with AIG that moved the meltdown much further down the goal line.

What kind of magic does this man Rubin have? He was one of the key Democratic architects of the extreme financial deregulation that brought the economy to this pass. At Citi, he was one of the grand strategists of the speculation in securitized loans and off-balance-sheet gimmicks that has brought Citi to the edge of bankruptcy. Yet he continues to fall upwards. Surely Barack Obama must have noticed that Rubin is a false prophet. So why is his entire senior economic group a Team of Rubinistas?-Huff and Puff

The K-12 public education system is essentially wrecked. No longer can any professor expect an incoming college freshman to know what Okinawa, John Quincy Adams, Shiloh, the Parthenon, the Reformation, John Locke, the Second Amendment, or the Pythagorean Theorem is. An entire American culture, the West itself, its ideas and experiences, have simply vanished on the altar of therapy. This upcoming generation knows instead not to judge anyone by absolute standards (but not why so); to remember to say that its own Western culture is no different from, or indeed far worse than, the alternatives; that race, class, and gender are, well, important in some vague sense; that global warming is manmade and very soon will kill us all; that we must have hope and change of some undefined sort; that AIDs is no more a homosexual- than a heterosexual-prone disease; and that the following things and people for some reason must be bad, or at least must in public company be said to be bad (in no particular order): Wal-Mart, cowboys, the Vietnam War, oil companies, coal plants, nuclear power, George Bush, chemicals, leather, guns, states like Utah and Kansas, Sarah Palin, vans and SUVs.-Victor Davis Hansen

There’s a rickety bridge too broad in Barack’s crossover. If he sticks with the tax breaks for the middle class, what’s to say they won’t sock it away in today’s economic uncertainty? When he talks about the 2.5 million jobs rebuilding infrastructure, he’s drawing from Roosevelt’s New Deal. But FDR’s New Deal was received by a workforce trained in farming, construction and factory work. Our newest president’s plan will be drawing on office workers, computer programmers and a pool of specialists. From a cubicle or an office with a view to riding a jackhammer in mid-day highs just doesn’t sound feasible.
It will be an influx of foreign laborers that will be riding that government gravy train. Americans be damned.

If your life is empty and devoid of meaning, then by all means, create some boogeyman that you can “fight” to make yourself feel brave and useful, even if it is fake, but shoving it down everybody else’s throat?
HERE’S one popular vision for saving the planet: Roll out from under the sumptuous hemp-fiber sheets on your bed in the morning and pull on a pair of $245 organic cotton Levi’s and an Armani biodegradable knit shirt.
I might smoke some hemp but we ain’t sleeping in it.
Stroll from the bedroom in your eco-McMansion, with its photovoltaic solar panels, into the kitchen remodeled with reclaimed lumber. Enter the three-car garage lighted by energy-sipping fluorescent bulbs and slip behind the wheel of your $104,000 Lexus hybrid.
“Reclaimed” lumber, I like that, it’s almost as though any craftsman worth his salt would throw away a good used 2 by 6.
Hybrid is the new word for moron, a virtual sales pitch for the dull and dim Godless heathens, the easily led, those whose life lacks any meaning, notice how all the same folks that were selling gashog SUVs just a few short years ago, when they were all the rage, are now selling “green” stuff?

No one ever challenged him on it before.
The point is, he could make this go away immediately by requesting that the vault copy of his birth certificate be released to the SCOTUS for analysis. So simple.
Now that said, how come there are no records of his hospital birth or doctor of record ? To my knowledge those were not on the photocopy of the birth certificate released during the campaign but those items are on other birth certificates issued during that period.
In addition, I would imagine a doctor and/or attending nurses who remembered his birth (unusual circumstances) would have come forward by now.
And of course I have read reports of the sticky wickets involving some of his relatives years ago (when no one imagined he would run for POTUS) stating he was born in Kenya.

“WHO’S BEHIND THE SMEARS…..
David Bossie, who runs Citizens United, has paired with Floyd Brown for years. Bossie and Brown harassed the Clintons throughout Bill Clinton’s administration, with even George H.W. Bush calling his behavior in the 1992 presidential election (which included harassing the family of a recent suicide victim) “filthy campaign tactics.” After writing a 2000 book about Al Gore that went little-noticed, in 2004, Brown and Floyd Bossie, working as the group Citizens United, made a movie called Celsius 41.11 and ran television ads attacking John Kerry. In 1998, Bossie was fired from his job with the House Committee investigating Bill Clinton. When Bossie selectively released tapes, removing information that exonerated the Clintons, and improperly obtained phone records, even Newt Gingrich said he was “embarrassed for the conference at the circus that went on.”
Then-President George Bush: “We will do whatever we can to stop any filthy campaign tactics.” [Press Conference, 7/15/92]
Current President George W. Bush sent a letter to 85,697 major donors urging them not to contribute to the Bossie/Brown groups in 1992. [Washington Post, 7/15/92]
George H.W. Bush’s campaign, referred to Bossie, Floyd Brown, and their associates as “the lowest forms of life.” [Hunting of the President]
Newt Gingrich: “I’m embarrassed for myself, and I’m embarrassed for the conference at the circus that went on” under Bossie in the House investigation of Clinton-Gore campaign finances. [Washington Post, 5/7/98]
Dan Burton, Bossie’s Boss in the House: “He released information on Mr. Huang’s telephone records without my knowledge or approval. I have told him in no uncertain terms that I do not allow my staff to release any information, including documents, without my approval, and that I do not expect this to happen again.” [Roll Call, 11/25/96]
Floyd Brown, the leader of the National Campaign Fund, the Legacy Committee, Citizens for a Safe and Prosperous America and the Policy Issues Institute, once bragged he was part of the “the heart and soul of the right-wing conspiracy,” and has a history of surfacing every four years to make right-wing attacks against Democrats in presidential elections. Most infamously, Brown was responsible for the 1988 “Willie Horton” ad against Michael Dukakis. Brown harassed the Clintons throughout Bill Clinton’s administration, with even George H.W. WHO’S BEHIND THE SMEARS….
The birth certificate claim is disenfranchisement, which has been in effect since 1620, where blacks are concerned. Who could forget the 3/5th rule, or poll taxes, or election exams, same old stuff. Why don’t the people that cling to those feelings just come clean and admit they’re consumed with hate?

This morning I was thinking about what Obama’s been left to work with, and compared it to his predecessor.
I really did try to imagine what nasty stuff Clinton left for Bush. There were a couple of things. Obviously, you had the Cole attack that remained to be thoroughly investigated; you had a tapering-off economy, albeit one that was still in very good fundamental shape.
And beyond that? You had a government bringing in nearly enough revenue to pay as it went (ok, not if you subtracted the SS trust fund, but it was fairly close.)
And you compare it to what Obama’s got. Whew.
I really enjoy hearing folks like our “Dundee” tell us that “Yeah, on W’s watch but caused by LIBERAL policies that permitted/forced loans to those with poor qualifications…”, parroting garbage he’s been fed by Rush, Sean, and the Savage Weener. I enjoy hearing it because there isn’t a rational person living today who actually believes it; I enjoy hearing it because I have just watched a national campaign crash and burn, gloriously, trying to get a nation of voters to believe those lies.
I enjoy all that, but I’m not going to enjoy the pain we’re all going to experience adapting to these lean times. Hopefully, Obama’s administration will get those public works projects on board quickly, a whole lot of Americans will be back on the job, and we’ll get out of this mess with some semblance of our national identity and prestige intact.

What I love about the chicken littles who insist the Sky Will Fall the moment President Obama is sworn in - is they run in circles bleating nonsense as if anyone could follow thier aimless rants.
Might I offer that instead of randomly throwing feces against the wall like a caged animal - you should consider a single point and stick to it - perhaps someone would pay attention and respond with a conversation you both can learn from.
Then again, you can continue on your wandering journey to find a consistent message.
Consider this:
James Baker, the former secretary of state and current Republican eminence grise, made an amazing suggestion on “Meet the Press” Sunday — that Bush and Obama develop and announce a joint economic rescue program. It was a stunning acknowledgment of how weak the Bush presidency has become and how dangerous it would be to spend the next two months meandering from crisis to crisis.
But that’s the road we’re on. When I get frustrated with Paulson’s zigzags and reversals, with his overnight decisions to buy huge companies or write hundred-billion-dollar checks, I remind myself that he doesn’t really have a president to work for. The poor man may stumble here and there, but he’s dancing as fast as he can.

Sheesh. the birth certificate thing the best and only comment you have to lean on?
c’mon
George Bush has done quite enough damage. The majority of us are more than ready for him to step aside, and allow some competent people to start making decisions. I’m not sure anyone really knows how to fix the huge mess left by the Bush administration, but at least Obama will appoint competent advisors. Even then, it’s going to take time.
You Limbaugh parrots have consumed far too much of the koolaid. Obama doesn’t have the authority to make decisions until January 20th.
However, can anyone argue that the President-ELECT has not stepped his game up far earlier and far more effectively than any incoming president during a transition period?
Obama is working hard for the United States.

Obama has done more in the interim role than Bush has done in four years.
Bush is an ideological purist, someone who believes that govt shouldn’t play a vital role in bettering the lives of its citizens, unless of course those citizens are rich.
He’s been busy wrecking the country from the moment he took office, so it seems consistent that his crowning “achievement” would be an economic disaster of epic proportion. And by the way, Bush didn’t make these decisions alone. He was advised by a huge team of conservatives, so there’s plenty of blame to go around.

THE ECONOMY
(From The Mainstream Media)
Confidence in the system will not be restored as long as top officials fail or refuse to fully explain their actions.
Mr. Summers does not face Senate confirmation; Mr. Geithner does. The senators should press him for the answers that have been lacking. That is the only way to understand his philosophy and approach going forward.
Congress must play a more active role in crafting, analyzing and continuously monitoring all bailout efforts — current and those to come. Unlike President Bush, who ceded far too much power to his treasury secretary, Mr. Obama must challenge and question his advisers’ recommendations and decisions. He has chosen tough advisers. He must be even tougher than they are.

ABBA, Obama’s children were already in private school. “DUMMY”. Why should he have to take them out to please you. And why is it so important for the republicans to want that the rest of the world to fear them. Is the fear factor a way of compensating for your other short coming. For instance when people like you and Bush lack intelligence, you compensate by harming people. People like you are stupid, so instead of thinking your way out of a problem, you send thousands of soldiers to be disfigured, killed or become psychologically unstable for the rest of their lives. Not to mention the children and families that are destroyed in the process. And as for the economy when you only get threw school on your family name, and spend all your time drinking and womanizing you don’t have the sense to get the country out of economic hardship so what do you do. You give away Billions upon Billions to people who already have Billions upon Billions instead of putting the money where it can be used the most. So ABBA if you will be sorry when W leaves office you really need to crawl out of that hole and get a life. Because the one you got ain’t working for ya.

I support and second williebkind’s statements.
mister.earl, all you want to do is act like you are the most educated one on this blog and bring nothing to the table when responding.
As far as Obama, again, the only reason this empty suit won was because of race and this image thing that the bias media propped up so he would win. They never bashed him the way that they did Palin. Which, by the way, they should have based upon his past and current associations with Wright, Ayers, and Farrahakan, but no one seems to want to know the truth about these associations. Instead, he got a pass.
I’m not one who will cast a vote based upon skin color and Socialist ideas.
If McCain had of been Black, I would have voted for him. Instead, most nontax paying govenment dependent people cast their vote for someone who has made a lot of promises that he will not be able to keep! So, shame on them for buying into that.
I’m glad Bush was our President when we were attacked and not that spineless Clinton who did nothing when the USS Cole was hit! Again, Bush has made mistakes, and he has owed up to them. It is easy to armchair quarterback when you are not in the game.
Others have their opinions just like you, although we may not agree.

MAKING .. As noble as it might have been for Obama to send his girls to public school, it seems completely impractical. The Secret Service concerns are considerable, and making sure the girls are safe would probably place a burden on any public school, especially an urban public school. Private schools are better suited to the security requirements.
As far as you calling him a liar on taxes, consider he has yet to be sworn into office, he’s still the president elect!
GOP Secretary ??? How are your power point skills? Maybe you could qualify!

It’s going to be interesting to see all these Clintonistas that Obama is appointing in economic positions, deal with an economy WITHOUT an internet bubble to ride. Curiously, when some dweeb says that Clinton was an economic genius, I ask them to name just ONE economic initiative Clinton originated that led to prospertity. They can’t answer. (Just like the alledged “lies” Bush told to lead to war, there is no there there…doesn’t exist.) New Deal? UCLA just released a study [that confirms what Econ. 101 students realize in college] proving FDR’s policies deepened and extended the Great Depression by SEVEN YEARS. So, even though moonbat communists like Bookman want to crown Obama emperor…socialism does NOT produce prosperity; it demoralizes those industrious people and dis-incentivizes them from bothering to make the effort anymore. Socialism, is the lazy using the government to enable their parasitic behavior. This is why the Democrat constituency, is the poverty mindset…and don’t kid yourself, the Dims have a vested power interest in keeping as many people dependent and poor as possible. America, you were warned.

The RightWingnuts post pretty much whatever they want here, and if Bookman calls them on something, invariably he calls out someone on the decent, intelligent side of the argument, too.

The governments have been forging documents since the beginning. The government is a pro at it. I do not put it above liberals to hide the truth about any documents suggesting Obama is not a natural born citizen. America and tradition have no values in their idiology. I have doubt until the document is proven authentic. This should have been done prior to selecting Obama as a candidate.

Sitting here watching TV news briefs for the first time in weeks. So, what the heck is the “Office of the President-Elect”?
Why does this guy feel compelled to put on appearences? That stupid faux-presidental seal during the campaign, the faux-temple during the convention, the outsized stadium victory party after the election, and now a fake pre-presidental office.
Is he not comfortable with who he is? He is going to be the President of the United States for Christ’s sake. Stop with the pretending already.

The simple fact is that, yes, while we are elated that Obama has been elected, he hasn’t taken office yet. The pardons keep coming, but that could all be a ruse to make us think they are leaving office on Jan. 20- what if, oh I don’t know, something ‘terrible’ happens on January 15th and Bush proclaims himself President for Life? Flock Of Sea Bass, You sound like an A-S-S. What you just said makes no sense, you are as uneducated as (making, willieb, curious gal, and Abba put together). “SORRY GUYS” but you know your stupid, i’m only stating the obvious. Asking what the “Office of the President-Elect” is that’s like Saxby asking what a recession is. Or Bush asking how to spell his middle name “W”. Or Sarah Palin asking “What country is Africa in”? As for him being a fake president. Anyone with half a brain knows every president goes through this process before taking office. If you had paid attention in class instead of throwing spit balls you would know that this is a transition period and that this office can not just be handed over after the election. The president-elect edifies himself so on day one he can fix the mess the last bafoon “W” made when he was in office. He’s just showing you how it should have been done from the beginning. And how to do it with style and class. And when he opens his mouth W’s IQ drops about 50 points. So don’t hate the man hate the game.

What a bunch of hypocrites. For you ideologues know I voted for the man. I find the pseudo-trappings of an office he doesn’t yet hold offensive. He doesn’t need that crap. Reminds me of Nixon’s outfitting the White House guards in those ridiculous dress outfits.
As for you tiff, there is no official “Office of the President-Elect”. He has a transition team. Once again, he doesn’t need fake symbols to enhance his role. We all know who he is. If he truly thinks they are needed, then we have elected the wrong man. He has a transistion team. Once again, he doesn’t need fake offical symbols to enhance his role. We all know who he is. If he truly thinks they are needed, then we have elected the wrong man.

What’s Wrong With This Picture?
Of course if Obama fails at his lofty mission to turn the country economy on the path to productivity there will be dancing in the streets led by Limbaugh and Hannity
There will be mass celebrations trumpted by all the people who prayed and hoped for Obama to fail from day one. The screams of “I told you so” will drown out everything else.
Strange thing - These are the same people who chant “USA, USA, USA…”
Obama can not only be the blame for his first term but the 8 years of Bush as well.

In the svheme of things, the graphic design and set design elements that you are so fixated on are minimal.
In the same way the Republican sought to make a huge deal of the columns included in the Denver set design - you miss the intent was to find something - ANYTHING - they could grasp - because they were devoid of any message.
The Republican strategy to find fault with any perceived flaw in the Obama campaign seems not to have worked so well.
While your attention is riveted on logos and symbols, you miss the work that is going on to hire some of the most brilliant minds available to the new administration.
But that is not important. It is more essential to find fault with a person rather than support them - and all this - BEFORE he takes the Oath of Office.

Flock of Bass, there is no official “Office of nit-wit elect” either but Bush was elected to that one twice. As for the fake symbol comment you made, if Obama branded a big “O” on his you-know-what, as a symbol of who he is and what he stands for it wouldn’t matter to me. If he can get us out of this economic mess and this unrighteous war, I will forever be certain that we elected the right man. You see thats why McCain lost, he had people worrying about a bunch of who-shot-john, that mattered to none of us who are losing our jobs homes and savings. Office of president elect or transition team. When you think about it, none of it matters. You put peoples mind on a path to nowhere instead of talking about things that matter. When Obama gives a press conference talking about what he wants to do and how he wants to take this country in a better and different direction, people like you start talking about whats on the podium in front of him instead of listening to his message. He makes a lot of sense, but you don’t want to hear that because your brain won’t process anything that is logical. Case in point, when Obama was traveling the country talking about the economy, healthcare, unemployment, and the war, McCain and Palin had you idiots worrying about what school his kids would attend. Or whether he was an elitist. Or why he didn’t wear a flag pin. Mister Earl is exactly right with his 1:09 post if he were sitting at home doing nothing they would say he had no plan and that he was just plain lazy. He is both intelligent and visionary-that is the only thing that scares you about him. We are a great nation, and we don’t have to use fear to prove it. We just proved it by making Obama our president.

Making, you are right war is war. But just what if you came home and found someone assaulting your wife and daughter would you say, I don’t believe in violence so heck let him do as he pleases. Or would you pick up you glock and plant one where it hurts. It amazes me how many people say they don’t believe in war or violence, but would not hesitate to go off if they were the victims. But let a country give safe haven to people who killed thousands of our citizens and everyone gets sensitive. If you can declare war on someone who invades your home, why is it not okay for the president to declare war on a country harboring known terrorist. There is a difference between Iraq and Afghan, one is harboring terrorist the other is not. That’s why we should not be in Iraq, but in Afghan. “GET IT”. If not f it. I have to finish these reports for tomorrow.
