Hillary taking State Department

The high-profile seats in the Obama Cabinet are filling up: Clinton at State, Geithner at Treasury, Richardson at Commerce, joining Holder at Justice and probably Daschle at Health and Human Services.

They’re all strong picks — Wall Street in particular seems pleased by Geithner, head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. These are smart, competent people.

Personally, I’m a little surprised that Clinton chose to take the job and leave her Senate seat, but reports are she wasn’t all that happy as one of 100 anyway. Some politicians are born legislators, others are meant to run things. I think she’s the latter, and apparently she thinks so too.

She has taken on the most difficult job. She has the duty of helping to negotiate the peace and oil sharing in Kurdish Iraq, and deal with the Kurds in Turkey, Hamas and peace in Israel, two wars, nuclear reachings by Syria and Iran, and so much more. If she succeeds, she will deserve the Nobel Prize. I think it was a wise move on Obama’s part to pass this one to her.

It’s like debating a small child or more accurately, a male labrador retriever. No matter what you say, he’ll continue to hump your leg, knowing with certainty that if he just humps long enough, your shoes will bear puppies. All you get is a sticky leg.”

I never knew that about a labrador retriever, or any other dog, mostly because I boot that as-s about 50 yards down range the instant they give my leg the eye.

Try to recall, jay…….the vast differences between her foreign policy stance and those of PrezE OBlahMa’s early in the campaign.

There were plenty of conservative pundits who would have preferred Hillary’s hawkish policies over those of “the dove” OBlahMa’s.

But once OBlahMa promised to immediately withdraw from Iraq, Hillary was no longer viable to your left-wing bloggers. Nosiree!!! They engaged in a vicious internet campaign to toss her. Just ask Getalife.

Guess what?

Being president is about control, and tell me who ever controlled Bill or Hillary Clinton. They can’t control each other. … I think it’s because Warren Buffett and Paul Volcker and others have convinced Obama, ‘You’re going to have to focus like a laser on the economy. That’s issue Number One. And give Hillary and Bill the world.’ … I think people are fantasizing or smoking something if they think Joe Biden’s going to call Hillary Clinton up and say, ‘This is what we want you to do.’- Bob Woodward

Good job so far Mr. Obama

I still like Clinton on the Supreme Court. She’ll do fine at State.

Love Tom at HHS. A smart, talented liberal. A very strong choice. Very cool.

I like Richardson, Geithner I’m still studying. Rahmbo was a brilliant choice. Kerry gets Foriegn Relations. Waxman gets Energy and Commerce.

I love the Obama A.R.T’s. Great Idea.

President Elect Barack Obama continues ti impress me.

It must be impressing the loyal opposition, there’s an awful lot of screeching going on.

As a conservative, I never hated Bill Clinton as much as others of my leaning, but let’s be honest…

between 1992 and 2000 the US economy boomed because of the dot.com bubble, not because of the President.

A trained monkey could have been the President in the 90’s and the Dow Jones still would have soared.

In fact, an argument can be made that Clinton’s policies stifled the economy during his tenure.

I believe in giving a man his due, but the economy boomed in the 90’s in spite of Slick Willy, not because of him.

Clinton on the Supreme Court from Ms. Godzilla.

Qualifications—essentially none.

Out of Yale law school>takes and flunks the D.C. Bar (one of the few on the planet)>does she go back and courageously face t again—hell no. It’s not anything she put in her campaign messages.

What about anything Hillruh has ever said makes anyone think she’s qualified to be on the S. Ct.? Clarence the Pinpoint Hick Thomas who has never asked a question at oral argument isn’t qualified by George H.W. Bush appointed him as a token and he promptly proceeded to disenfranchise African Americans, the downtroddenm, and the poor and women’s rights more than any other justice in the history of the Court.

Hillruh is equally unqualified to be Sec State or on the S. Ct.

I think Senator Clinton lacks credibility on the world stage. The reports from the presidential campaign of her coming under sniper fire that were later debunked do not help bolster her image.

Also, some of the developing countries she could potentially deal with may see her as a representative of her husband, for better or worse. There are places where he is loved (Ghana, Rwanda and, of course China), and places where he is hated (Sudan, for example). If she were starting from a neutral position, it could be easier.

In some ways, it is a disadvantage to the nation that this is a political position, rather than one that is filled by career diplomats from Foggy Bottom.

Hillary an Obama Cabinet Member - What a Surprise?

Interesting that in the last couple of weeks since the Obama transition team let loose the trial balloon about Hillary’s “invitation” by President-elect Obama to be his Secretary of State, no one has mentioned a tie of that key cabinet position to the sudden and surprising exit she made at the Democratic National Convention in September paving the way for an easy nomination of Obama as the party’s presidential standard bearer. Guess we now know why. Either Obama, or the powers-to-be of the Democratic party, cut a deal with her. Go quietly, let Obama gain the nomination without opposition, support his candidacy, and we’ll give you whatever you want in the new administration.

Truth be told that even as a staunch supporter of the Republican party philosophy, I hope Obama truly is successful. Heaven only knows we need a rebound from the poor choices that Bush made in his advisory team and his often-blind following of the advice they gave him over the post- 9/11 years. If Hillary is as good at international relations as our liberal media leads us to believe. and if her husband, ex-President Bill can truly be muzzled and will keep a low profile during these next four years, Hillary as a cabinet member will possibly prove to have been a good choice. I sure hope those two “ifs’” prove to be the case - and the appointment not simply the result of a “deal” cut during the Democratic National Convention.

Wow, this is some change for sure!!! Why oh why didn’t I vote Obama, and believe his message of “Change” and “Yes We Can”? Obama Change:

Change Hillary from Senator into a Secretary of State;

Change Eric Holder into Number 1 slot at Justice Department. He held the No. 2 slot in President Bill Clinton’s administration. Maybe there were other criminal elements other than Mark Rich that were overlooked the first time and need to be ‘cleaned up’ now;

Other Cabinet selections so far include former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota as secretary of health and human services; wow, more change. Just like Gore losing his home state of Tennessee in the 2000 election, and thus the presidency, ‘local knowledge’ by his home state voters got this loser tossed from the Senate for being too liberal . Nice choice there.

Officials said New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson had emerged as a likely pick as commerce secretary. Wow, the change picks here just keep stacking up!

Economic posts also seemed likely for Obama’s top two economic advisers during his campaign, Austan Goolsbee and Jason Furman.

Goolsbee, among other things which at face value seem harmless enough, is otherwise known for advocating an automated tax system, in which the I.R.S. sends taxpayers a document informing them how much they owe rather than a blank tax form. Now this in the hands of a Democratic Congress represents apparently the ultimate blank check, ‘just gimme your wallet’, or, ‘how much do you have -total- yes, that is your bill.’ Now I must say that this is a change you can be afraid of.

Furman, In 1996, while he was a graduate student at Harvard, was hired by economist Joseph Stiglitz to serve for a one-year stint as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy in the Clinton Administration. CHANGE, MORE CHANGE!!!!!

While speculation has been rampant about most top-level appointments, there has been relatively little about Obama’s choice for defense secretary. His aides encouraged speculation before the election that Robert Gates, who now holds the position, would remain in office for an interim period. - Rumor mill has William Ayers as an insider darkhorse.

Here you go lefty wingnuts, your fevered list of changlings so far. Suck on it.

November 22, 2008 9:20 AM | Link to this

The Corporal on Hillary:

A demagogue is defined as “someone who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions and prejudices of the people”.

I already have a multitude of reasons why I would never support Hillary Clinton for anything including her stance on the rights of unborn children, her disdain for the U.S. military and her socialist touch on every program or policy she proposes. However, if for no other reason, her unbridled demogoguery at the end of the 2000 Presidential election showed me just how far she would go in a disingenuous and even dangerous effort to gain popular support.

President Bush lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote and thus the election; the U.S. Supreme Court solidifying his victory with a narrow 5 to 4 ruling. Then Mrs. Clinton, a Yale Law School graduate who knew better, angrily insinuated to the American masses that Vice President Gore had been robbed of the election since he won the popular vote. She even stated that one of her first acts as a U.S. Senator would be to propose legislation eliminating the electoral college (she thankfully failed in that attempt). I guess she felt she possessed more wisdom than James Madison and our other founding fathers.

Unfortunately, the great majority of American voters are totally ignorant of the purpose of the electoral college and the incredible history of how this country was founded. Hillary used this sad ignorance to appeal to the public’s fears and to incite them during a time of Constitutional crisis when Florida’s electoral votes were still in doubt and the rule of law and calm needed to be promoted. She knew full well the electoral college was instituted to protect the influence of the smaller states, that those states would never have signed the Constitution without it and that it prevents one region of the country from dominating others in being able to choose a President. It forces a Presidential candidate to appeal to the nation as a whole as opposed to just densely populated areas. In effect, it attempts to bring us together as a nation rather than dividing us as a direct popular vote would.

This is the United STATES of America not the United PEOPLE of America; it is thankfully a constitutional republic and not a pure reactionary democracy and there’s a big difference. Our present “electoral system” allowing the States to have a proper and constitutional role in electing a President mitigates demagoguery. Hillary’s desire for a “popular vote” system would allow demagoguery to thrive.

She showed me her true colors back then in her blatant effort to do anything in a quest for power and that reveals the naked soul of a dangerous demagoguerette.

The pendulum doth tilt the other way again. Look at it this way, GOPers: In eight years, everyone will be sick of this bunch and it’ll lurch back to the right again. I still say that the future is non-ideological, that we need a president focused on problem-solving and not filling political slots. Obama is making noise about being that guy, especially with his national security picks, but I dunno if the Dems in Congress will play along. The guy who best fits the postpartisan mantle is Mike Bloomberg. But I can’t figure out which party would want to embrace him as a candidate down the road. But the politics of the future may be less about defining oneself as conservative or liberal and more about filling the potholes and making the trains run on time.

Enough Said

Please read this carefully, that is, if you can read….and in your best usage, please share what this exerpt means to you:

“President-elect Barack Obama’s picks thus far are experienced, capable, smart and pragmatic.

Those adjectives apply to New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (State Department), Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (Homeland Security), former deputy attorney general Eric Holder (Justice), former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle (Health and Human Services) and — the most recent leakees —

Timothy F. Geithner, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (Treasury), and retired Marine Gen. James L. Jones (national security adviser).

The assemblage so far also is diverse, and in the most gratifying way, which is to say, in a way that seems naturally occurring: No one can look at any of these selections and think that gender or race was the driving factor in the selection.

A common thread among most of these selections is a deep understanding of the legislative process and congressional players.”

Yea, I’m afraid that my taxes will contiune to go up so I can support lazy government dependent people like you, and our military will contiuned to be BASHED by this new change that these people speak of. Let’s see the last two years Congress was controlled by the Democrats and have done nothing for anyone. Now, these idoits are in office!

“I was not stupid enough to vote for a NONEXPERINCED LEFT WINGED HACK that socializes with Racist, and known Terrorists!”

Call It Like It Is - are you any kin to Sarah Palin?

It certainly sounds like the same aimless and baseless rhetoric that lost the election for the Wordsmith Of Wasilla and her crew who can see Russia from their back doors.

While you are railing with the same ignorance, Obama is composing a brilliant assemblage of experts to tackle the issues that challege The United States Of America.

And all you have is “NONEXPERINCED LEFT WINGED HACK”?

One more thing. Just in case you were wondering, “NONEXPERINCED” is not a word. (Another point for the Georgia education system)

Perhaps you could spend more time witih educating yourself than labelling Obama a “hack”.

Don’t you just hate smart people?

As far as labeling, his lack of a record speaks for himself along with his ASSOCIATIONS, (Wright, Ayers, Farrakahan)!

I’ll sit back like all of the others and we shall see America sink even lower once his precious four years are up!

Call it like it is sounds like the extinct Dodo bird I have referenced many times in these posts. If you thought these past eight years have been so brilliant I suggest you go back in a time machine and live them. In fact, take AJC/DNC, Dusty and all the other buffons on here with you!

Obama’s cabinet picks have so far been right on the money. In fact, there is talk about him delaying the repeal of the “tax cuts for the rich” because of the economy. This doesn’t sound like a “tax and spend liberal” to me. He is making sound, pragmatic decisons based on where America presently stands fiscally. Counter that with Dubya, who has all but thrown his hands in the air like chicken little, not having a clue as what to do.

He has also laid out a jobs program, putting it on a fast track to get our nation moving again. Doesn’t sound like someone giving out free money to people on the goverment dole to me.

What you idiots need to realize is that this is a new day, our state BETTER come to the reality that this is a new day and if monkeys like you and the others mentioned don’t get on board, you and this state will be swept away like trailer trash hillbillies in a tornado!!

ASSOCIATIONS?

While you pull yourself from from Fox News. Here are Obama’s “Associations” as you call them. Deal with the truth and not the panic.

On January 20 Barack Obama (Columbia, Harvard Law) will take the oath of office as his wife, Michelle (Princeton, Harvard Law), looks on proudly.

Nearby, his foreign policy advisers will stand beaming, including perhaps Hillary Clinton (Wellesley, Yale Law), Jim Steinberg (Harvard, Yale Law) and Susan Rice (Stanford, Oxford D. Phil.).

The domestic policy team will be there, too, including Jason Furman (Harvard, Harvard Ph.D.), Austan Goolsbee (Yale, M.I.T. Ph.D.), Blair Levin (Yale, Yale Law), Peter Orszag (Princeton, London School of Economics Ph.D.) and, of course, the White House Counsel Greg Craig (Harvard, Yale Law).

Already the culture of the Obama administration is coming into focus.

As much as you resent these overeducated people, you may find yourself impressed by the Obama transition.

Other OBAMA ASSOCIATIONS including (but not limited to) Colin Powell, Oprah Winfrey, Dwight Howard, Bill Richardson, Andrew Young, Bruce Springsteen, Julius Erving, Muhammad Ali, Sarah Silverman, John Legend, ME and about 4 million other proud Americans will be looking on as well from The National Mall.

Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh, and his myopic minions, will be somewhere turning beet red in the face as his neck tightens into a knot.

Associations?

You funny.

ASSOCIATIONS (The Final Word)

Tell It Like It Is

If you pay any attention to the news, you would note that President-Elect Barack Obama has hired open-minded individuals who are persuadable by evidence, not political motive.

There are many people on the Obama team with practical creativity. Any think tanker can come up with broad doctrines, but it is rare to find people who can give the president a list of concrete steps he can do day by day to advance American interests.

Dennis Ross and Rahm Emanuel have this capacity, as does legislative liaison Phil Schiliro.

Call It Like It Is - simply invoking the name of Reverend Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers to scare people is so last month. What’s next - the brothers at his Chicago barbershop?

That scare tactic didn’t work to win the election - and it won’t work to distract anyone with a brain from the work ahead to repair the economy

By Call It LIke It Is

You still have not answered my question earlier about your savor, MORON!

We still do not know who the real Obama is.

Yes, his associations.

He sat in a Racist church for over twenty years and claims that he did not know that Rev Wright is A HATE & BLAME AMERICA & A RACIST?

That sounds like the liar Clinton telling America that he did not have sexual relations with the Monica L.

Give me a break, and yet, there was no out cry from America to kick this bum out of office. However, we can compare Bush to Hitler, bash Palin and her family, and the Dems seem to all get a pass!

Next, Obama has ties to Bill Ayers & Farrahakan, and the media does not press him on these associations or dig up the actual truth on this guy. Instead, they just take his word on it like Clinton’s.

Moreover, Obama has no real experience on making hard decisions as far as the total impact on people, the military, and foreign relations. Instead, he disrespected the office of the current administration by going around the world trying to be an apeaser.

I’m not scared, just ashamed that a lot of the American public actually bought into this image & a empty suit.

Finally, this last idea of creating 2.5M jobs to build bridges and improve Hwys, who do you think is going to pay for all of this?

ALL OF US WHO ACTUALLY PAY TAXES!

I’m not trying to change your way of thinking, just trying to educate you. Anytime a person comes out and indicates that the solution to America’s problems today is to RAISE TAXES, is not what I nor most want to hear or have as our leader of the nation! Robin Hood’s ideas or better yet Marxism or Socialist ways of thinking does not appeal to me. This class envy crap as got to stop! Most of the tax burden is paid by the rich. The problem is the government dependent do not pay taxes, but yet, will go to the polls to vote for skin color rather that substance.

Finally, FOX News is the only news media that will actually report the facts, unlike most of the liberal biased media.

Again, most that voted for this guy did not vote on his ideas or issues, but simply they voted on race and an image thanks to the Bias Media like the AJC and most major networks.

As far as failing, they (Media) will not allow Obama to fall on his face. They will contiune to prop him up just like they did with Clinton.

You can blame Wall Street’s problems and trace this mortage crisis right back to the Democractic Party during the Clinton years.

I’m done with you.

MAD MAGAZINE and Fox News Are Bout Equal

Absolutely all that needs to be said by Call It Like It Is:

“Finally, FOX News is the only news media that will actually report the facts, unlike most of the liberal biased media”

That about sums it up. Anyone who forwards Fox News as the only legitimate source of news deserves to be put on a pedestal with Alfred E Neuman and The Wasilla Board of Regents.

Did you REALLY say Liberal biased media?

Take a look at the SCOREBOARD

Call It Like It Is

What you are missing about how information is disseminated and shared is that the “liberal biased media” (what ever netwroks that includes) was not the major player in the 2008 presidential election.

Based on the research, the internet IS mainstream media and the extent the Obama campaign actiivated new media - determined how information was checked and cross referenced. Precisely why Wright and Ayers were non-issues to people concerned about issues.

The attempts to paint Obama into a corner with any questionable people failed because intelligent people did the homework and decided for themselves.

They were NOT led by the nose by ANY network or talk show host or so-called expert.

Rush Limbaugh pied pipered himself into an irrelevance that will only shrink as younger, more educated (and optimistic) voting-age citizens throw off the bias of their parents.

Our sons and daughters will not have the negative, hate laced, juvenile conversation that you seem intent on preserving. Isn’t that great?

Whether you kick and scream to the tantrums of Limbaugh and Hannity it will not matter in 2009 and beyond because the next generation will only gain more voice as older heads pass on. The diversity of the country will dramatically outnumber those who fear change.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life as a US citizen.

Enjoy The Inaugural Parade on January 20.

I certainly will

mister.earl you have just got to be kidding - You are not serious ! The main stream media was and is in the Tank for Obama, they elected him. He is there President of choice. Time will tell but I can assure you there will be no retractions aired or printed. If the results are not good the media will run and hide as usual. The media will if fact bring Obama down at the first sign of his imminent failure and they will do this to cover their failure. I hope he is successful for all our sakes but again, the media in large part won the election for him.

FAMILY MATTERS

Razmus - the Obama family prime concern is protect his daughters from idiots who would do them harm. As a non-parent, that may be something you cannot understand. If you are a parent, your kids have my sympathy.

Like all diplomats living in Washington DC, security can be managed much more effectively in a private school environment accustomed to the heightened security.

This is a family matter.

OBAMA

“A great judgment has to be made now as to just how big and bad the situation is,” says Jeffrey Garten, the Yale School of Management professor of international finance. “This is a crucial judgment. Do we think that a couple of hundred billion more and couple of bad quarters will take care of this problem, or do we think that despite everything that we have done so far — despite the $700 billion fund to rescue banks, the lowering of interest rates and the way the Fed has stepped in directly to shore up certain markets — the bottom is nowhere in sight and we are staring at a deep hole that the entire world could fall into?”

If it’s the latter, then we need a huge catalyst of confidence and capital to turn this thing around. Only the new president and his team, synchronizing with the world’s other big economies, can provide it.

“The biggest mistake Obama could make,” added Garten, “is thinking this problem is smaller than it is. On the other hand, there is far less danger in overestimating what will be necessary to solve it.”

Conventional wisdom says it’s good for a new president to start at the bottom. The only way to go is up. That’s true — unless the bottom falls out before he starts.

The world is ready for change to something more intelligent

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper cautioned Obama against plans to rework the North American Free Trade Agreement, saying it would worsen a global financial crisis.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said he hoped Obama would recognize the importance of U.S.-China ties while treading carefully on the thorny issue of Taiwan.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon, warned delegates at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, “The next U.S. administration must assume leadership in a very firm manner—not just for Americans but for the whole world,”

What a joke was pulled on the American people by the 97 percent of the blacks who voted blindly for a man without executive experience and any real business skill and whose votes consisted mostly of “PRESENT”, thats all just present. Even now he can’t speak up. When asked what he recommended for the auto industry, he replied “I am having corned beef”. “But January 20th is our chance to begin anew, with a new direction, new ideas and new reforms that will create jobs and fuel long-term economic growth.”

It is evident that Obama makes people with small brains very angry. They, like you, have a difficult time wrapping their minds around something so improbable that it invokes images of the sky falling, dogs sleeping with cats - and their narrow-minded world coming to an abrupt end.

Most important, the Obamas and (Desiree) Rogers will develop creative ways to bring a broad spectrum of people through the White House, “so it’s the people’s house again,” Jarrett said. “This campaign engaged a lot of people in ways they had not engaged before.
