Secret Service nicknames Obama

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Secret Service has adopted the code name “Renegade” for President-elect Barack Obama.

That no doubt disappoints Paul Broun, who was pushing for “Adolph.”

**To my “friends” out there.

Actually, the names are chosen by WHCA (White House Communications Agency) or at least they used to be.

Quick funny story I think is o.k. to tell now………..

Back in 1975 I was standing by our office teletype machine (yes - no computers then) when the list for that presidential campaign’s new code names came over the wire. Back then it was much more important because our radios weren’t incrypted.

Anyway, this was the list that had Deacon as the code name for then Governor Carter. Low and behold the name for Governor Wallace was Dynamite! I turned to my agent buddies and said, “Guys, that will last about 10 minutes.” Sure enough, a new teletype came out about two hours later changing his code name - which escapes me now.

Can’t you just hear the radio transmission? “Roger, we have Dynamite at this location”!

It just wouldn’t have worked ………… :o)

O.K.

To some, the media was once again playing into the hands of al-Qaida. But forced to look further by pressure from the Afghan government and the media, the U.S. military discovered that the Afghani version of events appears to have been closer to the truth. Because of that discovery, U.S. rules involving use of air power have changed for the better, reducing the risk of civilian casualties and thus improving American hopes for success in the region.-kookman

The day after this battle against the Taliban, the AJC blared that US Forces had killed 90 civilians and, if memory serves, 60 of those were children.

Pure, unadulterated Taliban propaganda.

Sure, the Americans finally admitted to 33 “civilan” deaths with the caveat that the Taliban regularly dress up in Burkas and stay close to civilians to purposefully draw American fire upon those civilians.

I go even further and fault the military for making such an admission, no one knows how those 33 “civilians” became dead, who is to say that the Taliban didn’t kill them and use their bodies as props to weaken their enemy, the US Armed Forces?

So here we are, we all know that the Taliban have no compunctions with killing innocent civilians, that they fight hiding behind civilians, that they dress up as civilians.

Do tell us Jay, whose fault is it that there were dead “civilians” from the fight in Azizabad?

(I already know the answer, by the way.)

Ayers ends with the scene of rejoicing as he and Dohrn watched the television images of America’s defeat in Vietnam. “We were overjoyed,” he writes, and they “spent several days celebrating, laughing and crying.” Today, they still go every March 6 to put flowers on the site of the Village townhouse where their own bombs destroyed their comrades’ young lives. Mr. Bookman,

I will show some respect for addressing you in this context. I will again post a challenge for you on this Veteran’s Day and will eliminate some of the rhetoric that was present in the post that you pulled this morning that was disrespectful to your liberal bloggers.
Challenge to you and your liberal staff……

Tell Lukovich to write a cartoon appropriate for Veteran’s Day instead of another Bush bash.

Approach Cynthia and remind her that it is Veteran’s Day and not some “we will overcome event” that she just cannot seem to shake. She is in a rut, Jay, and you are right there with her.

Say to us who respect and admire the service that John McCain gave to this country that he is a respected veteran and that he deserves the respect of all patriotic Americans. Maybe have Cynthia add a comment. Then apologize for all of the hate filled innuendo, the half truths and the vile comments that have been posted by all of your liberal bloggers over the last several months regarding John McCain that you allowed to be posted and were complicit in their context. I mentioned some names this morning….. certain of them are legend in their rhetoric that all of us who communicate on this blog will recognize.
Do these things and then I will support your comments for our veterans and their sacrifice to our country and I will believe that you truly appreciate what those in the military do for it’s citizens. Until then….. stay tuned.

I can simply choose to not listen or not give them credence.

Hey!!!!! my post got lost.

Thanks Andy! The news about Michael Steele has left me smiling from ear to ear. It should have been Michael’s the first go round. Bush really ticked me off when he appointed Martinez, was it? Michael was gracious and uncomplaining. Stuck to his principles.

I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!

Mrs. G’s WSJ link reminded me of something.

*Things were different as recently as 20 years ago. Back then, Ronald Reagan made it cool to be a Republican — it wasn’t just his specific policies, but the timeless truths he so eloquently gave voice to, and upon which his policies were based. That’s the Republican Party we must re-establish.

Since, like Michael, I too believe that Reagan was able to deliver eloquently, his principles, I’ll share this.

I had no knowledge of the Baby Doe in Indiana until I read this commentary from Reagan.

“The real question for him and for all of us is whether that tiny human life has a God-given right to be protected by the law — the same right we have.”

“What more dramatic confirmation could we have of the real issue than the Baby Doe case in Bloomington, Indiana? The death of that tiny infant tore at the hearts of all Americans because the child was undeniably a live human being — one lying helpless before the eyes of the doctors and the eyes of the nation. The real issue for the courts was not whether Baby Doe was a human being. The real issue was whether to protect the life of a human being who had Down’s Syndrome, who would probably be mentally handicapped, but who needed a routine surgical procedure to unblock his esophagus and allow him to eat. A doctor testified to the presiding judge that, even with his physical problem corrected, Baby Doe would have a “non-existent” possibility for “a minimally adequate quality of life” — in other words, that retardation was the equivalent of a crime deserving the death penalty. The judge let Baby Doe starve and die, and the Indiana Supreme Court sanctioned his decision.”

And comparing the pro-life movement to the perseverance in The Dred Scott Decision?????

O-:MGoodness! I was so inspired…..so motivated.

I’M SO HAPPY!

THANK YOU ANDY!

4) Shooting them in the back of the head.

Now I didn’t think of this one until now, yikes, you could solve your little problem AND prove that you aren’t gutless wonders all at once.

Hmmmmmm.

By golly it just ain’t a good time for the image of the American South these days, is it boys?

I’m mean, doggone it, ye got the New York Times with that dawgone rantin over heahl:

Fear of the politician with the unusual name and look did not end with last Tuesday’s vote in this rural red swatch where buck heads and rifles hang on the wall. This corner of the Deep South still resonates with negative feelings about the race of President-elect Barack Obama.

And then ya got that Newsweek over here just a hollerin’:

after nearly eight years of a president who could barely form a coherent sentence, much less a strategic thought. We can finally go back to respecting logic and reason and studiousness under a president who doesn’t seem to care much about what is “left,” “right” or ideologically pure. Or what he thinks God is saying to him. A guy who keeps religion in its proper place—in the pew. It’s no accident that Obama is the first Northern Democrat to be elected president since John F. Kennedy. The Sun Belt politics represented by George W. Bush—the politics of ideological rigidity, religious zealotry and anti-intellectualism—”has for the moment played itself out,” says presidential historian Robert Dallek.

But this is the bit here that really gets me thinking of Management. I bet he just hates it when them damn liberal journalists from them hifalutin papers like the NY Times go off and jumps to dem conclusions about us Southanas being badly educated and so forth. Just listen at what they’re a saying’:

The South has moved from being the center of the political universe to being an outside player in presidential politics.”

One reason for that is that the South is no longer a solid voting bloc. Along the Atlantic Coast, parts of the “suburban South,” notably Virginia and North Carolina, made history last week in breaking from their Confederate past and supporting Mr. Obama. Those states have experienced an influx of better educated and more prosperous voters in recent years, pointing them in a different political direction than states farther west, like Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, and Appalachian sections of Kentucky and Tennessee.

Southern counties that voted more heavily Republican this year than in 2004 tended to be poorer, less educated and whiter, a statistical analysis by The New York Times shows.

Kinda stinks to hear that, don’t it boiz?

Let’s be honest, rightwingnut whiners, Bookman’s policing of this blog is erratic and one-sided, at best.

He keeps knocking me off in an attempt to level the playing field. I cast pearls before swine and the little piggies on the right squeal and squeal.

(Perhaps he takes my well-considered (and thoroughly documented) opinions of southern folk personally?)

Yeah, all the Yankees moving out of the North down to the HORRORS!!! of the South, I guess because they made the North such a “wonderful” place to live.

And there’s that word again, prosperous, funny how it managed to survive through the failed economic policies of the Bush years.

And of course, one must wonder, thee Oblahmi, he ran as thee Conservative, tax cuts, strong military, got the votes he needed and then, shazam, scrubbed his website clean of the campaign promises.

I told you once, I tell you again, not too long from now, everyone will be saying we should have listened to Management.

They are always right.

Suckers.

[and this is the kicker] What may have ended on Election Day, though, is the centrality of the South to national politics.

I’ve seen Steele. Appears very smart. Like a Republican Douglas Wilder in some ways.

BTW, Gen. Powell caught almost NO racial flak for his endorsement of a fellow black THAT time.

Ray, I think you mistake not supporting the current misuse (my term, not Bookman’s) of our armed forces for not deeply caring for America’s bravest sons and daughters at all.

He had TWO parents in uniform and I have never read one single post of his that disparaged the US military. Not one. Why then, are his bloggers opinions on the matter so important to you?

It seems your definition of patriotism is inflexible. And this new-age McCarthyism is very transparent and very, very tired.

This “liberal”, along with many others, shook hands with Uncle Sam, in time of war. And my only child followed in my footsteps just last year.

So spare me your stereotypes.

GHT, the Dregs were good. But not like the Outlaws…

Okey dokey! My posts are failing to appear.

Mrs. G:

sweetie you need hope

Nope! I’ve got mine with me at all times. An endless supply at my beck and call.

You, on the other hand, had to go outside yourself and misplace yours or find yours in a two-bit politician.

I would never declare myself THAT needy.

I’m out for the night. 5:30 comes early.
