Happy Veterans Day, everyone..
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
…. especially to Amvet and the Corporal and anyone lurking here who served their country. And of course, a special shoutout to my mom and dad, both of whom wore their country’s uniform proudly, Dad for 28 years. (Back then, women had to leave the service if they got married. But military spouses deserve our thoughts too, especially in those times when the active-duty parent gets called away, as many are today).

So far today the Urinal has not called our brave troops baby killers but the day is young.
Maybe now that the perpetual goony campaign against George W Bush is coming to a close it might be possible for you libs to give our soldiers the credit they deserve for the last 7 years, no more terrorist attacks on the homeland, al Qaeda wiped from the face of the world and a stunning, truly remarkable victory in the country of Iraq, not only for America but for the people of Iraq and their new found freedoms.
Duty, Honor, Country, My Brothers.
Now if the socialists don’t squander these gains that we have made……….

I thank them for helping giving Americans like me the ability to criticize two-faced left-wing Benedict Arnolds like Lady Kookman and Friends and calling them out for what they really are….the scum of the earth!

Look at what another case of foaming PDS brought forth from the Urinal:
“I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a $10 trillion debt in a Republican administration? How have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration? If we’re talking change, we want to get far away from what it was that the present administration represented and that is to a great degree what the Republican Party at the time had been representing,” Palin said in a story published Sunday.-Urinal/DNC
Amazing isn’t it, the weak minded spineless wonder moderates in the Republican party natter on about hot Sarah’s wardrobe while she completely castrates them for their efforts.
No truer words have been spoken this whole entire election season, these “reachers across the aisle” do not represent the American people, nope, they joined up with the tax and spend liberals to champion the causes of special interest groups all in the name of “bi partisanship.”
And look at what that got us.
There is a reason that Sarah is the constant, mindless focus of these socialist democrats, and a target for their personal attack smear machine, it’s because she is danger to them, which of course means she is good for America.
If the libs hate Sarah this much, can you find a better reason to like her?

Oh, I get it, one day a year of mealy mouthed platitudes from you liberals is supposed to absolve you of all the criminal acts of treason and betrayal that you have spent the last 364 days committing against our soldiers, is that the idea here?
You know, there is a special place for you liberals, I am not allowed to further elaborate on this for fear of being banned, for spreading all of your al Qaeda propaganda, accusing American troops of butchering women and children when they have done no such thing, disclosing national security secrets, just to name a few of the perverted acts you performed in service to your stupid, wormy little political party.
I will never forget these things nor do I suspect our soldiers ever will.
But if beating your chests one day a year makes you proud of yourself, then go for it.

And also thanks for the kudos to spouses, my mom could pack up a household of 5 kids and move it across the country single handedly and unpack in 2 days. I can only imagine how she coped with 5 kids age 1 to 14 while my dad was in Vietnam.

I agree with Andy. You would have never known that Bookman’s dad wore the uniform by the way he talks. And it is so easy for you libs to be thankful for our military one day/year just like the Easter only church goer.
We who have served do not need your platitudes. The way you truly feel about those who put on the uniform has been readily evident in the last few months of postings by many who don’t have a clue about what it is to serve your country. There are some exceptions, I am sure, but for the most part, save your pandering for someone else. We don’t need it.

Bookman,
It’s not so much that you denigrate the military by actually calling them out. You can say so much, however, by what you do not say. I have never read a posting by you or your paper about the good things that are happening in Iraq. I have never read one word that Tucker has written about what a good job the military has done to free Iraq from that jerk that dominated their country for so long. I have never read ONE WORD from anyone on your liberal staff about the many relief efforts our military has made worldwide to help those in need. You have said volumes by your silence.

P.S. Stop trying to read our minds and spout conjecture on what we are thinking or the future, because you have been wrong….totally wrong. Stay with analyzing the past and present; your record as a “psychic” is pathetic.

I will again reiterate my sentiments that disagreeing does not make one Anti-American, and I will go further to say it makes one MORE American than the people who blindly follow an agenda that was not working.
The reason I am SO against the Iraq war is seeing the fresh young faces of America’s children being snuffed out for no good reason. We should demand air time for each and every war casualty, as PBS does, on each network. At lease give them the respect and recognition they have earned with the ultimate price instead of the constant politicizing and backbiting on CNN, MSNBC, FOX and the rest of them. Come on Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannerty, if you really cared, give the dead kids their due. A little less of your face time and a little more of theirs would improve your “shows” immensely.
I wonder if “W” is going to start up playing golf again? How does he sleep? But I guess someone with as low an IQ as “W” does not have much on his mind at all times. Happy Veterans day Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Chambliss, so glad you were able to serve

Happy Veterans Day to our vets - shout out to my dad who served our nation well.
But, on this Veteran’s Day, it saddens me to see one of our Representatives warning of Obama setting up a Gestapo-type Marxist government.
Aren’t we over that now? Haven’t the wingnuts chimed enough to deaf ears who don’t want to hear that tripe garbage?
And another axe to grind - I’m very frustrated with this bailout - no “toxic” mortgages wiped off their books yet, no lending, paying dividends to shareholders with money they didn’t earn, executives partying with our tax money - the Treasury Department is being sued by Bloomberg to find out who and how the money is being used - I don’t think this is the bailout that Obama and McCain voted for and hopefully the Congress and Obama will get off their arses and do something about us being robbed (as if we are shocked).

O.K.
To some, the media was once again playing into the hands of al-Qaida. But forced to look further by pressure from the Afghan government and the media, the U.S. military discovered that the Afghani version of events appears to have been closer to the truth. Because of that discovery, U.S. rules involving use of air power have changed for the better, reducing the risk of civilian casualties and thus improving American hopes for success in the region.-kookman
The day after this battle against the Taliban, the AJC blared that US Forces had killed 90 civilians and, if memory serves, 60 of those were children.
Pure, unadulterated Taliban propaganda.
Sure, the Americans finally admitted to 33 “civilan” deaths with the caveat that the Taliban regularly dress up in Burkas and stay close to civilians to purposefully draw American fire upon those civilians.
I go even further and fault the military for making such an admission, no one knows how those 33 “civilians” became dead, who is to say that the Taliban didn’t kill them and use their bodies as props to weaken their enemy, the US Armed Forces?
So here we are, we all know that the Taliban have no compunctions with killing innocent civilians, that they fight hiding behind civilians, that they dress up as civilians.
Do tell us Jay, whose fault is it that there were dead “civilians” from the fight in Azizabad?

Mr. Bookman, thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
I was just a starry eyed 17 year old who didn’t know much about domino theories or Indochina. I was just trying to do my part.
There is seldom a day that goes by when I do not think about those men who scaled those cliffs in France or took those hellish islands in the Pacific. Or whose names, some of whom I knew, are on that Wall in Washington DC.
I believe we owe them our undying gratitude for everything we have, including our very lives.
And it is quite moving to know that a complete stranger would publicly thank me for the service I did so long ago. I was not seeking thanks then, nor now, but in the name of brotherhood will humbly accept it.
Again, thanks. You have truly made my day!
And to all the other veterans, and active duty servicemen and women, of all campaigns, all ranks and all branches of the service, I salute you.

A quick lesson in effectiveness…….
If you hold the perception that some of the more liberal voices are being “Easter Lilies” in their support / well-wishes toward the military on Veteran’s Day. Specifically, you perceive that they are negative toward them at other times & voicing support on a rare holiday.
It would be much more effective to congratulate them on their support today & then highlight / remind / challenge them when you think they are being negative at another time.
Otherwise, you get drawn in the pointless exercise of “….find where I was negative….”.
And not to be remiss - Congratulations and thanks to all of those who served and sacrificed defending our freedom to argue what are many times much less consequential things.

Jay, You’ve written 5-6 paragraph slams against Palin/Bush/McCain 4 times a day for the last 9 months. You write a 1 paragraph “support our veterans” piece today and call yourself a patriot. If that paragraph is all you could come up with, the casual observer of your work would have to make the same conclusion as Ray and Andy have.
The other issue is those with whom you associate. You align yourself with liberals who have made all of the comments noted above and you have never once challenged any of them for their positions (that I’ve seen anyway). Even to the point of bashing McCain for crashing his plane and being captured not qualifying him as a war hero.
Like it or not, Jay, you are judged by the company you keep, just like your momma said. And the company you keep ain’t all that friendly to our armed services. The shoe fits whether you like it or not.

Interesting piece on the Today show this morning. Matt Lauer, the most vitriolic of the daytime libs with a two day stay in Alaska with Palin…. warm, fuzzy, “patriotic” and pathetically pandering. Van Sustern interviewing Palin on the campaign. Where were all of these warm and fuzzy pieces during the election? And she is being about as nice and cooperative as anyone could be. Obama won’t have troops out of Iraq a single day earlier than McCain would have (or Bush for that matter). We’re not leaving until the Iraqi’s can take care of themselves. Unless Obama is ready to man a post, he can’t change that date and it’s not in ANYBODY’S interest to leave sooner. He’ll realize that the first day he meets with our people on the ground over there.
Watch and see if I’m not right in 18 months. BTW, we’re already reducing troop counts, so don’t take credit for what’s already happening. I know you will, though. Thats just how you are.

BTW, I don’t believe Bush and co. planned this whole thing very well. I think that’s common knowledge from both sides of the aisle. But I also believe there are many aspects of a war you can’t anticipate up front and you have to be flexible and nimble to make it work. And that’s exactly what we’re doing. The obligation NOW is to the Iraqis. Unfortunately, the concern and care for our troops must come after that.
Bush thought he would be able to stay forever and set up a power base there. He’s withdrawing now because of political pressure there and here.
I agree with you about Obama’s actions. The die has been cast.
