Something just didn’t add up
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
For those who were quick to rush to judgment about the alleged attack on a McCain supporter in Pittsburgh, and more particularly those who rushed to that judgment with seeming glee, things weren’t as they seemed:
“Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.”

Talk about a ‘Lie On its Face’!
There is no way on earth a robber would have carved a backwards ‘mirror image’ of a B on this woman. The truth is that she did it to herself IN THE MIRROR. that is the only explanation. And with a dull butter knife? Please…
So what we have here is a racist hate crime committed by this woman against Black people.

Is John McCain stupid, or does he believe we are? That’s the question as he criticizes Barack Obama for allegedly trying to “redistribute the wealth” with a plan to lower taxes on the middle class and raise them on the super-rich.
Of course, the Democratic presidential candidate’s proposal would merely slow down (not fully halt) the less-talked-about redistribution whereby Washington sends middle-class money up the income ladder. Either Republican candidate McCain doesn’t know about this kleptocracy and is the dumbest presidential candidate in history, or he thinks America is too ignorant to recognize theft. Which is it?

The story actually says both what Jay B said and what AJC/DNC-M said. Here’s something else it says that makes the story sound even more hinky to me.
Todd told police she handed the man $60 she had in her pocket and stepped away from him. The man then noticed the bumper sticker on her car, which was parked in front of the ATM, and became angry, she told police
If the article accurately reflects her statement to the police she doesn’t say she got this money out of the ATM.

Does either candidate have a plan for dealing with the large and growing budget hole? No!! Both Barack and John are promising billions in additional spending, spending thats to be offset by some “cuts to other government spending”, none of which are particularly clear.
McCain’s biggest spending cut, $114 billion, is an accross the board spending freeze, very unspecified. The next largest would come from reducing troops in Iraq. Obama’s biggest cut, $156 billion, comes from reducing troops in Iraq, followed by reductions in healthcare costs, somehow. None of which are very realistic in the current environment.
So what is realistic?? Mandatory spending caps are essential to getting a handle on spending. Social Security reform, including an increase in the retirement age and a reduction in benefits. Reduced Healthcare and Medicare costs through more competitive bidding, less litigation and a change in the incentive structure of excess testing. All this combined with large cuts in military and entitlement spending are the only way we will begin to see any real reduction in our national debt.

Hmmm, Corporal quotes Thomas Jefferson: “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
You know what, maybe he was not talking about taking taxes from those who were willing to work, but taking labor from those who were willing to work —without fair compensation (like the slaves he owned) and giving to the masters (those who would not work).
That certainly was not very democratic!

Hey Corporal, see if you or anyone else here can figure out where these mainstream Democratic ideals can from, as far as the author of the quotes go:
“The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism.”
“The rich will do anything for the poor but get off their backs.”
“The only antidote to mental suffering is physical pain.”
“Sell a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man how to fish, you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.”
“The opponents must grant us that youth has never before flocked to our colors in such numbers, … in the end, one will be found among us who will prove that the sword of enthusiasm is just as good as the sword of genius.”
“The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.”
“We’ve got to make sure that people who have more money help the people who have less money.”

If true, I too hope that they catch the perpetrator, convict him, and incarcerate him. However, attempting to associate his violent actions as an indictment of all of Senator Obama’s supporters is certainly lazy if not patently dishonest.
If not, it will highlight the risk to accepting prima facia any story, report, or claim that happens to fall into line with your preconceived notions. One good practice is to introduce some amount of scepticism of any claim. For those things that seem to agree with what you already hold to be “true”, you better introduce some more!
Lest anyone gets excited, this is a human trait to which we all fall victim if we are not wary. Observations that appear to agree with our assumptions are some of the biggest obstacles that we face in making good judgements.
One note for my good friend Jay and his fellow Democrats; the same thing can happen when your preconception is that this “could not have happened as claimed”.

Also, if he was cutting her with a knife, wouldn’t that have drawn blood? What she has on her face is a bruise, not a cut.
My question is, if her story were true, wouldn’t the attacker have tried to carve an “O” for Obama on her face??? Why a “B”?

Let’s compare the “share the wealth” economy of Clinton/Obama to the “hoard the wealth” economy of Bush/McCain. The Dow Jones Industrial average was at about 3,000 when Clinton took office and at 10,500 when he left. So your 401k could have more than tripled in value had you invested in these 30 blue chip companies during the 8 year Clinton Administration. The Dow was still climbing and on June 7, 2001 when Bush signed the tax cut for the rich the Dow closed at 11,091. The Dow is near 8,500 now or a 3,500 point decrease and more than a 30% decrease. WELL IS THIS INTERESTING:
*Palin will highlight her commitment to families with special needs. More from the Chicago Tribune: “She will call for full funding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, ‘boost funding for special-needs children from birth to age 3 and allow parents to choose whether federal money for their child is used in a public, private, religious or secular school without navigating a cumbersome administrative process.’ The plan calls for adding $15 billion a year to IDEA, which would fully fund the federal commitment to the 1975 law. That would be phased in over five years, and would be exempted from a federal government spending freeze that McCain and Palin have advocated for on the campaign trail.” *
What about those across the board spending FREEZES?
I guess the freeze will only apply to things that are not of interest to their campaign. Then they want to increase the spending for their specific causes.
If you are going to FREEZE then FREEZE everything.
If not, don’t accuse Obama of saying anything to get elected.

Grunt Corporal,
Why do you persist with your claim to want to debate some issue when you never present an issue that you have taken a position on along with your reasons for your stated position. For example, do you think that Obama is not qualified to be president because he cannot meet the requirements. If that is your claim that you wish to debate, then by all means YOU take the time to do some digging and present some viable argument. Dig up a copy of his birth certificate and make the claim that it was forged or present a photo that shows that he loses his powers when exposed to green kryptonite. Something, anything, other than “But, I have not personally signed off on all his records so I don’t trust him,” or whatever.

Police: McCain volunteer changes ATM attack story
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh police say a McCain campaign volunteer who said she was held down by a black man who cut the letter “B” in her face has changed her story.
Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says investigators gave the 20-year-old woman a lie-detector test and are “looking at some inconsistencies” in her story.
The student, Ashley Todd, of College Station, Texas, initially said a black man robbed her at knifepoint Wednesday night and then cut her cheek after seeing a McCain sticker on her car.
Police say bank surveillance footage doesn’t show her at an ATM where she says she was attacked.
Todd, who is white, now says she was knocked unconscious and doesn’t remember being cut. She now says she only discovered the wound later.
No arrests have been made.

If it makes you feel better, I wouldn’t vote for you either.
Obama is:
Soft and naive on terrorism. Has very little experience in business or politics. Has the most liberal voting record (when he bothered to vote) in the Senate. Is for taking the lives of unborn children even after they are born alive. Is a socialist (at best) at heart and wants to redesitribute wealth instead of helping everyone accumulate wealth. He is anti-second Amendment. He will work to make law the so called fairness doctrine. And my worst nightmare is the type of “activist” judges he will appoint to the Supreme Court.
McCain is:
Soft on illegal immigration. He screwed up the McCain/Fiengold thing. I don’t like all of his economic plans. And several other things I don’t care for about him that I don’t have time to list. He was not even my third choice as a Republican candidate.
Now, all of that said, the choice is still easy for me.

Another problem for Obama: he was counting on a bunch of additional revenue from a capital gains tax increase. Well, cap gains have just been wiped out. For years. Options are few: raise taxes elsewhere, don’t deliver what was promised, cut elsewhere.
As far as the ‘savings’ realized from Iraq drawdown: I’ve a feeling much of that is in the ‘fun with numbers category. All that should be counted are additive costs – costs that occurred only because of a particular event or situation. For instance, can’t count the cost of the troops’ pay, meals etc as those would have occurred anyway. Well, you can count the cost of the mess hall contractor, but you get the idea. Can’t count the cost of the hours of maintenance and gas for the jets, unless the approved flying hour program is cut.
Besides which, Obama’s going to keep tens of thousands of troops in Iraq, shift others to unspecified locations and dump thousands more in Afg. Heck, costs might even go up.
Social Security reform: McCain’s already taken heck from Obama for mentioning it. Remember, Obama’s camp said he’ll address it – in ten years. But I like your proposals. And would go a step further: not caps, not cuts. Wholesale program elimination. And elimination of all the people, equipment, etc. associated with the program. If Fed gov’t Program A has 600,000 people with a budget of $n million, then we cut 600,000 people from the rolls and $n million from the budget. Not transferred elsewhere.

Susan Smith, Charles Stuart, The Run Away Bride, The Killers of Emmett Till and others like them? Do you see the common thread? The two cases named on this blog that were Black accusers at least were in the company of those they accused, which at least can be surmised as “he said she said”. The ones I’ve named pulled imagined minorities out of thin air. This Ashley Todd sounds like she’s about to be added to this roll.
Also, it seems to me that a lot of Republicans are jumping on the Obama band wagon. He has not only gotten Powell but now Scott McCellen (former Bush 43’s Press Sec.) and the Granddaughter of Barry Goldwater (the God Father of modern conservatism) who said she is speaking for the entire family. Hummm, Goldwater, the Senator from Arizona from whom McCain inherited his seat and who McCain worshiped. Boy when the ship starts sinking you know what happens. By the time McCain gets back to the Senate (I reverently hope) the few Republicans left won’t be speaking to him. He is at the point where has jettisoned everything and everyone to save his own skin. Even Palin is somewhat putting space between her and him.

Joe the Plumber, as with most Republicans who believe that they would be forced to file bankruptcy if they had to pay so much as 30% taxes on $250,000 net earnings, would have been totally out of place in a library. Indeed, he would rather settle on paying a FairTax[tm] of 23% (inclusive) on everything (less their monthly prebate) new that he buys than live with a paltry $175,000 ($250,000 - (0.3 x $250,000)) after taxes or even worse he would rather leave his life as it is now earning about $45,000 and paying payroll taxes out of that. What gives with you “average Joes?” Any of you care to offer up a better explanation of your issues other than the same old whining about someone that you claim is “living off of your hard earned money.” Is it that new math that you were taught in grade school? What?

They are carving backward “B’s” into the foreheads of those Bush voting idiots so we never forget. So we never forget how far backward Bush has taken us.
Be very careful Republicans that voted for Bush twice, these people are angry and their numbers are growing daily. Protect your foreheads.

Bill Clinton of cigar infamy.
A lot of Democrats are still PO’d at him, for that nonsense. And for his Nixon-like attempts to cover it up.
In my opinion, MUCH more than anyone or anything, he gave the presidency to Bush. Ironically just like Bush is about to do for Obama, it would seem.
BTW, to his credit, Gore always said Nader did not cost him Florida and/or the White House.
The difference between the past two presidents is, in my mind, stark and simple.
Clinton betrayed his wife.

And for all you Joe the Plumber fans. The nonpartisan Tax Foundation reviewed both the McCain and Obama tax plans. If Joe the plumber was to fulfill his dream and and make the kind of money he’s dreaming of, he would pay higher taxes under the Obama plan. He would pay an outrageous $257 a year more. I don’t know about the rest of you, but if Obama is elected the prospect of paying $21.42 more a month in taxes makes me want to give up making a quarter million dollars a year. In her shorter than usual 15 minutes of fame she received calls from the McCain/Palin offices (possibly from the candidates themselves) and a press release from the Obama/Biden campaign. She has made national headlines and brought back a lot of old feelings on both sides of this issue we hope might someday be put behind us. This is the most important election of our country, facing economic and worldwide woes, two wars, and so many thing to numerous to mention. She should be publicly flogged and made to where the hair coat of shame. With so much happening this is more that a disgrace to our nation.

He did indeed mock Joe the plumber. That does bother me because that kind of tactic is Stalinist.
Really? Mockery is Stalinist? Then statements like yours are the biggest breeders of Stalinism there could be…
Obama mocked Joe the plumber? When? Where? In what way? In their initial meeting, Obama seemed nothing but polite…even as it soon became evident that Joe was not an undecided voter but a McCain supporter who had gone out of his way to try and ask Obama a question with which he could trap him. Obama handled the question nicely, in my opinion, answering in clear terms. At no point did he approach mockery.
That all has come after the fact, almost all of it with a vengeance and most of it directed not at JTP but at McCain. McCain, the man who relentlessly attacked the media for destroying the man’s life, even though his life was NOT what he said it was and even though it was McCain himself who mentioned him in the debate. 21 or more times.
You’d think that McCain, after picking Palin, would have learned that he needs to vet the person he is going to make into the centerpiece of his campaign.

Dear Red States: If you manage to steal this election too we’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren’t aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California. To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss. We get 85% of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share. Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the country’s fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s quality wines, 90% of all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and soybeans (thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you. Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy B******* believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties. Finally, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico Peace out, -Blue States

Oh yeah, Obama was walking down the street and just decided to walk up to ole Joe’s house. Obama was talking to any and all who came up to him. This man should have been straight up and said he was a McCain supporter and wanted to debate not just ask an innocent question. Joe the plumber deserves all the unwanted attention he gets. Now he is hawking a book deal(about what, how to snake a toilet properly?). Joe the Plumber is just a symbol of the pipe dreaming American who can achieve the delusion of the rich. It amazes me how happy the republicans were at the thought of a big 6-foot-4 black man attacking a helpless white woman. It was if they thought “oh, now they will all see that all black men are animals and violent” therefore how can we elect a black man to the highest office in the land. I’ve said it before, right here on this blog. Everytime they throw something at this man it bounces off and bites them in the you-know-what. Not that i’m trying to sound racist, because I love my white brothers and sisters just the same as I love my African-American brothers and sisters. But even during the debates McCain tried to push Obama to his breaking point to get him upset, hoping that maybe if he can get Obama to fly off the handle people will see him as an angry-black-man. But Obama flipped the script on him, made him come off as angry, ill-tempered, and down right nasty. All the while staying as cool as a popsicle. That’s why Obama is leading in all the polls. People of this country are not fooled. All of Palin and McCain rallies have been about hate, smear and demeaning democrats. But we shake it off and still show them love. Now I ask you who is the better of the two parties. Now think about how uncomfortable McCain looks in all his interviews with Sarah Palin. He looks at her as if he could take off his shoe and beat the h*ll out of her with it. He hates that woman with a passion. But they play it up for the republicans, because the democrats sure as heck ain’t fooled by this farce.

By the way “JOE THE NON-PLUMBER” you know the one without a license and don’t pay taxes anyway, confessed that Obama never approached him, never came to his house. But that he approached Obama as a way on kind of putting him on the spot. Well we all know how that worked out. Obama was his usual cordial self. Explainded to Joe his plan, and wouldn’t you know it, this dummy still didn’t understand he would pay less taxes under Obama’s plan. McCain has been trying to make it look as if Joe was innocent, and also trying to make it look as if he was innocent too. Remember McFace was the one who brought up Joe at the debate. He started sending the idiot we now know as “Joe the plumber” on a downward spiral. A man who won’t even pay his taxes and has a lien. But tells Obama that he dreads having to pay taxes under Obama’s plan. Well Duh!!! Just do what you have been doing, and only the blacks will understand this, like Fred Sanford said “PUT IT BACK IN THE MAILBOX”. He claims he wants to start a plumbing business that makes 250k a year “OH PLEASE”, someone get this man a reality check, because he sure as heck won’t be cashing the one he has fictioned in his fat head. If that is actually true then that further shows, in my opinion she had other motives than just saying a black man attacked because I had a McCain sticker on my car. Wouldn’t this be an excelent way to start a race war or introduce the idea into peoples minds that this RACE is all about RACE?
