Assault alleged on McCain staffer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The report about a bizarre attack on a McCain volunteer in Pittsburgh is disturbing. If this happened as described, then the perpetrator ought to be caught and sent to prison for every day the law allows, and it ought to allow a lot.
But I’d be careful about jumping to conclusions too quickly. The Pittsburgh police certainly seem to be.
“This is what she’s telling police,” police spokeswoman Diane Richard said. “We can’t substantiate it at this time.”
Police are checking video footage from a bank surveillance camera. Let’s see how the investigation unfolds.

I truly hope the report is false, that is was staged. If so, then the woman should be prosecuted, fully. The last thing we need is violence answered with violence.
But the very fact people can hear of this and have part of them say “this could be true” is really sad.
And the possible victim’s race and the possible assailant’s race have nothing to do with it. I see this as losing sight of reality.

Grunt Corporal (from below),
Jealousy? What the heck are you rambling on about now. Try to put together complete thoughts, grunt.
Now, let’s examine this “story” a little closer. This girl gets robbed at the ATM (ultimately, perhaps the camera will clear things up but in the meantime) and just starts walking back to her car while the robber is still staying around the scene of the crime and checking out her bumper stickers even. She doesn’t yell, “Help” or anything after he leaves. She doesn’t even run. He doesn’t run away like most robbers either. He sticks around to see what she does and gets p** off about her McCain sticker. Wow. This just keeps on getting better by the moment. Then, he sort of nonchalantly walks back up to her while she’s not watching him and whacks her in the back of the head and pushes her down while she mysteriously does a mid-air 180 so as to land on her back which puts him still at her feet but he decides to walk around to her head so he can carve a “B” on her cheek instead of a much simpler and more obvious “O”. Gee, I wonder what “O” stands for. Like I said, IDIOTS. I’ll anxiously await the final report on this one.

Oh wait, I got my thoughts confused, I meant to say that some people’s devotion to their political party is a mental illness and they are knee jerk psychotics who would attack a robbery and assault victim because of it.

P.S. The Pittsburgh police simply stated that they could not verify the woman’s account, most likely because they were not present at the time and therefore unable to unload their service semi autos into this Oblahma supporting scumbag.

Actually it was something that was supposedly said in two places. In both cases, the only witness was a “journalist”. In one case, the Secret Service debunked the story as a myth.
Your skepticism is shared by many. According to a new Pew poll:
http://people-press.org/report/463/media-wants-obama
“Voters overwhelmingly believe that the media wants Barack Obama to win the presidential election. By a margin of 70%-9%, Americans say most journalists want to see Obama, not John McCain, win on Nov. 4. Another 8% say journalists don’t favor either candidate, and 13% say they don’t know which candidate most reporters support.”

The reason the press are going to such shameless lengths to drag Obama across the finish line is because he’s their last best hope at restoring the old media environment, including a new Unfairness Doctrine for radio, and regulation of the Internet. The Obama’s-already-won-give-it-up-you-GOP-losers stories are intended only to demoralize turnout. Bear in mind, that round about 5pm Eastern on Election Day, they’ll be doing those stories at industrial strength, in order to clobber any Republican voters still dumb enough to think it’s worth making the trip to the polls. A good GOTV operation will not only lead to political victory but assure that the free market gets to pronounce the final judgment on the media conduct of this election.-Steyn

“John McCain’s election night watch party might be missing John McCain. Instead of appearing before a throng of supporters at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix on the evening of Nov. 4, the Republican presidential nominee plans to deliver postelection remarks to a small group of reporters and guests on the hotel’s lawn. al-Gitmo: I know this might tug your little heart strings but someone else had a big party planned too:
If you want to win the presidential nomination, you must win primaries in some of the states with the largest populations and the greatest number of delegates.
It just so happens that some of those states are also coveted general-election swing states, states like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
And in those swing states, Sen. Hillary Clinton maintains sizeable leads, according to a Quinnipiac University poll out today. Indeed, the conclusion drawn by the polling experts appears to be: Forget about Iowa being close, Clinton’s inevitable, she’s going to be the Democratic nominee.

More goodies from Stratfor:
Pay attention Getalife!
Egypt is rumored to have invited Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah to Cairo for an official visit. Whatever the veracity of the rumors, Arab powers are working to heighten splits in the Shiite movement, box in Syria and reduce Iranian influence in the region. Meanwhile, the reported Egyptian move dovetails nicely with Israeli strategy.
Now lest anyone has forgotten, Nasrallah fell out of favor with Iran and was effectively demoted on Iranian orders because Tehran grew more and more distrustful of Nasrallah’s pragmatic and accommodating attitude with Syrian and Lebanese political leaders. His rhetoric against Israel is mostly aimed at domestic consumption.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak reportedly sent a personal letter to Nasrallah through Amr Moussa, the Arab League’s secretary-general. In his letter, Mubarak reportedly told Nasrallah that Hezbollah has already achieved its objectives by “liberating southern Lebanon in 2000” and “valiantly standing up to the Israeli army in 2006.” He told him it is now high time to lay down its weapons. The source added that Mubarak tried to convince Nasrallah that Hezbollah’s influence and reputation have peaked, and that continuing to serve as Iran’s forward division in the Middle East would most likely be suicidal for the group.
I predicted long ago that Syria would throw Iran under the bus regardless of what Assad is reported to have said in the media.

To Ms. G.Some research I did ……
In 1931 Governor Ross S. Sterling, of Texas, sent Texas National Guard troops into east Texas oil fields to force compliance with limits on the production of oil and an increase in the minimum number of acres required between oil wells. The regulations had been drawn up by the Texas Railroad Commission with the approval of the Texas Legislature, but similar regulations had been enjoined (stopped) by a federal court just four months earlier. In 1932 the Supreme Court invalidated Sterling’s use of martial law, holding that it violated the constitutional due process rights of the property owners (Sterling v. Constantin, 287 U.S. 378, 53 S. Ct. 190, 77 L. Ed. 375 [1932]).Another governor declared martial law in response to an assassination and rumors of political corruption.
In June 1954 Albert Patterson, a nominee for state attorney general in Alabama, was shot to death on a street in Phenix City. Governor Gordon Persons, of Alabama, declared martial law in Phenix City, and dispatched General Walter J. (“Crack”) Hanna and the Alabama National Guard to take over the city. Hanna appointed a military mayor, and the troops took control of the county courthouse and city hall. The troops physically removed certain officials from the courthouse and city hall, seized gambling equipment, and revoked liquor licenses.Martial law usually is used to try to restore and maintain peace during civil unrest. It does not always yield the desired results.
In May 1970, for example, Governor James Rhodes, of Ohio, declared limited martial law by sending in National Guard troops to contain a protest of the Vietnam War at Kent State University. Four protestors were shot and killed by the troops. In a case brought by their survivors, the Supreme Court held that the governor and other state officials could be sued if they acted beyond the scope of state laws and the federal Constitution (Scheuer v. Rhodes, 416 U.S. 232, 94 S. Ct. 1683, 40 L. Ed. 2d 90 [1974]).
I guess we’re arguing *semantics but the bottom line is, if you have the National Guard and/or Federal troops pointing a weapon at you …… it’s martial law to you .*

This is from the Pittsburg paper:
Although the robber had moved away from her, he became agitated when he saw her car [it had a McCain sticker], punched her in the back of the head, pushed her to the ground and carved a B into her face, she reported.
Ms. Richard said Ms. Todd declined medical treatment at the scene.
She is hit in the back of the head (possible concussion), pushed to the ground (possible broken nose, jaw, teeth, etc), and has a ‘B’ carved in her face (head and face wounds bleed like hell), but refuses medical treatment. If I had that done to me, I’d go to the hospital to get at least examined make sure I didn’t have a more serious problem. Sounds weird to me. Just saying.
“This is what she’s telling police,” police spokeswoman Diane Richard said. “We can’t substantiate it at this time.”
The police couldn’t see the ‘B’ supposedly carved in her face? What does it take to ‘substantiate’ that? It should be fairly obvious even to the untrained eye. It’s kind of hard to miss when someone who has a ‘B’ carved in their face. Just the blood alone would be a big clue.
The suspect is described as black, 6 feet 4 inches, about 200 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing.
How does she know he’s black? Or a man? It’s dark, this person is wearing dark clothing, and she’s face down. I guess because she had a McCain sticker on her car and, wees all knowd, dem Obama peoples is blacks. Or maybe it’s a thug and, of course, all thugs are black males. Or maybe it’s an African-American who intentionally dressed in all black to make her think he’s white, but she didn’t fall for the diversion. Or maybe she’s just a typical Rethuglicon racist who automatically blames blacks for all their problems.
I’d be willing to bet this woman either lost the money (drugs, gambling, stupidity; take your pick) and is covering her tracks or is just making up a story to get some press for McCain. Either way, this is just more dishonesty from Rethuglicons. They can’t win on the issues, so they make up lies and use character assassination. They are not fit to serve even as a bathroom attendant let alone in high public office. But let’s not jump to prejudgements just yet.

Caller: It’s not an emergency but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic’s coming the other way?
Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)
Caller: “(Expletive) you.” (caller hangs up)
Now, just because you are related to John, that does not give you the right to abuse of power unless John is elected. Then, it will just be four more years of the same.

Awwww, Peggy Noonan wants to have barry’s baby:
In a way, Mr. Obama can more easily go left in foreign relations for the precise reason no one knows what going left is, because no one knows what going right in foreign relations is, at least if “right” means “conservative.” Mr. Obama has a great chance, in this area, to confuse the world. And a confused world is not all a bad thing. His persona, name, color, youth and approach will, at least initially, jumble up long-settled categories. Radicals enjoy hating America, but a particular picture of America. He is not that picture. He will give calculating Western European leaders an opening to be friendly to America again; they will feel that Mr. Obama’s victory constitutes the rebuke of the Bushism they desire. They will befriend the rebuker.

Looks like the same six people are here. Either you six don’t have jobs or you’re stealing time from your employers… which is it? Or maybe your jobs are to troll the AJC blogs and be “libyan parrots”…
Anyway, couple things before I go to work (to support corporate welfare), this chick was beaten up, robbed, and carved like a turkey in the presence of her and one other person. The “kill him” stuff happened at campaign rallys in the presence of many.
We have no verification that the girl’s story id accurate or true, we do have many eyewitnesses to dumb redneck conservatives getting whipped up into a frenzy, and forgetting that the Klan rally was the night before, and yelling out “kill him”…
I’m giving the lassie the benefit of the doubt, if it did go down like that she deserves justice. but it sounds awfully fishy so far.
Don’t kill the messenger, I’m just pointing out your obvious hippocracy and willful ommissions of the facts… (like you didn’t already know it…)
“you WANT 8 more years of this???”

Rainfalls will be heavier, triggering sewage overflows, contaminating drinking water and endangering beachgoers. Higher lake and ocean temperatures will cause bacteria, parasites and algal blooms to flourish. Warmer weather and heavier rains also will mean more mosquitoes, which can carry the West Nile virus, malaria and dengue fever. Fresh produce and shellfish are more likely to become contaminated. -Washington Post/ Hysteria
It’s a good thing that it’s getting colder, eh?

Hrm… I’m surprised that no one updated this story to point out that she was a nut-case who faked the whole incident.
I think it would warrant an Update in the actual story from the author. He’s just left a false story dangling on “the tubes”.
