Thought for the day

We live in a country in which more than 50 percent of Americans are apparently anti-Americans who don’t live in the “real America.”

Bigger problem is this:

*One of the interesting trends of the election was that anti-war candidates, not only Mr. Obama but also Ron Paul, were getting more support from the uniformed military than hawkish Mr. McCain. That remains the case. Mr. Obama received $340,400 from members of the uniformed service branches compared to $321,500 for Mr. McCain. Mr. Paul had taken in $213,000 from uniformed service members.

So, nearly half of our active military are anti-American?

Musn’t we demand Patreas investigate the massive infiltration?

Jay

50% is a little high. It’s closer to 15% (but growing). Enough to take this country into “socialism” and beyond. Remember, a democracy is the only form of government set up to allow its own self-destruction via the ballot box.

Can you live in America, be a citizen and be anti-American? Is that something that you are insinuating can’t happen? I defer to William Ayers, et al. Many of the millions of hippie-dippy idiots in my youthful days were anti-American and actively supported a foreign army in time of war (Jane Fonda, et al). I saw their glares and sneers at my uniform but unfortunately that’s all the cowards did was sneer as was in their own best interest at the time. Certainly most political disagreement is not anti-American but there is a line that can be crossed.

Nothing has changed from the time of the Tories (probably 25%) to today.

Sorry, Bookman, i don’t follow this introduction. You have quotation marks around anti-American. Whom as you quoting?

To whom and what 50% are you referring? With your political proclivities, I imagine there is something here to be blamed on Republicans, otherwise you would not mention it.

As the Corporal suggested, there is a line than can be crossed. Yes???

Unfortunately no context is provided in which to understand or define any of Jay’s statement.

That said, the “real America” we knew as children and during our early adulthood has only recently been, and continues on a slippery slope. This downward slide is primarily due to political correctness, the ACLU, generational government dependency by a certain segment of society, increasing sense of entitlement by the same certain segment of society, and likely socialism, i.e., wealth re-distribution and class envy under Obama!!!!

When did this country change from a republic to a democracy? Considering the context of Jays thought, I’d bet that alot more than fifty per cent of us are un-American according to the criteria of the self-righteous right.

One has only to look at Sara Palin to witness the hypocricy of those who draw “lines”.

I would imagine that after Al Queda gets their hands on Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, we can rely on real mens’ men like Barney Frank and Harry Reid to keep us safe.

I imagine the number will get higher than 50% when the liberals get the right to vote restored for felons and begin to assimilate all the illegal aliens and give them the right to vote - I mean, does it really matter if we are great society so long as they can consolidate their power and get their greedy little paws on the pocketbooks of the evil hated rich?

Gelding,

Having read Jay’s cryptic comments again he may just be reminiscing about the Two America’s of John Edwards days. Then again he could be talking about Biden saying it’s patriotic to pay more taxes so they want to cut taxes for 95% if Americans. It seems the Democrat ticket wants to be able to say that only 5% of Americans are good patriots.

Nah, it’s still a shot at the Sara’Cuda.

If you really want to flow chart the decline of this country this is what you will find. We started out as a Republic with a lot of baggage (i.e., slavery for just one). We struggled all through history and finally reached a period (at least on paper - nothing is perfect) of genuine freedom for all, civil rights, prosperity, etc., etc.

Then within a few years of each other we had a plethora of Surpeme Court cases including no more prayer in public schools and abortion on demand (just for starters).

I believe we lost (gave away) God’s blessing of our Judeo/Christian heritage and the graph goes downhill from there.

It accelerates after Columnist George Will said on national television (and we all believed him) that if President Clinton is found to have had sex in the Oval Office with a young subordinate intern, the American people will force him to resign the presidency within three days.

Alas, a liberal Democrat Congress allowed the unthinkable to happen - he stayed.

I could go on but space is limited.

The frog is boiling in the kettle.

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

OPEC should order a “substantial” cut in oil output at next week’s emergency meeting in Vienna, Algerian Energy Minister and current OPEC chief Chakib Khelil said Saturday.

This is the part, in a normal world, where we would say we are going to increase production as an offset to OPEC’s extortion.

But no, the America haters have cut our domestic production to the bone, I guess because they “love their country.”

But good news is, Obambi will be happy!

Chicago Annenberg Challenge 115 S. Sangamon St, 3rd floor, Chicago Illinois gave over a million dollars to the Small Schools Workshop 115 S. Sangamon St, 3rd floor, Chicago Illinois and if you count Woods and Joyce Foundation money it’s close to 2 million bucks. We know that Ayers and Obama both sat on the board of Woods, but it’s also notable that Obama chaired the CAC and the Small Schools Worshop was run by William Ayers.

Which part Midori?

The quote from LBJ? It’s all over the internet if you want to look for it.

Let’s look at what i said about Obama:

He’s a black man? Is he not….?

He’s a socialist? In Dreams of my Father, he points out that he was drawn to communist professors and student groups - backing it down to socialist is probably too kind - so perhaps I should have said racist.

He’s a force to topple America?

OK, you got me - this is simply my interpretation of what former Clinton sidekick Dick Morris said when he said “If Obama is elected, it will lead to a multi-year depression”

Finally, he’s a muslime?

My belief is that, if someone were educated in a Madras, and if they were taught to infiltrate and help topple America from within, the very first thing you would be taught is to pretend to assimilate in that country by adopting it’s major religion and denying that you were in deed a muslime - but, even so, why would you pick a church that deed indeed clear the hurdle to be classified as racist (by definition) when you get here.

I stand by my points……

Let’s see what McCain’s thought for the day is:

I called for tighter restrictions on Fannie and Freddie that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place. My opponent was silent, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. Senator Obama’s most notable involvement with the housing issue was taking campaign money from executives of Fannie and Freddie - the very people who were causing the problem.

In tough economic times, higher taxes are not what are needed to bring about a recovery. Senator Obama’s plan will tax half of the income of small business in America. These are the people who added 350,000 jobs at a time when America lost 700,000 jobs. They are the backbone of our economy, and will lead us to recovery. When I’m president, their taxes will go down instead of up, and we’ll help them create jobs for America.

You don’t have to hope that things will change when you vote for me. You know things will change, because I have been fighting for change in Washington my whole career. I’ve been fighting for you my whole life, and that is what I will do as president of the United States.

Huh, he didn’t attack the plumber.

Okay, I have a simple, hypothetical situation. Let’s split the country in 1/2 - you can have one side draw the line, the other side decide which part of the land that it wants - that way, they will be very, very equal as far as resources etc.

Then, simply enact two simply forms of government - One, complete capitalism - the other, total socialism. Let each American decide which 1/2 they want to live in, and see what happens.

The only catch is, once you decide, you can’t switch sides. The problem with all of the left leaning bigots is that they need the income from those that lean right to enact all their socialist policies.

Of course, this will never happen, the left cry-babies would never let it - but ask yourself this, if the 5% who pay almost 60% of taxes decide it’s not worth it anymore, how are you going to get your precious “redistribution” money?

When you get 51% of the people off the tax rolls, you can pass any tax increases you want, and never lose your job as a congressman, but what happens when the 49% decide they want to join the other side?

Of course, that would never happen, it would be unfair for someone who already writes the government a substantial 6 or 7 figure check annually to complain about having to pay for even more, right?

I have explained it to my children this way - what if you study your tale off and make a 100 on your math test, but Johnny didn’t study at all and made a 50 - what if your teacher decided it would be in Johnny’s best interest to take 20 points off your test and give them to Johnny - I mean, you still made a B, how can you be angry - and now Johnny has a C! How wonderful. She said, but that’s not fair - I worked hard and Johnny goofed off - …..exactly.

To the Corporal— here’s just a partial list of “anti-American” felons, criminals and terrorist-appeasers that you and McBush must be very proud of:

— Richard M. Nixon

— G. Gordon Liddy

— Charles Colson

— Bob Haldemann

— John Erlichman

— Oliver North

— Timothy McVeigh

— Eric Rudolph

— Marylin Shannon, GOP terrorist supporter:

In 1993, John McCain was the keynote speaker at a banquet for the anti-gay hate group, the Oregon Citizens Alliance. Prior to his speech, Marylin Shannon offered a prayer in praise of a woman who shot a Navy veteran and doctor who happened to work at an abortion clinic. At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter what I, you, or anyone else thinks - at least TW has the courage to admit that this Obama thing is socialist, so kudos for that - Obama is going to win.

I hope against all hope that you are all right and I am all wrong - I really, really, mean that - but when you take away incentive, why would anyone risk trying to grow a business - This is what I do, ignorant or not, I help grow small businesses into bigger businesses, and the mood among my clients is decidedly pessimistic.

I guarantee you that if you could get a good cross-section of those that actually own businesses and create jobs, you will find a great deal of pessimism about the possibility of Obama being elected - I am sure that each and every one of you own your own business and can’t wait for Obama to take office because it’s going to be all roses and chocolate, but again, you don’t represent a very wide cross-section.

Maybe my clients don’t either, but among approx 85 business owners that I work with, I would say it’s easily 7 or 8 to 1 against in their support for Obama.

One day, we will all see - and I again hope that you are right. I can’t wait to see what happens when the farms start failing because the 45% death tax starts taking them away from the families that run them, and we become another black socialist led state like Rhodesia - Oh, I mean Zimbabwe - wheel barrels of money for a loaf of bread, etc.

You all deserve what you get - I hope you have enough to get you through the other side -

Andy-DUH- @ 6:23- Why, I don’t know of any buildings they threw bombs at — do you have proof that Ayers threw bombs at the Pentagon, and if so, why wasn’t he ever convicted of doing that?

Also, you may remember that G. Gordon Liddy has frequently encouraged his radio listeners to go out and kill other Americans… and Oliver North was instrumental in Ronald Ray-gun’s selling of weapons to terrorists, and Marylin Shannon only has praise for a woman who killed a doctor and bombed abortion clinics, calling her “a fine lady”…

That’s a sample of the domestic terrorists who John McBush “associates with” these days.

Gelding,

We have to work hard every day to pay for all of those who don’t. It’s now May before we can go into a net gain for the year. Soon, June, then July and then who knows. Depends on how long the Annointed One stays in office. His programs, give aways, entitlement donations will not go away as soon as they are passed. You might as well get ready for July. A Government program that is enacted into law rarely goes away. Only adds to the multitude of others on the backs of the middle class. Reward for hard work and self reliance? More taxes, more entitlements and more pretending that “change” makes a difference. I am sure you voted for this clown. You and Midori and Goldie and all of the rest of you “spread the wealth” losers like Bookman who think that July is OK. Lets let you give Jamal his six-pack money. Ayers boasts that he “participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972.” Of the day he bombed the Pentagon, Ayers says, “Everything was absolutely ideal. … The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the b******* were finally going to get what was coming to them.”

Goldie,

Maybe your definition of Un-American is different than mine. Obviously, it is. Clinton gave the presidency a rather bad image when he was impeached for lying to a Federal Grand Jury. Cold Cash Jefferson received, on tape, a 90K bribe which he put into his freezer to hide his fraud from the investigating officers of the FBI. John Edwards lied repeatedly to probes into his personal conduct as pertains to his running for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. The Butt Pilot was complicit in one of the most horrendous financial schemes to defraud the government that ever existed….. ditto Christopher Dodd. Je$$ie and Al…… don’t think that these clowns even qualify for a chance of being an American. Martin Luther King III or IV or whatever…… what a sorry excuse for a human being…. if being American is like him, I want to move to New Zealand. Tucker, Bookman and the NYT….. I’ll let you figure that out. Maxine Waters….. almost gave Franklin Raines a BJ praising him for all of this great efforts in behalf of the less than fortunate. Also cooked the books for about 190M in Un-American schemes to defraud the public and the American taxpayer.
Fonda and Kerry…… they ought to be in jail for all the love for America that they have.

Oliver L. North was “Indicted March 16, 1988, on 16 felony counts. After standing trial on 12, North was convicted May 4, 1989 of three charges: accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and destruction of documents. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell on July 5, 1989, to a three-year suspended prison term, two years probation, $150,000 in fines and 1,200 hours community service. A three-judge appeals panel on July 20, 1990, vacated North’s conviction for further proceedings to determine whether his immunized testimony influenced witnesses in the trial. In that sentence about you spreading the wealth around, there’s another typing error: that “you” should read “I, Barack.” “You” will have no say in it. Joe the Plumber might think he himself can spread it around just fine, but everyone knows “trickle-down economics” don’t work. So President-presumptive Obama kindly explained the new exquisitely condescending “talking-down economics.” Put that in your pipe and solder it.

Evidently the O-Mighty One was not happy after his encounter with Joe. He’s still willing to talk to Ahmadinejad without preconditions. But never again will he talk to Joe the Plumber without preconditions. Outraged at the way the right-wing whackos were talking up Joe the Plumber as if he were an authentic regular Joe, like Joe Biden, the O-Bots of the media swung into action. Vast regiments of investigate reporters were redeployed from the Wasilla Holiday Inn back to the Lower 48.

“We need you down here checking out this Joe the Plumber,” editors barked to journalists.

“Look, you went to Columbia School of Journalism. This is what we bold, courageous journalists do. We’re the conscience of the nation. We speak truth to plumber.”

I’m with Joe the Plumber, not Joe the Hair-Plugger. He’s articulated the animating principles of America better than anyone on either side in this campaign. Which is why the O-Bots need to destroy him.-Sunday Steyn

“Spread the wealth around” is regular Joe speak for redistributionist tax policy, in which the government takes from the Joes and keeps a fee for handling Joe’s money, then gives it out to other folks who want Joe’s money, so the other folks will love the politicians who run the government and vote for them again and again.

This is a system that works remarkably well for politicians, government workers with fat pensions and others who get Joe’s money. It doesn’t work out for the Joes, but there aren’t as many of them as there used to be. Increasingly, Joes are encouraged to get in the government soup line for what is called “their fair share.”John Kass, Yes, the Chicago Tribune token sometimes Conservative

Another thought for the day might be, whatever happened to the stories about how this was the summer that the glaciers would all be melted?

Two hundred years of glacial shrinkage in Alaska, and then came the winter and summer of 2007-2008

Unusually large amounts of winter snow were followed by unusually chill temperatures in June, July and August

Now it’s easy to dismiss one year as an anomaly, even if we were told by the Gorebots that this was the year of the big melt, but what about the two hundred year trend? What was the best seller among the gas guzzling SUV’s in the 1807/1808 time frame?

Barry didn’t start claiming that the earth had started healing because of him being The One that we was waiting for until this June. However the healing of the Alaskan glaciers does seem to mirror the Governorship of the lovely, talented, and might I add humble Sarah Palin. Take that Obambi!

They pay 60% of the INCOME taxes.

And many of them, Democrats and Republicans, are more than willing to do it for the good of society and the country as a whole. They understand and appreciate the opportunities they had and the protections they receive.

That said, we need to get some of the folks that have been eliminated from the tax rolls back on, myself included. We were dropped to facilitate cuts for the wealthy, who in many cases didn’t want them. Bill Gates’ father representing a group of them appeared before Congress arguing against eliminating the estate tax, for example. Warren Buffett recently testified he wan’t taxed enough.

You’re too rigid in defining success and failure. Certainly we need to address the root causes of poverty and dependence.

By Danny the red

Many Obama supporters in US claim Obama represents an overcoming or leaving behind of the cultural fights of the 1960s and therein lies his real importance.

Actually this is misleading. It’s more correct to say - with Bernard-Henri Levy - that he represents the victory of one side of the battles of the 60s (needless to say, the side that is victorious is not the side AJC/DNC Management is on). (“[Obama’s election]would mean really the end — and the complete victory of the battle begun in the ’60s. No. 2, because it will mean the end of a new American evil, which is the dividing, the Balkanization of American society.”)

Perhaps now we can start to understand the ferocity of the attacks on Barack Obama that we’ve seen. Yet at the same time, it’s also somehow surprising that those attacks have not been more organized and sustained, that they have been so ham-handed. There really is a tremendous amount at stake.

By Danny the red

October 19, 2008 10:43 PM | Link to this

It sounds so beautiful to my ears that I just have to hear it again:

Barack Obama’s election as president represents the total victory of one side of the battles of the 60s. And conversely, that of course means the total defeat of the other side - in exactly the same way that the segregationists for example were doomed to defeat and disappearance in the CIvil Rights era.

And yes, that does have something to do with race. Something very direct, in fact. Nay, it has everything to do with race, but not the way the racists want you to think. It only has to do with race in the sense of race’s overcoming.

Mmm, what a nice word, overcoming.

The election is coming. The historical moment of our national history, except maybe for this, the first President of the United States of America election, is among us.

We have a choice of a Republican team- McCain/Palin, which consists of a bonafide Vietnam War hero, which is most commendable. Also, who happens to be the oldest man in history to run for presidency. Who also believes we can keep the war going, win, and still make the economy work. He also has twenty-two years experience at Washington. But at the debates, he does not come off as a gentleman when he will not look at Obama during the time.

With Palin, from the far away state of Alaska. First woman to be a vice president and wants to be the President of the United States also one day. She and the “Maverick” think they can handle the world. Though she herself has a closet from being the Governor she has had rattled once or twice, legal issues. She has much confidence in herself.

On the other side, a man who makes less noise. But people listen. The first black man to get this far in the nomination of presidency. He is also the man who has background of Muslim surrounding his family, at the time we are in Iraq. Changes are to perhaps of no war and to finish Afghanistan. He talks of strengthening the economy. I would think no war, already saves us billions every month and save our soldier’s lives, but how hard is it to stop a war? It seemed easier to begin one. He has two full years of junior Senator experience and a past of characters who keep being questioned.

He does have Biden with thirty- six years experience, and for a man who much to say in the past, he keeps rather quiet these days , while Palin loves the light. He is Obama’s vice president hopeful. And he is the one who usually says what is on his mind, and I have no idea why he quiet during the circus going on.

My bet is on Obama winning. I think we maybe ignoring the fact we should listen to Biden. With two years experience of Washington for Obama, I foresee Biden suggesting much to Obama. Biden is probably the one we should be hearing more from.

Even if I believe Obama will win, between the two sides, it is the first time, in my life, I am this close to the election to date and I have no idea on who to vote for

Colin Powell said yesterday he would endorse Obama. I wish Colin Powell were running instead. The one man I feel confident and trusting to, still stays in the background.

Whatever happened to McCain economic advisor Carly Fiorina? For awhile she was all over the place, but she isn’t out there anymore…..

It sure is a Deep Thought, Jay.

I’m glad on one level that Sarah has made these ridiculous statements, because it gives me a chance to unload on a pet peeve of mine that shouldn’t be a pet peeve at all, but a matter of fairly grave concern to all—the notion that it’s acceptable within the Republican party to treat entire chunks of America as alien territory. Ever hear a Republican speak of “Massachusetts” as if it were a dirty word? How about their constant whining about “San Francisco values,” as if the hard-working, prosperous citizens of that city were somehow immoral?

(I realize that others in this comments thread may have made this point already, I don’t really have time to read the hundred-plus entries to find out. Just felt like adding my American voice. )

I was reflecting on Palin’s appearence on SNL, and she was true to character. She thought the skit was over the top so didn’t fully participate, just like she announced at the beginning of her debate with the real Joe that she wasn’t going to answer the questions. And of course with Couric she wouldn’t say what periodicals she read, but a week later told Fox she read the NYT, WSJ and the Economist.

By the way, did those poor people up in Minnesota realize what they were getting when they voted in that Bachmann character. With the Republican candidates, it’s almost impossible to tell what you are getting until after the fact given the lies they’re willing to spew in order to get elected.

Taxpayer, thanks. I’m thinking seriously of bailing out on this whole posting-as-a-character-on-the-Internets thing once the election is over. I wrote a bit about it on my crummy blog if you’re interested in my rationale; it’s a work-in-progress.

This is the most perverse statute of limitations I’ve ever heard of. Who the hell cares that Obama was just a kid when Ayers was in league with murderers and America-hating crazies? Using this logic Obama would be free to hang around with Dr. Mengele if he were available, as Dr. Joe’s terrible work was done before Obama was even born.

The fact that Obama is allowed to slip his responsibility on this one using a transparent non sequitur demonstrates again, as if another demonstration were necessary, the double-standard that exists in the left-stream media.-AmSpec

Watch the weak Republican minds grow more bitter and hateful with each passing hour. Character assassination driping from their jowels - tis all they know. Crash- McCain and Sarah more crazed.

But it is time to begin a slight celebration. George Bush is nearly gone. Soon gone forever. America’s most spectacularly incompetent footnote, the drunken, oily residue left on the pavement after his corrupt administration’s giant Hummer of ineptitude is finally hauled to the crusher. No matter how bleak things seem right now, rejoice in the knowledge that he can never be president again. Tho Joe SixPack will forever attempt to resurrect his kind to further destroy the Nation.

hillbilly ragger,

I’ll check it out. Meanwhile, the only reason I post at all is to help spread the word about some of the Republicans in office and some of their policies. Phil Gramm and people like him paved the way for some in the financial industry to nearly wipe out nations. I see that Ben Stein even finally saw the evil in CDSs when left unchecked in his latest column. Then, there’s the hidden destruction wrought on us by the Republicans with their attitude about the environment. Some of what I have seen them do right here in Georgia just plain sickens (no pun intended) me. Just look at Talmo and LHR farms and Philip Services Corp. for starters and they’re just the tip of the trickled-on iceberg. Then, look at legislation passed by the Republicans that allowed these things to happen so their backers could make a buck off of an unsuspecting public. Some of these Republicans bring new definitions to words such as scum and trash.

Boy there’s a lot of whining from the wingnuts this morning! Mr. Magoo and Elly Mae are going down in flames and the tears of the right can’t put out the fire. Now they want to throw the same General Colin Powell that they trumpeted as someone they would vote for as president under the burning bus. It really shows you who your friends are. I suggest that all the progressives on this blog get out their umbrellas and galoshes because there’s going to be a flood from all this crying!

Taxpayer, I appreciate your willingness to get deep into the weeds on these financial issues. I googled “Talmo and LHR farms and Philip Services Corp.” and didn’t come up with much… was there anyplace in particular I should start?

And do you have/are you considering starting a crummy blog of your own?
