American people alarmed by Palin
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“With the vice presidential candidates set to square off today in their only scheduled debate, public assessments of Sarah Palin’s readiness have plummeted, and she may now be a drag on the Republican ticket among key voter groups, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Though she initially transformed the race with her energizing presence and a fiery convention speech, Palin is now a much less positive force: Six in 10 voters see her as lacking the experience to be an effective president, and a third are now less likely to vote for McCain because of her.
The 60 percent who now see Palin as insufficiently experienced to step into the presidency is steeply higher than in a Post-ABC poll after her nomination early last month. Democrats and Republicans alike are now more apt to doubt her qualifications, but the biggest shift has come among independents.
In early September, independents offered a divided verdict on Palin’s experience; now they take the negative view by about 2 to 1. Nearly two-thirds of both independent men and women in the new poll said Palin has insufficient experience to run the White House.”
We’ll have a thread up for tonight’s debate. There’s a lot riding on it.

Nah. The VP debates are like the undercard at a fight. It fills time to sell popcorn until the main event.
It’ll be like going to a strip club: fun to watch, but it won’t mean anything in the morning.
Enjoy the day.

Funny how the antique media never questions the experience of the guy running for the actual position of President on the Democrat ticket.
Since we’re playing the “VP is going to be President on day 2” game, who could possibly want Biden to be President. Nobody has wanted him any of the times he ran for the job.

If Sarah Palin became Governor of Alaska, then that only shows how wide open for opportunity Alaska is.
Go northwest, young women. You can be somebody. All you have to do is be looking the other way when they slaughter all those tiny little baby seals. That’s where that bridge to nowhere was actually taking Alaskans to: The breeding grounds/nursery for baby seals. Why shouldn’t it be developed? Why shouldn’t tourists get to club a seal or two? Palin apparently ordered Alaska’s Homeland Security to waterboard Russia’s baby seals, but that just made them drink more vodka and much more happy. They even started singing those Volga boat songs.
Conservatism is dead, and the arrogance that once suppressed freedom is gone, but the after-scent of bitterness and scorched-earth spitefullness is ruining any bipartisanship this country will need to move forward in the new millenia.
BTW: Anyone notice the yellow crime scene tape some gas stations use to cordon off the empty pumps? (I’ll let you write the bit implied by that fact.)
Oh, that’s right, you’re Rushannity hacks who cant think for themselves anymore.
Seems a shame. The gas crisis is fertile ground.

A partial list of tonight’s questions has been leaked
Mayor Palin, Barack Obama is a handsome, charismatic demigod. How many boxes of Kleenex will you need after your crushing loss?
Senator Biden, what is your favorite color? And if you have time for a follow-up question: Why?
Mayor, you talk funny and you own a tanning bed. Why haven’t you released Trig’s birth certificate?
Senator, have you seen those pictures of Obama in his swim trunks? If not, I have them right here.
Mayor, what are the names, ages, and blood types of all 71 members of the Belgian Senate? And why are you unwilling to admit that your inability to instantly produce any and every fact I demand makes you unfit to stand in the way of history?
Senator, you’ve spoken at length. Could you please continue?
Mayor, which is your preferred method of stifling dissent, banning books or burning them? Since it’s both, please explain how you can deny the accusation that you’re a fascist, which I am making now.
Senator, could you please sign my book?

Everyone is concerned about Palin!!!! Huh! This is classic misdirection by the Dems. With Obama’s resume’ and his circle of kooks and radicals, he is no more prepared to be President than Palin. The ONLY reason he is the nominee is because he is black. Please state for us to read, his particular expertise or experience supported by evidence that he actually has this expertise and experience. NADA! His veneer is so thin that you have to look through a microscope to find it.
Palin’s not prepared to be President! Well duh, she is not running for President. Obama is not prepared either and he is running for President. Obama has so many positions on policies or initiatives that are continuing to evolve that he puts the Kama Sutra to shame.
Be careful folks, the color of one’s skin is important now but not necessarily one’s character.

Here’s all you need to know about ABC “News”/ Washington Post polls:
(ASKED OF REGISTERED VOTERS) Who do you think deserves the most blame for the current financial situation? 1st President Bush 25% 2nd Wall Street financial institutions/Banks 18%
Apparently, the pollsters have found the motherlode of ignorance and are busy mining it for the results that they desire.
May I ask a silly question, we all know full well that the drive by media is in the bag for Oblahma, so who is doing oversight on their polling procedures?
Do they use independent verification?
No amount of squealing is going to stop the blood bath from taking place tonight, kookman, no matter how much lipstick you put on the pig Biden.

It is good to be King of a Blog.
Jay can attack McCain and Palin with no need for integrity or fair play. Jay can ignore anything and everything negative about Obama/Biden. Jay can delete or block any entry that he wants.
But we can understand Jay’s condition. He was filled with venom and hate because Bush defeated Gore. Then, curse the voters, Bush defeated Kerry. Bile is rolling in Jay’s stomach.

The rightwing knows Palin will continue to look like an idiot tonight - that is why they have positioned themselves to blame it on Gwen Ifle and lump her in with the NYT tomorrow. Nobody in the McCain camp really wants Ifle recused, as this would take away the excuse they will play tomorrow when the public continues to shake their head in disbelief at McCain’s mistake of a VP pick.

A special word is in order here for Congress. Today we’re running a collection of greatest Member hits in defense of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The guilty deserve such attention because those two government-sponsored enterprises did so much to turbocharge the credit mania. By providing subsidized rates of return to global investors, they helped fuel the bubble in housing and mortgage-backed securities that is now haunting so many financial institutions.-Wall Street Journal

I happen to be one of those American voters who are appalled by this VP choice. Even if one factors stage fright into the equation, her answers to Katie’s questions were comically ridiculous, nonsensical ramblings. I never thought anyone could actually make Dubya look articulate, who knew?
I am in Chicago at present. I am eager to watch the debates and may do so from a neighborhood hang out. I want to see how other people view her performance, even though this is Obama territory. There are a number of meetings going on here at present. One of my Georgia colleagues stated she loves her and “she is me”. I truly like and admire this person, but I would not want her in the Presidency. On the airport shuttle another professional white woman from Kentucky brought up her concerns about Palin and intends to vote for Obama. (she is here for an AMA meeting) So my point is professional white women are still up for grabs here and this may seal the deal.
I will continue my informal poll and let you know the results. We have a wide piece of the American demographics up here, albeit most of the ones I will be in contact with are in the medical field.

The wingnuts started drinkin’ early this morning, I see. Given the polling news, I can’t say I blame them.
If I had to call the debate, I’ll say it’s probably going to contain one memorably stupid utterance by Palin (that’ll be explained away by her fawning, if dwindling, fan base), but that otherwise she’ll seem not totally loopy and, and that’ll be called a “draw” for her by a mainstream media that doesn’t really want this to turn into a blowout, not yet, anyway, with all those commerical ad revenue yet to come.
A perceived draw would be a kind of a victory, if it helps stop the polling slide.
Biden’s an old hand at these things. Those who saw him earlier this year/late last year in the Democratic primary debates know he’s comfortable in these settings, and he’s been enjoying himself on the stump. He’ll be on his best behavior; if he chuckles or even smiles it’s got to be in a non-condescending way, and I’m sure one of his smiles or chuckles will be replayed as an indication that he somehow disrespected Palin.

In a Baltimore speech last week, Biden said: “If you want to know where Al Qaeda lives, you want to know where (Usama) bin Laden is, come back to Afghanistan with me. Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where
“We sat up there and traded stories,” Kerry joked. “We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn’t have to do it.”

For behind it all sat Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, running mortgage liquidity into the nation’s neighborhoods like an open fire hydrant. Several years ago, when the Journal’s editorial board met with Fannie Mae’s top executives and pressed the issue of financial risks, we were told by way of ending the conversation that Fannie was merely fulfilling the “mandate of Congress” to spread home ownership across the land. Congress, of course, is a temple to moral hazard.
This subject — risk and political moral hazard — should be at the center of our derailed presidential campaign and its debates. Liberals don’t like to hear moral-hazard arguments raised against social-policy goals. The current mortgage nightmare, however, grew primarily from Congress’s insistence on increasing home ownership by reducing its risks.-Wall Street Journal

Then about 2:00, Face the Nation opens with their usual liberal copy, followed by Terri Gross, the biggest Bush hater on the planet. This is followed by All Things Considered who has a talking head by the name of Robert Segal. Segal was at the RNC and handled himself like a PETA member at a Michael Vick dogfight.
We fund this station with our tax dollars. It is supported, just like the NEA as some sort of national treasure. It is far from it.

On Fannie and Franklin Raines:
(FORTUNE Magazine) – On a sunny Monday in June 2002, President George W. Bush stood in the St. Paul AME Church in a formerly dilapidated neighborhood on the south side of Atlanta. Sitting in prime seats were Franklin Raines, the CEO of Fannie Mae, and Leland Brendsel, the CEO of Freddie Mac. The President was there to unveil an initiative aimed at helping 5.5 million minority families buy homes before the end of the decade—“Part of being a secure America,” he said, “is to encourage home-ownership.”
In October 2002, at the White House Conference on Minority Home Ownership, Raines and Caldwell were both on hand to be praised warmly by Bush for their work.

It’s pathetic really.
During that interview when Couric asked her the magazine/newspaper question, you could almost see her mind racing, trying to come up with what she considered the RIGHT answer, it’s like she’s thinking,
“Okay, now what would my coach tell me to say?”
Instead she said something horribly awful, “All of them.” WTF? Nobody reads all of them.

By Felix October 2, 2008 9:18 AM In October 2002, at the White House Conference on Minority Home Ownership, Raines and Caldwell were both on hand to be praised warmly by Bush for their work.
Uh-
2003: President G.W. Bush administration recommended what the NY Times called “the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.” This change was to move governmental supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under a new agency created within the Department of the Treasury. The changes were opposed by the congressional minority Democratic Party and failed.
You’re barking up the wrong tree, Felix.

GOPs got to go,
Perhaps a knife is what we need. If Old Joe even hints at a repeat of Anita Hill, there will be ripples felt all over the country. Biden is so full of himself, just give him a microphone and a few people and he turns into his own kind of pit bull. Maybe a few days of coaching by a few ladies has lessened the blow but give Sarah an opening and she will gut him like a moose. And you need a knife for that.

Yeah, you’re right (“Sarah Palin has already faced twice the scrutiny in a few short weeks that Obama has in his 18 months…”).
Now granted the pressure on Obama would have been lower at the beginning of the primary process and not as high-exposure as Palin’s situation now is.
But don’t you think we would have noticed if he had completely blanked on basic questions of national affairs? And don’t you thnk Hillary Clinton would have smelled blood and ripped him into a thousand pieces?
I’m just trying to think how that would have played out if in fact Barack Obama had been unable to answer basic questions of fact about national life and recent political history.

Ray,
Chairman of the NEA, Dan Gioia, is a national treasure. He turned the NEA around and was twice appointed by Bush himself, but is stepping down, I think, at the end of the year to continue his writing career.
Most of the NEA’s funding was concentrated in New York and New England for many years, and during his tenure as Chairman has worked to ensure that the funding is dispersed evenly throughout the country.
He has initiated several new programs with very successful results: The Big Read, Shakespeare in American Communities, Poetry Out Loud, NEA Jazz Masters, just to name a few.
Educate yourself with the NEA and Chairman Gioia before you go slamming it.

Gee.
What is more “alarming”…..that someone who has been a Governor of a state for two years is running for Vice President or that someone who has been a Senator for four is running for President?
What is more “alarming”….that someone who might not be ready to be President could be “a heartbeat away” or that someone else whose readiness is equally questionable could be a couple of more votes away?
Unfortunately, if the mainstream liberal media were focusing on Senator Obama’s lack of experience as actively as they are on Governor Palin’s, he would not have even won his party’s nomination. There are definitely positives to having the media completely abandon all pretense of objectivity (not that it ever existed) to serve as an unpaid, de facto marketing wing of your campaign.
This will make it all the more entertaining to watch their confusion and complaining when he still loses.

Republicans had control, why couldn’t they pass it by themselves for “their” inept, unqualified president? Who’s to say it would have been any different if it had passed?
It’s a lot easier to blame it on Carter, Clinton and Franklin Raines than actually expect this administration to take any responsibility for anything. They were complicit or negligent, or somewhere in between.
Certainly there is plenty of blame to go around, much of it to the loan originators and ratings companies.

Yes, true, Sarah Palin is a woman of sterling common sense. She exploits common sense for all that it’s worth and for mutual benefit of these United States of America. Because the American people are common people and she has the common sense to usher in the natural common sense that’s inherent to this proud union and make it proud nation of common people. It’s not uncommon pride, like aristocratic nations in distant lands. No, she recognizes true virtue and lets that shine without pretense. May God bless this fine, virtuous, and above all, uncommonly common-sensical woman to rescue this troubled nation when what is needed is above all, an especially common kind of sense.

The Clarence Thomas hearings were enough for me. He hasn’t changed. Why was he coached for the last several days by ladies to keep him from making lady mistakes? If he is such a shining light in the debate arena, why would he need any coaching by anyone against a stupid woman opponent who doesn’t have a clue? He is an old Irish politician with an Irish temper that will have to be held in check, especially with a woman. Danny @ 9.44, those are interesting what-ifs. I’d like to go a step further and ask “What if McCain had been serious about making Palin his VP candidate, instead of making what most have seen as an impulsive, last-minute decision?”
McCain had a ton of time after securing the nomination to make his decision known, and whatever he would’ve lost in surprise value (I’ll grant that his Friday-after-Obama-Speech did succeed in swamping the news cycle) surely would have been a net gain in prepping the nation. Palin is a generally appealing individual with a few forgivable quirks; I think the campaign would’ve been much better served had they barnstormed the country beginning in June, and provided a few key interviews to journalists along the way.
Instead, we got this VP candidate that (I’m being charitable here) 95% of the country had never even heard of. This late in the contest, what was he thinking?
Ray @ 10.02, that’s laughable. You haven’t heard Biden live for 17 years? And as for coaching, EVERYONE gets debate coaching. Everyone has a stand-in for the opponent to practice; why wouldn’t any competent campaigner? It’s weird that you would see it as a sign of weakness.
I should remind you, too, that your perceptions of how “full of himself” aren’t terribly important, since folks like you and me, who are dug-in, aren’t the target here, but rather the mushy-middle “undecideds”. (You can at least agree to that, can’t you?)

Ragger,
What I think I hear Danny saying is that Palin appeals to a different kind of voter than most anyone else running in this election. None of them appear on PBS (probably have never listened), none have written books or know about the NEA, most are what you might call somewhat uneducated by Northeastern standards, they certainly don’t have Harvard educations…… but they are the lifeblood of this country. They yearn for an elected official who is not in someone’s pocket, appear a bit like them, is not your typical Demo/Repub politico who doesn’t have a clue about what a struggle life is in these times. They run small businesses, strive to meet the bills and keep America what it should be, responsible, accountable, honest and hard working. She is the only one who is running who I can identify with. Her poll numbers just after her speech reflect this and I am not alone in those thoughts. Maybe it is a pipedream to expect our politicians to have all of the attributes of just a common man and not some kind of super hero. Give me someone with common sense who is a good decision maker anytime….. I’ll take that over a Harvard educated lawyer any day.

What if McCain had been serious about making Palin his VP candidate, instead of making what most have seen as an impulsive, last-minute decision..
Ed Rollins (whose powers of observation some might call canny) suggests the problem is one of the McCain campaign’s own making by which he means they have in effect shut the candidate in a box, then suddenly threw her to the wolves once those wolves had had a chance to get really hungry (once anticipation has turned to anger).
As one who’s fascinated by the infinate intricacies and breath-taking surprises of rhetoric, PR, and all other things holy, I’m wondering what would have happened if instead of doing what they did, they had - as other wise heads have suggested - immediately put her on a rotation through low-key and small-bore media outlets, culminating with her own full-blown press conference which she could have then - accord. to the theory - knocked out of the park.
Specifically, they could have assigned her one topic — one area of policy — that she would “own”. Her task would be to study for that one area like she was studying for the bar with the goal of becoming one of the world’s leading micro-experts (from a Republican point of view of course). In this one area she would build up as much confidence as possible and would be able to whipsaw off the head of any hungry journalistic wolves who might lurk near her baby. As for all other areas, she’d be instructed to cheerfully repeat something along the lines of “It’s not my area of expertise, Katie, but in good time I’ll be able to get back to you ….” or something equally dismissive.
As for the newspaper question, she could have said: “Well I used to read Pravda, but it’s hard to get copies nowadays ya know, ha ha”.

A debate? I doubt it. Each candidate will be given a few seconds to regurgitate a canned, memorized, coached answer. Too many other more important factors exist! NOT
Examples:
1..Is the moderator biased? 2..Will Biden try to lecture, or heaven forbid show his knowledge of foreign policy etc. ? ? 3..Please, don’t smile, you might appear to be condescending!!!
This will be so structured and contained that neither candidate will win or lose, provided Palin answers the questions. The answer doesn’t have to be good, but an answer will be required. Should be interesting.

I’m a conservative and I like Palin as a person, and I think her views are on target for the most part (as many conservatives, I think the majority republican approach to war and globo-copping is unconstitutional).
However, I disfavor women in leadership roles as a general principle. Men and women are different, and their roles are distinct. To ignore that is foolish, whether one is a republican, democrat or whatever.
There are a lot of good conservative thinking women I admire in many ways. But I do not and would not as a general rule favor them holding positions of leadership and authority.
I do not equate leadership with influence. There is no question that women are and rightfully should be a strong influence in the decision-making process.
However, there is also no question that the differences in the basic make up of men and women go beyond the mere physiological, and to deny that is really just stupid.
So, no, Palin as a VP pick was not a good move. Coy political gimmick? Sure. It created a phenomenal and unexpected buzz. But as great a person as I think she is, she is not who I will vote for as vp.
Of course, Biden’s extreme left-wing statist dogma conjures images of goose-stepping government agents marching into our homes to regulate every aspect of human activity to the nth degree, according to the radical wet dreams of some Venezualan communist revolutionary. Not a pretty picture.

Danny @10.44, that sounds sensible. Problem is, there just wouldn’t have ever been sufficient time to do what Rollins proposes with the conventions scheduled when they were.
I know it’s foolish to pronounce the VP choice as foolish—it would wind up looking like genius if McCain manages to win, of course—but it was, in this time frame. He could’ve achieved a similar excitement among the base if he’d groveled a bit and asked Huckabee (I know the two aren’t exactly best buds). But he’s, you know, “mavericky.” which America’s coming to understand is another word for “d!ckish.”

The liberal media wants to portray Governor Palin as a religious extremist. Why? Because Governor Palin is a Christian. According to liberal thinking (or lack thereof), no one is too extreme to run for public office in the United States except Christians. Obama says that he is a Christian, but obviously the media does not take his “brand” of Christianity too seriously.
The media must believe that Sarah Palin is serious about her Christian faith, because you would think they were hunting down an al-Qaeda terrorist the way they are attacking her religious background. The fact that Sarah Palin prays makes her very suspicious to the secular progressive elite in our country. They look down on her as a witless wonder because she believes in God and that He created the universe and mankind. They fear her Catholic background; her Pentecostal background; and her evangelical background more than they do a suicide bomber. They fear she might be influenced by what she reads in the Bible. Why? Because she is a Christian.
Who would ever imagine that one morning in America you would wake up to hear reporters attacking Christianity and trying to portray anyone associated with it as some kind of religious Nazi? Imagine secular progressives, who know even less about Christianity than they do Islam, criticizing someone’s adherence to Christian values and the historic Christian faith.
Nevertheless, the media is exposing how far it has disconnected with the American people and bought in to its own lies.

On my drive back I was thinking about situational parallels between the Bush Administration and the Democratic Congress.
You, and others, have roundly criticized President Bush and his administration for not reversing nearly 8 years of Clinton Administration policy, changing the mindset of the Federal bureaucracy, revamping how the Defense Dept, Justice Dept, State Dept and intelligence agencies viewed and acted against bin Laden and AQ
In the 8 months from when they took office to 9-11.
Why are not the Democratic leadership and the heads of the House and Senate Banking Committees held to the same standard of criticism for the two years they’ve held power to attempt to offset or negate the Bush Administration’s policies that led to this current economic debacle?

Of course, the progressive media has already determined their winner. Now it’s just a matter of framing it with politically correct words. Heaven help us if they lose again, hate hath no fury like a liberal scorned.., twice. Err.., thrice?

I do not know if people are intelligent these days or not. But I do know that I want a vice president and president that can clearly and effectively articulate ideas that are going to effect the direction of this country. I do not want the “average” person working in a factory a heartbeat away from the presidency. We had an average president and that did not work out so well. If you like the direction that the country has gone in the last eight years, then McCain and Palin should easily win. I think we need a new strategy and that is why I am voting for Obama, clearly the intellectual in this race.

KFG,
Voting because Palin is “perky”, well you should vote for Tina Fey, she’s perky too. By the way, I hope that you make over 250K per year, because if you do not, McCain’s policies are not in your best interest.

Reading all the comments posted here is like reading hate mail from adolescents, with only a few exceptions. Have Americans lost their dignity? Have they lost any sense of decency and morality? It seems any quest for truth has been summarily abandoned. If this nation is ever to recover, we must have at least some modicum of unity, civility and seek intelligent means of getting American back on track. IS ANYBODY OUT THERE LISTENING?

Bosch @ 10:47 — yeah, that angry old white dude is about to blow another gasket! Just ask him a question about his campaign ads’ inaccuracies and he just fumes with hatred for the interviewer— his desperation is ugly and scary these days.

My gradmother taught me that you call a spade a spade, and I agree that listening to Palin talk for more than three or four minutes really brings out a side sympathy in me that I did not think I had. I mean it is not her fault that McCain wanted to use her to get Hillary’s 18 million supporters, by the way McCain has even less womem votes today than he had before he picked Palin. When conservatives like Kathleen Parker pleads for Palin to drop out of the race, it is not looking good for McCain. I think that tonight might be the last that we hear of Palin, if McCain is smart. But, then again McCain is stubborn to a fault.

Time to vote for anybody but the Incumbent, regardless of the party. Well said. That’s been my plan all along regarding the local and state races here in Georgia. That means voting against all of the Republicans that have helped screw up this country since there aren’t any Incumbents that aren’t Republicans on the ballot. At the federal level, even though Bush is not running, his party’s new candidate is even worse than he is and the last thing we need is four more years of the same or worse so I’m treating the Republican ticket as the “Incumbent ” ticket and voting against it also. It’s the logical thing to do.

Paul,
Who do you consider the Presidential incumbent in your ABI strategy?
I just as soon vote against Saxby after his gang of ten stunt, but my US Representative is unopposed, as are my State Representative and Senator.
Your strategy would have me hoping there were some juicy ballot initiatives.
See y’all for Happy Hour and Debate Night. I hear there’s a Sarah Palin bingo game you can download.

For Goldie:
Let’s pretend for moment that Obama is white and his name is Billy Joe… he attends a church for 25 years where the propaganda for the KKK and white supremacists is spewed forth each Sunday using the pulpit to blame the blacks for all of the ills of society; he very publicly associates with very well known Klanners who are overt in their dislike for the USA and blacks; has not ever held a job where he is accountable for success or failure; uses the “community organizer” as the pinnacle of success for getting whites to vote and to be very vocal about the ills of society caused by blacks; has been a senator for less than 15 months; has rarely voted on anything with a “yea” or “nay” but just “present”, etc. Do you really believe that this “white guy” would be in Obama’s position as the nominee of the party or would ever have been in a conversation about being elected to the Senate in the first place? If you do believe that he would be then no amount of logic or reason could possibly penetrate a closed mind.

I don’t consider either candidate ‘the incumbent,’ I was referring to those currently in office currently running for the same position.
If people want to extend that to party in the Presidential election, then consistency requires they also turn out the Democratic majority in Congress.
Unopposed? That’s a shame.

Once again, the dumb masses, who get their news/talking points from MoveOn.org, lame stream media (ABC, NCS, CBS, CNN), and People magazine, are lining up behind a bunch of rhetoric. You hear “The Chosen One” speak from the mount about failed Bush policies have gotten us in this economic mess, but yet it was none other then Obama and his goons to the left who have stone walled repeatedly when questions were raised years ago about the mortgage mess and the impact it would have. And since you liberals seem to have forgotten, you have the majority in the house and senate. If the bail out bill that was caused by Bush policies was so good, why couldn’t you get enough democrats to vote for it? Is it any wonder that the approval ratings for the democratic house and senate are at 10%.

I dropped into some independent sites to see where their heads are at in this election. I wasn’t surprised to find this from a site exclusively addressing “Third Party & Independent Voters” (which for some reason can’t be brought here with a link.)
Don’t Vote 2008!
For some independents we just plainly should not vote for President in 2008. It is actually our best available option to just not vote for the highest office in the country.
Many states in 2008 will offer third party candidates on the ballots, some even will have multiple third pary candidates on the ballot. In this case we should vote, it is our obligation, but it is our obligation because we actually have an opportunity to express our opinions. In some states however there will be no third party candidates, but for some people this should not stop them. If one of the candidates in the major parties represent your views than you should vote for that candidate.
Now to deal with the rest of us, who just are not represented at all. If you are one of the unlucky who will not be able to stomach agreeing with, and thus voting for, one of the two major party candidates and also live in a state with no third party candidates you are one of us. I should know I live in Virginia, a state where there is basically no chance of seeing a third party Presidential candidate.
Most people will tell you that well you don’t have any third party candidate to vote for and well you don’t have any candidate who represents your views at all but you still have to vote, because if you don’t vote you have no right to talk of politics. This is complete you know what. The whole essence of this argument is to hurt third parties in two ways:
1. Scare their supporters into voting for one of the two major parties, and thus gaining some sort of loyalty towards that party at least as presidential politics goes.
2. Scaring their supporters to vote major party and by doing this the exit polls of independent voters who voted major party will be of a higher percentage, although it will not be told to you that in many of those states these people had no alternative. By increasing the percentage of independent voters who voted major party you thus discredit third parties and help maintain the two party duopoly as far as presidential voting patterns is concerned.
In light of the public’s recent outrage against the bailout, I wouldn’t count on these voters to support OBlahMa or McCain. They have an objective that they believe, is in the interest of the American voter.
Having said that, I am an independent voter because in Clayton County, the choice is clear…….vote Democrat — it’s the only choice I’m given. In this year’s presidential race? I’ll go with McCain for this reason and that he was one of those who called early attention to the Fannie/Freddie threat.
OBlahMa does not have the cunning necessary to deal with a Vladimir Putin, or a threat to our economy, McCain does.
Governor Palin has a grasp on how important domestic drilling is in the interest of our national security. No matter what OBlahMa is saying now, I believe he will compensate for budget shortfalls by gutting defense spending, pulling us out of Iraq to fund domestic and social programs he’s promoted.
Not a good idea with Putin on the prowl. He uses his gas and oil reserves to intimidate our allies. George Friedman, Stratfor, made an astute observation regarding the debates…….both candidates were relying heavily on our allies when confronting Russia. Neither candidate was asked how they might confront Russia in the event our allies couldn’t afford to run the risk of having their energy supplies cut off.
Then I read yesterday where Russians, if permitted, would vote for OBlahMa.
No thanks!

Just look at most of the Obama supporters and then look at McCain supporters and you tell me who has their house in better order. Obama will be eleted for a few reasons: white guilt; voter fraud; idiots; voter fraud; people who were too stuipd to realize what an interest rate was when they lied on their mortgage applications to get a loan; voter fraud; idiots who think celebrities are cool; voter fraud; ACORN; crooked black churches and yes….voter fraud.

The DemoRAT party is running scaired of this TRUE PATRIOT!! Sarah may not have book smarts but she’s got sense. Sarah is a real American and like REAL AMERICANS she took 6 years to get a bachelors from a low quality state university! THIS shows that she relates to REAL AMERICANS and this is the kind of person I want talking to PUTIN. I bet Obama can’t even relate to PUTIN with his Harvard Law Degree! He’s not a REAL AMERICAN like Sarah Barracuda!

The Democrats and the Lamestream Media are trying to make Sarah Palin look bad because she is a real Christian and not a white hating, fake Christian like Oblama.
Sarah Palin is a True Christian and she has explained this many times. Let me give the Truth to you libs and Christian haters that oppress Christians so much. Here is what Sarah and all True Christians believe. 1. The Earth is only 6000 years old. 2. Dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time. Dinosaurs only ate plants and they were friendly to humans. 3. Jesus is coming in our lifetimes. 4. God has chosen Sarah Palin to be president. Why do you think she rose from obscurity so quickly? 5. When the rapture occurs, which will be soon, only Pentecostals will be saved and brought into Heaven. Fake Christians like Baptists, Methodists, and (ugh) Catholics will be Left Behind.
I’m sorry libs but you can’t oppress us Christians forever.

Do you really believe that this “white guy” would be in Obama’s position as the nominee of the party or would ever have been in a conversation about being elected to the Senate in the first place?
Thanks for your post, Eddy, @ 12:31 — and I certainly do believe that any “white guy” could be in Obama’s position today, but only IF he was someone who found it within himself: to rise up from very humble beginnings, to make it not only through law school but to be smart enough to be chosen as the editor of the Harvard Law Review (no easy feat for anyone, whether white or not), to work within communities of poverty and inspire those residents to achieve success in getting out of poverty by finding jobs and overcoming various obstacles in life, to teach law school students at a city college, to run for local office and get elected as a state congressperson and then get elected as a US Senator in Washington DC, and to be able to inspire other Americans to get involved in their own communities to get involved in the political process to make positive changes happen — THEN YES, by all means, any “white guy” could find himself in the same position that Barack Obama is today… it obviously takes a very special person to achieve such enormous goals.
SO, how about you, Eddy— Could you yourself even achieve all those positive, inspiring goals in your own life, working hard to make your dreams happen in order to achieve the enormous success that Obama is having today? How many people do you inspire in your life to rise above their huge obstacles and point to a better future for those all around you???
And thanks again for asking, Eddy — it’s been my pleasure answering your profound questions.

It’s sad when the GOP has to give Palin a bootcamp to catch her up to speed on what’s going on nationally and internationally and to learn about the issues McCain supports. McCain rebuked Obama for suggesting we should attack Pakastain if necessary - but yet when his partner echoed the same thing - he didn’t say a word…Palin - what team are you on?? McCain or Obama??? Okay, to the first point … did they do some sort of test that people with glasses have a higher IQ than people that don’t?? If so, can you point me in the direction of that, because I’d like to see the results.
Second point, the Media doesn’t have to make Sarah Palin look bad she is doing that all on her own. I mean, have you heard some of the nonsense that has come out of her mouth when she’s asked a question?? OMG, I really do feel sorry for the poor woman because she really is a complete ditz.

What scares me about Palin is McCain’s rash decision to chose her as his running mate after meeting with her for only an hour. That’s what’s scarey! I don’t want a President who makes such important decisions with such casualness! I mean!
