Early signs of enthusiasm for Obama
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
According to Secretary of State Karen Handel’s office, black turnout in early voting has been disproportionately strong. Black Georgians make up 29 percent of our population and slightly less of our voter turnout, but so far they comprise almost 40 percent of those who have voted early or by absentee.
(As Jim Galloway explains at the Political Insider, Georgia is required by federal law to track voter turnout by race, as a consequence of its legacy of voter suppression).
That’s even more significant when you consider that in normal years, black voters have been less likely than their fellow Georgians to take advantage of early and absentee voting. If that turnout surge holds, it could play a significant role in the outcome of down-ticket races.
Of course, most of those black Georgians will probably be voting for Barack Obama, a fact that a few of our less thoughtful readers will try to depict as some sort of black racism. (Yes, they are actually that silly — see comments below). It takes a pretty perverse outlook to see things that way, but some people do manage the trick.

Jay, according to liberals, whites only vote for white candidates because they’re white. Why, then, is the reverse situation so “silly” to you. I’d love to know. But I already know the answer: typical liberal hypocrisy.

The black vote goes 90 to 95% for Democrats in any recent election, so why would Jay B think it’s odd that the vast majority of blacks are voting for Obama. Last I checked Obama calls himself a Democrat.
By the way, Jay, your numbers are fairly meaningless unless you have some hard evidence that this 40% is comprised of a significant number of new voters. If it’s mostly the same people that have turned out year after year then there’s no difference in the ultimate count at all.

Nice try Jay. You’re attempting to keep rational people from pointing out that racism exists on both sides of the color barrier. Are you one of the liberals who doesn’t think it’s possible for blacks to be racist? Based on what? Until this color issue becomes a 2 way street, no progress will be made. When Don Imus gets fired for his comments and Jesse Jackson gets excused for his with no fallout, it p** people off. Thats not the even playing field minorities have been asking for. It’s out of balance and will do nothing but perpetuate this nations race problems.
I saw a poll in the USA Today last week that 50% of blacks consider themselves to be blacks before they consider themselves to be Americans. I’d say that’s a bit of a problem.

Taxpayer: posting comments on here will not help keep the AJC afloat.
It’s all about subscriptions and advertising. I never have and never will pay for a copy of the AJC, nor do I ever even read the print copy even though I could for free.
I’m not interested in paying for, thus supporting, a paper that actually bashes the police departments, sticks up for criminals, hates whites, and hates the country.
Once the print edition goes belly up, which should happen in a couple of years, they might splinter off into online only with banner ads for support. But even that will probably only last as long as NetZero did…lmao.

Remember yesterday when we said liberal policy is largely based on scare mongering and then I got scoffed at?:
“We don’t have a lot of leeway on time,” Hairy Reed told reporters in the Capitol. “One of the individuals in the caucus today talked about a major insurance company — a major insurance company — one with a name that everyone knows that’s on the verge of going bankrupt. That’s what this is all about.”
Uh, maybe not:
“Senator Reed is not personally aware of any particular company being on the verge of bankruptcy,” Manley wrote in an e-mail to ABCNews.com. “Rather, his comments were meant to refer to the conditions in the financial sector generally. He regrets any confusion his comments may have caused.”
Reed is sicko for socialism.

The fact that the campaign itself is reporting a cumulative balance in excess of the legal limit means they know, or should know, that they’ve got more money on hand than they’re supposed to have. And like McCarthy says, it’s only because “Good Will” was so stupid as to use the same phony identity for all of his donations that he crossed the $200 reporting threshold in the first place. A smart, determined fraudster would have used multiple identities.
With such lax vetting of foreign contributions, the Obama campaign may have indirectly contributed to questionable fundraising by foreigners
With Obama out on the trail talking about how his campaign is being funded by small donors all across America, you would think he would follow McCain’s lead and release his full donor list, not just the donors over $200.00.

Lots of folks in Georgia don’t read the AJC.
Lots of big words in there. Their lips and fingers hurt when they have to read so much.
And why read when you can listen to some loudmouth spew hate and whining on the radio or the TV?
Let’s face it - Georgia doesn’t have a “reading” culture. A culture where over 40% of the people drop out of free high school is a degenerate culture, and has NOTHING to offer civilization, except heartache, sorrow, and more misery.
For the record - I am just as white as the whitest of you. All of my great-grandparents were northern Europeans - Poles, Prussians, Germans, Irish, English, Austrians.
Think of me as a Chris Rock or Bill Cosby for the white race.

It’s not a hard phenomenon to understand, folks, except for those of you too blinded by your own racism to allow yourselves to see it.
In 1976 and 1980, a lot more Georgians voted for the Democratic nominee than they would have otherwise. Why? Because they were proud that Jimmy Carter was from Georgia, and no Georgian politician had ever been elected president before. Seeing him up there made them proud of their state and themselves, especially after so many decades in which the South in general and Georgia in particular had been looked down upon.
Likewise, when John McCain chose Sarah Palin, he did so in part out of the hope that she would draw support from women to his ticket. He wanted to tap into the pride those women would feel at seeing the first woman nominated by the GOP.
Does that mean he was playing to the hate those women felt for their own husbands, brothers, sons and fathers? No, that would be silly.
Again, it’s not a hard thing to understand, except for those who want to excuse their own racism by claiming to see it in others.
And for the record, yes, there certainly can be black racism. But this isn’t it by a long shot.

There are a noticeable number of throwbacks to the hate generation in our state. That makes the fight for a truly American state of Georgia all the more exciting.
I see and speak to racist and sexist pigs every day. It’s gross, no doubt about it. We all learn to live with people who’s right to exist we recognize but whose world view we see as sick and twisted.

Here’s hoping a portion of Georgia’s black voters will vote in opposition to OBlahMa because of his ties with Planned Parenthood and his BAIPA votes in Illinois.
I was googling ACORN today and ran across this:
Yes, little acorns grow into great oaks, but the odds are slim. Some say 1 in 10,000 acorns grow into a tree. Seeds may dry out before getting “planted” by nature. They may be eaten by birds, squirrels or other wildlife, and many just rot.
The important thing is to use “good” acorns. Those that fall first are usually defective. Get them when the main crop starts to fall, before they have a chance to dry out or get moldy. Put a clean tarp under a tree and gather fresh ones. You also can knock them to the ground using a long pole.
Discard dark green, cracked, hollow, moldy, lightweight or small acorns.
When you get home, remove the caps with a gentle twist. If they don’t come off easily, it means they’re not ripe enough. Place the acorns in a pan of water and discard any that float. Towel dry the sinkers and put them in a zipper-type plastic bag and place them in the vegetable bin of your refrigerator. They should be kept as cool as possible but not allowed to freeze. This will keep them fresh until you’re ready to plant them. Check them periodically and discard any that are moldy.
Kinda reminds me of how the far-left wing of the democratic party have and will continue to diminish the black community through Planned Parenthood.
Dr. King would be proud of Alveda. I know I am…..

And I could care less for those blacks who will call me an Aunt Thomasina, handkerchief head negro, sellout, oreo, etc., etc., etc. I am a proud Christian (first), Conservative American and I will not waste a vote on this empty suit.
And yes Jay while it is true that most blacks would have voted for the Democrat candidate under any circumstance; the way blacks bloodied each other during the Democratic primaries is where the real “black racism” lies.
Black delegates such as John Lewis and other voters who expressed support for Hillary over Barack were “literally forced” to change their vote by being called every name but a child of God (Uncle Toms, Oreos, SellOuts) by those blacks who wanted Barack to get the nomination.
Black pride is one thing, but, no one should be threatened and intimated into changing their vote just because others are hell bent on having the first A-A President at any cost.

Good Lord-
The hatred and racism is really out on display isn’t it? Obama’s up across the nation, they are predicting over 350 evs…and all it has done is stirred up the racism.
And despite what the repub apologists will say, if you look at the racist comments, they are all coming from YOUR side.
Dottie? your comment was truly atrocious. You, my dear, are dotty-dotty in your logic. Take a sensitivity class-take a class in diversity. Apparently you’re the type of woman who sees a black man coming at her and acts like a scared rabbit.
Newsflash: From my neck o’ the woods, the free lunch kids are all white.
My black husband- works not one, but TWO jobs…and I, a middle aged white woman, also work two.I would bet that he and any one of his relatives-all have degrees, all til this day work multiple jobs- have a better work ethic than half the people here.
Black folks have never been as motivated as they are this year. The phenomenon they are reporting has to do with the fact that many minorities are voting for the first time. This is the real reason they are getting out the vote!
Is it so terrible to want to see yourself represented?
As for me (and my entire family-we were hillary people), we are thrilled that someone other than an old white guy will have a chance to mess up the country.
The racism here is truly, truly, TRULY vile.

Outrage.. Those people out there living off of my hard earned money. Out there listening to that crazy music. Those people that live on Wall Street with their food stamps. LOL.. Not really funny, but either laugh or cry.
You know what will be fun for me? Since we got this whole race thing going. No kidding. When it has been predicted in, 2042. When a white person walks by, I’m going to quickly lock my car door and look nervously away.hahahahahaha.
Who knew that blacks could ruin the economy, and force people into feeling guilty enough to finally vote in a democratic candidate that happens to be black. We are taking over.. LOL Simple minded jerks. Get real.

“Black folks have never been as motivated as they are this year”
You come on here, call other people racist, and then make that comment. Please tell us all why black folks are more motivated this election cycle. Is it because John Kerry and Al Gore weren’t liberal enough to excite them into a voting frenzy and you now have the most liberal senator in Washington to get excited about? Or are they excited because he’s black? Is voting for him because he’s black any different than not voting for him because he’s black? They’re equally as racist if you’re honest about what racism really is. But, based on past history of liberals, I doubt you have that level of honesty.

I am self employed so I don’t have to kiss anyones butt or give a damn what anyone else feels when I say whatever I feel like, and thats liberating.
and yes, whites who are a 64% majority do have a littler over 52% of the nationwide free and reduced lunches…blacks who are 12.9% account for 34& ..I’m actually amazed the schools don’t serve chitlins to appease their minority students parents.

A lesson on biracial folks, before I go
Saw yet another post about Obama’s white/black background and his not identifying as white…and well, I just hadda.
Self-identification of mixed race people is INTERNAL. They decide what race they most identify with, not based on what they SEE in a mirror, but how they feel inside. As the mother of two bi-racial young gentlemen, my sons have not chosen one race over another, and are very comfortable choosing “other.”
You can slap any damned label YOU want, but the bottom line is this: unless they feel it, they won’t identify the way you think they should.
Remember the outcry because Tiger Woods wouldn’t select a single race??? My sons were little then, and even they knew why he didn’t and articulated that (they were in elementary school at the time, too).
However, because MY children feel this way, that does not mean all mixed race people do. If Obama identifies himself as black, it is because that is how he feels, that is how he sees himself.
Who the hell cares anyway? Let’s get passed race already. They are saying that this country will be a ‘minority majority’ in the not too distant future.
Class dismissed.

I am also a VERY white woman who feels that Obama is the right choice, not because of his color at all, but because of his ideals and ideas. I have watched America become this thing that I am not proud of.
Let’s put it this way. I know everyone has come across an individual that where ever they go has a problem. Their boss is wrong, their co-workers are wrong, everybody is wrong except them of course. (you know the type, imagine say Management) They are usually a bully and a bore but can not see the problem is them. No matter where they go the same issues arise and seem to follow them when in fact the problem IS them. I feel America has become that person. The rest of the world and some Americans see it. Our country’s reputation is so sullied by the last 8 years that it will take someone extraordinary to repair it. We need to redeem the thing that is America.
I was watching a PBS show on the Apollo Space missions yesterday. The thing that really stuck with me was how the astronauts who were so close to the moon for the first time were far more in awe of their view of Earth. We are on a planet, connected to each other. We are all human whether we are black, white, yellow or brown in tone. This planet is where we all have to reside. When you get to know people you can let your innate fear of their differences go. People are just people, some are good and some are bad, in all skin tones.
I have heard a talk given by an Israeli father who’s son was killed by a sniper. He was at first consumed with hatred, then he decided to try to get to know the other side better in hopes of healing himself. He went to talk to a Palestinian father who’s son was also killed. They started talking and found they were both feeling the same pain. They have since become friends and speak publicly together trying to help change the racial hatred between the two peoples that took the lives of both of their beloved sons.
Maybe it is time to rethink our positions that have been the root cause of so much hatred against us. If there is one thing I know to be true, there are always 3 sides to every issue, his, hers and the truth. America has become to be seen as a bully through out the world we have to get along with. I think Obama can change that image.

You are the one that is stroking racial flames in this city by wording the blog the way you did. Why should it matter that black are voting early? It means nothing at this point because YOU will not know a few days before or after election day if there was truly a spike in new black voters.
It is just as likely that blacks have been told or are expecting a heavy turnout in their precincts so they are getting out to vote early. And by the end of this election cycle there may have been no significant spike in black voters. Again we don’t know.
So what is your “real” purpose for singling out the black voter over the white, hispanic, asian or other racial/ethnic voters? And your last paragraph(most of them will be voting for Obama) — again what is your purpose? Most of them voted for Bill Clinton, most of them voted for Al Gore, most of them voted for John Kerry — most of them always vote for the Democratic candidate.

What a cheap, sleazy shot. You should be ashamed. This is exactly why I spotted you as a fraud and a cheap shot artist years ago. Especially after you “spoke” to a group that included my daughter.
This is pre textual. Exactly the same techniques you use in your editorial writing. For example: “since Bush lied to us about the war then…”
That is one of your techniques and you use it very effectively. The only problem is that it is dishonest and cheap.
I had very little respect for you when I started posting on this board but I thought surely you couldn’t be such a Clymer. Maybe I could find a few things to appreciate about you.

Jay,
Are we not free to criticize bad behavior, no matter what race we are talking about? Must we be muzzled because of “politically correct” speech so that the obvious becomes the elephant in the living room? Irresponsibility is a bad trait, no matter what race you are talking about and it just becomes much worse when you are called a racist for having a justified opinion about someone else’s behavior. Especially when a lot of us responsible people are paying the bills for a lot of others who are not. The Stanford poll said a lot about how white America perceives the black community. And it was not so good across the board, Demos, Repubs and Independents. There must be something going on out there……. 150M people can’t all be wrong.

Before I go, I just wanted to introduce you to a animal rights activist, a free-thinking liberal mind that leftists hail as a brilliant mind. Feel free to check him out jay. He’s one of yours.
When it comes to today’s “feebleminded,” influential voices on the left now advocate the killing of “defectives” at the beginning of life and at the end of life. Chief among them is Peter Singer, widely hailed as the most important living philosopher and the world’s leading ethicist. Professor Singer, who teaches at Princeton, argues that unwanted or disabled babies should be killed in the name of “compassion.” He also argues that the elderly and other drags on society should be put down when their lives are no longer worth living.
Sanger and Singer! What more could a liberal hope for?
