Obama momentum building

The Gallup three-day tracking poll has Barack Obama up by eight points, 50-42, a three-point jump from Saturday. That includes just one day of post-debate polling, suggesting that Obama could move up still farther in the next couple of days.

A Gallup/USA Today poll also confirms two earlier polls reporting that Obama was perceived by voters as winning Friday night’s debate. According to Gallup, 46 percent of Americans said Obama did better, compared to 34 percent for McCain.

The Republican party is in complete disarray. It’s falling apart. Look at it. Bush has no choice but to trust Bernanke and Paulson and their $700 billion bailout but it slaps right in the face of the one core party principle that had not completely and publicly broken down — til now. Free market capitalism has been brought to its knees by the Republicans. In the last days of the Bush administration, Newt and some House Republicans are now turning on their own party in some last ditch effort to save a little face or more precisely, a few seats. McCain was a last-ditch effort on the part of the Republicans to get someone that could breathe a last breath into an already fractured grouping of misguided misfits and that has been a disaster. McCain’s mavericky addition of Palin to the ticket is nothing more than the icing on the deflated sponge cake. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that the Republican are trying their best to throw the election. Maybe they finally realized that they need some people in office that can actually clean up their mess.

But the proper response in a democratic society isn’t to scream at those who give an author a podium, to call the man names or jam a radio station’s phone lines with angry callers.

If you value free speech, the proper response is to say yes, thanks, when the radio host invites your campaign to send someone to debate the enemy on the air.

It may be trending in Obama’s direction, if things go back to the way they were last Wednesday, before McCain suspended his efforts and went to Washington, and then Obama joined him there, and the two of them joined the President in the White House, and the bickering began between Democrats and Republicans about whether McCain was helping or hurting by his presence there. Interestingly, no one suggested that Obama’s presence made a difference one way or the other. -Susan Estrich

We will look back on the failure of Congress to reform the government-sponsored enterprises at the heart of the mortgage meltdown as one of the most expensive derelictions of its duty ever. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac used their lobbying clout, political contributions and even charitable largesse to charm or bully anyone demanding reform in their lending practices.

Indeed, the White House’s list calls for GSE reform is a long one, stretching as far back as April 2001. At that time, the administration’s first budget declared that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s growing dominance of the mortgage market was “a potential problem,” because “financial trouble of a large GSE could cause strong repercussions in financial markets, affecting Federally insured entities and economic activity.”

The response? Rep. Barney Frank, who now vilifies Republican House members for questioning a policy of throwing another $700 billion on the bonfire, insisted to the New York Times during the 2003 accounting scandal: “These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”-Wall Street Journal

As Congress has debated a bailout for Wall Street, there is also an urgent need for aid to working families and for state governments struggling in this weak economy.-Philly Inquirer

Or we could start a national effort to lower energy prices by increasing domestic production, killing the ethanol monstrosity thereby turning our food back into food, immediately embark on construction of 30 or so nuclear power plants that would provide jobs for worker’s instead of the green weenie lobbyists.

But first, we would have to get rid of the democrats, wormy little socialists all, that obstruct each and every initiative that would strengthen our energy sectors and stop sending our treasures to foreign lands.

Neither candidate gained any ground. This was a safe play, opening gambit, pawn to King 4, fair shot across the bow, parry and deflect, demonstrate in your opponent’s front, feel each other out debate.

Too bad the CNN pollsters didn’t hook electrodes up to Jay Bookman to see who was winning the debate. Did anybody read his play by play? He really doesn’t understand our culture at all not to know how ridiculous he appeared with his idiotic updates.

The physical appearance factor, which favored Kennedy, and the fact that Nixon was caught glancing at his watch, suggests that Sarah palin won that debate.

Didn’t Obama sound like our president, though? McCain sounded like the old bitter cantankerosity he truly is.

Once again, though, Obama and the democratic writers dont know how to reply to “the surge”. McCain left himself wide open with, “We’re winning in Iraq”.

Oh? Win? What is the mission? What part of the mission is complete? What criteria are you citing to declare a win?

“If after five years … the CBO decides that the American taxpayer has lost money in this, then there would be a fee on financial institutions,” Pelosi said, adding that she hoped the provision could be part of a final bailout deal.-Reuters

Since the site kicked my link, I’ll have to spam.

Boiling it down to simple syrup. The sweet stuff rises to the top. The taxpayer gets gooey with the ifs and shoulds.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The proposal to bail out U.S. financial markets to the tune of up to $700 billion creates a lot of potential short-term winners, as well as some losers.

Wall Street and the banking industry are perhaps the biggest winners. Scores of banks and other financial institutions faced with going under stand to gain a lifeline that should allow them to start making loans again.

There are other winners, too, if the bailout works as intended: anyone soon trying to borrow money — for cars, student loans, even to open new credit card accounts.

Top executives at troubled financial institutions, on the other hand, are in the losing column because the proposal would limit their compensation and rules out “golden parachutes.”

Of course, these executives may take solace in knowing their jobs still exist.

Investors, including the millions of people who hold stock in their 401(k) and pension plans, should benefit.

Homeowners faced with foreclosure or those who have lost their homes get little help from the agreement. Nor will it help people whose houses are worth less than what they owe get refinancing or take out equity loans.

It would do little to halt the slide in home values that are one of the root causes of the current economic slowdown.

“It doesn’t deal with the fundamental problems that gave rise to the problem — or alleviate the credit crisis,” said Peter Morici, an economist and business professor at the University of Maryland

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke are potential winners.

In just a few months, they have remade Wall Street. If the plan helps to get the economy moving again, they may be remembered for having kept the financial crisis from spreading throughout the economy.

Bartlett said the plan is flawed, yet the alternative of doing nothing could be catastrophic.

After the heavy dose of new regulation in the agreement, New York will have a hard time claiming it is the center of the financial universe. That title may have shifted to Washington.

And they’ve done such a good job obscuring what should have been made obvious.

It looks like we, the taxpayers, should consider ourselves fortunate if we can be scraped from the pot.

Heck! I’m feeling the brittle.

At least Bookman isn’t trying to explain how this crisis became so unmanageable. I’ve yet to hear more than a third grade level narrative about the who what when and where. Of course that’s because anyone who was involved and could explain it is taking the fifth.

A trillion dollars, eh? The bailout is a trill. Iraq’s a trill. With a trill here, and a trill there, pretty soon you’re talkin’

A. Serious money.

B. A cuckoo clock

C. A marital aid

D. The terrorists win

E All of the above.

Question number 2: How many Gods do you see in your life?

The Black Knight knelt before the SnowWitch and pleaded for her support on the bailout.

The SnowWitch spat as she barely acknowleged his chivalrous stoop. As she stepped past the supplicant, she paused, and spat again, this time striking the Black Knight squarely in his left eye as he steeled his gaze. He cried out and fell backwards. His aides rushed to prevent his collapse, for he was in full armor, but they were late, and with a clang he struck the ground. The SnowWitch was on him in a second, her 6 inch hair pin at the ready, poised directly beneath the exposes underarm of the helpless knight. She jabbed quickly, and pierced the Knight’s skin where he applied his Right Guard everyday. He yelped meekly. “You’re going down on Saturday. Believe it.” The SnowWitch was so clever with her hairpin that nobody noticed her felony.

“He’s okay,” exclaimed the SnowWitch as she offered her own hand to help the Black Knight onto his feet. She disengaged as his entourage finally massed together and hoisted the knight upwards.

Saturday was the night for the nest debate. And now the Black Knight had one less useful arm.

1) Most mature adults would let the American people research the facts and make their own decisions on matters such as these, but the Pompous Little Aristocrat feels as though you are too stupid to figure this out on your own, apparently.

2) Should this whole enterprise fail, guess who just freed McBushie from any blame, will not the words of this moron be given their own spotlight and marquee?

3) The American public is about, oh, 90% against this bailout, they look upon it as a handout to Wall Street, so of course, send your little wind up socialist out to claim all the credit for it, if I were you, I’d have him hand out blank checks the the capitalists live on TV.

Taxpayer: You know, I sense a slight case of dementia in your last little rant, most afflicted like you only remember bits and pieces of highly traumatic episodes that had a major effect on them.

I sincerely apologize if I frightened you earlier with my wit and sarcasm and I truly hope that you don’t dwell over it too much longer.

These things never turn out well.

Get well soon, dude.

Taxpayer, what are you b-b-baaaaaing about?

Gramm-Leach-Bliley was essential to our ability to compete. The banks were finding ways to circumvent the restrictions anyway. We needed the freedoms to compete with European banks who had already granted their banks the freedom to offer customers insurance, investment or commercial banking services.

Heck, if it was such bad legislation, then why did Joe Biden vote for it? Why did Larry Summers (OBlahMa adviser) support it? along with Robert Rubin (another OBlahMa adviser)? He supported it too. Why in a democrat’s name did Bill Clinton sign it?

Right back-at-cha Dolly girl.

Now I’ve gotta get some work done before having to go to work tomorrow. I’ll be working hard to b-b-bail your sheepish blogging behind out. The credit will be flowing freely so liberals, like you can do what they do……..and do…….and do.

They blog for government benefits.

No need to feel guilty ‘cause I LOVE MY JOB.

Andy, you could not offer a sincere apology for your rantings because that would require a change in your basic character and belief system and that is well beyond your mental capacity. So, I’ll just look forward to more of your typical outlays of cut and paste dribble — complete with your signature “urinal” rantings — tomorrow to scroll past. Further, if you wish to receive effective treatment yourself, feel free to seek out your local veterinarian although given your advanced stage of illness I don’t have high expectations and you shouldn’t either. So, enjoy your end of times with your Sarah doll, little person.

Good night and don’t forget that night light.

The truth is that many of these Republican politicians have sold a bill of goods to their constituency and now they can’t live up to it. The [Republican] Bush administration has already succumbed to the bailout as the only hope for saving our country from a severe recession or likely worse scenario. This splinter group of house Republicans along with Newt and a few others are making waves in an attempt to save face but only the most hard-core extremist members of the Republican base are even willing to hear it any more.

Taxpayer: It is obvious that you are obsessed with me, why deny it?

You “scroll past,” yeah, sure thing, funny how you remember every single post that I have made the last few years and can recite them word for word every time I trick you into doing it.

You know what I am talking about and I would really like to play along with your denial charade, but then I would feel guilty for needlessly delaying your recovery.

Do make an attempt though, you will be enormously grateful to me, I can only imagine the suffering you must endure.

Andy, your memory has really burned out hasn’t it. Look back through the posts, little person, and see first-hand where the obsession lies — your lap, little person of little mental capacity. So why don’t you go back to your Sarah doll, obsessed one. What will you try next, Andy. Amuse me, won’t you. Will you resort to falsely calling me a liar again (by the way, that actually makes you the liar) or continue with your more common approach. You are so predictable, given your consistent “methodology” so change it up a little bit for me, obsessed one.

P.S. You might try looking at your post that I’ve pasted below for this particular thread just in case you are having difficulty figuring out where you started with the obsessive behavior this time, Andy:

Well, I stopped by to post a goodnight endearment and …lo and behold…..AmVet has MISQUOTED ME.

I did NOT say he looked like a Neanderthal, i.e. flat head, low brow and no chin. I DON’T KNOW WHAT AMVET LOOKS LIKE. That is why I asked What do you look like, AmVet?

Now, I admit, I HAD IMAGINED the looks of AmVet. Something like: a cone head, hairy nose and two protruding incissors. But that was a mere guess. He MAY not be that good looking.

So..with that correction I say…..

While I will vote FOR Obama (I will never again vote FOR a Rethuglicon), he was not impressive during the debate. He was so busy choosing his words carefully that he looked hesitant and unsure. Not qualities you want in a President. Obama also let McCain repeat lies that the Rethuglicons have made the centerpiece of their campaign (they have nothing else). Again, Obama should have been more firm instead of just moving on to the next topic. Obama needs to hit the Rethuglicons head on with these lies they keep repeating. There are too many people already that believe Obama is some closet Muslim terrorist supporter.

Instead of writing ‘Obama gaining momentum’ write the truth…which is the media and extremist liberals are pushing him forward in the polls by using the Saul Alinsky rules of ‘war’. And this is a war to the extremist liberals. Although they like to say they are compassionate, inclusive, caring and accepting of all lifestyles and ideas they in reality are liars…they will only accept those who believe the same as they do. And Obama is just a means to an end for them, so they wage war against Sarah Palin’s minor chilcren using the 20 yr old brainwashed Kernell’s son to do their bidding, they lie, insinuate and dance around but never answer any questions posed to them. And unfortunately the extremist liberals have a choke hold on the media and control the wire services…just ask why the AP pulls stories like the one about the hacker and Palin’s emails or the one about Sandy Burger stuffing secret documents down his shorts. The bias of the extremist liberals and the measures to which they will win is incredible and dishonest and that is how Obama is gaining momentum…by lies, deceit, deflection and insinuations.

I want nothing to do with them and I sure won’t be voting for any of them. OBAMA TRUTH SQUAD

This is the latest attempt of the Obama campaign to target ads that Obama, well, doesn’t like. The Obama campaign is asking law enforcement in Missouri to target anyone who “lies or runs a misleading TV ad” during the campaign. Prosecutors and sheriffs, at the request of the Obama campaign, are jumping on board to “keep the truth” and remind people that Obama is a Christian who wants to cut taxes for everyone making under $250,000 a year. But they will also “respond” to any statements that violate Missouri ethics laws.

Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has responded to Barack Obama’s “abusive use of Missouri law enforcement.” Here’s a quote from the governor:

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.”

Appealing to the Justice Department? Sending threatening letters to station managers who air controversial ads? And now getting law enforcement to “respond” to statements on behalf of the campaign. Just stop and think for a moment what things will be like when this menace occupies the White House.

Yes, I thought this would be interesting to all you Obama supporters who thinks he follows the constitution. Freedom of speech?
