McCain still peddles Palin mythology
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Appearing on “The View” on Friday, Sen. John McCain claimed that Sarah Palin had not sought federal earmarks as governor of Alaska.
Here is the official list of federal earmarks requested by Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska for the 2009 budget year, on Palin’s letterhead as governor.
Palin’s defenders point out that her 2009 request was considerably lower than that of the previous year. Nonetheless, it totals almost $200 million, which is more than any other state in the country on a per capita basis.
Furthermore, in the current fiscal year Congress approved almost $15 billion in earmarks. That is down considerably from the peak of $27 billion in 2005, when Republicans controlled both houses of Congress.
So if Sarah Palin is a small-government anti-earmark reformer, so too is the Democratic-controlled Congress under Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
Oh, and for those who ask, I’ll stop writing about it when they stop lying about it. Why?
Because their strategy is to keep restating these lies until people stop bothering to complain about it. And at that point, the lie will become accepted as the truth.
Except it’s not the truth. And the truth matters.
UPDATE: The link above is to a PDF file. It opens for me in Safari, but not in Firefox, so I’ll just post it here for those who want access to it:

I think it is obvious at this point that if you are a Republican and you feel that “Reasonable Doubt” hasn’t been proven in the case of Sara Palin—-with all that has been bi-partisan FACTCHECKED about her, then what is the point of discussing it with you?
I am a Democrat but if this was Obama that kept saying something happened one way when it clearly happened another…and continues to say it like it is pure, undebatable fact, I would definitely say “Obama, what are you doing??? What are you talking about”.
On The View this morning…..WHAT IS MCCAIN TALKING ABOUT????
I think he is talking to those people that vote by what they hear and not from what they are too lazy to research and accept.

Given the fact that so many Bushies still believe the lies that led us into Iraq, are you really surpised that McCain’s still trying to sell Sister Sarah as a tight fisted fiscal conservative? That kind of republican died out a long time ago. But that’s their story, and obviously they’re sticking to it.

When the road gets rough, get back in the rut. Thus driveth Bookman.
I don’t watch every political program looking for Sarah “errors” to flaunt. I don’t even do it for Obama as he peddles his mythology that Harvard is heaven and he is experienced as Father Time.
Why did McCain say what he did? I don’t know except he has promised “No earmarks when I am President” and never got any for Arizona. Maybe he made a mistake. I did not see the show. Maybe Obama made a mistake going to a racist church for twenty years? I don’t know.
But…if you are hunting for a president or VP that never made a mistake, you are going to be a long time looking.

As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has proposed paying a $150 bounty for the foreleg of each dead wolf. The aerial hunting program she champions has already killed nearly 800 wolves. She’s opposed efforts to save America’s polar bears from extinction. She’s fought against efforts to save some of the world’s most endangered beluga whales

Jay,
I just read a three page story about today’s episode of The View, that I can’t seem to link to, but it never mentions earmarks at all. It’s pretty hard to believe he told a demonstrably false and outright lie on national television and ABC doesn’t even mention it.
I got to the story by going to ABC’s website, clicking on daytime television and then The View. It’s give you a blurb about the show with a link to read more. The read more link takes you to the 3 page story. It seems pretty comprehensive too.
I know there’s an AP story that says essentially what you did, but there’s also a CBS story and it doesn’t mention the earmark bit either.
Do you have a clip or an actual quote? Please don’t make me go watch the episode.

All of this rhetoric is useless. The Annointed One cannot win in Nov. The polls released today place the race as even with a bump for McCain in Ohio, Iowa, Penn and Va. These are the states that he needs to win. Even MI with it’s 17 electoral votes is swinging for McCain. If McCain wins any of these states, it is over. The Annointed One needs 18 more electoral votes than Kerry got in 04 and he will struggle to match what Kerry did. The “I will never vote for a black candidate” crowd and the ladies that don’t want a female dissed will make the difference. Even the Demos said in exit polls in the primaries that they would not vote for a black candidate in 10-12% of the interviews. And that is not including the ones that won’t admit that fact until the privacy of the voting booth. The fat lady is tuning up.

That’s nickle and dime stuff compared to Obama earmarks Jay, and you know it. Add the fact that she runs an entire state versus an entire community, or whatever the hell Obama runs (if anything), it becomes more apparent that his billion dollar plus earmarks for his personal dispensary sort of shatters the bell curve, does it not?
You really don’t want to get into this issue of what Obama has earmarked (money for the hospital where his wife works, for instance) as a Senator v. Palin as Governor.

Speaking of lies:
This year, as the Senate funding request deadline approaches and the final primaries of the Democratic nomination process draw near, Obama’s staff told CNN the junior senator from Illinois will request no earmarks for fiscal year 2009.
Uh-huh:
Senate energy bill contains goodies for Illinois
The actual headline from Oblahma’s website^^, haha.
Goodies.
The Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved an energy bill that would dramatically increase the use of ethanol, providing Illinois farmers a steady market for corn and bolstering the growing ethanol industry in the state.
The bill contains a provision authored by Obama that would provide $40 million for research into combined electric and E85 flexible fuel vehicles that have the potential to drive 500 miles per gallon of gasoline used.
The bill also contains $85 million total for Southern Illinois University, Purdue University and the University of Kentucky for research and testing on ways to turn Illinois basin coal into transportation fuels.
See, Jay, I provide proof.

“That’s nickle and dime stuff compared to Obama earmarks Jay, and you know it. “ —- No, I bet he knows the facts. That Obama represents a State with 20 times* the population of Alaska, and that Palin has requested more earmark dollars per capita for Alaska than any other **5 states put together receive. And you can talk about the costs of supporting isolated communities all you like, Alaska has massive oil revenues. THEY CAN AFFORD IT THEMSELVES. But that doesn’t stop them from funneling more money per person out of the federal government than any other state in the union anyway. Palin also hired a federal lobbyist to go grab 27 million in earmarks for Wasilla when she was mayor. 27 million. For a town of 6000 people. And she STILL put the town 20 million dollars in debt!
Trying to sell us this “she’s a fiscal conservative reformer” line of bull is insulting out intelligence. McCain has personally called her out at least three times over the years for being part of the problem and now all of a sudden when he needs the female vote thanks to his intent to overturn Roe v Wade she’s the best reforming mavericky VP candidate in the history of the universe…and just nevermind that she ALSO wants to overturn Roe V Wade and on top of that thinks abortion should be outlawed even in cases of rape and incest, she has ovaries so women will vote for her regardless of her extreme positions. Because they’re just that dense right? That’s obviously what McCain thinks.

Mr. Bookman,
I find what is happening to be odd more than anything. Is there a possibility that John McCain is having mental difficulties associated with his age? I know his father was an Admiral, but do not know how he died or if there were any deteriorating cognitive factors at the time that might suggest a hereditary link to his son. While I voted for Senator McCain in the 2000 primary, I find no similarity between that man and the one I see now. But what concerns me the most is that his handlers are perhaps taking advantage of his cognitive problems for some personal quest I have yet to figure out. I would not put that past those who apparently pull the GOP strings.

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. I have done carrier landings. What does that have to do with running a country?
Mastering a single complex task is done by many people in this country. Race car drivers not only deal with quick reflexes and decisions, but working with the engineers and technicians to make minor changes to the cars during the race. Does this make them qualified to to run the country?
How about your average heart surgeon?
I’m just curious what carrier ops has to do with running the country? It doesn’t even give him knowledge of ground force operations. Much less how an overall military force is used in conjunction with a political force to achieve US objectives.
But I guess being able to say ‘carrier landings’ is a nice slogan to say when nothing else is available.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congress is poised to give final approval to a $286.5 billion, five-year transportation program this week, including more than $1 billion a year for Illinois highway and bridge projects.
“This bill will provide much-needed and long-overdue investments in transportation in Illinois,” said Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who was a member of the House-Senate conference committee that worked out the compromise.

I have no problem with health care for the losers in the world, as long as the people who use have to pay for it. lucky me I am in the 5% who get a tax hike. Take a look at what happens when folks like him (oboma) get in office, Clayton county county ga. school board? City of atl? Just what we need, a Churches fried chicken in the basement of the white house and check cashing place on the corner. He has also requested that he gets paid every friday “cause, that every other week sheet ain’t woof a damn”

Has anyone heard Limbaugh’s parody movie promo that he did in the first segment today? It was in response to the absurd lib talking points that Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.
He calls it the The Biggest Story Ever Told and has Governor Pontius Palin come out saying I love my country which is followed by Obama saying why do thou persecute me.
I almost fell over laughing.

I am just going to wait and watch Jay spew that last little puff of smoke from his stack before going silent like a virus or rather “swine flue”.
McCain will win the State here by a land slide….Especially with all the Hillary voters switching sides every day. Nothing you can do about it…Nothing.
You can moan, whine, b***; hold your breath till you turns blue…Obama and Biden will not carry any state below Pennsylvania. When NY Hillary votes go to McCain then that will be the knock out punch….By RW-(the original)

Does anyone not get the major difference of a federally elected representative requesting earmarks vs a state or local person requesting them trying to get their share of the federal pie for their state? It is for senators and congressmen to request and either approve or stop earmarks. All state officials do is attempt to get their share. What needs to happen is the federal government needs to be a lot smaller and it needs to stop stealing our money so it can hand out goodies to buy votes. If Obama or McCain asks for funding of local programs, then they should be help accountable to answering to why it is okay, but to ask Palin to justify requesting money for her state, regardless of the ridiculous nature o fit, is BS. She is just doing what everyone else does.

I’m Scotch Irish and German…so what? I was born and raised here. What’s wrong with having ancestors who were Arab? We aren’t in a war with Arabian ancestors.
Why can’t we ease up a little on the hatred of other people, especially the Arabs. All they have is oil and sand…..a lot more sand than oil, by the way. Once we move away from oil dependency they will go back to fighting each other over ancient boundaries that exist mostly in their minds.

Sarah Palin is stupid and McCain is desperate.
Palin is against sex education (abstinence yada yada yada), how did that work out for her daughter? Oh, that’s right, she’s knocked up and due to give birth in a few months. Great life plan.
And you know what? If a girl gets pregnant as a result of rape, tough luck, no abortion, somehow it’s the girl’s problem and she’s supposed to carry the child. Now that’s cruel and backwards and idiotic.
I don’t begrudge anyone the right to act like a moron in the public eye, I enjoy making fun, but Sarah Palin shouldn’t be allowed to become VP and heaven help us if McCain kicks the can.
Worse, Palin’s son-in-law to be (Levi Johnston) doesn’t want children, at least that’s what he said in his My Space profile.
So let’s review: Palin’s daughter is pregnant by a kid who doesn’t want kids, but they’re getting married so it’s all right I suppose. WHAT? Palin’s daughter had unprotected sex with a guy who doesn’t want children and a marriage certificate is supposed to make it all right?! Stupidity clearly runs in that family. And then you have Sarah saying it’s immoral to give teens condoms…
Did I mention that Palin is stupid? And McCain was desperate for some young looking female thing, so he picked her despite the obvious problems. Now McCain having had cancer 5 times and being 72, he knows he’s on borrowed time. He doesn’t care. He just wants to get elected. And if we’re stuck with someone even stupider than W. for a President, too bad, so sad.
So clearly McCain isn’t quite bright either.

I’m assuming that this blog has played out, the liberals have been deposed and now would be a good time for them if we changed the subject:
IVC is more than a group of Republican candidates who served in Iraq, and we are here for something other than our respective Congressional races. We want to be a voice for thousands of U.S. military veterans, their families, and hardworking patriotic Americans who are tired of seeing veterans mistreated and their mission slandered.
When I brought the members of IVC together, I wanted America to have a reliable, unified voice from twelve candidates who are uniquely positioned to offer a knowledgeable, credible rebuttal to the Democrats, the mainstream media, and the constant message of defeatism and mistreatment of our troops. That’s what we’re doing every day, and we are counting on and appreciate your support.

Vets for Obama is a group of combat and non-combat, currently and formerly serving service men and women who support Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. We believe that Barack Obama is the right choice for us — for the soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen and for all of those from all walks of life — who are serving or have served their country. Our ranks include veterans of all recent wars, including those who are currently serving their nation in Iraq and Afghanistan or elsewhere here in the United States and around the world. All branches of the services are represented in Vets for Obama: the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines, the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard, as well as those widows and the children of those who have served and paid the last full measure of devotion to their nation. This is a completely voluntary and independent effort, and is not an official part of the Obama for President campaign.

Look at character. This is a man that is associated with several extremist. And the news media is having a fit because Sara made a choice, her choice, to not abort her son. Where are the womens groups who scream and fight for choice, what they really mean is only if your choice is alligned with theirs.
The news media is jumping all over a possible investigation regarding Palins involvement in the handling of a bad cop. To ghost rider: As a Mud-Marine I know the A-4 was a close air support aircraft. It probably helped save my life more than once. However, for your edification, following is some information regarding its fighter role.
On 1 May 1967, an A-4C Skyhawk piloted by LCdr. Theodore R. Swartz of VA-76 aboard the carrier USS Bon Homme Richard, shot down a Soviet-built MiG-17 with an unguided Zuni rocket in the Skyhawk’s only air-to-air victory of the Vietnam war.[5]
From 1956 Navy Skyhawks were the first aircraft to deploy outside of the US armed with the AIM-9 Sidewinder.[6][7] On strike missions, which was the Skyhawk’s normal role, the air-to-air armament was for self defensive purposes.
In the early-to-mid 1960s, standard US Navy A-4B Skyhawk squadrons were tasked to provide daytime fighter protection for ASW aircraft operating from some Essex class US anti-submarine warfare carriers, these aircraft retained their ground and sea attack capabilities. The A-4B model did not even have an air-to-air radar and required visual identification of targets and guidance from either ships in the fleet or an airborne E-1 Tracer AEW aircraft. Lightweight and safer to land on smaller decks, Skyhawks would later also play a similar role flying from Australian, Argentinean, and Brazilian upgraded World War II surplus light ASW carriers, which were also unable to operate most large modern fighters.”

One says CHANGE…CHANGE ! But he has the same old tax and spend policies of the dems, not one new idea! Granted he has come up with different things to spend my money on, but no new ideas. Then the topping on the cake is he goes out and gets a guy who has been in D.C. for 30 years. Lots of change there. Same ole’ same ole’. Then we have John McCain…good guy, but damn he’s old. the job makes a young man old in a hurry. He is actually talking about real change. Less govt. etc. But do you really think it would happen? Einstein
“His faith in determinism and causality reflected that of his favorite religious philosopher, Baruch Spinoza ….. they both believed that a divine design was reflected in the elegant laws that governed the way the universe worked. “When I am judging a theory,” he told his friend Banesh Hoffmann, “I ask myself whether, if I were God, I would have arranged the world in such a way.”
When he posed that question, there was one possibility that he simply could not believe: that the good Lord would have created beautiful and subtle rules that determined “most” of what happened in the universe, while leaving a few things completely to chance. It felt wrong. “If the Lord had wanted to do that, he would have done it thoroughly, and not kept to a pattern …. He would have gone the whole hog. In that case, we wouldn’t have to look for laws at all.”

There was no Democratic Convention bump. Obama voters are set. There are no more in the weeds. They will not convince one more person to vote Democrat. They decided back in March. WISE UP!!
The Republican bump came from people that have never like McCain from the start. He is the weakest Republican candidate since Dole. However, Palin just got him anywhere from 4 to 12 miliion votes.

Sir: A couple of points for you to consider ……….
1) Palin I assume believes in creationism but which kind as there are many beliefs on this subject?
2) I believe in creationism in that God created the universe billions of years ago and when He was ready He also placed life on the earth millions of years ago and when He was ready again He added mankind.
Now, you can call me Nut also if you like but I do have a BBA in Accounting from a major university and I have numerous books written by scientists of all flavors who believe as I do and for 27 years I was authorized to stand next to the President of the United States with a fully loaded weapon.
So at least I am not your average nut ……… :o)
3) Finally, does it bother you that Obama (as a Christian) believes that Jesus was God in the flesh, that He was born of a virgin, that He was killed and rose from the dead after three whole days, that He ascended bodily into Heaven and that He is returning someday as He said? Wow - that’s pretty weird and far out !

To have faith to explain that which science cannot know (original “cause”)is one thing. To believe the Earth is 6,000 years old, which flies in the face of everything science knows is quite another.

Those of us in the military always referred to the 10% who never quite got with the program. You know what I mean.
For example, the ones who had their left hand dipped in yellow paint so they could tell their left from their right …… or the ones who put their helmet on backwards the first time.

Corporal,
27 years with the authority to stand next to POTUS with a fully loaded weapon? Well if Palin got the job I would want you back in the White House so that maybe somebody could put a hitch in her giddy-up if she goes to pushing the red button because “Jesus told me to bring The Rapture.”
Now if it comes to pass she’s not one of those “the Earth is 6,000 years old” loonies, then I’ll just consider her woefully unqualified, as opposed to a clear and present danger.
And if I had to bet, I’d bet the “elitist” Obama, believes in the virgin birth as allegory, not actual fact. Unfortunately, given the hysteria around religion in this county, he probably can’t admit it.

Corporal,
If Obama believed in the virgin birth and the rest as literal truth yeah, I’d kind of be disappointed. But nowhere near as worried as someone who believes the whole kit and kaboddle including the 6,000 year old Earth.
1) It flies in the face of all scientific understanding and 2) those who believe it usually believe in The Rapture, and with all that’s happening in the Middle East, it’s not completely impossible, that a President with a “stict creationist/literal interpretation” of the Bible just might be tempted to help Armageddon along.
Did you ever think of what you might do if POTUS lost his mind and ordered World War III, and you were standing next to him with a loaded weapon? (Don’t anwser it, if answering it means that then you’d have to kill me LOL)

1) Actually, a President who believes in the Rapture (as I do) would probably be less likely to do something like that as he believes it is God who is “in control” and Who will bring about Armageddon in His timing.
A “non-believing” President might “over-react” (as Kennedy almost did) in a similar situation.
Something to think about ………… :o)
2) In answer to your question, being around politicians in general made me wonder if “I” was the one losing my mind ……..
P.S. You may be surprised what Obama actually believes. Better research it and check it out before you vote just so you will know ………..

So Obama’s the man….Huh! Suppose Obama was a “White guy”… Let’s see, the white guy attends a white church where hatred is spewed forth from the pulpit each Sunday (NAACP would be on the front steps); the white guy associates with white radicals for some 20 years; the white guy is a radical community organizer (not a job but just something to do because he has no worthwhile job); gets elected to Senate(never would happen) and now 143 days into his Senator’s job is now the nominee of the Democrat party for President of US ( I know koolaid drinkers have a tough time being logical but really….)
We would never have heard Obama’s name ever mentioned in any context if he were a White guy with his credentials. Of course he would not be admitted to Harvard because he is white. That’s a given.

Your comment about Obama identifying himself as African-American really shows your ignorance when it comes to those who are bi-racial.
Self-identity comes from within. Those who are multi-racial use their own self-image and experiences to define who they are and which race they most closely associate with.
Welcome to our world. You cannot pin a ‘label’ you feel I should adhere to based on what you think you know about my background….Only I can do that.
My bi-racial children have chosen their own identity, and it has nothing to do with what they look like, or what percentage of which race they are-they chose their identity based on how they felt….

Remember the other day when Bookman was huffing and puffing about Palin’s response to the Bush Doctrine questio?. Looks like the Washington Post news team disagrees with his partisan knee-jerk reaction:
“Many Versions of ‘Bush Doctrine’ Palin’s Confusion in Interview Understandable, Experts Say”
*Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin seemed puzzled Thursday when ABC News anchor Charles Gibson asked her whether she agrees with the “Bush doctrine.”
“In what respect, Charlie?” she replied.
Intentionally or not, the Republican vice presidential nominee was on to something. After a brief exchange, Gibson explained that he was referring to the idea — enshrined in a September 2002 White House strategy document — that the United States may act militarily to counter a perceived threat emerging in another country. But that is just one version of a purported Bush doctrine advanced over the past eight years.”*
LOL. That’s what I said the other day. Maybe I should get Bookman’s job.

L-o-l-a - making life easier for rapists by making it harder for their victims…
Despite denials by the Palin campaign, new evidence proves that as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin had a direct hand in imposing fees to pay for post-sexual assault medical exams conducted by the city to gather evidence.
Palin’s role is now confirmed by Wasilla City budget documents available online.
Under Sarah Palin’s administration, Wasilla cut funds that had previously paid for the medical exams and began charging victims or their health insurers the $500 to $1200 fees. …Palin, as mayor, fired police chief Irl Stambaugh and replaced him with Charlie Fannon, who with Palin’s knowledge, slashed the budget for the exams and began charging the city’s victims of sexual assault. The city budget documents demonstrate Palin read and signed off on the new budget. A year later, alarmed Alaska lawmakers passed legislation outlawing the practice.

Objective, nonpartisan organizations such as FactCheck.org have documented the half-truths of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s opposition to congressional earmarks such as the “bridge to nowhere.” The image of Palin as a reformer is even more tarnished by her role as an enabler in Alaska’s own version of pork barrel spending. It’s called the capital budget, an annual exercise in spending largess where members of the state legislature assume the roles of Congress in earmarking taxpayer dollars for pet projects in their districts with a wink and a nod from every governor since the Alaska oil boom, including Sarah Palin. Flush with oil revenues, the Alaska capital budget since Palin was elected governor has totaled a whopping 4.8 billion, $1.8 billion in 2007 and $3 billion in 2008. Palin used her line item veto power to trim the pork by less than 10 percent. Alaska’s founding fathers intended the capital budget to fund needed infrastructure projects in Alaska as opposed to the operating budget which finances the day to day work of state government. But since the trans-Alaska oil pipeline came online and the state started reaping the benefits of oil tax revenues, the capital budget has become a vehicle for legislators to earmark money for all kinds of pet projects for their constituents. In 2007 Palin promised to control the legislature’s spending excesses with some “adult supervision” through her veto pen. But in 2008, she led the frenzy with a plan to give every Alaskan a $1,200 energy debit card, an electricity subsidies and a holiday on the state’s 8-cent-a-gallon gas tax. Projects that survived Palin’s paltry vetoes included $2 million for a conference to debunk global warming as the cause of polar bear decline. So, too was $25 million for a wind farm that she vetoed the previous year. Palin also left in $15 million each for a UAA sports arena and a questionable port of Anchorage expansion. In her interview on ABC news, Palin, confronted with the tens of millions that Alaska receives in Congressional earmarks other than the bridge to nowhere, she said her objection wsas earmarks were developed in secret, implying that wasteful spending was not the issue. Anybody who knows the Alaska legislature will attest to the fact that the capital budget is not a paragon of openness and sunshine. It’s largely developed in the dark by the chairs of the House and Senate finance committees based on behind the scenes negotiations with members. The waste is self evident.

The only way I see B. Hussain Obama winning in november is for Biden to step aside and give way to Hilary. If that happens I plan to retire to Venezuela. If I have to live in a socialist country it may as well be one where I’ll be able to afford gasoline.

You libs can rant and rave all day about Palin and how much you can’t stand her but it’s just empty rhetoric. The Annointed One has to win all the states that Kerry won (producing 252 electoral votes) plus 24 more to reach Bush’s 2004 total. Mr. Wonderful will need at least VA, Iowa, Ohio or Penn to win. MI is leaning toward McCain or is too close to call with 17 electoral votes. If MI or any of the above goes to the GOP it is all over. Add the pis**d off Hillaryites, women who just want a female, the “I just couldn’t vote for a black president” crowd and Obama is toast. The fat lady is tuning up and getting louder as we speak.

Maybe Michael Moore would be a better choice or maybe Spike Lee. Both seem to be upstanding patriots who can get along with people and understand how important it is to be an American. Oh, and let’s not forget your standard bearer, Slick Willy, the main reason why you are not going to win this year. Ego as big as Texas but it doesn’t win elections. The Hilldabeast made a bad move when she didn’t dump him and run on her own. Another bad decision. You guys are full of them. I listened to the ABC Palin interview. She is a liar. Charles Gibson asked her directly about the earmark stuff, and she lied and lied some more.
It was clear to me that she understands the rules of debate. The primary rule is to control the conversation, which she did extremely well. No matter what she was asked, she redirected the discussion to benefit her.
Unless the media call her out, and her running mate, Daddy McLiar, they will continue to look you in face and lie. And then lie some more.

Hey BHO fans, I keep hearing the “Bush Lied” every freaking day. Problem is, what did he lie about? I have not heard one media outlet quote one word of a lie from him, I just hear “Bush Lied Bush Lied” About what? WMD’s? I heard Hillery,Clinton,Kennedy, Pelosi, all the commies say the same things leading up to the war in Iraq? They were all for it, then the warm and fuzzy feeling came off, kinda like a new car. It smells good and the first few payments aren’t so bad but after 6 months, it’s not new and you think “what did I do?” Well responsible people pay it off, Dems think “this don’t feel good no more, I’ll make somebody else pay.” Then they say the guy at the dealership lied! Hey ghost rider “sir”
A couple of points:
1) You started all this last night.
Instead of just debating Obama’s snide remark about McCain’s internet skills vs. his carrier training you decided to be a typical officer jerk about the mission of the A-4.
2) Maybe you missed my reply to your about the dual mission of the A-4 or are too embarrassed to mention it again but just in case here it is:
To ghost rider: As a Mud-Marine I know the A-4 was a close air support aircraft. It probably helped save my life more than once. However, for your edification, following is some information regarding its fighter role.
On 1 May 1967, an A-4C Skyhawk piloted by LCdr. Theodore R. Swartz of VA-76 aboard the carrier USS Bon Homme Richard, shot down a Soviet-built MiG-17 with an unguided Zuni ……. From 1956 Navy Skyhawks were the first aircraft to deploy outside of the US armed with the AIM-9 Sidewinder …… In the early-to-mid 1960s, standard US Navy A-4B Skyhawk squadrons were tasked to provide daytime fighter protection for ASW aircraft operating from some Essex class US anti-submarine warfare carriers …… Lightweight and safer to land on smaller decks, Skyhawks would later also play a similar role flying from Australian, Argentinean, and Brazilian upgraded World War II surplus light ASW carriers, which were also unable to operate most large modern fighters.”
Sorry I had to embarrass you - sir !
3) Again, I thank you for your service ….. but we know who does the real work - don’t we “sir”.

If landing a carrier plane 40 plus years ago builds the character of a man - what does leaving your disabled wife for a younger woman less than 40 years ago do?
This is not Sister Palin’s race - she is the lipstick Sen. McCain chose to disguise his failed policies for the future of this County and it is really disheartening to realize the American people may just let him get away with it.

And he is a uniter, he spent money for a drug plan that the dems wanted but only 2% of retired people wanted. He spends like a democrat. why don’t ya’ll love him? Some of you liberals who are whining about Palin might be able to explain how your affirmative action candidate looked when he made the following remarks. ‘My muslim faith…” “I’ve campaigned in 57 states” “I’ll call the Joint Chiefs of Staff in and tell them to get out of Iraq” The first is (perhaps) a gaffe. The third is an illustration that he doesn’t know much about the military. The Joint Chiefs are not operational commanders and are not the ones who command troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. The CENTCOM commader does. So much for the messiah’s great grasp of things Presidential. He is an empty suit, and there is no escaping that fact. Somehow, with the urgency of Tucker and Bookman’s and little hate pieces, I think you know it.

You sure sound testy, whoa, just a minute there.
Corporal, the problem is I keep finding these facts about McCain not being around to vote on important bills benefiting our military and veterans. When he did happen to be in town, he voted “Nay”. That means NO. So, I have been left to surmise that McCain doesn’t support our military and our veterans.
You see, McCain wants all these folks to go fight but : A. once they’re doing their job, and doing a great job, might I add, he doesn’t want to give them the time of day, that expression means, he doesn’t care about them any longer.
Now, we go on to B: or wait a second, am I going too fast for you, I hope not, anyway here we go with: B: you’re keeping up with me, aren’t you Corporal? Once they get home, if they are fortunate enough to get home, they may as well drop off the face of the earth, because McCain has no use for them any longer. That expression means, he doesn’t give a damn about them.

You continue to focus on a minor point. From the beginning of her career, Palin successfully challenged the Good Old Boy Network or her own Party. 85% of Alaska’s tax revenue comes from oil. The oil companies own the state. Politicians get lavish gifts while in office, and well-paid sinecures after they leave office. Palin ran against that, and governed against it.
U. S. Senator Jim Demint (R- SC) writes in the Wall Street Journal:
Begin Quote:
Mrs. Palin used her veto pen to slash more local projects than any other governor in the state’s history. She cut nearly 10% of Alaska’s budget this year, saving state residents $268 million. This included vetoing a $30,000 van for Campfire USA and $200,000 for a tennis court irrigation system. She succinctly justified these cuts by saying they were “not a state responsibility.”
Meanwhile in Washington, Mr. Obama voted for numerous wasteful earmarks last year, including: $12 million for bicycle paths, $450,000 for the International Peace Museum, $500,000 for a baseball stadium and $392,000 for a visitor’s center in Louisiana.
Mrs. Palin cut Alaska’s federal earmark requests in half last year, one of the strongest moves against earmarks by any governor. It took real leadership to buck Alaska’s decades-long earmark addiction.
Mr. Obama delivered over $100 million in earmarks to Illinois last year and has requested nearly a billion dollars in pet projects since 2005. His running mate, Joe Biden, is still indulging in earmarks, securing over $90 million worth this year.
Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation’s budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions. Even the Alaska Democratic Party credits her with killing the bridge.
When the Senate had its chance to stop the Bridge to Nowhere and transfer the money to Katrina rebuilding, Messrs. Obama and Biden voted for the $223 million earmark, siding with the old boys’ club in the Senate. And to date, they still have not publicly renounced their support for the infamous earmark.
End quote from Wall Street Journal.
The liberal news media has completely lost all credibility on their coverage of Palin. Jay Bookman is perilously close to joining them. As Peggy Noonan says, the biased coverage of Palin “has reminded American voters just what it is they dislike about the left.”

I’m astonished by how low McCain has sunk. Claiming that Obama supported sex-education for kindergartens, when in reality the bill Obama supported was for a program to educate kids about avoiding sexual predators? What McCain is demonstrating is that he will use extraordinarily vicious lies to achieve his ends. He’s not the next Bush. He’s much worse. And now he’s denying that the ads are lies. I’ve never seen such low, insulting tactics.
By Jake Johnson

People are not bashing Palin. They are pointing out that she worked for the earmarks for a worthless bridge, accepted the money, and then didn’t give it back.
In addition, she attempted to ban library books, and tried to fire the librarian who refused to agree.
She supports teaching only “abstinence” in sex-education programs. Her own daughter demonstrates that this teaching does not work.
And she is clearly a cynical ploy by McCain to win over fundamentalists and NRA members who would not ordinarily vote for him. McCain sold out to win the approval and funding of Bush supporters. His campaign advisers are largely Cark Rove operators.
Can you really wonder why people see Palin as foul, and McCain as still more foul for choosing her?

All of this back and forth is irrelevant. Where in the Constitution is any of these powers given by us to the federal government? Does the Constitution state that the federal government will be in the retirement funding business, mortgage business, education, using our tax money to pay for abortions…food…phones…cable tv…the list goes on and on. So on the issue of earmarks, the real issue is, why do we allow our government to steal money from us then dole it out to the states in a vote buying scheme? If you took the time you spend listening to Bookman and others, then posting this crap on here and instead used it speaking to your representatives (without your hand out for more), would any of this be needed? If you/we continue on this path we are truly screwed as a country. Those that believe stealing money from someone who actually busts his/her butt to EARN it and give to someone just because they are too lazy or who continues to made very bad life decisions expecting us to support them are the same ones that think the president can and will actually do something to make their pathetic life “better”. Grow up, read a few non-fiction books, get out from in front of american idol and contribute…most important, educate your kids…don’t let the fox run the hen house!

From vetvoice.com
Last week’s Republican convention sure made every superficial effort to come off as pro-Troop and pro-Veteran. And, of course, the media ate it up, not challenging a single thing. But to those of us who did serve, it was offense after offense after offense. Let’s count the ways:
McCain Didn’t Mention Veterans’ Care: Maybe because it’s because he has a terrible record, but not once in John McCain’s speech did he talk about taking care of those who served their nation in the military. With exploding rates of PTSD, suicide, homelessness among veterans. With ridiculous wait times for veterans seeking care, and a VA that every major vets group says is woefully underfunded. With administrators dumping vets out of the veterans care system by diagnosing them with a lesser mental injury than they have. Not. A. Single. Word. And, with the shame of…
Walter Reed: What a slap in the face. The first photo that John McCain stood in front of was Walter Reed. Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California. Chalk it up to someone in the campaign not knowing the difference between the two, but what I find even more offensive is this: At some point John McCain asked his campaign what was going to be on the screen behind him. And someone told him the first picture would be Walter Reed Army Medical Center. John McCain didn’t object - even though he voted against closing tax loopholes to help fund military hospitals like Walter Reed. But that wasn’t the only bit of fake imagery….
“Phony Soldiers”: For the amount that Rush Limbaugh likes to rant on “phony soldiers,” there was a big silence and others from the mainstream media on the fact that the McCain campaign used stock footage of actors pretending to be soldiers in a video, intended to show how pro-military McCain is. It’s actually kind of fitting - phony soldiers to promote a phony record on military and veterans’ issues.
Speaking of phony: Remember that faux-outrage from the McCain campaign when General Wesley Clark dared to point out that being a POW isn’t a qualification for being Commander in Chief? Boy, the McCain campaign wouldn’t let up on that. Where were they when Fred Thompson said the same exact thing?
Real outrage: But, there were some things to be angry about. First, Sarah Palin repeatedly saying that her son was deploying for Iraq on September 11. First, not only is this not exactly true, but if she sincerely believed it to be true, she would be knowingly violating Operational Security (OPSEC), which says you should never tell the enemy when people and units are going to be landing in Iraq. Thankfully, Palin was fudging the truth, and not endangering the troops. So, she either knew she wasn’t telling the truth, or she thought she was and thought violating OPSEC was worth the political points. That, however, hasn’t kept the media from finding someone willing to leak all the movements of Track and his unit, and publishing them, violating OPSEC. Second, there’s the fact that right after the Republican convention, the party produced a bunch of flags that they stole from the Democratic convention in Denver, in an attempt to “prove” the Democrats were throwing out the flag. In fact, workers in Denver were collecting all the flags left at Invesco Field, to send to community events around the country, where other patriotic Americans might want to wave the flag. So, to promote a complete fabrication, Republicans stole flags that some five-year old kid might have wanted to wave on Main Street. Stay classy…
It’s things like this that caused those troops deployed to donate to Obama by a 6-1 ratio.
Though many in the media may lap up the lies, the distortions, and fake representations, troops certainly don’t. We know the difference between fantasy and reality.
And that brings me to the last point. Speaker after speaker told the convention that the “surge worked” and we were on our way to “victory.”
Except not so much. Bob Woodward, in his new book, explains what those of us in the military always knew - commanders on the ground were against the surge, and knew it would not work strategically. And, in fact, it hasn’t worked in stabilizing Iraq’s internal political problems, hasn’t aided our global strategy, or helped strengthen our military.
But, as the President explained to General Abizaid, and others, success wasn’t the point of the surge - the APPEARANCE of success was the purpose. Quoting Woodward’s finding, “A surge would “also help here at home, since for many the measure of success is reduction in violence,” Bush said [to Abizaid].”
In short, Bush knew that since less than one-percent of America had served in the wars, and most commentators were ignorant about what constitutes true military and strategic success, a reduction of violence could be sold as “success,” even if it was not.
And that, perhaps, was the biggest insult to those of us in the military, out of many, coming from the Republican National Convention.

Em….My son in law and the son of a close friend are both on active duty, one Army one Navy. We have talked at length about the candidates and the attitude of service members. Your 6 to 1 ratio does not correspond with what they are saying. The troops are pretty well divided along racial lines. The black men and women are voting for BHO and everyone else is behind McCain. It is sad. I coach my sons little league football team, one mother who is black said ” I will vote for any black man running, I don’t care if he is convicted rapist and in prison, if his name is on the ballot I’m voting for him.” If he does indeed win (BHO) we can look back on this election as the day in which this republic and this great nation fell.

It is interesting how all your comments go one way. I still think you’d be a lot happier in your life if you moved to a more democratic party state. How about Minnesota? Al Franken is clearly your kind of guy/candidate-corny, an embarrassment and lacking in any real accomplishments except telling a joke. BTW-did you see that your man Obamanation already gave up on GA?

CORPORAL…The reason is SIMPLE! It’s called VETERAN’s BENEFITS.
McCain along with his toadie Graham have voted AGAINST increasing G.I.benefits. Benefits that you and I, and yes McCain enjoyed as returning warriors.
But I think this says it all…John McCain skipped close to a dozen votes on Iraq, and on at least another 10 occasions, he voted against arming and equipping the troops, providing adequate rest for the troops between deployments and for health care or other benefits for veterans.
September 2007: McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments.
I don’t really care what they are saying at the legion, or VFW. I for one do not buy into McCains BS!
In 2000 I would have voted hands down for McCain…But, he is not the same man!
On almost every issue that he stood for then, he is now against…PATHETIC!

Now this old veteran has got to get ready for a flight to Tampa.
Have a great day…..

I will remind all of you that it is easy to say a congressman or senator voted for or against a particular item in a bill. What alot of folks do not realize is good bills are often attached to very bad bills that assure defeat so both parties can point fingers and say gotcha. Sometimes you do have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Can we all say line item veto, which GWB has wanted for 8 years.

I wouldn’t trust GWB to wash my car let alone have the authority of a line-item veto!
On the other hand Bill Clinton also requested said line-item veto and was shot down by the supreme court as being unconstitutional.

One more thing fosdick, the line item veto can be used if it is ratified as a constitutional amendment, which it should be, for all POTUS to use at their discretion, including the bleeding heart liberal ones.

As the rabid liberal you are Jay, nothing Palin or McCain will say will please you. Obama has a 10% rating as far as pork is concerned but I guess that dosen’t matter since your one of his cheerleaders. Palin argues the fact that she fought against wastefull spending and I don’t think you can argue that fact. She uses fedral money where it is truely needed. For the tax payers instead of wellfare programs like the dems do….

Well, all I can say is I didn’t go into the service for benefits ($87 per month) and that never was my main focus after.
There are more important things to this country than the degree of veteran’s benefits.

The ignorance of most bloggers makes a normal reader laugh. This election will be determined by the independent voters as well as the female voters. Who will be more attractive to these voters. Most of the comments on here are from people who are either extremely liberal or extremely conservative. They are not the voters who will determine the outcome of this election (unless they do not vote). Both candidates are not the person each party would have preferred in the general election. DNC wanted Clinton. RNC wanted a more conservative candidate (Huckabee would have been their choice). Obama came from left field and surprised alot of DNC party members. If Florida and Michigan were counted during the primaries, Clinton would have won(Obama would not have had the momentum that he was able to achieve after super tuesday). McCain has never been a favorite among RNC party members. He is a moderate who has sided with democrats on several bills. Obama has touted change, but he picks an old senator from the east coast (for which voters tend to not vote for east coast candidates..VP included…) McCain picked a young, popular governor from Alaska (who is the only person on either ticket that has any executive experience). McCain shored up his conservative base and re-energized it. Obama picked someone who is part of the establishment that he wants to change. He should have picked Evan Bayh of Indiana (that would have won him the state of Indiana and possibly Ohio). If you are a moderate person who is looking for a new direction….who would you choose? We will know by November. Governor Palin seems to relate to the swing voter group and shows how McCain’s decision process could be like if elected president (picking key people for posts). The media is also helping the RNC. Biased reporting and consistent bullying of the RNC candidates makes moderate voters more thoughtful about those candidates and they seem to win. Most of your moderate voters also ignore the hollywood types and do not care about their opinions. They did not help Kerry, who by all counts should have won the last election. But the biased media coverage and the slamming of Bush by people such as MIchael Moore and Sean Pean appeared to help Bush. I guess we will see what happens in the future. My guess is that McCain/Palin will win the same states Bush did and might actually pick up a couple of more based upon the independent and female voter demographic.

Craig: You state the obvious (that’s why Corporal thinks it’s ‘excellent, reasoned points’)so it proves nothing. In fact, the Rethuglicons have been much better at lying and smearing Democrats particularly if you add in the neocon talking heads (Boortz, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, etc.) that act as amplifiers. Take the ‘lipstick on a pig’ non-issue the Rethuglicons hyped on all the news networks and then falsely demanded an apology from Obama. What a lot of complete B.S. McCain himself has said that several times when discussing Hillary Clinton’s health programs, but no news hype there. And there are plenty of other examples from the Rethuglicons.
Just as a reminder, I use the term Rethuglicon because the Republican party has become a bunch of thugs and con men. They need to be exposed for what they are. Their con man tactics of constantly repeating lies until they become accepted as the truth and their bullying of anyone that doesn’t buy in to their narrow theocratic world view. Palin is just sop to the Rethuglicon base; pro-gun, pro-Christian, pro-rich, pro-business. She plays the ‘I’m just one of you.’ card that Bush used to successfully sucker people into voting for him. If people can’t see those same character traits between Bush and Palin, they need to look harder. McCain by himself is toast. He’s out of touch, use his Vietnam POW experience as his credible for leadership, and claims he’s a maverick but is part of the Washington culture. He has no credibility or honor.
If the Clinton supporters want to punish Obama by voting for some 3rd party also-ran or for McCain, they will regret that decision. Their only hope is Obama and I’m sure he will put Hilliary Clinton on his cabinet (HHS Secretary sounds right to me). Just think if McCain put Romney or Huckabee in that position. Or Secretary of Defense. So scary. So very scary.
When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And McCain/Palin is living proof.

GA Liberal…
Your response was the reason for my points. You are an example of the extreme side of the political spectrum (based upon you response…extreme left). You resort to childish name calling when expressing your view point towards a specific political party. Each party has had issues with breaking or stretching the law to benefit their side/agenda. Ted Kennedy got away with murder, if I recall. Richard Nixon tried to cheat even though he would have easily won re-election (he was popular with the general public for withdrawing the US from Vietnam and opening the doors to China). Those are just two examples of each side. If you look at the basic demographics, most of your democratic strongholds are in urban settings (which have their own unique issues and wants politically). the republican strongholds are suburban and rural (which also have their own unique issues and wants politically). Successful politicians need to address the concerns of both sides, or find a nice place in the middle. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were able to do this and won re-election easily because of their strengths with the middle ground. Ronald Reagan was able to bring both sides together and work out compromises (being a California republican helped due to the political climate of California). Bill Clinton was successful because of his background in politics in a southern state plus by adding Al Gore (from Tennessee) helped by keeping the ticket closer to middle America. Both Clinton and Reagan were great speakers and people would listen to what they would say. An interesting side note is that a lot of democrats in the south switched to being republicans for their own political survival during and after the Reagan administration.
Both parties have great people who commit themselves to public service. Every now and then, someone will get corrupted by them system and fall from grace. Democrats and Republicans alike. For every republican, you can name a democrat who has done something “thug” like or unethical. During the Clinton Impeachment hearings, the person who was most critical of Bill Clinton’s affairs was Indiana Congressman Dan Burton ( a republican), who was also discovered to be doing the same thing Clinton was.
Hopefully, this election will start bringing both sides to a middle ground. People who have strong feelings towards the left and right are not those who will bring about unity and their opinions do not really matter. It’s about reaching middle America.
No matter who wins, some of the most heated items of the debate will not be addressed by the government. There will not be a National Healthcare policy. There will not be true immigration reform. There will not be a government answer for the economy. The economy goes up and down. It is a cycle. Every now and then, you will have a drop off, then re-alignment. Just read your history books. National Healtchcare is too much of a wildcard that makes good debate material, but you will never see anything substantial pass over the next 10-20 years. Immigration debate has been around since the 1800’s. Bottom line, immigrants fuel the economy and neither party will prevent it. The will publically try and state a side of the debate to win votes, but privately will do nothing. Politics are just that, politics.
People will vote based upon the beliefs and their own personal background. People that resort to name calling (ie..McShame or Nobama) or trying to place religious overtones to their arguments have already decided who they will vote for. Independent voters will not listen to such frivolous, one sided beliefs. They will do their own research and make the judgment based upon what they know is right. The upcoming debates will help some of those undecided voters with regards to who to vote for.

What definition of “earmark” are you using? E.g., it looks like one of the biggest items is $71 million for compliance with the federally mandated Safe Drinking Water Act. I think of “earmarks” as unnecessary pork barrel projects; taking federal money to do what the federal government requires you to do hardly seems like the “earmark” problem to me.

Okay folks, it looks like these ‘lies’ we’re fabricating against Governor Palin aren’t working. Her likeablity factor with women, the undecided and of course the Republicans is producing a backlash against OUR lies. We need to find another angle to derail her candidacy.

Jay. In being so negative about all that is Republican is what has gotten us to this disturbing point in our country. The Republicans can not stand the Democrats and vice versa. Therefore instead of trying to work together to solve our country’s problems and there are many, we simply play the blame game and say our policy (insert your party) is beter than their’s and so here we are. I am an Independent. I know that “W” has gotten us into a mess that will take years to straighten out. Maybe. However that doesn’t disqualify McCain. I see some good qualities/ideas from both McCain and Obama. I have some concerns about both. I think I probably just described the average independent voter. Who will I vote for? At this time I don’t know. But I do know that all the negativity from both sides is making me tired. I would like to be given a reason to vote for a candidate rather a reason to vote against a candidate. The only thing worse than Jimmy Carter the president (and we all know he was God awful) is Jimmy Carter the ex-president.He was a Democrat. But I still appreciate the 8 years of the Clintin administration. “W” is worse than awful but I still appreciate Reagan. See how it works. Democrat/Republican. Some are good others not so good. We have to be smart enough to figure that out and vote accordingly. If we all did this I think maybe we would all be better off. There’s good and bad in both parties. But that doesn’t eliminate/disqualify the others. My mama told me a long time ago,”Boy, don’t go shooting all of the dogs just cause one of them has fleas”. I think in this difficult time we would all be served better if we would consider this simple advice. John Hayes Camilla, Ga.
