‘Bridge to Nowhere’ leads to White House?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Is it possible to build a reputation as a straight-talking reformer upon a bald-faced lie? We may be about to find out.
In her speech to the GOP convention, Sarah Palin laid claim to the reformer title by boasting that she had told Congress “thanks but no thanks” for a $233 million federal earmark to build the infamous Bridge to Nowhere, which would have connected the mainland to an island with roughly 50 residents. That same boast is now being repeated in GOP TV ads and by John McCain as well.
“She, as governor, stood up and said, we don’t need it, and if we need it, we’ll pay for it ourselves,” McCain said Sunday. “Now, that’s guts. I saw that, and I said, this, this is what we need in Washington.”
Unfortunately, that version of events is contradicted by an extensive public record.
In her 2006 campaign for governor, Palin was a strong supporter of the bridge, as coverage at the time in the Anchorage Daily News makes clear. For example, she was asked the question point blank in a Q&A published Oct. 22, 2006:
Daily News: “Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
Palin: “Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.”
In an editorial on Oct. 26, 2006, the Anchorage Daily News criticized the project. But it also noted that “Republican candidate for governor Sarah Palin supports the airport bridge project, her spokesman says. Ms. Palin told KTUU-TV last week that she would look to the federal government to write more checks for the project.”
“Yeah, right,” the editorial went on to say. “Congress took so much nationwide grief over the money it already has forked over for the bridge that getting more is about as likely as Senate Democrats voting to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to wildcat oil drilling.”
Again, that was in fall 2006, after Congress had already killed an earmark for the bridge. By September 2007, it had become clear that federal funding for the bridge would never be resurrected and in fact was as dead as a caribou carcass. If the project was to be built, it would have to be with state funds. Then and only then did Palin come out against the boondoggle.
Oh, and by the way, the $233 million in federal funding did not go back to Washington, as Palin implies. Alaska still got that extra money; it just wasn’t earmarked for the bridge. The U.S. taxpayer still paid the bill.
Now, there is no way on earth that a reasonable person could look at those facts and conclude that Palin had indeed said “Thanks, but no thanks” to Congress. Yet she and the McCain camp continue to repeat that claim, a fact that demonstrates a profound contempt for the intelligence of the American people.

I didn’t infer that Governor Palin implied that the money went back to Washington.
Speaking of lies, half truths, or rumors. What do you think of a gossip site having to debunk CNN?
It can be hard to sift truth from myth from conspiracy theory when it comes to Sarah Palin, even if that’s what you’re paid to do. But one would hope a professional journalist’s natural skepticism would be piqued by the now-notorious Photoshop job at left of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin holding a rifle next to a swimming pool while wearing a bikini. Too good to be true! But Lola Ogunnaike, entertainment reporter for CNN’s American Morning, seems to believe the image is authentic. Yesterday she told Reliable Sources host Howard Kurtz that Palin should maybe avoid posing with guns like this, because it might come back to bite her in the backside{ed}

Excuse me, Jay, but I find it entirely within the realm of Republican reality that her words were simply truncated. For example, how do we know that she did not say “Thanks, but no thanks. We’ll need a lot more than that.”
Has that tape been inspected for missing seconds or minutes. Lost time is an indication of alien abduction and I think she may have been taken just like G.W. Bush. You know, he also has some time that is still not accounted for although he may very well have been flying over the Bermuda Triangle when his time lapse occurred.
By the way, I see that you are in need of a separate page to cover some basic concepts (sort of like an FAQ page) including “reporting of facts” and ” stating of opinions”. You might even consider adding “demagoguery” to the page.

Jay, Sarah was chosen to rally the faithful, and she’s an over the top success. Before the convention, McCain’s campaign was on life support. Now he’s got millions in the bank, and thousands of enthusiastic supporters showing up for his campaign stops. It must hurt his feelings that most of them are showing up to watch the moose killing babe turn water into grape juice; we all know that wine nonsense is nothing more than liberal lies. And Jay while we’re at it why do you waste our time with all your silly facts and figures? Bible thumpers learned a long time ago that facts and figures lack intestinal fortitude. Wow, Jay. I read a few of the comments and was amazed how willing some of the readers are to ignore the message.
Yes, Sarah Palin is distorting the story—- and she should be held to account for it. But, when a political candidate won’t speak to the press what do you expect? Will Charlie Gibson represent the entire national press when he gets to interview Palin? Perhaps Charlie will think “Country First” and will finally provide America with a real view of Sarah’s qualifications. Wonder if any other news agencies will get a chance after his interview???
When a presidential campaign takes such an unknown quantity and places her in the number-two slot it begs a few sincere questions, doesn’t it? We need more than speeches, Sarah, or it’ll be “Thanks, but no thanks” to YOU.

If anyone takes the time to look, Snopes also refutes claims against McCain, Obama, and Biden as well.

If you can do that then you have proof, however how it stands she had to accept the decision handed down to her. That is simply picking your fights. The earmark was set aside for her state. You don’t always get to just refuse them, again show where she had a choice.

And second, Governor Palin has indeed cut back Federal funds and earmarks for her State. In 2005, Alaska received $705 million dollars in earmarks, according to the Federal Government Office of Management and Budget. As the article quoted above clearly states, in 2009 Alaska is only requesting a total of $197 million in earmarks, while in 2008 they received a whopping $256 million.
So let’s see, in 2005 Alaska was receiving $508 million dollars more in earmarks than it will be in 2009 under Governor Palin

The faithful conservative base chanting ‘USA’, to drown out the hecklers. What issues did he discuss? Do you really believe that in four years he can do what he hasn’t done in 26 years in the Senate? What good news could he report about the last eight years of Republican rule. King George is a failed leader who will be seen as one of the worst in history. The Palin administration, citing a need to improve the state’s credibility, plans to ask Alaska’s congressional delegation for far fewer earmarks in the coming year.
“We really want to skinny it down,” said Karen Rehfeld, Gov. Sarah Palin’s budget chief.
In fact, the defense spending bill that Stevens helped get through the Senate this year includes more than $183 million in earmarked projects for Alaska, with most of the spending going for projects on the state’s military bases.

This is a twofer and even on topic!
Congress passed legislation to expedite a pipeline in 2004. Ms. Palin’s predecessor as governor, Republican Frank H. Murkowski, attempted to negotiate a deal with the three oil companies that control the North Slope gas, Exxon Mobil, BP and Conoco Phillips. His plan would have awarded the companies a long-term tax freeze in return for relatively weak commitments to actually build the pipeline. But even though Vice President Cheney and Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) lobbied hard for Mr. Murkowski’s approach, Alaska’s public and legislature balked, viewing the proposal as stacked in favor of the Big Three oil companies. Ms. Palin rode criticism of Mr. Murkowski’s deal to victory over him in the 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary and then to the governor’s office later that year. She reversed Mr. Murkowski’s strategy, asking the legislature to pass a law setting criteria for a deal, then throwing the project open to companies other than the Big Three. The result was a commitment by an experienced pipeline company, TransCanada, to build the project, which may take 10 years, in return for $500 million in state seed money derived from Alaska’s recent oil windfall.
So not only did Mrs. Palin do exactly what she said she did on the pipeline issue, it also shows that when Obama and Biden repeatedly call her a Cheney clone they are lying to you. I bet Jay’s busy banging out those 12 paragraphs as we type.

Ellie,
A truly appalling thing is that we cannot expect politicians to tell us the truth. The truth is that government is far too big and simply out of control. Somehow, we have to find a way to change that. A good first step is less government but the politicians can even conceal even the size of government so effectively that they can “honestly” say that they reduced the size of government, for example, without really reducing the size of government. Think off- balance sheet transactions, for example. It’s all in the rhetoric and most successful politicians are masters of rhetoric. Telling the truth is not a requirement. The only requirement is to give a convincing presentation — “I’m what you need and here’s why”. Of course, that message must also be delivered within a certain time of the election in order to capture the hearts and minds of those impulse shoppers, undecided ones, etc. These next two months may prove to be quite interesting.

The recent spate of images of Gov. Palin going around the internet included a slew of her daughter, a number with alcohol, taken from her boyfriend’s Facebook page… Holding Palin up as a paragon of virtue while using her office to get involved in her sister’s messy divorce (is that what God wants?; no subordinate gets involved with their boss’s family disasters without directly being told to do so); Her advocating abstinance education but being so out of touch with her own child that she doesn’t realizing it isn’t working at home and so other parenting options need to be set into play~ Trumpeting her advocacy of special needs children and family values whilst taking a job that will necessitate leaving her infant in the care of others (oh, will that require social services?) - at least if she’s going to do the VP job well…. (and she can’t do the job well if she’s going to devote herself to her infant)… Her nomination has galled me as a working mother like nothing else (yep, even took a lower-paying job with fewer benefits so I could spend more time w/my daughter - volunteer in school, be home when the bus swings by, take her to after school sports, the whole bit). It galls me every time I hear her touted as the feminist working mother we should all be emulating… I never abandoned my daughter in need to pursue my own self-agrandizing goals. Either the child’s needs come first, or they do not. If you dump your special needs child on your husband, that makes you a feminist? Is that what God wants? Not how I last read the Bible…

And your point is Jay? Earmarks, schmearmarks and gotcha politics?
Earmark reform (transparency) is a joke. Who the heck’s gonna be lookin’ at what goes on in say…..Illinois and Arizona unless it’s the taxpayers in those states who are chowing down on the bacon their representatives brought home? Be difficult for them to speak with full mouths, now wouldn’t it? The rest of us would be waiting for our delivery.
OBlahMa porking us in Illinois to the tune of $33,000,000 to solve the “carping” problem.
Government earmarks to enhance the community? Define “enhance”.
This crappie carping gets tiresome.
What I want is a president who’ll take a close look at government bureaucracies and whether or not they’re a good investment. Is the return worth the cost to taxpayers. Besides that, Governor Palin won’t be vetoing pork laden bills. That’ll be John McCain. and as you can ^^^ see.

No one ever claimed that Palin lies about everything. Come one, get real. I mean she really does want to eliminate all abortions no matter what even if the mother is dying and it is the only way to save her or even if she is raped by her own father or whatever. Also, she really does believe that we are on a mission from God in Iraq. I mean, this is a holy war thing with her and it’s all about the end times and that nuclear button could just be the key to salvation. So, you see, she doesn’t lie about everything.

Seems like a valid point, but a minor one. Palin’s image as a reformer stands.
80-90% of Alaska’s revenue is oil. The big oil companies own the state. Palin was appointed to the Board which oversees conservation of Alaska’s resources. She blew the whistle on a fellow Board member who had secret ties to the oil companies. When the Governor, who had similar ties, supported the corrupt Board member, Palin resigned and successfully challenged the Governor, with little support from her own party.
The Governor had negotiated a sweetheart deal with the oil companies for a pipeline. Governor Palin cancelled the deal, and put the pipeline out for bids like it should have been done. The major oil companies refused to bid, but she arranged a deal with a Canadian company.
Stop believing the liberal national news media, Bookman; and start doing your own homework. You have better sense than this.

Do you think it’s a wise strategy for Democrats to say “Hey, there was this police officer, was drinking while driving a state vehicle and used his taser on his 11-year old , the police commissioner refused to fire him so the governor fired the commissioner. What an abuse of power and a travesty.”

Lying is the biggest issue facing voters this year. After eight years of Bush/Cheney, we certainly don’t need Sarah Palin robbing the treasury while telling us what a great reformer she is. Jay,
Speaking of the search for government pork, here’s a story talking about a group of well connected people attempting to have 100 million dollars of government property (RF spectrum) given to them through their connections.
http://www.cagw.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=7216
I have a family member who is the CEO of the company that lead the effort have this spectrum auctioned rather than be given away. Northpoint was a sham that couldn’t provide the technology that they claimed that they had developed, as what they claimed to develop really didn’t work. Their “technology” was really a ruse intended to get the government to give them what was eventually auctioned for approximately 100 Million dollars, with the hopes of turning around and selling the spectrum, hence pocketing what should have gone to the taxpayer. When they couldn’t get the FCC to go along, they bought people like Biden by cutting them in through their families. Biden’s children had been given an interest in the company. Biden supported this and fought for them. Thankfully and largely through the efforts of my family member (and a few good politicians like John McCain), they didn’t succeed. The difference between The Bridge and this is that Gov. Palin was never in a position to personally benefit. Biden’s children stood to personally make millions from scamming the government and Daddy tried to do all he could to help.
I’d be happy to supply you with more specifics and contact information so you could do your journalist thing and get one hell of a scoop here. My family member who led this fight and can confirm this is a Democrat who is supporting Obama. He has no axe to grind here and I feel sure that he could give you all you need to land one heck of a story if you’d check it out. I feel equally sure that I’ll never hear from you as you’re about a fair and balanced as Fox News. Democrats good, Republicans bad! Gesh! Whether she backed the bridge or not initially is irrelevant; it’s what she did as governor that matters.
Hillary back the war, then she didn’t. Obama wants to roll back tax cuts, but as of today, now says, wait, we won’t do that right away.
Sarah Palin, folks, is a leader, an inspiration to those who crave a person who values our values, who understands our lives, who lives the life we lead.
For more than 16 years, Sarah Palin has started the day thinking, “what can I do to help my community?” She’s what we need in Washington.
I don’t agree with all her policies; I’m pro-choice. But I want a leader in Washington who understand that this is a great country, that we are a great people, and will base their actions and policies on that premise.
The media, and Mr. Bookman, continue to seek ways to drown out Mrs. Palin. There were even stories speculating when, not if, when she would withdraw from the race.
The media supposes it knows best, but rarely does. One example: which state in the union is the leader in wind power technology? Texas. Who was the governor who created the program that put them in that position?
George Bush.
Who, according to Bono, has done more to help fight AIDS in Africa, to fight hunger in Africa, than anyone in the world?
George Bush.
You won’t read about those things from the media, just as you won’t read about the positive impact Sarah Palin is having on this country.

RW, I’d tread lightly on your allegations of plagiarism, if I were you. A lot of folks think John McCain ripped off Solzhenitsyn and made up the part of his autobiography in which he claimed a Vietnamese guard made the symbol of a cross in a humane gesture. Seems he has several versions of that story, just like his tale about naming football players when the Viets asked him about his subordinates.
Paul: I’m a true left-winger and I think the trooper should have been fired. But the question arising from this situation — Did Palin overstep her bounds and abuse power? — is another matter altogether and deserves looking into. Since Solzhenitsyn never wrote that story anywhere the whole notion that Sullivan tried to start and lot’s of you moonbats bought into couldn’t have come form Solzhenitsyn’s writings.
That story is just like the one about Barry thinking of joining the military. There’s no way to know if either are true. On the one hand McCain doesn’t include that in his story upon his return from captivity. On the other hand, Obambi doesn’t tell us about his military service flirtation in either of his autobiographies.
By the way, it isn’t just the Alaska legislature that’s on board with that investigation. Governor Palin is also on board. I’m afraid this trooper deal is one that you’ll get more mileage out of if you can keep it from being investigated.

Interesting how such a topic as firing a policeman takes on a Dem/Rep split in an election, isn’t it? As I understand it, it was up to the police commissioner to fire the trooper. He refused, Palin fired the commissioner. Generally speaking, such people are appointees and serve at the pleasure of the executive. They can be fired for any reason or no reason, so the ‘abuse of power’ doesn’t hold – the executive has the power to do whatever they want, so it can’t be ‘abused.’ One may disagree with their reason, but that’s still not an abuse.

The more there is revealed about what a liar, what a lover of ignorance (e.g., creationism, pro-life bullcrap) what an utter hypocrite (e.g. the jet on Ebay, the bridge money returned) this Palin creature is, the more sure I am that she will, in fact, succeed at nudging McCain the rageaholic, McCain the loose canon, McCain the same old same old into the White House.
Someplace long ago, this country gave up on looking for truth, having decided we had found and trademarked it. Somewhere along the way, we became a nation of proudly ignorant bullies, a nation of thugs, a nation of chimperors. People who say the Palins and the McCains represent real American values are right: those values are mendacity, hypocrisy, and prideful arrogance inflated to its utmost.

Jay,
The legislation for this was already in process as she was running for governor. Her comment on support of the bridge was “yes I support any improvement in the infrastructure of Alaska”. We may never know her true feelings toward the actual bridge itself. But she did use the funding for infrastructure. Therefore her support or seeming support of the bridge may just have been a ruse so that the money would get appropriated.
Technically she could have been against the bridge but for the funding, but it would have been politically and financially foolish to seperate the two in official discussion. Splitting hairs I’ll admit. That’s what politicians do.
We’re not excited about her, and you libbies are not trembling just because of this bridge issue. She simply blows your boy out of the water. Did you catch his stammering act with George S yesterday, with a little muslim foot in the mouth to boot. Good stuff.

I bet Obama can name school that are low performing in his community (b.) have met people, prior to running for office, who do not have medical insurance or a primary physician (c.) personally knows someone who has been laid off or have lost their home since 2005. 6.) He’s a thinker, analyzer and a DOER.
McCain has had a lot of years to make changes in the Senate, but wants to start making CHANGES in 2009. McCain has had the last 8 years to help make America a better place and work with the current administration to resolve the issues in Iraq, but wants to wait until 2009. I’m 37 years old and I have CHANGED a lot in the last few years, but I don’t think I could have waited until my 38th birthday to start making a change in my life. If I had, I would still be in diapers.
Palin is the only CHANGE that McCain has brought to this year’s Presidential Campaign. She’s young, pretty, an energetic and appears to be family oriented. However, I would thump Sarah Palin the same as I would a watermelon. That’s the southern way of identifying if I’m making a GOOD Purchase. She looks and speaks excellent for the cameras, but when you open her up for a TASTE, you get MUSH or a downright BAD TASTE.
I’ve had over 12 months to THUMP OBAMA and so far he has withstood very tough scrutiny.

Fighting a Different Alaska Republican, Alaska Dems Credit Palin with Killing Bridge to Nowhere September 08, 2008 4:38 PM
Conservative bloggers point out that in their campaign against Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, Alaska Democrats gave credit to Gov. Palin for helping to kill the Bridge to Nowhere.
“Gov. Sarah Palin said the $398 million bridge was $329 million short of full funding, and only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it,” the Democrats say. “She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the state had higher priorities.”
On another page the Dems say, “Gov. Palin recently cancelled the Gravina Island Bridge near Ketchikan that would have connected the Alaska mainland with Gravina Island (population: 50).”

Jay B,
As far as the “lie” you say we aren’t addressing, there was obviously a point in time where Governor Palin changed position from that of candidate Palin.
I’d prefer to see her answer when the press asks her and see if it’s a plausible one. I don’t even accuse Democrats of lying until I’ve seen their answer to “why the change” and “how can you now make that claim?”

Nope, sorry right of center. :
As the statement makes clear, that was AFTER Congress had cancelled the federal money and the state was faced with paying most of the cost itself.
As your own source states, at that point “only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it” and “it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the state had higher priorities.”
That in no way validates Palin’s claim she rejected federal money.

Earlier I said ‘thanks’ for a recap from factcheck. But possibly the “no one cares” is because some see nuance or a “rest of the story” where you see a ‘lie’?
Factcheck says: “Palin may have said “Thanks, but no thanks” on the Bridge to Nowhere, though not until Congress had pretty much killed it already. But that was a sharp turnaround from the position she took during her gubernatorial campaign, “
So it appears Factcheck accepts a certain measure of flowery discourse from politicians, while Dems want to be lawyerly literalists. Kinda like Biblical literalists take every word as True.
Liberal Dems and Biblical Fundamentalists. Strange bedfellows, indeed.

Oh man, it wasn’t the Bridge Fairy:
September 24, 2007 Today, the Club for Growth PAC praised Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for standing up to her state’s famous porkers, Republican Senator Ted Stevens and Republican Representative Don Young, notorious for securing $223 million in taxpayer money for Alaska’s “Bridge to Nowhere.”
According to the Associated Press, Governor Palin ordered the state transportation department to abandon the taxpayer-funded travesty connecting Gravina Island, population 50, to a larger island in southeastern Alaska and find the most “fiscally responsible” alternative for accessing the airport on Gravina Island.

Uh-oh:
Posted August 18, 2008 Huff and Puff- Stevens and Young have done enormous damage nationally to the Republican brand. They were champions of the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” a $223 million span to Gravina Island with 50 people on it, that became the butt of late-night comedians. But the jokes have been replaced with anger:
But voters are voicing dissent. Gov. Sarah Palin swept into office in 2006 by winning a GOP primary over incumbent Frank Murkowski, a former colleague of Stevens and Young in Congress. “I want Alaska to be known for more than FBI sting operations,” she has declared. Palin openly encouraged Sean Parnell, her lieutenant governor, to mount a primary challenge to Young and has not endorsed Mr. Stevens against his primary challenger, Anchorage banker David Cuddy.
Hot Sarah was picked for the VP 11 days after this^^.

I am reminded of a deluge of posts about Obama’s church and his years of attendance every time I read about that thing that some posters find so offensive. I think we need a side-by-side bullet list for each team that is running for the head offices. At the rate we’re going with the uncovering of all the dirt and lies and other undesirable stuff about the Democrat and Republican teams, we’ll end up with a Barr/Mckinney ticket that just looks too good to pass up on. Who cares if she tried to ban books from the Wasilla library and attempted to use the governor’s office as a means to avenge her sister’s failed marriage? Don’t you have any respect for women? Oh My!
Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.
However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.
Spelling problems in original.
So Obama and Biden really, really wanted that bridge. OK, I’m cool with this line of attack now.

Again, Management, Palin “killed” the bridge only after it became clear that Congress was cutting off earmarks for the project, meaning the state would have to pay most of the cost itself.
She didn’t refuse the earmarks, as she claims. She didn’t say “thanks but no thanks.” She pushed for the earmarks, and after losing that fight, she had no choice but to kill the project.
Pay attention, management. That was dealt with above, after somebody else posted the same thing.

Palin is just another Rethuglicon hypocrite. She claims to be better than the rest of the Washington crowd, but that’s just lies. She got her little town over $40 million in earmarks from Ted ‘Mr. Pork’ Stevens and even supported his re-election. She knows how to get the government checkbook opened so she wanted Mr. Pork back in Congress.
And that isn’t the worse thing she’s done. She used her office to get her ex-brother-in-law (his name is Wooten - too funny, huh) fired from the state troopers. When the top trooper refused to entertain repeated requests, she fired him. The AK legislature investigated this and found e-mails from her staff stating it was the governor’s wish that Wooten be fired. When the top trooper said no, he was canned by Palin. Incredibly, Palin claimed he was fired over a difference of opinion on law enforcement. When confronted by the e-mails, she then claimed she had no knowledge and her aides acted on their own. In short, she tried to lie her way out of this abuse of power. Does all this sound familiar?
Of course, the Rethuglicon bootlickers feign outrage and claim there are politically motivated attacks on a good, Christian white woman. Of course, it’s ok for them to lie about Michelle Obama She’s not proud of America, she’s a militant who wants to ‘get Whitey,’ and she ain’t white after all. Palin is wanting to be handed the White House so her use or abuse of her office is relevent to the election. Her support of Ted Stevens speaks volumes about her credibles about changing the Washington culture. She’s not fit for office.
When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And Palin’s lies and abuse of power is living proof.

Do any of you even know what an earmark is? An earmark is merely a congressional mandate that certain money be spent on a certain project. In the case of the bridge, it appears the money was already part of AK’s DOT alottment, and the earmark was just the Congressional requirement that AK spend the money on the bridge rather than letting AK decide what to spend it on. With the earmark removed, AK keeps the money and is allowed to chose how to spend it. This is nothing special Earmarks are considered corrupt because it is often assumed that members of congress earmark money as a favor to certain people, and thereby bypassing local decision-making that may be contrary to the friends of the congressman. The point is that the fact that AK kept the money has nothing to do with the earmark process. Palin’s victory is in not letting AK’s corrupt congressional delegation bypass state government by earmark AK’s money.

The AJC is just like all the other media. They feel its their duty to tell people how to vote and the only way to do this is by only writing good things about one (ALL THE TIME) and by slaming the other (McCAIN). Guess what, I have a brain.
There is no way I would elect a President who cares more about other countries then ours. There is no way I would elect a president who wants to raise every tax in the book. That will throw the country into a Depression, Yes DEPRESSION, NOT RECESSION. Obama simply does not care, he was brought up to take over America and turn it Muslim. Its all in the books and this is serious. No way with his roots on terrior and his so called MODELS of Hate would I vote for Obama. I have my kids and grandkids to worry about. What kind of world will we have. Will they even have a world. This election is to important to vote for someone who holds bombers at his heart and a precher who comdems America and look at his friend the last several years. OMG. NO NO NO. McCain might not be the best candidate but he is the one that wont distroy AMERICA.
The AJC And Media of this country simply do not care, they are all rich and have an adjenda to be richer. Not defending Jay, but this is not journalistic demagoguery. There are too many sources backing the so-called reforms from palin. It has become evident that palin is every bit as much a phony as obama. What people need to be asking is why these four are the so-called ‘best’ to lead this nation. If these four are the best we can produce for POTUS & VP, we are in deep trouble.

I trully feel sorry for you and your thought process. Thank God that blogs like this are not representative of what America is all about. If McCain/Palin win, we will survive as there have been worse administrations. I just hope that religion, emotionalism and a likeness for war does not inspire these two to push buttons that might destroy us all.

It’s so sad that we are simply falling into the non-issues. Is arguing about the potential VP really all that important? I mean, let’s focus more on the actual presidents. And, please, can the folks on the right wing side please stop with all of the insults every time someone disagrees. Democrats aren’t necessarily all far left cheese eating surrender monkeys. It’s ridiculous. I am a registered Democrat but have voted Republican many times, including once for GW. But get turned off by the typical Republican response to criticism, which is to go off the deep end with generalizations about being crazy—“left wing nutjob” is what I have read a few times. I think the shoe fits both ways. Keep thinking that everyone outside of GA doesn’t feel the same way as me and not only will you have lost Congress and the Senate, you will have lost this election. But I am sure you will find a way to tear that apart as well once Obama gets in office. It’s really, really sad. It’s a big country, people….a lot of different views outside of Gwinnett County or wherever the hell you are from.

This just in……
Reliable sources have just revealed that the Obama administration has just sent Secretary of State Spike Lee to Venezuala to begin negotiations with Caesar Chavez and Vladimer Putin in hopes that the proposed naval exercises of the coast can be averted. Lee, a well known movie producer before becoming State Secretary has requested that Ice Tea, Ludicrous and Snoop Dog, along with their respective hangers on accompany Lee on the trip, in hopes of adding some credibility to the negotiations. Lee, known for his rational and level headed approach to those who disagree with him, carries the hope of the people of the Western Hemisphere and has assured that if Putin gives him any sh**, we’ll handle it. Nome sayin’?

That “contempt for the intelligence of the American public” is richly earned. This is an electorate that couldn’t pass a basic civics test. Why wouldn’t they love a VP candidate who thinks the Pledge of Allegiance came from the “Founding Fathers?” Give Rove and Repubs credit: they’ve finally figured out no “journalist” will call them on outright lies. Why bother to subtly shade the truth? Go for the BIG lie. The corporate-owned media and lazy intellect of the mouth-breathing public will give you all the cover you need. Thank goodness. No more worries about “troublesome” facts. In a “fair and balanced” media, the truth is balanced by lies. This equation always benefits the liar.
Face it, the dolts who populate Leno’s “Jay Walking” skits are indeed, us. That’s the real answer to all the “why is this race so close?” questions - the answer no journalist or pol dares give.

MAC: do a quick google on “Alaska governor chef”. She still works for the state — saving NO money — and now cooks for the legislators instead.
Saving the state NO money but making herself look good. The Palin way.

If you did your research you would have found that Obama and Biden both voted for the “bridge to nowhere” while McCain did not. They also rejected funding for the Twin Spans Bridge that was damaged by Katrina in the same vote. Keep it real man.
