The destructive force of Hurricane Karl
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“”The Republicans can’t seem to get a break with regards to August, when it comes to the weather,” says Karl Rove, noting the possibility that Hurricane Gustav may hit New Orleans just as the GOP convention opens.
As they board up their homes and scatter, I’m sure the people of the Gulf Coast are full of sympathy and concern for Karl.

Bookman gets paid to write this meaningless partisan dreck?
If the AJC wants to save money, they can just fire Bookman and copy random posts from the Huffington Post. There is no difference in the quality of commentary, and the mindlessly partisan quotes at HuffPost are free.
Maybe then the AJC can spend some money on actual news reporters instead of undifferentiated partisan hackery. I’d love to see Bookman actually have to get a real job.

Deadly Hurricane Gustav gains power- With scores dead behind it, resurgent storm heads from Jamaica toward Cuba, then the United States.-Urinal/DNC
Well, well, we finally have a case of the liberals actually praying to God.
The whole entire Urinal article not one mention of evacuation preparedness.
I guess they want their dullards to stay right there until the hurricane mows them over and slaughters them like it did last time.
Then, we can get on with the real, real, real important things in life, blaming the Republicans.
What’s a few thousand dead poor people when you get to harass Bushie out of the deal?
Emergency Preparedness- We are continuing to monitor this storm as state government agencies have been put on standby, so we are ready to quickly respond if the storm heads our direction. I encourage all Louisiana families again to make sure you have the supplies you need and a plan in place should a hurricane come to your area. The time to act is now. We all need to be prepared and ready to respond.-Bobby Jindal, governor’s office
It looks like some people care about their citizen’s lives.

I always feel so much more informed after reading a Bookman post. For example, now I know that Bookman hates Karl Rove. I wait, I already knew that, as Bookman hates everyone who does not share his narrow and intolerant view of the world. You know, just like all mindless partisan hacks.

Let’s all imagine that this is 1939 and Germany has just invaded Poland:
Georgias leadership followed through on a call from lawmakers who voted late Thursday to break off ties with Russia. Russia criticized the move, saying it would not help mend ruined ties.-Urinal/Jihad
Seig Heil, y’all?
~~~~~
Giving credit where credit is due, although this is surrounded with goony propaganda:
Jill Hazelbaker, a spokeswoman for McCain, said, She has a record of accomplishment that Senator Obama simply cannot match. Governor Palin has spent her time in office shaking up government in Alaska and actually achieving results - whether its taking on corruption, passing ethics reform or stopping wasteful spending and the bridge to nowhere. Senator Obama has spent his time in office running for president.-AJC
~~~~~
Some times the Urinal Editorial Board Vent actually brings a smile:
John McSame may not pick up the Hillary votes with his choice for VP, but hell pick up a lot of male votes.
*Sarah Palin doesnt need pantsuits! *
After listening to Sarah Palin, McCains choice for VP, I am proud to be a Republican for the first time in my adult life. Get it?
The National Organization for Women is having its worst nightmare come true: A female nominee to the second-highest elective office in the land is a conservative Republican.

Karl Rove is a non-player this year, so have fun with your partisan jabs Jay, if it makes you feel better, if it makes you feel like a big man to shovel a little crap…..to the rest of us, it just makes you look like a very small intellect.
Last time I looked, Minneapolis is a little farther up the road from New Orleans than Slidell. Since Dubya most likely will be making a video appearance only at the RNC, he can stay in DC to monitor the situation, and the Reps can have their party.
So what if it hits New Orleans anyway? If you are a city that is built at or below actual sea level, what the hell do you expect when this happens?
No doubt the media will once more interview the dregs that floated back into town after Katrina looking for a handout, and film them standing defiantly in front of their shacks, saying:
“We ain’t leavin’ our homes”
“We gots no where to go”
“Where’s de govment at to help us?”
“Aint nobody been here to help us”
“Caint nobody makes me leave my home!”
“I aint got my check yet from Katrina, an de govment promised me a new house an I aint got that neither!”
You get the picture. S O S, different storm. They kept that incompetent fool Ray Nagin as Mayor, so they deserve what they get, and hopefully it will not be more taxpayer money. Anyone that doesn’t leave in time before the storm, see ya, don’t wanna be ya.

For starters, we’d say Governor Palin’s credentials as an agent of reform exceed Barack Obama’s. Mr. Obama rose through the Chicago Democratic machine without a peep of push-back. Alaska’s politics are deeply inbred and backed by energy-industry money. Mr. Obama slid past the kind of forces that Mrs. Palin took head on. This is one reason her selection — despite its campaign risks — seems to have been so well received by Republicans yesterday. They are looking for a new generation of leaders.-Wall Street Journal
It’s time for the United States to shelve all of the bluster and speechifying and take action.

The destructive force of the truth:
“They’re terrified of people poking around Fake Temple Pilot’s life,” one reporter told Gabriel Sherman at the New Republic. The stakes are high. If the full story of Mr. Obama’s relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright had been revealed before the Iowa caucus, he wouldn’t have won.
Walking the rows of media outlets at the Denver convention, I had no trouble finding reporters who complained the campaign was secretive and evasive. Ben Smith of Politico.com has written about Team Obama’s “pattern of rarely volunteering information or documents, even when relatively innocuous.”
Chasing the rest of Mr. Obama’s paper trail is often an exercise in frustration. Mr. Obama says his state senate records “could have been thrown out” and he didn’t keep a schedule in office. No one appears to have kept a copy of his application for the Illinois Bar. He has released only a single page of medical records, versus 1,000 pages for John McCain.

Somebody correct me if I have been misinformed…….is George Bush running for reelection this year? I see a lot of lefties using the ‘Bush/McCain’ logo, and always referring to that in these blogs.
a) Is Bush running again, or are all of these idiots running their hate against Bush toward McCain, trying to make a non-existent connection?
b) Is the left so stupid as to think that Bush actually is running?
c) Have the recreational drugs the socialists take finally started to kick in, frying whatever brain matter some of them may still possess?
d) Are the leftists so unaware of reality that they think that Bush actually could run for a 3rd term?
I could list items that portray the idiocy of the left all day. Perhaps no one more insignificant as Jay could have made my point any better than he did by taking his partisan shot at Rove. Last I saw, Rove wasn’t running for anything either, or running anyone’s campaign, but does commentary for Fox News, among others. The hate and anger of the left spills out at anyone in thought’s reach that they feel they can and should vent against.
You leftists are to be pitied. But, do not take that as an open invitation to a government handout once McCain/Palin take office, citing your ‘mental burnout’ as the cause for deep psychological trauma. ( BTW, ‘mental burnout’ implies that you had something there to burn in the first place, so I just bestowed a compliment on you morons.)
Perhaps we will take care of you after the election, like pets, I suppose.

When Gustav hits LA, the media will have a big excuse to switch coverage (what little it gives it), from the Repub convention to NO. We will be fed the same old footage again of these poor unfortunates and of course, the Annointed One will visit NO and confirm that he has the situation well under control while the evil Bush sits by and does nothing. If he needed any more black votes, this will cement his “concern” for his voter base. So predictable…..if it weren’t so pathetic, it would be amusing.

What I see from all this, and I suspect it carries more truth than any pitiful whining coming from the outclassed and outwitted goony left, this former muscular athlete and mother of five children had the will power and discipline to “cut out the fat,” something sorely lacking with Liberty Bell Bruno, remaking herself as a lean and, uh, mean fighting machine.

John McCain needs to persuade swing voters that he’s willing to take on the Republican establishment. He needs to persuade conservatives that he isn’t squishy about social issues. And he needs to close the gender gap. When you think about it, the real surprise about Sarah Palin’s selection as his running mate is that it’s such a surprise.
Palin may be an obscure 44-year-old first-term governor and mother of five from tiny Wasilla, Alaska, but in many ways she reinforces John McCain’s narrative of a maverick conservative crusader. She’s risen to power by battling corruption in her own state’s Republican establishment, exposing misconduct by the state GOP chairman and challenging the incumbent GOP governor. She’s a committed Christian who’s pro-life in practice as well as in theory; she recently gave birth to a son that she knew would have Down Syndrome.
But Palin can help McCain through biography as well as resume. She’ll be the first woman on a Republican ticket, which the campaign is surely hoping will appeal to Hillary Clinton voters and help reduce Barack Obama’s advantage among women. She’s a fresh face to counteract Obama’s message of change, and she’s about as far outside the Beltway as you can get. A child of the middle class with a friendly face and big hair, she is so affable that she once won Miss Congeniality in a beauty pageant. Her son is about to deploy to Iraq. She’s an ice fisherman, a moose hunter, a small business owner and a lifetime NRA member. And she shelved her state’s pork-laden Bridge to Nowhere that McCain has ridiculed on the trail.

The first words from Team dunce on the palin selection:
“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency,” said Obama spox Bill Burton. “Gov. Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil, and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same.”
Apparently that didn’t poll real well because a few hours later we got this:
We send our congratulations to Gov. Sarah Palin and her family on her designation as the Republican nominee for vice president,” said the Democratic ticket in a joint statement. “It is yet another encouraging sign that old barriers are falling in our politics. While we obviously have differences over how best to lead this country forward, Gov. Palin is an admirable person and will add a compelling new voice to this campaign.”
That came with a ridiculous excuse that some over eager campaign flunky put out the first response. It’s an insult to our intelligence that the campaign would put out a first message that wasn’t approved at the top and the fact that Burton is still on the payroll proves it.

New Orleans residents are making runs on guns and snapping them up like a kid in a toy store. Wonder why that is?
Three years later, you would think the government hacks down there would have figured it out by now - but, it’s all Bush’s fault of course…and this is from PBS…in May:
BETTY ANN BOWSER: Ivor Van Heerden headed yet another independent investigation, paid for by the state. He is deputy director of the Hurricane Center at Louisiana State University. He has also written a book about Katrina.
Van Heerden says, even though the repairs are almost complete, the Corps has not made New Orleans any safer.
IVOR VAN HEERDEN, LSU Hurricane Center: They’re back where they were. You know, where it failed, they’ve done fairly robust repairs. But there are many areas where it almost failed; there are many areas where the levees are in a very compromised position.
So we have no better protection now than we did before Katrina. We are still super-susceptible to storm surges, and we could get that storm that floods everything once again.
And you liberals want to put our health care in the hands of some big collective socialist state of affairs run by the mindset of incompetent government hacks like that^^.
Incredible.

Jingle is lining up buses, trains, stage coaches, jitneys…. most anything that will carry a person north. I hope that they don’t come to Macon, although they probably will. The motels will fill up and be trashed, the eateries will have long lines with complaining, loud people looking for a handout and it will not let up until someone with a welfare check shows up. And if the owners of these establishments complain about their patrons, they will be labeled racists and non-caring. While living in Florida and surviving many hurricanes, I cannot remember one train, bus or other conveyance carrying anyone north before a storm. We were told to evacuate and we did just that without the help of the government, the city or anyone else. When we arrived back home to damage, flooding and property loss, we cleaned up and worked hard to restore our neighborhoods. I cannot remember ever getting a government check for much of anything and never have.

Climate Change: Not every scientist is part of Al Gore’s mythical “consensus.” Scientists worried about a new ice age seek funding to better observe something bigger than your SUV the sun.
Back in 1991, before Al Gore first shouted that the Earth was in the balance, the Danish Meteorological Institute released a study using data that went back centuries that showed that global temperatures closely tracked solar cycles.
To many, those data were convincing. Now, Canadian scientists are seeking additional funding for more and better “eyes” with which to observe our sun, which has a bigger impact on Earth’s climate than all the tailpipes and smokestacks on our planet combined.
And they’re worried about global cooling, not warming.
No kidding. We’ve had the coolest summer I can recall this year. I wonder how the Algorebots are going to spin global cooling into global warming?

Bob Casey was twelve years older than me, and Bobby Casey was twelve years younger than me. And I knew somebody famous was going to come out of Scranton, and I sure a hell knew it wadnt gonna be me.
Even under normal circumstances, Biden isnt one of the partys best campaigners. He manages to put his foot in his mouth too often, and usually sounds like a blowhard. Here, hes either too tired to be on the stage or tryin too hard to soun like a regl’r guy. If hes aiming for authenticity, he missed by a mile.
And what about this odd story about moving from Scranton? Biden left Scranton when he was 10 years old. Perhaps he is clairvoyant and foresaw Bobby Casey at the age of -2. Id love to hear him make that argument. Maybe if that were the case, he could also explain why its okay to abort babies, when at the age of -2, Biden can see them destined for greatness
Its also worth noting that this particular myth gives the impression that Biden retreats when the going gets tough. Great story, Joe!

McCain, rather than finding a teammate close to the basket, heaved it up from mid court with eyes closed. When the ball doesn’t come close to the rim this November, his ‘bad shot’ will go down in history as having been one of the worst.

I can’t help wondering if this is a trap. The McCain camp watched and learned as Obama supporters offended Hillary supporters by their treatment of her. The McCainiacs had to know that this group is incapable of behaving, that Palin would bring out their worst instincts.
The other potential trap is luring the Obama campaign onto the “experience” field. The early conventional wisdom says McCain’s pick was boneheaded because it takes the experience issue off the table. But it seems that it has done the opposite: The importance of experience is the topic of the day.
That ^^^ is Kirsten Powers, a well known Democrat and a babe too, but I digress.
So if there are two traps here it didn’t take long for The Dunce to fall into both of them. As Captain Ed would say:
Would you rather have the man who set the trap dealing with our enemies abroad, or the man who fell into it?

BULLETIN:
The National political climate change model has pinpointed a threat to leftits’ interests in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.
The confluence of Al Gore’s wind chime speeches about global warming and Karl Rove’s Rovian Weather Machine have created the “perfect storm” named:
HURRICAN SARAH.
Leftist interests should monitor the progress of this storm and make preparations to seek shelter on short notice.
Also, evacuation plans should be made to head north and turn right at the earliest opportunity.

If Al Gore hadn’t got cheated by the SCOTUS in 2000, the world would be a nicer place right now, and the climate would already be cooling down under his direction. The planet would be healing.
There would have been no Iraq War, we would be friends with Iran, and Russia would have left everyone alone. Everyone that could work would work, and there would be no need for welfare. There would have been no Trade Centers attacks, and no terrorists.
You evil Republicans lead by George Demon Satan Bush have caused all of our troubles the past eight years, but that is about to change,

Another thing you didnt know about Joe Biden is his affiliation with one of Washingtons most secretive and elite clubs, the Alfalfa Club.

McCain had been steadily gaining on Obama (before the inevitable convention bounce) and had the race in a dead heat in a year in which the generic Democrat is running ten points ahead of the generic Republican. He had succeeded in making this a referendum on Obama. The devastating line of attack was, “Is he ready to lead?”
The Palin selection completely undercuts the argument about Obama’s inexperience and readiness to lead — on the theory that because Palin is a maverick and a corruption fighter, she bolsters McCain’s claim to be the reformer in this campaign. In her rollout today, Palin spoke a lot about change. McCain is now trying to steal “change” from Obama, a contest McCain will lose in an overwhelmingly Democratic year with an overwhelmingly unpopular incumbent Republican administration. At the same time, he’s weakening his strong suit — readiness vs. unreadiness.
The McCain campaign is reveling in the fact that Palin is a game changer. But why a game changer when youve been gaining? To gratuitously undercut the remarkably successful “Is he ready to lead” line of attack seems near suicidal.

I didn’t know this either.
Joe Biden survived a brain aneurysm In the winter of 1988 Joe Biden was chairing the Senate Judiciary Committees hearings on Supreme Court nominee Anthony Kennedy when he began to experience neck pain. The pain worsened and was joined by other problems, including nausea. Eventually, Joe Biden went to the hospital.
Turns out Biden had whats called a berry aneurysm at the base of his brain that was leaking blood into the space between his brain and the brains protective lining. An emergency, six-hour surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center took care of the problem and in this regard Joe Biden lucked out, since most people with a brain aneurysm get no advanced warning — it simply bursts, resulting in paralysis, mental impairment, coma or death.

For all of you ‘cut and run’ cowards, for all of you ‘get out of Iraq now’ losers, for all of you left wing freaks and morons who think the media has no impact on the conduct of war, I give you the words of:
General Vo Nguyen Giap.
General Giap was a brilliant, highly respected leader of the North Vietnam military. The following quote is from his memoirs currently found in the Vietnam war memorial in Hanoi :
‘What we still don’t understand is why you Americans stopped the bombing of Hanoi . You had us on the ropes. If you had pressed us a little harder, just for another day or two, we were ready to surrender! It was the same at the battles of TET. You defeated us!
*We knew it, and we thoughtyou knew it. *
But we were elated to notice your media was definitely helping us. They were causing more disruption in America than we could in the battlefields. We were ready to surrender. You had won!’
General Giap has published his memoirs and confirmed what most Americans knew. The Vietnam war was not lost in Vietnam — it was lost at home.
The exact same slippery slope, sponsored by the US media, is currently well underway. It exposes the enormous power of a Biased Media to cut out the heart and will of the American public.
A truism worthy of note: … Do not fear the enemy, for they can take only your life. Fear the media far more, for they will destroy your honor.
You cowards about Iraq have no honor, so I guess that is why it makes it so easy for you. You can take your place alongside Hanoi Jane Fonda, William Ayers and the Weathermen, and, of course, Barack Hussein Obama.
I spit on you and your cowardice, exactly as ‘students’ spat on me on the campus of Memphis State University in 1972 as I wore my Air Force uniform with pride and honr for my country.
You low life freaks can all burn in hell as far as I am concerned. Your so-called empathy for our soldiers is only a facade to hide your hatred of them, to try and make you ‘look good’ in front of the rest of our sometimes indifferent and self centered countrymen. But your kind is well known. Your kind has been found out. And your ‘leader’, the Messiah, will suffer yet another huge defeat in the fall election, as will your ideology. Suck on this, losers!

That’s why Palin’s spectacular performance in her introduction in Dayton was so important. Her remarks were cogent and compelling. Her presentation of herself was shrewd and savvy. I heard from many who watched Palin—many of them not predisposed to support her—about how moved they were by her remarks, her composure, and her story.
Republicans and conservatives—seemed to get a sense of energy and enjoyment and pride, not just from her nomination, but especially from her smashing opening performance. Palin will be a compelling and mold-breaking example for lots of Americans who are told every day that to be even a bit conservative or Christian or old-fashioned is bad form. In this respect, Palin can become an inspirational figure and powerful symbol. The left senses this, which is why they want to discredit her quickly.

Senator Obama’s statement that “our economy is in turmoil” is standard stuff on the left and in the mainstream media, which has been dying to use the word “recession.”
Not only has the economic slowdown failed to reach the definition of a recession, the most recent data show the U.S. economy growing at a rate exceeding 3 percent— a rate that many European economies would die for, despite our being constantly urged to imitate those countries whose end results are not as good as ours.-Thomas Sowell

Rufus, you stupid inbred white trash what I mean by they is the Govment. It is their job to take care of the poor black folk that caint take care of themselfs.
It is the Govments job to provide them with shelter and food and money and transportation from their shacks that the govt built last time when they promised them real homes. They always look to take care of the black folks last. George Bush is Satan to the black man.
They should have given them all jobs after Katrina to help rebuild, but they didnt. They should have at least given them money to get by but they didnt. They should have fed them when they was hungry but they didnt. They dont do nothing.
And stupid white trash like you Rufus is the reason. They got to take care of their white friends first, that what George Bush say. Thats why he aint gonna get reelected neither. He afraid to run, knowing the powerful black man Barak Obama would wipe him out. He sends that old fart McCain, who aint got the brains but to pick a woman for vice presedent. She not even a good looking white woman either. She too skinny, and too stupid like most all other womans.
So get your robe and dunce cap back on Rufus and go to your meeting, you worthless white scum sucker.

al-Gitmo: Dallas will be covered up with refugees.
Go to Lake Fork, it’s a hundred or so miles closer and it has some wonderful lodging, huge largemouth and good barbecue.
Seriously.

TW,
I thought Fox News wasn’t to be believed? You’re probably right though, I was getting my info from the New York Times and Fox is way more credible.

So Bud, you show your true colors under false colors.
For the rest of you, “Monkey Meat” is posting from the same IP address as our friend Bud. That is pretty damn sad stuff, Bud.
Disappointing, if only to a degree…..

It’s 10 AM. A Phone Is Ringing. And Obama Has to Apologize for ‘Hair Trigger’ Response
What does it say about Barack Obama that he has surrounded himself with these kind of aides? What does it say about Barack Obama that when his operation slips up, he blames his aides? Whatever happened to “the buck stops here?” What would happen if the phone rang in an Obama White House at 3 AM with news potentially much more lethal than the naming of the distinguished lady from Alaska?
In his acceptance speech, Obama cockily claimed:
If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament and judgment to serve as the next commander-in-chief, that’s a debate I’m ready to have.
Will the MSM point out that the very next day, the temperament the Obama operation displayed was a hair-trigger one?
Maybe Jay can answer that last question for us. Don’t worry Midori, I’ll get to the DUmmies soon.

Speaking of her husband, Michelle Obama said: Hell protect a womans freedom of choice, because government should have no say in whether or when a woman embraces the sacred responsibility of parenthood.
That sounds like a pretty newsworthy statement, but somehow to the filters that pretend they are there to inform us it isn’t.

several reports coming in saying that Gustav is one heck of a storm - some calling it the “storm of the century”.
My thoughts and prayers to NOLA: May God give Bush the wisdom and competence to help those poor people. This time.

Yeah, that was a pretty convincing portrayal of your typical black Democrat with an attitude and two hands out for free stuff, eh Jay?
But more effectively than my portrayal, I brought your so called journalistic ethics out into the open also, didn’t I? Revealing sources and all that means absolutely nothing to low life left wing scum writers like yourself. You have no ethic, no backbone, no manhood.
I enjoy making idiots like yourself be shown to the public for the swill sucking snail that you are, masquerading as a journalist.
Sleep easy again tonight with your total disregard for ethic…..but then again, that’s what makes you a dum-a$$ Democrat, doesn’t it?
My apologies to Rufus, but I had to have a foil for my dumazz black Democrat(sorry for the oxymoron)). He was as realistic as they come; hell, you see their kind on CNN, NBC, and MSNBC every day.

Your “portrayal” was about as convincing as a blackface skit, Bud, which is why it was so easily spotted.
Oh, and you’re out of here for a while. I’ll leave your posts up just so folks can judge for themselves whether the exile was justified or not.

I agree with Jay, that was over anybody’s definition of a line.
~~~~~
RW: Little Creek Reservoir in Norfolk, slow rolling a spinner bait in a creek channel, a thump and then the heaviest feeling line I ever had in my life, a five minute fight to get it to the boat, I thought I had the world’s record but here’s this 30lb. snapping turtle with the lure hooked on the side of his shell, you can just imagine how angry that turtle was.
I figured if he wants my lure that bad he can have it, so I cut the line, same as I’m sure you did.
Ahhh— The so called Christian Conservatives of the GOP who didn’t do anything but milk Katrina for political gain are at it again with Gustav. My hurricane prediction? Wherever it hits, Bush will fly over the area in a plane or Helicopter while McCain and Palin get lots of photo-ops in the disaster area on the ground. It will be a political pawn for the GOP propaganda - just like 9-11, Katrina, the Tsunami, and a dozen other events where they say they are helping people out, and then do little (or nothing) to help the people when the time comes to make-good on those promises.
