‘We must close the bumper-sticker gap!’

For the moment, there’s a lot of talk over a supposed split in the Democratic Party. But in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s speech, I have seen no Obama people complaining on or off the record about her performance; the only people who profess to believe that Clinton held back in her endorsement are Republicans, and the speech wasn’t targeted at them anyway.

Besides, I suspect that John McCain may have a bigger problem than Obama with his party’s base. That lack of enthusiasm for McCain shows up in obvious ways, such as fundraising, and in more subtle ways as well.

For example, I realized the other day that I see a lot of Obama bumper stickers and almost no McCain stickers. Now, given the part of town I live in, that’s not surprising.

But I’ve asked conservative friends who live in more conservative parts of metro Atlanta, such as Cobb and Cherokee counties, whether they have seen McCain bumper stickers. And they both say no, they don’t. Very few if any, they report. Not many yard signs either.

Bumper stickers don’t decide elections. But I think they do accurately reflect the amount of enthusiasm generated by each candidate among his base, and that enthusiasm in turn helps drive voter turnout in November. The person with a bumper sticker on his car is more likely to vote, and more likely to encourage others to vote.

So I’d be curious — anybody out there seeing McCain bumper stickers?

I have seen one or two bumper stickers for McCain while driving on the downtown Connector. Nothing at all like the BUSH stickers in 2004. They are not pleased with McCain at all and will vote for him simply because he is the Republican candidate.

I’ve seen one bumper sticker in my town for McCain, but don’t worry, I live in a part of the State worse than Cobb and Gwinnett as far as hard core, religious, bubba boys.

Yep!

But keep this in mind Jay! The gooey stuff (independents) between the sticky stuff and the bumper rarely advertise. They vote. That’s what makes them independent.

Ummmmm Mrs. G?

You may be alienated a large percentage of the electorate with your “One House One Spouse” mantra.

The study showed that the percentage of adults who have been married and divorced varies from segment to segment. For instance, the groups with the most prolific experience of marriage ending in divorce are downscale adults (39%), Baby Boomers (38%), those aligned with a non-Christian faith (38%), African-Americans (36%), and people who consider themselves to be liberal on social and political matters (37%).

My main worry with John McCain is foreign policy. What do I worry about? That everything that has been awry with this administration would be made worse by his. Well it took a “celebrity” like Madonna to really get under McWhine’s skin. During her performance in England, she had images of McWhine juxtaposed with images of Hitler and Mugabe.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds said: “The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time.”

Can you believe the nerve…and the hypocrisy? Let’s recall those GOP ads that juxtaposed images of Max Cleland and Osama bin Laden. Yea, the ads supporting Saxby Chambliss. The GOP has taken this form of slander to new heights.

Most recently they did the same thing to Obama using images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. They know that typical voters view those “celebrities” negatively because of their loose lifestyles.

I think N-GA made a keen observation reference this:

MONROE, Wash., Aug. 27 (UPI) — A Republican organization in Washington state has apologized for $3 bills at a county fair booth showing Barack Obama in Muslim garb.

Geri Modrell, the Republican chairwoman in Snohomish County, said a volunteer brought the bills after finding them on a right-wing Web site, the Seattle Times reported.

“I don’t think it’s funny,” Modrell said. “They were offensive. The volunteers are being told very clearly they must not do these sorts of things.”

The bills show Obama wearing an Arab headdress with a camel behind him, a clear reference to rumors — false ones — that he is a Muslim or was brought up as one. They have signatures supposedly from U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy as “chief Socialism adviser” and the Rev. Al Sharpton as “spiritual adviser.”

Yep - the GOP is all class.

Bunch of whiney hypocrites as well.

It’s only ok when “they” do it.

Right, pANDsY?

Ronnie Thibault, who calls herself a “hard-core Democrat,” said the Republicans staffing the booth threatened to call security when she complained to them about the bills.

Modrell said she had the bills removed as soon as she heard about them.

N-GA,

Yeah, I know who you’re talking about. I liked M. Obama’s speech when she said, something about electing someone out of hope instead of fear. It’s annoying that there are still those.

I really loved Hillary’s speech last night too. I was never a big fan of the Clintonistas, but I have to say, she did an excellent job. Did you see James Carville? He was orgasmic. I thought he was going to jump out of the screen. He’s such a loon, but he’s good for a laugh. He’d be fun to drink with.

I definitely think Hillary will be offered a cabinet post - if I were Obama, I’d offer Secretary of State. But I think she likes being a Senator, I think being a Representative is kind of “beneath” her.

I wish that candidates would announce their choices for Cabinet posts. Just think if Obama were to have Sam Nunn or Colin Powell as Sec of Defense, Hillary as Sec of State, and so on - I think it would be a good and completely unprecedented move for him to do that.

I’m with you on Reid and Pelosi. Reid - he’s okay, in my opinion, he does what he can with what resources he has, but Pelosi is simply seeming more and more like the plastic surgery has started to affect her brain.

This has to do with the basic differences in the psyche between Democrats and Republicans. Dems are always “touchy feely” people. That’s why they don’t join the military in large droves like conservatives do. They join the “Peace Corps”, etc. They like to demonsrtate a lot (Republicans generally don’t) and they like their bumper stickers. Republicans just work hard, don’t look for handouts, try to be self-sufficent, don’t get all worked up and go marching up and down the street and they keep those SUV’s looking nice without all of those sticky bumper stickers that are so hard to get off.

Plus, if we use them those evil Democrats will “key” our brand new gas guzzlers.

He’s been one of the most fair, but when you see Obama sneer over Iran and then repeat how weak they are after the excerpt that Tapper used you’ll see what Barry really thinks and tiny it is.The Dunce gets a lot more wrong here too.

Actually, this clip provides a cornucopia of material for a series of ads. The Soviet Union fell because we conducted an economic war against it, not because we got friendly with Mikhail Gorbachev, who then decided to turn out the lights. McCain could also press Obama to identify the “common interests” we would have with the Iranian mullahcracy. Democracy? Nope. An alliance with Israel? Uh-uh. An end to terrorism in the Middle East? Given that Iran sponsors most of it, that seems extremely unlikely.

McCain? maybe three so far. No kidding. And I’m mostly in very red-GA outer-burbs, too. I’ve seen dozens of Obama stickers on the road.

My favorite so far: “Hopemonger for Obama.”

Bosch @ 2.33, I disagree with your “wish that candidates would announce their choices for Cabinet posts” for one practical reason: said folks so named would have to be placed in a weird sort of political purgatory, where a) everything they did on behalf of a candidate would be analyzed as to how it would play out several months from now, if they were to take that post; and b) it’d be yet another unreasonable “campaign promise” issue that’d be problematic if the candidate were to change his/her mind upon becoming President.

That said, there’s nothing wrong with the traditional approach, wherein a candidate offers up the kind of people he/she’s looking for in a cabinet officer.

As for Reid/Pelosi—leaders with thin majorities to work with an an openly hostile Administration running out the clock don’t tend to have a lot to show for their efforts. I’d like to think that they could’ve managed the political theater better, but with the Presidential race overshadowing everything for the past 18 months, that’s doubly difficult.

Not making excuses, I think they botched some opportunities, but let’s do be realistic.

Like a rock, oh like a rock.

Within the Democratic Party, Obama’s losses are primarily evident among the relatively small group that describes its political views as conservative. The 63% of conservative Democrats supporting Obama over McCain in Aug. 18-24 polling is the lowest Obama has earned since he clinched the Democratic nomination in June.

Thee same group that gave the dhimmis their win in 06.

As a result of this, support for Obama among all Democratic registered voters fell from 81% in early August (Aug. 4-10) to 78% last week (Aug. 18-24). Obama’s support from Republicans over this period also dipped from 9% to 7%, while 42% to 43% of independents have consistently supported him.

The 78% of Democrats backing Obama from Aug. 18-24 ties for the lowest seen since early June. The 7% of Republicans for Obama is the lowest to date (since the start of Gallup Poll Daily tracking of the Obama-McCain race in March).

Buh-bye barry.

I’m thrilled that Senator Clinton honored the suffragettes, including Harriet Tubman, who was as ardently involved in the suffrage struggle as she was in the Underground Railroad.

Thanks to the success of Harriet Tubman and other amazing suffragettes, women now have voices and choices!

We can ELECT a great candidate like Obama!

But most people are totally in the dark about HOW the suffragettes won, and what life was REALLY like for women before they did.

“The Privilege of Voting” is a new free e-mail series that follows eight great women from 1912 - 1920 to reveal ALL that happened to set the stage for women to win the vote.

This is no boring history report. It’s a real-life soap opera!

Two beautiful and extremely powerful suffragettes — Alice Paul and Emmeline Pankhurst are featured, along with Edith Wharton, Isadora Duncan, Alice Roosevelt and two gorgeous presidential mistresses.

There are tons of heartache for these heroines on the rocky road to the ballot box, but in the end, they WIN!

Exciting, sequential 10-minute e-mail episodes are perfect for coffeebreaks, or anytime.

Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, thee teleprompter screen went blank, aahhh, yes, my peaceful time, when everything becomes dark and I hear thee buzzing sound between my ears.

I like thee buzzing.

So saddle up, you morons, let us ride together as a big, stupid mass of ignorance all across thee land, proclaiming to all thee dullards whatever it is thee teleprompter tell us to say.

Yes we can!

Seig Heil!

I for one do not put bumper stickers on my car at all, with the exception of a Yellow Jacket GT Logo.

I too live in the Suwanee/JohnsCreek area and have always noted the large number of “W” stickers on the oversized SUV’s. I am usually noting that they are the pushiest, rudest drivers on the road. You know the ones that park illegally in the Handicap place, tail gait you and then pull around on a 2 lane road with kids all around because you have the audacity to be going the speed limit, park in the small covered drive through area at Publix so as not the get their helmet hair wet when it is raining. Yeah I have noticed the “W” voters driving habits for years, a huge “ALL ABOUT ME” attitude.

Far from being the ‘lesser of two evils’ as one respondent wrote, Senator Obama is by far the superior candidate on international and national issues. Being a prisoner of war has nothing to do with being able to lead a nation but being a person with intelligence and solid, progressive ideas has a great deal to do with leading a nation. I live in a conservative community and I have seen 2 Obama and 0 McCain bumper stickers.

I put a McCain sticker on my car and two days later it was keyed with the words “Racist Pig” on the drivers side with “war monger” on the passenger side. Lots of Obama stickers out there and their cars go unmolested. We can’t put on McCain stickers because of the mentality and viciousness of the other side of the isle.

Simple. Dems are giving their stickers away for free, Reps are charging a dollar. Why? Make them free, you will see more stickers.

Know why you’re not seeing any McCain bumper stickers? Because America is finally WAKING UP!

Utah gave President Bush 77% of their votes here in 2004…so you would think that if you were going to find McCain stickers anywhere, it would be here in Salt Lake City. I have seen 2 stickers…and that’s only because i really look for them too. Obama stickers, on the other hand, are everywhere. I see 5 or 6 on my 15 min ride to work every day.

It’s always amusing to see liberals spitefully regurgitating their spew about about how negative and mean everyone they hate is.

Have heart. Your lemmings’ journey end is near—-the cliff you’re so eager to throw yourselves off is getting close.
