True colors, shining through….

So Steven Spielberg, perhaps America’s pre-eminent filmmaker, the producer and director of “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan” and producer of the excellent HBO series “Band of Brothers,” puts together a very moving tribute to U.S. troops overseas for the Democratic Convention, and Fox News refuses to show it.

I guess that demonstrates where their loyalties are.

Oddly we have two links to this very same blurb, but not one link to the details. When a liberal like Jay doesn’t link you to any source material you can take it to the bank that the story is questionable and I’m being polite using the word questionable.

So much for supporting our troops!

RW…. it sounds like you were watching the “details” on Fox which is why you are looking for a link. Why don’t you turn on C-Span and get an unfiltered version of what is going on???

By JAY BOOKMAN

August 27, 2008 10:46 PM | Link to this

No links needed, RW. Reality exists separate from links.

I saw the short film showing on CNN, a tribute to veterans narrated by Tom Hanks; I switched to Fox, which had its talking heads talking with the sound of the film barely heard in the background. So you tell me….

By RW-(the original)

August 27, 2008 10:59 PM | Link to this

Jay,

So what you’re claiming Fox “refuses” to show is something that CNN chose to pick up live from convention footage and Fox had something else on at the time? As much as I try to have some respect for you it’s very difficult.

The catfish above you is right, if you want nothing but the actual convention then switch to one of the channels covering just the convention.

OMG…Biden just finished and I think it might be a dead heat in your earlier contest.

Anyway, back to your premise that life exists beyond links. True enough, but you said Fox refused to show the video without offering one iota of proof. All you have is that they didn’t take it live. Where’s the proof that they refuse to show the video?

I trust you’ll use the same standard next week.

/Actually I don’t.

By JAY BOOKMAN

August 27, 2008 11:06 PM | Link to this

Fine, RW. Then let’s reverse the situation.

Let’s say CNN “declined” — since you don’t like the word “refused” — to show a film tribute to U.S. veterans next week, preferring to televise its own talking heads while the tribute played in the background.

What do you think would be the reaction?

By the lovely mrs. catfish

August 27, 2008 11:08 PM | Link to this

Refuse…didn’t take it live…come on RW…quit splitting links! the way Fox typically goes on and on and on ad nauseum it is strange indeed that they didn’t show the tribute to the troops…which I agree was incredibly moving.

By RW-(the original)

August 27, 2008 11:19 PM | Link to this

Jay,

My reaction would be that CNN had a programming schedule that they were trying to keep. If it later came out that they actually refused to show a piece of tribute tape then I would call them out. I certainly wouldn’t make the claim that CNN should be damned because they didn’t mirror the directorial decisions of Fox News.

Like you did, albeit in reverse.

Liberal Democrats in general despise the military. Few of them serve or have served in it. They see that as being beneath them and the military is at best a necessary evil. How many Ivy League graduates are going in as officers? This is all propaganda aimed at the unwashed, ignorant masses.

That’s strange. I have a plaque on my wall that has a very similar message on it. It’s inscribed to me from the officers and men of “Bravo” Company, 1st Battallion, 5th Marines. On the plaque is the emblem of our company—the Bushmasters.

I have enoticed that you seem to regale the masses with your bravado. You sound to me like a person one or two steps removed from the reality of combat. Surely you could never have seen combat, or else you would never have tried to glorify it. No one who has ever been in combat thinks it’s glorious.

Just a thought in the night.

More ominous signs Wednesday have scientists saying that a global warming “tipping point” in the Arctic seems to be happening before their eyes: Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean is at its second-lowest level in about 30 years.-Urinal/PMS

A record cold August has no effect on the dimwit environmental terrorists, nope, they have to go look at some insignificant melting at the pole of the Earth where is isn’t growing:

The Antarctic Ice Sheet is Growing Thicker. In the mid 1960s, ITT built a power transmission line in Antarctica. The transmission towers stood 115 feet tall. As you can see in these photos, all but the top 30 feet of the towers are now buried in ice.

A layer of ice up to two miles thick covers a continent as big as the United States and Mexico combined. Antarctic ice contains 70% of the world’s fresh water (90% of the world’s ice). If it were divided up, every person on Earth could have a chunk of ice larger than the Great Pyramid.

Isn’t amazing how much more the Duh Report knows then the whole team of “journalists” over at the Urinal does?

Either that or they are propagandizing on behalf of their beloved junk science.

You know, a lot of cats out there wonder why I completely own every single blog I visit. Well, one perfect example of why is that I dont even have to comment and the threads revolve around me, like at 12:00 am above.

I rule this blog, the Wooten blog, and yes, even all the sports blogs. All of them!

I rule because I never sold out. People have to read me, or read things from me in every post they read, whether I wrote the comment or not. People love to try to fool others into thinking that I wrote their comments. I am this blog.

Now, even though it P’s me off that Bookman coddles the serial dented heads and signal crackpots on this blog, and indulges delusional sociopaths like RW and his tag-team tincture-swabbing partner, Duhng, I hold back criticism, giving Bookman the benefit of the doubt, that maybe he has some overall approach to hosting a blog, where he feels sorry for the ignorant sellouts who cant write one word of nonpartisan, non-rushannity.

Bookman isn’t hip to our culture. He doesn’t know when he’s being prattled to or when someone is double-talking him, like RW did in his exchange around 11:19pm last night.

It’s also bothersome that Jay seems not to have a life that would preclude his monitoring his own blog 24/7. But I’m willing, for the sake of the peace, to overlook poor personal habits, lazy writing, and even the occasional onomatopoeia. But coddling trolls? THAT I do not forgive, so let me say this, that should something happen to one of my comments, say, it should be singled out, roughed-up and deleted, by accident of course, or if say, if lightning should strike it in the form of a Duhng flame, or if anything negative should befall one of my gems of blogging acumen, then there will be blogwar. But I promise NOT to be the one who breaks the peace. That is my pledge I give to you on this day.

Now, I must go bury what’s left of my PoFo I.D. There’s a reception with fava beans and nice chianti afterward if anyone’s interested.

“When I turned the TV on,” Tony Blankley writes at the outset of the convention coverage, “the political cable news shows were filled with liberal pundits, liberal anchors, liberal guest historians, liberal weather gals and guys, liberal news you can use chicks, liberal political ‘strategists’ (i.e. out of work Democratic National Committee gofers).” Practically everything they droned on about was stupid.

Blankley was particularly critical of the blah, blah, blah that followed the Prophet Obama’s choice of Senator Joe Biden as his running mate in their Campaign for Change. Joe is a minor Washington monument, completely with stone head. He has been a senator for 36 years. He may have been a congressional page during the administration of Grover Cleveland. Yet, the mainstream moron media were in the raptures over the Prophet’s bold choice.

It’s like virtual DNC Kampaign literature at a “news” paper box near you.

Blah, blah, blah.

America is sick of it.

The libs will be the last ones to figure it out, even after their presidential nominee crashes and burns.

Well, well, now Rove Master sees the same target that I do:

Inevitably, John McCain and Barack Obama will be drawn into these fights. And, although both are sitting senators, the advantage may go to Mr. McCain. Democrats control Congress, so they are accountable. Mr. Reid and Mrs. Pelosi are two of the worst advertisements for Congress imaginable. And Mr. McCain has an impressive record of political reform he can invoke, whereas Mr. Obama, who has yet to complete his first term in the Senate, has no accomplishments to point to that demonstrate that he is an agent of change.

The 110th Congress is an excellent target for Mr. McCain. He ought to take careful aim at it and commence firing.

You are allowed to be biased because you are a commentator rather than a journalist. Your definition of “moving tribute” and my definition are almost certainly very different.

Bosch,

That is just weird. I registered as a Republican in 1980, the first year I was able to vote, and voted for St Ronald. I caulk it up to the stupidity of youth and a strong father figure. I saw the error of my ways soon though. Funny how that registration can jump up to bite you in the butt years later. I am getting Republican spam mail now.

I also think Jimmy Carter was a good president in keeping us out of a war, and being the first progressive energy policy president. And hands down the best ex-president we have ever had.

And I am married to a hunk, as you are married to a babe. We have been living in parallel universes all this time. LOL

Bosch, and GOP2go: Nobody cares what you two stuntwits do with your blow up dolls. But if you want to talk about Reagan’s landslide win over Carter, then maybe you should read more.

The evangelical right reared it’s ugly head for Reagan in 1980 after Bobby Jones University’s tax exempt status was challenged, not by Carter, but by the IRS. They wouldn’t allow Blacks on campus. Thus they didn’t deserve the tax exemption due a “charitable organization”. Carter took the fall. The issue was tax money, not abortion or gay marriage.

It was one of a long line of injustices that the right has perpetrated on this country.

Corporal: Dont sell your war. It’s pathetic and mercenary. Just fade away.

‘muff said.

Fox News has some unspinning to do. They’ve labeled the conservatives as surrender monkeys, and have suggested that our troops all died in vain and that the terrorists won. They’ve done this 24/7 365 for five years. Now that Bush has agreed to a surrender timeline.

It will be a while B4 Fox gets back on track.

Hillary had the moment. It’s not about me, it’s about the disenfranchised. Hillary’s selflessness will go down with, “Ask not”, and “Four score”, and “Nuts!”

McCain 08: Was he playing tic tac toe in the dirt with that prison guard? Rush Limbaugh suggests that since Russia and the Vietnamese were allies during ‘Nam, that maybe a Vietnamese prison guard visited a gulag in Russia where Solzhenitsyn was housed. Then, Rush says it’s possible the prison guard related how he drew a cross in the dirt for McCain to a Russian guard while they had a vodka break. Solzhenitsyn then overheard the story and stole it for his “Gulag Archepelago” which the Right has tried to prove every line a lie.

Rush is back on RX, folks.

And I think it’s a damn shame.
