Impressions of convention, Night One

I thought Ted Kennedy’s appearance at the convention in Denver was compelling, although I suspect the media got spun a good bit, told to expect a more frail “Uncle Teddy” than what we saw just to build up the impact.

Michelle Obama was gracious, likable, attractive and yes, motherly. Very effective. If the right wing has that “whitey” tape out there, now would be a good time to unleash it, right boys? Did you hear me, Rush? Paging Mr. Limbaugh? Hah.

Anybody who believed in that tape’s existence — well, apparently it’s a myth that turkeys are so stupid they’ll look up at the sky in a rainstorm and drown, but I still have doubts about certain elements of the human race.

And I sure do hope that possible assassination plot turns out to be nothing. “….officers found two rifles, including one with a scope; a bulletproof vest; boxes of ammunition; walkie-talkies; and suspected narcotics, said Aurora police Detective Marcus Dudley.”

It’s that bulletproof vest and walkie talkies that get you worried. I don’t know if you’ve seen the mugshots of two suspects in the case, but if you see them outside staring up at the sky in a rainstorm….

Assassination plots, dead Kennedys, staged acts of racism, the reinstitution of the draft, Mad Michelle turned into Snow White, is there anything that the pinko media will not use to get their mindless moron elected?

Other than Dhimmy Carter, I should say.

Yawn. Exactly what you would expect from a partisan.

Despite the title of “Impressions of the convention”, the bulk of the “article” is about some “whitey” tape, rumors of which are known to a tiny slice of America.

Why do partisan pundits think that we care what they think about their opposites? I care as little about what Bookman thinks about Limbaugh, as I do Limbaugh’s thoughts on Bookman.

Bookman’s tired screeds are the lowest form of partisan dreck. There are plenty of liberal pundits who are capable of writing above the level of a bitter partisan blogger. Bookman is not one of them.

It will play a lot better on October 31st.

Why, pray tell, would anyone think we would waste our time showing to the assemblage of America haters gathered in Denver?

Do you think it would even bother them to see Mad Michelle cursing her country?

Yeah, they showed enough Dead Kennedy clips I gather to make you think they are almost still alive. You know, the shelf life on celluloid is only about 80-90 years…..you think they’ll still be using it in the middle to late part of this century too?

I gathered some excerpts from Michelle O’s speech:

1.) As you might imagine, for Barack, running for President is nothing compared to that first game of basketball with my brother Craig. - no doubt aimed at the midnight basketball gangstas

2.) * He was raised by grandparents who were working class folks just like my parents, and by a single mother who struggled to pay the bills just like we did.* - his greatest constituency

3.) People like Hillary Clinton, who put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, so that our daughters - and sons - can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher. - what the hell does she mean by this?? I guess she forgot Geraldine Ferraro was still alive.

4.) That is why I love this country. - sorry lady, you got it right as far as you’re concerned when you made the ‘for the first time in my adult life I’m proud of my country’ statement. Americans can read people pretty well by first impressions, and that’s the impression you left everyone with, and it’s not a pretty one either.

5.) That’s why he’s running - to end the war in Iraq responsibly, … - aha! The cat is out of the bag now, isn’t it? What happened to the 60 days? The real Obama revealed further, say what it takes to get the nomination from the fanatics, do something else later.

6.) He’ll achieve these goals the same way he always has - by bringing us together and reminding us how much we share and how alike we really are. - yeah, we share the same values, like religion for instance; for sure we all go to a church pastored by someone like Jeremiah Wright. If he were Baptist, it would be more believable, because a lot of folks sleep through those long, drawn out sermons. Wright’s high pitched oratory of hate speech would be too loud, if nothing else, to ignore.

You can put lipstick and a pretty dress on a pig, and it’s still a pig. You put a socialist in front of a mike, and the socialist comes through loud and clear, and yes, it’s still a socialist. I guess she wore a pretty dress, my constitution is too frail to allow me to watch garbage like the DNC party without retching violently. I gathered these excepts online this morning, so I cannot vouch for their accuracy, especially coming from ABC. Braves baseball tonight may be rained out tonight; too much rain, too cool for August…where’s the global warming???????????

No one on this blog posts “extensive comments copied from other blogs” except I r o Dim and SNEWZE, everybody knows it.

Every single one of my comments are small snippets taken from various recent news sources, most of them from that day’s edition of the Urinal and in almost every case, are followed up with my own thoughts and words.

What you censored today was more than half on topic, 4 seperate comments about the dhimmi convention.

I thought the night went well. Ted Kennedy was very inspiring and Caroline Kennedy, well, the only word you can say about her is “pure class” - okay, that’s two. But she’s worth alot more.

I thought Michelle Obama’s speech went very well. She too, is very classy, in my opinion.

The thing that I didn’t like were the commentators who wanted blood. I thought the mostly positive air of the evening was a real break from the cut throat atmosphere we’ve seen lately.

Coming straight off the Olympics which is about fair games and world peace, it would have been horribly disappointing to have all the speakers rag on Bush and McCain, and the GOP.

And it was annoying to hear the commentators criticize them for not doing it. They need ratings and they need blood and hate to get people riled up - but that’s unfortunate that we as Americans stoop to those levels.

I noticed during the first part of the Olympics that McCain was running negative ads against Obama, but Obama wasn’t doing vice versa - McCain changed those ads after a few days and I was glad to see that. The Olympics are no place for political hate.

Hills speaks tonight - that’s where the hate will start - she is certainly filled with it. She’ll get the hate machines rolling - but Michelle Obama was a class act last night and to say any different or to mock her speech just goes to show what kind of hate filled individual one can be.

We keep shooting jabs and are not focusing on the main issue that Jay posed. Many of the electorate, right or wrong, have maintained that we are not ready for a black president because of the state of race relations in this country. This seething hate that is just below the surface is real, like it or not, and from both black and white. It is the elephant in the living room and will probably decide this election. If, God forbid, something should happen to Mr. Wonderful, we are in for some rough times that would set us back for decades. Alma Powell would not even think about Colin Powell running for president because she fearing for his safety. This nation has it’s share of whackos just like the ones in the photos who would welcome the demise of someone of color. But the Demos have a perpetual circular firing squad. Jay, let’s cut the crap, shall we?

If Obama loses, it’ll be because the nation simply isn’t ready to elect a black president. You know it, I know it, the whole damn country knows it.

Obama is poised to lead this country where it needs to go—forward. His positions are more or less where most of the nation’s citizens are.

McCain is hopelessly tied to failed foreign policy, failed borrow-and-spend economics, and an increasingly marginalized “social-conservative” (read: scared of gays, nervous about Those People, & thinks reproductive choice = “baby-killing”) base.

It ought to be Obama’s to lose. But then there’s that whole centuries-of-being-taught-blacks-are-inferior thing for whites in America to deal with.

Here’s to all of you toadies that took momentary advantage of American “weakness” in being able to deal with Russia’s aggression:

Markets do react to unpleasant facts, such as other peoples’ fear and resentment of Russian bullying. And since the invasion, markets have sent a clear signal of Nyet. Many investors – both foreign and domestic – are fleeing Russia. Its currency reserves and stock market have plunged in recent weeks. And that’s on top of the West’s warning that relations with Russia will not be “business as usual.”

We will choke them to death.

Without firing a shot:

How does one deal with a neurotic? Not by coddling him. Russia is dangerous but it’s also weak, and it would be good to find ways to remind it of that latter fact. Stinger missiles for Georgia would be a start.

Well that’s your impression Jay — now for mine.

I was one of those who fell for the build up on Teddy. I was, however, pleased to see him looking so well. Teddy is among my least favorite democrats. Unlike the liberals who relish in the debilitating illness of conservatives (Tony Snow, Jerry Falwell, others), I am not so inclined.

When Teddy, once again, called for universal healthcare, I couldn’t help but wonder why the dems haven’t achieved it after all these decades. It’s not that I support universal healthcare, but dem voters should be able to recognize when they’ve being beat over the head with a “limp carrot” to garner votes.

Michelle’s speech, for all that could see, was a carefully orchestrated appeal for acceptance. When she said OBlahMa had never had “a father’s embrace”, I couldn’t help but ask myself if both he and she viewed his grandfather as chopped liver. Not a lot of appreciation for all the grandparents who are raising their childrens’ children out there

I’d take your concern over the possible assassins one step further. Why are they free to plot and plan when they’ve got numerous arrest warrants outstanding? Members of the outlaw biker gang “Sons of Silence”? Doesn’t Hollyweird have a fall series planned for the fall — “Sons of Anarchy”? Hollyweird stands front and center in America’s classroom and at the dem’s convention.

The most defining moment for me was when Juan Williams welled up with pride that African Americans got to see an INTACT black family on stage?

Lots of crocodile tears coming from all those dems.

Bosch,

The greatest president of the 20th century was a little frumpy guy with a frumpy wife and daughter, who worked as a mob lawyer for the Pendergast mob in Kansas City. He ran a hat shop before this but made the greatest decisions for this country and it’s future of any president before or since. His most famous quote…. “At an early age, I had to decide whether to be a piano player in a w******* or a politician. I found out as time went by that the two of them had a lot in common.” Harry Truman had little to no experience but a lot of grit and an unfailing will to do the right thing. Ray,

Nice story. I have to say, I think there are better choices for President, like Colin Powell and Sam Nunn, but as for Obama, I like his take on the issues at hand better than McCain’s. It’s really that simple.

I try to look over the other crap. It’s hard, and I’m guilty of it sometimes, but I try - I think it just shows you have more class.

I know he doesn’t have a lot of experience on the national level, but I think he’s very smart and will make informed decisions.

I don’t think he’s that inexperienced to run this country. I don’t think being a career politician, like McCain, qualifies a person any more to be President than not.

Many good presidents from the past were not career politicians. It seems many on the right are making that a job requirement for Obama while conveniently overlooking it with some of their heroes like Bush and Reagan.

That’s one thing I’ve never liked about Bush - he surrounded himself with “yes” men who were only looking out for their own interests, or their own party’s interest, and it has seemed to me, they’ve cared little about the rest of us.

After so many negative comments (and with many totally unfounded on fact), I agree, we need the candidates to focus on their programs and details. Unfortunately, there is still people like Peadawg (Mrs Godzilla, keep him on his toes) and others who are selective, and ususally biased on their rememberances of the facts and quotes. Have you tried listening to what they are saying before engaging your mouth and fingers?

Bud Wiser; you may need to change your name due to copyright infringement; you may hear from Queen McCain. My suggestion would be Bud Uninformed and Hateful.

I apologize for contradicting myself in calling for less insults and name calling and more civil debate. But I’m getting tired of the lack of listening to facts (not the talk show kind) and thought put into the blogs. While some are well thought out, many do not question their sources or accuracy. The aggresion serves no purpose but to make oneself feel good about their alledged dominance.

Harry Truman? The same Harry Truman that kept MacArthur from going into China during the Korean War, and sent him home in disgrace? The same Harry Truman that has been heretofore the only world leader that has unleashed atomic weapons on another nation?

My uncle always said about Truman (paraphrase here): “When the A-bombs start rainin’ in here from China, just before your light goes out, you can bend over, grab your ankles, kiss your a— goodbye, and thank Harry Truman for not letting MacArthur wipe up the Chicoms.”

Over the next few weeks, millions will be spent to convince us that other guy is a dangerous wacko totally unfit to lead the country. Having spent the last eight years being led by a dangerous wacko totally unfit to run the country, I can assure you all that America is not the fragile little weakling many would have us believe. If we can survive W for eight years we can survive pretty much anything. While I clearly have a preference as to who gets elected, I already know that who ever wins will be a vast improvement over who we have.

Thomas Sowell’s “Random Thoughts” sums up the state of today’s politics.

The beginning:

The reason so many people misunderstand so many issues is not that these issues are so complex, but that people do not want a factual or analytical explanation that leaves them emotionally unsatisfied.

The End:

At one time, it was said “The truth will make you free.” Today, there seem to be those who think that rhetoric and hype will make you free. It might even be called the audacity of hype.

I dang well know I’m free, and am determined to resist any further government control of my life.

These party conventions are totally staged, scripted, propaganda ploys by the two “divisions” of the same/one/single Globalist Elite controlled political party of puppets. The DNC masquerades as one side, while the GOP pretends to still be “conservative”. Both parties are almost totally bought/paid for by the Elite (save for rare patriots like Ron Paul). The Demoncraps trot out the Marxist-shell/Globalist core mouthpieces to spew the socialist rhetoric & the Republicruds bring forth the Necon phoney “conservative” shell/Globalist shill core puppets who give lip service to the largely deceived GOP base. It’s all a huge dog & pony show meant to further dupe the sheeple into thinking they have a real choice. My fellow Americans…please stop buying into the “lesser of two evils” routine & fradulant “Left vs. Right” paradigm and vote 3rd party! The GOP & DNC are 2 sides of the same coin!!!

KMA, Road Toad.

I call it as it is. None of you intellectual snots from the left have yet to date refuted with fact any thing I may have said, or any claims I may have made, not only today, but any day.

It is always the socialist leftist that first resorts to insults, snobbery and name calling, and that is because their positions are so vapid. Mrs G is a mindless tool that reposts the garbage from left wing sources…nothing she can say is ever original. Midori is the prototypical ‘mad black woman’, enough said.

Bloggers like these post their leftists crap first, name call people who contradict second, then resort to stupidity and mindless insinuations third.

Their biggest problem is that they would not know a fact if it hit them in their bovine butts, and live in this little dream cloud of socialistic eden. Ask the blacks what trillions of dollars the last 50+ years has done for them, or better still, look what it has done. Gangs, drugs, hip hop, rap, untold violence, 71% out of wedlock birthrate, a wrecked subculture looking for a leader and not being able to come up with anything more than Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, is what you have. Fact. Period.

To the Neo-Corporal and other trolls: please list what makes McBush qualified to be POTUS — is it 30 years of arguing in the US Senate for awful legislation and kissing Dubya’s patooty? How exactly does that make him better qualified to be anything other than a very incompetent incumbent legislator? Well all I am a little over half way through “Truman” by McCullough. Truman and his old army buddy, Jacobson, opened a Men’s apparel shop which Harry referred to as “the shirt store”. It failed during the depression and Harry was left with a lot of debt. He actually failed at every business he started until he became a Jackson County Judge, not a lawyer, and entered politics. He did his best work fixing all the roads in Jackson County. He did not have any formal education past High School.

I have also read MacArthur’s biography and he was a real prima donna. China is just too big and populous for us to invade, even in 1950. Just goes to show us Bud’s Uncle was no more astute than Bud.

Unfortunately I have to arise very early in the morning for work and fell asleep last night. I did see Ted and was impressed by how good he looks. I see cancer patients on a daily basis and he looks good.

I enjoyed the speech by Obama’s half sister. I missed Michelle’s speech. Darn that time change thing! I will try to make it through Hillary’s speech tonight.

Loved the link to those two would be assassins. I now have a face and name to go with Budweiser and Management.

My understanding is that the “whitey” tape does exist, but Michelle Obama is clearly not saying “whitey” but “why did he?” That is why you will never hear the tape except in heavily edited versions that remove context and try to trick you into actually thinking she said “whitey.” Before she began asking “why did he” (referring to Bush) she spent several minutes talking about Bush and his policy failures. The tape was a dud so only the rumor survives.

The Republicans seem awfully disappointed they are not going to be running against Clinton.

It’s not the fact that Obama is black (well, half black) that he won’t get elected. It’s that he wants to turn the USA into socialist Europe. There’s a reason people turn to the U.S. in times of trouble, and it’s the fact we can protect ourselves and others around the world who choose not to or are unable to. If the U.S. gets more socialist, who will stand up to rogue nations? One need not look farther than Russia invading Georgia to see what troubles lurk in the near future. Conservatives are hard working people who make a living every day with or without war. And we greatly prefer peace - but not at any price.

When, however, there is a war some of those individuals and their companies are asked to supply the needs of the military. Would you have them say “no” and give the American taxpayers money to, say, the French?

You sound like an individual who greatly prefers that all economic activity arise from government whereby your preferred candidate can steer (unearned) resources to your community.

The never-ending audacity of Sen. Barack Obama is a continuing reminder that a man is known by the company he keeps.

The latest matter involves Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign paying more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the scandal-ridden, leftist Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) for services the campaign now says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.

Maybe Obama can get the Justice Department to shut down the Tribune for having the audacity to point out his questionable associations.

They have compounded it by demanding a criminal probe into a group that works for political advocacy. The arcane regulations of political advertising will fly over most people’s heads, but bullying people through the Department of Justice as a candidate will cause reasonable people to wonder what will happen if Obama gets elected. Most Americans will see this as Obama trying to silence someone with an inconvenient political point of view, not as a defense of a campaign-finance system that’s already egregious enough as it is without this kind of precedent.

GMAN,

The word “really” was added at the second appearance that day. I believe that someone tends to say what they mean the first time around before the apple polishers get to the speech.

Believe it or not the following statement comes from Time magazine. Had I not read it myself I would have guessed The Onion.

Given all that buildup, it may come as a surprise that the Democrats who will gather around the gavel in Denver are actually more united than perhaps at any other point in the past 30 years.

Midori @ 12:36 PM EDT - Good clip. Michelle Malkin is a Neocon/fake “conservative” (just like the obnoxious “Pawn Vanity”, “Bull O’Lielly” & “Hush Bimbo”). Conversely, Alex Jones is a patriot who truly cares for our Constitutional Republic and is extremely educated & informed about the ruling Elite and their control over the 1 party “dual coin-sides” of the GOP & DNC. Alex’s documentaries are top notch (especially “EndGame”).

Thanks for the confirmation - Obama is a socialist as are most Democrats. Just one more, and maybe the most important, reason to vote McCain.

I’ll also own up to being a bit of a fascist in my sentiments though I think I’m conservative on fiscal matters not “right wing” which sounds like a KFC dinner plate.

Goldie, Midori, ByteMe, T, etc etc, a big THANK YOU from me! Once more you have proven my point without me saying a word, and for that I THANK YOU!

You re-enforced: “It is always the socialist leftist that first resorts to insults, snobbery and name calling…”

and: “None of you intellectual snots from the left have yet to date refuted with fact any thing I may have said…”

Possible exception T, who claims to have been educated, along with two sisters, but from money under the GI Bill. So, sorry Sister T, that doesn’t count, though I applaud the efforts pursued to become eligible. I was referring anyway to the massive welfare sucking machine established under the (Democrat) Lyndon Johnson’s regime, known as “The Great Society”. That money spent has done poorly at best at helping blacks move beyond the ghetto, beyond the joblessness, to become ensnared in a self perpetuating dysfunctional subculture that continues to move away from mainstream society.

No, I don’t want everybody to ‘be white’ or ‘act white’, but I think everyone sees that as a whole, whatever intentions were desired from the initial program and those subsequent, has been nothing short of a catastrophic failure. Do I have the answer? I have suggestions. But the crowd of leftists morons that patrol this site are already furiously pecking away their own little darts of hate, trying in their feeble twisted way to drown out my voice and those who think like me.

But I don’t care, and that is what makes this whole thing so tragically funny. These idiots take this crap to heart, and think they can hurt me with insults and slurs? It makes me laugh. I’ll just call my accountant tomorrow morning and get his opinion of moving some assets offshore, just in case.

Well, the rain has finally quit — for now anyway. I got 4.8 inches today. After it stopped, I walked down to our little branch to see what it looked like. It crested and overflowed its bank. I had just put in a 48 inch corrugated steel pipe across the branch about a month ago so I could access the back half of our property and I sized it so that it would handle the maximum that the branch would handle at crest, theoretically anyway. Well, I must have sized it about right because the pipe was completely full and the water was overflowing the bank at the same time. Two days ago, there wasn’t enough water flowing through the pipe to even fill a coffee cup.

Anyway, what’s happening? What’s the Wooten gang all uptight about?

I guess liberals here are saying so many purely hateful things that next week they will be saying they did not mean THAT. You know. Like Michelle Obama.

Michelle’s”sweet” speech last night was like reading Hallmark cards at the family reunion. If you like that kind of thing… Fine. Is her family going to be Obama’s cabinet? I just thought this was a political convention, not a Michelle promotion event. It was a good try at making Michele look like Mother Teresa instead of Tokyo Rose.

Ted Kennedy should get applause for giving what amounted to the “rebel yell” while under treatment for incurable cancer. To paraphrase Michelle,”I finally found one good thing I like about Ted Kennedy!”

But the hateful libs here sink lower and lower:

Ghost rider @10:22 suggests that Cindy McCain is going to visit the President of Georgia so she can get drugs cheaper.(He forgot to mention that Obama writes in his book that he used drugs.)

Midori @11:10 claims Laura bush “KILLED” her boyfriend because they were in an automobile accident and the boyfriend died from injuries. ( Midori must think Bush is running for a third term. Somebody tell her what is going on.)

Mrs. Godzie seems to be eavesdropping on the McCains as she is busy “quoting” personal remarks between McCain and his wife. The upright Mrs. Godzie also wants us to link to SEX SCANDALS which she offers from her collection of propaganda or maybe her personal collection. Wonder what happened to her Bill Clinton collection?

The Obama detractors would be amusing if they were 10. Where to begin? After 8 years of the Bush Figurehead babbling through speeches prepared for him, we have his followers critizing the Democratic candidate. I would point out the irony here, but it would probably be lost on you rubes. I could send a long bile filled rant about McCain and his supporters. But I don’t have to do that, being that I’m too old for that, I respect people regardless of what they believe, and I don’t need someone on the radio to tell me how to vote or what to think. Its funny that the same people who carry on about terrorism are doing the work of America’s ememies by attacking fellow Americans for not having the same opinion as them. I realize that I am wasting my words, because like so many other people in this country, nobody really cares what I think and these threads are just places for people to talk alot of smack and vent their loathing of their own, pointless meanless, lives. It’s one thing to have a civilized discourse on political issues, its another thing to attack people you have never met and spew your mindless 1/2 truths and empty headed trash at a columnist who doesn’t agree with you. I’ll let you all in on a little secret, if you had no-one to hate or demonize you would find someone, because its better then looking at yourself in the mirror and knowing that no one would want to be you, and that if you really believed your candidate was going to win, you wouldn’t have resort to this type of tripe. So when I read this sort of thing, I realize the authors are only talking about themselves. I can only feel pity for these types of people.

Well sir, we can agree on the failure of the welfare system. However, you are short sighted in saying that it only supports blacks. It barely supports the poor of all races. My issue with welfare, is that it is given to freely to those whom choose not to do for them selves. When an average family loses an income due to illness or layoffs, they are turned away because they earn too much money. Then they lose their house or struggle to feed their families. Then again there is no reason to try to argue this point with you. You are set in your ways and I will always vote Democratically. My civil freedoms are just too important.

Dexter:

Interestingly, you appear to be raising an issue of people on different sides of an issue who are talking at each other as opposed talking to each other. On that point, we would agree.

However, I disagree with the contention that your post appears to be making by identifying that tendency with Republicans alone (i.e. the “Obama detractors”).

Amazingly, within the context of your post complaining about people who according to you do not “respect people regardless of what they believe”, you wade off into the same behavior that you highlight.

-“dont need someone on the radio telling me how to vote or think” ~ as if according to you, they do…..

Unfortunately, Dexter, the facts that we have to face are the this nation’s electorate is divided. There is no real discourse because there is anger, distrust of motives, and unwillingness to listen of both sides of the arguments.

Frankly, the current environment is the guaranteed outcome of recent political direction. Because of the divided nature of American opinion, elected leaders have largely implemented either “moderate” or “compromise” policy (i.e. tax cuts but increased spending) or no policy at all (i.e. social security, energy, etc).

It has led to the current environment where those on both sides of the issues (of which I freely admit that I am a partisan) are frustrated and angry.

You’re still hanging on to that old idea that women only DO THINGS because their husbands send them.

Cindy McCain probably wanted to go to Georgia. Perhaps she wanted to encourage the embattled President there. Perhaps she thought hr husband was busy and she would help in a diplomatic way. Perhaps it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

McCain has never suggested that he is the WHITE KNIGHT of protection to Georgia. He did say he did not think Russia should be invading a sovereign nation which they did. (NO, we did not simply invade Iraq. The President and the Congress decided that the possibility of wmds was a danger to this country. The UN agreed. Did Russia do that? NO..so there is no comparison. Russia simply invaded.)

Start appreciating your country, Common Sense , before you start tearing it down.

McCain fought for this country and still stands strong for it. He is the only candidate for the Presidency that I see strong enough to lead.

RE: Swami Dave

You are right Swami Dave on a few points. First I’m as entangled in this partisan mess as much as most of the people on this thread. I’m just frustrated at all of the negativity that I see on all of these threads. Honestly, I just want people to be civil to each other and respect the beliefs of others. In the process I showed my bias. My point was only that, yes people should be having a discussion about the candidates and the issues, but lets not resort to being ugly. And yes both candidates are trying to play the middle, while dividing it. Regardless of which side of the line we all fall on, we all believe that we have the best possable answer and we all want to live in a strong America. That said, we need to all work togeather to make that happen and quit picking on the other person/candidate. If anything we should spending time pointing out whats good about our guy, and less about why the other guy is bad. When we attack each other, the politicans win, and I’m sorry but politicans do alot of criminal things regardless of the party, and we let them get away with this because we are too busy fighting each other. I’m just hoping for the day when Americans can get togeather on something and quit making ememies out of each other while our friends in Washington steal our civil liberties, allow our wages to stagnate and send our jobs overseas, and keeping using the National Debt as their personal credit card. I have friends on all sides of the political spectrum: Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, and people who think voting is pointless. We all manage to get along, because at the end of the day we can agree that the game is rigged and the only winners in such a fight are people who wouldn’t give us the time of day if they saw us on the street. Those people being the ones who own the props we plan to vote for in November.

Hi my friend Dusty, welcome back to the group, I’ve only got a few minutes this afternoon, but I wanted to respond to your last comment, and want to thank you for speaking up.

Now, my friends, you realize that I’m not singling out Dusty when I address her directly, through her I’m speaking to the whole group.

Now, my friend Dusty, lots of people don’t like sex. or claim they aren’t interested in it.

I’m speaking now to all of you, my friends, often people who come from abusive homes have difficulties with intimate relationships. One of the ways they withdraw and detach to protect themselves from others is by gaining weight to make themselves even more repulsive to the opposite sex (some young ladies will become anorexic in an attempt to hide their pubescent figures from the wayward gaze of step-daddies, daddies, and funny uncles), or, in the case of many of you, the same sex, since in many rural southern families, same-sex incest is just as common as heterosexual incest, if not moreso.

(Many of you have personal hygiene issues that are exacerbated by your slovenliness and stench - sometimes successful attempts to keep the adults in your life from being interested in you sexually.)

Not every southern family engages in incest. A large minority do not. But virtually all southern parents beat and ridicule their children, which also damages the child’s ability to form intimate relationships. Almost always, the abused child learns how to abuse him/herself, and others, especially children. The children become bitter, paranoid, hatefilled, ragefilled adults, often obese, almost always substance abusers of various sorts, many become criminals, murderers, rapists, virtually all end up drunks and meth-heads.

So - this is serious, and many thanks for my friend Dusty for her courage in opening the door to a larger, important discussion.

Let’s hear your comments on this, it’s past time to open up a little and start peeling away the onion layers of abuse, fear, hatred, paranoia, my friends…

Mr.s Godzie, our little cheerleader who said “You can do it!!”

You were the only person I read listing Sex Scandats for others to read. More propaganda.

Now try hard. Even you can remember if you make an honest effort..

Dear Bosch,

That was the most “beating around the bush” about family values that I have read in a long time. (Beating around the bush = squirming and wiggling).

Yeah, I get it. “Family values” from Republicans are BAD. “Family values” from Michelle are SWEET and GOOD. But…of course! Why didn’t I think of that?

Oh yes, bosch, I thought of you on my vacation. When the wind broke the power lines to the island, the lights went out. It was kinda dim. I was reminded of you for some reason.

While we may not share a number of political views, I think we do agree that both campaigns should spend more time focusing on why voters should vote for them as opposed to the time focusing on why they shouldn’t vote for the other guy.

Personally, I do not take issue with candidates raising areas where they may differ with their opponents. I can accept them raising issues that they feel for some reason would diminish the campaigns of their opponent.

However, if you are going to tell me (or anyone else) why I shouldn’t vote for him, then you better come back with a reason why I should vote for you!

My friend Dusty, thanks for sharing about family.

Mental health professionals are in strong agreement that beating your children and having sex with them does NOT make for mentally healthy adults. So my friends - I’m not singling out Dusty here - it was WRONG for your parents to beat you - WRONG for them to have sex with you, or to take money from other people so that they could have sex with you, or to allow other relatives to have sex with you or beat you - that is ALL WRONG. So yes, my friend Dusty is right on the money today - Republican family values are BAD!

My friends, you need to acknowledge the fact that your parents were incompetent emotionally and mentally stunted people who grew up violently and passed that disease on to you through violence and neglect.

Stop defending them and apologizing for them, at least.

And Ms T, I respect what you are saying, but I must point out that I did not say that the welfare system was designed solely for blacks, but was pointing out what a catastrophe it has been for the black family as a unit, and a culture as a whole. There’s no such thing as ‘do-overs’ in life, but to keep doing the same thing will only assure the same results. Fifty plus years of cumulative history shows a rather stark cause/effect.

And, since you have been so kind as to respond without the guttural remarks used by many others here, I will share this bit of information with you. I am not Republican, not Democrat, but I am me, capable of making up my own mind about just about everything, and asking for help when and where I do not know the answers that I seek. I twice voted for Ronald Reagan for President, and Wyche Fowler for Senator from Georgia during Reagan’s tenure, in 1986. Mack Mattingly was a Reagan rubber stamp who simply voted R because that’s what he was. I could not stand him. Fowler, according to Wikipedia, was “… liberal on social concerns and moderate on economic and national security issues…” So I place myself pretty well as a one-man, one-vote-to-be-decided-by-me man, not a rubber stamp non thinker for MediaMatters, DailyKos, Huffington Pus/POS, etc., like apparently a lot of lefties on this post are. You will go on voting Democratic if you like, I will go on making up my own mind.

Please be advised, my friends, that his idea about fathers showering with their young sons so that the boys can see how much larger their father’s penis are will get you arrested in many states, and in many foreign countries.

The so-called Reverend also advocates the spanking and beating of children as young as 18 months, activities that will also get you arrested and incarcerated in most states, especially north of the Mason-Dixon.

Once again, beating and having sex with your children is WRONG. If I found out you are doing it, I am required by law to report it, my friends.

Apparently it’s a myth that turkeys are so stupid they’ll look up at the sky in a rainstorm and drown

Yes it is a myth. Wild turkeys are actually quite intelligent. They are very fast and have very keen eyesite. Turkey hunting is much more challenging than sitting in a tree house waiting for a deer to walk under it.

Although alot of people think highly of Harry Truman now, he wasn’t so popular when he left office. Time has a way of adding perspective to things.

In my view Douglas McArthur was a meglomaniac. He should have been court-martialed in 1932 for his actions in burning down the camp of Bonus Army marchers. He did this in defiance of a direct order. (The Bonus Army: An American Epic by Paul Dickson and Thomas B. Allen. A very good read.)

Poor RW, this is what was written in your referenced article…

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,” she said, as heads bobbed in the pews. “Folks are just jammed up, and it’s gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I’m young. Forty-four!”

Any fourth grader knows that everything in quotes is suppose to be what was said exactly and everything not in quotes is an oppinion of the writer. So, yes Michelle Obama said, “just downright mean,”. She also said, “guided by fear,”. She said in addition, “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,”. And she said, “Folks are just jammed up, and it’s gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I’m young. Forty-four!” The remainder of what was written was an opinion of the author and not a fact. PLEASE DON’T CONFUSE YOUR OPINION WITH FACT!

Just a reminder folks…Neocons (“Jorge Boosh”, “Juan McAmnasty”, “Rudy “9/11 Profiteer” Ghouliani”, “Pawn Vanity”, etc.) are NOT real conservatives! They are Trotskyite spawned, Machiavellian, Internationalist minded shills of the Globalist Elite. True conservatives (paleoconservatives) put the Constitution and it’s precepts first and foremost when it comes to government (in which less is better). Real conservatives put U.S. sovereignty, protecting American jobs & economy first, second & third on the priority list. Real conservatives don’t constant enravel our troops and taxpayer dollars in endless foreign skirmishes & entanglements. Real conservatives don’t embrace corporate welfare or the fraud of “Free Trade” (ie - NAFTA, CAFTA…outsourcing of American jobs & insourcing of 3rd rate H-1B labor). You want to ultimate example of a real conservative?? Look no further than “Founding Father material” Congressman Dr.Ron Paul! I don’t recall trying to tell someone how to operate his or her own blog. And reposting comments that I’ve made certainly don’t seem to strengthen her argument. But what the hey.

Trying to get some people to stay on point is sure a huge chore around here. Bizarro World’s population is increasing by leaps and bounds.

Well, my friends, we’ve made GREAT progress today - I’ve put a lot of great ideas and knowledge out, a few of you had the courage to jump in, let’s acknowledge them.

And, I know since most of you were very quiet today, that you are thinking about what I’ve said, and it is hitting home. I trust, my friends, that you will speak up in good time. After all, you didn’t disagree, so you must agree - I know how wordy most of you are when you want to be! ;-)

This stuff is hard. You have lead miserable lives up until now, victims of terrible abuse and neglect from stupid, violent people who were supposed to care about you. I just want you to know that I, God, am on your side during the long and difficult journey to self-respect and learning to have loving, caring relationships with your children and blood relatives - that don’t involve sex.

Keep up the good work, my friends - maybe tomorrow!

-God.

@@, the bomb throwers on the right AND left are boring. It’s the posters who actually come up with some unique thought that hasn’t been discussed or contemplated before that merits attention. Jay Bookman, Looks like your favorite idiot Cajun didn’t think your democrap speeches were that great. ha ha ha.

Have the Democrats wasted the first night of the convention?

Yes, says Democratic Strategist and CNN contributor James Carville.

Speaking on CNN, Carville said the party was too soft in its attacks on John McCain Monday night — the same mistake, Carville says, Democrats made at the 2004 convention.

“The way they planned it tonight was supposed to be sort of the personal — Michelle Obama will talk about Barack Obama personally, Ted Kennedy was a very personal, emotional speech,” Carville said. “But I guarantee on the first night of the Republican Convention, you’re going to hear talk about Barack Obama, commander-in-chief, tax cuts, et cetera, et cetera.”

“You haven’t heard about Iraq or John McCain or George W. Bush — I haven’t heard any of this. We are a country that is in a borderline recession, we are an 80 percent wrong-track country. Health care, energy — I haven’t heard anything about gas prices,” Carville also says. “Maybe we are going to look better Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But right now, we’re playing hide the message.”

Carville also said the party needs to do a better job of communicating its message to the American people.

“If this party has a message it’s done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that,” he said.

All you have to do is count up the massive amount of paragraphs written here this afternoon that only exist to attack other bloggers and then compare them to my minuscule contributions that were censored to realize that Jay is no different than any other moonbat liberal, to lame to dispute what I have to say, so they are reduced to shouting at me.

Why, pray tell, would what I said bother somebody, but these mindless personal attacks do not even cause a rise?

It’s a shame, I had actually developed a sense of respect for Mr. Bookman, but if he is going to go all “fairness doctrine” on me, then I may have to revert to the days of thee kookman.

Communist @ 5:06 — since you pasted your Carville mantra on several blogs today, I’ll paste my response to your Carville-adoration…

Isn’t this the same Carville that was a part of that shout-fest show on CNN that got cancelled a few years ago — what was it called now, “Dems Scream at Repugs” or something like that? [NO, actually it was “Crossfire” now that I remember… anyway] And what credibility does Carville have these days, now that he’s a part of the reason for the Clintons losing their control of the Dem Party for the next 8 years or so???

You really should get some meds to help you with your Carville-love, Communist.

Nope. That wasn’t my intention. For over three years, you and your gadflies have whined repeatedly about Andy’s “letters to the editors” here. You declare they are worthless, lacking substance, posts that no one reads.

Not true, I and others read Andy’s posts. I’m speculating that, just as you did at Luckovich’s, you complained to Jay over here. My point was to show you that you have no idea what “substantive comments” look like since you can’t post any of your own.

Trying to get some people to stay on point is sure a huge chore around here.

Yes Midori, it is.

A topic can only be discussed so long, before it becomes boring. You and your gadflies come in every day making Andy the topic of your posts.

No matter where Andy posts, you guys are gonna follow him. You can’t blog with him and you can’t LIVE without him.

Bill Clinton appeared to undermine Sen. Barack Obama again Tuesday.

He said: “Suppose you’re a voter, and you’ve got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don’t think that candidate can deliver on anything at all. Candidate Y you agree with on about half the issues, but he can deliver. Which candidate are you going to vote for?”

@@, the bomb throwers on the right AND left are boring.

Boring is in the eye of the beholder. I’m not one to tolerate others applying the definition FOR me.

If I find a blogger who is repeatedly boring, I pass by. I don’t talk about how I passed by…….I don’t talk about the content of the post that I just passed by.

It really is a self-discipline problem for those who can’t resist. I don’t wanna shut ‘em up or shut ‘em out. I just don’t wanna read them, so I don’t.

Shouldn’t you put on your big boy pants (or big girl panties) and tough it out? I’m not singling anyone out, mind you, but notice your big reaction to this, my friends. Some of you have been posting about this all day, and it is obvious you are quite unhappy and distressed.

I want to validate your upset, but you need to let us know more so I can help you better, my friends.

So - talk about what you feel about this, what this is really about for you? Did it make you feel sad, mad, frustrated, powerless, overlooked, when Mr. Bookman took down my friend Andi’s post? When were some times in your childhood that you had the same feeling? I bet a lot - the perception of arbitrary authority is a symptom of dysfunctional family dynamics… so even a very innocent act on the part of Mr. Bookman, since it seemed arbitrary to you, can cause huge upset and temper tantrums.

Often victims of abuse over-react to little things, my friends… I’m just throwing that out as a possibility.

Talk to me, talk to each other, you can grow from this experience my friends.

Spare me Jay, Michelle “Pit Bulldog” Obama likeable and gracious too. Ha, have you forgotten her ashamed of America remarks? Michelle stills feels as negative toward America and us whities as she did when she made those hateful statements. I have read her 1985 Princeton senior thesis and she calls white people “The White Oppressor” on page 59 as well as several other racist statements in her poorly written piece of trash. The Obama’s should take their “Black Liberation Theology”, Jeremiah Wright and their racist Muslim friend Louis Farrakhan and move to Kenya to live with Obama’s murderous Marxist cousin Raila Odingo.

ghost rider, you are sadly mistaken. I am an American Indian with a collage degree and 10 years experience in my field. When I interviewed for a new job I did not get it, you know why? Affirmative Action, the interviewer called me, from outside of the U.S. and told me that California Affirmative Action required him to hire a less educated with no experience African-American. So if that is the American dream how come I get left out? Ghost rider you need to wake up, selective preferential treatment because of skin color is bigotry no matter how you look at it. So Obama gets the American dream because he is black and I don’t? Affirmative Action needs to go away along with the NAACP and 100 Black men. People need to get to where they are by merit not a false leg up! Obama is a post turtle and anybody with any sense or education can see it, and guess what, the polls are showing just that. By the way weather you like it or not, you support racism and bigotry ghost rider, congratulation on your warped American dream.
