Impressions of convention, Night One
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I thought Ted Kennedy’s appearance at the convention in Denver was compelling, although I suspect the media got spun a good bit, told to expect a more frail “Uncle Teddy” than what we saw just to build up the impact.
Michelle Obama was gracious, likable, attractive and yes, motherly. Very effective. If the right wing has that “whitey” tape out there, now would be a good time to unleash it, right boys? Did you hear me, Rush? Paging Mr. Limbaugh? Hah.
Anybody who believed in that tape’s existence — well, apparently it’s a myth that turkeys are so stupid they’ll look up at the sky in a rainstorm and drown, but I still have doubts about certain elements of the human race.
And I sure do hope that possible assassination plot turns out to be nothing. “….officers found two rifles, including one with a scope; a bulletproof vest; boxes of ammunition; walkie-talkies; and suspected narcotics, said Aurora police Detective Marcus Dudley.”
It’s that bulletproof vest and walkie talkies that get you worried. I don’t know if you’ve seen the mugshots of two suspects in the case, but if you see them outside staring up at the sky in a rainstorm….

Assassination plots, dead Kennedys, staged acts of racism, the reinstitution of the draft, Mad Michelle turned into Snow White, is there anything that the pinko media will not use to get their mindless moron elected?
Other than Dhimmy Carter, I should say.

Yawn. Exactly what you would expect from a partisan.
Despite the title of “Impressions of the convention”, the bulk of the “article” is about some “whitey” tape, rumors of which are known to a tiny slice of America.
Why do partisan pundits think that we care what they think about their opposites? I care as little about what Bookman thinks about Limbaugh, as I do Limbaugh’s thoughts on Bookman.
Bookman’s tired screeds are the lowest form of partisan dreck. There are plenty of liberal pundits who are capable of writing above the level of a bitter partisan blogger. Bookman is not one of them.

It will play a lot better on October 31st.
Why, pray tell, would anyone think we would waste our time showing to the assemblage of America haters gathered in Denver?
Do you think it would even bother them to see Mad Michelle cursing her country?

Bookman regurgitates all of the same talking points that float around the liberal echo machine and thinks he is creative. At least Management isn’t taking a paycheck for his regurgitation, unlike Bookman.

Yeah, they showed enough Dead Kennedy clips I gather to make you think they are almost still alive. You know, the shelf life on celluloid is only about 80-90 years…..you think they’ll still be using it in the middle to late part of this century too?
I gathered some excerpts from Michelle O’s speech:
1.) As you might imagine, for Barack, running for President is nothing compared to that first game of basketball with my brother Craig. - no doubt aimed at the midnight basketball gangstas
2.) * He was raised by grandparents who were working class folks just like my parents, and by a single mother who struggled to pay the bills just like we did.* - his greatest constituency
3.) People like Hillary Clinton, who put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, so that our daughters - and sons - can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher. - what the hell does she mean by this?? I guess she forgot Geraldine Ferraro was still alive.
4.) That is why I love this country. - sorry lady, you got it right as far as you’re concerned when you made the ‘for the first time in my adult life I’m proud of my country’ statement. Americans can read people pretty well by first impressions, and that’s the impression you left everyone with, and it’s not a pretty one either.
5.) That’s why he’s running - to end the war in Iraq responsibly, … - aha! The cat is out of the bag now, isn’t it? What happened to the 60 days? The real Obama revealed further, say what it takes to get the nomination from the fanatics, do something else later.
6.) He’ll achieve these goals the same way he always has - by bringing us together and reminding us how much we share and how alike we really are. - yeah, we share the same values, like religion for instance; for sure we all go to a church pastored by someone like Jeremiah Wright. If he were Baptist, it would be more believable, because a lot of folks sleep through those long, drawn out sermons. Wright’s high pitched oratory of hate speech would be too loud, if nothing else, to ignore.
You can put lipstick and a pretty dress on a pig, and it’s still a pig. You put a socialist in front of a mike, and the socialist comes through loud and clear, and yes, it’s still a socialist. I guess she wore a pretty dress, my constitution is too frail to allow me to watch garbage like the DNC party without retching violently. I gathered these excepts online this morning, so I cannot vouch for their accuracy, especially coming from ABC. Braves baseball tonight may be rained out tonight; too much rain, too cool for August…where’s the global warming???????????

No one on this blog posts “extensive comments copied from other blogs” except I r o Dim and SNEWZE, everybody knows it.
Every single one of my comments are small snippets taken from various recent news sources, most of them from that day’s edition of the Urinal and in almost every case, are followed up with my own thoughts and words.
What you censored today was more than half on topic, 4 seperate comments about the dhimmi convention.

Ms. Pelosi appeared Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where Tom Brokaw gently pointed out that the various Democratic alternative energy ambitions are “not going to happen overnight.” Replied Ms. Pelosi: “You can have a transition with natural gas. That, that is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels.” Later, she again said that “I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels,” and that wind, solar, biofuels and “a focus on natural gas, these are the real alternatives.”

I thought the night went well. Ted Kennedy was very inspiring and Caroline Kennedy, well, the only word you can say about her is “pure class” - okay, that’s two. But she’s worth alot more.
I thought Michelle Obama’s speech went very well. She too, is very classy, in my opinion.
The thing that I didn’t like were the commentators who wanted blood. I thought the mostly positive air of the evening was a real break from the cut throat atmosphere we’ve seen lately.
Coming straight off the Olympics which is about fair games and world peace, it would have been horribly disappointing to have all the speakers rag on Bush and McCain, and the GOP.
And it was annoying to hear the commentators criticize them for not doing it. They need ratings and they need blood and hate to get people riled up - but that’s unfortunate that we as Americans stoop to those levels.
I noticed during the first part of the Olympics that McCain was running negative ads against Obama, but Obama wasn’t doing vice versa - McCain changed those ads after a few days and I was glad to see that. The Olympics are no place for political hate.
Hills speaks tonight - that’s where the hate will start - she is certainly filled with it. She’ll get the hate machines rolling - but Michelle Obama was a class act last night and to say any different or to mock her speech just goes to show what kind of hate filled individual one can be.

We keep shooting jabs and are not focusing on the main issue that Jay posed. Many of the electorate, right or wrong, have maintained that we are not ready for a black president because of the state of race relations in this country. This seething hate that is just below the surface is real, like it or not, and from both black and white. It is the elephant in the living room and will probably decide this election. If, God forbid, something should happen to Mr. Wonderful, we are in for some rough times that would set us back for decades. Alma Powell would not even think about Colin Powell running for president because she fearing for his safety. This nation has it’s share of whackos just like the ones in the photos who would welcome the demise of someone of color. But the Demos have a perpetual circular firing squad. Jay, let’s cut the crap, shall we?
If Obama loses, it’ll be because the nation simply isn’t ready to elect a black president. You know it, I know it, the whole damn country knows it.
Obama is poised to lead this country where it needs to go—forward. His positions are more or less where most of the nation’s citizens are.
McCain is hopelessly tied to failed foreign policy, failed borrow-and-spend economics, and an increasingly marginalized “social-conservative” (read: scared of gays, nervous about Those People, & thinks reproductive choice = “baby-killing”) base.
It ought to be Obama’s to lose. But then there’s that whole centuries-of-being-taught-blacks-are-inferior thing for whites in America to deal with.

Here’s to all of you toadies that took momentary advantage of American “weakness” in being able to deal with Russia’s aggression:
Markets do react to unpleasant facts, such as other peoples’ fear and resentment of Russian bullying. And since the invasion, markets have sent a clear signal of Nyet. Many investors – both foreign and domestic – are fleeing Russia. Its currency reserves and stock market have plunged in recent weeks. And that’s on top of the West’s warning that relations with Russia will not be “business as usual.”
We will choke them to death.
Without firing a shot:
How does one deal with a neurotic? Not by coddling him. Russia is dangerous but it’s also weak, and it would be good to find ways to remind it of that latter fact. Stinger missiles for Georgia would be a start.

Well that’s your impression Jay — now for mine.
I was one of those who fell for the build up on Teddy. I was, however, pleased to see him looking so well. Teddy is among my least favorite democrats. Unlike the liberals who relish in the debilitating illness of conservatives (Tony Snow, Jerry Falwell, others), I am not so inclined.
When Teddy, once again, called for universal healthcare, I couldn’t help but wonder why the dems haven’t achieved it after all these decades. It’s not that I support universal healthcare, but dem voters should be able to recognize when they’ve being beat over the head with a “limp carrot” to garner votes.
Michelle’s speech, for all that could see, was a carefully orchestrated appeal for acceptance. When she said OBlahMa had never had “a father’s embrace”, I couldn’t help but ask myself if both he and she viewed his grandfather as chopped liver. Not a lot of appreciation for all the grandparents who are raising their childrens’ children out there
I’d take your concern over the possible assassins one step further. Why are they free to plot and plan when they’ve got numerous arrest warrants outstanding? Members of the outlaw biker gang “Sons of Silence”? Doesn’t Hollyweird have a fall series planned for the fall — “Sons of Anarchy”? Hollyweird stands front and center in America’s classroom and at the dem’s convention.
The most defining moment for me was when Juan Williams welled up with pride that African Americans got to see an INTACT black family on stage?
Lots of crocodile tears coming from all those dems.

If we are talking experience I want Bill Clinton let’s pass a bill so that former presidents can run for office again.

Bosch,
The greatest president of the 20th century was a little frumpy guy with a frumpy wife and daughter, who worked as a mob lawyer for the Pendergast mob in Kansas City. He ran a hat shop before this but made the greatest decisions for this country and it’s future of any president before or since. His most famous quote…. “At an early age, I had to decide whether to be a piano player in a w******* or a politician. I found out as time went by that the two of them had a lot in common.” Harry Truman had little to no experience but a lot of grit and an unfailing will to do the right thing. Ray,
Nice story. I have to say, I think there are better choices for President, like Colin Powell and Sam Nunn, but as for Obama, I like his take on the issues at hand better than McCain’s. It’s really that simple.
I try to look over the other crap. It’s hard, and I’m guilty of it sometimes, but I try - I think it just shows you have more class.
I know he doesn’t have a lot of experience on the national level, but I think he’s very smart and will make informed decisions.
I don’t think he’s that inexperienced to run this country. I don’t think being a career politician, like McCain, qualifies a person any more to be President than not.
Many good presidents from the past were not career politicians. It seems many on the right are making that a job requirement for Obama while conveniently overlooking it with some of their heroes like Bush and Reagan.
That’s one thing I’ve never liked about Bush - he surrounded himself with “yes” men who were only looking out for their own interests, or their own party’s interest, and it has seemed to me, they’ve cared little about the rest of us.

After so many negative comments (and with many totally unfounded on fact), I agree, we need the candidates to focus on their programs and details. Unfortunately, there is still people like Peadawg (Mrs Godzilla, keep him on his toes) and others who are selective, and ususally biased on their rememberances of the facts and quotes. Have you tried listening to what they are saying before engaging your mouth and fingers?
Bud Wiser; you may need to change your name due to copyright infringement; you may hear from Queen McCain. My suggestion would be Bud Uninformed and Hateful.
I apologize for contradicting myself in calling for less insults and name calling and more civil debate. But I’m getting tired of the lack of listening to facts (not the talk show kind) and thought put into the blogs. While some are well thought out, many do not question their sources or accuracy. The aggresion serves no purpose but to make oneself feel good about their alledged dominance.

Maybe the Percocet and Vicodin, are more readily available there?
What other explanation could there be..
Has she now transpired into some kind of states woman based on Big John running for president.

Harry Truman? The same Harry Truman that kept MacArthur from going into China during the Korean War, and sent him home in disgrace? The same Harry Truman that has been heretofore the only world leader that has unleashed atomic weapons on another nation?
My uncle always said about Truman (paraphrase here): “When the A-bombs start rainin’ in here from China, just before your light goes out, you can bend over, grab your ankles, kiss your a— goodbye, and thank Harry Truman for not letting MacArthur wipe up the Chicoms.”

Over the next few weeks, millions will be spent to convince us that other guy is a dangerous wacko totally unfit to lead the country. Having spent the last eight years being led by a dangerous wacko totally unfit to run the country, I can assure you all that America is not the fragile little weakling many would have us believe. If we can survive W for eight years we can survive pretty much anything. While I clearly have a preference as to who gets elected, I already know that who ever wins will be a vast improvement over who we have.

Thomas Sowell’s “Random Thoughts” sums up the state of today’s politics.
The beginning:
The reason so many people misunderstand so many issues is not that these issues are so complex, but that people do not want a factual or analytical explanation that leaves them emotionally unsatisfied.
The End:
At one time, it was said “The truth will make you free.” Today, there seem to be those who think that rhetoric and hype will make you free. It might even be called the audacity of hype.
I dang well know I’m free, and am determined to resist any further government control of my life.

These party conventions are totally staged, scripted, propaganda ploys by the two “divisions” of the same/one/single Globalist Elite controlled political party of puppets. The DNC masquerades as one side, while the GOP pretends to still be “conservative”. Both parties are almost totally bought/paid for by the Elite (save for rare patriots like Ron Paul). The Demoncraps trot out the Marxist-shell/Globalist core mouthpieces to spew the socialist rhetoric & the Republicruds bring forth the Necon phoney “conservative” shell/Globalist shill core puppets who give lip service to the largely deceived GOP base. It’s all a huge dog & pony show meant to further dupe the sheeple into thinking they have a real choice. My fellow Americans…please stop buying into the “lesser of two evils” routine & fradulant “Left vs. Right” paradigm and vote 3rd party! The GOP & DNC are 2 sides of the same coin!!!
P.S. - While Barr is fairly solid, Constitution Party candidate Dr.Chuck Baldwin is a true patriot!

KMA, Road Toad.
I call it as it is. None of you intellectual snots from the left have yet to date refuted with fact any thing I may have said, or any claims I may have made, not only today, but any day.
It is always the socialist leftist that first resorts to insults, snobbery and name calling, and that is because their positions are so vapid. Mrs G is a mindless tool that reposts the garbage from left wing sources…nothing she can say is ever original. Midori is the prototypical ‘mad black woman’, enough said.
Bloggers like these post their leftists crap first, name call people who contradict second, then resort to stupidity and mindless insinuations third.
Their biggest problem is that they would not know a fact if it hit them in their bovine butts, and live in this little dream cloud of socialistic eden. Ask the blacks what trillions of dollars the last 50+ years has done for them, or better still, look what it has done. Gangs, drugs, hip hop, rap, untold violence, 71% out of wedlock birthrate, a wrecked subculture looking for a leader and not being able to come up with anything more than Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, is what you have. Fact. Period.
So Toad, maybe you should consider studying up a little bit about copyright infringement before you try to do verbal battle with a superior intellect. Sometimes you make some sense, so I feel there is hope for you yet.

Obama is plain and simply not qualified to be President of the United States. He is a lightweight.
To the Neo-Corporal and other trolls: please list what makes McBush qualified to be POTUS — is it 30 years of arguing in the US Senate for awful legislation and kissing Dubya’s patooty? How exactly does that make him better qualified to be anything other than a very incompetent incumbent legislator? What legislation was McBush responsible for passing that makes you so proud — is it the McBush-Feingold law, or the soft-on-immigrants legislation???

After the first night of the dem convention I am even more convinced that I don’t have a place within the dem party. How could they act as if Ted Kennedy was some sort of hero? This is a man that left a woman to die in a submerged car. The funny part was with Howard dean and Nancy Pelosi making fools of themselves by spewing more lib talking points while no one on the floor even paid attention. It was like they were all alone. To top it off was Michele Obama’s teleprompter speech that told us nothing new. Just trying to look normal even though informed people realizes she’s not. Since when, do all these things rest soley on one race? I thought it was up to Americans as a country to see how these negatives affect us as a whole and do what we can to change it. Or is that the seperate but equal BS.
If you were as smart as you proclaim, you would understand that these are issues that are embedded in poverty, not race.

Well all I am a little over half way through “Truman” by McCullough. Truman and his old army buddy, Jacobson, opened a Men’s apparel shop which Harry referred to as “the shirt store”. It failed during the depression and Harry was left with a lot of debt. He actually failed at every business he started until he became a Jackson County Judge, not a lawyer, and entered politics. He did his best work fixing all the roads in Jackson County. He did not have any formal education past High School.
I have also read MacArthur’s biography and he was a real prima donna. China is just too big and populous for us to invade, even in 1950. Just goes to show us Bud’s Uncle was no more astute than Bud.
Unfortunately I have to arise very early in the morning for work and fell asleep last night. I did see Ted and was impressed by how good he looks. I see cancer patients on a daily basis and he looks good.
I enjoyed the speech by Obama’s half sister. I missed Michelle’s speech. Darn that time change thing! I will try to make it through Hillary’s speech tonight.
Loved the link to those two would be assassins. I now have a face and name to go with Budweiser and Management.

My understanding is that the “whitey” tape does exist, but Michelle Obama is clearly not saying “whitey” but “why did he?” That is why you will never hear the tape except in heavily edited versions that remove context and try to trick you into actually thinking she said “whitey.” Before she began asking “why did he” (referring to Bush) she spent several minutes talking about Bush and his policy failures. The tape was a dud so only the rumor survives.
The Republicans seem awfully disappointed they are not going to be running against Clinton.

It’s not the fact that Obama is black (well, half black) that he won’t get elected. It’s that he wants to turn the USA into socialist Europe. There’s a reason people turn to the U.S. in times of trouble, and it’s the fact we can protect ourselves and others around the world who choose not to or are unable to. If the U.S. gets more socialist, who will stand up to rogue nations? One need not look farther than Russia invading Georgia to see what troubles lurk in the near future. I sure hope Obama has a portable TelePrompTer for those meetings with foreign leaders.
