“Back in the saddle, again….”

Back by popular demand (or disdain, as the case may be).

Vacations are great. I think I need to take another one. 11 days out in the wilderness, no cellphones, newspapers, Internet, etc. But usually, not much happens anyway in August.

While I was gone, some kind of sporting competition — synchronized diving is a sport? — has apparently begun in China. War broke out in the other Georgia — I wonder how many conservative congressmen would be whining about the ineffectual U.S. response to Russia’s action if a Democrat occupied the White House?

Oh, and John Edwards. One test of character is how well you step up to admit the mistakes we all make. The way you handle the aftermath can either compound or mitigate the original damage. In Edwards’ case, he has compounded it greatly.

Finally, I see where Skip Carey and Bernie Mac died. Those are both big losses. Both men could bring a big grin to my face — in fact, now that I think about it, they kind of shared the same gruff persona and sense of the ridiculousness.

Anyway, whazzup out there?

“I wonder how many conservative congressmen would be whining about the ineffectual U.S. response to Russia’s action if a Democrat occupied the White House? “

How typical of one of the AJC’s “thinkers” to reduce a complex issue to a lame partisan attack.

Can Bookman look at any issues from any perspective other than that of partisan idealouge?

Hey, you forgot that Lord High Dimwit’s campaign has come crashing back to Earth in flames, hahaha.

And could be finished by the end of the week.

~~~~~
The worst news possible for the dimwitocrat party:
Ulrich Leuchtmann at Commerzbank said in a note he expected the dollar to rise “like a phoenix”. He said low US interest rates were not a burden on the dollar but an attraction, proof that the Federal Reserve was able to react quicker to turmoil than other central banks.
He said that in a very short period, “sentiment turned by 180 degrees – the market now believes that the US economy once again will be able to leave a crisis behind very quickly”.
Bwa.
~~~~~

Trust me on this one, the Urinal didn’t print this to portray it in a good way:

A rare English-language message believed to be from al-Zawahri and partly aired Sunday on the Pakistani ARY channel said Pakistan is now “virtually ruled from the American Embassy.” The tape accuses Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf of “allowing the CIA and FBI to operate freely in Pakistan and … turning the Pakistani army and security agencies into hunting dogs in the contemporary crusade.”-Urinal/Jihad

Uh, well good, um, for us anyway, it looks to me like the Urinal is PMSing over American special forces in Pakistan.

Anytime Zawahri is whining it’s a welcome development, especially with him telling us that the United States is hunting his as-s no matter where it hides.

~~~~~
When the Democrats abruptly adjourned the U.S. House of Representatives for the month of August, Rep. Tom Price of Roswell made a split-second decision that has been reverberating around the country ever since.-Urinal/DNC
Yes, and the Urinal “abruptly” reported on it for the first time, two weeks after the fact.
Now we have to go through the whole thing again to get the dimwit readers of the AJC up to speed.
Gee, thanks.
~~~~~

Bruno Rodham Clinton will headline her own night at the Democratic National Convention, Lord High Dimwit’s, Thee Most Magnificent Foreigner In All Thee Land, campaign announced Sunday in a nod to her strong second-place showing in the party’s presidential primary.-Urinal/DNC

At which point, Bruno will bite the hand that fed her.

Bwa.

~~~~~
There’s no mystery as to why Edwards would lie about that: It would be one thing if Edwards had an affair with someone who happened to work for him, but anyone who donated to the Edwards campaign has to be appalled to learn that Edwards hired this woman because she was his mistress. This moves the scandal beyond mere sex and into the realm of financial corruption.
whazzup, you ask?
Well, the usual copy/paste twerps continued to litter the Wooten comments thread with crap. An occasional intelligent exchange of ideas was aired.
Mostly we talked about Obama, and how drilling our way to energy independence is Teh Awesome.
You didn’t miss anything. Not here in the Comments hellhole, anyway.
Where was the AJC’s and the NY Times coverage of this fiasco? Not one to shy from reporting McCain’s “affair” with a campaign staffer, the AJC and the Times, along with all of the other lib rags thought it better to sweep this one under the rug. Used the excuse of not having confirmatory sources. Wow, imagine that. Didn’t seem to bother them with the McCain story. This lady lives in a 3M home overlooking the ocean in Santa Barbara, bought and paid for by ????. Can’t do that on a campaign staffer’s salary.
Confirms Edwards as the dirt ball that he really is. At least he could have waited until Elizabeth met her Maker. It’s called character, John, something you have a distinct lack of. Lies, denials, name calling, etc on his part until backed into a corner that he couldn’t escape. Reminds us of Je$$ie, another lib of great moral fiber and character. At least Je$$ie sends a child support check.
by the way, Jay, you know that Fair Tax co-author and noted right wing neocon clown John Linder is facing a challenge to his seat by an Iraq and Afghanistan (Special Forces) war vet, Doug Heckman.
Of course Linder has money up the wazoo, and his whole Fair Tax cult (and Boortz’ knuckle-dragging listener base, presumably) surrounding him, but you never know, particularly if all those new uppity minorities and all them Yankee transplants were to get motivated to vote this year.
You think maybe that might be worth a column or two? Everyone likes a David v. Goliath story, right?
I love seeing Hillbilly Ragger talk about an “intelligent exchange”.
I guess there must have been a lot of vulgar and childish name calling over there. That’s all he is capable of.
Jay:
Welcome back. Hope you and your family enjoyed your vacation. Now, I’ll pick up right where we left off as I have done some additional research while you were gone:
1) Secret Service Worries About Violence at the Democratic National Convention: The right to protest
Indianapolis Star - United States The Secret Service is worried that protesters will turn the anointing of presidential wannabe Barrack Obama into a violent sideshow just as protesters of …
2) NUMEROUS “pundits” (including major news networks) concerned about riots if Obama not elected:
Wow! No mention of the President Bush fiasco. This man has no shame. He embarrassed the whole country by going to China. He should have stayed home, and not out of protest against Chinese policy. He should have stayed home because of the massive incompetence and damage he has done to this country. He should have stayed home because we are deeply embarrassed by him.
Each time he huddles with athletes you can almost read their minds. “What the hell is that doofus doing here,” is the vibe you get from the athletes. He’s like the nerd that tries to hang with the cool crowd, he looks so out of place. It seems very uncomfortable and forced.
Barack Obama should have gone in his place. You saw the reaction Obama got in Germany. Can you imagine a speech given by Obama before 500,000,000 screaming Chinese at Tiananmen Square? Wow. It would have been incredible to see him at the Olympics. That sense of pride would have returned. Obama could have shot 3 pointers with the basketball team in practice. What did we get instead? President Bush high fiving the players. Bush should have put on his old cheerleader outfit. What a dork! “Give me an ‘A’.”
Please President Bush, for the sake of national pride, go back into your self imposed exile. Stop embarrassing our once proud nation and ask Barack Obama to represent us at the Olympics in your place. Its not too late, Obama is close by in Hawaii. He can be there in no time.
Go USA!! God Bless America!
Welcome back Jay,
Yeap, the great Skip Caray and Bernie Mac died - and so did Isaac Hayes. Luckovich has had to draw too many tribute cartoons lately.
The Olympics started (as the crowd goes wild - well, most of the crowd, some are boycotting, but I think that’s just over doing it a bit)!
To those of you who are watching it, did you stay up last night to watch the Americans defeat the trash talking French in the 4x100meter relay? That was a great American moment in sports history in my book.
In my best French accent, “Whose talking now, beyatch?”
Someone needs to award Michael Phelps a Triton because he is: Poseidon - God of the water.
Forget Ian Thorpe with his abnormally long gorilla-like arms.
I’m really disappointed that McCain chose the Olympics to air his hate ads.
John Edwards? Whose that?
Just kidding. Well, John did deny it for a while, and no, I don’t think it’s coincidence that the story broke the day the Olympics started. Americans are ADD, they’ll have forgotten ALL about it in a couple weeks.
A politician having an extra-maritial affair? What? Oh, how unheard of. Stop the presses!
Is kind of crummy though, wife with cancer, and the what not. I guess those who are using that against McCain will have to stop - HA! That was a good joke.
It would be nice if a politician for once when asked about an affair would say, “Well, that’s between me and my wife/husband and that is none of your damn business. But if you MUST know, yes, I had it, it was [insert “great” or a “mistake” here] - now, next question please?” (to the blank stare and open mouth of the reporter)
That would be just too much to ask for, I guess.
Right on Abomi Nation,
Since Bush promised not to embarrass the Chinese you would think he could at least give the American’s the same promise. Oh and maybe the little issue of a war going on would take precedence over his flag waving, free Olympic tickets for me and my family garbage. It was a rare public outing for Not-Jenna. She really keeps a low profile.
It was a fabulous late night show for the swimmers. I was glad when the camera lifted above Michael Phelps waist though. I was worried he might jump up and down a few too many times in that onesie he had pulled down.
Yes, Jay, glad you have returned from the back woods and all that stuff. Nothing like a vacation to make one appreciate home.
I’m sure you are proud of our President representing us as world citizens who can appreciate the efforts of other countries and other citizens.
The Chinese are doing a great job with the Olympics. Those opening exercises were a new level in artistic endeavor. Our President, as a guest, said so with reminders of the human rights needs. He also reminds us that as world leaders, we support freedom for all, first with the encouragement to acquire it themselves as we did.
I am proud of our president who shows neither hate nor dominance. It will take a man of strong character to replace him. Need I say that McCain is the only strong man available?
It’s hard to believe that this association will not be the subject of TV ads in the weeks before the election, even though Obama has distanced himself from his former pastor. And, you can also expect that pro-McCain forces will try to tie Wright, Kilpatrick and Obama together in Michigan, no matter what happens to Mayor Kilpatrick. In office or out, guilty or not guilty, the clip of Kilpatrick introducing Wright does not go away. Neither does the clip of Obama defending his former “spiritual leader” or the clip of Wright saying “it’s not God Bless America, it’s —- Damn America.”
And that is just what the KKKlintons have planned, hahaha.
It is always amazing to me that there are so many people out there willing to chalk up Edwards affair to “oh, well his is a politician.”
If the guy is willing to cheat and lie when he has a wife who has cancer that is a serious character flaw. What makes anyone think this guy would tell the truth about anything.
All I sa from your post were Sodahead.com, Answers.yahoo.com, Tigerdroppings.com, etc. Hardly the basis for any real conclusion other than that people who visit these sights express these opinions. Jay,
I’m with hillbilly ragger on John Linder and Doug Heckman— Linder hasn’t faced a serious challenger in years, and in a year like this, an underdog like Heckman may actually have a chance. A column on that race falls comfortably in line with your FairTax beef— and since that’s all Linder ever talks about, it could be worth a mention.
