It’s time to flee the heat…

Originally posted Wednesday, July 23

I have an announcement I need to make.

No, I won’t be taking the AJC’s buyout offer (cue groans of disappointment from Commie, Management, Corporal and others).

I will, however, be going on two weeks’ vacation, beginning today (cue cries of joy in the Bookman household). As I understand it, the blog will be open for commenting during working hours only until I get back.

If I had thought it through early enough, I might have asked permission to give a couple of you — one on the right, one on the left — posting powers while I was gone, so you could keep things going. Maybe next time.

So I’m out of here, but just temporarily.

G’morning, Bosch

Yesterday you made a comment about only sovereign nations declaring war ref: OBL and AQ. I think that was one of the concepts the Clinton Administration grappled with for years and couldn’t quite come to terms with. We’d entered a new era, wherein nonstate entities possessed some of the measures of military capability and ideological power that in the past had been ascribed to nations. OBL made an outright declaration and we, in fact, ignored or discounted it.

That’s one reason I’d been amused at the assertions surrounding Richard Clarke. All those years, making his case - and he couldn’t persuade in a meaningful way. Then people were shocked - shocked! - that on day one a new administration didn’t say “wow! You’re right! All these years we got it wrong. Look how fast we’re going to tie all the efforts of all these disparate Federal agencies into heeding your advice.”

G’morning to you, too, RW-(the original)

As I watched some of the news reports on Sen Obama’s speech in Berlin, I was struck by how he likes to go in front of an audience, large either by size or influence, and deliver a message they don’t want to hear.

He went to Detroit well before the runup in gas prices and told the auto execs they’d got it wrong, had made poor decisions in deference to short-term profits, and laid out how they need to change.

He went to Germany (speaking to Europe - and we know the French and Germans were violating Iraq sanctions before the war, selling Saddam advanced military equipment and other items, and even now are slow-rolling actions against Iran because of their commercial interests) and told them the terrorist threat is real, they aren’t doing what they need to do in Afg, and the threat from Iran’s nuke program is real, growing and threatening. The response I saw was quite tepid.

But in these instances he didn’t play to the crowd.

How about Obama dissing the injured troops at Landstuhl and Ramstein by not going to visit once he found out he couldn’t drag the press along with him?

How about the scoop on the salmonella being caused by Jalopenos instead of tomatoes. What a stink that has caused what with all the rotting tomatoes and all. My first impression would be that places like Kroger (and lots of other big businesses) would be highly upset with the FDA and might even want to seek some sort of retribution from the government. As it turns out though, a goodly portion of the problems associated with tracking down the source of the salmonella might just be a result of these big business’s lobbying efforts. Who would have ever thought that they would have complained to the Bush administration about the added cost associated with keeping computerized records or other such nonsense especially in the name of such a thing as anti-terror legislation. You know the kind of legislation I’m talking about — protecting the food supply and that sort of thing. Sometimes one just cannot help but think that maybe, just maybe, some of these lobbyists and elected officials are just too smart for their, I mean our, own good. As for the big businesses, it’s all in a day’s profits or losses as the case may be. A bigger question that is yet unanswered though is who should pick up the tab for all those sick folks and for all the hard work by those folks at the FDA for starters.

If I may butt in, Bosch - RW- I saw this on NRO online. I’ve cut some of the editorial comments because I was interested in the main points, which I’d seen in snippets elsewhere but not tied together:

[[ “We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event,” the adviser, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, said in a statement. “Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perveived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go.”

This makes it sound like the Pentagon registered the objection. But the initial statement from Obama’s spokesman didn’t mention any objection from the Pentagon, and that Obama himself had decided it would be inappropriate.

Gibbs said the stop was canceled because Obama decided "it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign."

But most importantly, note this report from MSNBC:

One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, "he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers." In addition, Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit."

The mention of the “no campaign officials” rule is interesting in light of yesterday’s report, in which someone familiar with the situation told me that rule was the main sticking point in the cancellation of the trip.

Guess who was stationed at Ramstein Air Base from 1990 to 1992? And who also served as director of the Plans and Policy Directorate at U.S. European Command Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany?

Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, current policy adviser to the Obama campaign.]]

Paul,

I’m also struck by how Obambi will get in front of a large crowd and never look at them because he’s scared to death he’ll miss something on the teleprompters to his left and right.

They weren’t real happy with that part you mentioned, but they loved the part where he said America was pretty much a screwup nation.

Hey Bosch

I saw another “Battlestar Galactica returns August 30” - it was the same one, on Universal HD, not SciFi. The rapid-burst scenes they showed were from the past season, nothing new. That, plus the fact the time was only 8pm ET leads me to think it’s just a repeat of the last few episodes to get publicity leading to what I understand is the January finale.

Food For Thought:

1) I am not a citizen of the world and I don’t want my President to be one either.

2) Why is it that Obama is refusing a debate format that allows for direct questions/debate between himself and McCain?

Oh RW,do “go for it” with Obama and his movie star “mojo”. It seems his advisors even want to change military rules to enhance Obama. Then blame the MILITARY for not “kneeling” to nothing but a visiting politician.

Obama SHOULD feel like a jerk but he does not have that capability. He is about as uncomfortable in a military situation, even a hospital, as any protestor should be. Here’s an antiwar protestor shaking hands with the soldiers who put their lives on the line fighting for us. Obama has been home home complaining and accusing every step of the way.

For me, that shows the character only too well of Barach Obama. Anything for a vote. That’s change all right. Change with the wind, wherever it blows.

I too liked seeing a couple hundred thousand. What a message to the world - Ahmadinejad said the US would never elect a black person. Imagine the young people in France, Germany - with their institutional power brokers - looking at us. To even have Sen Obama made it this far - again, something that sets the US apart from the rest of the world and something, I think, their younger generation looks at with admiration.

But consider this - I don’t remember how popular Pres Bush was with Europe initially. Given who was Pres of France and Germany then (rather elitist, IMHO) I’d think not much. But here we have Obama, in whose speech Europeans have the none too subtle hints that maybe this man who would be President has some views decidedly not in Europe’s commercial interest. So the bloom is off the rose. The disenchantment begins.

What’s worse - falling from high expectations (Obama/Europe) or beginning with zip expectations and going up (McCain/Europe)?

Obama hit a home run yesterday. Conservatives still dont understand what’s happening.

I’ve never seen as blank a face as the right’s pundits, the right’s candidates, and of course, the right’s bloggers.

The clues were very sparce and almost unnoticable at first. But in the last few weeks there can be no doubt. The right is listing to starboard, and circling the drain. This is unchartered political territory. The right has no idea how to counter Obama. It wouldn’t matter if they did know, no voter would believe them.

I know how to destroy Obama’s campaign. I know just how to form the language that would convince voters to vote for McCain. That is, if anyone would listen to any message reinforcing the GOP’s vision of four more years of Bush, Cheney, and Rove. There is a perfect storm of war, recession, and mistrust working against the right. And honestly earned.

It’s obvious, and it’s not obvious. The right can only wave bibles in the air, and conjur up demons of 911. I draw no satisfaction from seeing good men on the right implode, unhinge, and deteriorate. In fact, it’s a little disconcerting.

We are leaderless now, but we have a great hope for a real leader in the candidate Obama.

Kennedy could not be overlooked. Apart from the niceties and talk about Berliners’ love of freedom, there wasn’t a single original thought. Instead, there was just a feeling of ‘All people should become brothers.’ A world without nuclear weapons? Nice idea, but if Obama gets elected that becomes nothing more than rhetoric.”

“In America the demystification process of the candidate has already beguan and continues. Our politicians — especially our chancellor — will have noticed that Obama can’t convincingly pull off trying to look like a fount of new ideas for the Western world. I was struck by how the witness distinguished between a fact under oath (Clinton) and an opinion (Bush ‘lied’) and how being upset about one thing (the war) then citing other things you don’t like (FISA. etc) does not in any way lend credibility to the support for the war allegations.

But the key difference was, the absolute certainty with which some expressed their opinions compared to others who said “look, you may not like this, but it’s still an opinion not adequately supported by evidence.”

I understand the spill was caused by a collision between a tanker and a barge. It doesn’t end the drill argument. It ends transporting oil by tanker.

It was a good book, showed why he was such an effective prosecutor. There were some very interesting sections - how to construct a closing argument (begin when you first get the case) and his writing about “contaminated” evidence (when I heard the argument, I thought, hmmm, if it was contaminated and still gave these results, doesn’t that strengthen the prosecution’s contention? A friend who was a deputy DA said that’s why people like me get kicked by the defense) -

Helter Skelter - no, thanks. But what shocked me is she’s been married for years. The guy must really, really need a good therapist.

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

The libs finally have their very own lord and savior.

And God made him in their likeness, a dimwit just like they are. He reached in and took a rib bone from an as-s and made Michelle. Then, after he was finished, he looked upon his Creation and said, “this is stupid.”

The coldest summer ever? You might be looking at it, weather folks say.

Right now the so-called summer of ‘08 is on pace to produce the fewest days ever recorded in which the temperature in Anchorage managed to reach 65 degrees.

That unhappy record was set in 1970, when we only made it to the 65-degree mark, which many Alaskans consider a nice temperature, 16 days out of 365.

Just after the nomination (the Republicans wait until then) there is a serious legal question about Obama’s citizenship status. A suit is filed in Federal Court. Bottom line - in a few weeks (just like the Bush/Gore thing) the Supreme Court rules 5 to 4 that Obama is in fact not qualified under the Constitution. An emergency Democratic Convention is called. “The failure of Senator Obama to understand the need to increase domestic production is just stunning, and that’s going to be a real hurdle for him to overcome, because everybody gets it,” said Nancy Pfotenhauer, a senior McCain adviser.

And then you get the answer from the dimwitocrats:

“Apparently, hundreds of thousands of gallons of spilled oil, dead fish and oil-covered birds aren’t ideal conditions for peddling a misguided plan for more offshore drilling,” said Cathy Duvall, the national political director of the Sierra Club.

Uh, so how does foreign oil get to the United States, Mrs. Dimwit?

On a ship like the one that spilled the oil?

I never thought I’d hear the Doom and Gloom whine and moan about a prison not being built, but here we are:

$40 million hole in the sand- “It’s not going to be used as a prison,” said Stuart Bowen, the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, whose office planned to release a report today detailing the litany of problems at the vacant detention center in Khan Bani Saad.-Urinal/ PMS

You libs won’t let us lock up the bad guys anyway, what’s the point of having a prison?

~~~~~
Sounds like the British have their Cynthia McKinney’s too:
British lawmakers demanded an investigation Sunday into whether a senior army general and a top defense official lied to them in 2004 and 2006 about the British military’s use of banned interrogation techniques in Iraq. Use of hooding and stress positions was exposed by a legal case involving the abuse and torture of a hotel receptionist and nine other Iraqi civilians five years ago in the Iraqi city of Basra.-Urinal/PMS
~~~~~

So, what would “common ground” on abortion look like in Obama’s administration? He answered that question later in the speech. “The first thing I’d do as president would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” he said, referring to legislation that would wipe out all state and federal abortion restrictions, even the partial-birth abortion ban supported by the vast majority of Americans.

~~~~~
But Obama is no Huckabee, Giuliani or Romney. He is the most spectacular campaigner of his generation, with appeal well beyond Democratic ranks. That he lingers below the 50 percent mark is a mystery among politicians of both parties. It is particularly troubling to Democrats who recall past Democratic candidates taking a huge lead over the summer before being overtaken or nearly overtaken by a surging Republican opponent. In 1976, Jimmy Carter took a 33-point summer lead over President Gerald Ford and won in a photo finish. In 1988, Michael Dukakis led George H.W. Bush by 17 points after being nominated in Atlanta before he lost the election. Al Gore and John Kerry were ahead of George W. Bush in the summer.
Can you say Dukakis?
Clearly, Obama has not yet closed the deal with the people to accept a young, inexperienced African-American as their president. Obama had virtually clinched the nomination when white working men in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia poured out to vote and carried their states comfortably for Hillary Clinton. It was not because of unalterable affection for her.
Like I said before, Lord High Dimwit is the anti Klintoon vote getter.
Look at the depraved pinko media working in tandem with the POS al Qaeda terrorists:
The attacks also underscored that despite an overall drop in violence, the raw passions and anger fed by Iraq’s deep ethnic, regional and sectarian divides can still instantly ignite, blah, blah, blah.-Urinal/POS
Funny how I don’t remember all the editorializing in the news accounts of the India bombings last week that killed just as many people.
Why isn’t India, Pakistan, Britain or the United States, all sufferers of Islamic terror, countries that are riven with deep ethnic, regional and sectarian divides?
There is only one reason for these attacks, it is 7th century religious extremism, and the candy as-ses at the Urinal are too much a bunch of mealy little pus-sies to call the killers on it.
It’s too easy for these yellow bellied scum to blame the good people of Iraq.
~~~~~

You should read this whole article to get the sense that these pinkos get angry when one of theirs gets whacked by the good guys:

Bush hails partnership with Pakistan’s new leaders- Among those believed to have been killed in the attack, evidently carried out by a pilotless aircraft operated by the CIA, was an Egyptian identified as a senior Qaida trainer and weapons expert, according to residents and officials in the area, as well as U.S. officials. The operative, identified as Midhat Mursi al-Sayid Umar, also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri, appears on the State Department’s list of 37 most-wanted terrorists, with a reward of $5 million for his capture. He is said to be the man who designed the explosives that Richard C. Reid, the so-called shoe bomber, hid in his sneakers during a failed attempt to blow up an airliner on a flight from Paris to Miami in 2001.

Bushie is going to defeat the terrorists before the libs have a chance to surrender to them.

Hahahahahahahahahaha, POS.

~~~~~
Look at these sicko liberals taking an attack on religion in general and making themselves the victims:
Police: Man targeted liberal church-Urinal/PMS
Really?
“He had his own sense of belief about religion, that’s the impression I got of him,” said neighbor Karen Massey. “We were talking one day when my daughter graduated from Bible college, and I told him I was a Christian, then he almost turned angry.
“He seemed to get angry at that.”
According to Massey, Adkisson talked frequently about his parents who “made him go to church all his life … he was forced to do that.”
Sick, AJC, sick.
~~~~~

This should be pretty easy to understand:

“President Bush this morning accepted the recommendation of the Secretary of the Army to approve a sentence of death for Army Private Ronald A. Gray, affirming the sentence that resulted from a general court martial for multiple charges of murder and rape committed while serving as a member of the Armed Services. While approving a sentence of death for a member of our Armed Services is a serious and difficult decision for a Commander-in-Chief, the President believes the facts of this case leave no doubt that the sentence is just and warranted. Private Gray was convicted of committing brutal crimes, including two murders, an attempted murder, and three rapes. The victims included a civilian and two members of the Army. Because additional legal challenges are expected in this case, we will decline to comment further. The President’s thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these heinous crimes and their families and all others affected.”

Now go look at the picture of Bush that Politico.com chose to print along with the story.

There is an inbred sickness in the American media these days, they have their ideas to what is right and what is wrong and we have ours.

Two totally different ideas.

When a man has the courage to do the right thing, and in this case death is the right thing, he does not need to be portrayed as a monster by an unaccountable pack of scumbags, the lowest form of life, filthy mofos who would stand on the side of murderers and rapists.

Does this not sum up the last 5 years of our history, Bush doing the right thing in defeating the Neanderthal terrorists of the Middle East, while the pinko media whined and moaned the whole time?

Who in their right mind can argue with the fact that we took the fight TO the same POS that killed 3000 of our innocent countrymen?

The same degenerates that go on crying jags because a murderer and rapist is getting what he full well deserves?

~~~~~
Peter Hart, a Democratic pollster, said the statistics should serve as a reminder of the particular obstacles that Obama faces.
“Here’s a 46-year-old African-American with a narrative that is very unusual and that few other Americans can relate to,” he said. “Add to the fact that he has had four years in the United States Senate and very little international experience. That’s a large leap for the American public to make.”
Notice how a dimwitocrat cannot even be honest with themselves?
Has four years passed since Lord high Dimwit was elected to the Senate?
Uh, no.
Now let’s factor in that he has spent the last two years running for the presidency.
A lib’s life is nothing but a lie, they lie to themselves about the environment, about the economy, about the war.
And about their candidate.
Will you be living the lie with them?
P.S. There is a reason why Lord High Dimwit cannot get pass 50% in the polls: most Americans are not stupid enough to live the lie.
Enjoy your orgy.
~~~~~

The fact that people turned out in Berlin to hear Obama sing a couple of choruses of “We Are the World” only demonstrates that Europeans, who have long since lost the taste both for liberty and for hard work, have a lot of time on their hands and are not very discriminating in the entertainment they choose. For a long time it has been no secret that Obama and his brand of socialist, pacifist politics have been very popular in Old Europe. Perhaps it’s time we traded Obama to the EU for two croissants and a used Volvo. (It would be one of those trades that benefit both teams. Europe would get a guy they adore, and we would get something of value.)

~~~~~
President Bush’s recent decision to lift the longstanding executive ban on offshore drilling implies that we, as a nation, are more concerned with prices at the pump than with the health of our coastal economy and environment. Apparently we’ve forgotten how critical these areas are to our state, national and global economies.-Urinal/PMS
You know what is funny, where are all the pictures and evidence that off shore drilling “harms the environment?”
It should be easy to show us, shouldn’t it?
~~~~~

Pelosi: ‘I’m trying to save the planet’

Aren’t we all so lucky?

~~~~~
The only way a pinko liberal can increase their numbers in Congress is by electing wingnuts, and it is killing them to do it:
At the moment, the Blue Dog contingent is dominant in the Democratic caucus and drives much of what the caucus does. The more Blue Dogs there are in the Democratic caucus, the more dominant they will be. Changing the face of Congress requires, first and foremost, that the face of the Democratic caucus change, that its strategic incentive scheme be altered. Until progressives make Democratic leaders pay a price for their allegiance to the right’s agenda — the only price that politicians recognize: having their power diminished and jeopardized — then none of this will change. It will only continue to worsen.
What other choice do you sickos have?
“Hope” that America becomes a bunch of perverts like you are?
Your ideology and agenda are cultural rot and depravity, that is exactly why you cannot get elected running on it, look at Lord High Dimwit running from your sickness just as fast as he can.
You should be embarrassed.
“Adkisson told Still that since “he could not get to the leaders of the liberal movement that he would then target those that had voted them in to office.”
Inside the house, officers found “Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder” by radio talk show host Michael Savage, “Let Freedom Ring” by talk show host Sean Hannity, and “The O’Reilly Factor,” by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly.
Hello Ya’ll, Well I am back from a little reprieve yesterday!! After seeing that some lucky person was visited by the Lord through a bag of Cheetos, I just had to try and find my very own Cheeto Jesus. After visiting my nearest Kroger, Publix and Food Lion and buying up all the Cheetos available, I proceeded to open and consume all the non-holy cheese treats I found. I was fortune enough to come across a Baby Jesus look alike in my 25th bag of Cheeto Puffs and a Crucified Jesus Cheeto Crunchy in just the 12th bag of that variety! I just do love my Cheetos. Now I can display my 2 Cheeto Jesus’ with my Pancake Jesus, my Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese, and my Cornflake Jesus. Over all I had a wonderful day combining my 2 biggest loves, food and Jesus. Now if only I could come across a Potato Bush my life could end tomorrow and I would feel complete. And just think of how I have single handedly stimulated the economy buying up all those Cheese Snacks. The bestest, greatest President ever, Dubya, would be so proud of his Dusty for shopping to help with my war effort. Defeat Al Qaeda, spend at the mall and grocery store!
I see those depraved French are at it again. What president’s wife would pose nude? Now I do admit to a bit of a penchant for naughtiness. Once Mr. Dusty had me pose in a bikini surrounded by different cuts of pork. I know it was wrong, but I like to keep him interested. It is good for the sake of the marriage.
Well got to toodloo for awhile, my swiffer is armed and ready for action. I plan to dust all morning and then hit the stores again. I intend to do my part to defeat Al Qaeda.
